- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to another podcast with your bougie multipreneur.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: I'm Hilary Heshawa-Jones.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: So excited to be here with you.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: I have a great topic today.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: As I coach a lot of my clients, which most of them happen to be chiropractors like myself, but as I am a business coach for years with them, one thing that we always come back to is well, I want more Google reviews, or I want more of this, or I need more new patients or memberships, et cetera.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: And I feel like it all comes back to a certain premises about show and tell.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Show the universe what you want and expect and tell them what you want and expect.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: And so what do I mean by this?
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: Here's some examples.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: If my business in one of my businesses, let's say I want Google reviews, I actually am actively giving reviews to other businesses, whether or not they ask me to do it.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: See, I'm showing the universe what I want and what I expect in return.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: So that way when I'm asking people for reviews on Google, Facebook, social media, et cetera, I know that I've been giving out what I've been asking.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: So I'm trying to do and mirror what I expect and want out there.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: So when a lot of you ask and say that you want Google reviews for your business, are you actively giving them out?
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Like, do you take time every week and sit down and think about all the businesses that you can give Google reviews to?
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: Or do you wait until someone texts you or emails you and asks you to do that?
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: And do you remember to do it?
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: So I am a firm believer of giving out what you expect to come in.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Again, telling the universe, I like to call it a little show and tell, right?
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: So if you need that for your business, you need reviews because I mean who doesn't?
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Everyone loves reviews and endorsements.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Well, start doing it for other people, right?
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: I know it seems simple, but start getting in the habit of doing it regularly.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: What about you, you know, you say, well, I don't need Google reviews.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Great, but I would love if my clients paid for full in whatever it is.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: For chiropractors, sometimes it's a whole care plan that they pay in full for other businesses, it's your full invoice for a year, let's say.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: So start doing that.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: Are you personally doing that other businesses?
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: Are you paying in full or are you trying to hustle them, get a deal, etc.?
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: Not me.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Here's my example.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: I have had the pleasure of taking three of the kids to orthodontics in one year and paying in full for orthodontic care plans.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: And so I did that specifically because that's what I would want a family member to do if they were bringing their kids in for chiropractic care or whatever it is.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: I would want them to pay in full.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: I would want them not to try to get deals out of me.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: I would want them to pay for what I'm worth.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: Therefore, I'm gonna do that out there in the community.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: I'm going to, if that's what the price is and that's what I need to pay in full today, I will do it.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: No, I don't need a payment plan.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Thank you, anyways.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: You know, on the inside, would a payment plan help me?
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: Maybe, maybe not.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: Maybe it wouldn't really matter.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's just some insecurities I feel about dishing out, you know,$10,000,$20,000 at a time.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: But if it's if it's needed and I have the money, then why am I not doing it?
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: So I would want another patient, client, etc., to give out also.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: So again, it's mirroring, it's the show and tell.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: It's I will give out also to the universe what I want back in return.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: Another example might be memberships.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: What if you have a business that's based on memberships, monthly memberships, yearly memberships, et cetera?
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Do you personally subscribe to memberships?
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: Do you pay for your memberships?
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: Are you going regularly?
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: These are the things you need to sit back and look at.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Are you mirroring kind of what you expect other people to do?
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: So, case in point for me, for Pilates, I do it the biggest package they have at Pilates.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Because I would want someone to pick my biggest package, right?
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: And but then I actually use it.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: I am the type of person, if I pay for something, I'm going to use it because I hate wasting money, because that money could have been spent on another Gucci purse for me that I really want.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: But I'm going to pay in full for items.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: I'm going to pay for the plans.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: I'm going to pay for the year in full.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: If it's a membership, then I'm going to put my card on auto and it's just going to come out every month, and I'm going to get the highest unlimited package they have at Pilates because that's what I would want someone to do at, let's say, my chiropractic business or for my coaching for that matter.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: I want my coaching clients to pay automatically every month and not have to decide every month if they're going to continue care with me or continue coaching with me, right?
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: So I'm going to give out and do what I want back in return.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: It's these little things.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you guys think about this all the time, but you might be giving off the wrong vibe to the universe if you are asking for these pay and fulls or these reviews and you're not actually doing it yourself.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: So take a moment, think about it, and like switch things up a little bit.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: Also, referrals.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: I really try to help out my local business owners and refer to them a lot.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: Are you doing that?
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: Or, you know, if you expect that as a practitioner or business owner, make sure that you are also giving out and showing and telling the universe what you want.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: Um, give out what you, you know, expect in return.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: Um, for instance, do you spend a little bit more money at your local business than you think it's worth?
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: You know, let's say I'm at a bookstore, right?
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, it's a cute little quaint bookstore.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: It's definitely a mom and pop shop, but I could probably get this for$2 less on Amazon and I could probably get it in two days because that's what Amazon does, right?
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: Do I pay the two extra dollars, support the local business, or do I try to get a deal on Amazon?
