- 2:53June sixth. I'm gonna be off those days as well. So I'll be
- 2:55calling in coop for the hot tag there, Jeff. Let's bring in now
- 3:01our weekly visits with Hannah Gardner from the Kennel Charlesty Maine Association, with this
- 3:06week's Adopt Me Please pet of the Week. Hannah, Good morning and welcome
- 3:08to the show. Good morning. How are you. I'm doing fine.
- 3:13I'm still still struggling trying to get through this whole sion of this thing.
- 3:15Now I've given it to my wife, so so we can we can enjoy
- 3:19the long weekend together, you know, with a whole lot of snot how's
- 3:23that? I have also thought that too much information. It's it's rough.
- 3:29It's been one week today that I've don't you know, don't feel bad or
- 3:30anything, just trying to get just trying to get through it all. All
- 3:34right, let's talk about our doct me please pet of the week. Woody,
- 3:38not Woody Woods, just plain Woody. Uh. Picture posted a Dave
- 3:42Alland Radio on Facebook and the Dave Allan Chill on ex Hannah tell us about
- 3:46Woody. All right, So Woody came in with a litter of like the
- 3:52whole litter was seven of them, uh, and they all loost relatively similar
- 3:57to that. Some of them had some brown, some of them are just
- 4:00black and white, but not sure what they are or anything like that,
- 4:03but they did. They were found at Thomas Hospital and somebody just brought them
- 4:10into us. Woody is the last one that's left. Wood He already got
- 4:15adopted once, but they were actually found out that they were allergic, so
- 4:17they had to bring him back. Yeah, so no fault in his own
- 4:21or anything like that, but he is around two months almost three months old,
- 4:28and he isn't fixed yet, but he will be fixed, and he
- 4:31is a puppy, so somebody that's ready for a puppy. But he would
- 4:34be great for a family who's looking for like a family dog or something like
- 4:40that, or even I would even consider him to be a good which again
- 4:44I don't know what he is, but he gives me like some sort of
- 4:47working dog or mountain dog or collie or something like that. So maybe even
- 4:55a good one for somebody who's got like a farm and wants to train them
- 4:58on that stuff. But he's definitely real sweetie. We took him along with
- 5:03his siblings when they were still there to an event, all of them and
- 5:08they all were just so sweet, and they would lay around for a little
- 5:13bit, but you know, they're puppies, so they would get up and
- 5:15play for a good fifteen twenty minutes and then they'd be out for the rest
- 5:18of the day. But they they are. He is very, very sweet,
- 5:23and he is needing a good home and a good yard to run around
- 5:28in. He's a beautiful dog. And again I've got the picture posted as
- 5:30always on my social media. It's Dave Island Radio on anexed on the Day
- 5:33Island Show, and I agree with you. I'm not an expert on dog
- 5:36breeds, but the first thing I thought when I was on when I saw
- 5:40the picture of the dog Hannah, was some kind of a working dog breed.
- 5:44It's a beautiful, beautiful dog and would make a great pet for somebody.
- 5:48As what you were saying, we'll get back to Woody here in a
- 5:51couple of months. Do want to remind you that The Day Island Showing five
- 5:54eighty Live is brought to you in part by Bridge Valley. If you're interested

- 6:12apprenticeship today for more information. While we're on the subjects of puppies, hand,
- 6:15I know you guys got in some puppies this weekend. Seven to be
- 6:18exactly need to be fostered. What's the story there. Yeah, so those
- 6:24puppies actually I think they have like a skin condition, but it's non contagious
- 6:30or anything like that. So they just need a place to rest and a
- 6:33place to heal and a place to kind of get a little bit older before
- 6:38they're available for adoption. So they're not and they don't have like a mom
- 6:42that they're eating off of or anything like that, but they are needing a
- 6:46foster. I'm not quite sure if they've found a foster yet or not,
- 6:48but you could always call and ask and be one hundred percent sure. But
- 6:53they're there were seven of them, and I believe that they are eating gruel,
- 6:58so that's just like wet food and formula mixture until they kind of progress
- 7:03to be able to eat hard food only. Okay, they're beautiful, and
- 7:09again you get pictures of them posted on your social media. I know that
- 7:12now that summertime is arriving, it would be a great opportunity to get involved
- 7:16volunteeringly, particularly for younger people. Now I was reading on your site you've
- 7:19got to be sixteen enough to get involved, but those community service hours are
- 7:24very important to you young folks in school. You need some volunteers up there.
