- 0:05Speaker 1: If our military becomes partisan, then our military is a
- 0:09Speaker 1: tool for all the wrong reasons in the hands of
- 0:12Speaker 1: all the wrong people.
- 0:13Speaker 2: You put your life on the line to fight extremists,
- 0:16Speaker 2: and now there are people within it that are calling
- 0:18Speaker 2: you an extremist.
- 0:19Speaker 1: We've got transitioning soldiers in our units. I've got a quota.
- 0:23Speaker 3: I need to meet a.
- 0:24Speaker 1: A certain number of women and men or a certain
- 0:26Speaker 1: number of minorities.
- 0:28Speaker 3: What are we doing here this? We're in the job
- 0:31Speaker 3: of kill or be killed.
- 0:35Speaker 2: I'm so excited about your new book, The War on Warriors.
- 0:38Speaker 2: You offer a perspective that so many infantry men, so
- 0:41Speaker 2: many service men and women, are wanting for people to understand,
- 0:46Speaker 2: but they don't have somebody be in a mouthpiece for them.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Because when you're in uniform, you can't talk.
- 0:51Speaker 1: I mean, you're defending everybody else's constitutional rights, but yours
- 0:54Speaker 1: are limited to say speak with the media or complain
- 0:57Speaker 1: publicly about what you're facing. Your friends and family might know,
- 1:00Speaker 1: but the media doesn't know, the public ri at large
- 1:02Speaker 1: don't know, and if politicians don't care or are not
- 1:05Speaker 1: willing to address it, and nothing changes. So I mean,
- 1:08Speaker 1: when I joined the army over twenty years ago. I
- 1:10Speaker 1: did it like so everybody else, because you love the
- 1:12Speaker 1: country and you want to do anything you can to
- 1:14Speaker 1: defend it. And the army I see today looks nothing
- 1:17Speaker 1: like the one I joined, and the one I joined
- 1:19Speaker 1: was perfect either. So I wrote The War on Warriors.
- 1:23Speaker 1: It's not a book about how the military went woke.
- 1:26Speaker 1: It's a book about how the military allowed itself.
- 1:29Speaker 3: To go woke.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I mean it's in this military is an institution with
- 1:32Speaker 1: a code. You swear allegiance to the constitution to defend it.
- 1:37Speaker 1: You believe your senior leaders will defend and make sure
- 1:39Speaker 1: you have everything you need, the training, the accountability, the excellence,
- 1:44Speaker 1: the lethality.
- 1:45Speaker 3: That's what It's an ultimate meritocracy.
- 1:48Speaker 1: And what we've seen under Obama and then fast forward
- 1:51Speaker 1: under Biden is an erosion of that meritocracy in pursuit
- 1:55Speaker 1: of social justice or social experiments that has created a
- 1:59Speaker 1: fragile military that is not as capable as people think.
- 2:03Speaker 3: We're an uncharted territory as a society.
- 2:05Speaker 1: This idea that we're trying to keep a republic while
- 2:07Speaker 1: simultaneously telling the young people of that republic that it's
- 2:10Speaker 1: a terrible country or irredeemably racist or misogynists. All of
- 2:14Speaker 1: those themes seep into the view that American young Americans have.
- 2:19Speaker 1: But the military for a long time had been this
- 2:22Speaker 1: incubator of excellence, this sort of resistant to all of
- 2:25Speaker 1: those cultural trends. Yes there were there have been changes
- 2:29Speaker 1: over time, but more or less, if you want to
- 2:32Speaker 1: not deal with all that garbage and just go defend
- 2:34Speaker 1: the nation, join the Marines, join the army.
- 2:36Speaker 3: And what you've seen, I mean, you see it now
- 2:38Speaker 3: in the recruiting shortfalls. Wow, you're right, this is uncharted territory.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Because every time, every every Memorial Day, every time that
- 2:45Speaker 2: I'm sitting there with American flags and we're singing God
- 2:49Speaker 2: Bless America and I'm remembering my grandfather, there's such a
- 2:52Speaker 2: sense of patriotism, such a sense of gratitude, and and
- 2:55Speaker 2: you know, the flybys and all of this stuff, and
- 2:58Speaker 2: I'm feeling just something different in the air now where
- 3:01Speaker 2: people are thinking like that's bad, and that's not really
- 3:05Speaker 2: something we should be getting excited about, and.
- 3:09Speaker 3: It is scary. It's evil jingoism or nationalism. The flag
- 3:14Speaker 3: is political.
