Speaker 3: in with Wilson and Meadows as they began get ready
• 3:08
Speaker 3: to broadcast from another exciting day under the Dome. I
• 3:12
Speaker 3: got something on that I want to say a little
• 3:14
Speaker 3: bit later on as well. But history was made recently
• 3:18
Speaker 3: as the Kenawa County Sheriff's Office, led by Sheriff Joe Crawford,
• 3:21
Speaker 3: named Lieutenant Anna Pyle as the first female chief of
• 3:25
Speaker 3: Detectives in the department's history. She joins us this morning
• 3:27
Speaker 3: in the Jered Construction Studios. Good morning, welcome to the show.
• 3:30
Speaker 6: Good morning, Thank you for having me, Thank.
• 3:32
Speaker 3: You for being her. Tell us a little about you.
• 3:34
Speaker 3: It was law enforcements, something you always wanted to do
• 3:38
Speaker 3: growing up, something you got into later. Give us the
• 3:40
Speaker 3: bio on Anna Pyle.
• 3:42
Speaker 6: Oh, the bio. I would say, it's been a gradual
• 3:45
Speaker 6: progression toward law enforcement. You know, I can give the
• 3:49
Speaker 6: blanket answer. I know most police officers are going to say,
• 3:52
Speaker 6: as I got into law enforcement to help people, and
• 3:54
Speaker 6: that's astely, absolutely true, But there's a lot more to that.
• 3:58
Speaker 6: You know. I grew up watching you know, Miami Vice.
• 4:02
Speaker 6: I thought that was an awesome show. I was sneaking
• 4:05
Speaker 6: in the hallway to watch that while my parents thought
• 4:07
Speaker 6: I was in bed.
• 4:07
Speaker 3: Were you able were you able to ascertain or to
• 4:11
Speaker 3: figure out as a detective, how they afforded those cars?
• 4:14
Speaker 3: Did you figure that out yet? Because you have yet
• 4:17
Speaker 3: to get those cars? You're not in a cuntosh? Is
• 4:19
Speaker 3: that what you're saying? You're not in the Ferrari? Absolutely?
• 4:22
Speaker 3: All right, go ahead. Sorry, I had to throw that in.
• 4:25
Speaker 6: And then, to be honest, one of my favorite movies
• 4:28
Speaker 6: was Silence in the Lambs, so that got me thinking
• 4:32
Speaker 6: along the federal side of law enforcement. Luckily, I attended
• 4:38
Speaker 6: West Virginia State and I got to play softball there,
• 4:41
Speaker 6: so I was there on a scholarship, so that kept
• 4:43
Speaker 6: me here, and then I majored in criminal justice while there, and.
• 4:49
Speaker 3: Big shout out to West Virginia State.
• 4:50
Speaker 6: Absolutely it was state college back then. Obviously now it's
• 4:53
Speaker 6: a university. So then I thought I want to attend
• 4:58
Speaker 6: law school. So that kind of fell through. You may
• 5:01
Speaker 6: or may not have gotten the best l SAT score.
• 5:04
Speaker 6: And then Kinnaw County Sheriff's Office was hiring and just
• 5:08
Speaker 6: thank god, I think malucky stars that I applied there
• 5:11
Speaker 6: got hired, and I have now been there twenty years.
• 5:13
Speaker 3: Twenty years, and I guess you've done you know, all
• 5:16
Speaker 3: the things in within the Sheriff's department. I mean, you've done.
• 5:19
Speaker 6: You know, everybody's going to start out in road patrol.
• 5:21
Speaker 3: Sure, that's the first thing. Absolutely they throw you on. Right,
• 5:24
Speaker 3: do you remember the first person maybe that you be
• 5:28
Speaker 3: pulled over for a speeding and fraction of the first
• 5:30
Speaker 3: person you arrested. I don't need their name, but but
• 5:32
Speaker 3: do you do you have a memory of that? Because
• 5:34
Speaker 3: I always thought that first one. I don't know, and
• 5:36
  Speaker 3: I don't know the first I mean I know a
• 5:38
Speaker 3: little about law enforcement because of my friends that are
• 5:40
Speaker 3: in it. But I would presume that you know, when
• 5:43
Speaker 3: you go out there, you're not alone. They'll have somebody
• 5:46
Speaker 3: out there with you. I would, I would guess in
• 5:47
Speaker 3: your training period. But do you remember that first?
• 5:49
Speaker 6: Absolutely, you're out there with training officers for your first
• 5:52
Speaker 6: couple of months. Okay, so that would have occurred with them,
• 5:55
Speaker 6: and they push you doing a lot of traffic stops,
• 5:58
Speaker 6: trying to get as many arrests and getting involved in
• 6:00
Speaker 6: as much as you can while you're on that field
• 6:03
Speaker 6: training program. So to say, I remember one that stands
• 6:06
Speaker 6: out no home, not at this point.
• 6:08
Speaker 3: And are you a Knawk County native? I mean you
• 6:10
  Speaker 3: from here?
• 6:10
Speaker 6: I am. I attend to South Charleston High School.
• 6:12
Speaker 3: All right, you're getting all the name drops in there.
• 6:15
Speaker 3: We've got South Charleston and we got West Virginia State'll
• 6:18
Speaker 3: that'll make Frank Mullins the mayor, and I'll also make
• 6:20
Speaker 3: Eric Cage over at at State very happy.
• 6:23
  Speaker 2: Again.
• 6:23
Speaker 3: We're talking Anna Pyle, who is the first female Chief
• 6:26
Speaker 3: of Detectives in the history of the Kanaw County Sheriff's Department.