- 7:30Yes, we always need some volunteers. We've been getting in a lot
- 7:32more animals lately. I believe we're actually full as fool as we can be
- 7:36with the whole UHUL crash and everything, So we can't use that one section
- 7:40still, but we're full up to where we can use so cats and dogs
- 7:45both. But we do take volunteers. And if you are under sixteen but
- 7:50you're just wanting to come up and volunteer and do some other things that aren't
- 7:55like walking the dogs and stuff, you can come as long as you have
- 7:58a guardian with you at all times. But yes, you could definitely come
- 8:01and volunteer. You can also foster. You can also donate if you can't
- 8:05do that, So we're definitely looking for a lot of things at the moment,
- 8:09and we definitely appreciate everything we can get. How are your kennel numbers
- 8:13looking, Hannah? I note that on Tuesday we had around one hundred something
- 8:20dog, so that is pretty close to what we normally would have even with
- 8:28the section open. Of course, we would have a good bit more,
- 8:31but I think we were at like one seventeen or something like that. I'm
- 8:35not sure what we are at today or right now, but I'm sure it's
- 8:39still around the same thing because we've been seeing the same thing that we see
- 8:43every year pretty much kind of all the time. Now is where we get
- 8:48one out and another one comes in, We get one out and then two
- 8:50more come in. So it's kind of just like a a waiting game of
- 8:54hoping that everybody finds a puppy or a dog or a cat or a kitten
- 8:58and a dot them and we can hopefully get a lot of them out.
- 9:01Text to the show here, someone wanted to know how are the cats doing.
- 9:05What's your situation on cats there at the shelter? Kind of the same
- 9:09situation. We have been pretty cool with cats and kittens. I know that
- 9:13we have a lot out in foster right now as well that are kittens with
- 9:18moms or without moms, so those will be returning. And you know,
- 9:22a lot of people will ask us why we have like a cage or too
- 9:26open or something like that when we say we're full, but that's solely because
- 9:28we have some coming back from foster. And we also try to keep at
- 9:33least one or two open for an emergency situation as well. So when we
- 9:37say we're full, yeah, we might have one or two open, but
- 9:39we already have plans for those ones. So that's usually why we have one
- 9:43or two open well. And as you said, you have a lot out
- 9:46on foster, and sometimes sadly you had these emergency situations that just happened,
- 9:50like with our Pet of the week where you suddenly get you know, seven
- 9:52one time right before we let you go. I understand you've got a vent
- 9:56going on today at Moses toyot to South in St. Albans. It's a
- 10:03care of Van c a r E A Van event. You're gonna have some
- 10:05animals out there available for adoption, Is that right? Yes, we will
- 10:09be there from twelve to four today and we of course we'll always have a
- 10:15lot of animals at the shelter, So if you can't make it out to
- 10:18Saint Albans, you always go up to the shelter. But we will be
- 10:20in St Albans today from twelve to four. I believe we won't be there
- 10:24tomorrow as well, but we will have a lot of puppies. I'm not
- 10:28sure if we'll have cast our kittens quite yet. We usually try to figure
- 10:31that out right before we leave, to make sure that we have enough of
- 10:35everything, which of course we do right now. But we will have puppies.
- 10:39We may have a couple of adult adult dogs as well, but definitely
- 10:43come out twelve to four and it is on two thousand and one the Corporal
- 10:48Avenue southwest in St Albans. All right, all right, we appreciate you
- 10:54taking time to be with us. The best of luck with your event and
- 10:56have a have a safe Memorial weekend. I appreciate you being here a Hannibal.
- 11:00Talk again next week. Thanks a lot. All right again, let's
- 11:03go get wood. He adopted Woody, not woods just Woody is our pet
- 11:09of the week. Came from a litter of seven found not long ago at
- 11:13Thomas Memorial Hospital. He's male, two months old. He was adopted.
- 11:18At one pointment they had to bring him back because they found out the adopters
- 11:22found out that they were allergic and they had to bring him back. Unfortunately,
- 11:26Woody is not fixed she but will be. He is vaccinated and micro
- 11:30Chip does great with other dogs. Probably going to be a little bit on
- 11:33the larger side his hand and I were talking, probably a working dog kind
- 11:37of a thing, so maybe maybe a fifty pound or so dog. Eventually,
- 11:41probably going to be a dog that needs a room to run, but
- 11:43a super super sweet dog. Loves to kind of hang out with you.
- 11:46And again just a if you're this is one of the all animals to me
- 11:52are are beautiful creatures. This animal is especially a beautiful creature. If you
- 11:58want to go see wood picture, go over to my Facebook page Dave Allen
- 12:01Radio or the Dave Allen Show and Axe the Artists formally known as Twitter,
- 12:05and let's try to get Woody adopted. He would be a fantastic dog.
