[rock music] Ah, hoy, hoy, hoy.
• 0:16
Welcome to Full Spectrum Cycling- Mm... this being show number 167, according to my very lengthy document. [laughs] Is there not one poster? I know, I'm looking. I'm looking. Huh? I didn't put anything on this week.
• 0:31
I'm sorry. Well, I d- yeah, I don't, didn't put a whole lot- I was busy... on either, but it- Oh, there we go. It- I did wanna know- Refreshed...
• 0:36
how many words or characters you can have in a Google Doc, because I, we're, like, a third of the way there and this thing's been going for- [laughs] Probably six... three years or something like that. I've f- I forget.
• 0:47
You- We can probably condense it and f- Y- You know, avoid some of the white space and increase- Yeah, you can actually do, like, you know, the word count thing and stuff- Yeah...
• 0:52
with it, and it's just like, wow, there's a lot of words on this thing. But- Words... we're, we're, like, a th- Not this week... a third of the way there. Not this week. No. It's very brief, this week.
• 1:00
No, yeah, it's pretty brief. 'Cause we rode bike and drank beers. Yes, yes. Uh, I did, I had some stuff and I've, m- the interwebs is not letting me bring it up right now, so. [laughs] Um, we're in, in the
• 1:15
podcast MKE studio, but we no longer have access to the bike shop Wi-Fi, so- Oh... it's way in the front of the building. Way. [laughs] Way up. Oh, way up. All the way up in the front. Way.
• 1:25
So we're kinda bandaging this thing together here with phones and things of that nature. Just for you people, you one lonely listener. So today, here in the studio this time is, is JK. I'm back, I'm back.
• 1:40
We'll talk about JK's trip in a little bit. Yeah, soaky, soaky. We got Tony. Hey. And, uh, also getting his Narvester massaged down in the shop is Sam D. Sam D. Thank you very much. Narvester.
• 1:53
We gotta talk about your Narvester in a little bit. 'Cause it's- That's a good thing to talk about. Yeah. It's sex in a bike shop. He was waxing poetic about it downstairs when we were pre-showing it down there.
• 2:02
It's like, "Save it." [laughs] So JK's back. JK, JK was on a trip last- It's mostly dried out... last time we did this. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 2:13
The, uh, Wednesday evening of, uh, last week, the entire state of Wisconsin was, like, coated in a rain- Yeah... event, and I was camping in it. [smacks lips] It, um- In a tent...
• 2:24
thick it, it's funny- And it's just, yeah. I was gonna call in. I actually had an alarm set to call in, but I don't know.
• 2:31
Well, it's funny because, you know, we didn't have a show beer 'cause you weren't here, so I decided to take a walk over to Amore and get us a, a four pack 'cause James was with us and he doesn't drink beer.
• 2:42
And I believe it was, uh, James and Sven who said, "Oh, yeah, it's not gonna rain anymore tonight." I had the wettest ride home- Yeah... of my life. That's right. So I'd like to take this moment, JK, will you help me?
• 2:55
[laughs] Well, if I could, uh- That was- I knew I w- I knew what I was in for, but I was like, whatever, it's one fucking night. I, I had a, I had a person walking warn me about a flood in the street.
• 3:08
[laughs] That's how bad it was, like- Wow... wet. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I had three inches of standing water on the side of my house. I could not believe it. I, I had to wait- And- I, I can believe it.
• 3:16
[laughs] I had to wait four hours for a lull so I could take wood out of a trunk and quickly build a f- A fire, yeah... freaking rager fire that would take the next rain event.
• 3:29
And, yeah, that was about as Boy Scout-y- Camping in Wisconsin... as I ever got on that one, man. [laughs] Camping in Wisconsin, you just never know. Where were you camping again? High Cliff.
• 3:36
Oh, I've heard that's- Well, I, did I s-... it is gorgeous... did I send you the video? 'Cause we got, we got affected here a little bit at the shop. Oh. Oh, man.
• 3:43
With the, with the water basically doing an Old Faithful impression out of the cracks in the floor. No. [laughs] Oh, it was spitting out of there.
• 3:50
It was, there's some- something broken in the, in the drainage system from the roof and it was... There was so much rain. It was, like, an inch and a half in probably- Yeah... a half an hour. It was a lot of rain.
• 3:59
And it, the, it, there was nowhere for it to go, [laughs] so it was just bubbling up through the floor. And every once in a while it would spit, like, you know, a foot and a half high. It was like bloop, bloop. Oh, shit.
• 4:09
And then, so we had to- That doesn't surprise me... we had to push some stuff out of the way again, but- That, that's both cool, but also like, damn it, again?
