- 0:00Speaker 1: Is we will put together a bid that has it all.
- 0:04Speaker 1: And I would say the most important thing in our
- 0:08Speaker 1: bid is the ability to do it and do it well.
- 0:12Speaker 1: And that's going to be very important for the NBA
- 0:16Speaker 1: if ultimately they push ahead and want to expand, they're
- 0:21Speaker 1: going to want to make sure that it's done well,
- 0:23Speaker 1: that there's no drama, that there's no slips, there's no mistakes,
- 0:28Speaker 1: And to be honest with you, the confidence I feel
- 0:31Speaker 1: in our ownership group, we've not made any mistakes. We've
- 0:35Speaker 1: not gone back once asked the public for anything other
- 0:39Speaker 1: than the deal struck before a global pandemic, before supply chains,
- 0:43Speaker 1: before cost increases. Our track record is fantastic and I'm
- 0:48Speaker 1: super proud of it. I'm super proud of Samantha.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Our building's ready, most importantly to fans well.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Needless to say, it has been a busy sports here
- 1:00Speaker 3: in Seattle. As I have said this before, a rising
- 1:04Speaker 3: tide lifts all boats. And there is plenty of connections
- 1:07Speaker 3: to explore between the Kraken and what is growing. From
- 1:12Speaker 3: what you just heard and what we have heard on
- 1:14Speaker 3: these airwaves throughout the entire day, those comments, of course
- 1:18Speaker 3: from Cracking CEO todd lightwiki on NBA developments here we
- 1:22Speaker 3: have just learned about in town from today. More implications
- 1:26Speaker 3: on that later without further ado. Crackingweekly is on Mike Benton.
- 1:31Speaker 3: Never fits you Alconiski with you here for the next
- 1:34Speaker 3: hour Again. Catch us by the Way podcast in extended

- 1:49Speaker 3: where are we at?
- 1:50Speaker 4: We'll dive into it.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Plus the NHL Global Series Ellie Tolvenen, Coppococko, their reaction,
- 1:56Speaker 3: plus your mailbank questions. We have a lot to get to.
- 2:00Speaker 3: I promise you just that. Everett now joining me here
- 2:05Speaker 3: in the Kraken. Since last week two to one on
- 2:08Speaker 3: their road trip, LAS at Nashville, Los at Columbus shootout,
- 2:12Speaker 3: Las aid Florida they had to rally down for one
- 2:14Speaker 3: to even standon chance in that they are four to
- 2:17Speaker 3: nine and one since the Olympic break, and the situation
- 2:20Speaker 3: right there right now bears this. They are five points
- 2:23Speaker 3: back of a cut line for the wildcard with twelve
- 2:25Speaker 3: games to play.
- 2:26Speaker 4: They have seven left on the road, five at home.
- 2:29Speaker 3: Up next on the road three in a row, Tampa Bay,
- 2:33Speaker 3: Buffalo and Edmonton. It does not get any easier, and
- 2:37Speaker 3: so we talked about this. The ninety point mark projected
- 2:40Speaker 3: here to make the Stanley Cup playoffs for the cut
- 2:43Speaker 3: line of the Western Conference. That means the Crack can
- 2:45Speaker 3: need eighteen points in the final twelve games. You do
- 2:48Speaker 3: the maut there eighteen points in the final twelve games
- 2:51Speaker 3: to reach that, which means they got to play seven
- 2:53Speaker 3: point fifty hockey the rest of the way. And in comparison,
- 2:57Speaker 3: the Kings by the way ahead of the Crack, and
- 2:59Speaker 3: right now projections say they have the easiest strength of
- 3:02Speaker 3: schedule in the NHL. They are two points at let's
- 3:05Speaker 3: uskin to get into it here. Opening thoughts all begin,
- 3:10Speaker 3: al Kiniski, as you say, we got to call balls
- 3:12Speaker 3: and strikes here. If anyone thought four nine and one
- 3:14Speaker 3: out of the Olympic break was going to cut it,
- 3:16Speaker 3: If anyone thought O two and one in a make
- 3:19Speaker 3: or break road trip was going to cut it, you're
- 3:21Speaker 3: only fooling yourself here. It's not just disappointing here, it
- 3:25Speaker 3: is well well well beneath the bar, and it's challenged
- 3:29Speaker 3: the notion of playing with passion at times where you
- 3:32Speaker 3: have to ask in the opening minutes where is it
- 3:36Speaker 3: or is there too much here to the point where
- 3:38Speaker 3: you just can't think straight and it works against you.
- 3:41Speaker 3: But the reality for the Kraken, they have fallen behind
- 3:44Speaker 3: way too many times in the first period and at
- 3:46Speaker 3: the worst time of the year two do this. It's
- 3:49Speaker 3: happened now four games in a row. They haven't had
- 3:52Speaker 3: a lead in ten days since a home game against
- 3:55Speaker 3: the Florida Panthers. Bobby McMahon was a great sugar rush
- 3:59Speaker 3: to start this and hopefully he's signed up for more
- 4:02Speaker 3: of it because he deserves every penny right now based
- 4:04Speaker 3: on the way that he's certainly playing. But there are
- 4:07Speaker 3: just massive issues elsewhere right now, from key players going
- 4:10Speaker 3: dry offensively, to defensive breakdowns, hammering their collective play at
- 4:14Speaker 3: critical times, to injuries hitting the roster everywhere else, to
- 4:18Speaker 3: just flat out disappointing player. Lane Lambert has to actually
- 4:22Speaker 3: call out attentiveness or players themselves in question based on
- 4:26Speaker 3: how prepared are they because it can go one way
- 4:29Speaker 3: or the other. But now we've hit a period where
- 4:32Speaker 3: you're behind the eight ball and they have to stack
- 4:35Speaker 3: wins and stack them fast, because you can't rely on
- 4:39Speaker 3: a game like last night at Florida to move you
- 4:42Speaker 3: every game. The comeback is nice and it's a little
- 4:45Speaker 3: sweetener here for the drink, but it's just a footnote
- 4:48Speaker 3: in a game where the crack and words just too
- 4:50Speaker 3: stallid early and then let mistakes build up to the
- 4:53Speaker 3: point where they had to chase and ultimately you leave
- 4:57Speaker 3: it in the hands of a shootout. D's playing the
- 5:00Speaker 3: ultimate roulette game where at that point it's just too late.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Fellas your opening thoughts take it away.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, Mike, you're you're pretty bang on with
- 5:10Speaker 2: everything you just said. And you know, I'll go back
- 5:12Speaker 2: to Lane Lambert multiple times over the last week and
- 5:16Speaker 2: a half here using the word mystified, dumbfounded at a loss.
- 5:22Speaker 2: You know, Alan, I invented a couple of words uncapitalized
- 5:28Speaker 2: on chances that the Krakens didn't for me. These are
- 5:32Speaker 2: all mistakes that are that you make in October, that
- 5:35Speaker 2: you make in training camps. You shouldn't be doing this
- 5:37Speaker 2: seventy games into the season. The probably one of my
- 5:43Speaker 2: and I said this before the other day, one of
- 5:45Speaker 2: my favorite lines that I've heard from a coach in
- 5:48Speaker 2: quite some time. Is when Lane last week said, this
- 5:51Speaker 2: team needs to be better at doing things that don't
- 5:55Speaker 2: require talent. It doesn't require talent to work hard, It
- 5:59Speaker 2: doesn't work require talent to skate, It doesn't require talent
- 6:03Speaker 2: to get off for a line change. It doesn't require
- 6:05Speaker 2: talent to recognize when you have last change and not
- 6:09Speaker 2: to pinch you know what I mean? Simple things like that,
- 6:12Speaker 2: these mistakes that we're making, and I feel like, while
- 6:15Speaker 2: the playoffs are still very much I think in the picture,
- 6:19Speaker 2: they're slipping away, and you now are putting yourself in
- 6:22Speaker 2: a position. You're not putting yourself. You're already in a
- 6:26Speaker 2: position that no team wants to be in. You now
- 6:30Speaker 2: need to win, and you now need to pray that
- 6:33Speaker 2: other teams lose. And listen, coaches love talk about we
- 6:37Speaker 2: can only control what we can control. Well, now, yeah,
- 6:42Speaker 2: but you also need to hope that San Jose falls off,
- 6:45Speaker 2: that Nashville falls off. I mean, we're looking at the standings.
- 6:49Speaker 2: I gotta pulled up right here. The cracketner six at
- 6:52Speaker 2: seventy two points time with Winnipeg, like Winnipeg has come
- 6:56Speaker 2: out of nowhere in the last couple of weeks, you're
- 6:58Speaker 2: five points back of Noville, your two back of the
- 7:02Speaker 2: La Kings, you're two up on San Jose, and you're
- 7:05Speaker 2: three up on Saint Louis and five up on Calgary
- 7:10Speaker 2: in Chicago, So I mean, you're potentially looking out of
- 7:14Speaker 2: fifteen out of sixteenth place finish in the conference, from
- 7:20Speaker 2: three points out of a playoffs, from three points out
- 7:23Speaker 2: of first to potentially one point out of last, one
- 7:28Speaker 2: spot out of last in the division in the last
- 7:32Speaker 2: month and a half of the season. So I mean,
- 7:35Speaker 2: this is this is something that I think is very unexplicable, unexplainable,
- 7:40Speaker 2: but they got to figure it out. And we talked
- 7:42Speaker 2: about on the broadcast last night against the Panthers. You
- 7:45Speaker 2: need to use that third period and continue it coming
- 7:49Speaker 2: into Tampa tomorrow because you cannot afford you're right seven
- 7:54Speaker 2: to seventy hockey. You gotta go nine to three in
- 7:56Speaker 2: your last twelve games. It's been done before, but your
- 7:59Speaker 2: four nine and one in your last fourteen. So you're
- 8:03Speaker 2: going to have to make an instant change starting tomorrow
- 8:07Speaker 2: here in Tampa. Otherwise you're going golfing, and what was
- 8:11Speaker 2: a promising season going into the Olympic breaks, you're riding high.
- 8:16Speaker 2: You'd won six of eight. You're three points back in
- 8:18Speaker 2: Vegas in a division that I agree with what the
- 8:21Speaker 2: Oilers said the other day, like it's.
- 8:23Speaker 4: A pillow it's a pillow fight. That's one of the
- 8:25Speaker 4: all time lines.
- 8:27Speaker 2: This division is begging to be one, begging for somebody
- 8:33Speaker 2: to take It. Looks like Anaheim has finally gotten there,
- 8:37Speaker 2: you know what's together and they're up by five here
- 8:39Speaker 2: on Edmonton. So I think the Ducks are gonna win
- 8:42Speaker 2: the division. But it's just I mean, you're this is
- 8:46Speaker 2: not a good stretch for the Kraken right now, and
- 8:48Speaker 2: they need to immediately turn this around tomorrow against Tampa.
