- 0:00Speaker 1: Did you see the cops put out a handy warning
- 0:02Speaker 1: for us all yesterday Hide Tell escape or is it
- 0:05Speaker 1: hide escape Tell? Yes? The latter The spooks, their spies
- 0:09Speaker 1: and Wellington reckon that extremist violence is a realistic possibility
- 0:13Speaker 1: in this country. Now they've been saying this for some time,
- 0:16Speaker 1: but yesterday you would have seen a news alert about
- 0:18Speaker 1: this new campaign from police. It's what to do during
- 0:21Speaker 1: an armed attack and a crowded place. Now you could think, well,
- 0:25Speaker 1: maybe they're just being prepared, and that's good. Good to
- 0:28Speaker 1: be prepared, better to know than not. But is there
- 0:30Speaker 1: a little part of you that also thinks do they
- 0:32Speaker 1: know something specific you know? Or are they following so
- 0:36Speaker 1: many suspected terrorists or potential terrorists that they've maxed capacity
- 0:41Speaker 1: and feel like it's time to inform the last line
- 0:44Speaker 1: of defense or self defense US. It's one of those things.
- 0:48Speaker 1: I was thinking about it last night after watching the news,
- 0:51Speaker 1: and you wonder whether maybe I'm just being a bit paranoid,
- 0:55Speaker 1: or is this so plain and obvious that everyone else
- 0:57Speaker 1: assumes the same thing you had. Luigi Mangioni over the US.
- 1:00Speaker 1: This is the young guy who hated insurance companies and
- 1:03Speaker 1: assassinated a CEO in cold blood. Allegedly, you had Tyler
- 1:07Speaker 1: Robinson over in the US again, he was in there.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Another young guy strong Views allegedly took his granddad's gun
- 1:14Speaker 1: to university to shoot and kill a guest speaker. They
- 1:17Speaker 1: reckon hear the risk remains low, but the threat is growing.
- 1:23Speaker 1: The most likely scenario would involve a lone actor radicalized
- 1:27Speaker 1: online through dangerous ideology and grievances. And the cops said explicitly,
- 1:34Speaker 1: this is you know, this is something that is just
- 1:37Speaker 1: one click away. It's not hard to find. It's not
- 1:40Speaker 1: like it's on some far flung corner of the internet. Now,
- 1:44Speaker 1: given all of this, just think carefully about the stuff
- 1:47Speaker 1: that is said on social media, about grievances and about
- 1:51Speaker 1: extreme language, and the need to do something about it.
- 1:56Speaker 1: A recent survey of business leaders he have found more
- 1:58Speaker 1: we're worried about extreme as of than interest rates. And
- 2:02Speaker 1: I think most reasonable kiwis if they're not, they should
- 2:07Speaker 1: be as worried about it too. The cops' advice this
- 2:10Speaker 1: week is an update on some similar stuff that they
- 2:13Speaker 1: released after the mosque shootings. And you just hope, like
- 2:16Speaker 1: hell that we can figure out as a society, figure
- 2:20Speaker 1: out a way to talk and reason with one another
- 2:22Speaker 1: before something happens as bad or worse than that. For