• 4:14
[laughs] Well, unfortunately the speakeasy has a really low spot, so we're not normally gonna get, like, flooded flooded. We may get water running down the floor every once in a while. Right. But it's,
• 4:25
fortunately, management here at this building was responsive this time, and we have a plan to just take it out of...
• 4:31
It, for some reason, well, the way they built old buildings, the rain goes directly into the, the s- sewer system. Deep sewer, yep. But that's not what we want anymore.
• 4:42
We want it to just go out the building and onto the ground outside. It's not a bad idea. They're build- they're building- But the c- the city doesn't want it to go in the sewer either.
• 4:49
Are they, yeah, they don't, they don't. So. Do they wanna r- do you wanna reclaim... Some of those guys are gonna reclaim it for water for- I'm going, oh, I- Well- You, you didn't hear, you didn't hear about- What?...
• 4:57
my phase four of this entire complex when I build a replica of the- Some Roman aquapacks?... Roman aqueducts? Oh. Ooh. And it goes from this building over into the, uh, the gardens- Okay... over there. Yes. All right.
• 5:08
Yeah, they could use it. I'm playing five-dimensional chess here, man. You guys are here on the base level, man.
• 5:14
[laughs] Let's start constructing because I don't wanna see any more rain coming up or water coming up through the floor. So, uh, what- Drainage. [laughs] I drink your milkshake. Man.
• 5:28
Ray Liotta wasn't in that movie, was he? No, no. Rest in peace. Rest in peace, Ray. Yeah. Ray, Ray, Ray. Always gonna be looking at the skies for helicopters. Yeah. [laughs] What? What? What? [laughs] Oh, man.
• 5:44
And you gotta stir the sauce, Paulie. You gotta, k- y- yeah. [laughs] Just gotta remember, just keep stirring the sauce. Don't worry about it. You know, I, I'm sorry- I have to get home, and now I have to stir the sauce.
• 5:52
Who's gonna stir the sauce? I have- Or Ryan? I have to slightly switch subjects to go to the crypto minute because I happened to see Matt Gates looking at- JK so longingly. What?
• 6:04
[laughs] And I, I find the, the Madison Craw, whatever his name is, the- Crawfish...
• 6:10
the North Carolina guy who posted, you know, "Let's go Brandon, Bitcoin's gonna go to the moon," because he bought a quarter million dollars worth of it, and of course it did, and then it bombed, so he sold and made all this money, and everyone else that invested in it didn't.
• 6:25
And I have to laugh because I know that everyone that invested in that is some sort of jackass anyway. [laughs] It's like, good, you all lost your money, you dicks. Oh, but- How'd you lose your money? Why short sell it?
• 6:35
You're supposed to be hold- I, I'd, I'd rather not, I'd rather not have Bitcoin if I lost all that money... holderlering your Bitcoin. [laughs] Don't sell your Bitcoin.
• 6:40
Well, I meant, I, I meant to sell some of my Cardano. Give some to me for something. Well, I know. It's not giving, I'm buying something, so- Well, sort of... so were they. So yeah. Send it, send it my way. Right, it is.
• 6:52
At the... It's gonna be the cheapest bike you ever bought until- Until Cardano goes through the roof... until it's not. [laughs] Cleo's worth it. Yeah, s- This is like an ever-evolving philosophy class.
• 7:04
It will be how, as it is until it isn't as it was. Oh, wait, I have to, I have to look 'cause I did, after Cleo- And I, yes, and one shall look... picked out which bike she wanted...
• 7:12
within, look deep within yourself, Clarice... she said any of them would be fine, but if she had her choice it would be Bass Boat. Well, we better make sure- And then-...
• 7:21
we got a picture of Bass Boat because it is quite the good, uh, powder-coat job on that bike. She, uh, she sent me a message, she's like, "Oh, wait, it's so good. Hey, wait, what kind of bike is Bass Boat?"
• 7:35
[laughs] My, my response was, "It has no type. It could be a 26-inch BMX just as easy as it could be a single track, urban jungle, or street ride, AKA commuter." I said, "I'll put fenders on it for you, too.
• 7:48
Get ready, the tires are super rare Holy Rollers, sinner." Sinner. [laughs] Yeah. You can't even get Holy Rollers right now, I don't think.
• 7:57
So yeah, she, I don't think she realizes how great a bike she's getting, but- Let's make sure she has a good lock on it. Yeah. Mm-hmm.
• 8:04
Someone's gonna eventually stop her, and they're gonna put two and two together and realize she's my kid. You just know it. One of our- Make, make sure you-... communal friends...
