- 0:00Speaker 1: It's the Husker Buzz edition. We've got Sean Callahan here
- 0:03Speaker 1: live in Lincoln. Good morning, Sean.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Good morning, Scott.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Time to play football. Why does it seem like it's
- 0:08Speaker 1: been three weeks since Nebraska's played a football game?
- 0:12Speaker 2: Bi-weeks tend to do that, too. There's less, obviously, media
- 0:17Speaker 2: access during a bi-week, so things were just kind of
- 0:20Speaker 2: quiet here the last week. Washington comes in. It's a
- 0:25Speaker 2: massive game for Matt Rule, his tenure, his season. In
- 0:30Speaker 2: really these next three weeks, you have Washington, then back-to-back
- 0:34Speaker 2: road games at Illinois and at Rutgers. Nebraska has a
- 0:39Speaker 2: pretty good chance to win all three of these games.
- 0:42Speaker 2: If they did, it really kind of changes the tune
- 0:44Speaker 2: of the season for Nebraska. It starts Saturday, and I
- 0:47Speaker 2: think a big question will be at quarterback. Does DeMond
- 0:50Speaker 2: Williams return for Washington, or what direction they go there
- 0:53Speaker 2: at quarterback?
- 0:54Speaker 1: I've not been paying much attention to the Huskies this year.
- 0:57Speaker 1: What are they looking like coming into this game?
- 0:59Speaker 2: Well, they've had injuries, and they've underachieved. I mean, they
- 1:03Speaker 2: were a ranked team to start the year. A lot
- 1:06Speaker 2: of expectations for Jed Fish and his team to begin
- 1:10Speaker 2: the season, but they took some losses early in the year.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Iowa kind of went in there and just crushed their soul.
- 1:18Speaker 2: They went into Seattle on a Friday night. I think
- 1:21Speaker 2: the game was 27-0 at halftime in Seattle, which they
- 1:24Speaker 2: don't get beat like that at home very often. They
- 1:27Speaker 2: had a nice win at Purdue. which Purdue is an
- 1:30Speaker 2: improved team, Purdue v. Minnesota this year. That was their
- 1:33Speaker 2: last game out. They're off this week, too, so they
- 1:37Speaker 2: did not have a game like Nebraska. I think there
- 1:42Speaker 2: will be a few questions for them as well coming
- 1:44Speaker 2: off the bye. This is kind of what they look like.
- 1:47Speaker 2: they were going to have a really intense bye week.
- 1:49Speaker 2: He said it was going to be training camp the sequel.
- 1:53Speaker 2: They were going to run their team through a lot
- 1:56Speaker 2: of drills and a lot of hard work here in
- 1:57Speaker 2: the bye week.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Meanwhile, Dylan Raiola looked like a scarecrow for Oregon. And
- 2:04Speaker 1: Scott Frost gets a win against the number two team
- 2:06Speaker 1: in the country, a Central Florida beats BYU. So Husker
- 2:09Speaker 1: fans got a little bit of anguish leading up to
- 2:12Speaker 1: this game here. Talk about the wild weekend in college football.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's almost been like this now the
- 2:20Speaker 2: last couple weeks in a row. I think, Scott, now
- 2:23Speaker 2: that we play these nine-game conference schedules in the SEC
- 2:26Speaker 2: and the ACC and the Big 12s and the Big
- 2:29Speaker 2: 10s on it for a while, you've got more good-on-good games.
- 2:33Speaker 2: There's more parity with the NIL and transfer portal. And
- 2:37Speaker 2: this is what you get out of it. And, you know,
- 2:39Speaker 2: I think the travel, too, when you look at how
- 2:43Speaker 2: big some of these leagues are and the amount of
- 2:45Speaker 2: traveling you have to do, it's not easy for USC
- 2:48Speaker 2: to go play at Wisconsin. It's not easy for BYU
- 2:52Speaker 2: to play there. Notre Dame at home and travel to
- 2:55Speaker 2: Florida the next week and play. I just think there's
- 2:59Speaker 2: a lot of variables in this, but it's fun. It
- 3:02Speaker 2: really does add a lot of intrigue. I do think
- 3:05Speaker 2: this is a big reason why a lot of the
- 3:08Speaker 2: coaches and conferences want to move to a 2014 playoff
- 3:11Speaker 2: because it's too unpredictable now. There's not much separation and
- 3:16Speaker 2: there's going to be a mash of 9-3, 8-4 quality
- 3:18Speaker 2: teams every year And to separate those teams now moving
- 3:24Speaker 2: forward into a 12-team playoff would be tough. I think
- 3:27Speaker 2: a 24-team playoff makes that a lot easier and keeps
- 3:31Speaker 2: a lot more of those teams playing. I know it's
- 3:33Speaker 2: not popular by some, but I think weekends like what
- 3:36Speaker 2: we saw this weekend are reasons why we're going to
- 3:39Speaker 2: a 24-team playoff.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Saturday night game, blackout game for Halloween at Memorial Stadium.
- 3:44Speaker 1: It's going to be a fun atmosphere. It's going to
- 3:46Speaker 1: be tough for Washington to come in here and win.
- 3:48Speaker 1: But there are a lot of things Nebraska has to
- 3:50Speaker 1: do right. We'll talk about the keys to the game
- 3:53Speaker 1: on Friday. Tomorrow, Sean, I want to pick your brain
- 3:56Speaker 1: a little bit on weather coach rule. Some of the
- 3:59Speaker 1: coaching staff went out and did some good recruiting at
- 4:01Speaker 1: high school games over the weekend. We had some good
- 4:03Speaker 1: high school games over the weekend. We'll talk about that tomorrow,
- 4:06Speaker 1: shall we?
- 4:07Speaker 2: All right.