• 6:29
Speaker 3: The Dave Island Show in five Ady Live brought to
• 6:31
Speaker 3: you inparted by Pinnacle Consultants. They're lead Paint Inspection and
• 6:34
Speaker 3: Risk Assessment service designed to identify and to assess the
• 6:37
Speaker 3: presence of lead based paint and buildings and other structures
• 6:40
Speaker 3: using a three phase approach of inspection, sampling, the lab analysis,
• 6:43
Speaker 3: and assessment report. To visit Pinnacle Corp. Dot in that
• 6:46
Speaker 3: because what you don't know can't hurt you, So explain
• 6:49
Speaker 3: exactly the role of the Chief of Detectives. I mean,
• 6:53
Speaker 3: you hear that a lot. I know you know Cydnia
• 6:55
Speaker 3: Charleston has one in various departments. But what's what's I
• 6:58
Speaker 3: know in law enforcement, there's no such thing as an
• 7:00
Speaker 3: average day, But what does the chief of detectives actually do?
• 7:04
  Speaker 7: You know?
• 7:05
Speaker 6: At Kinnall County Sheriff's Office, we have, including myself and
• 7:08
Speaker 6: the assistant Chief of Detectives, we've got twelve total, So
• 7:13
Speaker 6: me and my assistant oversee ten detectives, so we assign
• 7:18
Speaker 6: their cases. We get calls from our road patrol officers
• 7:22
Speaker 6: to tell us, you know, I'm on this type of call.
• 7:25
Speaker 6: Do you all want to respond? Or they may call
• 7:27
Speaker 6: and say we need you to respond, we need your assistance.
• 7:30
Speaker 6: And then the detective Bureau we primarily focus on a
• 7:33
Speaker 6: lot of the major crimes, the sexual assaults, the child abuse,
• 7:37
Speaker 6: the homicides, fraud cases, it runs the gamut, and we
• 7:42
Speaker 6: also investigate misdemeanors. But we're definitely our primary goal is
• 7:47
Speaker 6: to assist road patrol with any cases they may have.
• 7:52
Speaker 6: And then so that's kind of the day to day.
• 7:54
Speaker 6: You're right, it's random. We deal with lots of different
• 7:57
  Speaker 6: scenarios every day.
• 7:58
Speaker 3: One of the things that's always interested me and I've
• 8:00
Speaker 3: talked to Joe Crawford and former sheriff Rutherford about this
• 8:04
Speaker 3: as well. Uh, and even to our elected officials that
• 8:07
Speaker 3: cover kanaw County. Kanawak County is a big old county. Yes,
• 8:09
Speaker 3: I mean it really is. And uh and I mean,
• 8:13
Speaker 3: and it's a very diverse county too. I mean the problems,
• 8:16
Speaker 3: some of the problems may be the same, but maybe
• 8:18
Speaker 3: even the types of people that you deal with in
• 8:21
Speaker 3: Cabin Creek, Tornado, New filand not necessarily what you're dealing
• 8:25
Speaker 3: with in an area like South Hill, South Charles. I
• 8:28
Speaker 3: know a lot of that's Charleston City of Charleston Police
• 8:30
Speaker 3: Department or the various others. Uh, but uh, you know,
• 8:33
  Speaker 3: it's it's it's a big area with a lot of
• 8:35
Speaker 3: different types of people.
• 8:36
Speaker 6: You're absolutely right, lets of associate economic factors that play there.
• 8:41
  Speaker 8: You know.
• 8:41
Speaker 6: We we've got it divided into four different areas. We
• 8:45
Speaker 6: patrol the West, the East, Oak View area, in the
• 8:48
Speaker 6: Sistainville area, and just I mean imagine that's a lot
• 8:52
  Speaker 6: of square.
• 8:52
Speaker 3: Knowledge to cover it is and sometimes you're doing it
• 8:55
Speaker 3: with not as many people, uh, as as you need
• 8:59
Speaker 3: on the team. And that's a recurring problem in law
• 9:03
Speaker 3: enforcement throughout the country. I've talked to several people on
• 9:05
Speaker 3: the show about that how do you encourage people to
• 9:08
Speaker 3: want to do this for a living? Because I mean,
• 9:10
  Speaker 3: it's a special I've always said, and that there's certain
• 9:15
Speaker 3: there's the three or four or five different professions that
• 9:17
Speaker 3: you got to really want to do it. Being a
• 9:18
Speaker 3: teacher is one. I think being in a medical field
• 9:21
Speaker 3: is one, but I also think law enforcement is one.
• 9:23
Speaker 3: To how do you what do we do to encourage
• 9:26
Speaker 3: people to take your career path? You said you've done
• 9:28
Speaker 3: this twenty years and you thank the Lord above that
• 9:31
Speaker 3: you were able to do this and make that decision.
• 9:33
Speaker 3: But how do we sell this to get people to
• 9:36
Speaker 3: want to do this for a living?
• 9:39
  Speaker 8: Dave?
• 9:39
Speaker 6: If you could give me that answer, it would tremendously
• 9:42
Speaker 6: help with our recruiting. It's a major problem nationwide. I
• 9:46
Speaker 6: wish that I knew the perfect thing to say to
• 9:49
Speaker 6: give somebody incentive to want to do this. But you're
• 9:51
Speaker 6: absolutely right, you've got to want to do it. You
• 9:55
Speaker 6: need a good support with your friends, your family. It
• 9:59
  Speaker 6: can be stressed.