- 12:09You know, sometimes I like to push the older dog sometimes, but sometimes
- 12:11people want the younger once. He's only two months old. Not fixed,
- 12:15Shevil will be vaccinated. Microchip loves other dogs, loves kids, loves all
- 12:20humans, get out there and let's get Woody home. The Dave Allen Show

- 12:46his snake bite injuries from a week or so ago, We're going to talk
- 12:50Doug plus Skanankanty commissioned preident Lanceweela will be stopping by Texas. Dave. Can
- 12:54I please just make one request of everyone, Please do not refer to Memorial
- 12:58Day as I holiday or say happy Memorial Day. It's a day of observance

- 17:06This is great. This is my Christmas pointing this. Yeah. It
- 17:08was a long, cold, damp winter. This is our just reward.
- 17:12It is our twentieth anniversary of the Moses Utter Group Live a Levey. We
- 17:18do launch tonight. It is First Responder and Military Night, so of course
- 17:22we're going to honor our first responders and our military. We're going to do
- 17:26that with some fireworks beginning at nine thirty tonight before we get to the fireworks
- 17:30starting at six thirty down and had that Riverfront Park. Something special, little
- 17:34something, something for everybody. Something special. Will be jamming and they have
- 17:38been jamming and entertaining audiences in the Kannaal Valley for just about a decade now.
- 17:42They're pretty jazzy. They like to sing and they like to dance.
- 17:45Of course they like to sing, right, they've got to sing. It'll
- 17:48be a little dance group. So we'll get things rolling and rocking then at
- 17:52six thirty and then I really pretty jacked about this. I look forward.
- 17:56I listened to a couple of their tunes on YouTube. Seven forty five.
- 18:00They're going to come on stage, center stage. They'll do two forty five
- 18:03minutes. That schedule is the same as there's always been guys from years past.
- 18:07Groove Marmalade will take center stage. The ultimate dance band. There's about
- 18:12eight or nine members. They hail from Toronto up in Canada. They have
- 18:18been playing for a blow over a decade and they play everything fifties, sixties,
- 18:22seventies, eighties, nineties, today, current hits. They play Latin,
- 18:26they got some Caribbean and they're just always moving. They take turns singing,
- 18:30they take turns dancing. They got the choreographed. There's a lot of
- 18:33activity, a lot of action, and if you like to dance, I
- 18:37think tonight dann at Hadad is going to be the place to be. So,
- 18:41I mean, when your name is groove Marmalade, you better be groovy,
- 18:44right, Yeah, you better be groove. It's not going to be
- 18:45a funeral march mart be that. So I'm I'm pretty I'm pretty jacked.
- 18:49I think the selection committee did a nice job. You know, we've got
- 18:53we're gonna We're gonna go all the way through mid August this year. Again,
- 18:59Dave, we say it every week and I'll say it every week.
- 19:00Yeah, this might not be your groove tonight, but there'll be a night
- 19:03when it is groove. We'll have some country throughout the throughout the season.
- 19:08We'll have a little rock, we'll have a little roll, we'll have a
- 19:11little different, we'll have a little alternative. We'll have different vibes for different
- 19:15audiences. But it's always just fun to come down, grab a bite thee,
- 19:18get your favorite beverage, buy a fifty to fifty ticket. We've been
- 19:23doing these same five inner city charities for the last nineteen seasons. We say
- 19:29Live a Levy's great fun, and it is, but we also say it's
- 19:33for a great cause, and we help these five inner city charities, the
- 19:36Covenant House Man and Meal RCCR, the Sojourners Shelter, and the Canall Valley
- 19:41Collective. All those charities are within the city limits of Charleston, and they
- 19:45all help individuals who are looking for maybe a bite to eat and a place
- 19:51to lay down at night. We've raised one hundred and twenty thousand dollars the
- 19:55last nineteen seasons from this fifty to fifty so it does add up. Your
- 20:00dollar and five dollars and ten dollars contribution to buy fifty to fifty tickets does
- 20:04pay off and does help. If you don't like the music, that's okay.
- 20:08Like I said, come down. The vibe is good, the neighbors
- 20:11are good. That just the whole atmosphere, the ambiance, the music will
- 20:15be popping. But you just want to come down see your neighbors, enjoy
- 20:19the fellowship. The city of Charleston's off to really an amazing start to the
- 20:25summer. With that bicycling event last week. We got to see our neighbors
- 20:29in This will be very similar yet with music. It was fun having the
- 20:33bikers here. Now they parted and now make way for our Live on Levy
- 20:37season to start tonight we have I guess it's all the way to August to
- 20:41night. I don't know how many weeks that is. Not every week is
- 20:42a Live on Levee night, Some weeks are multi fest, some weeks are
- 20:47storing realer God of nights. But it's here, Dave, and I know
- 20:51you like music. You're a music guy. You're pumped for the season.