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: You know, it's so easy for us to do things like that, Amazon, Target, Walmart, but do they really need our money or extra, you know, or if you gave an extra two dollars or so for that same item to a local mom and pop shop, would that help out them and their community and their family and keep us all going more?
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Probably, right?
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: Like how often are you thinking that?
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Or do you say, I'll just get at Amazon?
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: I'll just go home and order all this stuff, or I don't want to go to those boutiques because they're too expensive.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: I'll get the same thing on Amazon.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you probably can, but why are we supporting a big conglomerate like that?
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: And why are we not supporting our local business owners, our local clothing stores, bookstores, etc.?
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: So something to think about again, keep thinking about what you could do and what you want in return.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: If you are, let's say, a uh chiropractor, physical therapist, massage therapist, and you own your own business, don't you want people to come to you?
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: Or do you want them to go to the big box chain stores that are all around, the same um PT that you see everywhere, the same chiropractic that you see all over the US?
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: Or do you want them to come to you because you are sacrificing for this?
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: You are you know paying for everything for your family, you're giving back to the community too.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: It's kind of like that rule, right?
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: Like treat others as you wish to be treated.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: Like I love that.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: I love thinking about that.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: And I can't say I'm perfect all the time because I'm sure that I've treated people not as I wish to be treated.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: And we all have, but it's okay.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: And we make mistakes and we reassess and see how we are treating business owners, are we treating them like we would like to be treated?
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: You know, do you give extra time and extra help to people?
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: So, for instance, um, care in the chiropractic business, when I'm in that mode, I'm treating them like I would want my family to be treated at perhaps another chiropractic clinic or healthcare facility.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: I want them to be re, you know, I expect them actually to be treated with a lot of respect and and care and like empathy.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: So that's what I'm going to do with people that come into my office.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna treat them as if their family are how I'd want my family to be treated, you know.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: Um, another thing I came across recently when I was talking to people is um we were at a golf course and we were treated so awful at this golf course.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: And I don't want to get into details, but a few of the people I'm with were like, let's leave them bad reviews on Google or leave bad reviews on social media.
- 9:27SPEAKER_00: And I know our our initial instinct is to do something like that, but as a business owner, a lot of us are like, ooh, is that the best plan of action?
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: Or would the better plan of action be to contact the owner or manager to let them know that, hey, your employees are representing your business awfully?
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: Because I know as a business owner, like I can't, you know, be around and hear what my employees are doing all the time.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: And so I appreciate when I've actually, and this has happened to me.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: Um patients and clients have come to me and said that X, Y, and Z happened and they just wanted to let me know.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: And yes, I was appalled.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: And sometimes it's um reprimanding or letting go of certain employees.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: So as a business owner, are you jumping to writing negative reviews and bashing certain local businesses, or are you treating them as you wish to be treated and letting them know about something that's wrong with the business because you want to help them too?
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: And not in a negative way.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: And I and I've gotten this recently too, where someone sent an email about an employee about how she could have responded better at an email.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: Okay, thank you for the lesson on proper email etiquette, and I will relay that with her.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, we don't need lessons.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: Sometimes we just need to know that something wasn't handled correctly, and we're smart enough to talk to our employees on our own.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: You know, we don't need to put negative things out there because that's not what you would want as a business owner.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: So, with that example of the golf course where I was mistreated, or the group of us was mistreated for that matter, um, I chose not to do anything.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: Um, I did speak up and I said, I just so you know, as a business owner, I don't I don't agree with what you're gonna do.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: Um, I said what I would do.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: Um, but they went ahead and did that anyways.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: And you know, that's okay.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: People are have a right to their voice and their opinion.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: Um, but just keep in mind like what that might be throwing out to the universe when you are doing that.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: So if you're having a hard time with certain areas in your life and business, maybe step back and look at it with a broader lens of, are you doing the best at that also?
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: So um here's another example of like giving like grace to more like in a situation.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: Like um, let's say I'm at my chiropractic office and a patient is upset about their billing issue, right?
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: Um, it's not really in the a lot of settings, it's it's like what the insurance dictates, right?
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: Let's just say it like that.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: But we will do everything we can to help is, you know, even maybe more and above, because we're we're helping out someone, we're giving them grace.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: And no, that's not our job to explain to them all of their benefits and explain to them everything about their own insurance policy.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: But giving grace to people, helping them as much as we can is really what makes the world go around, you know.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: Um, last thing I'm gonna throw out there before I leave the podcast today is uh tipping.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: I love to tip more.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: How many of us on here are great at tipping and giving more because of excellent service?
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: And even if I don't get good service, you know, I still leave a great tip because what goes around comes around.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: And I'm telling the universe I'm willing to give out my money.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: Universe, bring me back that money.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: Bring me back$100,000, drop it effortlessly into my lap, and I will give it out more and more.
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: Thanks for listening to the podcast.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: I hope this gave you some things to think about, you know.
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: Um, whether or not you agree with how I run and live my life.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: I appreciate you listening to my opinions and ideas.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: And I hope a little bit helps you.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: Have a great day.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: Get out there and uh be a money magnet.