• 8:10
make sure you, uh, you, you do the, what's the website? Um. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Bike ID. Bicycle- Bicycle ID... dot org or something. Yeah. One of those places where you can post your- Most of my other, other than my ape-...
• 8:23
post your-... the rest of my Schlicks are on there, which is embarrassing to say because it means I own a lot of Schlicks... put your serial number and a picture of your bike. Yep.
• 8:30
Any mods you've done to it since you've posted the picture, you can list. Yes, oh- I've, you know, they've, they've found Milwaukee bikes out in Portland before so I, I- Or-... it, it works at least sometimes...
• 8:40
yeah, or the harassing of the social media landscape, which came up recently that it was, like, the six-year anniversary of the, uh, wheel set. Stolen? Getting ripped off. [laughs] Fuck that. I'm so mad.
• 8:51
I'm glad I am not on Facebook anymore. Oh, my God, I attacked the Faceplace world and their renewal- Two days after I got that fucking bike back, someone takes the wheels. Tony, Tony got wheels stolen. Mm-hmm.
• 9:02
I got mine back. Remember that one. But, but- JK got his stolen, but he got them back... oh, and I got mine back. No, I had just my wheels stolen. [laughs] They left the bike.
• 9:10
They dumped your- No, they left the bike, too. Yeah, they just stashed the wheels in the bush- Yeah... on the other side of the building...
• 9:14
then they real- yeah, they realized they couldn't do anything with the fucking wheels. 29 plus, what are you gonna put them on? With 135 hub front, 170 rear- Mm-hmm, no... what are you, there's no bike made that will...
• 9:24
Well, s- maybe some anyways, but yeah. No, they were found. They were found. Oh, yes. Oh, yes. I think that guy was- Mine have not... it was a redemption song kinda thing...
• 9:31
did you have anything to do with him losing an eye because he, he- No, he ended up with an eye lost... he, he somehow got- And that was nothing I had to do with it [laughs]... a slur to fucking guy.
• 9:39
[laughs] The guy has no eye anymore. A thief? Yeah. Yeah. So you know who this guy is? You see him? He was on camera at least. He hasn't been around for a while.
• 9:47
I haven't noticed him, but he was sort of a, a neighborhood- I'm just, everyone that-... nefariousness...
• 9:50
everything that I saw other people everybody else saw, and if everybody else knew them better or angrier-ly- Or angerlier... and wanted... There, man, there are people just looking, just wanting a fight. Yeah. You know?
• 10:06
Just going like- Yeah... "Just let me know. I just need to crack a skull," and it's like, eh, no, no, no. There's a, there's a fight club right downstairs.
• 10:12
[laughs] It's like, it's like, I appreciate, I appreciate it, but- Yeah, just go to the fight club... no, no, no, no, no, n- Yeah, yeah, exactly. Yeah, it's not for me. What the? Oh, JK's eyeballing.
• 10:21
[bell ringing] Well, I thought you were pointing to it. It's always my fault. I was gonna grab it. Mm-hmm. I mean, technically every time we're up here- 'Cause that's too far for Andy...
• 10:28
it is the top of the hill, so I mean- You're closest to the beer without going over. Top of the hill. [laughs] So today's top of the hill beer is courtesy of the f- 50%-off cart at, at our local Piggly Wiggly.
• 10:42
[laughs] Which it's- AKA the wobbly south... but it's, but it's Montucky Cold, Cold Snack Lager. It's not bad. Apparently the unofficial beer of Montana. It's the official unofficial beer.
• 10:53
So it says 8% right here and I thought, "Oh, my gosh, that's some hefty beer," but it's 8% back to local causes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. 'Cause it's only a 4.1 on the old alcohol scale. [laughs] Oh, that's way better.
• 11:03
All right, that's way better. Um, $2.78 for six 16-ouncers. Yeah, that's- Wow. That's running in the hams... wow. That's, that's, that's- Yeah, that's closing up on hams, man...
• 11:15
that's, you know, I mean- Hams is drinkable. It's definitely a, the- It's in the hams, hams or Montucky, whatever. I, y- you know- Pick your favorite... I think this is- It's fine.
• 11:22
I mean, hams isn't- Let me go for this over here... is hams a lager? I'll flop. Yeah, p- Pilsner, isn't it? I don't know. It's a pils. Yeah, that's- In a blind beer test you wouldn't know it... I think.
• 11:30
Or ale, excuse me. So this also says on the can, "Don't be a jerk." Right. Which is the River West 24 motto, basically. Yes, it is. Right?