• 10:00
Speaker 3: It's very hard on the family. Me because I heard
• 10:03
Speaker 3: an officer one time tell me that when I signed
• 10:07
Speaker 3: up to be an officer, so did my wife and
• 10:09
Speaker 3: so did my kids, and so did my parents, and
• 10:11
Speaker 3: truthday on down the line. I mean, it's everybody wears
• 10:14
Speaker 3: a badge in the family. It seems like it's very accurate. Yeah, well,
• 10:19
Speaker 3: are you surprised that it took this long for there
• 10:21
Speaker 3: to be a female chief of Texas?
• 10:25
Speaker 6: No, and that's because there's been lots of great leaders
• 10:29
Speaker 6: in that position. I mean there have. I've been surrounded
• 10:32
Speaker 6: by leaders. I've I've looked up to many great leaders
• 10:36
Speaker 6: in my career. And that's not to say there haven't
• 10:39
Speaker 6: been great females before me. There's going to be great
• 10:42
Speaker 6: females after me, and they're going to do great things.
• 10:46
Speaker 6: I was just fortunate that, you know, he was Lieutenant Snuffer,
• 10:50
Speaker 6: chief of detectives at the time he got promoted to
• 10:54
Speaker 6: chief of the Kenwall County Sheriff's Office, and I was
• 10:58
Speaker 6: next in line, and luckily they felt that I was capable,
• 11:02
Speaker 6: you know, to take over the position.
• 11:04
Speaker 3: Well, we certainly wish you the best of luck. You know,
• 11:08
Speaker 3: you're with one of the premier in my opinion, and
• 11:10
  Speaker 3: I'm a little bit biased because I'm friends with a
• 11:12
Speaker 3: lot of those folks, but you're one of the premier
• 11:14
Speaker 3: law enforcement agencies. In the in the state of West Virginia,
• 11:18
Speaker 3: you know, under under Joe Crawford's and Sheriff En Rutherford
• 11:21
Speaker 3: before that. Any let's see, I guess I'll all end
• 11:26
Speaker 3: up by saying, as far as the female chief of
• 11:28
Speaker 3: Detectives go, I think we'll get to a point and
• 11:31
Speaker 3: you said maybe long after you and I are gone
• 11:33
Speaker 3: where it's just it's just Chief of Detectives. And it's
• 11:36
Speaker 3: not first female chief or second female chief or whatever.
• 11:39
Speaker 3: It's just Chief of Detectives period. It won't matter. Yes,
• 11:42
Speaker 3: it's not going to matter.
• 11:44
  Speaker 8: You know.
• 11:44
Speaker 6: Right now we are operating one i'll say, about one
• 11:47
Speaker 6: hundred and five deputies total, and out of that one
• 11:50
Speaker 6: hundred and five, we have about five females. So we
• 11:53
Speaker 6: don't make up much of the department. But hopefully that
• 11:56
Speaker 6: will grow and hopefully, you know, females are going to
• 11:59
Speaker 6: find their niche in this profession and they're just going
• 12:04
Speaker 6: to continue to climb.
• 12:06
Speaker 3: Well, it's a pleasure to have you on the show
• 12:08
Speaker 3: and get to know you, Lieutenant Anna Pile. Now do
• 12:11
Speaker 3: you keep the title lieutenant or yes? Okay, you're still
• 12:14
Speaker 3: Lieutenant Annapolo. Okay, but you're also the first female chief
• 12:17
Speaker 3: of detectives for the Kenawa County Sheriff's Department. I appreciate
• 12:20
Speaker 3: you here. Be safe out there. And the thing about
• 12:24
Speaker 3: law enforcement, I mean, you folks have my utmost respect
• 12:27
Speaker 3: for what you do on a daily basis, and I
• 12:29
Speaker 3: think I speak on behalf of all my listeners. It's
• 12:31
Speaker 3: just like with a military person when you say thank
• 12:33
Speaker 3: you for your service. You folks, emergency services, when you're
• 12:36
Speaker 3: driving an ambulance, driving a police car, whatever, you folks
• 12:39
Speaker 3: are the real heroes. Keep doing what you do.
• 12:40

• 14:10
Speaker 5: way too far. They're pushing a ban on safe ingredients
• 14:14
Speaker 5: in our grocery stores. That ban would jack up prices
• 14:17
Speaker 5: on almost everything we buy. Banning these types of ingredients
• 14:21
Speaker 5: would eliminate sixty percent of the food on grocery shelves,
• 14:24
Speaker 5: hiking prices even more when we're already struggling worse. It

• 15:55
Speaker 3: goes back to sports. Everything in my life seems to
• 15:58
Speaker 3: go back to sports or food. In the nineteen seventies,
• 16:02
Speaker 3: it was very, very rare to have a black quarterback
• 16:05
Speaker 3: in the NFL or a black head coach, and a
• 16:09
Speaker 3: lot of those folks that were trailblazers back then said
• 16:12
Speaker 3: I don't want to be I want to get away
• 16:14
Speaker 3: from that. And I don't. And I think we have.
• 16:20
Speaker 3: I think we have because no longer it's not a
• 16:21
Speaker 3: big deal. I mean, James Harris of the Rams and
• 16:25
Speaker 3: Chargers was one of the first black quarterbacks in the NFL,
• 16:29
Speaker 3: and I think in an interview one time he said, look,
• 16:30
Speaker 3: I just want to be I mean, it's just a quarterback,
• 16:32
Speaker 3: no matter who they're playing for and that's where we
• 16:34
  Speaker 3: have become. And I think that's but I think it's
• 16:37
Speaker 3: I'm kind of a history buff too. I think that
• 16:39
Speaker 3: you should recognize that this is a pretty big deal.
• 16:45
Speaker 3: I agree in part with what the text is saying.
