- 0:05Speaker 1: You couldn't have made the check Grand Prix up. Let's
- 0:09Speaker 1: just recap the three biggest things that came out from that.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Marco Bazegi discovered this weekend that MotoGP's real book does
- 0:16Speaker 1: in fact have a please don't slap people section.
- 0:19Speaker 2: I agree.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Spent the weekend reminding everyone that the future of MotoGP
- 0:22Speaker 1: isn't artificial intelligence. It's just I and I agree with Peco.
- 0:26Speaker 1: I never want to play poker with Mark Marquez because
- 0:29Speaker 1: we clearly have some trust issues with.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Mark going on right now.
- 0:33Speaker 1: But welcome back to Bittok, where we're gonna try and
- 0:35Speaker 1: make sense for whatever that weekend was at Bruno, and
- 0:39Speaker 1: we're going to look ahead to this weekend at Asen
- 0:41Speaker 1: because we love a double header.
- 0:42Speaker 2: We love back to backs. This episode is brought to
- 0:44Speaker 2: you by Shunnon's Insurance.
- 0:45Speaker 1: I'm your host, Rinita Vanmullen, and joining me is Matt Clayton,
- 0:49Speaker 1: a man who's job description somehow now includes explaining why
- 0:52Speaker 1: MOTORGIP writers should keep their hands to themselves. Matt, you
- 0:56Speaker 1: had an interesting a few storylines that you got to
- 0:59Speaker 1: write about this week weekend.
- 1:01Speaker 3: I did.
- 1:01Speaker 4: There were several words in things that I wrote this
- 1:04Speaker 4: weekend that I don't think I've ever written before in
- 1:06Speaker 4: Murder GP content, and quite frankly, I hope to not
- 1:08Speaker 4: have to write them again, Like you know, looking at
- 1:10Speaker 4: the was it a slap, was it a strike, was
- 1:13Speaker 4: it a push?
- 1:13Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:14Speaker 4: Like having to decipher all of these things for crash
- 1:16Speaker 4: writers in gravel Traps was not part of any Murder
- 1:19Speaker 4: GP writer's job description, but that's where we found ourselves
- 1:22Speaker 4: on Saturday, and it was just as you said, it
- 1:25Speaker 4: was just one noteworthy thing from a weekend that I
- 1:28Speaker 4: guess if you look back in the results in years
- 1:31Speaker 4: to come, you'll go, oh, this was kind of a
- 1:32Speaker 4: run of the mill weekend. The front guys were the
- 1:34Speaker 4: front guys in both races, but it's much more nuanced
- 1:37Speaker 4: than that, and all of a sudden, and it is
- 1:40Speaker 4: all of a sudden, It's happened so rapidly. We've got
- 1:43Speaker 4: a completely changed championship picture right now, and that's not
- 1:46Speaker 4: something I expected to be saying.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Was still more than half the season to go.
- 1:50Speaker 1: I'm really glad you brought that up, because that was
- 1:52Speaker 1: one of the first things that I instantly thought of
- 1:54Speaker 1: with the whole Maco Bezeki Band from Sunday's Grand Prix
- 1:58Speaker 1: was is this the we're going to look back on
- 2:01Speaker 1: at the end of the season or whenever that championship
- 2:03Speaker 1: decided comes down to it and go because the adrenaline,
- 2:08Speaker 1: the heat, everything got in the way in that moment
- 2:10Speaker 1: for Marco call it what you want.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Is this the moment that that.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Macro did throw away the championship? Because as much as
- 2:18Speaker 1: like I joked about it in the intro, mark Is
- 2:21Speaker 1: keeps saying his shoulders messed up. But I said to
- 2:23Speaker 1: you guys in the group chat, how can you climb
- 2:25Speaker 1: a fence with a messed up shoulder?
- 2:27Speaker 2: Is he really is he?
- 2:28Speaker 1: Is he really playing on these cards now or is
- 2:31Speaker 1: that comeback on its way?
- 2:33Speaker 4: I still I think the scary thing for everyone else
- 2:35Speaker 4: here is that he clearly isn't physically right now. What
- 2:39Speaker 4: percentage he's right is up for debate.
- 2:41Speaker 3: He will play that down.
- 2:42Speaker 4: It's probably closer to it's closer to one hundred that
- 2:46Speaker 4: it is sixty, But it's not ninety, if that makes sense.
- 2:48Speaker 4: Like he's still got a lot of room for physical improvement.
- 2:50Speaker 4: And you can sort of see this, you know. He
- 2:53Speaker 4: admitted that he came back at Migello to be ready
- 2:55Speaker 4: for balot On Park because he knew that was a
- 2:57Speaker 4: circuit that turned left and he could make a lot
- 3:00Speaker 4: of ground that particular weekend. Expecting him to make the
- 3:03Speaker 4: ground that he has over these past two Grand Prix,
- 3:05Speaker 4: I don't think anyone saw that coming. But he's trying
- 3:08Speaker 4: to get to the summer break now, and you can
- 3:10Speaker 4: see that there's two more rounds to go, and one
- 3:11Speaker 4: of them happens to be the Saxon Ring, and if
- 3:13Speaker 4: Mark Marquez is upright and on a motorcycle at the
- 3:15Speaker 4: Saxon Ring, we know what happens. So he's trying to
- 3:19Speaker 4: get himself to the summer break. But even in his
- 3:21Speaker 4: most optimistic moments, so I don't think you could have
- 3:24Speaker 4: expected him to have been He's taken sixty two points
- 3:27Speaker 4: out of Marco Berzeki at two weekends, which is absolutely crazy.
- 3:31Speaker 4: And I think the thing for me the fact that
- 3:32Speaker 4: he's only forty points off the series lead. Now, yeah,
- 3:35Speaker 4: it was one hundred and two after Magello, and it
- 3:38Speaker 4: wouldn't have surprised me if he did get the deficit
- 3:41Speaker 4: back to forty points at some point, but I thought
- 3:43Speaker 4: that might be with you know, four or five races left,
- 3:45Speaker 4: because the one thing we've seen with Buzeki this year
- 3:47Speaker 4: until recently, yes, the Saturday has a been a bit blur.
- 3:50Speaker 4: And we'll talk about Saturday in a minute. He's just
- 3:52Speaker 4: been so good on Sundays that it felt like it
- 3:55Speaker 4: was going to be really, really difficult for Mark to
- 3:57Speaker 4: take massive chunks of points out of him in a
- 3:59Speaker 4: short space of time. Time, and so you have the
- 4:01Speaker 4: term one accident at ballot On Park, which of course
- 4:03Speaker 4: irony of iron is caused by his own teammate, and
- 4:06Speaker 4: that takes a whole bunch of people out of the equation.
- 4:09Speaker 4: And then a weekend like Bruno and that, you know,
- 4:11Speaker 4: I wrote in the lead up to Bruno that if
- 4:13Speaker 4: you look at Marcuz's history there, it's not a great
- 4:15Speaker 4: surprise that he's very strong, because his record by itself
- 4:19Speaker 4: dwarfed every other writers combined in the top ten of Bruno.
- 4:22Speaker 4: And that's just testament to his longevity and just how
- 4:25Speaker 4: good he is there. But I don't think we expected
- 4:28Speaker 4: to see a weekend this dominant, And I guess the
- 4:31Speaker 4: question we don't know now is that had Bozeki have
- 4:34Speaker 4: been in that race on the weekend. On Sunday, where
- 4:37Speaker 4: would he have been? Was he in the fight for
- 4:39Speaker 4: the podium? I don't think so, because i Agura had
- 4:42Speaker 4: a level that none of the Aprilia guys did the
- 4:44Speaker 4: entire weekend, So he might have finished fifth or sixth
- 4:48Speaker 4: or something along those lines to mitigate some of the
- 4:50Speaker 4: points damage. But man, forty points off the championship lead
- 4:54Speaker 4: with thirteen rounds to go, it's we've just got here
- 4:57Speaker 4: so fast. I think that's the thing that just surprises
- 4:59Speaker 4: me so much.
- 5:02Speaker 2: The points lead.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Yeah, Mark is there, but if you look at the
- 5:04Speaker 1: standings as well, I agree is not that far behind.
- 5:07Speaker 3: Mark either, which is I mean.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Exactly like you know, we keep talking about Mark.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Yeah, he's probably the writer to be more consistent over
- 5:18Speaker 1: the upcoming races.
- 5:20Speaker 2: But when you look at the points.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Gaps in between, there's writers that that aren't that far off,
- 5:24Speaker 1: and it's going okay, if Marco isn't in the right headspace,
- 5:29Speaker 1: if little accents like this are happening now, those cracks
- 5:32Speaker 1: are starting to appear. He needs to get on top
- 5:35Speaker 1: of that now because this is, like we said, could
- 5:37Speaker 1: be that definition point turning. But also juegem Martin's right there.
- 5:41Speaker 1: We've got those perhaps, but we've also got those news
- 5:44Speaker 1: announcements that's coming out, so everything's starting to change. I
- 5:47Speaker 1: think that's going to start playing on everyone's mental side
- 5:51Speaker 1: as well in this championship.
- 5:53Speaker 4: Yeah, completely agree. There's two battles to be fought here.
- 5:55Speaker 4: There's one on the bike and there's one between the years.
- 5:57Speaker 4: And it's one of those things that with some like
- 6:00Speaker 4: Mark like he's been there and he's done that. He
- 6:03Speaker 4: knows what's required and as experienced as Bozek years now,
- 6:08Speaker 4: and he's not exactly jumping at shadows. But it's different
- 6:11Speaker 4: when you haven't walked the walk.
- 6:12Speaker 3: It's different.
- 6:12Speaker 4: Right, Buzeki's experiencing this position of being a championship leader
- 6:15Speaker 4: and the guy that everyone's chasing for the first time,
- 6:18Speaker 4: and whether that played any sort of a role in
- 6:21Speaker 4: how he reacted on Saturday with the incident with the sprint,
- 6:24Speaker 4: I don't know, but this is I was going to
- 6:26Speaker 4: turn this around for a second ask you a question
- 6:27Speaker 4: because you were there and you were in.
- 6:29Speaker 3: That press center.
- 6:30Speaker 4: The vision of Bozeki slapping the marshal came out quite
- 6:33Speaker 4: a long time after the sprint, and what was interesting
- 6:36Speaker 4: was that I got the sense that everyone was like,
- 6:39Speaker 4: oh wow, look at this. But from your point of view,
- 6:42Speaker 4: you're in that press room, you're with everybody else. There
- 6:45Speaker 4: was the general sentiment that the band that he got
- 6:48Speaker 4: was appropriate or was it too harsh or what was
- 6:50Speaker 4: the feeling in there? Because I have my own thoughts
- 6:52Speaker 4: on this, but also I'm not on the ground, so
- 6:54Speaker 4: I'm just curious to see what it was like being
- 6:56Speaker 4: in the room.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Yeah, it was definitely a mixed bag.
- 6:59Speaker 1: You know, straight away people are going really his banned
- 7:03Speaker 1: because there was you could see like because where the
- 7:07Speaker 1: media center is located, race directions really close by, so
- 7:11Speaker 1: you could see everybody from Aprilia coming and going laptops
- 7:14Speaker 1: bring boarded like when we're finding out after you know,
- 7:18Speaker 1: their bike was still running.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Guy revved it.