• 11:39
So that's where I think, I thought- Well, I think we found our River West 24 beer for this year. Well, no, 'cause I- It's- Kind of burpy beer, though, if you ask me...
• 11:46
that's why I was saying before, I, I think, uh, Bilicki had- Yeah... something to do with, uh- He loved it... those... I don't know if he just loved the beer or just had, like, knew guys that were there at the brewery.
• 11:58
I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, I know he was working at Fink's, so- So where is the brewery? It's in- I don't know. And where is Bilicki? Apparently it's in Montana.
• 12:03
I haven't seen that guy for fucking years But why is it called- What?... Montana? I ran into Bobby Erica. Maybe it's in Kentucky. He's a little bigger now. Maybe. Maybe it's a hybrid. And they originally from Montana.
• 12:12
Well, we'll figure this out. Good guy. But it, it is the official- If he-... unofficial Bureaucracy... big old bastard. That's what I'm talking. As soon as he stops riding every day all day, oh, boy.
• 12:18
[laughs] I recommend, I recommend checking it out. It's, it's a drinkable- Bozeman, Montana. Oh, there you go. There you go. Oh. Bozeman's a good town. Bozeman. Bozeman.
• 12:26
Come out the north gate of Yellowstone and you're not that far away. Mm-hmm. Uh, Mr.- Ding, ding. Speaking of Yellowstone, Mr. Schlick was... I think he's still out there right now. Hmm. Oh.
• 12:35
Did a little Yellowstone trip with the old family, staying in West Yellowstone there. That's right, Boo Boo. Joy. Hey, Boo Boo, my boy. That's, uh, Jellystone. I'm sorry about that. Let's get the picnic basket.
• 12:46
[laughs] Let's, uh, let's get $100. Um- Any moderate listeners, no clue what we're talking about, but we understand that because we don't know any of those- I would like...
• 12:52
I- I'm curious what their- I'm gonna give this guy a drinking citation, Boo Boo. [laughs] I, I'd like to know what their experience is like. Maybe we should have them on the show sometime. But- Boo Boo?...
• 13:05
I'm curious what... No, the... going into Yellowstone these days- Oh, uh... 'cause the last time I was through there was- Oh, Mr. Schlick... 10 years ago or something. I was there two years ago. It was amazing.
• 13:13
It was my only time being there, but- Before pandemic or during? Yes. Right. Just before. Just, just before. Yeah. Yeah, actually, yeah, I think it was actually a year or so before, but, um, it was the fall time.
• 13:25
It wasn't too packed with people. It was really amazing. Yeah, I think your best bet is to stay away from it when basically anybody high school age or less is off school.
• 13:36
Yeah, that's pretty much- 'Cause I've, I've been going out- Wasn't there a story, a woman who got- Well, I've been going out there-... killed just by a bison recently?... recently. Yeah. Yeah. Wow. She, she did.
• 13:43
She got a little too close for a selfie. I think she got kilt. Well, she's cool. No, oh, did she? Got kilt, I believe. Oh, the one I read that she had a puncture wound, but maybe she's died since. I don't know.
• 13:52
They're nothing to mess with. You know, they're- I take photos of them- It's motherfucking nature... from like 200 feet away, dude. [laughs] I don't get anywhere near them. This is, you know- Stay in your car...
• 13:58
oh, buffalo bison burger- I-... when it's on menu, it's like the same thing. I'm like, "No, I just, I feel a little more superior every so often if I have a bison burger." Like, oh, sure.
• 14:07
When, when I was in Costa Rica- Because I do fear them... there was howler monkeys. I got all excited to, to get- [laughs] And I get to eat you-... pictures of them... while I fear you? Aha.
• 14:14
[laughs] Jumped out of the bed when I heard them howling, and I ran outside and got my camera all ready, and all of a sudden I hear something that's way, way too close to me. And I just start slowly stepping backwards.
• 14:28
I don't even take my camera down, and all of a sudden I hear this guy behind me. It's just like, "Gee, gee, gee, gee, gee, gee."
• 14:33
He's like taking like 100 pictures, and I, I drop my camera, and a mom and a baby on its back was like eight feet from me. It would've, it would've kilt me. [laughs] It would've just, it would've just eviscerated me.
• 14:46
I'm like- Yeah, you don't wanna be around them... and the dude was like, "You are so lucky." I'm like, "I know. I was so close." So he was trying to capture something for the newspaper- Right, right...
• 14:53
when he got mauled, right? Yeah. Jokes on him. His girlfriend got food poisoning that night. Oh, there you go. Just kidding. Yeah. Kar- karma, baby. During backtracking on my, uh, camping adventure, there was, uh...