• 16:47

Speaker 3: But when you have somebody in the entire history of

• 17:35
Speaker 3: not wonder female. Just say the Charleston Police deenviroment wants

Speaker 3: all right, point well taken, tex says, Hey, Dave, hear

Speaker 16: speak when I really knew something very well. And I
• 30:06
Speaker 16: don't think a lot of our legislators hold themselves to that.
• 30:12
Speaker 16: Sometimes people just like to uh talk, you know. And
• 30:17
Speaker 16: there are certain people that like the sound of their
• 30:19
Speaker 16: own voice more than others.
• 30:22
Speaker 3: And you gotta admit. And again, I know I give
• 30:27
  Speaker 3: credit where credit. It's funny's funny, and I don't care
• 30:29
Speaker 3: whether I even agree with it or not. If I
• 30:30
Speaker 3: can admit something's funny. Whoever put that video together?
• 30:34
  Speaker 11: Uh?
• 30:34
Speaker 3: And again you can check it out. It's on Dave
• 30:36
Speaker 3: aland Radio and it's also on at dave A seventy
• 30:38
Speaker 3: on Twitter on x uh that that was pretty funny.
• 30:41
Speaker 3: I mean, it really was. And in the argue and
• 30:44
Speaker 3: again I said earlier to show Greg. If you don't
• 30:46
  Speaker 3: want to wear a helmet, don't we I'm not a
• 30:47
Speaker 3: motorcycle rider. If I were, i'd wear a helmet. But
• 30:49
Speaker 3: that's just me. I'm not one. If you want to.
• 30:52
Speaker 3: I think that if you don't wear one, maybe you
• 30:54
Speaker 3: should forego your your insurance claims. You know, why should
• 30:57
Speaker 3: we pay for it if you're dumbing up? I wear
• 31:00
Speaker 3: What if I didn't pay attention to that debate at all?
• 31:02
  Speaker 3: I knew I knew I knew of it, but I
• 31:04
Speaker 3: didn't pay attention to it. But I bet I wonder
• 31:06
Speaker 3: if anybody did come in and say, like, what's like,
• 31:09
Speaker 3: what your insurance rate's going to be like on? I mean,
• 31:11
Speaker 3: I bet they're going to be skyrocketing. I mean, but
• 31:14
Speaker 3: and where are we on being able to stand up
• 31:16
Speaker 3: and ride a motorcycle? That was one of the things
• 31:18
Speaker 3: that was being even I mean again getting credit for
• 31:21
Speaker 3: credit to do Flew Hardy. Yesterday somebody I didn't see it,
• 31:23
Speaker 3: but somebody played the clip in the office of flu
• 31:26
Speaker 3: Hardy talking about evil and evil, and uh, Flew Hardy
• 31:30
Speaker 3: said something to the effect, I'm very much paraphrasing that
• 31:34
Speaker 3: since we're talking about motorcycles, if you put all of
• 31:36
Speaker 3: the bad bills that they have tried that they've discussed,
• 31:39
Speaker 3: that evil can eevil wouldn't be able to jump them.
• 31:42
Speaker 3: Since we're talking says yesterday apparently was Motorcycle Day there.
• 31:45
Speaker 3: So anyway, you know, uh, we started this new show
• 31:48
Speaker 3: Greg next week, and I want the record to show
• 31:51
Speaker 3: that I did reach out to you about being one
• 31:53
Speaker 3: of the first guests. Unfortunately, you are going to be
• 31:55
Speaker 3: out of town and you're not going to be one
• 31:58
Speaker 3: of the first guests in the new Metro Metro News
• 32:00
Speaker 3: mid day show. But in order to replace you, I
• 32:03
Speaker 3: have names like Justice, Morrissey, and Mansion. Oh it took
• 32:08
Speaker 3: all three of them.
• 32:12
Speaker 4: Well, those are some pretty big names. I think. Uh, look,
• 32:14
Speaker 4: I've told you before.
• 32:15
Speaker 16: I mean you you do you know, I do a
• 32:17
Speaker 16: lot of talk radio, and not just this market but
• 32:20
Speaker 16: around the state, and do a lot of the state
• 32:22
Speaker 16: wide and you do a great job with this. I
• 32:25
Speaker 16: think you know you're deserving of this new show. I mean,
• 32:28
Speaker 16: I'm going to be a listener, and obviously you appreciate
• 32:30
Speaker 16: the opportunity to be a guest. And uh and uh,
• 32:33
Speaker 16: I you know, I had some long, long, long scheduled
• 32:36
  Speaker 16: travel for next.
• 32:37
Speaker 4: Week or I would have been there.
• 32:38
Speaker 16: But but yeah, man, I'm excited about it.
• 32:41
Speaker 4: I think it's you know, look, West.
• 32:43
Speaker 16: Virginia is a community, you know, it's one of the
• 32:45
Speaker 16: things we probably you know, back to your small town thing, right.
• 32:47
Speaker 16: I mean it's one thing that West Virginians really like
• 32:49
Speaker 16: to say. It's like we're community based and and you
• 32:52
Speaker 16: do a good job of that here with this show.
• 32:54
Speaker 16: I mean, yeah, you have some political guests like me on,
• 32:57
Speaker 16: but you know, you have you know, you have got
• 33:00
Speaker 16: and officials, you have law enforcement, you have nonprofits, you know, uh,
• 33:05
Speaker 16: you know take you know, will you be taking calls.
• 33:08
Speaker 4: On so the ship?
• 33:10
Speaker 3: No, I'm asking you if you want to take them, Oh,
• 33:12
  Speaker 3: somebody wants to.