- 7:20Speaker 1: That's really easy for the bike, so then you know,
- 7:22Speaker 1: blow an engine and I think the back wheel might
- 7:25Speaker 1: have been spinning, so you know, it could have been
- 7:27Speaker 1: he was scared about the bike still being a gear
- 7:29Speaker 1: and obviously if grabs a handful.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Of thing, it could cause more jammage. Like there's all
- 7:33Speaker 2: this stuff that was happening.
- 7:35Speaker 1: But straight away that that news announcement came out as
- 7:38Speaker 1: probably about eight pm local.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Timing in Bruno.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Yes, and it was like, oh wow, this is happening.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Oh wow, that's that's the result. Okay. Then we start
- 7:49Speaker 1: seeing the footage and you're kind of going, yeah, it
- 7:53Speaker 1: wasn't the right thing, Like, yeah, you don't go and slap,
- 7:56Speaker 1: but we've seen slaps before. I eat Elation Morbidelli, right, like,
- 8:00Speaker 1: you know, it's not that uncommon to see his lap,
- 8:03Speaker 1: but to get a race band for it is wow. Okay,
- 8:07Speaker 1: and everyone like after started you know, really watching the
- 8:11Speaker 1: video dissecting it, going, okay, the first lap, you made
- 8:14Speaker 1: your point, the second slap, but I think that what
- 8:17Speaker 1: crossed the line, right complete.
- 8:19Speaker 4: Yes, exactly what I was going to say. I think
- 8:21Speaker 4: if it had just been if if if it had
- 8:24Speaker 4: stopped at one. As much as that's not great, I
- 8:27Speaker 4: reckon he probably gets away with a fine or some
- 8:29Speaker 4: sort of awarding or something. The fact that there was
- 8:32Speaker 4: a gap between the first one and the second one
- 8:34Speaker 4: and he thought enough to do it again, I think
- 8:37Speaker 4: that was what tipped it over the line. Now, the
- 8:39Speaker 4: incident in and of itself that you know, there's mitigating circumstances.
- 8:42Speaker 4: As you said, the bike is still running all these
- 8:43Speaker 4: sorts of things. I more looked at it from the
- 8:46Speaker 4: perspective of, so what would happen if they didn't give
- 8:49Speaker 4: him a race band or he got sort of, you know,
- 8:51Speaker 4: hit with a bit of a feather on this, there's
- 8:53Speaker 4: a really dangerous precedent that gets set with things like this.
- 8:57Speaker 4: And you mentioned the Morbidelli Elisia spago on which was
- 9:01Speaker 4: quitar in twenty three. Off the top of my head,
- 9:05Speaker 4: there's a slight point of difference there because there are
- 9:07Speaker 4: two competitors on a track and you're you're not interacting
- 9:11Speaker 4: physically with an official, be at a track marshal or
- 9:14Speaker 4: a steward or anybody else. And I think there is
- 9:17Speaker 4: a precedent element to this here. I mean, hand on heart.
- 9:19Speaker 4: Bozeki's flustered, he's annoyed with himself, He's thinking about a
- 9:23Speaker 4: million things, and he sees the fact that his bike
- 9:25Speaker 4: could be about to be damaged. And no one's going
- 9:27Speaker 4: to have great clarity of thought. Any rider is not
- 9:29Speaker 4: going to have great clarity of thought. You've just fallen
- 9:31Speaker 4: off a motorcycle at one hundred and seventy k's an hour.
- 9:33Speaker 4: You're not going to be thinking super straight but I
- 9:35Speaker 4: more thought that there has to be a precedent set here,
- 9:39Speaker 4: which is probably a little bit unjust for Bozeki in
- 9:41Speaker 4: this particular case. But now there's no gray area with this.
- 9:44Speaker 4: If anyone else in Moto three Motor GP in the future,
- 9:47Speaker 4: if this happens and you might be annoyed with a
- 9:50Speaker 4: track side marshal or anybody a rival or anything else,
- 9:53Speaker 4: you are going to think twice about how you respond
- 9:56Speaker 4: to this. It's just going to be in your subconscious
- 9:58Speaker 4: because now we know what the penalty is for this.
- 10:00Speaker 4: There's no gray area here, and so I think for
- 10:03Speaker 4: what it might mean for the future and perhaps de
- 10:05Speaker 4: escalating some of these situations if they come up in
- 10:07Speaker 4: the future. Yes, super tough of Bozeki on Sunday, and
- 10:10Speaker 4: then the fact that Marquez goes and wins the Grand
- 10:12Speaker 4: Prix just twists a knife even further. But there's more
- 10:15Speaker 4: a long play with this, right because if he was
- 10:17Speaker 4: deemed to have gotten away, you know, you said any
- 10:20Speaker 4: air quotes with a lesser sanction for something like this.
- 10:23Speaker 4: Then you add this layer of you know, something happens
- 10:26Speaker 4: in the future and someone will say, well, was it
- 10:27Speaker 4: worse than the Berzeki thing. I think it was only
- 10:29Speaker 4: seventy five percent as bad as the Bozeki thing. You
- 10:32Speaker 4: open the potential for nuance and context here. Yeah, it's
- 10:36Speaker 4: a harsh penalty, but I think there's absolutely no ambiguity
- 10:39Speaker 4: now and that if something like this happens in the future,
- 10:41Speaker 4: we know what the outcome's going to be and consistent
- 10:44Speaker 4: outcomes of good outcomes in my book, So yeah, it might.
- 10:47Speaker 3: Be harsh, but it's harsh for everybody.
- 10:50Speaker 1: The other talking point that came from this was are
- 10:53Speaker 1: the marshals being trained enough to know what to do
- 10:55Speaker 1: in these situations? You know, Yeah, the marshal, if he's
- 10:59Speaker 1: under standing a bike, he knew that he was grabbing
- 11:02Speaker 1: a throttle, like you can hear the bikes running like
- 11:05Speaker 1: they only have like small earplugs in, not a helmet
- 11:07Speaker 1: and everything like that. So okay, obviously in that moment,
- 11:11Speaker 1: their first point of calls make sure everyone's say if
- 11:13Speaker 1: the rider's say, remove it just in case.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Blah blah blah. We know all that.
- 11:16Speaker 1: But the marshals trained enough to know also what to
- 11:19Speaker 1: do and how to maneuver amotor GP bike, Amoto two
- 11:22Speaker 1: bike and A'moto three bike in these situations.
- 11:25Speaker 2: That was the other question that came out.
- 11:26Speaker 1: I thought it was quite interesting because most of these
- 11:28Speaker 1: are all they are, they're all volunteers.
- 11:30Speaker 2: So the case of.
- 11:33Speaker 1: M seig, you know, putting a bit of time and
- 11:35Speaker 1: training in before these marshals come in to help these
- 11:38Speaker 1: riders because everybody's life's on the line then well.
- 11:41Speaker 4: And also in a situation like this, like you can
- 11:44Speaker 4: you can situation plan for as many things as you like.
- 11:46Speaker 4: You can't cover every possible situation here, and we've seen
- 11:49Speaker 4: some pretty wild stuff in the past few rounds. I'm
- 11:52Speaker 4: thinking back to the Jones Zarco crashing turn one in
- 11:56Speaker 4: Casalunia when his legs stuck between the back of the bike,
- 11:58Speaker 4: between the seat and the tire of Manyays Ducatti. Obviously,
- 12:02Speaker 4: the Alex Marquez accident and what happened in the aftermath
- 12:05Speaker 4: of that with bits of bike flying all over the place.
- 12:07Speaker 4: We've seen some fairly crazy things over the past few rounds.
- 12:09Speaker 4: So you can't you can't plan for every eventuality, right,
- 12:13Speaker 4: There's got to be some degree of will do the
- 12:15Speaker 4: best we can with the situation that we have. But
- 12:17Speaker 4: the point you made there is that can the marshals
- 12:20Speaker 4: be better prepared? Yeah, of course, but I also think
- 12:22Speaker 4: it's one of those things that to apportion all of
- 12:25Speaker 4: the blame here on Bozeki I don't think is correct.
- 12:27Speaker 4: I don't think he behaved in the correct manner at
- 12:29Speaker 4: the time, but it's not one hundred percent his fault
- 12:31Speaker 4: and zero percent everyone else's fault.
- 12:33Speaker 3: There is a degree of percentage in all of this.
- 12:36Speaker 4: And just getting back to that precedent thing, I think
- 12:39Speaker 4: that you know, the fact that the leader of the
- 12:41Speaker 4: world's highest profile Too Will Road Racing Championship was banned
- 12:46Speaker 4: for a race because of an action that filters down
- 12:48Speaker 4: through every single level of motorsport, Like if it happened,
- 12:51Speaker 4: if it can be attributed to someone like Buzeki, then
- 12:54Speaker 4: there's you know, that's got to be a light bulb
- 12:56Speaker 4: that goes off for every rider everywhere in the world,
- 12:58Speaker 4: not just in the World Championship. So I can understand
- 13:01Speaker 4: why they did it. He was incredibly unfortunate. And you
- 13:05Speaker 4: also know, I think you saw him on Sunday. I mean, yeah,
- 13:08Speaker 4: it's a little bit stage managed because the cameras are
- 13:10Speaker 4: there and all that sort of stuff, but he was
- 13:11Speaker 4: genuinely repentant for what he had done. And I don't
- 13:14Speaker 4: just think he was sorry because he missed the chance
- 13:17Speaker 4: to race and to score points on the weekend. I
- 13:19Speaker 4: think he genuinely felt remorse because you've been around Marco,
- 13:22Speaker 4: you know what he's like. That's not his personality generally,
- 13:25Speaker 4: Like he can get a bit fiery when the helmet's down,
- 13:27Speaker 4: like they all can, but he's generally a much more
- 13:30Speaker 4: chilled out sort of a guy. And I reckon that
- 13:32Speaker 4: he would have seen the vision of that and immediately thought,
- 13:34Speaker 4: oh my god, what have I done? And there was
- 13:36Speaker 4: some degree of regret for that. And I think if
- 13:39Speaker 4: a similar situation arises, I think he will act very,
- 13:42Speaker 4: very differently.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Mark Marquez was asked in the post race press conference,
- 13:48Speaker 1: which all the media can attend and viewers at home
- 13:52Speaker 1: can watch on the man a GP video pass, and
- 13:55Speaker 1: someone asks Mark what, actually, all three but Mark sans
- 13:59Speaker 1: have really caught me up?
- 14:00Speaker 2: God.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Someone asked Mark, what was your thoughts on Marco Betzeki
- 14:03Speaker 1: in that moment?
- 14:05Speaker 2: And Mark paused.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Because everyone who's listening, Matt teaches me about body language, right,
- 14:09Speaker 1: so this is something I'm really paying attention to with
- 14:11Speaker 1: these writers now, it's the thing. But he paused, He
- 14:14Speaker 1: thought about it. And then what he said next was phenomenal.
- 14:18Speaker 1: He goes, you know, we're young adults, we're in our twenties,
- 14:21Speaker 1: we're in our thirties, we're experiencing life for the first time,
- 14:25Speaker 1: just like everybody else. He goes, the hardest part for
- 14:28Speaker 1: us is we have millions of eyes watching what we're doing,
- 14:32Speaker 1: so in that moment, you're not necessarily thinking about that.