• 15:05
When I finally got into the tent, there was a pack of very large, very, very large raccoons, like s- like small bear cub size and width 'cause they eat well up there. Mm-hmm.
• 15:20
[laughs] And they just tossed, they tossed the, the garbage thing. It was secure and tight and whatever, but man, the grunts and groans they make- Trying to get it. It's like- I mean, they sound like...
• 15:32
Dude, they sound like, like Appalachian carnies or something. [laughs] Like, you know what I mean? They're very almost human sounding. Good name. It's like, "" Appalachian carnies.
• 15:41
And it's like, dude, are these actually humans out here? And Kim's like, "I bet... I, I'm gonna go..." I, I'm like, "Shut the fuck up," 'cause all I'm thinking...
• 15:49
And maybe I'm watching too much X Files, but it, [laughs] it just was like... I'm like, "No, shut the fuck up right now," because I don't know what the hell's out there. [laughs] One, the city two.
• 15:58
Hmm, yeah, raccoons aren't something to mess with if you corner them, that's for sure. Well, yeah, but they were out there, and they had all the d- d- d- ding, ding. Right.
• 16:05
You know, it's like, it just sounded like two were just m- mauling this thing, and there was another fat one or something just in there going in the corner. [laughs] Barking out commands. Yeah.
• 16:16
[laughs] Little Jabba the Hutt and the minions. Take the, take the little short human. [laughs] Daniel was at a graduation party, so we are calling that one, uh, uh, metallic vagina Daniel.
• 16:28
[laughs] And so we gotta send the picture so people can see what it's like. We'll, we'll send to the podcast, you know. Yeah, it's, uh, crazy. It's, uh, you know, it's like, isn't that a great name for a band?
• 16:35
Metallic Vagina. Metallic Vagina. So we rode some bikes this week to- Yeah. To a Thirsty Fox. It was, it was actually a beautiful day for Tour, Tour de Towner. God, it was gorgeous.
• 16:48
Couldn't have been a better day probably. No. Unless today was, you know, pretty- Mild... well, Wednesday. Pretty all right. Uh, Tour de Towner this year, basically just we- Us... we went, and then we stopped.
• 17:03
Two people with electric bikes turned back after less than five miles. [laughs] I was...
• 17:06
[laughs] Okay, so, and I don't, I'm not sure whatever happened to the supposed bar tab at our turnaround bar, but- Well, that was, that was the Roves. Yeah. That was Roves being Roves. Well, it was supposed... Yeah.
• 17:14
So I thought, well- Well, he's like, "Yeah, first guy, you know, first one to Thirsty Fox gets a $20 bar tab." Thought, I thought for sure- And the couple-... the e-bikes would be the first ones there...
• 17:24
the couple that got there first, no tab. Go there, and like, "No idea what you're talking about." [laughs] It's like- [laughs] Well, to be fair, huh? And, and, well, and- That's funny. And, yeah, it is Roves.
• 17:36
I- it's like I can completely see him not doing that. He did buy a round before we left- Yep... at least, so. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Still, I thought the e-bi- Yeah...
• 17:45
so the e-bike didn't even m- make it halfway there, and we're talking, like, I think it was maybe not even 10 miles. Yeah, yeah. I think we were six miles in when we stopped to have a beer.
• 17:55
Yeah, so it was like another- Might have even been less than-... three miles to the bar or something. Yeah, yeah, we were that close. It's, it's basically a 20-mile round trip, give or take. Right. Yeah.
• 18:02
Between that and, and, uh, and going to the, the Swinging Door on, on Wednesday, I think I r- rode my bike more this week than- Any week of the year so far. [laughs] You didn't tell me you went to Swinging Door.
• 18:13
Oh, Swinging Door. JK and I went down there. Fuckers. Hot dog Wednesday. Dun, dun-da, dun, dun. Jewel's, Jewel's birthday- Jewel's birthday today... day. Oh, nice She's a cougar now.
• 18:24
Well- I mean, I can say it because she said it... to a, to a 25-year-old kid, yeah. Yeah. [laughs] She hit 40. Wait, who's Jewel? Jewel's, Jewel's Legear. The bartender? Yeah. Uh, waitress. Yeah. You know, it, it, yeah.
• 18:41
You know of who we speak. She turned the big 4-0. And she is serving at Swinging Door as of recently, [laughs] which I didn't realize until, like, about a month ago, which is funny. So I was like...
• 18:54
She's like, "I know you." [laughs] And I'm like, "Yeah, how you doing?" [laughs] What? You look so meek and mild. Meek and mild? It worked. What's that? Oh, you're trying to
• 19:11
m- m- motion him to get us [laughs] more beer. Oh. [clapping] I, you... This is something- Yeah. Yay... this is, this is semi-sessionable here because it's, uh, it's going down like water, I tell you, water.