• 33:13
  Speaker 4: Talk to you.
• 33:13
Speaker 16: I'll take calls. I take calls, take text whatever. Okay,
• 33:16
Speaker 16: but with your show, are you going to be taking
• 33:18
Speaker 16: calls in certain portions? Because you know, Amanda Baron is
• 33:22
Speaker 16: an actual journalist. Yeah, she is an actual newsperson. And
• 33:27
Speaker 16: sometimes with those I'll handle the majority of the calls.
• 33:30
Speaker 3: I'm just saying I'll probably will. Well, I'll take care.
• 33:33
Speaker 4: Because I like that though.
• 33:34
Speaker 16: You know, I'm on a show in Wheeling and they
• 33:36
Speaker 16: take texts but not calls, and it's okay.
• 33:39
Speaker 3: Well, you know, talk radio has changed greatly. I mean
• 33:42
Speaker 3: since I started doing it. I won't eve been doing
• 33:44
Speaker 3: this for five years. You know, a talk radio format
• 33:46
Speaker 3: and it's changed greatly because there are very like sports line,
• 33:50
Speaker 3: you know, hotline, they don't they don't take because people
• 33:52
  Speaker 3: just don't call.
• 33:53
Speaker 4: They text. Now that's what people don't call in real life.
• 33:56
Speaker 4: And that's what I got. That's what the guy in
• 33:57
  Speaker 4: Wheeling tells me.
• 33:58
Speaker 16: He was like, he was like, you had the calls,
• 33:59
Speaker 16: and he was like, but you know, you've got to
• 34:00
Speaker 16: set up all you know, you gotta have all this
• 34:02
Speaker 16: technology to be able to do it.
• 34:03
Speaker 4: And he goes that nobody calls. He goes text, Well,
• 34:05
  Speaker 4: we did.
• 34:06
Speaker 3: The reason I was asking this because apparently someone has
• 34:08
Speaker 3: a question, are you good to take a phone call?
• 34:09
Speaker 7: I and do it?
• 34:10
  Speaker 4: Everything all right?
• 34:10
Speaker 3: Ryan, Greg is ready to go? Go ahead, you're on
• 34:14
Speaker 3: the air. Go ahead.
• 34:16
Speaker 11: Yes, I was calling about basically a little bit off subjects.
• 34:19
Speaker 11: There's a lot of bills running through the state legislature now,
• 34:24
Speaker 11: and I applauded the average of your previous guests, the
• 34:27
Speaker 11: lady that was the chief detective, but the Sheriff's department.
• 34:32
Speaker 11: A lot of the state civil service workers are in
• 34:37
Speaker 11: positions to calls of the service program, and there's a
• 34:40
Speaker 11: move of the legislature to do away with the civil
• 34:43
Speaker 11: service program. For state workers other workers, and it's really
• 34:48
Speaker 11: kind of seems like that's a real assault on the
• 34:51
Speaker 11: state employees and the business of West Virginia doing the
• 34:55
Speaker 11: right thing. Civil service came along because of the nepotism
• 34:58
Speaker 11: and the favoritism, and big business pushes a lot of
• 35:02
Speaker 11: stuff going on in West Virginia. So you've got law enforcement,
• 35:06
Speaker 11: you've got state workers of enforcement issues, and big business
• 35:10
Speaker 11: say I don't like susy because she wrote me a
• 35:13
Speaker 11: ticket for that, and they met them, moved out, or
• 35:16
Speaker 11: they put their friends in. That's a situation that becomes
• 35:19
Speaker 11: a real problem in West Virginia. Employees and teachers, the
• 35:24
Speaker 11: law enforcement, we are the low run of pay and
• 35:29
Speaker 11: UH and benefits as a state on a lot of
• 35:32
Speaker 11: the things that we should be hired uh now, and
• 35:35
Speaker 11: then they take assault on some of the insurance bet
• 35:38
Speaker 11: church is a bad problem anyways. With the p i A,
• 35:42
Speaker 11: the business of West Virginia is really going to be
• 35:44
Speaker 11: stuck in the lowest of the lowest. We don't take
• 35:48
Speaker 11: care of the teachers, the law enforcement, and the people
• 35:51
Speaker 11: that make the state go and UH. I don't know
• 35:54
Speaker 11: if you have any comments on matter's on it, but
• 35:59
Speaker 11: but what's going on on Okay.
• 36:00
Speaker 3: We appreciate the call. Thanks a lot, Greg, Any any
• 36:04
Speaker 3: thoughts from you on that.
• 36:05
Speaker 16: I haven't paid attention to that debate as much. I mean,
• 36:08
Speaker 16: I do know. I think a lot of this is
• 36:11
Speaker 16: probably a reaction to and look, I think I think
• 36:17
Speaker 16: a lot of what's going on in this legislature is
• 36:19
Speaker 16: a reaction to what's going on sort of nationally, right.
• 36:21
Speaker 16: I mean, you had, you know, the National Democrats to
• 36:25
Speaker 16: push this thing so far to the left on on
• 36:29
Speaker 16: social issues, on the growth of government, on you know,
• 36:34
Speaker 16: just the tax and spend liberals. I mean that you know,
• 36:37
Speaker 16: all this money that the Department, you know, it created
• 36:40
Speaker 16: this need right for you know, Elon Musk now working
• 36:43
Speaker 16: with Trump coming in and doing this Department of Government efficiency.