- 8:52Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, you've shot yourself in the foot because the
- 8:54Speaker 5: three games that you should have won you've now lost
- 8:57Speaker 5: on this road trip. In the three games coming up Tampa,
- 9:00Speaker 5: Buffalo and the House of Horrors in Ebonton playing the
- 9:03Speaker 5: Oilers are going to be three very difficult games. But
- 9:07Speaker 5: if you want to get back into this, you've got
- 9:09Speaker 5: to find a way to get wins, and all of
- 9:12Speaker 5: them ideally, but maybe five of six points and if
- 9:16Speaker 5: and if and if you don't, as you said, effort,
- 9:19Speaker 5: it might just be a race to the bottom as
- 9:21Speaker 5: other teams seem to be surging past the Kraken. But this,
- 9:25Speaker 5: you know, this feels different this time around. You know,
- 9:29Speaker 5: to me, you know, three years with the team now
- 9:32Speaker 5: this year feels like we've had meaningful games well through
- 9:35Speaker 5: into March. We've had a coach in Lane Lambert that
- 9:40Speaker 5: has implemented a structure that seems to have given this
- 9:43Speaker 5: this team's success in the first half of the year.
- 9:46Speaker 5: This to me does not feel like the past misses
- 9:51Speaker 5: on playoffs as it relates to maybe coaching. This to
- 9:54Speaker 5: me feels like personnel in the locker room. And you know,
- 9:57Speaker 5: whether that's leadership, whether that's individual, whether that's you know,
- 10:01Speaker 5: not enough contributions up and down the lineup, maybe it's everything.
- 10:05Speaker 5: But my sense is this isn't a coaching issue this year.
- 10:09Speaker 5: This is a for whatever reason, the guys on the
- 10:12Speaker 5: bench are not getting it done in March like they
- 10:15Speaker 5: were getting it done in December. And you know why
- 10:19Speaker 5: that is as a head scratch room.
- 10:21Speaker 2: You know, it's funny you say that, like, I've listened
- 10:24Speaker 2: to a lot of folks and this is the first
- 10:26Speaker 2: time and now the five years of this team that
- 10:29Speaker 2: there has been the unanimous, unequivocal belief that this is
- 10:36Speaker 2: absolutely not on coaching. And I am one hundred percent
- 10:39Speaker 2: on that train as well. I mean, Lane Lambert is
- 10:43Speaker 2: for this team. I think he's done a really good
- 10:46Speaker 2: job establishing the culture. And we've asked Lane on the record,
- 10:50Speaker 2: off the record, you know, hey, what do you think
- 10:52Speaker 2: the problem is? And it always comes back to it's
- 10:55Speaker 2: between the years. It's individual guys in there need to
- 10:58Speaker 2: rally themselves whatever whatever makes you tick. You need to
- 11:01Speaker 2: find whatever makes you tick, uh and and get up
- 11:05Speaker 2: for games. But you know, you sense his frustration, you
- 11:09Speaker 2: sense the players frustration. I mean it's it's a little disheartening.
- 11:12Speaker 2: And I'm not trying to call out a guy like
- 11:15Speaker 2: Brandon Montor, but when you hear when you hear Montor,
- 11:19Speaker 2: who's got a couple of cups and who's been playing,
- 11:22Speaker 2: you know, meaningful games the last you know, two seasons
- 11:25Speaker 2: before he came to Seattle, and when you hear him
- 11:27Speaker 2: say yeah, the other team wanted it more, that's you know,
- 11:30Speaker 2: you can't you can't be saying that. And that's not
- 11:33Speaker 2: on him, that is on the collective group. Like guys,
- 11:37Speaker 2: you're you're in a playoff race. The other team cannot
- 11:41Speaker 2: want it more than you. That's not that's not allowed you.
- 11:44Speaker 2: You are not allowed to be out wanted.
- 11:48Speaker 3: And at this time of year, guys, I wanted to
- 11:50Speaker 3: save this clip from Lane Lambert, but I have to
- 11:53Speaker 3: bring it up now and we will probably bring it
- 11:54Speaker 3: up again to the end of the season, hopefully on
- 11:56Speaker 3: better terms than where this team is at right now.
- 11:59Speaker 3: But this goes back to ever at your point. March nineteenth,
- 12:03Speaker 3: the Kraken opened up the road trip the offense out
- 12:07Speaker 3: of the clunker, losing three to one. But before that game,
- 12:10Speaker 3: here was part of your pregame conversation with Lane Lambert
- 12:13Speaker 3: coming out of the loss to Tampa Bay.
- 12:15Speaker 5: Talked about the talent from Tampa.
- 12:17Speaker 2: They had a very aggressive for check as well. Did
- 12:19Speaker 2: they rush Did you feel they rushed your team into
- 12:22Speaker 2: making a lot of those quick decisions behind the nets
- 12:25Speaker 2: against the wall or where do you think a lot
- 12:27Speaker 2: of those came from.
- 12:28Speaker 6: Came from us being too slow? We prepared for it
- 12:30Speaker 6: in the morning. Apparently they didn't get the message. And
- 12:34Speaker 6: if you hold only the bucking dusted off for a
- 12:37Speaker 6: split second talk, teams are going to be on you.
- 12:40Speaker 6: The same thing with Colorado. So our guys got to
- 12:45Speaker 6: they've got to be more ready. You know, it's it's
- 12:49Speaker 6: a man's game right now, and we've got to play
- 12:52Speaker 6: like men.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Desperation becomes even more demanding when you hit March and
- 12:57Speaker 3: you hit April. But also there there's an intellectual part
- 13:01Speaker 3: of this, but it goes right back here. If I
- 13:03Speaker 3: can use the horse analogy, you can lead the horse
- 13:07Speaker 3: to water, but you can't force the horse to drink.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Everything was laid out, and we got a rare Everett
- 13:15Speaker 3: credit to you, a rare peak behind the curtain on
- 13:18Speaker 3: a mic with Laine Lambert about how this process goes
- 13:22Speaker 3: and against Tampa Bay. That's just one example. When the
- 13:25Speaker 3: Lightning know how to dial it up in playoff time,
- 13:30Speaker 3: if you're trying to play with the puck an extra second,
- 13:33Speaker 3: you are an extra second too late, Which leads me
- 13:37Speaker 3: here to this last ten games. Matt Evanier's seven points
- 13:42Speaker 3: in ten games, okay, great, Chandler Stevenson zero goals, two
- 13:47Speaker 3: points minus six, Shane Wright zero goals, two points minus six,
- 13:52Speaker 3: Brandon montor in uncharacteristic minus ten. So to me, the
- 13:57Speaker 3: question is this what hurts more in this the lack
- 14:01Speaker 3: of offense from key players down the middle, or as
- 14:05Speaker 3: we go back and played that clip earlier, the giveaways
- 14:08Speaker 3: against Tampa, the mistakes against Columbus, mistakes against Florida, and
- 14:13Speaker 3: defensive breakdowns that come with it. What's hurt this team
- 14:17Speaker 3: the most?
- 14:18Speaker 5: I would say the defensive breakdowns, Mikey. I think that
- 14:22Speaker 5: the success that this team has had over the course
- 14:25Speaker 5: of the season so far has come primarily from this
- 14:30Speaker 5: defensive structure that Lane has put in that starts between
- 14:34Speaker 5: the pipes. She've got to have above average goaltending. If
- 14:37Speaker 5: you don't, the whole thing falls apart. But the krack
- 14:39Speaker 5: and have had above average goaltending for most of the season,
- 14:42Speaker 5: certainly leading up to the Olympic break. But you look
- 14:45Speaker 5: back to that Carolina to one win, like that's the
- 14:49Speaker 5: kind of hockey this team needs to play. To beat
- 14:52Speaker 5: the Tampa Bays, to beat the Colorado Avalanche teams, to
- 14:55Speaker 5: beat anybody really is you're going to probably beat them
- 14:58Speaker 5: by more than two to one. In those situation when
- 15:00Speaker 5: that defensive structure breaks down, you're not able to able
- 15:04Speaker 5: to make up for it at the other end by
- 15:06Speaker 5: popping six in the net. That's just not who this
- 15:08Speaker 5: team is. And so when that structure stops, you start
- 15:12Speaker 5: losing games four two, five, one six two because you're
- 15:16Speaker 5: you're allowing too many opportunities at your end of the ice.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Yeah, first half of the year, this cracking team was very,
- 15:24Speaker 2: very comfortable playing you know, two to one hockey games,
- 15:29Speaker 2: three two games. It was nothing to play a close game.
- 15:33Speaker 2: I'm pulling up some old scores. I'm just gonna read
- 15:35Speaker 2: a few scores from the first twenty games of the
- 15:39Speaker 2: season three one two one three nothing three two three
- 15:43Speaker 2: two three one two one two one three three two
- 15:47Speaker 2: one nothing three two four three uh three two three
- 15:52Speaker 2: one two four to two three one three two like,
- 15:55Speaker 2: and you're not cherry picking.
- 15:56Speaker 5: Those are like sequential games, right.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not that that was all like, you know,
- 16:01Speaker 2: in the first twenty games of the season, twenty five
- 16:05Speaker 2: games of the season, the Kraken. You know, if you're not, yes,
- 16:09Speaker 2: you would like your top players to be going. You
- 16:11Speaker 2: would love to have you know, Chandler Stevenson right now
- 16:15Speaker 2: has got one goal is last twenty four games, one
- 16:19Speaker 2: assist his last ten. He's got eight points his last
- 16:22Speaker 2: twenty three games. Shane Wright fourteen game goal rout everally
- 16:25Speaker 2: snapped the ten game gold rout last night. He's had
- 16:28Speaker 2: eight assists in that time. Obviously, you want to have
- 16:30Speaker 2: those guys going, You want to have those guys have success.
- 16:33Speaker 2: But to alas point, when the system is working, when
- 16:36Speaker 2: you're playing the way that you're supposed to play, two
- 16:38Speaker 2: goals is enough. Three goals is enough. That's all you need.
- 16:42Speaker 2: And it's the mistakes, and it's you know, what's happened,
- 16:46Speaker 2: what has happened from LA When you go into the
- 16:50Speaker 2: Olympic break on a high, the winners of six of
- 16:53Speaker 2: your last eight, you're in third place, three points back
- 16:57Speaker 2: of Vegas. To now, I mean, it's been thirteen games.
- 17:01Speaker 2: You didn't forget, you know, of anything. You know, you've
- 17:05Speaker 2: had time off, You've had time to recuperate and rest.
- 17:07Speaker 2: You only had four guys go to the Olympics, so
- 17:10Speaker 2: it's not like you sent you know, your entire team
- 17:12Speaker 2: over to the Olympics and they all came back hurt.
- 17:15Speaker 2: So you know, that is I think the baffling part
- 17:18Speaker 2: is that nothing has changed. And honestly, you bring in
- 17:21Speaker 2: Bobby McMahon, who is now your leading goalscorer on the team,
- 17:25Speaker 2: and yes, the argument could be made sure you would
- 17:28Speaker 2: have liked and maybe have done a little bit more
- 17:30Speaker 2: at the deadline. But I also understand not wanting to
- 17:34Speaker 2: mess with that chemistry upset the proverbial apple cart. I
- 17:37Speaker 2: understand that. I get that it's not an enviable position
- 17:41Speaker 2: to be in if your management, because when you're at
- 17:45Speaker 2: that point, it's like, well, hey, this is the group
- 17:47Speaker 2: that got us here. However, who do I take out
- 17:50Speaker 2: of this group? Upgrade? I understand that part of it,
- 17:52Speaker 2: but I do think I'm with al. I think the
- 17:55Speaker 2: worst part of all of this is not the lack
- 17:57Speaker 2: of offense. It's just the less lack of attention to detail.