- 14:36Speaker 1: But then something will happen and then it goes out.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Everybody sees it, everybody has an opinion on it, but
- 14:42Speaker 1: we're also experiencing this for the first time too, So
- 14:45Speaker 1: I thought that was really really interesting going. You know,
- 14:48Speaker 1: I'm sure it's happened at a local track day. I'm
- 14:50Speaker 1: sure it's happened a domestic series. It's just not portrayed
- 14:54Speaker 1: on every news article, and everybody doesn't get it to
- 14:57Speaker 1: say their opinion and talk about how bad Marco is
- 15:00Speaker 1: or the Marshall, whatever the verdict is. But in that moment,
- 15:04Speaker 1: I think he got caught up. Then I hear that
- 15:07Speaker 1: from Mark. Then I watched back Marco's reaction on Sunday morning,
- 15:12Speaker 1: and you hit the nail on the head.
- 15:13Speaker 2: He was so embarrassed by it because it's.
- 15:16Speaker 1: So out of character for the more mature Marco that
- 15:20Speaker 1: we're seeing at the moment in this season.
- 15:23Speaker 4: Yeah, and you mentioned before about these people in terms
- 15:26Speaker 4: of life. They are young people and these are unfamiliar
- 15:29Speaker 4: situations like if a rider starts to lose the front,
- 15:31Speaker 4: they know how to save it. If a rider goes
- 15:33Speaker 4: too deep into a corner, they know how to save it.
- 15:35Speaker 4: All of these racing things they've done since they were kids.
- 15:38Speaker 4: There's a you know, danger and peril and you have
- 15:40Speaker 4: to react. But they're experienced in reacting to those situations
- 15:44Speaker 4: because it's what they do. No one trains for how
- 15:47Speaker 4: am I going to react if a Marshall is revving
- 15:50Speaker 4: my bike in a gravel trap after I have crashed it.
- 15:52Speaker 4: No one has ever thought of that before, and so
- 15:55Speaker 4: it's a first time experience and you just don't know.
- 15:57Speaker 4: You could be an experienced rider and inexperience to someone
- 16:00Speaker 4: in the middle of their career like bazekis. You don't
- 16:02Speaker 4: know how you're going to react to something like that
- 16:04Speaker 4: until you're in the middle of it. And so yeah,
- 16:06Speaker 4: there's a massive degree of regret there. I think the
- 16:09Speaker 4: one thing that's good if I can frame it that
- 16:12Speaker 4: way about this was that you would hate a World
- 16:15Speaker 4: championship to be decided by something like this in the second,
- 16:18Speaker 4: last round or the last round. You would absolutely hate
- 16:20Speaker 4: that to be the case. You imagine if this was
- 16:22Speaker 4: the last round and he lost the World Championship because
- 16:24Speaker 4: of it. I mean, you know, a fowl is a
- 16:26Speaker 4: fowl is a foul. It doesn't matter where it happens, right.
- 16:28Speaker 4: It could be the first race, the middle race, or
- 16:30Speaker 4: the last race of the year. But I think we
- 16:32Speaker 4: can be thankful that this. It might be something we
- 16:35Speaker 4: look back at as the season story progresses, but I
- 16:38Speaker 4: don't think it's the defining moment of the season. And
- 16:41Speaker 4: the good thing for us is that the defining moments
- 16:43Speaker 4: of the season happened on track and we've still got
- 16:45Speaker 4: thirteen rounds of them to go.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Defining moment of the season was something that I thought
- 16:50Speaker 1: we were going to experience this weekend with Iagura being
- 16:54Speaker 1: so close to that first victory, like in the press room,
- 17:00Speaker 1: in just the vibes, being in the paddock and everything.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Everyone is rooting for them.
- 17:05Speaker 1: I anger even when Digita was asked, you know you're
- 17:08Speaker 1: the biggest I grew friend, and He's like, yeah, you know,
- 17:11Speaker 1: beat me.
- 17:11Speaker 2: To pole position because Digita was a second on the grid.
- 17:14Speaker 1: But he's going, man, he is strong at this track,
- 17:18Speaker 1: and that was so clear from the get go. You
- 17:20Speaker 1: could really see eye he likes this track, He felt
- 17:23Speaker 1: comfortable on this track. Everything just sort of seemed to
- 17:27Speaker 1: tick the box. But now his thing is obviously converting
- 17:30Speaker 1: it to that first win. But how does he convert
- 17:32Speaker 1: that feeling to Asen to saxon Ry to all these
- 17:36Speaker 1: tracks that we're going to in the future, because you know,
- 17:39Speaker 1: you're not always going to have a track that you
- 17:41Speaker 1: just absolutely love and everything seems to line up for you.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:45Speaker 4: I mean, he's just improving at such a rapid race.
- 17:48Speaker 4: And you know, we saw at the start of the year,
- 17:50Speaker 4: like when he had a good result, or he'd have
- 17:51Speaker 4: one of these races where he'd come through from you know,
- 17:54Speaker 4: tenth and he'd been dibbling get the back end of
- 17:55Speaker 4: the podium at the end. You'd be like, oh, well,
- 17:57Speaker 4: that's nice. That's a bit of an anomaly and a
- 17:59Speaker 4: bit of a nice store and it's not something we're expecting.
- 18:01Speaker 4: Our expectations for what he can do now are just
- 18:04Speaker 4: growing by the week because he's improving so fast, and
- 18:08Speaker 4: it was interesting. I thought Bruno to me showed me
- 18:10Speaker 4: two things in that it showed that he's a quick learner,
- 18:13Speaker 4: because qualifying has been a bit of an achilles heel
- 18:17Speaker 4: for him. And he got the you know he's fast
- 18:18Speaker 4: on Friday and got the lap riding Q two started
- 18:20Speaker 4: from pole. It was you know, I think he's best
- 18:23Speaker 4: qualifying before this week it was sixth. So he's definitely
- 18:26Speaker 4: made a massive jump in that regard. In you not
- 18:29Speaker 4: even halfway through his second season, remember, so qualifying is
- 18:32Speaker 4: a box that he needs to tick. But it was
- 18:35Speaker 4: interesting that after the race he kind of acknowledged that
- 18:39Speaker 4: maybe he was a little bit too conservative and that
- 18:41Speaker 4: he should have been a little bit more attacking with Vanyaya.
- 18:43Speaker 4: Earlier in the race he was thinking, I need to
- 18:45Speaker 4: save tire, I need to save tire, where he actually
- 18:48Speaker 4: had more than enough at the end of the race
- 18:50Speaker 4: where he possibly could have gone a bit harder, a
- 18:52Speaker 4: bit earlier. And that's not a function of him not
- 18:54Speaker 4: being a good rider. It's just a function of him
- 18:56Speaker 4: never having fought for something like this before in Moto GP,
- 18:59Speaker 4: and it struck you know, you're in the cool down
- 19:01Speaker 4: room after the race, You've got two riders that let
- 19:04Speaker 4: me do some quick mats here have won one hundred
- 19:07Speaker 4: and six motor GP races and nine world championships between them,
- 19:11Speaker 4: and i agur as the guy splitting them on the podium.
- 19:13Speaker 4: I mean that in itself is absolutely phenomenal.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Yeah, No, it's brilliant.
- 19:18Speaker 1: I mean like he's breaking records, he's really showing everyone
- 19:21Speaker 1: why he should be a motor GP, why he deserves
- 19:23Speaker 1: to be there. Also, I think a brilliant are probably
- 19:27Speaker 1: starting to kick themselves with the fact that he is
- 19:29Speaker 1: going to Yamaha next year, which I'm sure that announcement
- 19:31Speaker 1: will come out soon. But like you said, he's our
- 19:36Speaker 1: way of defining who he is, who we talking about before.
- 19:39Speaker 2: Here's the diesel train.
- 19:40Speaker 1: He needed that first year to get everything up and running,
- 19:43Speaker 1: and even the start of this year just to understand
- 19:45Speaker 1: the bike and work in.
- 19:47Speaker 2: That movement again.
- 19:47Speaker 1: And now we're starting to see that as he progresses
- 19:51Speaker 1: through it and as phenomenal, you know. But it's also
- 19:54Speaker 1: so funny from like a social point and just like
- 19:57Speaker 1: a media point. Yeah, it's like the opposite of every
- 20:01Speaker 1: other proto GP writer that's in that. I did a
- 20:06Speaker 1: post for Ko Sports where the in the core down room,
- 20:10Speaker 1: Like you mentioned a it was great that they actually
- 20:12Speaker 1: spoke English for us English speacause that we can feel
- 20:15Speaker 1: what they were saying.
- 20:16Speaker 2: But when Mark looks over to him and goes, did
- 20:18Speaker 2: you suffer?
- 20:19Speaker 5: And I was like, nah, it's just so iagura and
- 20:25Speaker 5: it's fantastic, Like it's it's exciting for the sport, it's
- 20:28Speaker 5: exciting for us at home as the fans, but it's
- 20:31Speaker 5: also it's so cool to see that it's his second
- 20:34Speaker 5: year and he's already on the podium.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:36Speaker 4: And the cool thing I like about this is that,
- 20:38Speaker 4: you know, one of my anyone hasn't said that, we
- 20:40Speaker 4: haven't said Pramahar this episode yet, but one of my
- 20:42Speaker 4: favorite sayings with this sport is that styles make fights right,
- 20:46Speaker 4: and so if everyone was the same, it'd all be very,
- 20:48Speaker 4: very boring. We need our spiky personalities or our feisty personalities.
- 20:52Speaker 4: We need people that beat themselves up when things don't
- 20:54Speaker 4: go right. We need someone like an Aya Guru who
- 20:57Speaker 4: is just so emotionally flatline all of the time. But
- 21:01Speaker 4: I like the fact that there is a point of
- 21:03Speaker 4: difference there. So the thing that I'm enjoying about what
- 21:05Speaker 4: he's doing this year is that he's the least surprised
- 21:09Speaker 4: with how well he's going because he clearly believes in
- 21:11Speaker 4: his own ability and knows the way he thinks he
- 21:14Speaker 4: needs to be good at motor GP and it might
- 21:16Speaker 4: not be a way that we're familiar with because there's
- 21:18Speaker 4: nationalistic traits and just the way he is as a writer.
- 21:21Speaker 4: Like you said, the diesel trains the perfect description, but
- 21:23Speaker 4: I like the fact that he is a point of differences.
- 21:26Speaker 4: You can't look at him and go, oh, he's going
- 21:28Speaker 4: about this a bit like someone else. He's not a
- 21:30Speaker 4: bit like anybody. He's a bit like Igura. And that's
- 21:33Speaker 4: the thing we're enjoying about this right now is that
- 21:35Speaker 4: he's doing it his way, and there's more than one
- 21:38Speaker 4: way emotionally and the way he goes about he's writing
- 21:41Speaker 4: to be very very quick, but the complete belief in
- 21:45Speaker 4: his own ability and knowing now the fact that he
- 21:47Speaker 4: verbalized the fact that, yeah, I was inexperienced at the
- 21:49Speaker 4: start of the race, and I didn't really know how
- 21:51Speaker 4: hard I could go up the front because he hadn't
- 21:53Speaker 4: been there at the start of a race before. And
- 21:56Speaker 4: you know that the next time that happens, he's going
- 21:58Speaker 4: to take the lessons from Bruno and he's going to
- 21:59Speaker 4: be better at it. And he just keeps building and
- 22:02Speaker 4: building and building, and the sad you know, the sad trumpet.
- 22:07Speaker 4: Part of this particular story, of course, is next year
- 22:10Speaker 4: he's going to be riding a yabaha, so he better
- 22:12Speaker 4: make the most of these next thirteen rounds.