- 20:55I didn't bring the schedule with me, but you look to some of the
- 20:56schedule, anything pop out to you excited, and it all does. And
- 21:00that's the thing that I like about it is because again it's something for everyone
- 21:04down there, and I love the fact that we for Live on the Levee.
- 21:08You bring in people from out of town, but there's also a lot
- 21:11of local that was last year something special, obviously local. We do have
- 21:17a lot of locals. Jash Josh Pantry local guy headlining on January June the
- 21:22twenty eighth. At the press conference two weeks ago. I literally learned about
- 21:26the schedule at the press conference, Like everyone else. People thinking, Jim,
- 21:30who's playing this year? I got, I don't know. Wait for
- 21:32the press conference. You know, I secure partners and I introduced the bands.
- 21:36That's my role for the levee. But when I found out next Friday
- 21:38night, I don't want to jump ahead next Friday night, May the thirty
- 21:41first. When I found out Night Beaver was coming a tribute to Beg's,
- 21:45I was beside myself. I can hardly contain myself. I used to kind
- 21:51of hide the fact that I was a Beg's band because you know, it
- 21:52was kind of a you know, if you didn't know disco. But now
- 21:56I at my age, I could give a rip. I love disco and
- 21:57I love the Bgs. Thing about the Beches is though, and I watched
- 22:02the documentary a couple of years ago about the about the Begs, and a
- 22:04lot of people think the Beg's is just disco. They forget that they had
- 22:08a crap ton of hits well before Saturday Night Fever Ever came out, and
- 22:12that they were unlike a lot of artists of the disco era, Jim,
- 22:17they were actual musicians. A lot of the disco stuff was manufactured in studios
- 22:21and so on so but they actually played guitar, they actually did the music,
- 22:25and the brilliant singers, brilliant musicians. And I've listened to the Night
- 22:29Fever tribute band, and it's going to be a special as is as is

- 23:06people that do that. Well, Mom, if you're listening, I love

- 25:03thanks to the City of Charleston and Parks and Recreation. They actually purchased these
- 25:07T shirts and toss them out through the season. They're coveted. I never
- 25:11see people go crazy for these T shirts. I don't even have one,
- 25:14Steve, when I were talking, we don't even have a T shirt.
- 25:17But the City of Charleston tosses them out. You can get one if you
- 25:19come down to night and you're fortunate enough to get a T shirt thrown out

- 30:48It's a no for me, dog says Texter. All right, there you
- 30:52come. Welcome to knawh Aunty. Commission President Lance Wheeler, Good morning,
- 30:56sir, how are you. Good morning, Dave. Thanks for having me
- 30:59on. Thank you for being here. It's been quite a year for the
- 31:02Commission, just over a years so ago, the news out with now former
- 31:06Commission Kent Carper. Before we talk about moving forward, anything you'd like to
- 31:10say about the legacy maybe of Kent Carper. Well, I think we don't
- 31:14want to throw the baby out with the bathwater, and we need to remember
- 31:18what Kent has done for this county. Whether it's our first responders, whether
- 31:22it's the complex with the safety complex there, making sure we have a place
- 31:27for our sheriff's office and the prosecutor's office, the water projects. I mean,
- 31:32those lists go on. But you know what we do today. We
- 31:34move on and we're going to look forward and do exactly what this Commission has
- 31:38always done. That's being transparent, that's being efficient with the taxpayer's money,
- 31:44and making sure that we're doing everything we can to bring prosperity here to Kennell
- 31:47County. And I think we're going to do just that. Mister Carper.
- 31:49Of course, loss has bid for reelection of the Democratic ticket, losing to
- 31:52former Secretary of State in Natalie Tenda. By now we all know the timeline.
- 31:56Mister Carper resigned two weeks ago today, which was the priday for the
- 32:00primary election. He was still on the ballot but lost Natalie Tenant. Chris
- 32:02Walter's won the battle on the Republican side, so now he and Natalie will
- 32:06face off in the fall. But before that happens, the commission has to
- 32:08appoint someone to finish out Kent. Carper's term has to be a Democrat.
- 32:13We know that because that was a party of Carper and has to be for
- 32:16magisterial districts one or three. Since you and Commissioner Salango occupy slots from the
- 32:21other two, you've been accepting applications. How's that been going? Well,
- 32:24I think what we want to make sure we're doing is being transparent about this
- 32:28process and looking at every option possible. And so I know Commissioner Slango agrees,
- 32:32He's came right here on this show with you explaining that as well.