- 18:01Speaker 2: It's the lack of playing the way that made this
- 18:06Speaker 2: team successful the first fifty seven games of the season.
- 18:10Speaker 4: Before we get out of here. Yeah, I'll go ahead.
- 18:13Speaker 5: I was just add to that real quick, Mikey. The
- 18:15Speaker 5: two breakaways that were created last night Bobby McMahon and
- 18:18Speaker 5: Jordan Everley are exactly what that kind of defensive structure creates. Yep.
- 18:22Speaker 5: That's how those That's how the auden comes up. Of
- 18:25Speaker 5: that defensive structure. You close gaps quickly, you force guys
- 18:28Speaker 5: to make plays or shots they don't want to make
- 18:30Speaker 5: boom you're going the other way. But when you don't
- 18:33Speaker 5: do that, they just hang out in your own end
- 18:34Speaker 5: fire and bucks at your net.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Before we get out of here, we did want to,
- 18:37Speaker 3: of course, give a nod to a milestone that was
- 18:39Speaker 3: crossed last night. Adam Lars in the Big Cap, past
- 18:42Speaker 3: the one thousand game threshold. He's been here since the
- 18:45Speaker 3: beginning and each of us kind of has a bit
- 18:46Speaker 3: of a snapshot of the Adam Larson experience here and me,
- 18:51Speaker 3: without question, one of my favorite players to talk with
- 18:55Speaker 3: in the dressing room. I love Jared McCann's remarks a
- 18:57Speaker 3: few about a few weeks ago, say, when I first
- 19:01Speaker 3: met him, I didn't know whether he wanted to hug me.
- 19:03Speaker 4: Or kill me.
- 19:04Speaker 3: Has had a Mars's presence, but I think for mine
- 19:07Speaker 3: it's just the calculation, a bit of a reserve touch,
- 19:12Speaker 3: but thoroughness to his actions and his words. There's purpose
- 19:17Speaker 3: behind it. But he's also very deliberate in how he
- 19:20Speaker 3: does it, and so I think for him to last
- 19:23Speaker 3: that long in the NHL for one thousand games, this
- 19:27Speaker 3: is the biggest thing for me, is how much he
- 19:29Speaker 3: has been able to keep up eighty two games over
- 19:33Speaker 3: and over and over, and the one time it took
- 19:38Speaker 3: him out of the mix was because of a very
- 19:40Speaker 3: important family reason, birth of his daughter Alba. To last
- 19:44Speaker 3: that long in the NHL for his position where you
- 19:47Speaker 3: are taking a beating, is remarkable.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Four hundred and twenty three players in the NHL have
- 19:55Speaker 2: played one thousand games. Roughly seventy five five hundred actually
- 20:01Speaker 2: about eighty five hundred, eighty six hundred players have played
- 20:05Speaker 2: at least one NHL game since the league's inception in
- 20:09Speaker 2: nineteen seventeen, give or tank right, So that is a
- 20:12Speaker 2: very small sample size. I don't know math al real quick.
- 20:16Speaker 2: What's what's what percentage is four twenty three of eight sixty?
- 20:19Speaker 2: I no, I have eight thousand six. I have no
- 20:21Speaker 2: idea but for him to des the math guy five
- 20:26Speaker 2: percent there see, look to you, buddy, five percent of
- 20:29Speaker 2: everybody in the NHL has played at least one game
- 20:33Speaker 2: in the NHL. Let or play one thousand games. When
- 20:37Speaker 2: you look at what it takes to play this game.
- 20:39Speaker 2: And it was the same comments, the same words from everyone.
- 20:43Speaker 2: It was his dedication, it was his diet, it was
- 20:46Speaker 2: his regiment, it was his attention to detail. The fact
- 20:50Speaker 2: he rarely injured. The fact that he shows up. I've
- 20:52Speaker 2: never seen Adam Larson take the option on a morning
- 20:56Speaker 2: skate right if it's an optional skate. He is one
- 20:59Speaker 2: of those players who genuinely, I think, loves this game,
- 21:04Speaker 2: has a passion for this game. He's not here just
- 21:06Speaker 2: because he's really good at it and can make four
- 21:08Speaker 2: and a half million dollars. He genuinely loves this game,
- 21:11Speaker 2: and I think this is what he wants to do.
- 21:14Speaker 2: He's very close with his family, obviously, the tragic passing
- 21:17Speaker 2: of his father, you know, a few years ago when
- 21:19Speaker 2: he was at Edmonton. There's a lot of things that
- 21:20Speaker 2: weighed on him personally, but his family has always been
- 21:24Speaker 2: at the forefront of all of this. And for him
- 21:29Speaker 2: to achieve this with his wife in the crowd yesterday,
- 21:31Speaker 2: I thought was great. I saw her in the elevator.
- 21:33Speaker 2: I actually got the meter her for the first time,
- 21:35Speaker 2: and I told her, I said, hey, you know, as
- 21:37Speaker 2: a young father myself, I understand how important it is
- 21:40Speaker 2: to have somebody back at home holding everything down when
- 21:44Speaker 2: we're on the road doing our job. So this milestone
- 21:47Speaker 2: belongs as much to her as it does to him.
- 21:52Speaker 2: But to see and to be able to experience that
- 21:57Speaker 2: with Adam, and the fact that he's been here since
- 22:00Speaker 2: A one and he's played all but one of the
- 22:03Speaker 2: three hundred and ninety eight all time cracking games is
- 22:07Speaker 2: a remarkable feat and I'm just so proud of him.
- 22:10Speaker 2: And then it is it is a really cool thing,
- 22:13Speaker 2: a testament to the kind of person and player that
- 22:15Speaker 2: he is.
- 22:16Speaker 5: How many floors did you guys ride on to get
- 22:18Speaker 5: that kind of a speech out?
- 22:19Speaker 2: To Adam's wife, Vera, Oh buddy, I listen, I back
- 22:22Speaker 2: in my my old pr classes, meet the elevator pitches, and.
- 22:26Speaker 5: Did you reach over hit the stop button and say
- 22:28Speaker 5: that nything?
- 22:29Speaker 2: Give me forty five seconds I can, Yeah, I got you.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Don't worry, I talked clearly out.
- 22:34Speaker 5: I too had the chance to meet Bara Larson on
- 22:36Speaker 5: the elevator. I don't know if you was just hanging
- 22:38Speaker 5: out meeting hopefully yesterday, but she and I chatted for
- 22:41Speaker 5: a minute as well, and I definitely saw that saw
- 22:44Speaker 5: the pride in your eyes when we talked about Adam
- 22:46Speaker 5: and this, this this achievement. And you know that the
- 22:48Speaker 5: comment that you made yesterday, Everritt, that I think she
- 22:52Speaker 5: passed on to you, was something to the effect of
- 22:55Speaker 5: she was, she's surprised that everybody thinks he's quiet, because
- 22:59Speaker 5: at home he's he's allowed goofballing. Oh yeah, kids and stuff,
- 23:02Speaker 5: and you know, we don't get to see that side
- 23:04Speaker 5: of him. I think we're often very different people with
- 23:06Speaker 5: our families than we are in our jobs. But that
- 23:09Speaker 5: was fun to hear.
- 23:10Speaker 2: Also, there's a really good Jeff Baker wrote a great
- 23:13Speaker 2: article yesterday morning about Adam Larson and it talked about
- 23:18Speaker 2: that in there, and and that was a really funny
- 23:20Speaker 2: quote that I thought did and she was like, Yeah,
- 23:22Speaker 2: I don't know why everyone says he's so serious. This
- 23:24Speaker 2: guy's a he's a dry humor, goofy goofball at home.
- 23:28Speaker 2: I don't know what everyone's talking about. So it was
- 23:31Speaker 2: it was very cool to get, Yeah, to get that insight.
- 23:34Speaker 3: He has sat by Vince Done in that dressing room
- 23:37Speaker 3: years upon years upon years. And one of the things
- 23:41Speaker 3: that makes me chuckle when I come by to talk
- 23:43Speaker 3: to one of them, to one of them, if they're
- 23:45Speaker 3: over there sitting down together, one of them looks over
- 23:48Speaker 3: at the other end says, talk to my agent first
- 23:50Speaker 3: before you talk to me. That's how close knit that
- 23:52Speaker 3: they are in that dressing room. Adam Larson BI, congratulations
- 23:55Speaker 3: to one thousand career games. Our pole question, Oh the
- 23:58Speaker 3: week revolves around we're going to be hitting on next
- 24:01Speaker 3: here out of the break Coachella Valley. We've seen Yanni
- 24:04Speaker 3: Newman call back up here. So who do you think
- 24:06Speaker 3: the next call up should be? Is it going to
- 24:08Speaker 3: be Logan Morrison, Jaggar Fercus or Oscar Fisker Mulgard. Vote
- 24:13Speaker 3: right now at crackin audio Net will keep you updated
- 24:17Speaker 3: the look at the Firebirds and our reaction going global
- 24:22Speaker 3: NHL Global Series Cracking in Finland. We'll talk more about
- 24:26Speaker 3: it next year right here on Cracking Weekly on ninety
- 24:28Speaker 3: three to three kJ RFM. All right, Coachella Valley is
- 24:33Speaker 3: picking up steam right now, seven wins in the last
- 24:36Speaker 3: ten games and getting closer to locking down a playoff spot.
- 24:39Speaker 3: They are six points clear of the cut line in
- 24:43Speaker 3: the Pacific Division.
- 24:44Speaker 4: Again.
- 24:44Speaker 3: Our poll question surrounding the Firebirds still ongoing right now
- 24:48Speaker 3: at Cracking audio Net. Who do you think the next
- 24:50Speaker 3: call up should be? From Coachella Valley Logan Morrison, Jagger
- 24:54Speaker 3: Fercus or Oscar fisk Mulgard Morrison right now fifty five
- 24:58Speaker 3: points in six the games that leads Coachella Valley. That
- 25:03Speaker 3: is ninth in American Hockey League scoring. Jagger Fercus fifty
- 25:07Speaker 3: four points in sixty games, by the way, that is
- 25:11Speaker 3: twelfth in American Hockey League scoring as well. For points again,
- 25:14Speaker 3: for more information, check out Cvfirebirds dot com. Mike Everett
- 25:20Speaker 3: and now with you here for Crackingweekly, your mail bag.
- 25:23Speaker 4: We have a lot of questions from you.
- 25:25Speaker 3: We're going to dive into that after this, of course,
- 25:28Speaker 3: and we will not spare nearly anything. And what has
- 25:31Speaker 3: been a ridiculously busy day for Seattle sports the scene
- 25:35Speaker 3: and potentially is future Adam Silver with the NBA because
- 25:41Speaker 3: many are same. Potentially an NBA team could be in
- 25:44Speaker 3: this same building with the Kraken. That's one of the ideas.