- 22:14Speaker 3: Huh.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Well, I mean we did get to see the eight
- 22:17Speaker 1: fifty tests on Monday, but well, I'm been strong there.
- 22:21Speaker 2: I do know there was some people hiding in the bushes.
- 22:25Speaker 4: I did wonder if I was going to like check
- 22:27Speaker 4: where you were, and you're sort of you know, geolocation
- 22:30Speaker 4: on your phone if you're like hiding up a tree
- 22:31Speaker 4: somewhere just outside of Bruno trying to get some binoculars
- 22:34Speaker 4: on what was going on. I didn't check, but I
- 22:35Speaker 4: probably should have.
- 22:37Speaker 2: For those who don't know, or maybe I have never
- 22:42Speaker 2: been to Brewnery.
- 22:43Speaker 1: It's about two hours from frug and it's quite an
- 22:46Speaker 1: industrial sort of city, like there's a like it's quite
- 22:49Speaker 1: a decent city, right, But the former Czech Mato GP
- 22:53Speaker 1: writer Carol Abraham, he has a house like not even
- 22:57Speaker 1: three minutes from the track.
- 22:58Speaker 2: So the track, there's like a lot of forest land
- 23:00Speaker 2: and then he has a house there. And it's funny
- 23:03Speaker 2: because everybody was coming.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Up and talking to him this weekend and I was thinking, Yeah,
- 23:06Speaker 1: everybody's trying to find a way to get in that
- 23:08Speaker 1: forest to go in like watch the bikes on Monday
- 23:12Speaker 1: because the fans, I mean, there's a lot of fans
- 23:14Speaker 1: there and it's a really cool like stadium section where
- 23:17Speaker 1: it's like naturally built into the Earth's side.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Because it's quite hilly there.
- 23:21Speaker 1: But there was fans who would just ride there, pushbikes
- 23:24Speaker 1: in through the forest and would see on the edge
- 23:25Speaker 1: of the fence. So I mean it's great, like it
- 23:27Speaker 1: brings people in, but it also I'm sure there's a
- 23:29Speaker 1: lot of journalists hiding entrees on Monday trying to see
- 23:32Speaker 1: the eight fifties on track.
- 23:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I can imagine someone saying to Carol Abraham, can
- 23:37Speaker 4: I just like stand on your roof for a couple
- 23:38Speaker 4: of hours?
- 23:39Speaker 3: Is that fine?
- 23:39Speaker 4: Like could he could have sold like spots on his
- 23:42Speaker 4: roof for half an hour and a bay to fortune
- 23:43Speaker 4: on Monday? Because everyone was key to see what was
- 23:45Speaker 4: going on. But officially at least nobody did, so that
- 23:48Speaker 4: you go.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Nothing on socials, but back to the important matters. Perko Banyaya.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Now. He was asked in Sunday's press conference Peco compared
- 23:56Speaker 1: to twenty twenty four, how do you feel? His response was,
- 24:01Speaker 1: I don't compare myself to twenty twenty four, but it's
- 24:03Speaker 1: because it's completely different and it seems like what I
- 24:07Speaker 1: was just mentioning before with I agree, and I'd love
- 24:09Speaker 1: to hear your thoughts on it. Is this just one
- 24:13Speaker 1: of those tracks that just seemed to tick the boxes
- 24:16Speaker 1: for Peco in that moment. I mean, and then I
- 24:19Speaker 1: know we're going to ask in a track that he
- 24:20Speaker 1: has tattooed on his arm.
- 24:22Speaker 2: We can talk all about that, but it was just
- 24:25Speaker 2: just like a moment.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Did all the stars aligne for Peco to be at
- 24:29Speaker 1: the top or is he made that step that he
- 24:33Speaker 1: needed to be there with.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Mark that little bit more consistently.
- 24:39Speaker 4: Yeah, it sort of felt like towards the end of
- 24:41Speaker 4: last year he was like having some sort of you know,
- 24:43Speaker 4: public you know, psychotherapy session going on. Basically, it felt
- 24:46Speaker 4: like he was just sort of bearing his soul in
- 24:48Speaker 4: front of the public and exposing some of the things
- 24:51Speaker 4: that had come out just from being completely lost last year.
- 24:53Speaker 4: And I've said this with Pecko before, and this is
- 24:56Speaker 4: what I actually really enjoy talking to him from a
- 24:57Speaker 4: media point of view. He's a bit of an overthinker,
- 25:01Speaker 4: and I mean that as a compliment, not as a
- 25:03Speaker 4: dearc He overthinks things, he overcomplicates things, and so I
- 25:07Speaker 4: think he you know, we've discussed this before. He's this
- 25:09Speaker 4: generation sau he Lorenzo and that when things are great,
- 25:12Speaker 4: like good lord like, he's just absolutely metronomic. And he
- 25:16Speaker 4: had that, you know, stint through twenty two and twenty
- 25:18Speaker 4: three when he was winning will titles that it's one
- 25:21Speaker 4: thing to know what a guy's going to do, but
- 25:23Speaker 4: it's another thing to be powerless to stop it. And
- 25:25Speaker 4: it kind of felt like when he was in his
- 25:27Speaker 4: sweet spot, there was kind enough that you.
- 25:28Speaker 3: Could do about it.
- 25:29Speaker 4: He was just so so quick and made so few mistakes,
- 25:33Speaker 4: and obviously last year got into his head a little bit.
- 25:35Speaker 4: He's got Mark on the other side of the garage.
- 25:37Speaker 4: He hated the way the GP twenty five handled, couldn't
- 25:40Speaker 4: enjoy the front end feel for him is everything. If
- 25:42Speaker 4: he doesn't have it, he feels he can't be fast
- 25:45Speaker 4: within his head and he can't trick himself into just
- 25:47Speaker 4: twisting the throttle a bit harder. He's got his confidence back.
- 25:50Speaker 4: He can see that. This year it's been some sort
- 25:52Speaker 4: of exorcism or something as he's leaving to Caddy. Funnily enough,
- 25:56Speaker 4: but you go to Bruno and it's I mean, you
- 25:58Speaker 4: know from being there, Ashvelt, super wide, super grippy. So
- 26:03Speaker 4: it takes all of those things that he will, all
- 26:05Speaker 4: the little doubts that he gets in his head when
- 26:07Speaker 4: he's at certain tracks where he's not quite sure. All
- 26:09Speaker 4: of them are just parked off to the side. He
- 26:11Speaker 4: could just get in there and ride, and then his
- 26:14Speaker 4: sort of performance envelope increases. And so we've seen him
- 26:17Speaker 4: building over these past four rounds. He's had four Grand
- 26:19Speaker 4: Prix podiums in a row now, just very quietly. I
- 26:22Speaker 4: still don't see him as big, any sort of championship contender,
- 26:25Speaker 4: but it was he could never have stayed as bad
- 26:28Speaker 4: as last year for as long as it did. It
- 26:30Speaker 4: was just so so bad last year. He was looking
- 26:34Speaker 4: like a guy who was not befitting of the two
- 26:37Speaker 4: time world championship tag. And he's clearly better than that now,
- 26:41Speaker 4: is he ever going to be as good as twenty
- 26:42Speaker 4: four again? Results wise, maybe not? I think, you know,
- 26:45Speaker 4: he pointed to the fact that he feels he's a
- 26:46Speaker 4: better rider and that he's evolved, and maybe that's just
- 26:49Speaker 4: a function of going through the struggles that he went
- 26:51Speaker 4: through last year. He has come out the other side
- 26:53Speaker 4: of that and he's learned some things about himself. I'm
- 26:56Speaker 4: not sure, and he would probably admit this. He's not
- 26:58Speaker 4: the most adaptable guy the world, Like I don't think
- 27:01Speaker 4: he deals with things that are not quite at east
- 27:03Speaker 4: of sort of sweet spot particularly well. But then it's
- 27:06Speaker 4: a matter of trying to mitigate the bad days with
- 27:09Speaker 4: those and then when things are good, and we've seen
- 27:11Speaker 4: it because he's won thirty one Grand Prix for to Catti,
- 27:14Speaker 4: when things are good for him, they're really good, and
- 27:17Speaker 4: I'll be so interested to see that. We know that
- 27:19Speaker 4: the Aprilia thing is going to be happening for next year.
- 27:22Speaker 4: We don't know how much carryover there's going to be
- 27:23Speaker 4: in terms of the way these bikes handle between the
- 27:25Speaker 4: thousands and the eight fifties. But if you give him
- 27:28Speaker 4: a bike that can be ridden the way he wants
- 27:31Speaker 4: to ride, it, and he can be fast. We know
- 27:33Speaker 4: what happens, he wins world titles. But he's also got
- 27:35Speaker 4: the biggest variance between very narrow sweet spot that he's
- 27:39Speaker 4: devastating in and then when things go wrong, they go
- 27:41Speaker 4: really wrong, and we saw that last year. So it's
- 27:43Speaker 4: nice to sort of see him back at the sharp
- 27:45Speaker 4: end because, you know, again talking about a point of difference,
- 27:48Speaker 4: he's just such an accomplished rider when he's at the front,
- 27:50Speaker 4: and it was kind of refreshing, like to see sort
- 27:52Speaker 4: of old school Pecko in the front for seventy five
- 27:54Speaker 4: percent of that race. He ran a tire in the end,
- 27:57Speaker 4: and he kind of knew that, but it didn't look
- 27:59Speaker 4: like some sort of an outlier. It looks like something
- 28:01Speaker 4: that we might see a bit more regularly. And like
- 28:03Speaker 4: you said, accent, he's so good there and it wouldn't
- 28:05Speaker 4: surprise me at all if he's up there again this weekend.
- 28:09Speaker 1: One thing you pointed out there that just made me
- 28:11Speaker 1: think about the future is Peco going to a Prillier
- 28:15Speaker 1: is okay? How long is it going to take him
- 28:18Speaker 1: to adjust to that new environment because he's been factory
- 28:22Speaker 1: gi Catti for ages before.
- 28:24Speaker 2: That was this is a long time ago, isn't it.
- 28:29Speaker 1: But okay, he's been so like you said, he likes
- 28:32Speaker 1: his environment, he knows he needs that around him. How
- 28:36Speaker 1: long is it going to take for him to adjust
- 28:38Speaker 1: to that new environment? Is that something that is going
- 28:41Speaker 1: to be quite quickly because he's mentally already, like you said,
- 28:44Speaker 1: kind of checked out from where he is and wants
- 28:45Speaker 1: to go there. Or is it going to be that
- 28:47Speaker 1: slow burned? I think that would be something for everybody
- 28:50Speaker 1: like listening and the fans, so really pay attention to.
- 28:52Speaker 2: I mean, obviously we'll see the Valencia test, but.
- 28:56Speaker 4: My guess if I had to put money on one
- 28:58Speaker 4: side of it or the other in that some writers
- 29:02Speaker 4: it's the old approach.
- 29:02Speaker 3: Do you need a carrot or do you do to stick? Right?
- 29:04Speaker 4: Pecko's a guy who operates better when he has an
- 29:06Speaker 4: arm randy shoulder, and you know we're all on your side, Pecko.