- 3:15Speaker 1: I mean, I wore a flag on my shoulder when
- 3:18Speaker 1: I served under George Bush and Barack Obama and Donald Trump.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I mean, I volunteered to deploy to Afghanistan under Barack Obama,
- 3:25Speaker 1: a president who I disagreed with on everything, because it
- 3:29Speaker 1: wasn't political. It was about defending the nation. And we're
- 3:31Speaker 1: getting because of the purge that's come into our military.
- 3:34Speaker 1: And I use that word intentionally. There has been a
- 3:36Speaker 1: purge post COVID George Floyd during the Biden administration, a
- 3:41Speaker 1: purge of patriots. You've got a real reluctance of everyday
- 3:45Speaker 1: Americans to serve an institution if they don't feel like
- 3:48Speaker 1: it's going to serve them.
- 3:48Speaker 2: When I think of patriotism, I think of the military.
- 3:51Speaker 2: I don't just think of like patriotism, so I think
- 3:53Speaker 2: of schools and education, or I think of the church.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Although these are important institutions, the military is like inextricably
- 4:00Speaker 2: tied and connected with a sense of a vibrant patriotism
- 4:04Speaker 2: in a nation. But with these attacks on patriotism, calling
- 4:09Speaker 2: it Christian nationalism, what does a disdain for the US
- 4:13Speaker 2: military mean for the future of our culture?
- 4:17Speaker 1: Well, first of all, you were raised right, and that's
- 4:18Speaker 1: why you look at it that way. A disdain for
- 4:20Speaker 1: our military in the future of our culture means more
- 4:22Speaker 1: soldiers die.
- 4:24Speaker 3: And I mean that.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I mean when you when you uh impose DEI and
- 4:29Speaker 1: CRT and gender fluid standards into the military, you are
- 4:34Speaker 1: breeding a less capable military. You are you are giving
- 4:37Speaker 1: commanders less opportunity to train. You're giving them, uh there's
- 4:41Speaker 1: less accountability inside this.
- 4:45Speaker 3: I heard time and time again from leaders.
- 4:47Speaker 1: I'm walking on eggshells because I don't know what pronoun
- 4:50Speaker 1: you know I got. We've got transitioning soldiers in our units.
- 4:53Speaker 3: I've got a quota. I need to meet.
- 4:55Speaker 1: A certain number of women and men or a certain
- 4:58Speaker 1: number of minorities.
- 4:59Speaker 3: What do we do in here?
- 5:01Speaker 2: This?
- 5:01Speaker 1: We're in the job of kill or be killed. This
- 5:05Speaker 1: is this I'm giving you my son. You're gonna train
- 5:08Speaker 1: that my son, and then you're gonna play games with
- 5:11Speaker 1: social engineering inside the units, and you're gonna say, well,
- 5:14Speaker 1: we need more women in this unit, or we need
- 5:16Speaker 1: more of this in that unit, and you're gonna get
- 5:18Speaker 1: promoted because of this. And I'm telling you, if you
- 5:20Speaker 1: don't believe it, talk talk to someone who's.
- 5:22Speaker 3: Serving right now.
- 5:23Speaker 1: That's an abdication of the responsibility we have to those
- 5:28Speaker 1: who are willing to put their life on the line.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Your grandfather at the very least believed his leaders had
- 5:32Speaker 3: his best interests in mine.
- 5:34Speaker 1: And right now, from the White House down to this
- 5:36Speaker 1: Chairman of the Joint Chiefs to Secretary of Defense, they're
- 5:39Speaker 1: peddling gender nonsense, race nonsense that divides troops against each other,
- 5:46Speaker 1: environmental stuff, electric tanks, and things that are not useful
- 5:50Speaker 1: to warfighters. And then we're trying to recruit non conventional
- 5:54Speaker 1: people into the unit.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Because we're scared of all these patriot.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Extremists or Christian nationalists or plain old white guys that
- 6:01Speaker 1: wear cowboy hats. That's a dangerous spot to be in.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Fixing it's not difficult. Actually, if you have the right
- 6:08Speaker 1: commander in chief, we could talk about that. I mean,
- 6:10Speaker 1: it will be difficult, but the capture is more recent.
- 6:14Speaker 1: But it means that we are when we face that
- 6:17Speaker 1: next conflict, how ready will we be, How focused on
- 6:21Speaker 1: the right things will we be? And that's an open
- 6:23Speaker 1: question right now. And that's what And then you add
- 6:27Speaker 1: that to when that next come, let's say, the next
- 6:30Speaker 1: nine to eleven happens, who's protesting?