- 25:47Speaker 3: That is a big part of the conversation. But we'll
- 25:49Speaker 3: get some more of your mail bag questions here is
- 25:51Speaker 3: this has been a big topic all across the sports
- 25:53Speaker 3: landscape from earlier today but also before that, turn the
- 25:57Speaker 3: page here to Finland. How do we feel about going
- 26:01Speaker 3: to Finland the NHL Global Series next November twelfth and fourteenth.
- 26:07Speaker 3: The Krack intake on the Carolina Hurricanes. Last night's game
- 26:10Speaker 3: went so fast we could only address it briefly, at
- 26:13Speaker 3: least on my side for pregame.
- 26:15Speaker 4: You guys picked.
- 26:15Speaker 3: Back up on this before the comeback got going in
- 26:18Speaker 3: period three. But we're gonna jump into some reaction. First,
- 26:21Speaker 3: hear Copocaco. He's gonna come back home and play in
- 26:25Speaker 3: front of his own home fans, something that he has
- 26:28Speaker 3: been looking forward to, you would think for a long,
- 26:32Speaker 3: long long time. But here's Copocaco and his reaction with
- 26:38Speaker 3: the NHL Global Series announced between the Kraken and the
- 26:40Speaker 3: Carolina Hurricanes in Helsinki this next November.
- 26:44Speaker 7: Okay, obviously a big announcement today with the crack of
- 26:47Speaker 7: participating in the Global Series next year in Finland. Just
- 26:51Speaker 7: what was kind of your reaction when you found out
- 26:53Speaker 7: the news.
- 26:54Speaker 8: Yeah, first time there for me with the you know
- 26:57Speaker 8: opening here, so it's gonna be nice. I mean playing
- 27:01Speaker 8: in front of my family and friends, so it's always
- 27:04Speaker 8: nice to go back there.
- 27:06Speaker 7: Did you ever have the chance to watch a game
- 27:07Speaker 7: like that when you were growing up at all?
- 27:10Speaker 8: I mean I was, I was never I got there, Irena,
- 27:13Speaker 8: I'm in from TV about I mean, never never been there,
- 27:17Speaker 8: so so I mean now playing, it's it's gonna be
- 27:20Speaker 8: more fun.
- 27:21Speaker 7: But uh yeah, what do you think it means to
- 27:23Speaker 7: the community and kind of the hockey culture there to
- 27:26Speaker 7: have the NHL make this a priority.
- 27:28Speaker 8: Yeah, I think it's a it's a big one over there.
- 27:30Speaker 2: You know, they they love hockey.
- 27:32Speaker 8: I mean it's kind of hard to watch NHL because
- 27:35Speaker 8: the time difference, so I mean it's it's easier, and
- 27:38Speaker 8: it's it's you know, nice, nice over there.
- 27:42Speaker 5: Hockey culture.
- 27:42Speaker 2: Just how big is that hockey culture in Finland? And
- 27:45Speaker 2: when you were growing up, who are you watching and
- 27:47Speaker 2: trying to emulate your game after?
- 27:50Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean I was a Sokoki. I'm from the
- 27:52Speaker 8: same city with him, and then I mean I was
- 27:54Speaker 8: always looking looking him and I mean Ron time and
- 27:57Speaker 8: played there.
- 27:58Speaker 2: He's he's a couple years older about it.
- 27:59Speaker 8: I mean he was kind of playing in the in
- 28:01Speaker 8: the team where I played also, so that was nice
- 28:05Speaker 8: to watch him. And I mean it's it's a you know,
- 28:07Speaker 8: big thing. A lot of a lot of people like
- 28:09Speaker 8: likes hockey over there. I mean the national team, those
- 28:12Speaker 8: those games are big goalways in the end of the season,
- 28:14Speaker 8: so I think they're gonna love it.
- 28:16Speaker 7: I know you're obviously not from Helsinki, but what are
- 28:18Speaker 7: you kind of excited to show your teammates I kind
- 28:20Speaker 7: of experience with them and get them.
- 28:22Speaker 5: All all there.
- 28:23Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, Moni Money is asking me all the
- 28:25Speaker 8: time what are we gonna do out there? So I
- 28:27Speaker 8: got to set something up. I mean, totally's from there,
- 28:29Speaker 8: so he he knows, he knows better, and I mean
- 28:32Speaker 8: I been there also, and then I mean there's a
- 28:34Speaker 8: lot of good restaurants there, a lot of things we
- 28:36Speaker 8: can do, maybe a so on or something. So but
- 28:38Speaker 8: I mean we still have a lot of time to
- 28:40Speaker 8: set something up.
- 28:41Speaker 5: All right.
- 28:41Speaker 3: That's cop O Coaco meeting with the media. Piper Shaw
- 28:44Speaker 3: ever it fits you a part of that media gathering,
- 28:47Speaker 3: as we'll hear from Ellie Tolbernan as well on this
- 28:49Speaker 3: pretty soon.
- 28:50Speaker 4: Toby.
- 28:50Speaker 3: Then you heard he's from not too far away, matter
- 28:54Speaker 3: of fact, about forty eight miles away. But this has
- 28:58Speaker 3: got to be exciting here for Coppo go. First off,
- 29:00Speaker 3: he's already got some long term equity built in here
- 29:03Speaker 3: for his contract, and players in the NHL get a
- 29:07Speaker 3: chance to take the stage for an audience for a
- 29:09Speaker 3: crowd that doesn't get to see NHL hockey live a lot.
- 29:12Speaker 3: For some it will be the first time in their
- 29:15Speaker 3: entire life. I mean, Philip Grubauer talked about this. Coming
- 29:18Speaker 3: out of Germany. You don't get exposure to the NHL
- 29:22Speaker 3: game live. Usually it's only what you see on TV.
- 29:27Speaker 3: And then the European leagues are what you basically take
- 29:30Speaker 3: in just from a live standpoint. So not just for
- 29:33Speaker 3: a pure homecoming for them, why this is so exciting here,
- 29:36Speaker 3: but to take the game overseas. Nothing says grassroots growth
- 29:41Speaker 3: and igniting a hockey fan to the next level like
- 29:45Speaker 3: the experience that they get when they can watch a
- 29:47Speaker 3: game live. And this is what Finland will get up
- 29:50Speaker 3: close and personal this next November twelfth and fourteenth.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Yeah, it's gonna be exciting. I think this is gonna
- 29:56Speaker 2: be the forty eighth something like that fortieth international game
- 30:01Speaker 2: all time for the NHL, so ish, give or take,
- 30:06Speaker 2: so you know it's going to it's gonna be a
- 30:08Speaker 2: lot of fun. And I think you're right, Mike. Anytime,
- 30:12Speaker 2: even here in North America, when we travel, unless you're
- 30:15Speaker 2: from Toronto or one of the other thirty one other
- 30:19Speaker 2: cities in the league, you've never got to play in
- 30:21Speaker 2: your hometown. Right you could be from somewhere else and
- 30:24Speaker 2: your family drives in to see you and all that.
- 30:27Speaker 2: But to be able to play in your hometown, to
- 30:29Speaker 2: be able to play in your home province. Even for
- 30:31Speaker 2: me going back to Detroit and broadcasting games in Detroit,
- 30:35Speaker 2: Al going home. We got to meet your brother last
- 30:37Speaker 2: time in Vancouver. You know, like it's very fun to
- 30:41Speaker 2: do what you do in front of your family and friends.
- 30:43Speaker 2: But then it go overseas in a place where you know,
- 30:46Speaker 2: you don't get to go home that often. You're going
- 30:48Speaker 2: home in the summertimes, maybe at Christmas, your folks will
- 30:50Speaker 2: come over. It's gonna be a lot of fun. And
- 30:52Speaker 2: I think it's also great for the game of hockey itself.
- 30:54Speaker 2: You're growing the game. You're showing the international or the
- 30:58Speaker 2: international community level of hockey. In the NHL. You're being
- 31:02Speaker 2: able to show your brand, the Cracking brand and the
- 31:05Speaker 2: Hurricanes brand for that matter. But the Cracking brand from
- 31:07Speaker 2: the first time ever is going to be going overseas
- 31:10Speaker 2: and we now we as an organization, we as the
- 31:15Speaker 2: Crack and Audio Network and all of that, we get
- 31:17Speaker 2: to show off what makes us so special and what
- 31:21Speaker 2: makes us so great behind the scenes, so I'm very,
- 31:24Speaker 2: very excited for this. This will be my second trip
- 31:27Speaker 2: to Finland with the team. He went a couple of
- 31:28Speaker 2: years ago to do hometown visits with Ellie Toulvenin and
- 31:33Speaker 2: then we went to Sweden for Andre Berukovsky at Alexander
- 31:36Speaker 2: Wenberg and being able to meet their families. I think
- 31:39Speaker 2: one of the coolest things for me was going to
- 31:41Speaker 2: Ellie Tolvenin's bedroom at his parents' house and seeing all
- 31:46Speaker 2: of the medals and all of the trophies and the
- 31:49Speaker 2: pictures that he won as a kid, you know, being
- 31:54Speaker 2: able to sit and chit chat with his brother and
- 31:57Speaker 2: talk to Andre Berakowsky's family and go to enter with
- 32:00Speaker 2: his family and hangle out with that with Wenberg, Like
- 32:04Speaker 2: those are the stories that you don't get all the
- 32:06Speaker 2: time and you don't get to see that part of it.
- 32:08Speaker 2: So I think more so I'm excited. Hopefully Ellie Tolvenen
- 32:12Speaker 2: is signed and he's back and this isn't a worry.
- 32:15Speaker 2: He's a UFA coming up at the end of the season.
- 32:17Speaker 2: But for Coppolocco for Tolvenin wouldn't surprise me. If a
- 32:20Speaker 2: Yannie Newman maybe Anikae Coco are going to be on
- 32:24Speaker 2: the on the trip as well. You never know, so
- 32:27Speaker 2: you've got a couple of fins in the organization. Potentially
- 32:30Speaker 2: you could be going back home here in a few months.
- 32:32Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, the world is such a smaller place
- 32:34Speaker 5: in twenty twenty six, and maybe it was thirty or
- 32:37Speaker 5: forty years ago, where people in these countries and these
- 32:40Speaker 5: cities they have access to the NHL, but it's you know,
- 32:43Speaker 5: via radio or TV, but certainly not live. And so
- 32:46Speaker 5: for them to have the opportunity to see either a
- 32:50Speaker 5: team for the first time or maybe their favorite team
- 32:53Speaker 5: come through town and a chance to see them live
- 32:56Speaker 5: is maybe a once in a lifetime opportunity, And so
- 33:00Speaker 5: from a growing the game standpoint, it grows it even further.
- 33:03Speaker 5: Even though, like I said, with the Internet and satellite
- 33:06Speaker 5: radio and everything else nowadays, the world has gotten a
- 33:09Speaker 5: lot smaller. Some people just never get a chance to
- 33:12Speaker 5: leave their hometown, their home countries. So this is a
- 33:14Speaker 5: great opportunity for them to get access to NHL hockey.
