- 0:00Hello everyone. Welcome to the Kenny Wallace
- 0:03Show, brought to you by Jags, the leader in high performance
- 0:07aftermarket car parts. Remember to go to jags.com.
- 0:14That's all folks. That was the last NASCAR week of
- 0:19the year weekend and what a weekend it was.
- 0:23There is so much to talk about. Look at The Herminator notes
- 0:27Galore. But let's get right to it.
- 0:30How about Ryan Blaney, 29 years old, wins the 2023 NASCAR Cup
- 0:38championship? Ryan Blaney is your 2023 NASCAR
- 0:44Cup champion. All right, Be honest, be honest.
- 0:50How many people besides Dale Earnhardt Junior?
- 0:54And boy, you got to give it a round of applause to Dale
- 0:56Junior. Dale Earnhardt, junior, way
- 0:59back, said Blaney's going to win it all.
- 1:02How in the hell did he know that?
- 1:04What did he know that we didn't know?
- 1:06Now listen, if we talk to Ryan Blaney right now, he's going to
- 1:11tell you that I yes, I'm. I'm breaking my on my patent, my
- 1:17back. Ryan Blaney's going to tell you
- 1:20when he ran like third or fourth in his very first Xfinity race
- 1:24at Richmond. Sweet Daddy was one of the first
- 1:28people do the car and to this day he says I I will never
- 1:31forget that Herman. So yes, I don't jump on the Ryan
- 1:37Blaney bandwagon. I was already on it.
- 1:42But I did not see Ryan Blaney making this type of comeback.
- 1:47And I got to tell you, the racer in me, the race car driver and
- 1:50the chassis man and the mechanic in me when they showed up at
- 1:56Martinsville, what I noticed in Ryan Blaney's car was forward
- 2:01grip man. They had some camera angles.
- 2:04Ryan Blaney's car going to one at Martinsville and all sudden
- 2:08just squirt up off turn 2, good forward drive.
- 2:12And I went, I think they found something and boy, it carried on
- 2:17to Phoenix. And Phoenix, you know, even
- 2:20though it's it's it's a momentum track.
- 2:22You got a row, you want to get in the gas.
- 2:24You want to stay in it? Yes you do.
- 2:26Because that corner down in one and two, it's wide, it's
- 2:29sweeping. You know, you want to lay down
- 2:34that gas quicker than anybody. So in my opinion and respond
- 2:38right here, if you're the crew chief for Ryan Blaney, I believe
- 2:42you know, besides great balance, getting in, not loose, getting
- 2:46in good corner speed, obviously not as good as Ross Chastain and
- 2:53that's another story in a minute.
- 2:55But Ryan Blaney and Penske, they found some really good forward
- 2:59drive. So congratulations to Ryan
- 3:02Blaney on the championship. I did not see him coming.
- 3:06I already gave Dale Earnhardt junior all the praise.
- 3:10Junior saw him coming. Junior wins that award.
- 3:15And look, I said that it was going to be Kyle Larson or it
- 3:19was going to be William Byron to win the championship.
- 3:23I'm not going to be hard on myself because really, none of
- 3:27us were right. We got to remember Ross Chastain
- 3:29won the race and we're going to talk about it in a minute.
- 3:32But let me kick my ass for a little bit.
- 3:36What are you doing, Herman? Can't you see I'm roughing
- 3:38myself up? What is that?
- 3:41Liar. Liar.
- 3:42When? What are you doing?
- 3:45Can't you see I'm kicking my. He's beating himself up.
- 3:49So I'll rough myself up for a little bit.
- 3:51I was wrong. But Buddy, I wasn't that wrong.
- 3:54Kyle Larson was there. William Byron dominated.
- 3:57So you know, it came down to who adjusted their car.
- 4:01And at the end, you know, it was Ryan Blaney.
- 4:05Finished second, won the championship.
- 4:07Congratulations to Kyle Larson. He ran really good.
- 4:11And of course William Byron runs really good.
- 4:15He finished his third in the points.
- 4:16And then C Bell, Christopher Bell.
- 4:19Christopher Bell breaks a right front breaker rotor.
- 4:22That is part failure. Although I know he's a little
- 4:25bummed out. Seat belt can be a piece that it
- 4:30was a part failure. The team is going to examine it.
- 4:33Why? Why did Christopher Bell's right
- 4:35front breaker rotor blow apart? It happens.
- 4:39It's called part failure when they settle.