- 32:36And so what we've done is we've created an application process to where you email
- 32:39a resume and maybe some words of why you believe you would be a good
- 32:43fit for the next seven months as a county commissioner here in Kanola County,
- 32:46and so we've been receiving those applicants. Today is the last day. Once
- 32:51those have been looked at. We're going to make sure that we Commissioner Slango
- 32:53and I individually look at these over the week. We'll meet next Thursday and
- 33:00we'll have an open discussion in front of the public, in front of the
- 33:01media, and we'll discuss who we believe should be the next county commissioner for
- 33:06these seven months temporarily. Now, I don't want to put you on the
- 33:08spot here, but we do know that Democratic nomine Natalie Tenant, and she
- 33:13said so on this show, would like to be considered for that appointment early,
- 33:15filling out their remaining term of carper. Of course, she'd still have
- 33:19to run in November, because again, this is filling out that term.
- 33:23Is that something that you have thought about yet, well, as far as
- 33:28as Natalie Tenant getting that or are you still kind of so I don't want
- 33:32to put you on the spot, but are you still kind of weighing it
- 33:36all? Well, she's open to apply and we'll consider that obviously, like
- 33:38we're going to consider everybody. But you know, Dave, like I said,
- 33:42we're being transparent about this. We're looking at all the options that we
- 33:45have in front of us to fill the next seven months. What's wrong with
- 33:47that? What's wrong with being transparent and not already having a choice with an
- 33:52individual that you know, with Miss Tenant, you know, I like her.
- 33:55I think she's a great person. However, you know, she ran
- 33:59essentially unopposed in a primary. She wasn't on everyone's ballot. You know,
- 34:02at the end of the day, I think we need to make sure that
- 34:06we allow the elections to work and allow the voters to decide who that should
- 34:07be. So we're going to look to find somebody that I believe can fill
- 34:13this temporarily, who already has the information and knowledge of how the county works,
- 34:17how has the community support. And we have a lot of projects coming
- 34:22up. We have the judicial upgrades that's going to be a rough eleven to
- 34:24thirteen million dollar project. We've got to get that done now. We just
- 34:29had an election for our judicial races. Those individuals will be taking the seats
- 34:32in January first of twenty twenty five, and those are three new magistrates and
- 34:37one new Circuit judge. We got to find somewhere to put them, and
- 34:39this is going to be a difficult task. You know. We've got the
- 34:43Capital City Sports Complex, We've got the Hatfill McCoy trails out in Tornado,
- 34:46We've got the Clinton and Gravity Trails that's going to be coming in. We've
- 34:52got a lot of things moving forward. So we'd like to have somebody who
- 34:55can focus their attention on the county, focus their attention on the issues of
- 35:00the voters, and allow the voters at the end of the day in November
- 35:04to determine who they want to be their next county commissioner and whoever that is.
- 35:07I'm sure that Commissioner Slango and I will be able to work with them.
- 35:09But again, let's not get political. This commission has never been political
- 35:14before. We're not going to do it today. I think Commissioner Slango agrees
- 35:17with me. But again, we're going to look at the list and if
- 35:20Natalie Tenant comes out to be the best pick, that's probably you know,
- 35:22that's what we might move forward with. But let's at least look at all
- 35:27the options. What what's wrong with that? And the applications have to be
- 35:29in by I guess close a business today or does it midnight tonight? How
- 35:31does that work? Said today? Close a business a business? So four
- 35:35thirty five they have to be if the email amen, they have to be.
- 35:38You know, email has to be received by that particular time. So
- 35:42the way it's going to work, as best I understand it is is that
- 35:45those will come in and you and Commissioner Selango will will meet and if you
- 35:47can't agree, because you both have to agree on it, and they have
- 35:51to be some you know, a Democrat and again from those districts that we
- 35:53mentioned. But if you if you cannot agree, then it goes to the
- 35:58Democratic Executive Committee and then they will send some names and almost he described it
- 36:02almost like a jury, like striking jurors. You'll have a list and either
- 36:07of you say, okay, I'm taking this one off your I'm taking this
- 36:09one off your list. That's the way. It may not come to that,
- 36:13but it could if you can't reach a decision early on. Let me
- 36:15say that is a moot conversation. Okay, Commissioners Lango and I will come
- 36:19to an agreement on Thursday. I have no intentions or even belief that him
- 36:23and I will not be able to work together on this. We have always
- 36:27worked together in the past, especially during my little over three years of being
- 36:30on the County Commission. I know he and I have the same agreements.
- 36:34We want to make sure we bring someone in that will work with us,
- 36:37be representative of the voters of Kannall County, the citizens of Kenannall County,
- 36:40and be able to do the job for seven months and then allow the voters
- 36:44the opportunity to pick who they would like to be their next county commissioner.