- 33:19Speaker 5: And yeah, everything you said fits about Tolbnen and Cocko.
- 33:24Speaker 5: It's such a cool opportunity. I mean, we being from
- 33:26Speaker 5: North America, we don't get it the same way that
- 33:29Speaker 5: they experience it, right, you know, we've grown up somewhere
- 33:33Speaker 5: in North America. It might not be in one of
- 33:35Speaker 5: the thirty two towns that the NHL lives in, but
- 33:39Speaker 5: somewhere close by where friends can drive to a game
- 33:41Speaker 5: and see you broadcast or see you play. For these guys,
- 33:46Speaker 5: it's a chance for tons of their childhood friends to
- 33:49Speaker 5: see them, probably for the first time, play live. And
- 33:52Speaker 5: that's a real cool.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Experience, I think, probably in North America. The most extreme
- 33:59Speaker 2: case that is Dylan Cousins, who excuse me, Dylan Cousins,
- 34:04Speaker 2: who plays for Ottawa. Uh. He's actually was from white Horse.
- 34:07Speaker 4: Way up through a white Horse by the way, I've
- 34:10Speaker 4: never know. That's an adventure. That's an adventure.
- 34:13Speaker 2: So he's tough in the in the Yukon Northwest territories
- 34:18Speaker 2: up in Canada. So I mean anytime his parents got
- 34:22Speaker 2: to come and see him play, it was an adventure.
- 34:24Speaker 2: But I mean, I think that's probably maybe the most
- 34:29Speaker 2: the craziest journey I know. Jeremy Swayman, a couple of
- 34:32Speaker 2: others are from Alaska. That's not an easy trek, uh
- 34:36Speaker 2: for for.
- 34:37Speaker 4: Most Alaska reference ding. Thank you evert Yeah, Alaska croppings.
- 34:40Speaker 2: There you go. I've got bowling green so so No,
- 34:46Speaker 2: it's really cool, real, really cool.
- 34:48Speaker 3: Ellie Tolvenen is now in his fourth season as far
- 34:52Speaker 3: as parts are full time with the Kraken. He has
- 34:55Speaker 3: been part of a playoff run, he has been part
- 34:57Speaker 3: of the Winter Classic, and for sure, presuming he is
- 35:01Speaker 3: back this next season, he is entering UFA status end
- 35:04Speaker 3: of the year. This potentially has experience of a lifetime
- 35:09Speaker 3: written all over it. And here's Tolvinin's reaction meeting with
- 35:12Speaker 3: the media earlier this week.
- 35:14Speaker 2: No, it's it's gonna be really cool.
- 35:16Speaker 9: You know something, you know, dream of playing in NHL
- 35:21Speaker 9: game in Finland and family friends who are there, uh
- 35:25Speaker 9: be able to play in help sink it too.
- 35:26Speaker 2: It's a it's pretty true.
- 35:28Speaker 7: What is the like hockey culture like there? What do
- 35:30Speaker 7: you think the NHL going there will will be like
- 35:32Speaker 7: for the.
- 35:32Speaker 2: Folks that live there.
- 35:34Speaker 9: Well, I think it's gonna be huge.
- 35:36Speaker 2: You know.
- 35:36Speaker 9: I remember when I was looking when I showed those games.
- 35:38Speaker 9: I think it's massive. Everybody everybody's really excited about it. Yeah,
- 35:43Speaker 9: I think hockey is uh you know it's speak part
- 35:45Speaker 9: of the culture from them. You know, they're really passionate
- 35:48Speaker 9: about a hockey players and the national team. So you know,
- 35:50Speaker 9: I think it's gonna be really nice to go and uh,
- 35:53Speaker 9: you know, be able to play in front of finished people.
- 35:55Speaker 7: What is it the top of your priority list for
- 35:57Speaker 7: your teammates, Like, what do you think your teammates have
- 35:59Speaker 7: never been and their need.
- 36:00Speaker 9: To experience Sami soup, Yeah, go to sauna. Yeah, just
- 36:06Speaker 9: experienced you know, yeah, I think those are the biggest things.
- 36:12Speaker 10: And then now different teams are going. It seems like
- 36:15Speaker 10: every couple of years teams are going to hell Sanki
- 36:17Speaker 10: or we're I figured where the Panthers played last park
- 36:20Speaker 10: Ops hometown but Tape.
- 36:22Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 36:23Speaker 10: To to be able to go different teams, it's good
- 36:25Speaker 10: to spread the wilf a little bit, right, Yeah.
- 36:27Speaker 2: For sure. You know, I think.
- 36:32Speaker 9: It's cool for you know, see the new teams come
- 36:34Speaker 9: in and of course Dampa, I know, Florida and Dallas
- 36:37Speaker 9: being there a lot of Finnish beel players. But you know,
- 36:39Speaker 9: it's it's I think it's nice to see different teams too,
- 36:43Speaker 9: and you know, got the opportunity for the finish players
- 36:45Speaker 9: to go there.
- 36:45Speaker 2: And some of the guys you looked up to, uh
- 36:47Speaker 2: you know when you were growing up washing in the NHL.
- 36:49Speaker 5: Now that you're here in this league too.
- 36:51Speaker 9: Yeah, well I remember when Anah haven't played uh team of.
- 36:53Speaker 2: Saani for sure.
- 36:55Speaker 9: You know it's one of the biggest starts in Finnish hockey,
- 36:57Speaker 9: so you know he was one of them.
- 36:59Speaker 3: Okay, soeers, So that's Ellie Tolden meeting with the media again. Ever,
- 37:03Speaker 3: at part of that when the news broke about the
- 37:05Speaker 3: NHL Global Series, I mean, the list has certainly grown
- 37:08Speaker 3: tenfold as far as players in whom they've looked up
- 37:11Speaker 3: to in Finland. Saku Koivu, you hear a lot, Tamusalani,
- 37:15Speaker 3: you heard. Elie Tolden, you heard a lot. But even
- 37:17Speaker 3: I remember back when when Tamouslani said Yari Curry was
- 37:20Speaker 3: his idol and he was one of the the the
- 37:23Speaker 3: NHL breakthroughs when it came to players from Finland into
- 37:27Speaker 3: the NHL, him teaming with Wayne Gretzky and then just
- 37:29Speaker 3: putting up a ridiculous amount of points with the Edmonton
- 37:32Speaker 3: Oilers and then later on nearly winning a Stanley Cup
- 37:35Speaker 3: with the Los Angeles Kings. But I go to this
- 37:38Speaker 3: now salmon soup. Who's ready for salmon soup? Everett's got
- 37:44Speaker 3: his hand raised. Al's got his hand raise. I may
- 37:46Speaker 3: look for plan B. I've got a seafood allergy here,
- 37:49Speaker 3: but I mean, presuming boss will be listening, I hope
- 37:52Speaker 3: they can certainly go by the way. Helsinki is known
- 37:57Speaker 3: as the food capital of Europe, and they're there are
- 38:00Speaker 3: several great restaurants that for those who are by the
- 38:04Speaker 3: way planning to go out to this, I strongly recommend
- 38:07Speaker 3: check out seattlecrackin dot com. You can sign up for
- 38:10Speaker 3: more info. When it comes to player fan tours, sightseeing tours,
- 38:14Speaker 3: game ticket is going to be a big part of
- 38:16Speaker 3: all of this here, but there's just so much to
- 38:18Speaker 3: do around the town, even just by on foot. And
- 38:23Speaker 3: when it comes to restaurants, I've taken a look at this.
- 38:28Speaker 3: The Reventola Palace is big, Boreal is big, Nola is big,
- 38:32Speaker 3: grown as big. Basically, if I can you know, boil
- 38:35Speaker 3: it down to this, yes.
- 38:37Speaker 4: I researched. I researched this. I researched this.
- 38:42Speaker 3: If I can boil it down to this part in
- 38:44Speaker 3: the expression, A lot of wild game on the menu,
- 38:47Speaker 3: A lot of seafood as well on the menu. Helsinki
- 38:51Speaker 3: museums are big, even the sauna. Ellie Tolby then tipped
- 38:55Speaker 3: us off on that if you go back and look
- 38:57Speaker 3: at where they're playing at the arena in Finland, there's
- 38:59Speaker 3: actually built in sauna in the arena. I don't know
- 39:03Speaker 3: if we want to do a broadcast from the sauna,
- 39:06Speaker 3: that would be wild. But this is what makes the
- 39:09Speaker 3: experience here of a lifetime. I can't wait to dive
- 39:13Speaker 3: into the duck if I can get out there and
- 39:15Speaker 3: get fork and knife into it.
- 39:17Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it's gonna be fun. I guess said we
- 39:19Speaker 2: went to I've been to hell Sinky before. Ellie actually
- 39:23Speaker 2: sent us to one of his favorite places in Finland
- 39:27Speaker 2: and it was a sauna on the water and I
- 39:30Speaker 2: had salmon soup and it was I ordered two bowls
- 39:33Speaker 2: of it. I mean, it was unbelievable.
- 39:36Speaker 3: And like I said, so finish your thought here, but
- 39:38Speaker 3: I think we all want to know what basically salmon
- 39:40Speaker 3: soup is all about for those that haven't tasted it.
- 39:42Speaker 2: So if you ever had like a clam chowder, if
- 39:44Speaker 2: you ever had like a it's it's it's salmon chowder.
- 39:47Speaker 2: It's it's salmon, potatoes, vegetables. Maybe not as thick as
- 39:51Speaker 2: a New England clam chowder, but it's more like a
- 39:55Speaker 2: more broth based, not tomato broth based, but more like
- 39:59Speaker 2: a chicken cream broth based, fish cream broth based. And
- 40:05Speaker 2: again I am really dumbing it down for US Americans.
- 40:08Speaker 2: It is. It is a lot more complex than that.
- 40:10Speaker 2: But that's kind of how I explained that.
- 40:12Speaker 4: I may have mispronounced the restaurant or too, I know.
- 40:15Speaker 2: But listen, we we went to so many places. We
- 40:18Speaker 2: went to a spot again I can't think of the
- 40:20Speaker 2: name of it, but we were sitting in the chef's
- 40:23Speaker 2: kitchen right at the table, and you know, they were
- 40:27Speaker 2: making dinners and plates for everybody in the restaurant, and
- 40:30Speaker 2: then they would cook up an extra couple of portions
- 40:33Speaker 2: and then they would drop it off at the table
- 40:35Speaker 2: and we got the taste what was going out. I mean,
- 40:37Speaker 2: it was the culture there in Finland was so cool.
- 40:40Speaker 2: You're right, the scenics were very, very cool. The thing
- 40:43Speaker 2: that I liked about Helsinki is it reminded me a
- 40:49Speaker 2: lot of the Midwest where I grew up. It was
- 40:53Speaker 2: it's a it's a hard working, blue collar people. It's
- 40:58Speaker 2: you know what I mean. It were a lot of
- 41:01Speaker 2: a Detroit, of a even a Chicago. Maybe less less
- 41:06Speaker 2: glitz and glamour than Chicago, but that hard working, little
- 41:11Speaker 2: cold you know, no frills. It's funny. Two point thirty
- 41:16Speaker 2: on Fridays, the entire town gets out of work almost immediately.