- 4:41When they study metal, it's called metal eulogy or something
- 4:45like that. OK, guys at Penske don't laugh
- 4:48at me, but sometimes when you put metal together, there can be
- 4:51the little air pockets inside the metal.
- 4:54That's kind of like when you're looking at a diamond and and you
- 4:57can see in the diamond you can see the flaws.
- 4:59The little black metal will do that.
- 5:01So who knows? Christopher Bell said it was the
- 5:05first brake rotor he's ever blown apart in his life.
- 5:09And and I believe him and I don't think he's hard on brakes.
- 5:12I think it was a part failure. I think there was some bad metal
- 5:15there and it metal allergy and I think there was a little some
- 5:19air pockets in that that metal and blew that brake rotor apart.
- 5:24So Christopher Bell finished his fourth, but he was there, he did
- 5:27really good and yeah, I think that's it.
- 5:30All right, we will get to the controversy at hand.
- 5:35But first of all this was a really young group.
- 5:38Was this the youngest group in NASCAR history?
- 5:42The herminator's got it. Wrote down here.
- 5:44Let's start with oldest. We had Kyle Larson, 31 years
- 5:48old. Second Christopher Bell or no
- 5:51William Byron, 25. Hold on, Herman Jesus, Calm
- 5:56down. Let's start with the oldest to
- 5:58the youngest oldest. Kyle Larson, 31.
- 6:02Blaney. Second.
- 6:04Oldest, 29. Christopher Bell.
- 6:07Third oldest 28. William Byron.
- 6:09What a a little bitty baby, 25 years old that that's crazy. 25
- 6:17years old and almost won the Cup championship.
- 6:19So anyway, this was a really young group and if NASCAR does
- 6:23it right and believe me, I saw Steve O'Donnell like my post
- 6:29where I said you got to get these kids promoted.
- 6:34Steve O'Donnell, one of the most important men in NASCAR.
- 6:37He liked my post last week where I talk about, look, nobody knows
- 6:43these drivers. And if you heard Kevin Harvick
- 6:45after the after the race, he says we got rock stars.
- 6:49He kept going rock stars. Rock stars, tells me, tells me
- 6:55that NASCAR and all the TV executives heard the Herminator.
- 7:00Now it ain't about me, OK? I'm not saying, I'm not saying
- 7:04that hurt me. But I think it's quite a
- 7:06coincidence that I create a stink and say, all right guys,
- 7:10nobody knows your drivers, nobody knows them.
- 7:12And then all of a sudden Steve O'Donnell likes my post on
- 7:15Instagram. Don't take it down, Steve.
- 7:20And all of a sudden after the races all over Harvick, her a
- 7:25little birdie must have said something to Harvick because
- 7:27he's like we got rock stars, we got rock stars now and I say now
- 7:32promote them. And NASCAR came back in their
- 7:35State of the Union address and they said we are going to create
- 7:39a new center next to the NASCAR offices there in Concord, NC,
- 7:45and we're going to start doing videos and get these faces out
- 7:49there. So they hear me, they listen to
- 7:53me. I'm just saying that's the topic
- 7:57at hand. It's not important for me to
- 7:59keep patting myself on the back. But the herminator's been
- 8:03through it all. NASCAR hurt us.
- 8:05Promote these damn drivers. Get them out there.
- 8:07You got the youngest and Kevin Harvard says they're rock stars.
- 8:13I don't really think they're rock stars.
- 8:15I don't think they got to be controversial, but you got to
- 8:18get their face out there, OK? They are good people.
- 8:22I love Blaney. We nickname he needs to get a
- 8:24sponsor. Mountain man.
- 8:26He's he's a hairy dude ain't he? Ryan Blaney.
- 8:30He's Harry's all get out. He always get a sponsor.
- 8:34He probably got tired of shaving.
- 8:35He just let that old beard grow. But so, yeah, he needs to get a
- 8:39sponsor. Get him out there.
- 8:40Ryan Blaney, good guy. Everybody loves him.
- 8:43And I think we do got 4 great champions.
- 8:48So let's let's get them out there and let's make them the
- 8:50rock stars. All right, The controversy.
- 8:54What is the controversy? Oh my God.
- 8:58Ryan Blaney hit Ross Chastain in the rear, bumped him.
- 9:04That's all that happened. But it was pretty exciting
- 9:06because they run in about 120 mile an hour getting down into
- 9:10130 maybe a little faster getting down into, you know turn
- 9:13one there, I got it. Turn my brain around because the
- 9:17whole time I race now, you know turn one was always.