• 36:47
Speaker 16: You know, So I don't know how it translates to
• 36:50
Speaker 16: the local stuff. What I would say to this caller
• 36:53
Speaker 16: is just, you know, I think a lot of this
• 36:55
Speaker 16: is a reaction to, you know, people sitting around listening
• 36:59
Speaker 16: to talk rate, watching cable news and saying, oh my gosh,
• 37:02
Speaker 16: look how terrible everything is at the federal level. And
• 37:05
Speaker 16: I look, and I share a lot of those frustrations
• 37:08
Speaker 16: and concerns, and I think what you've got is, you know,
• 37:11
Speaker 16: those people that you've got a lot of new legislators,
• 37:14
  Speaker 16: that that's their that's their perspective, right, I mean, that's
• 37:17
Speaker 16: where they've gotten a lot of their information is kind
• 37:19
Speaker 16: of you know, through this, you know, kind of conservative
• 37:22
Speaker 16: national media. And then they come to Charleston and it's like,
• 37:25
Speaker 16: all right, how do I fix this?
• 37:26
Speaker 4: What do I do?
• 37:28
Speaker 16: I think there's going to be some good ideas. I
• 37:29
Speaker 16: think there'll be some bad ideas, But I think as
• 37:33
Speaker 16: you as you and look, and I'm somebody that works
• 37:35
Speaker 16: in this for a living, right, so I look at
• 37:36
Speaker 16: it and say, oh my gosh, how do I go
• 37:39
Speaker 16: and educate people that don't know a lot about these
• 37:43
Speaker 16: state issues? They're they're they're they're focused on the national ones.
• 37:47
Speaker 16: How do I educate them on the state issues so
• 37:49
Speaker 16: they're making the best decisions? And so, look, to be
• 37:52
Speaker 16: honest with you, I like the fact that we're having
• 37:55
Speaker 16: the debate right like, you know, we've been running you know,
• 37:58
Speaker 16: the the Democrats had control of this government in West
• 38:01
Speaker 16: Virginia for eighty something years.
• 38:03
Speaker 4: Eighty you know, so eighty something years.
• 38:07
Speaker 16: You know, Justice ran as a Democrat the first time
• 38:10
Speaker 16: in one and then switch parties midway through that. You know,
• 38:14
  Speaker 16: I look and I'm a supporter of Gym Justice. I
• 38:17
Speaker 16: think he's done a very good job since he's been
• 38:19
Speaker 16: in DC. But Justice had like a handful of you know,
• 38:24
Speaker 16: there were certain government agencies he really liked, right, I mean,
• 38:27
Speaker 16: he was really in economic development. He was really into tourism, energy,
• 38:30
Speaker 16: things like that. But there's a lot of stuff he
• 38:33
Speaker 16: didn't really pay that much attention to. I think bills
• 38:36
Speaker 16: like this are to address that, Like, Okay, they were
• 38:40
Speaker 16: in charge for a long time. We're here, now, how
• 38:42
Speaker 16: do we best run this? And I think that's where
• 38:45
Speaker 16: bills like this were, you know, the concept of those
• 38:48
  Speaker 16: have been originated.
• 38:49
Speaker 4: Fourteen away from ten.
• 38:50
Speaker 3: Vaccines are your best protection again severe disease from fluid
• 38:53
Speaker 3: COVID nineteen if you're sixty five or older, risk less?
• 38:55
Speaker 3: Do more with his season's vaccines get started. Vaccines dot
• 38:58
Speaker 3: gov paid for about the US Department of Health and
• 39:00
Speaker 3: Human Services. Right, I think we have a call for Greg.
• 39:02
Speaker 3: Let's go to the phones. Good morning, you're on with
• 39:04
  Speaker 3: Greg Thomas.
• 39:07
Speaker 8: Hey, uh hey, yeah, this is built from dunbar. Yes, sir,
• 39:12
Speaker 8: do a great job. Thank n I want to talk
• 39:14
Speaker 8: to your guy here who purports to be a grassroots
• 39:19
Speaker 8: campaign uh and launches you know, represents the people. But
• 39:23
Speaker 8: isn't the Citizens Against Lawsuit of Us really a front
• 39:27
Speaker 8: group for Republicans in the big pharma and the National
• 39:33
Speaker 8: Chamber Commerce? And actually aren't you funded by the National
• 39:36
  Speaker 8: Chamber of Commerce?
• 39:38
Speaker 16: Yeah, So the West Virginia Citizens Against Lawsuit of Use
• 39:40
Speaker 16: is a grassroots organization. You know, in West Virginia, we've
• 39:44
Speaker 16: got over twenty thousand members. Uh, you know, taxpayers, small
• 39:48
Speaker 16: business owners, consumers. You know that highlights the problems within
• 39:53
Speaker 16: our legal system here in West Virginia. Obviously, you know,
• 39:56
Speaker 16: we are associated with the national organization called the American
• 39:59
Speaker 16: Tort Reform a Ciation. You know that they have that
• 40:03
Speaker 16: There are major employers, healthcare providers, a lot of different
• 40:08
Speaker 16: people that support that organization.
• 40:11
  Speaker 2: Uh.
• 40:11
Speaker 16: You know, as you know, and I know you're associated
• 40:13
Speaker 16: with personal injury lawyers here in the state. And so
• 40:17
Speaker 16: you know, we had a huge problem where the personal
• 40:19
Speaker 16: injury lawyers ran our state. You know, labor Union's personal
• 40:22
Speaker 16: injury lawyers ran the state for decades. You know, widely
• 40:26
Speaker 16: known that we have the lowest workforce participation rate in
• 40:29
Speaker 16: the country, you know, very low education attainment, all those
• 40:33
Speaker 16: different things, because we just had the worst business climate
• 40:36
Speaker 16: in the country for decades. So over the past decade,
• 40:40
Speaker 16: you know, we've got we've you know, over the past
• 40:42
Speaker 16: couple of decades, we've supported legal reform in the state.