- 29:09Speaker 4: You know we're all in this together. We'll get you
- 29:11Speaker 4: to where you need to go. Whereas Factory de Catti
- 29:14Speaker 4: is a bit more harsh under Gigi Delina and Davidae
- 29:17Speaker 4: Tai Dootzi and it's a bit like you're just another
- 29:20Speaker 4: cog in the wheel. And if you're not pulling your weight,
- 29:22Speaker 4: then sorry. And we saw that last year because he
- 29:24Speaker 4: was their favorite son when he was winning, and then
- 29:27Speaker 4: someone came in and started winning more and did it
- 29:29Speaker 4: better and they were off him very quickly. And I
- 29:31Speaker 4: think that was part of it as well, like different
- 29:33Speaker 4: riders have different makeups and it's neither good nor bad.
- 29:36Speaker 4: Everyone just has a different way of going about it.
- 29:38Speaker 4: The Prillier thing to me, as much as it's a
- 29:40Speaker 4: big motor GP team now and I think this is
- 29:43Speaker 4: just a testament to Masima Rivla's leadership style. It feels
- 29:46Speaker 4: much more like a family to me, and he's the
- 29:48Speaker 4: sort of guy I think that responds better that if
- 29:51Speaker 4: it goes wrong, and it will, because this is world
- 29:54Speaker 4: championship sport, it's what happens. He'll appreciate the arm randy
- 29:58Speaker 4: shoulder and say it's okay, we're in this to will
- 30:00Speaker 4: get you out of this, as opposed to be better,
- 30:03Speaker 4: which is kind of the decading way of doing things.
- 30:06Speaker 4: And so you know, in terms of is he going
- 30:08Speaker 4: to take a long time to adjust because of the
- 30:10Speaker 4: way those two teams operate very differently, I don't think so.
- 30:13Speaker 4: I actually think that he'll be quite it will be
- 30:16Speaker 4: quite seamless for him getting in there. He'll be with
- 30:18Speaker 4: Bizeki that their mates, they've been here together for years.
- 30:21Speaker 4: I think it's a really good environment for him that
- 30:23Speaker 4: will bring the best out of him. What's really interesting,
- 30:26Speaker 4: and I don't know if you've heard this, but I've
- 30:27Speaker 4: heard this from a couple of sources now, it sounds
- 30:30Speaker 4: like the contract that he's signed with them is four years,
- 30:33Speaker 4: which is really interesting in that a lot of the
- 30:36Speaker 4: deals these writers will do it for two year cycles, right,
- 30:39Speaker 4: And I think he's taken less money and more stability
- 30:42Speaker 4: perhaps over the course of the four years, because he
- 30:45Speaker 4: feels like he probably wants to put roots down there
- 30:47Speaker 4: and this will be like the next and long stop
- 30:50Speaker 4: and maybe the last stop of his motor GP career.
- 30:53Speaker 4: The very fact that if that is the case, if
- 30:55Speaker 4: it's a four year deal, it's kind of unprecedented for
- 30:57Speaker 4: twenty twenty six to have such a long contract. But
- 30:59Speaker 4: for some like him and what he's been through the
- 31:01Speaker 4: last couple of years, I can understand why he would
- 31:04Speaker 4: want that sort of thing. It goes back to that
- 31:05Speaker 4: family environment that I was talking about before.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Yeah, that wow, that's news. To me, I've not heard
- 31:11Speaker 2: that through the room.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Omeal, but interesting if that's the case, considering then Mark
- 31:15Speaker 1: wanted to do a one plus one. So you got
- 31:17Speaker 1: one site wanting to do something like that and then
- 31:19Speaker 1: four year commitment.
- 31:20Speaker 2: That's huge. Like wow, just briefly.
- 31:25Speaker 1: One thing I did want to mention about Bruno is
- 31:29Speaker 1: the lap time during the race. Oh my god, it
- 31:32Speaker 1: was I grew setting personal best, then lap race records,
- 31:38Speaker 1: Fabio Diggi Antonio though he was a fire on the
- 31:44Speaker 1: last lap, phenomenal considering like it was hot. I was
- 31:48Speaker 1: just telling maunt off air you know air temperature. There
- 31:50Speaker 1: was a sign they were saying thirty two degrees. It
- 31:53Speaker 1: read track temperature and like the mid fifties. I heard
- 31:56Speaker 1: someone even said it was closer to sixty like it
- 31:59Speaker 1: was there. And the fact that they're doing that. We
- 32:02Speaker 1: know the track has group, we know everything like that.
- 32:04Speaker 1: But what insane late race late race pace tun twister
- 32:09Speaker 1: from dig Her in the Czech cron Prix.
- 32:12Speaker 4: Yeah, incredible, And he's one of those guys that's there's
- 32:15Speaker 4: a bit of a guru in there and that he
- 32:18Speaker 4: he qualifies better than a Gura does. Did he his
- 32:21Speaker 4: first couple of laps. Always feels like he gets pushed
- 32:23Speaker 4: around a little bit now, whether he's just a little
- 32:24Speaker 4: bit and needs to get his elbows out a little
- 32:26Speaker 4: bit more. He he's very very good late in races,
- 32:30Speaker 4: Like he's probably the best to caddy rider late in
- 32:32Speaker 4: races this year.
- 32:33Speaker 3: Quite frankly, he's just the first couple of laps.
- 32:36Speaker 4: It always feels like, oh man, you've lost those one
- 32:38Speaker 4: or two positions in the sort of you know, the
- 32:40Speaker 4: hurly burley of the first couple of laps, and that
- 32:42Speaker 4: tends to cost him. But yeah, that late race pace
- 32:45Speaker 4: when you consider how hot it was and how warn
- 32:47Speaker 4: that tie was to do. I think he broke the
- 32:49Speaker 4: lap record by half a second on the last lap,
- 32:51Speaker 4: which is absolutely crazy considering how hot it was there.
- 32:54Speaker 4: But yeah, if he could ever get the first couple
- 32:56Speaker 4: of laps right, then I mean he's a threat for
- 32:58Speaker 4: a podium most weekends, which is not something we've said
- 33:01Speaker 4: before this season with did You, But those podiums could
- 33:04Speaker 4: turn into wins.
- 33:05Speaker 3: He's just got to.
- 33:05Speaker 4: Get those first couple of laps right because he's pretty
- 33:07Speaker 4: much there in Q two all the time now. But
- 33:10Speaker 4: it always feels like he goes backwards in the first
- 33:11Speaker 4: two laps.
- 33:13Speaker 1: Let's talk about that first lap and in particular that
- 33:15Speaker 1: first corner because there's been some news come out over
- 33:18Speaker 1: the last couple of days which we knew was going
- 33:20Speaker 1: to happen, but we didn't know exactly right now. But
- 33:24Speaker 1: the start devices have been banned, and you wrote an
- 33:28Speaker 1: article for Fox sports dot com dot a Ford slash
- 33:30Speaker 1: Motorsport got to get the plug in, you know guys
- 33:33Speaker 1: and talking about the start devices and basically saying why,
- 33:40Speaker 1: what the outcome is and what m seg what everyone's
- 33:44Speaker 1: saying is it's because of those crashes that we've seen,
- 33:47Speaker 1: you know, catalognia.
- 33:48Speaker 2: We discussed it on the pod.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Everybody said that you can read all of the internet,
- 33:51Speaker 1: it's notorious for that type of crash or so for
- 33:55Speaker 1: turn one crashes. Let me rephrase that for turn one crashes.
- 33:58Speaker 1: But the fact that we've seen a lot more of
- 34:00Speaker 1: it happening, and even Jack was really vocal about it.
- 34:03Speaker 1: You wrote about it on Fox Sports as well. Is
- 34:07Speaker 1: this going to be the change that we need? Do
- 34:12Speaker 1: you think for the rest of the season.
- 34:15Speaker 4: There's kind of two things here, like there's no you know,
- 34:18Speaker 4: magic bullet, golden ticket, whatever analogy you want to use here.
- 34:22Speaker 4: You can't make motor GP starts completely safe because that's
- 34:25Speaker 4: not why everyone's involved. And it's actually actually impossible when
- 34:28Speaker 4: you've got twenty two riders heading to the first corner,
- 34:30Speaker 4: all squabbling for pieces of tarmac. You can't make them safe.
- 34:33Speaker 4: You can make them safer. And I think the interesting
- 34:36Speaker 4: comment that Jack Miller made after Hungary was that he said,
- 34:39Speaker 4: you know, if we take them off everybody, if we
- 34:42Speaker 4: take the front device off for everybody, then he said,
- 34:44Speaker 4: you know, we're all.
- 34:45Speaker 3: In the same boat.
- 34:46Speaker 4: It's just that the boat right now is going thirty
- 34:47Speaker 4: k is faster than it needs to go because of
- 34:49Speaker 4: the performance game. You're getting into the first corner there,
- 34:51Speaker 4: so if you reduce the speeds a little bit. It's
- 34:54Speaker 4: one of those things that you know, we know that
- 34:56Speaker 4: every bike's got them, and if everyone's arriving in a
- 34:59Speaker 4: packing and it makes it less safe, then everyone's just
- 35:02Speaker 4: going to arrive in the pack without the bond, So
- 35:04Speaker 4: what's the difference. It kind of feels like a bit
- 35:05Speaker 4: of a waste of time and money while increasing risk unnecessarily.
- 35:10Speaker 4: And the other thing you have to remember was they're
- 35:11Speaker 4: all going to be banned for next year anyway, and
- 35:14Speaker 4: so I think that was part of the point with
- 35:15Speaker 4: some of the riders saying that this is not some
- 35:17Speaker 4: sort of you know, catch all that's going to make
- 35:20Speaker 4: starts safer. I mean, I think it was Mark Marquez
- 35:23Speaker 4: basically said, well, we're having more startlight crashes because we
- 35:25Speaker 4: have sprints at every round now, so we're doing forty
- 35:27Speaker 4: four starts a year, not twenty two, which is a
- 35:30Speaker 4: very valid point. But the fact that they are all
- 35:32Speaker 4: being taken off the bikes next year anyway, because there's
- 35:34Speaker 4: been a realization that yeah, maybe this isn't really adding
- 35:37Speaker 4: to the show, but it's just increasing the risk taking
- 35:40Speaker 4: them off half a season early.
- 35:42Speaker 3: It is what it is.
- 35:43Speaker 4: I mean, you saw on the weekend at Bruno they
- 35:45Speaker 4: did a couple of practice start sessions after various practice
- 35:48Speaker 4: sessions where they did practice starts with the front device
- 35:51Speaker 4: and practice starts without, and you know, it was a
- 35:54Speaker 4: mixed bag that. You know, the start at Asen this
- 35:57Speaker 4: weekend could be possibly more chaotic because I think people
- 36:00Speaker 4: will adjust to it differently. I mean, once we get
- 36:03Speaker 4: two or three rounds into this without the front devices,
- 36:05Speaker 4: everyone will get back to the same level, so it's
- 36:07Speaker 4: going to be different.
- 36:08Speaker 3: But I think it's going.
- 36:09Speaker 4: To to my mind, if you're going to ban something
- 36:12Speaker 4: in six months anyway, and there's a potential safety risk
- 36:14Speaker 4: for continuing to have them. We've seen two monumental first
- 36:18Speaker 4: corner pile ups in the last four rounds.
- 36:20Speaker 3: Just take them off.
- 36:21Speaker 4: I don't really think it's adding too much to the spectacle,
- 36:23Speaker 4: quite frankly, and they're going in the bin at the
- 36:25Speaker 4: end of the year anyway, so what's the point of
- 36:27Speaker 4: keeping them.