- 9:21It's kind of like Darlington. They changed these race tracks
- 9:23on US. Turn 1 used to be turn 3, but
- 9:28you know Blaney goes down into turn one now.
- 9:30Ryan Blaney, Now this is, you know, Charlie has been dropping
- 9:34these great press conferences right here.
- 9:38Ross Chastain says yeah, I heard him and I don't care.
- 9:42I love it. That's a great sound bite.
- 9:44That's what I'm talking about. A little bit of shit talking.
- 9:49Did you beat that out, Charlie? Anyway, that's what I'm talking
- 9:54about. Give some good quotes.
- 9:55Ross Chastain. The gift that keeps giving.
- 9:58I love it. He's no longer wrecking anybody
- 10:01because that didn't work out. But Ross, that's where it's at,
- 10:04let you know, Ross said. I took some air away from him in
- 10:08his press conference that you hear right here on the Kenny
- 10:11Wallace show in the press conference.
- 10:13Just scroll right through YouTube here you will see him,
- 10:16Ross, Ted said. Yeah, I made it hard on him
- 10:18because that's what I want to do.
- 10:20I want to lead laps. Leading laps is important.
- 10:23So Ross Chastain is like, I'm leading laps and yeah, I'm
- 10:26making it hard on him, but it was also a chance by Blamey.
- 10:30He hit him, you know, and not really, you know, Blamey did a
- 10:33good job because he could have ruined his car and taken away
- 10:37his championship race. But that was the controversy and
- 10:40I liked the barbing back and forth.
- 10:43That's good material for us to, you know, we call that water
- 10:46cooler talk. You know, back in the day you
- 10:49had a water cooler and you'd meet at the water cooler getting
- 10:52a little water for yourself at work.
- 10:55All all the jobs had a water cooler.
- 10:57Now, now, now we got our own little cup.
- 11:00But back in the day, you didn't have your own little cup.
- 11:03You went to the water cooler at your job, little plastic cup.
- 11:06You'd have three or four people gather around, then they'd say,
- 11:09what do you, what do you think about Blaney hitting Ross in the
- 11:12butt? And and so that's where the
- 11:14phrase water cooler talk came about.
- 11:17So that was awesome. Listen, my opinion, that was
- 11:22awesome. Because Blaney, Blaney had
- 11:23enough of him and Ross knew it. Ross knew he was dealing Blaney
- 11:28a fit. And so it was a hell of a show.
- 11:32Nobody's fault. No, nothing.
- 11:33Just just a hell of a show the show was after with the great
- 11:38quotes. And I love Ross going, yeah, I
- 11:41made it hard on them, and I don't care what he thinks.
- 11:43That's badass. All right, so that was pretty
- 11:47cool. Let's see where we're at.
- 11:48Let's wrap it up for Penske. OK, let's let's give you some
- 11:52stats that are pretty cool. Rodger Penske.
- 11:55Wow. Follow along with me here.
- 12:00This is the third NASCAR NASCAR Cup.
- 12:07I got to go all the way to the NTH degree.
- 12:10This is the third NASCAR Cup driver for Rodger Penske to win
- 12:17the Cup championship. Now you say, but there's four
- 12:20Cup championships. Well, Joey Logano won two of
- 12:23them, Brad Keselowski one the other and now Ryan Blaney.
- 12:27Now we all know that the captain has 44 championships, you know,
- 12:32with the Indy cars and throughout all the racing that
- 12:35he's been involved in. Rogers got race teams galore,
- 12:39whether they're over in Australia or, you know, Daytona
- 12:43Prototype. Whatever it is, Rodger Penske is
- 12:46the captain and that is drumroll.
- 12:50That is Rodger Penske's back-to-back Cup championship.
- 12:55So Penske got a lot of stats right here and and I really
- 12:59think Ryan Blaney going to be one of Rogers favorites because
- 13:05by Ryan winning the championship that makes it back-to-back cup
- 13:10championships for Penske. He's full of pride.
- 13:13I saw him on Victor Lane. Really, really do wish my
- 13:16brother could have, you know, got him a championship.
- 13:19Brother Rusty won Roger a lot of damn races.
- 13:22You know, I would venture to say that you know Rusty's 10 year
- 13:25win. Rusty won 10 races in one year.
- 13:28But just so just a little short on winning Rodger a
- 13:32championship. But anyway, Rodger Penske.
- 13:38What a man, what a, what a legend.