• 19:22
Oh, uh, but speaking of, um, beers, I should probably let you know that I had a, an experience on Monday where I stopped at Black Husky and they have a new Elite Trails beer. What? Is it- Uh...
• 19:35
is it- Yeah, I'll have it... gaseous? Um, well, it, it... No more or less than any other beer they have, but, um,
• 19:42
what I thought was interesting is, uh, and I told Tim he has to come on the podcast again soon, so we should invite him.
• 19:47
But, um, I asked him what he thought about it and he kinda gave me a shoulder strug- shu- shrug, and he's like, "Yeah, it's okay." I'm like, "Well, can I try it?"
• 19:56
And I think he only thinks it's okay because it's not like punch-you-in-the-face, knock-you-down- No... roll-you-into-next-week strong. Uh-huh. Spruce? In other words, I loved it. [laughs] Yeah, it's not a spruce.
• 20:10
It's not a, it's not a spruce? And he openly admits- Oh my God... he either drinks a super heavy, strong beer, or he drinks a Ham's. Yep. I can see that. Well, Ham's is usually morning beer for him. It is.
• 20:21
That's lifting stones beer. Ah. The Battle at the Brewery is coming up, uh- Donald was there with his-... sometime towards the end of August or beginning of September.
• 20:28
That'd be a good time to have him on, just before the- Yeah... the Battle at the Brewery. So I can promote that. Hamilton. See the, to see the big thing. Oh. Yo, Hamilton. [laughs] Kai- kibosh the doobage there, brother.
• 20:41
Uh, we did, we did talk, uh, very briefly about Sam's Gnarvester earlier. Do you wanna- Mm... give us a little history of the Gnarvester? Well, uh- Car- It's a-... I guess I've had it for about eight years.
• 20:53
The very first year I had it, I did take it out to Moab and crushed a bunch of the pretty serious trails out there. And, uh- That's eight years old... using a 120 fork. Uh, the, the RockShox RS1- Yeah...
• 21:06
ooh, was a s- very fancy fork... which is an incredible fork. I mean, it, the way that thing steers and bounds down the trail, the kind of momentum you get on that bike, I, I just sometimes can't believe it.
• 21:17
I cannot believe it's been eight years. It's- Mm-hmm... it, it's pretty well set up. It's- I just threw that out there... it's ballpark, though. But if it's not eight, it's seven. It's right around there. Yeah.
• 21:25
It's a Carver Gnarvester- Time is a flat circle... 29 plus with RS1 and, uh- 38 tires... and Sarma Naran carbon- Oh, yeah, and that had-... plus wheels.
• 21:36
That was- I'm sure that has something to do with the fact that that helps... that was a good call back then. I don't, I didn't even know if you can get Sarma anymore. Can you? I'm glad I have an extra one.
• 21:43
Do they advertise on fatbike.com anymore? I don't know. Ooh. Let's see. Because I... That's what I'm running on my fatbike. I've got their- Yeah, you have the internets?...
• 21:50
80, 80 millimeter- What, the internets so far away? That was what, that was what initially impressed me with those- Oh, I've gone through the peone. I got the phone. Got the phone hotspot right here. Peone.
• 21:58
Ah, ah, ah, ah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's a hotspot. Oh, look at you go. Um, which I, I don't know that it's that great, um, because it seems to be kinda janky. I don't know. I don't know. These guys still around?
• 22:14
They were made in, uh, they were made over there in, uh, Russia. So if they- Yeah... were indeed still around- Oh... I don't think we'd be getting them right now, for sure. Well, probably not. Yeah. Uh...
• 22:22
I'll have to look that up later, but I, you know, so those things are, again, eight, eight or nine years old, one of those items. You'd guess that they're still doing great- I'm still marking them...
• 22:28
with him riding them. Yeah. Sam's not a, uh, gentle rider. I, I did break one. Oh, did you? But, uh, I was able to get two for the price of one somehow. They went down in price.
• 22:39
So I do have an extra one, so when it happens again, I'll be just set for a long time. How'd you break it? Um, you know, it, it, truly I was treating it like a fatbike, which I found out that time to not...
• 22:50
You know, basically I, I just was riding- Too low pressure... pretty hard over stuff over, with too low a pressure and, yeah, I deserve it. Because it, it- [laughs] Well, it's- We had a Copa, man. A Copa...