- 41:20Speaker 2: We're sitting there. We had a rare day off of
- 41:22Speaker 2: the two weeks who were there, and we go to
- 41:25Speaker 2: h to a little cafe and we're sitting on the
- 41:27Speaker 2: street and all of a sudden, it's like class got
- 41:29Speaker 2: out of session. You know, the streets were just flooded.
- 41:32Speaker 2: And you know our old friend Dave Tomlinson, you know,
- 41:35Speaker 2: he's done a whole lot of World Junior or a
- 41:37Speaker 2: World Championship broadcast over there, and he said on Fridays
- 41:40Speaker 2: at noon, that entire city stops working. Finland stops working
- 41:45Speaker 2: at noon on Fridays, and they all go to the pups,
- 41:48Speaker 2: and sure as sure as day, they noon twelve oh one,
- 41:53Speaker 2: we were shoulder to shoulder with all of with all
- 41:57Speaker 2: the people in Finland. But it's gonna be a lot
- 41:59Speaker 2: of fun real quick. Before I let you jump in out. Uh,
- 42:02Speaker 2: those guys are talking about the players that they look
- 42:05Speaker 2: up to growing up. All the Finnish people, all the
- 42:07Speaker 2: Finnish players, Ellie's, Tobinen and coppol Coco should be on
- 42:10Speaker 2: that list because now you've got folks get kids from
- 42:14Speaker 2: their home towns who are looking up to them. We
- 42:16Speaker 2: went to VT which is where Ellie is from, and
- 42:19Speaker 2: he was participating in a hockey clinic. He was a
- 42:22Speaker 2: coach for a hockey clinic with Miko Rantident and uh
- 42:26Speaker 2: they were chanting and Leh told on none and Leh
- 42:30Speaker 2: told ab none and these kids. When Tolbnin walked out
- 42:34Speaker 2: onto the ice, you would have thought it was you know,
- 42:38Speaker 2: for for the Seattle fans, you would have thought it
- 42:40Speaker 2: was Gary Payton or Shaan Camp or Can't. You would
- 42:42Speaker 2: have thought it was the biggest player they'd ever seen
- 42:45Speaker 2: walking onto the ice right there.
- 42:47Speaker 5: Yeah, Well, that's the thing is, you know, you talk
- 42:48Speaker 5: about like players that come from Toronto or Montreal. There's
- 42:52Speaker 5: there's hundreds of players that have played in the NHL
- 42:55Speaker 5: that have come from the cities, but not as many
- 42:57Speaker 5: from Helsinki. So you know, you're you're a little bit
- 43:00Speaker 5: of a bigger celebrity if if you're from one of
- 43:03Speaker 5: these cities and it's it's you had the rare opportunity
- 43:06Speaker 5: ever to go and see that a couple of years ago.
- 43:08Speaker 5: So that's pretty cool. But I think it's gonna be fantastic.
- 43:11Speaker 5: It's the first opportunity for the Kraken to go do this,
- 43:14Speaker 5: and uh uh, you know, I love the intent behind it,
- 43:18Speaker 5: Like I said, the growth of the game, and I'm
- 43:20Speaker 5: looking forward to it.
- 43:22Speaker 3: Something else to do. By the way, I found this
- 43:24Speaker 3: out Alice. Seapool in the heart of Helsinki. There's a
- 43:27Speaker 3: course of sauna, there's a ferris wheel, and there's a
- 43:30Speaker 3: restaurant as well. Too much to do, so little time
- 43:35Speaker 3: here to get ready, Wait.
- 43:36Speaker 2: A minute, that might have been the place that we
- 43:38Speaker 2: went to now Seapool, really that might have been at
- 43:41Speaker 2: It was like a right in the middle of city.
- 43:43Speaker 4: It's got a massive, massive gathering.
- 43:46Speaker 3: As far as the twenties the thirties crowd, I think
- 43:49Speaker 3: you might, I think you might have.
- 43:50Speaker 4: Hit the nail on the head. But man, there's a
- 43:53Speaker 4: lot to do, a lot to do.
- 43:55Speaker 3: By the way, check out seattlecrackin dot com, or you
- 43:58Speaker 3: can also sign up for more info on fan experiences,
- 44:02Speaker 3: which will include game tickets as well for the NHL
- 44:05Speaker 3: Global Series November twelfth and fourteenth, the Kraken, the Hurricanes
- 44:09Speaker 3: as well in Helsinki, Finland.
- 44:11Speaker 4: We cannot wait for this all.
- 44:13Speaker 3: Right back after this your reaction mail bag and our
- 44:16Speaker 3: three stars right here on Cracking Weekly on ninety three
- 44:19Speaker 3: three KJARFM. Okay, time to peel back the curtain a
- 44:23Speaker 3: little bit on this again. This show usually recorded, so
- 44:26Speaker 3: sometimes news happens after we talk. Sometimes it happens in
- 44:31Speaker 3: real time. But this is kind of a good chance
- 44:34Speaker 3: here for us to round all this right back to
- 44:37Speaker 3: matters that are happening as we talk about them here
- 44:39Speaker 3: in real time. Because we mentioned our poll question, and
- 44:42Speaker 3: we're going to get to this here in just a bit.
- 44:44Speaker 3: Who do you think should be the next call up
- 44:46Speaker 3: here on the Cracking side? Should it be Logan Morrison,
- 44:49Speaker 3: Jagger Fergus, Oscar Fisker Mulgard. Literally after we record our
- 44:56Speaker 3: first segment, news comes out the Crack end have assigned
- 45:02Speaker 3: Yannie Newman back to Coachella Valley. They have recalled Oscar
- 45:05Speaker 3: Fisker Muleguard. So with that context, time to update the
- 45:10Speaker 3: pole question. The next Coachella Valley call up should be
- 45:15Speaker 3: Jagger Fercus according to you, forty eight percent. By the way,
- 45:18Speaker 3: Oscar Fisker Muleguard did get thirty seven percent, but Furcus
- 45:23Speaker 3: leads a pack right now at forty eight percent. Many
- 45:26Speaker 3: of you want to see the circus come to Seattle eventually,
- 45:32Speaker 3: could have happened, wait and see at this point, but
- 45:35Speaker 3: please keep voting right now. Cracking Audio Nett, Twitter and
- 45:38Speaker 3: next Everett fits you is raising his hand over and over.
- 45:42Speaker 4: Let the kidd in classes got the answers, say me me, me, me, me,
- 45:45Speaker 4: me me me. Fitch, you got thoughts on this? What
- 45:48Speaker 4: do you think?
- 45:49Speaker 2: Uh? Yeah, no, I think I think Oscar Fisker Muleguard.
- 45:52Speaker 2: You know, when he came up to the NHL earlier
- 45:55Speaker 2: this season, we talked so much about how he was
- 45:58Speaker 2: probably the most ready prospects simply because he's played so
- 46:03Speaker 2: many games in Europe, he's played professionally in Europe. A
- 46:06Speaker 2: lot of players on the Kraken team said he's he's ready,
- 46:10Speaker 2: and so I'm really anxious to see where he fits
- 46:14Speaker 2: in in this lineup. Logan Morrison, we saw a little
- 46:17Speaker 2: bit of him a couple of years ago. I would
- 46:19Speaker 2: love to see where his game is now. And Frigus
- 46:22Speaker 2: is the only one that we haven't seen yet, and
- 46:24Speaker 2: by all accounts, I mean he's doing well down in
- 46:27Speaker 2: in Coachella Valley. But I think for me right now,
- 46:30Speaker 2: if you're still trying to battle for this playoff spot
- 46:33Speaker 2: and you know you want to make a run in it,
- 46:35Speaker 2: and if you're looking at getting help from CV, you know,
- 46:38Speaker 2: with Schwartz out indefinitely, Jared mccannon missed the last game,
- 46:41Speaker 2: we don't know if and when he's when he's coming back.
- 46:46Speaker 2: Hopefully he's not too far out. He's on the trip
- 46:48Speaker 2: I saw the other day, so he's here, so hopefully
- 46:52Speaker 2: Mechanic can play sooner other than later. But I think
- 46:54Speaker 2: if you're still trying to make a run of this thing,
- 46:56Speaker 2: the guy that's got the experience, the guy that you
- 46:58Speaker 2: know can can hold it down and play the way
- 47:02Speaker 2: that you need to play. Right now, the learning curve
- 47:05Speaker 2: is not going to be that steep is with Oscar FISKMG.
- 47:08Speaker 3: Get to your mailbag questions here again at Crack and
- 47:11Speaker 3: audio nets as we get to one from Kevin asking
- 47:14Speaker 3: during the six game road trip to Crack and needed
- 47:16Speaker 3: at least seven to eight points. I think will only
- 47:19Speaker 3: get one. Therefore, I don't see them making the playoffs.
- 47:22Speaker 3: So what changes do we make here for the last
- 47:24Speaker 3: fourteen games? It's twelve now, But do you bring up
- 47:27Speaker 3: Jagger Furcus? Do you bring up a young defenseman? You've
- 47:31Speaker 3: got to start thinking of this next season. That from
- 47:35Speaker 3: Kevin at Twitter and next. I like the line of thinking.
- 47:39Speaker 3: What I think you have to caution against here still
- 47:42Speaker 3: with where the Kraken are in, and it is a
- 47:45Speaker 3: precarrier's spot, is that you've got to dance with what
- 47:48Speaker 3: you brought to the dance with essentially, so in other words,
- 47:51Speaker 3: you use the same lineup that you have, and if
- 47:53Speaker 3: you want to get players in, you put them in
- 47:55Speaker 3: situations where it's not going to be a high leverage
- 47:58Speaker 3: spot and the risk gets a bit steeper to basically
- 48:01Speaker 3: kill their confidence. That's the worst thing that you can do,
- 48:04Speaker 3: I think to a prospect. So this is why you
- 48:06Speaker 3: have a minor league system. I see the value in it.
- 48:10Speaker 3: I see why you.
- 48:11Speaker 4: Would want to do it.
- 48:12Speaker 3: It's something though that I think until the crack and
- 48:15Speaker 3: have an X by their name, It's something that you
- 48:18Speaker 3: table for now. But I think if you get to
- 48:20Speaker 3: a point where you give Jagger Fergus a look similar
- 48:24Speaker 3: to what they've done in the past with other prospects.
- 48:28Speaker 3: He's on there that you mentioned Fisker Moulegard. I would
- 48:31Speaker 3: love to see what Tyson jug Nath can do in
- 48:34Speaker 3: this system. And defense can take a longer time here
- 48:36Speaker 3: to develop, but certainly when the time is right, I
- 48:39Speaker 3: think that's when you pull the trigger on this, so
- 48:42Speaker 3: to speak.
- 48:43Speaker 5: Yeah, I think the needs different right now. The need
- 48:45Speaker 5: the need right now is you know, like Fitz said,
- 48:48Speaker 5: you got Schwortzo, you got McCann banged up a little bit.