- 13:41Let me say this too. Blaming, you know, remember he
- 13:47was almost out. Remember he runs six at Vegas
- 13:50and they were going to take it away from him because of some
- 13:53little technicality and and they gave him his points back.
- 13:57That's how close this was. Blaney was almost out of the
- 14:02deal. And this leads me to this point
- 14:05right here, right? The car means so much nowadays.
- 14:10If the car does not go, then you will not go.
- 14:15I'm sorry. And the only reason I'm saying
- 14:19sorry is because we're still stuck in the old days a little
- 14:21bit. We want to thank the drivers,
- 14:23everything. But look at me, I always use
- 14:27myself as an example. Even Dale Junior said Damn Herm.
- 14:31I got in that Pennzoil car and I hauled ass QuickTime at
- 14:35Rockingham. Run second, top five all the
- 14:38time. You know, back in the day, these
- 14:41teams were built, they would, they would craft this car and
- 14:44this car would be faster than everybody else's car.
- 14:48Nowadays you're seeing these drivers, you know.
- 14:51Hey, listen, I'm going to admit it.
- 14:55Dale Earnhardt Junior is the best at looking at talent of
- 14:59anybody I'm given. I'm given Junior a trophy here,
- 15:04here, here. Trophy junior.
- 15:07Woo. He deserves that.
- 15:12By the way. Hold on.
- 15:16This is my first trophy ever. It's just a joke.
- 15:18We're having fun. We're having fun.
- 15:22OK, this was at TNT up there in Quincy, IL.
- 15:27OK, so Dale Junior gets a trophy Now, That was fun right there.
- 15:32We just having fun. Calm down, Herman showing us our
- 15:36trophies like he got her? No, we're having fun.
- 15:39I give Junior the the Ric Flair trophy because he saw talent
- 15:43better than anybody. But here's my point, Herman.
- 15:47Get to the damn point. All right, here's the point.
- 15:52Blaney and those boys made some adjustments couple races ago
- 15:57because I thought about halfway through the year Blaney was was
- 16:01not the man. So something happens, right?
- 16:05They and Blaney's the same driver, but now Rodger Penske
- 16:09says. I think he's matured a lot over
- 16:11the last two months. Two months.
- 16:14Damn. You going to narrow it down
- 16:16right there, Rodger? You're probably saying that
- 16:18because he's been winning. People are funny when you start
- 16:23winning. People want to say the driver is
- 16:28different, the drivers matured. You're wrong.
- 16:31Let me tell you what gives the driver confidence is when that
- 16:34damn race car goes and that car handles breaking news in the
- 16:37garage air. That's what it is.
- 16:39So, Roger, I love you and you're way better than me.
- 16:42Roger Penske is the man. But what makes the driver mature
- 16:45and what gives the driver confidence is when that car
- 16:49handles. So I'm saying that Team Penske.
- 16:53OK, Joey didn't find it, but I'm going to tell you one thing.
- 16:57That crew chief on Blame's car, he found it and it was forward
- 17:00drive and whatever you want to say.
- 17:02But that's what I see with my eyes.
- 17:04Respond right here if I'm wrong. But you know, I didn't have
- 17:08Blaney winning the championship. Oh yeah, I saw the momentum
- 17:11coming after Martinsville. Absolutely.
- 17:14I hell yeah, I saw the momentum coming.
- 17:16We all did. So the bottom line there is that
- 17:20Penske finds something. Blaney's faster.
- 17:24Hey, let me let me ask you this. Did you hear Rodger?
- 17:27Did did you hear Rodger Penske calming?
- 17:30Blame me down. Calm down, Ryan.
- 17:34He was mother. Everybody.
- 17:37He was chewing Ross's ass out. Ryan Blaney was mother.
- 17:41Everybody on the radio. Rodger Penske comes on early in
- 17:45the race there at Phoenix goes calm down.
- 17:48Ryan did respond right here. Did y'all hear that?
- 17:52I didn't hear it. I read it on Twitter.
- 17:54Old Larry Mack say I was kind of under the first.
- 17:57I was kind of one of the first guys on Twitter and in our TV
- 18:01meetings. I would say I saw it on Twitter
- 18:04and and I think, I think, oh, I think old Larry McReynolds got
- 18:09tired and he said, let me guess, you saw it on Twitter.
- 18:12I said Yep. So anyway they said on Twitter
- 18:16that old Ryan Blaney was mother in Ross Chastain.
- 18:19It was funny as all get out and and the you know, the boss, the
- 18:23captain, Penske says. I think he listened to me.