• 22:59
it, it's not a weak rim like a, like- No... like a Head is made for racing in the snow, and if you ride it like a mountain bike in the summer- It's gonna break... you're, you're asking for trouble. Yeah.
• 23:09
That's why I stick to the trails. If you hit an edge or something, um, they're light as hell, but they're also not made for bashing. Yeah. And I, I always thought the Sarmas were pretty strong.
• 23:18
Oh, I had bashed them quite a bit before that happened. [laughs] But once that happened- Tender, tenderized [laughs]... I decided I won't, like, let that happen again. Was it catastrophic? Uh, no.
• 23:27
I mean, I just- You just lost a tire?... I'd say I was with Gomez that day. [laughs] Mm. And, uh, you know, um, no, I didn't lose a tire. I literally just lost the rim. The rim just punctured a hole right in the rim.
• 23:38
Basically it just cracked the rim and just immediately let out the air, and I was out on Mir and I had to walk quite a bit. I had to walk about an hour. Not too bad. Could be a lot worse than that. Yeah, that...
• 23:49
I mean, out at Mir- Didn't crash... you could, you could walk an hour and only be two miles from somewhere. [laughs] Right. Yeah. You didn't crash hard to hurt yourself or anything like that. There's a whole lot of...
• 23:57
That could've turned out a whole lot worse than it did. Yeah, it wasn't out on the connector or anything like that. It was within the Mir proper blue lane, if you know that.
• 24:04
I don't, I, I think if a r- if a rim- There's nobody here. [laughs] Yeah, if a rim blows up- There's nobody here... normally you're gonna have something that's not gonna throw you on the ground too much.
• 24:12
[laughs] The, the, yeah, it maintains some integrity. Oh, it did. Yeah. I mean, I probably could have just rode it, but [laughs] With a flat tire? Yeah. Yeah, maybe. I- Maybe.
• 24:22
Flat tire- Well, it's already broken, it's like- So I had to go past my house that way... hey, you ever see those NASCAR guys when they blow something up? Yeah, right, right. Oh, they...
• 24:28
Driving this thing back on two wheels, well, come hell or high water. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. No, I've done [laughs] where it's just like, fuck it, I, I, mm... I know I have to... I know.
• 24:39
[laughs] I'm, I'm going to have to readdress all of this. [laughs] Ba-ba-ba-ba-bum, just fuck it. I did, uh, I- [laughs]... I did miss No Mow May by one day. Uh, me too. I just- I couldn't do it...
• 24:52
I, I couldn't get through the, the week of work without having to cut it I, I had Monday open- Yeah... I'm like, "Fuck it, I'm mow Monday." I took pictures. Oh. It was literally like- I, I had to-...
• 25:02
14 to 16 inches tall... I, um- [laughs] I had to go over each run three times. I haven't done that yet. I'm gonna do that again. Yeah.
• 25:09
I told Molly, I said, "Yeah, I got home, you know, I like, I did a three-run, and as I was leaving I literally saw dandelions like- [laughs] Yeah... like, "We're not down yet, bitch." Oh, yeah. Yeah.
• 25:20
And like popping right... I'm like, "Oh." They're still there. Yeah, they kinda hide. Yeah. Oh, yeah, they- They're pretty smart. I mean- They hear that- And I'm, I'm mulch level- They hear that-...
• 25:28
and they still don't get it... they hear that Whirly Bird coming... right, right? Oh, I put it as high as I could get my lawnmower. I started that way, but then I dropped it. All right. So I have- Oh...
• 25:35
an E- I have an Ego, uh- Yeah, you do... electric- Yeah, you have one hell of an Ego. Speaking of- [laughs] Did you try that out? [laughs] Ego, uh- Did you put some of this? [laughs]... lawnmower.
• 25:43
He has a- I didn't know that... I, I knew it was coming. Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na. I knew it was coming. But that thing mowed through that shit without even batting an eyelash. Wow.
• 25:50
Did you try the battery with that thing I found? I also trimmed my hedge. And it worked? Yeah. Oh, yeah. With the lawnmower battery on it, it's kinda heavy. You know- Oh. You're gonna wanna get- Oh, yeah...
• 25:58
one of the lighter batteries on there. [laughs] Yeah, I have no use for that, so. No, it's awesome. You can use it whenever you want. I think the thing'll run for a couple hours on a charge- Hm...
• 26:05
especially with the lawnmower battery. But I, it took me like 15 minutes- I was-... to do my hedges with it. It's like...
• 26:10
[mimicking lawnmower] I was cleaning up my, my yard at the new place, and I look in the corner of the fence and I'm like, "That looks like an Ego hedge trimmer." And I sent both my neighbors on both sides.