- 36:29Speaker 1: You're read in the article though about Masmo Rivela saying
- 36:32Speaker 1: that everyone's almost overreacting and you don't necessarily blame technology.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Is that just a massimo thing to kind of do
- 36:41Speaker 1: the point of difference? And they're almost being like, well,
- 36:44Speaker 1: he believes in his writers, because I guess these writers
- 36:47Speaker 1: have caused some of these term one crushes.
- 36:51Speaker 4: The fact that he said that after Hungary and his
- 36:53Speaker 4: writer was responsible for punting four other writers out of
- 36:56Speaker 4: the race, including his own teammate. I think you might
- 36:58Speaker 4: have just answered your own question there to a degree.
- 37:01Speaker 4: I wonder if he I wonder if he would have
- 37:03Speaker 4: been so adamant about it if the accident was caused
- 37:05Speaker 4: by someone not writing a factory a brilliant but the ego.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I just wanted to bring it up because I
- 37:10Speaker 2: know you're rid about it, and I thought it's interesting
- 37:12Speaker 2: that somebody else is there. But yeah, no, that makes sense.
- 37:15Speaker 1: How the other rule that's coming in is the Stargrid.
- 37:19Speaker 1: The Sargrid's changing, so from the German Grand Prix onwards,
- 37:23Speaker 1: the distance between the roads will increase from nine meters
- 37:26Speaker 1: to twelve meters. Okay, I'm I didn't have a take
- 37:29Speaker 1: measure with me, but Bruno, it's really a wide track.
- 37:34Speaker 1: I think it's like fifteen meters wide across.
- 37:36Speaker 3: Yeah it is, Yep.
- 37:38Speaker 1: It didn't even really feel like there was a lot
- 37:42Speaker 1: of distance between the bikes on the Stargrid.
- 37:45Speaker 2: So I'm really curious as to how for tracks like.
- 37:48Speaker 1: Balaton, which we know is notoriously skinny Saxon ring, same
- 37:52Speaker 1: thing as how are they going to be able to
- 37:54Speaker 1: make this distance on between the Stargrid.
- 37:57Speaker 4: Well, and the other thing that I thought as well
- 37:59Speaker 4: is because you know you mentioned Catalogia before, which's got
- 38:02Speaker 4: the longest run to the first corner of any track
- 38:04Speaker 4: off the grid. I think it's I wrote it enough
- 38:06Speaker 4: times I should know, it's five hundred and ninety five
- 38:08Speaker 4: meters over over half a k basically to the first corner,
- 38:10Speaker 4: which is crazy. There's other tracks where you're in the
- 38:13Speaker 4: first corner so quickly, like you think of somewhere like Messano,
- 38:16Speaker 4: you even think of Philip Pilot. There's not a super
- 38:18Speaker 4: long run to the first corner at the Island either.
- 38:20Speaker 4: So that's interesting for me in that we've got some
- 38:23Speaker 4: tracks later in the season that you know, some of
- 38:25Speaker 4: the older tracks, you might say that they're not super
- 38:28Speaker 4: long runs to the first corner there, so you space
- 38:30Speaker 4: those grids out even more. They'll be almost up to
- 38:32Speaker 4: the last quarter of Philip Pilot. It'll be quite funny.
- 38:34Speaker 4: So yeah, I'll be curious to see how that impacts
- 38:37Speaker 4: the way, you know, because we know these bikes are
- 38:40Speaker 4: difficult to overtake at the moment, so if you're spacing
- 38:43Speaker 4: the grid rows out even further. How that changed tactic,
- 38:45Speaker 4: How that changes tactics going into the first corner for
- 38:48Speaker 4: some of these tracks. Because not every tracks created equal.
- 38:50Speaker 4: That's why we love this sport. There's differences in the tracks. Yeah,
- 38:54Speaker 4: interesting going forward. Also interesting that the first time we
- 38:57Speaker 4: get to see it is at the Saxon Ring, which
- 38:58Speaker 4: is the biggest outlier a track on the Motor GP
- 39:01Speaker 4: calendar because it just continues to go left the entire time,
- 39:04Speaker 4: and it's a complete one of one Saxon rings. So
- 39:07Speaker 4: I don't think we're going to get a really clear
- 39:09Speaker 4: picture of what this is going to do for a
- 39:11Speaker 4: few rounds. Saxon rings always one of those ones where
- 39:13Speaker 4: you go, yeah, it's a bit of an anomaly and
- 39:15Speaker 4: you take it with a picture salt.
- 39:18Speaker 2: Yeah, So keep your eyes peeled on that.
- 39:19Speaker 1: But maybe, yeah, like you said, just let's wait for
- 39:22Speaker 1: after saxon'raen, what's after saxonaren?
- 39:24Speaker 2: Isn't Mazzano?
- 39:24Speaker 3: Do we go Silverstone?
- 39:26Speaker 2: Silverstone? That's it?
- 39:27Speaker 1: Okay?
- 39:27Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that would make more sense than that.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Okay, listeners, keep your eye out for Silverstone on that one.
- 39:34Speaker 1: Are the news that's come out this week, which surprise, surprise,
- 39:37Speaker 1: if you didn't know about this, were you living under
- 39:39Speaker 1: a rock? Mark Marcus has re signed with youw caddie.
- 39:43Speaker 1: This is where the domino starts to fall, and this
- 39:45Speaker 1: is where we finally get to hear because there was
- 39:47Speaker 1: the press conference on the weekend with the heads of
- 39:51Speaker 1: manufacturer the MSMA and Carlos Espeletta talking about the new
- 39:57Speaker 1: agreement that's been made, and it's almost like a court agreement.
- 40:00Speaker 1: You'd say, this the first of it's kind in in
- 40:03Speaker 1: this sport. I sat in that first conference because I
- 40:07Speaker 1: was really curious to hear how they were talking about things.
- 40:11Speaker 1: And I don't know about you, Matt, but god, this
- 40:16Speaker 1: was so coy about it. Everyone was trying to ask
- 40:18Speaker 1: questions and what are you doing? Because the whole talk was,
- 40:21Speaker 1: you know, we want to bring more ice to the sport.
- 40:23Speaker 2: It's the best sport. We love it.
- 40:25Speaker 1: We want we want to expand we want to grow
- 40:27Speaker 1: and everyone's like, yeah, but how are you going to
- 40:29Speaker 1: do that and what are you what are you doing?
- 40:30Speaker 2: And it's like, we just want to grow, we want
- 40:33Speaker 2: to expand. I think that we're going to see some
- 40:38Speaker 2: changes coming. But the first thing that.
- 40:40Speaker 1: Was as soon as that announcement was made, it's like, okay,
- 40:43Speaker 1: now we can get these writer contracts underway, and obviously
- 40:46Speaker 1: the first one being Mark Markeez.
- 40:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:48Speaker 4: It's been so weird in that we came into this
- 40:51Speaker 4: season knowing there were so few riders that actually had
- 40:53Speaker 4: contracts for twenty twenty seven, and we thought this is
- 40:55Speaker 4: going to be the dominant story for the first half
- 40:58Speaker 4: of the season. We had this flurry of oh, here's
- 41:01Speaker 4: all these deals that are supposedly being done right at
- 41:04Speaker 4: the start of the season, I mean before preseason testing
- 41:06Speaker 4: with a couple of them in Malaysia, they were starting
- 41:08Speaker 4: to come out. But then after Marco Bitzeki got married
- 41:11Speaker 4: to his bike at Sepang and that was the fifth
- 41:13Speaker 4: rider to have a contract for next year, everyone just
- 41:16Speaker 4: went really quiet. And part of it was the negotiating
- 41:19Speaker 4: tactic between the manufacturers and MSEG when nearly said Dawner
- 41:22Speaker 4: then to get the concord done for the next five
- 41:26Speaker 4: years to run the championships. So part of it was
- 41:27Speaker 4: we're not going to announce any of this until that's done.
- 41:30Speaker 4: And you mentioned Marquez as the first domino to fall,
- 41:33Speaker 4: and that is the perfect way to describe it, because
- 41:35Speaker 4: there's one of these things that there is an order
- 41:38Speaker 4: to the way these seats are going to be distributed here,
- 41:42Speaker 4: because every action has a reaction, right, So if I
- 41:45Speaker 4: had to guess the order of these things, I would
- 41:48Speaker 4: imagine that maybe Pedro Acosta is the next one to
- 41:52Speaker 4: get announced as Mark Marquez's teammate, because then that creates
- 41:55Speaker 4: a vacuum for everybody else to start doing their game
- 41:57Speaker 4: of musical chairs. Because we know that Banyaya is going
- 42:01Speaker 4: to Aprilia to replace Martin, we know Martin's going to
- 42:05Speaker 4: Yamaha to replace Quaeurro, and we know the Couatururo's going
- 42:07Speaker 4: to Honda. So there's like a degree of it's like
- 42:10Speaker 4: an order that these things need to happen in. The
- 42:13Speaker 4: curious thing for me is, well, there's kind of two
- 42:15Speaker 4: parts about this. There's this is going to be a
- 42:18Speaker 4: degree of almost like what you'd call buyer's remorse with
- 42:21Speaker 4: some of these contracts right now, because at the start
- 42:24Speaker 4: of the season, when everyone's making these decisions, we didn't
- 42:26Speaker 4: really know what the competitive pecking order was for Murder
- 42:28Speaker 4: GP in twenty twenty six. So right now, if your
- 42:30Speaker 4: Juge Martin or you're Aagura, you're going to be trading
- 42:34Speaker 4: in probably the grid's best bike for the brids worst
- 42:37Speaker 4: bike for next year. So how does that change the
- 42:40Speaker 4: rest of your season? Is like, well, I better do
- 42:42Speaker 4: some winning on this thing, because it might be a
- 42:43Speaker 4: while until I'm doing some winning on a Yamaha. And
- 42:46Speaker 4: then how that plays into the championship picture as well,
- 42:48Speaker 4: because I looked at it this morning, I think there's
- 42:51Speaker 4: only is it one of them, it's two or maximum
- 42:54Speaker 4: three riders that are in the top ten of the
- 42:56Speaker 4: standings right now that are actually going to be staying
- 42:58Speaker 4: with their same teams. That's crazy. So you think, obviously
- 43:01Speaker 4: Mark's going to be staying, but you know, even the
- 43:03Speaker 4: guys further down, we know Martine's leaving, We know that
- 43:05Speaker 4: jan Antonio is leaving somewhere, like Fermin Aldergarez leaving. Ralph
- 43:09Speaker 4: Fernandez might be staying at track House.
- 43:11Speaker 3: We don't know.
- 43:11Speaker 4: But there's so much movement within that top ten that
- 43:15Speaker 4: that's going to be super interesting as far as how
- 43:17Speaker 4: does that shape the rest of the championship. Look at
- 43:20Speaker 4: it Prillier, right, for example, Marco Berzeki's resigned, They've got
- 43:23Speaker 4: him for the next couple of years. Joge Martin's off
- 43:26Speaker 4: at the end of the year. What if a Prillier
- 43:28Speaker 4: need Joge Martin to help hold off Mark Marquez in
- 43:31Speaker 4: the last few rounds of the season and Juay is like, well,
- 43:34Speaker 4: you know what, I'm out of here at the end
- 43:35Speaker 4: of the year anyway, So I don't really care. So
- 43:38Speaker 4: that's going to be super super interesting. What's the order
- 43:41Speaker 4: in that these dominoes for because there's lots of dominoes
- 43:43Speaker 4: lined up, we just don't know when they're falling in
- 43:45Speaker 4: what order. How does that change the championship picture for
- 43:48Speaker 4: the end of the year, Because if it is tight
- 43:50Speaker 4: at the end of the year and you've got a
- 43:52Speaker 4: writer who's just literally seeing out his time with his
- 43:54Speaker 4: current employer, be super curious to see whether these guys
- 43:58Speaker 4: are amenable to doing the right thing for the team
- 44:00Speaker 4: about to leave. So, yeah, that's a storyline and watching
- 44:03Speaker 4: the end of the year, particularly if it's close, Yeah,
- 44:06Speaker 4: I'm really looking forward to see how that one gets
- 44:08Speaker 4: handled because I don't know if there's a right or
- 44:09Speaker 4: a wrong way to handle it.