- 18:26I told him calm down, boy. So he had to run second to win
- 18:29the race because you know Ross wins it all.
- 18:32All right, this was a Ford sweep.
- 18:36Ford wins it all. Does that make you mad?
- 18:39Respond right here. Does that make you mad?
- 18:43Ford winning everything. Ford won it all.
- 18:47Won the Truck championship. Won the won the Xfinity
- 18:52championship. Cole Custer.
- 18:54By the way I do admit the truck race was a show.
- 19:00I agree with Tony Stewart. Scroll right here on YouTube.
- 19:03Look at Tony's comments on that truck race.
- 19:06Don't race like that. I listen.
- 19:09I I know Carson Hosevar is a lover and he's a good guy but
- 19:13goes into one. Bam.
- 19:14Goes around the corner, goes down the back straighter and
- 19:16goes, you know, going to take care off and whatever he done
- 19:21got passed clean. Carson, man, I I'm going to tell
- 19:26you, good thing it's the end of the year.
- 19:28Maybe everybody will forget during the winter but that truck
- 19:31race was God awful. But it was really good that
- 19:36Ford. I don't mean it was really good.
- 19:38I'm just saying what a what an accomplishment for Ford.
- 19:41They swept it all. They they dominated NASCAR.
- 19:44Now you're going to hear the automaker of the year was
- 19:46Chevrolet. Well, they always win the
- 19:49automaker of the year because I don't know why.
- 19:51Maybe they got the best teams, But Ford?
- 19:54Ford won it all. How's it go?
- 19:57Might have won the battle, but they lost the war.
- 20:00Chevrolet might have won the battle, but they lost the war.
- 20:03And that's what happened here. Ford won it all, won the Truck
- 20:06Championship, won the Xfinity championship, won the Cup
- 20:10championship. A lot of records broken here.
- 20:13Hang on with me now. Ross Chastain makes history.
- 20:19Ross Chastain makes history and and I'm sure if Charlie rolled
- 20:22through here right now, he would find it.
- 20:25I said that this would be the year and I don't know if
- 20:29Charlie's going to look too hard.
- 20:31I said that this would be the year that somebody finally wins
- 20:36the race that does not win the championship is not in the final
- 20:41four. It happens.
- 20:43Ross Chastain makes history and look at this.
- 20:47This was this was kind of showing up a little bit
- 20:50everywhere for a while. There are all these races.
- 20:53Zane Smith looks like he was going to win the Truck race and
- 20:57he was not in the championship. There were drivers in the
- 21:00Xfinity that, you know, we're close, but I think we're getting
- 21:05to where, you know, those four drivers are not always going to
- 21:09be the best. And I think we're closer.
- 21:13Listen, that's the way it plays out, OK, Blaney rolled on.
- 21:17They got hot at the right time. They got that chassis working.
- 21:20I still think Ryan Blaney drove the same, but I think that car
- 21:24handled better. All right.
- 21:28Last but not least, the great Kevin Harvick.
- 21:33We've already gone 21 minutes. I know you're on the way to
- 21:36work. Here's what I got Harvick.
- 21:41Listen to this stat. Kevin Harvick won his first Cup
- 21:46race and 21 years later he won another Cup race.
- 21:54Say that again, Herman. Say it again.
- 21:57Harvick won his first Cup race, right?
- 22:0321 years later, he wins his last Cup race.
- 22:07Now I'm going to find it right here.
- 22:10That is a big, big stat. Well, I guess I erased it.
- 22:15I'm bad at cleaning my phone up. I got too many, too many
- 22:18pictures in my phone. Here's the deal, Harvick,
- 22:23Harvick. Stats are mind blowing.
- 22:26They really are. He's done it all.
- 22:33Kevin Harvick going to the Fox TV booth.
- 22:37I think the reason you heard so much about Harvick on and on,
- 22:42it's on. It was it was almost like we get
- 22:45it. But I think the reason Harvick
- 22:49created such sadness is that kind of last of the Mohicans,
- 22:56right? Kind of last of the Indians.
- 23:00Harvick has done it all. I'm just looking for some more
- 23:03stats here on Harvick. I got all these damn pictures in
- 23:07here, but I think it's just simple to say Kevin Harvick,
- 23:09Kevin Harvick, stats are just off.
- 23:13Here it is right here. Listen to this, OK We're going
- 23:19to end the show like this. Kevin Harvick, what a man.
- 23:22Charlie, let's when we get through December let's let's put