• 26:22
I'm like, "Is this yours?" They're like, "Nope." Like, hm, I know Greg's got a Ego. I might as well, like, bring it in the house and see if it works, so. That's awesome. Yeah, it didn't have a battery- Oh.
• 26:31
So I just- Yeah... popped a battery in and it didn't work. I'm like- Someone grabbed it out of the garage and-... "The hell is wrong with this thing?"... it came back, you know?
• 26:36
It's got a real fancy safety feature that you really have to slam the battery on there to make sure that it's all the way on- Mm-hmm... and blah, blah, blah, which none of my other Ego products have.
• 26:45
So I figured that out, and then, yeah, fuck. [mimicking lawnmower] Nice. Arcing. You have to figure out your own Ego. Edward, Edward Scissorhands kind of thing. Edward, yeah, Edward Hedge Trimmerhands.
• 26:54
[laughs] I mean, I'm catching, I'm catching the leitmotif. Yeah. Yeah. Hm. That's cool. That's exciting. I'm, uh, well- Stroking beard. You know how we like electric things here.
• 27:03
Well, and you know, I like the fact that we live in manageable properties that we can get away with- Oh, yeah... using electric devices on things- For sure...
• 27:11
whereas, you know, my friend who's got a 45 mile an hour lawnmower because he's gotta cut 26 acres of grass- 26 acres... because for some reason he has 26 acres of grass. I'm like, "Why?" Why? Mm-hmm. Yeah.
• 27:26
Go- a disc golf course. Oh, you just have to have a disc golf course- It's actually a legit, he's-... on your property? He, he's like, he wanted a mature grove- Well, it is the thing to do with a back- Yeah...
• 27:34
a big backyard. [laughs] Not Barry. [laughs] I'm like, what? No, no, another friend of mine, Steven. Ah. So there's suppos- well, the boy, my son, Garrett. Hey, Garrett. What's up, dude? Hey.
• 27:47
He's got, yeah, dude, he's- He is, after some sort of delay, is getting confirmed on Sunday, which isn't strictly my thing- Mm-hmm... but I'm gonna go support him in that thing.
• 27:58
Otherwise- Oh, he gets a, he gets a new-... I believe that Steven, our first-... middle name. Does he? Yeah, you get a, a new middle name. No. No, you don't. Lutheran confirmation, not Catholic. Yeah, not Catholic. Oh.
• 28:08
Or Chris- or whatever the hell you- It's a different word for the Catholics, I think. No, you do get an extra name- Ha ha... if you get confirmed as a Catholic. I got an extra middle name.
• 28:16
I don't, because I said, "No, not doing that." [laughs] Yeah. So, uh, i- if you're, if you're not going to my son's confirmation, then, um- [laughs] I send gifts too...
• 28:25
yeah, Ste- right, he's at the care of Garrett at my house. He has Venmo. Uh, Steven, our erstwhile mechanic downstairs there is, I believe, is doing a, a overnight up to Harrington. Oh, nice.
• 28:36
And I don't know if that's Friday to Saturday or Saturday to Sunday or Sunday to Monday. I don't know any of this. I'm gonna guess, though, that it's Sunday to Monday- Hm...
• 28:44
because Saturday is a bike shop day, and they're closed on Mondays. There you go. That makes sense. But check out Truly Spoken over there on Booth Street. Give them a shout if you wanna go. It's like a 35-miler.
• 28:54
Eh- Hm... somewhere in there. It's a good ride. We were halfway there when we were at the thir- well, a third of the way there when we were at the th- third of the way, Steve- So then the third-... Steve Fox...
• 29:02
the Thirsty Fox, and then, uh- Looking for our $20, uh, bar tab. Yeah. Then like three beers and a Lloyd and fi- like three more shots of Bulleit. Oh, yeah, I forgot he had the Bulleit.
• 29:13
Oh, he had that really good Bulleit. I forgot about that. Yeah, that wa- That was delicious... that was kind of a, a knee- Thanks, Lloyd... that was a knee-capper. That kinda was a- Thanks, Lloyd. That was good...
• 29:20
it was like, oh man, hey, well, the music starts at 3:00. Well, we left at 10:00. We probably should get back by 3:00. [laughs] Still gotta go by the waterfall. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. All right, everybody.
• 29:34
But- Thanks for joining us. Thanks, Sam, for sitting in, and, uh- Always a pleasure... and JK for returning from your harrowing journey, and- Moist... Tony for the big stack of 20s. Moist. All right.
• 29:44
And me for a bass boat. Yep, all right. Never mind ours. Next week, likely we'll be here again. More.
• 29:53