- 44:11Speaker 3: We'll be making this up on the go.
- 44:14Speaker 1: I honestly thought since the Mark announcement it would be
- 44:17Speaker 1: like daily bang bang bang bang bang.
- 44:19Speaker 3: But still by Bee.
- 44:21Speaker 2: Still it still could be.
- 44:22Speaker 1: But now that you say that, I'm wondering if we'll
- 44:24Speaker 1: start to see like a like a little bit of
- 44:27Speaker 1: a break in between or whatnot. I mean, everyone knows
- 44:30Speaker 1: where like seventy percent of the grid is going anyway,
- 44:32Speaker 1: so it's not going to be a surprise when Ah
- 44:34Speaker 1: Pecko's going to a Prillier, Pedro's going to factories you caddy.
- 44:38Speaker 1: But the ones that I'm curious about and I've been
- 44:41Speaker 1: trying to ask and I've been trying to catch Jack
- 44:44Speaker 1: when and where I can, is what is he going
- 44:46Speaker 1: to do next year?
- 44:47Speaker 2: Where is that?
- 44:48Speaker 1: Because you wrote the article, we heard the quotes from
- 44:51Speaker 1: him and speaking a body language once again, you could
- 44:54Speaker 1: see it in his face as well over the weekend.
- 44:56Speaker 1: Is you know Jack might be out of the right
- 44:59Speaker 1: and it's been and interesting because we've spoke about it before.
- 45:02Speaker 1: You know, he's had the last few years where it's
- 45:06Speaker 1: scrambling for that ride, gets the ride, scrambling for that
- 45:08Speaker 1: next ride, gets the ride. He's not had that safety either.
- 45:13Speaker 1: So we've got that on one side. Then the other
- 45:15Speaker 1: thing is I've not necessarily been hearing that Center's got
- 45:19Speaker 1: a ride for Moto GP either because of the flurry
- 45:22Speaker 1: and everything that's happening, which I think for us Ozzie's
- 45:25Speaker 1: is scary. The fact that we might not have an
- 45:28Speaker 1: Australian on the Moto GP grid next year, which is
- 45:32Speaker 1: crazy crazy.
- 45:34Speaker 4: I look reading the tea leaves here, there's kind of
- 45:37Speaker 4: a random third player in this that is not Australian
- 45:40Speaker 4: that is kind of holding things up a little bit
- 45:42Speaker 4: in the TICH three and KATM on a wider level,
- 45:46Speaker 4: the Maverick Vineal lest question is like a massive one
- 45:49Speaker 4: right now because you look at Vinals's name and reputation
- 45:52Speaker 4: of what he's started Moto GP. He's absolutely worthy of
- 45:55Speaker 4: a ride because he's very, very very talented. Bit mercurial,
- 45:58Speaker 4: but you know, he is very very talent at it. Clearly,
- 46:01Speaker 4: he's been injured for basically a year. He hurts himself
- 46:04Speaker 4: at the German Grand Prix at the end of June
- 46:06Speaker 4: if I remember rightly, which is basically now twelve months ago.
- 46:10Speaker 4: I think he's had one top ten finish in twelve
- 46:12Speaker 4: months because he's just not been right. He's missed basically
- 46:14Speaker 4: half the Grand Prix between now and then. He's a guy,
- 46:17Speaker 4: if fully fit, he absolutely deserves a seat in that
- 46:20Speaker 4: KTM stable. Right now, KATM are probably thinking well, what
- 46:23Speaker 4: are we actually doing here, Like would you sign Maverick
- 46:26Speaker 4: Vinalez with any confidence for two years right now? He
- 46:28Speaker 4: probably wouldn't based on the last twelve months, and so
- 46:31Speaker 4: there's all these people that have might have washed out
- 46:33Speaker 4: of seats elsewhere, someone like a Brad Binder or.
- 46:36Speaker 3: Jack as you mentioned.
- 46:37Speaker 4: I don't think anyone's hiring Franko Morbidelli, but you know
- 46:40Speaker 4: what I'm saying, there's people that have fallen out of
- 46:41Speaker 4: favor with certain teams. The KTM situation is now the
- 46:45Speaker 4: one that's kind of the most sort of undecided and volatile.
- 46:50Speaker 3: But I go back to something that.
- 46:51Speaker 4: Guntersteiner said at Magello a couple of rounds ago, which
- 46:55Speaker 4: was he said it in jest, in typical gunta style,
- 46:57Speaker 4: but he mentioned it because he's like, well, all these
- 47:01Speaker 4: guys that don't have jobs, they've got nowhere else to go,
- 47:03Speaker 4: so we could afford to be as patient as be like.
- 47:05Speaker 4: And it was actually a really interesting negotiating tactic because
- 47:08Speaker 4: there's there's too many riders for too few seats right now.
- 47:11Speaker 4: Because you've got Motor two rookies that are stepping up,
- 47:13Speaker 4: there's all these incumbent guys that are scrambling around, going, God,
- 47:16Speaker 4: is there a seat for me somewhere? And Tech three
- 47:19Speaker 4: could have one or two seats, and so Steiner's making
- 47:22Speaker 4: the point, it's like, well, we don't need to rush
- 47:24Speaker 4: here because no one else has anywhere else to go
- 47:26Speaker 4: at the moment. We could just wait and we can
- 47:28Speaker 4: take our time making a decision. So that's really interesting.
- 47:31Speaker 4: I still think that he made a couple of comments
- 47:36Speaker 4: in that same Magello presser that he did where he
- 47:38Speaker 4: was talking about twenty twenty seven's a good year to
- 47:40Speaker 4: take a punt on an unproven rider, and you know
- 47:44Speaker 4: you frame that as being well, you know, we know
- 47:46Speaker 4: that there's been discussions with center AGEUS and that particular team.
- 47:50Speaker 3: I look at all the other.
- 47:51Speaker 4: Manufacturers and they've kind of hitched their mass to like
- 47:55Speaker 4: the fast young guy coming through. Because if there was
- 47:58Speaker 4: ever a good time to be a rookie, it's next
- 47:59Speaker 4: year where the benefit of experience with the bikes is
- 48:02Speaker 4: not a factor because it's new for everybody, right, So
- 48:05Speaker 4: Dicati's going to have Daddy Holgado, Honda's going to have
- 48:08Speaker 4: David Alonso. It looks like Yamaha is going to promote
- 48:11Speaker 4: heasan Guavara, probably in place of Jack, and so all
- 48:14Speaker 4: the other manufacturers are saying, here's our fast young guy
- 48:17Speaker 4: from Moto to We're just going to throw in the
- 48:18Speaker 4: deep end because it's a good year to throw them
- 48:20Speaker 4: in the deep end. So who's Katm's guy? And to
- 48:24Speaker 4: my mind, Katm's guy could be centerageous because he ticks
- 48:27Speaker 4: the boxes for what Holgado and Alonzo and Guevara do,
- 48:32Speaker 4: fast young guy, race winner and Moto two. Let's throw
- 48:35Speaker 4: him in the deepend and see what happens. Because everyone's
- 48:37Speaker 4: starting from zero next year.
- 48:39Speaker 3: So if I had to.
- 48:40Speaker 4: Frame the market, who am I more confident about being
- 48:42Speaker 4: on the grid next year out of Senna and Jack?
- 48:44Speaker 3: I would say Senna.
- 48:46Speaker 4: But the door's not completely closed for Jack yet because
- 48:48Speaker 4: there is the uncertainty of track house and but the
- 48:51Speaker 4: options are few. And I think his frustration at Bruno.
- 48:55Speaker 4: I don't know if you were at that pressa, but
- 48:57Speaker 4: he was super, super frustrated about not being able to
- 49:00Speaker 4: test the eight fifty on the Monday because he had
- 49:03Speaker 4: put his hand up to do it and they basically said, no, thanks,
- 49:05Speaker 4: we're fine. And that's one of those things, is like, man,
- 49:08Speaker 4: I'm trying to do the right thing here, and he's
- 49:10Speaker 4: obviously doing Suzuka for Yamaha next week.
- 49:13Speaker 3: He's doing all the.
- 49:14Speaker 4: Right things, but it's pretty clear that they have moved
- 49:17Speaker 4: on and now the scrambling becomes for him. It's like, well,
- 49:21Speaker 4: is there another seat for me? Can I get to it?
- 49:24Speaker 4: Is it even feasible? And if the answer is not
- 49:26Speaker 4: to all of those questions, then he still clearly wants
- 49:28Speaker 4: to race motorcycles Somewhere. He's got to work out what
- 49:30Speaker 4: the next thing is.
- 49:33Speaker 2: Let's just touch on the center real quickly. I preached
- 49:36Speaker 2: it on socials. He managed to do most of that
- 49:39Speaker 2: Moto II race without.
- 49:40Speaker 1: A needy fell off off, which is phenomenal. We saw
- 49:44Speaker 1: it afterwards.
- 49:46Speaker 2: You know if he did cover up with a towel
- 49:47Speaker 2: quite quickly, but you can see there. I don't know
- 49:50Speaker 2: if someone who's never.
- 49:51Speaker 1: Done a track day or never experienced it, these writers
- 49:54Speaker 1: are utilizing those niche liders a lot to help much
- 49:57Speaker 1: on the bike and corners exactly. So for him to
- 49:59Speaker 1: do that and finish fourth and be that close to
- 50:02Speaker 1: that leading group the whole time, that hats off to
- 50:06Speaker 1: sen A, well done there.
- 50:08Speaker 4: I was outstanding. This is why I'm riding a desk
- 50:11Speaker 4: and not a motor GP bike. Well, it's a lack
- 50:13Speaker 4: of talent for starters, but it's one of those things.
- 50:15Speaker 4: When I saw that knee slider come off my first
- 50:17Speaker 4: thought was actually got a bit squeamish. I'm like, oh no, like,
- 50:20Speaker 4: you can't just suddenly change the way you ride a
- 50:22Speaker 4: bike and be fast. At this point, you've got half
- 50:24Speaker 4: a race to do and you're missing a knee slider,
- 50:27Speaker 4: which of all the things that you could lose during
- 50:28Speaker 4: the race, that's not something you would like. And a
- 50:30Speaker 4: track like Bruno too because of just how long some
- 50:32Speaker 4: of those corners are and how low you are on
- 50:34Speaker 4: the bike. So there was part of me that was
- 50:36Speaker 4: a little bit squeamish and my knee started getting a bitch.
- 50:38Speaker 4: You're just thinking about it, But that's just me. But
- 50:41Speaker 4: he had a very very solid weekend. Again, you know,
- 50:45Speaker 4: couldn't really have done much more, and you know, yes,
- 50:48Speaker 4: there is a pretty significant gap at the top of
- 50:49Speaker 4: that championship with Mano Gonzalez. But I think Senna's doing
- 50:53Speaker 4: He's not having the super big spikes between good and
- 50:55Speaker 4: bad weekends anymore. He's a bit more level, which I
- 50:57Speaker 4: think is something that people in motor GP want to see.