- 48:52Speaker 5: You need guys that are going to contribute to this
- 48:54Speaker 5: push to try and get in the playoffs. Yes, there's
- 48:57Speaker 5: development in that path as well. You're not doing it
- 49:00Speaker 5: purely for development reasons. If this team is eliminated from
- 49:03Speaker 5: the playoffs, you want to bring up as many of
- 49:06Speaker 5: the young kids as you can for the development purposes specifically.
- 49:09Speaker 5: But I think right now this team is still focused
- 49:12Speaker 5: on finding their way into the playoffs. So you know,
- 49:15Speaker 5: my expectation is that Oscar for his grimalgre will be
- 49:18Speaker 5: the guy because he does seem to have that that
- 49:23Speaker 5: NHL fit and and the potential to even contribute a
- 49:26Speaker 5: little bit more than maybe with some of the other
- 49:28Speaker 5: names that have been listed there. But at some point
- 49:31Speaker 5: I want to see them all come up and I
- 49:32Speaker 5: want to see their game. I just until that, until
- 49:36Speaker 5: until the Krakener, either in the playoffs or eliminated, I
- 49:38Speaker 5: think the answer is different.
- 49:40Speaker 3: We get a question here from Gene at the handle
- 49:43Speaker 3: you qt R underscore pass, do you think we will
- 49:47Speaker 3: see Jaden Schwartz again for this season? He is out
- 49:50Speaker 3: right now, and definitely, I mean the injury he sustained.
- 49:53Speaker 3: We're not privy here to all the details, but it's
- 49:56Speaker 3: a very delicate and very precarious situation, nearly getting skate
- 50:00Speaker 3: right into the face. So I mean there's a lot
- 50:02Speaker 3: that goes behind the scenes with trying to make sure
- 50:05Speaker 3: that he's fine and he's cleared medically.
- 50:07Speaker 4: I mean, you.
- 50:08Speaker 3: Guys brought this up. He is on the trip, which
- 50:10Speaker 3: is certainly a good sign. But I think as we
- 50:13Speaker 3: get closer and closer here to the point where push
- 50:18Speaker 3: is coming to shove and we're talking about regular season
- 50:22Speaker 3: games like they're getting close to elimination games, could this
- 50:26Speaker 3: be when we see maybe Jaden Schwartz get his way
- 50:29Speaker 3: back into the lineup. I think maybe, But I think
- 50:32Speaker 3: first I need to see him get back on the
- 50:34Speaker 3: ice in a red, non contact jersey, and that's ultimately
- 50:37Speaker 3: the first step here in this.
- 50:39Speaker 5: Yeah, I think, you know, we saw Jaden Swartz for
- 50:41Speaker 5: the first time since the at the accident on this trip,
- 50:44Speaker 5: and you know, Fitz and I both speculated, you know,
- 50:46Speaker 5: was it to support Adam Marson for his thousands game.
- 50:50Speaker 5: You know, we both spotted him, you know, working out
- 50:53Speaker 5: in running shoes with the team at the arena. He
- 50:57Speaker 5: has not been on the ice, and as you say, Mikey,
- 50:59Speaker 5: that's usually the next step. So is he here to
- 51:03Speaker 5: support the thousant team for Larsa? Is he here because
- 51:06Speaker 5: he could make his way back into a cracking jersey
- 51:08Speaker 5: before the end of the road trip. I guess both
- 51:10Speaker 5: could be true. But until we see him a couple
- 51:14Speaker 5: of times on the ice, I think, I think, you know,
- 51:16Speaker 5: we're we're talking at least another few days, if not
- 51:20Speaker 5: another week.
- 51:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think anytime you hear indefinitely, I
- 51:25Speaker 2: mean that is that that is a genuine we don't know, right,
- 51:31Speaker 2: So I think with this concerning it's concerning, But again
- 51:35Speaker 2: the fact that we saw him. We were talking to
- 51:36Speaker 2: my Assimi said, how you doing, man, what's going on?
- 51:38Speaker 2: He goes, I'm doing pretty good, feeling feeling pretty good.
- 51:41Speaker 2: But it was it wasn't like all right, man, I'm
- 51:43Speaker 2: writing to get back at it. It's like I'm feeling
- 51:44Speaker 2: pretty good, like I'm I'm on the path, which which
- 51:47Speaker 2: is what you expect to hear. So yeah, I mean,
- 51:50Speaker 2: I would say, if if this thing is getting down
- 51:53Speaker 2: to it and we need to, you know, the Crackhead
- 51:56Speaker 2: are going into Vegas and Colorado those last two games
- 52:00Speaker 2: you gotta win and you're in, then I could see
- 52:02Speaker 2: the world where where you say you get them back in.
- 52:06Speaker 2: And again this is purely speculative on my part, but
- 52:10Speaker 2: you don't want to rush this back, especially because we
- 52:12Speaker 2: don't know. We still don't know what the injury was.
- 52:14Speaker 2: Just upper bodies all you've been told, so we don't
- 52:16Speaker 2: know what the injury was. But so you're hoping that
- 52:21Speaker 2: he is back sooner rather than later, but you don't
- 52:23Speaker 2: want to rush it.
- 52:24Speaker 3: We get to a question here from the handle, let's
- 52:28Speaker 3: or from a let's get krack in the handle KTM
- 52:31Speaker 3: one zero zero three. This is a good one. How
- 52:35Speaker 3: does the Sonics return impact the Krakens offseason and future plans.
- 52:40Speaker 3: If things don't change quickly, then casual fans could disappear.
- 52:44Speaker 3: It's roof for the Sonics in a basketball town, big
- 52:47Speaker 3: changes need to happen in order to keep fans attention
- 52:51Speaker 3: in their place in the sports market. I will get
- 52:55Speaker 3: to Everett here in just a second, because we have
- 52:58Speaker 3: been waiting to address this here over and over and over.
- 53:02Speaker 3: I put together a spreadsheet a few days ago on
- 53:05Speaker 3: the top thirty media markets, and this covers do these
- 53:09Speaker 3: teams have an MLB team, NFL team, NHL, NBA, PWHL, MLS,
- 53:15Speaker 3: and WNBA a majority of the upper tier market sixteen
- 53:21Speaker 3: and above. The answer is yes. Seattle Tacoma technically is
- 53:26Speaker 3: market thirteen. They have MLB, they have NFL, they have
- 53:31Speaker 3: the NHL, the NBA. Pending Adam Silver's words, of course,
- 53:36Speaker 3: you heard over and over here on the station earlier.
- 53:39Speaker 4: Let's just put it this way.
- 53:40Speaker 3: There there's still a poker face thing going on, but
- 53:42Speaker 3: there's a lot of excitement as well building for that.
- 53:44Speaker 3: PWHL is yes, MLS is yes. WNBA also is yes.
- 53:49Speaker 3: Detroit is right below Seattle and Tacoma, MLB, NHL, NFL, NBA,
- 53:57Speaker 3: they can support them. Minnesota, they virtually have every team
- 54:02Speaker 3: across the board as well Denver. The only teams that
- 54:06Speaker 3: they don't have are a PWHL team and WNBA team
- 54:10Speaker 3: their market seventeen. Then you get down to Miami, et cetera,
- 54:13Speaker 3: et cetera. Seattle is ripe here for this because of
- 54:17Speaker 3: its infrastructure to prove that you can support more than
- 54:23Speaker 3: just one as far as a winter major league sport
- 54:26Speaker 3: when you compare NHL versus the NBA. But yet, I
- 54:30Speaker 3: think there is a lot to be said being that
- 54:32Speaker 3: you're gonna go from your fifth year into your sixth year,
- 54:35Speaker 3: and how much the playoffs can certainly dictate the dollars
- 54:40Speaker 3: and cents that go into this when it comes to revenue,
- 54:43Speaker 3: and also the attention thing as well. I've got no
- 54:46Speaker 3: doubt there's a tension to be spread all across the board.
- 54:50Speaker 3: It's not one versus the other here. But yet there's
- 54:53Speaker 3: certainly a sense of urgency right now with could the
- 54:57Speaker 3: Sonics be back? Adam Silver said as earliest expansion would
- 55:01Speaker 3: be in twenty eight twenty nine on paraphrasing that, But again,
- 55:05Speaker 3: the intention is there to win and win quick fits.
- 55:09Speaker 3: I have set the table up right for you. The
- 55:12Speaker 3: FOURK and ninth is in your hand. Go ahead and
- 55:15Speaker 3: limited to two minutes.
- 55:17Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, now, listen, I this is great for our city.
- 55:23Speaker 2: This is great for our community. As someone who grew
- 55:27Speaker 2: up in a city with all four major league sports
- 55:31Speaker 2: plus two Division one colleges major Division one colleges within
- 55:36Speaker 2: an hour of Detroit, with Michigan Michigan State, I understand, yes,
- 55:40Speaker 2: there is an appetite, there is enough to go around.
- 55:43Speaker 2: But I do think that listen, and I'm a team employee,
- 55:46Speaker 2: I'll be honest with you. It does put a little pressure,
- 55:49Speaker 2: you know, on the on the hockey team, because you're right,
- 55:53Speaker 2: people have been clamoring for the Sonusts to come back
- 55:55Speaker 2: for two decades. So I do think you know, this
- 55:58Speaker 2: is something that the organ is is not worried about.
- 56:02Speaker 2: You're not worried about someone else coming into your sandbox
- 56:05Speaker 2: because we talk all the time, rising tide lifting all boats, right,
- 56:09Speaker 2: and I think this is a very proud sports town
- 56:12Speaker 2: here in Seattle. You know, we we we love our teams.
- 56:16Speaker 2: We support our teams through thick Unfortunately a lot of
- 56:19Speaker 2: thin Historically in Seattle, but that's starting to change here
- 56:23Speaker 2: in the last handful of years. But I think what
- 56:26Speaker 2: this is going to do is is you're now going
- 56:30Speaker 2: to be putting Seattle on the same plane as your Chicago's,
- 56:35Speaker 2: and your LA's, and your Dallases and your San Francisco.
- 56:39Speaker 4: Right there, DC's there too, all.
- 56:41Speaker 2: These cities that people talk about great sports towns. Well,
- 56:44Speaker 2: Seattle is a great sports town. But now you're bringing
- 56:47Speaker 2: the NBA potentially back, So I think it's great. But
- 56:50Speaker 2: also I will say this, like, you know, you're looking
- 56:53Speaker 2: at the earliest twenty eight to twenty nine coming in,
- 56:56Speaker 2: And of course there's gonna be the cagey language because
- 57:00Speaker 2: and how you're a businessman. You can only say so much. Legally,
- 57:05Speaker 2: you're only allowed to say potentially maybe could be you.
