  With that being said, yesterday, I shared one of the most painful moments in

  my life. We talked about betrayal.

  We talked about broken trust.
• 1:17
  And we talked about what happens when the truth finally finds you.

  And today we want to talk about different kind of betrayal.

  Not betrayal from a relationship, betrayal from people, friends.

  Co-workers, people who sat at your table people who knew your struggles people

  who smiled in your face the deepest wounds in life don't come from strangers,

  you know people who smiled in your face when I say that and when I say while
• 1:53
  speaking against you behind your back that just brings me back memories but anyway you know,
• 1:59
  despite those wounds they do come from people we trusted it.

  I know from my own experience, they do, and they can. You know,

  what's interesting about betrayal is that most of the time, it doesn't come
• 2:12
  with a warning label. Wouldn't you wish it did?

  If someone walked up to us and said, hey, my name is John, and three years from
• 2:20
  now, I'm gonna back, just make sure I, you know, I'm gonna stab you in the back.

  What? We'd never let them into our lives, but betrayal doesn't work that way.

  It comes disguised as a friendship. It comes disguised as loyalty.

  It comes disguised as support.
• 2:42
  And why it hurts so much is because you didn't just lose a friend.

  You lost trust. You lost confidence.
• 2:52
  You lost a piece of your belief in people.
• 2:56
  I can think back to moments in my life where I genuinely believed certain people were in my corner.

  People I would have defended.
• 3:06
  People I would have helped without hesitation.

  Only discovered later that they weren't celebrating my victories.

  They were criticizing them.
• 3:16
  They weren't supporting me. They weren't competing with me. They weren't protecting me.

  They were talking about me. And even talking about it this morning,
• 3:27
  as tears fill up in my eyes, that hurts.

  Not because of what was said, but because of who said it.

  One lesson I've learned is this. The lesson I've learned is that not everyone
• 3:40
  assigned to your life is assigned to your future.

  Some people are only present for a chapter.
• 3:47
  Some people are present for a lesson. And some people leave because God is protecting
• 3:52
  you from what comes next.
• 3:54
  For years, I thought losing people was a punishment.
• 3:58
  Now I see it differently. Sometimes losing people is protection.
• 4:03
  God removes people who no longer belong in the story he's writing for us.
• 4:09
  And while that doesn't erase the pain, it helps us understand the purpose.

  One of the reasons I can find comfort in Scripture is because Jesus understands betrayal.

  Think about that for a second. Judas was a stranger.
• 4:25
  Judas wasn't a stranger, I should say. He became a stranger of what he did,
• 4:30
  but he wasn't a stranger.
• 4:31
  He wasn't someone standing across town judas sat at the same table he walked
• 4:37
  the same roads witnessed the same miracles and still betrayed christ if jesus
• 4:43
  experienced betrayal then we shouldn't be surprised when we encounter it too,
• 4:50
  But here's the reality, and here's the difference. Jesus didn't allow betrayal
• 4:54
  to stop his purpose, and neither should we.
• 4:57
  If you've been betrayed by a friend, if you've been hurt by people that you've
• 5:03
  trusted, if you've been disappointed by those you thought would always be there,
• 5:09
  I want you to hear this loud and clear.

  Do not let someone's...
• 5:15
  Do not let someone in their action so someone else in their action, harden your heart.
• 5:22
  So learn the lesson, protect your peace, set healthy boundaries,
• 5:27
  but stop living in the past.
• 5:32
  But don't stop loving.
• 5:34
  Because God still hasn't and still has good people waiting to enter your life.

  And we're gonna pray about that this morning.

  But I wanna remind you that tomorrow we're gonna be talking about another painful

  subject. Cheated by love.

  Until then, may God be with you. May he shine his light upon you. May he heal you.

  May he guide you. May he keep you on the path of righteousness.