- 36:49This past week, and I had Selango on earlier talk about it too.
- 36:52This past Sunday, we had that horrific situation out at Shawnee Park with a
- 36:55shooting. Although it was on Smooth Avenue and Dunbar, it was two blocks
- 37:00away. We had some obviously some concerns about the security there simply because some
- 37:05of the people couldn't weren't able to get out. I know it's something the
- 37:07Commission's going to be taking a look at moving forward. Yeah, So,
- 37:12first off, a terrible situation, one that was gut wrenching when I got
- 37:15the call of what was happening. I think it was actually Commissioner Silanga who
- 37:19called me first to let me know, because he was already aware at that
- 37:22point. You know, this is his baby. The Shawnee Sports Complex has
- 37:25been wonderful for economic opportunity, but to have an event like that is absolutely
- 37:30scary, and we want to make sure that we're doing everything we can for
- 37:32people to just feel safe, not just be safe, but to feel safe
- 37:36as well. And you know, doesn't matter that it was two blocks away,
- 37:40four blocks away, those don't matter. It matters that parents were there
- 37:45with their kids and that they're they're traumatized, and that's not something we want.
- 37:51But let's look at the glass half full for a second day. Nobody
- 37:53was injured, nobody was hurt, nobody was severely hurt, and we need
- 37:58to remember that and just be thankful for that and be grateful that that's the
- 38:01opportunity. However, we also need to look at, well, how can
- 38:05we be better? And there's nothing wrong with a government agency saying, hey,
- 38:08how can we be better? That's what we want from our government.
- 38:10And so immediately we schedule a debrief with the emergency Management, the Sheriff's Office,
- 38:16Shawnee Sports Complex, the County Commission. We went over the footage,
- 38:21looked at what occurred, how we can be better, what we can do,
- 38:24and some of those suggestions have already made forward. We're already going to
- 38:28move forward with quotes from vendors, and one of those was just having a
- 38:31exit gate that has a pushbar that you can exit out of, but you
- 38:35can't come in. And I think that's important because we need people to be
- 38:38able to leave in an emergency, but we also don't want somebody coming in
- 38:43who's not supposed to be in for safety purposes. So looking at those measures
- 38:46and being better is what we're doing. And I can assure everyone that that's
- 38:51what we're going to do. We're going to be better, and we're going
- 38:53to make sure that something like this never happens again. It's unfortunate that it
- 38:58did, but to be optimistic about this and say, hey, we're going
- 39:01to make this safe again. And I look forward to those families being able
- 39:05to come back on Shawnee Sports Complex and being able to give a sigh of
- 39:09relief knowing that they're safe. Now. I think since the last time you
- 39:13were on the show, a little personal note here, you've added an addition
- 39:15to the Wheeler family. Is that right? Well, you know I've got
- 39:19my second daughter. I'm a girl dad four weeks old. Dave. When
- 39:22we walked in here, I told you I've got about four hours of sleep.
- 39:24So if I've mumbled any during this interview, I apologize to your listeners.
- 39:30But thank you very much. And it's a blessing. And you know
- 39:32having a kid makes you, especially a four week old, you know,
- 39:36when an incident like Shawnee comes in, it really hits you hard. It's
- 39:38different, you know, and you hate saying that to somebody who doesn't have
- 39:42a kid, but Dave, I mean, you know, it's different,
- 39:44and we take this seriously. It's just like if our kid was there.