• 40:45
Speaker 16: You know, we we helped to fix the state Supreme Court,
• 40:48
Speaker 16: creation of the Intermedia Pellate Court. We've passed dozens of
• 40:52
Speaker 16: legal reform bills over the last decade. Our economy has
• 40:55
Speaker 16: gotten better, right, the economy got better. We've gotten you know,
• 40:58
Speaker 16: we've gotten more jobs. We the economy for every single
• 41:03
Speaker 16: person living in the state.
• 41:04
  Speaker 4: Other than I don't listen.
• 41:06
Speaker 8: I don't think that's accurate. If I could finish my off.
• 41:10
Speaker 4: What personal injury law firm do you work at? Which
• 41:12
Speaker 4: person injury law firm do you work at?
• 41:14
Speaker 8: Really are against the people and the working people who
• 41:17
Speaker 8: try to you know, when they're injured, they need to
• 41:20
Speaker 8: make claims to recover from their injury. And you oppose
• 41:23
  Speaker 8: all that.
• 41:23
Speaker 16: Name one person for me that hasn't been able to
• 41:26
Speaker 16: file a lawsuit. You guys, come in here, you guys right,
• 41:30
Speaker 16: you know you probably drive you drive a BMW or
• 41:33
  Speaker 16: a Mercedes or a Porsche.
• 41:34
Speaker 4: Which one do you drive me one?
• 41:37
  Speaker 8: I'm either I'll tell you that I'm a working man
• 41:41
Speaker 8: and I'm just getting by paycheck to paycheck, and I
• 41:44
Speaker 8: know what you're afraud.
• 41:46
Speaker 3: Okay, all right now, Bill, Bill, we appreciate your phone call.
• 41:49
  Speaker 3: I appreciate It's.
• 41:53
Speaker 4: Uh, that's funny. I mean that.
• 41:56
Speaker 16: Look, everybody knows, we all know what the personal injury
• 41:59
Speaker 16: lawyers have done to the state. We've tried to fix
• 42:01
Speaker 16: this stuff. And now that these guys have you know,
• 42:05
Speaker 16: and look, these guys now are out here supporting Republicans.
• 42:08
Speaker 16: These guys are out here now given to all the
• 42:09
Speaker 16: Republican candidates. So this whole support the little guy. All
• 42:13
Speaker 16: that stuff. You guys don't care about that. You care
• 42:16
Speaker 16: about getting paid, You care about making money. You care
• 42:18
Speaker 16: about you know, the personal injury lawsuit. Greed is what
• 42:21
Speaker 16: drives it. You know, we pushed back, we got in control.
• 42:25
Speaker 16: You know, we started to get things back on track,
• 42:27
Speaker 16: had the largest tax cut in state history. You know,
• 42:30
Speaker 16: grow in the economy. And you know, these guys they
• 42:33
Speaker 16: weren't making enough money, right, Two houses wasn't enough.
• 42:36
  Speaker 4: They need three.
• 42:37
Speaker 16: And they're back at it and they're giving money to
• 42:40
Speaker 16: Republicans in the legislature.
• 42:41
Speaker 3: Talking to Greg Thomas. A couple of texts are actually
• 42:43
Speaker 3: a few texts going back to Tesla. These Tesla haters
• 42:46
Speaker 3: need to leave people's teslas alone and let the cars
• 42:49
Speaker 3: fall apart on their own. They're cheaply made, overpriced hype cars.
• 42:52
Speaker 3: Let nature tickets. Course, that's a texture Texas Great Morrisy,
• 42:56
Speaker 3: Manchin and Jimbo. So we're gonna get talked at. Greg
• 42:59
Speaker 3: may say some guided things, but at least he talks
• 43:01
Speaker 3: to us. Well, I mean, Morrisy is the governor, and
• 43:05
Speaker 3: so he's going to have time Mansion, former US senator,
• 43:10
Speaker 3: former governor, secretary of state, legislator. He's got stuff to say. Jimbo,
• 43:13
Speaker 3: US Senator, Senator Justice, I should say I was just using.
• 43:16
Speaker 16: They Maybe they'll take some texts don't count.
• 43:23
Speaker 3: Texas. West Virginia has led the way against Tesla for years,
• 43:25
Speaker 3: which operates under a direct to consumer model, meaning they
• 43:28
Speaker 3: do not have traditional dealerships or service centers in West Virginia.
• 43:31
Speaker 3: In fact, West Virginia legislators long banned Tesla's from having
• 43:35

Speaker 3: World all, right so's talk about the. Legislature let's talk
• 47:44
Speaker 3: about some of the. Bills and, AGAIN i had you
• 47:47
Speaker 3: saw what happened with THE wvu thing and you saw
• 47:49
Speaker 3: the governor and The attorney general talking about, that and you,
• 47:54
Speaker 3: know mister mccuski is on the show and says people
• 47:56
Speaker 3: could do more things than one at. ONCE i think
• 47:58
  Speaker 3: that's a good, point And i've been one that's been
• 48:01
Speaker 3: very negative about. That but, overall what do you think
• 48:04
Speaker 3: about the? Session over?
• 48:05
Speaker 4: All it kind of goes back to WHAT i was saying.