- 51:00Speaker 4: We talked about that earlier this year. I think he's
- 51:02Speaker 4: doing everything he needs to be able to do to
- 51:05Speaker 4: give himself the best possible chance to be on the
- 51:07Speaker 4: Grid next year, which is frankly as an Australian fan
- 51:10Speaker 4: and for people that support Center, that's.
- 51:12Speaker 2: All we can hope for exactly. And we'll just touched
- 51:15Speaker 2: on Joel real quickly.
- 51:16Speaker 1: I spoke with him and he was really happy with
- 51:19Speaker 1: the way that the results went on the weekend and
- 51:22Speaker 1: his progress and improvement on that Honda. That's all he
- 51:25Speaker 1: keeps talking about with the Grid and Love Team is
- 51:28Speaker 1: just the progress and the improvement. And we're seeing that
- 51:30Speaker 1: also filter across to his teammate Eddie o'sha. So while okay,
- 51:34Speaker 1: he's not there fighting for race wins and whatnot anymore,
- 51:38Speaker 1: he's utilizing his skills and his knowledge on the other
- 51:41Speaker 1: side to keep developing that bike. And if that's the
- 51:44Speaker 1: direction that he wants to go and what he wants
- 51:46Speaker 1: to do, it's great because we're seeing the benefits of
- 51:48Speaker 1: that coming now.
- 51:50Speaker 4: You can almost sort of divide he season into two parts,
- 51:52Speaker 4: so that the first part of it was they are
- 51:55Speaker 4: quite a long way off, and so it's clearly got better.
- 51:57Speaker 4: He's obviously much further than the standings he would want
- 52:00Speaker 4: to be. But you know, the arrow is starting from
- 52:02Speaker 4: a low basement. You might say, but at least it's
- 52:05Speaker 4: moving in the correct direction now. So he was pretty
- 52:07Speaker 4: much a permanent top ten fixture for most of the weekend,
- 52:10Speaker 4: so it's not worried what to be. But it's certainly
- 52:12Speaker 4: better than it was, which I guess if you're looking
- 52:14Speaker 4: for small victories, that is one.
- 52:16Speaker 1: You got to take those wins when you can get
- 52:18Speaker 1: them in any sort of form. But let's look ahead
- 52:22Speaker 1: to this weekend because, like I mentioned earlier, it's back
- 52:24Speaker 1: to back Grand PRIs and we are heading to the
- 52:26Speaker 1: Cathedral of Speed. Iconic Tete circuit of Acid. For me,
- 52:32Speaker 1: it's one of my favorites. I love it. It's so flat,
- 52:36Speaker 1: but there's so much the corners of the camber that
- 52:39Speaker 1: really hugged you in.
- 52:40Speaker 2: Like it's such a cool track.
- 52:43Speaker 1: I last year when I was there, I caught up
- 52:44Speaker 1: with Center and we did a track walk around, So
- 52:46Speaker 1: you can head over to the YouTube channel and you
- 52:48Speaker 1: can find that if you want.
- 52:49Speaker 2: To see that.
- 52:50Speaker 1: Yeah, that was quite cool. But Matt, looking your head
- 52:52Speaker 1: to this weekend. I mentioned it earlier. Pecko's got the
- 52:55Speaker 1: t tee circuit tattooed on him because that was his
- 52:58Speaker 1: first victory, So you know, iconic memories for him.
- 53:02Speaker 2: Mark was saying in last week's.
- 53:04Speaker 1: Presser it's not a strong circuit for him, but we
- 53:07Speaker 1: don't trust the word he says anymore. No, what what
- 53:11Speaker 1: are you predicting? Was your thoughts coming in to this weekend.
- 53:16Speaker 4: I'm going to start by asking you how much water
- 53:19Speaker 4: you're going to have to drink over the course of
- 53:20Speaker 4: this weekend and how much sunscreen you're going to have
- 53:22Speaker 4: to slap on, because from what I've read, it's going
- 53:25Speaker 4: to be the hottest Dutch GP that's ever happened. They're
- 53:28Speaker 4: giving temperatures, you know, mid to late thirties on Saturday
- 53:32Speaker 4: and Sunday, which is absolutely crazy for that part of
- 53:34Speaker 4: the world. When you think and north that circuit is
- 53:37Speaker 4: so this strikes me as being it's going to be
- 53:40Speaker 4: a survival of the fittest as well as the fastest strike.
- 53:42Speaker 4: It's going to be one of those races. It's an
- 53:44Speaker 4: absolute war of attrition around there. It's such a physical
- 53:46Speaker 4: track at the best of times, you add, I mean,
- 53:49Speaker 4: I can't remember race days there that have even hit
- 53:51Speaker 4: the thirties before, quite frankly, so this is going to
- 53:53Speaker 4: be a whole different challenge and I'm just going back
- 53:56Speaker 4: to that little visual that you painted before of Iagour
- 53:58Speaker 4: looking like he could go and do an other Czech
- 54:00Speaker 4: Crond Prix, while Mark Marks and Pecopino I had their
- 54:03Speaker 4: tongues ta getting out of their mouths after Pruda on Sunday.
- 54:06Speaker 4: So I dare say that Aprilli is going to work
- 54:08Speaker 4: pretty well around there. And if there was ever a
- 54:10Speaker 4: track that you might put money on Iagura to actually
- 54:12Speaker 4: win his first Grand Prix, given the form that he's
- 54:14Speaker 4: in and the fact that he doesn't seem to be
- 54:16Speaker 4: affected by the heat like some of them, that might
- 54:18Speaker 4: be a very very good shout.
- 54:21Speaker 2: I love that it's brilliant. It's so cool that it's
- 54:25Speaker 2: just so I captured it.
- 54:26Speaker 1: I just doing Iagura things, and I feel like we're
- 54:29Speaker 1: going to have that expection expectation again this weekend.
- 54:33Speaker 2: I wanted to basically ask you prediction.
- 54:37Speaker 1: I'm just going to go straight out with it, Matt,
- 54:40Speaker 1: prediction this weekend is Mark really going to keep playing
- 54:43Speaker 1: everyone's bluff or we're going to see a Prillier dominate,
- 54:47Speaker 1: because you know, historically the Prillier haven't always been strong
- 54:51Speaker 1: at this track. Correctly, if I'm wrong here, But I'm
- 54:53Speaker 1: trying to think last year was Mark.
- 54:55Speaker 2: Who won in the end.
- 54:56Speaker 4: Yeah, Bazeki was right behind him last year, and that
- 54:59Speaker 4: was kind of the first weekend last year where you thought, oh,
- 55:01Speaker 4: this is Brillian is quite good, isn't it. They're starting
- 55:03Speaker 4: to come on a little bit. Like Mark basically rode
- 55:06Speaker 4: just a defensive master class there last year. I don't
- 55:09Speaker 4: think he was actually faster than bes there last year.
- 55:11Speaker 4: He was just fast in the two quarters that matted
- 55:14Speaker 4: and he was sort of a match for him for
- 55:16Speaker 4: the rest of the lap. And Mark just rode those
- 55:18Speaker 4: to those last two left handers coming into that last
- 55:20Speaker 4: stadium section. I don't think he made a mistake for
- 55:22Speaker 4: forty minutes, which is a very Mark thing to do.
- 55:25Speaker 4: So that was a defensive win for Mark. I feel that, yes,
- 55:30Speaker 4: he was playing down his chances at Bruno. His history
- 55:33Speaker 4: at Bruneau suggested that was a bit of a red herring.
- 55:35Speaker 4: He's not generally been as good at Asen as he
- 55:37Speaker 4: has been at somewhere like Bruno. He would get out
- 55:40Speaker 4: of this weekend with a podium would be pretty happy.
- 55:42Speaker 4: I would think, I think Banga is going to be
- 55:43Speaker 4: super strong, but I'll be more interested in that you
- 55:47Speaker 4: know the Apulia, you look at it twelve months on
- 55:49Speaker 4: from when they were at Assen last year. It's a
- 55:50Speaker 4: much different proposition Now there's it's either the you know
- 55:54Speaker 4: it's one or one A in terms of the best
- 55:56Speaker 4: bike on the grid, where we've never really said that before.
- 55:58Speaker 4: Coming into this race weekend, a lot of eyes on
- 56:01Speaker 4: Marco Perzeki, right, there's a lot of sort of face
- 56:03Speaker 4: saving and bounce back storylines going this weekend. I don't
- 56:07Speaker 4: think he necessarily needs to win this weekend, but man
- 56:11Speaker 4: like as a recovery from what happened last weekend at Bruno,
- 56:14Speaker 4: if he has a really really strong weekend, that just
- 56:16Speaker 4: removes that doubt of is he starting to hear the
- 56:20Speaker 4: footsteps a little bit coming behind him? Because the best
- 56:23Speaker 4: that we saw in the first four or five rounds
- 56:24Speaker 4: is not the best that we've seen in the last
- 56:26Speaker 4: four and so I'll be super curious to see how
- 56:28Speaker 4: he bounces back. And in saying all of that, if
- 56:30Speaker 4: it is thirty seven degrees, Igor will win and he
- 56:33Speaker 4: will look completely cool doing it, and he'll wonder what
- 56:35Speaker 4: everyone's passing out the sun for. He will just think
- 56:37Speaker 4: it's completely fined.
- 56:40Speaker 2: It's so true. It's just it's so true. It's right there.
- 56:43Speaker 2: But yeah, someday I'm hearing is going to be bloody hot.
- 56:47Speaker 1: As Bossy in Bruno, I was struggling and I was complaining,
- 56:51Speaker 1: everyone is so hot.
- 56:52Speaker 2: They're like, you should be used to this. Nah, nah,
- 56:56Speaker 2: not at the moment, not where it's winter. No, not
- 56:58Speaker 2: like that, not like that. And they're doing it other suits.
- 57:00Speaker 2: It's crazy. It's crazy anyway.
- 57:03Speaker 4: The concept of that right now, being in Melbourne, right now,
- 57:05Speaker 4: where I don't think it's been more than about thirteen
- 57:07Speaker 4: degrees for about three weeks, I'd probably not make the
- 57:09Speaker 4: end of thirty seven laps.
- 57:10Speaker 3: I might just retire halfway through for a sleep or something.
- 57:14Speaker 2: Well, actually, I remember what I wanted to say.
- 57:16Speaker 1: It's talking about the heat and for everyone on World
- 57:18Speaker 1: Cup fever right now, imagine if we got our hydration
- 57:21Speaker 1: break well they did. Imagine if the writer's got to
- 57:23Speaker 1: do a little so I just need to stop and
- 57:25Speaker 1: get some electrolytes, have a quick WII and then I'll
- 57:27Speaker 1: continue on.
- 57:28Speaker 4: It could be a bit like the Tour de France
- 57:30Speaker 4: where someone's just handing bottles to them as they're coming past.
- 57:32Speaker 4: And they're having a quick trink on the way through
- 57:34Speaker 4: and just tossing them back over their shoulder. That could
- 57:36Speaker 4: be interesting, but yeah, no hydration breaks in Motor GP
- 57:39Speaker 4: and it's all the better for it.
- 57:41Speaker 1: It's all the better for it, and that's exactly why