- 39:47And I've got many calls from good friends of mine who they were there with
- 39:51their kids, and they said that, you know, they're scared, they're
- 39:53traumatized, and we take that seriously and we're going to do everything we can
- 39:58to get rid of that fear. Roome's not built in a day. It's
- 40:00going to take some time, but we've already made measures and moves and we're
- 40:06going to continue to do everything we possibly can, and I think that we're
- 40:08going to get to that. We will pulling cost of a day Island show
- 40:12on five any Live a service of Big Lea Pigley Wiggly on Spring Street,
- 40:15Texting services provided by your hometown family Pharmacy, Fruit Pharmacy. What else is
- 40:20keeping you busy other than the four week old? I mean, as far
- 40:22as the County Commission goes, what's keeping you busy these days? Well,
- 40:24you know, when you only have three to four hours of sleep at nights,
- 40:29you actually kind of wound up. You get that second wind, and
- 40:30you know, we've been just doing a lot of great things at the County
- 40:34Commission when it comes to tourism. You know, we're looking at getting our
- 40:36cv BE back up and running, being able to provide fundings and marketing to
- 40:39bring people here to Conall County. We've got the hat fil mcoy trails with
- 40:44the dirt bikes that I mentioned before out in Tornado. We're going to be
- 40:49looking at some new things as well, and some of those is for the
- 40:51kids. You know, at the end of the day, I think we
- 40:52need to realize that we need to do everything we can for our children and
- 40:57having that opportunity and especially having that out door experience. You know, I
- 41:00know my grandpa always told me you're going to go outside, you're going to
- 41:04go play. Well, sometimes you need a place to play. And one
- 41:07thing that I've noticed is that some of our parks and rec playgrounds are in
- 41:12bad shape and we need to get those fixed. So I think we're going
- 41:14to have those conversations looking at what we can do to have that opportunity over
- 41:19in Metalwood, over in Coonskin, over in Pounder Park in eastern Kenhall County,
- 41:22and seeing what we can do to put in some playgrounds in there,
- 41:24because you know, Dave, I go there with my two and a half
- 41:27year old. I take them to those playgrounds and I look at them and
- 41:30I see that they're in bad shape. But I see kids there. I
- 41:34see families there, handfuls, I mean plethora of kids still playing, and
- 41:38I think they deserve to have something nice. I think they deserve to have
- 41:40something that those parents can be proud of as taxpayers. So we're going to
- 41:45be putting a plan together. I'm calling it the Infrastructure Package for Playgrounds right
- 41:50here in Kennall County. I think it's an important doing and I think that
- 41:53a lot of people are going to be very supportive of it. And how
- 41:55can you say no to playgrounds? Especially when again, this isn't a playground,
- 42:01you know, a bridge to nowhere, right, a playground of nowhere
- 42:04where nobody's going to it. These playgrounds are being used. They're in bad
- 42:07shape. I've seen it firsthand as a parent, and I think that these
- 42:12playgrounds have been in this shape for all nearly thirty years. Now it's time
- 42:15for change. It's time to do something, and it's time to take responsibility.
- 42:20And I think this is what this County Commission's going to do. And
- 42:22so Thursday, not only are we going to be discussing the appointment of a
- 42:25new County Commissioner, but we're going to be discussing this package plan and seeing
- 42:29what we can do to make these playgrounds nice again. Goodall, County Commission

- 45:52Dave. Everyone needs reminded that Tenant was one of the Secretary of s TEA
- 45:57candidates back to the two thousand and eight elections by the Secretary of State Project,
- 46:00a liberal five to twenty seven group that spent almost two hundred eighty thousand
- 46:04dollars that cycle to elect progressive candidates that included George Soros among its donors.
- 46:08Their aim is to wrestle control of the country from the Republican Party by removing
- 46:12the political operatives from deciding who can vote in whose votes will count. She
- 46:16may want to be appointed to continue Carper's urn, but I say she can

- 46:28at various things, media moguls, head of HD, media candidate for Secretary
- 46:31of State. Now he is West Virginia's best known snake bite victim Doug scaff
- 46:37Doug, you're a freeman. You've been sprung from the hospital. Welcome to
- 46:39the show, Dave. Thanks for having me. Man, yeah, snake,
- 46:44charmer, whatever you want to call me. Man, I don't wish
- 46:45it on anybody. It's and I kid you because I can. It's been
- 46:51quite a journey though, Man. I'll tell you what, Man, I've
- 46:54been in I was in the hospital for seven days, seven days, and
- 46:58this is one of the pain. The pain is just excruciating. I can't
- 47:01describe it. I mean, I can't describe it. I'll tell you what.
- 47:04When it happened last week. You know, once people we get bet
- 47:08once, twice, whatever, three times in the same spot in your ankle,
- 47:13and I just didn't know how severe it was. And then I started
- 47:15watching this venom move up my leg from my ankle in the in the ambulance
- 47:20ride down in Boom County. I was in Danville. I just watched it,
- 47:22like almost like an oil spill move up my ankle started moving. It
- 47:28was real hot, and it looked like an oil spill taken over your leg
- 47:30inside all way up to my knee. And that's what I really started to
- 47:34get scared. I was like worried that this thing was going to keep going.
- 47:37And then they luckily they got me there in time. They put some
- 47:40medicine in me, but then they didn't put enough at first, and then
- 47:44we had to give me some more because they kept spreading all the way up
- 47:46to my all the way up to my hip. Well, obviously they released
- 47:50you from the hospital, but you're still not out of the woods yet.
- 47:52What's the treatment like now? Yeah? Literally, not out of the woods
- 47:54or out of the weeds. That's a good one date. It didn't meant
- 48:00I love you, buddy, No, it's a I tell you what.