• 48:07
  Speaker 16: EARLIER i, MEAN i do think there's a lot of
• 48:09
Speaker 16: these legislators have, this you, know need to address the
• 48:13
Speaker 16: social issues because of how far The National democrats kind
• 48:16
Speaker 16: of lurched to the left and kind of what we
• 48:20
Speaker 16: were told over the last few, weeks right was, like,
• 48:22
Speaker 16: hey we have this like pet you, know you guys
• 48:24
Speaker 16: have been so focused on the economy over the last ten,
• 48:27
Speaker 16: years including legal. Reform our last caller so focused on
• 48:31
Speaker 16: legal reform over the last ten, years and taxes and business.
• 48:35
Speaker 16: Stuff you, know we've got some pent up social conservative
• 48:38
Speaker 16: bills we want to, run and that's what they were
• 48:40
Speaker 16: doing in the first few. Weeks and then we were
• 48:42
Speaker 16: told it was, like, well you, know now we're gonna you,
• 48:44
Speaker 16: know the first month is social conservative bills and then
• 48:47
Speaker 16: we'll get to everything. Else so we actually had some
• 48:50
Speaker 16: pro jobs bills brought. Up we had a couple of
• 48:51
Speaker 16: legal reforms brought up in The State Senate Judiciary, committee
• 48:54
Speaker 16: and they were. Defeated you, know the personal injury lawyers
• 48:58
Speaker 16: have given hundreds of thousands of To republican candidates around.
• 49:01
Speaker 4: The, state which is a. Switch which is a?
• 49:04
Speaker 16: Switch is the first time that that's you, know the
• 49:06
Speaker 16: kind of the first time that that's really. Happened you,
• 49:10
Speaker 16: Know Patricia rucker took twenty five thousand dollars from personal
• 49:13
Speaker 16: injury lawyers earned the last. Campaign she sort of led the.
• 49:16
Speaker 16: Charge you, know she kind of de facto runs The
• 49:19
Speaker 16: State senate and she you, know grabbed a handful of
• 49:22
Speaker 16: people that followed her off the cliff on that. Stuff
• 49:24
Speaker 16: they voted against two very pro jobs, bills and we're
• 49:28
Speaker 16: pretty disappointed with. THAT i, MEAN i, think you, know
• 49:31
Speaker 16: we're we're hoping to see more pro job. Stuff you,
• 49:33
Speaker 16: Know morrisey's got a couple of pro jobs bills that
• 49:35
Speaker 16: are pretty. Good he's got one on, permitting one on.
• 49:38
Speaker 16: Licensure you, know they came out and they've got this
• 49:41
Speaker 16: micro grid bill that they're dealing with that would bring
• 49:43
Speaker 16: in a data, center WHICH i Which i'm really hopeful
• 49:46
  Speaker 16: that they'll.
• 49:46
Speaker 4: Do but there's other stuff.
• 49:48
Speaker 16: Too that you, know they haven't done anything ON, brim
• 49:50
Speaker 16: they haven't made any adjustments on PI, A Border Risk insurance.
• 49:54
Speaker 16: Management there's you, know there's a lot of problems with
• 49:56
Speaker 16: that and and, uh you, know we we need some
• 49:59
Speaker 16: major changes, there uh to keep that program kind of
• 50:02
Speaker 16: solve it and working, properly.
• 50:05
  Speaker 7: You.
• 50:05
Speaker 16: Know and so, LOOK i think the you, know they
• 50:07
Speaker 16: did the, vaccine they've done they've been working on the.
• 50:10
Speaker 16: Vaccines they did the boys and girls sports. Thing you,
• 50:13
Speaker 16: know there's been some of that stuff come. Through uh you,
• 50:15
Speaker 16: KNOW i Know Chairman Mike stewart And Senate judiciaries you,
• 50:18
Speaker 16: know been big on the child welfare stuff and bringing that.
• 50:20
Speaker 16: Up so there's some other stuff that get there, Though, GREG, I,
• 50:24
Speaker 16: well and that's that's sort of WHAT i was getting to,
• 50:26
Speaker 16: there right is is the times now for tech?
• 50:29
Speaker 4: Time the time is.
• 50:31
Speaker 16: NOW i, mean they really need to make a move
• 50:33
Speaker 16: on some of these sort of bigger. ISSUES i don't
• 50:36
Speaker 16: really see any big home runs coming. Through but, look
• 50:39
Speaker 16: these guys could put a series of doubles together and
• 50:42
Speaker 16: still come out of this and say it was a
• 50:44
Speaker 16: pretty good. Session but they need to they need to
• 50:47
Speaker 16: double down on that to get there BECAUSE i think
• 50:49
Speaker 16: as of right, now you, know this has not been
• 50:51
Speaker 16: a great. SESSION i still think they could make it
• 50:54
Speaker 16: a good, one but they're in danger of it not
• 50:56
  Speaker 16: being good at.
• 50:57
Speaker 3: All really, quick and Then i'm going to go to
• 50:59
Speaker 3: will And meadows at The. Capitol did you see my,
• 51:02

• 51:06
Speaker 3: morrisey as the gentleman From New. Jersey he's the second
• 51:09
Speaker 3: one that's done. That give me twenty. Seconds then we'll
• 51:10
  Speaker 3: go to.
• 51:11
Speaker 16: That, LOOK i THINK i Think morrisey's gonna have to
• 51:13
Speaker 16: spend some time after this, session you, know really getting
• 51:17
Speaker 16: around and reconnecting with. LEGISLATORS i, MEAN i think he
• 51:20
Speaker 16: did a good job of that on the. Campaign he's you,
• 51:23
Speaker 16: KNOW i think that's something that he needs to. Do and,
• 51:26
Speaker 16: look the legislature is gonna need to work with him.
• 51:28
Speaker 16: Too it's just a matter of figuring out this new.
