Lucas: It really is. And since we've already learned numbers 1 through 20 in earlier episodes, I thought today we'd go a little further: numbers 21 to 30. Luna: Oh, that's perfect. I've been wanting to count higher. So 21 would be like 'twenty-one' in English? Lucas: Exactly. In Amharic, you say ሃያ አንድ — ሃያ is twenty, አንድ is one. So ሃያ አንድ. Luna: ሃያ አንድ. Twenty-one. Got it. Lucas: Good. Then 22 is ሃያ ሁለት. Twenty and two. Luna: ሃያ ሁለት. That's easy enough. Lucas: Right. Then 23: ሃያ ሦስት. Luna: ሃያ ሦስት. Lucas: Nice. 24: ሃያ አራት. Luna: ሃያ አራት. Lucas: 25: ሃያ አምስት. Luna: ሃያ አምስት. Lucas: 26: ሃያ ስድስት. Luna: ሃያ ስድስት. Lucas: 27: ሃያ ሰባት. Luna: ሃያ ሰባት. Lucas: 28: ሃያ ስምንት. Luna: ሃያ ስምንት. Lucas: 29: ሃያ ዘጠኝ. Luna: ሃያ ዘጠኝ. Lucas: And finally 30: ሰላሳ. Luna: ሰላሳ. That's a new word — doesn't follow the pattern. Lucas: Right, thirty is its own word in many languages. So let's practice a quick dialogue. Imagine you're at a market and you want to buy something that costs 27 birr. Luna: Okay, I'd say: ስንት ነው? — how much is it? Lucas: And the seller says: ሃያ ሰባት ብር ነው. Luna: ሃያ ሰባት ብር ነው. Twenty-seven birr. Lucas: Exactly. Now you try saying the whole thing: ask the price, then I'll respond with a number. Luna: ስንት ነው? Lucas: ሃያ አራት ብር ነው. Luna: Okay, that's 24 birr. Got it. Lucas: You're doing great. Let me say them all once more slowly. ሃያ አንድ, ሃያ ሁለት, ሃያ ሦስት, ሃያ አራት, ሃያ አምስት, ሃያ ስድስት, ሃያ ሰባት, ሃያ ስምንት, ሃያ ዘጠኝ, ሰላሳ. Luna: That's a lot. But I think I can do it.