- 48:02Here's the thing, here's the durnedess thing, the pain. I keep it
- 48:07propped up, and then when I put my foot down, and about eight
- 48:10seconds, it just rushes. Everything rushes to the infected area on my ankle
- 48:15and it just starts robbing. It feels like you got stung again by like
- 48:19a jellyfish or something. It starts stinging, start throbbing. My ankle swells
- 48:22up, my foot swells up, and it's just like your footfalls asleep for
- 48:27about two minutes and then it finally loosens up and then I can start moving
- 48:30it again. But every time I get up, that's what it does.
- 48:34And I've researched it in people all across the country and the state, and
- 48:37all of it been Facebook to me and whatever it's saying, and they were
- 48:39describing the same thing. They said, Yeah, I could go on for
- 48:43thirty forty five days. It's damned this thing. So what is the treatment
- 48:46now? I mean, what are they doing? I mean, I know
- 48:49you were home, but what I meant medication or what? Yeah, yeah,
- 48:52I'm on medication. It got infected. The bite area got infected,
- 48:57you know. So I'm on antibiotics, two different antibiotics that knocks you out
- 49:00every time I take them. I'm on a bunch of pain medicine, therapy,
- 49:04doing a little therapy, A want of therapy that taught me what to
- 49:06do on my own. Get up, move around as much as you can
- 49:08tolerate, move it when it gets stiff. Just power through it. They
- 49:12said, you just got to suck it up for an end and a half
- 49:14two minutes to get through the pain. And then it loosens up. It
- 49:16really does. It loosens up and then I can move it around. So
- 49:20it's just going to deal with the annoying part of being in inconvenience for you
- 49:24know, however long it takes well. Doug Man. You and I have
- 49:28been friends for a number of years, long before I started doing this radio
- 49:30show. I thought, some prayers are with you. We wish you the
- 49:32best, man. Thanks a lot. So I just I learned it.
- 49:36I think it was either you know those copper heads down in Boom County,
- 49:37Man, they're tough. They must have been either angry Democrats or angry Republicans
- 49:43that didn't like But my sign was playing, don't mess with don't mess with
- 49:45Southern West Virginian pal. All right, Doug, we'll talk to you soon.
- 49:49Man. Thanks a lot, Thanks Dave. Before we close out this
- 49:52morning, I do want to mention this this Sunday is May twenty sixth.
- 49:55Date may not mean so much to you, but it does for me.
- 50:00It was on May twenty sixth. It was a Tuesday in twenty twenty,
- 50:04the day after Memorial Day. That's the way it fell. That year.
- 50:06We were in the midst of COVID. We were trying to decide which of
- 50:09two horrible candidates we wanted to choose for President Biden or Trump. On that
- 50:13part's sound familiar. It was on that date, but I started doing this
- 50:16show. Danny Jones had done the show. Then he stopped, and I'll
- 50:22be honest with you, the show was kind of in limbo, and Joe
- 50:25Parsons and Dale Cooper gave me the keys and said the car is yours from
- 50:31From a political standpoint, I hear it all the time. The liberals say
- 50:35I'm too conservative and the conservatives sam too liberal, So I guess, Jeff
- 50:38I must be doing something right. I enjoy talking to the governors and senators
- 50:44and congressmen and women legislators from all over the state, all sorts of elected
- 50:47officials, mayors to councils, to judicial folks and county commissioners of like,
- 50:52and just normal folks with projects and people trying to do good things in their
- 50:58community. It's all part of the show, and I rarely, if ever
- 51:02turn anyone away because I think everyone has a voice and everyone should be heard.
- 51:10The show has been a success beyond my wildest dreams that ratings are great.
- 51:19The revenue is great, which makes the accounting department of the bosses upstairs
- 51:22happy. But I'm just generally having fun doing this show, and it's been
- 51:28four years. Effective Tuesday again, I'm sorry, Effective Sunday, It'll be
- 51:31four years since I started doing the show, and I hope to continue to
- 51:35do it for many years to come. So I just wanted to say thank
- 51:37you to all the producers and the news team, the sponsors, the guests,
- 51:43those who help book the guests, the sales team, engineering office staff,
- 51:46all great people that make it a pleasure to report to eleven eleven each
- 51:52day. But most of all, I want to say thank you to you,
- 51:55the listeners, because none of this matters without you. So I sincerely
- 52:04thank you. Thirty six years in the radio business. I'm doing my dream
- 52:07job right now and I hope to continue to do it for a long long
- 52:10time to come. So thank you. Thank you so much to all the
- 52:15folks that make it all possible. We're gonna take Memorial Day off. I
- 52:19will be back on Tuesday do the show. John Lovejoy from Fresh Air,
- 52:23one of our sponsor will be stopping Bifos. Douck Irwin from a program called