- 57:11Speaker 2: You you transpose a period and a comma, you're being
- 57:15Speaker 2: fined five million dollars, right like that. That is how
- 57:18Speaker 2: these things work. So I understand that people want the
- 57:22Speaker 2: Sonics to sign and tip off in October coming up
- 57:26Speaker 2: ain't gonna happen, right, It's gonna take some time. It's
- 57:29Speaker 2: also seven to ten billion dollars, which is the same
- 57:35Speaker 2: price foot Bowl champion NFL team is going for as well,
- 57:40Speaker 2: So the city of Seattle potentially could be seeing twenty
- 57:46Speaker 2: billion dollars in purchases for sports teams in the next
- 57:51Speaker 2: little bit. So, I mean it is it's gonna be
- 57:55Speaker 2: a wild time here. Everybody is gonna be all this
- 57:59Speaker 2: rollerco emotion. But I think at the end of the day,
- 58:03Speaker 2: take it from somebody who remembers when we had a
- 58:07Speaker 2: Red Wings, Pistons, Tigers, Lions, Michigan and Michigan State football
- 58:12Speaker 2: games all in a four day span back in November
- 58:17Speaker 2: of twenty twenty six. It was one of the best
- 58:19Speaker 2: times of my life as a sports fan, and I
- 58:21Speaker 2: cannot wait for that to come to Seattle. But I
- 58:26Speaker 2: and listen to me telling Seattle people this be patient
- 58:29Speaker 2: because it's it's not going to happen overnight. But this
- 58:33Speaker 2: is a massive, massive first step. But I'm excited.
- 58:36Speaker 5: Well, you think back to you know, when the expansion
- 58:40Speaker 5: of the NHL was announced for Seattle. Everybody couldn't wait
- 58:44Speaker 5: for that first game and it took some time. You know. Yeah,
- 58:47Speaker 5: so you do to your point about being patient. It's
- 58:49Speaker 5: the same thing all over again with the NBA. And
- 58:52Speaker 5: you know, as a guy that's negotiated and signed a
- 58:54Speaker 5: lot of contracts. Your rape fits that the control of
- 58:58Speaker 5: information is written and signed in blood or black and
- 59:02Speaker 5: white in these contracts about them blas see who can
- 59:06Speaker 5: say what and who can't say what and when? And
- 59:09Speaker 5: so this will be a very controlled release of information
- 59:13Speaker 5: between a lot of parties. And yeah, there are some
- 59:15Speaker 5: legal ramifications in there as well, but also financial ones,
- 59:19Speaker 5: so they will be very intentional about how and when
- 59:22Speaker 5: information comes out. Expansions don't happen unless cities are support
- 59:27Speaker 5: and like they're going to. They're not going to make
- 59:28Speaker 5: a gamble on something like this. So can the city
- 59:31Speaker 5: of Seattle support the NBA? Absolutely, They wouldn't be considered
- 59:35Speaker 5: if they couldn't.
- 59:36Speaker 3: I go here to this because of course, earlier after
- 59:38Speaker 3: Adam Silver was done talking crack and owner Samantha Holloway
- 59:42Speaker 3: reportedly leading group here to bid on an expansion franchise
- 59:45Speaker 3: here with the NBA. After course of the league announced
- 59:47Speaker 3: they will officially explore expansion to both Seattle and Las Vegas,
- 59:51Speaker 3: which basically ties right back into Monday. Everything being reorganized
- 59:56Speaker 3: under the one room sports and entertainment structure. Now you've
- 59:59Speaker 3: got the you know you've got the Krack in you've
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: got one roof Foundation, You've got the Firebirds, You've got
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: Acrosure Arena and their interest Memorial Stadium. And then of
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: course they mentioned future opportunities and based on news today,
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: potentially there's room to grow. We'll see. But you take
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: a look and there are comparable to other teams and
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: parent companies. Just look at Monumental Sports in DC with
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: the Capitals, Wizards, Mystics in similar vein Denver Altitude Sports
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: and Entertainment Avalanche and Nuggets, and they had the TV
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: and radio set up as well. This is going to
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: be really really interesting to watch and see what unfolds
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: here in the coming months. All right, to our three stars,
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: we go to our three stars, we go again the
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: Kracking take it on tomorrow Tampa Bay seeing if they
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: can get a split, and the Lightning are as a
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: big of a threat as they can get based on
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: what we saw several days ago. So I'll begin with this.
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: My third star for this past week is Bobby McMahon
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: once again help lead this team right back to a
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: tie game against Florida Al. You brought up earlier in
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: our coverage here in our podcast. The breakaway is that
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: he and everly got were a direct result of how
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: this team plays. And this is why you get McMahon
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: is that once you have chances, you can execute. He's
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: doing just that and we're up to now six points
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: in five games. He had that game tying goal and
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: the breakaway, and then earlier in that game against Florida,
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: just took the puck right to the net. It's something again,
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: a direct line approach that Lane Lambert would love to
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: see this team take moren and this is the big
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: reason why I've always seen he's been a big, big
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: fan of Bobby McMahon. He's got him now this year.
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: He is playing up and down the lineup and he
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: is once again producing since he was finally activated. My
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: third star goes to Bobby McMahon. My second star goes
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: to Maddy Beniers. I thought for again, not just for
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: peer numbers, but the example he set last night in Florida.
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: The goal that he's scored was once again a physical
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: example of what you're looking for out of this time
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: of year. Just took the puck right to the net.
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: And again we mentioned earlier, this team has been on
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: the struggle bus as far as numbers offensively last ten games.
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: Veneers is still finding a way to produce. It's been tough,
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: you know, players going up and down the lineup. But again,
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: I think from what we saw earlier, you go right
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: back to him dropping the gloves earlier this month and
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: maybe a display of leadership. The goal he's scored to
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: help get the crack and rally going in period three.
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: You don't want to play from behind too much, but
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: the goal he scored was certainly an embodiment of how
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: this team has got to find ways to produce offense.
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: Matty Beniers is my second star, my first star. Gohost
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: to Coppocaco three points in this past week in three games.
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: He's fine in the back of the net. It's pretty
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: apparent that the Olympics has him on the right path
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: as far as his confidence offensively, and now he's finding
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: a way to play and produce with Chandler Stevens and
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: we've seen Bobby McMahon also move on that line. But
- 1:03:11Speaker 3: as we move ahead, the size he's got, the hands
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: that he's got, the confidence is certainly growing. And when
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: you had to win games here with this kind of group,
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: you have to do it collectively. Cop ocaco I thought
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: we saw quite a few plays where he's making an
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: impact and making a difference. Cop Ocacka was my third
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: or my first start of the week.
- 1:03:34Speaker 5: Yeah. Some similar names to yours, Mike, some different. My
- 1:03:39Speaker 5: third star is going to go to Maddy Benier's the
- 1:03:42Speaker 5: one goal one assists in the last four I only
- 1:03:45Speaker 5: went back four games. It seemed like that was about
- 1:03:47Speaker 5: a week ago. But one goal one assists in those
- 1:03:49Speaker 5: past four. I think he is continually involving his game
- 1:03:55Speaker 5: in scoring ways that are creative. The one he got
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: last night the rap while I was really a rap round.
- 1:04:04Speaker 5: It was intentionally getting to the front of the net
- 1:04:07Speaker 5: and stepping around the goaltender and spliding it past the
- 1:04:09Speaker 5: post while folling it was. It was an excellent goal.
- 1:04:12Speaker 5: They're not all snipes, you know, willing himself to the
- 1:04:16Speaker 5: front of the net. Maddy Veneers is my third star.
- 1:04:19Speaker 5: My second star goes to Freddy Goodrow. One goal to
- 1:04:22Speaker 5: assists in the past four games. Listen, this is a
- 1:04:26Speaker 5: utility player. He's a glue guy. He's a guy that
- 1:04:29Speaker 5: he doesn't care what line he's on. He's going to
- 1:04:32Speaker 5: give you his A plus effort every single time. It's
- 1:04:34Speaker 5: a great locker room guy, he's great personality. That's not
- 1:04:38Speaker 5: a reason to give him a star for the past week,
- 1:04:40Speaker 5: but I think all that feeds into his game and
- 1:04:43Speaker 5: being a great linemate to have out there, regardless of
- 1:04:46Speaker 5: what line he's on. So he's my second star, and
- 1:04:49Speaker 5: then I have the same first star as well, Akapolcaco.
- 1:04:52Speaker 5: I think that, you know, somewhere in the past week
- 1:04:55Speaker 5: ten days, a conversation was had with him with somebody
- 1:04:59Speaker 5: where something just you know, clicked with him, and I
- 1:05:03Speaker 5: think his game has been elevated a little bit. He's
- 1:05:06Speaker 5: shooting the puck well. I think he's got one of
- 1:05:08Speaker 5: the top shooting percentages on the on the on the
- 1:05:10Speaker 5: team right now. One goal on assist in the last
- 1:05:12Speaker 5: four but setting up plays last game, I think there
- 1:05:16Speaker 5: were two or three plays that he set up for
- 1:05:18Speaker 5: great scoring opportunities. So those don't always end up being
- 1:05:22Speaker 5: on goals or assists on the scoreesheet, but we see
- 1:05:26Speaker 5: him if you're watching the game and you tend to
- 1:05:28Speaker 5: contend to note them in your head, and you see
- 1:05:30Speaker 5: a guy creating offense like that. So couple of cockle
- 1:05:32Speaker 5: was my first star.
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm with uh, A kind of a mix of
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: of what you all said. I think my for me,
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: my third star body McMahon just continuing to provide a
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: spark for this team. I you know, even though he
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: went a couple of games without a point, how dare he?
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: He still is generating offense. He's driving the net, he's
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: going to the to these uh to these scoring areas.
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: He's putting himself in a position to score every shift,
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: it seems like. So he's my third star for being
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: that breath of fresh air with this team missed. My
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: second star is Coppocco for again the reason that edis mentioned.
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: He has had a really good week. He's finding himself
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: in the offense. And I mean a goal and two
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: assists in the last three games, and you know, the
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: Columbus game a goal and an assists and two games
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: the Krack and really needed to be better. Coppolcaco had
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: a plus one against Nashville, he was even against Columbus,
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: and he was a plus one against Florida. So in
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: a couple of games where there were a lot of
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: minuses on the board, Copolcaco was still defensively responsible. And
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: I'm with you, al I wonder if something was said
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: to him after the break. You know that that Olympic
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: journey inspiring some confidence, and maybe someone pulled him aside
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: and said, hey, use that, look at what you did
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: over in Italy and not bring that back. So that
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: he's my second star, number one star, mister one k
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: out of that Adam Marson, you know, just for him
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: to be able to do what he's done so consistently,
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: there's been nine I mean, get this right here, there
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: have been three hundred and ninety eight Seattle Kraken games
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: all time and he has missed one of them. So
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: I mean that is just a phenomenal feed. He had
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: an assist in that game last night against the Florida Panthers.
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: He had an opportunity to score as well. He should
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: add a couple of goals last night, a couple that
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: he near missed. But Adam Larson on his one thousand
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: game for me as the congratulations on one thousand, for
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: whatever it's worth, I'll get him his medal. Adam Larson,
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: one thousand games, you might number one star. And if
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: I can, I also feel that we need to send.
- 1:07:52Speaker 4: No not honorable mention.
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: We need to send our condolences to Ryan Winterton and
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: his family on thank you lasting of his brother Jacob.
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: He had a long battle with cancer and Ryan was
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: dealing with that internally while playing through it. At this moment,
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: hockey is not even secondary. Hockey is last on the list,
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: but the fact that he was able to be such
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: an effective player for this team while having to deal
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: with all of this grief with the brother who has