- 6:33Speaker 3: Are they protesting for us? Are they protesting that we
- 6:36Speaker 3: deserve it.
- 6:37Speaker 1: I mean, look at what's happening and outside college campuses,
- 6:39Speaker 1: like we have an upside down critical theory infection inside
- 6:44Speaker 1: the minds of young people, and that means the institutions
- 6:47Speaker 1: that we used to not question are now being threatened.
- 6:49Speaker 2: To your point, man, man, this is also sobering when
- 6:54Speaker 2: when a conflict happens, I want Navy seals out there,
- 6:57Speaker 2: I want Army rangers out there.
- 6:59Speaker 3: I want I want the real deal.
- 7:01Speaker 2: I don't want the purple Hair platoon fighting for us.
- 7:04Speaker 2: And yet what you're saying is that that is a
- 7:08Speaker 2: big part of the agenda is to get as much
- 7:10Speaker 2: of that into the military, and that is playing right
- 7:13Speaker 2: into the hands of those who hate us and would
- 7:16Speaker 2: like to annihilate us.
- 7:17Speaker 3: No doubt, no doubt.
- 7:19Speaker 1: I mean, and it's across the spectrum, right, I mean,
- 7:22Speaker 1: China wants TikTok for our kids, but not for theirs.
- 7:25Speaker 1: They want to infect our ability to defend ourselves. Now, thankfully,
- 7:28Speaker 1: there are great Navy seals, there are great Army rangers.
- 7:31Speaker 1: And there's still bad dudes willing to do bad. I mean,
- 7:34Speaker 1: there are there. I've met them, I've seen them. They're
- 7:35Speaker 1: still in there, right, our job is to make sure they.
- 7:38Speaker 3: Have a military they deserve and that we get the
- 7:40Speaker 3: other stuff out.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Yeah, because they want to do their job and they
- 7:43Speaker 1: will do it for us. And that's the good side
- 7:45Speaker 1: of this is there are plenty of great Americans out
- 7:47Speaker 1: there who want to join for the right set.
- 7:49Speaker 3: It's provocative.
- 7:50Speaker 2: On the very back of your book, you talk about
- 7:51Speaker 2: how twenty years ago you put your life on the
- 7:54Speaker 2: line to fight extremists, and now twenty years later, the
- 7:58Speaker 2: same army is infected with a virus and there are
- 8:03Speaker 2: people within it that are calling you an extremist because
- 8:06Speaker 2: you love the country and what it stands for.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I was labeled one. Literally, I deployed. I was in
- 8:12Speaker 1: the Washington, d c.
- 8:13Speaker 3: National Guard.
- 8:14Speaker 1: I was there during the George Floyd riots outside the
- 8:16Speaker 1: White House when the insurrection that tried to take out
- 8:18Speaker 1: Frump happened. I was there for the not the first night,
- 8:21Speaker 1: the next four held in a riot shield. It's surreal
- 8:25Speaker 1: to hold a riot shield with the White House lit
- 8:26Speaker 1: up behind you, with your fellow citizens in front of you.
- 8:29Speaker 1: We were there, and then the election happened, Joe Biden's,
- 8:33Speaker 1: then January sixth happened. Then Biden's inauguration is coming, and
- 8:37Speaker 1: so you know, remember all every National Guard unit in
- 8:40Speaker 1: America or the region was there, certainly the DC Guard.
- 8:44Speaker 1: So I had orders to go, and I'll never forget.
- 8:46Speaker 1: One day before I was supposed to go, I get
- 8:48Speaker 1: a call from a commander in the unit, Saint Pete,
- 8:51Speaker 1: you're good, your orders are revoked.
- 8:52Speaker 3: You can stand down. What do you mean I could
- 8:55Speaker 3: stand down?
- 8:55Speaker 1: Everybody's going. He's like, no, we're good, we don't need you.
- 8:58Speaker 1: And he wouldn't tell me why couldn't. But it was
- 9:01Speaker 1: pretty clear to me. I'm like, okay, why, why in
- 9:04Speaker 1: the world is everybody going but me? When I wrote
- 9:07Speaker 1: the book, I was able to talk to him again
- 9:09Speaker 1: and confirm one hundred percent that it was because they
- 9:12Speaker 1: had identified me as an extremist because of a Christian
- 9:16Speaker 1: tattoo I have on my chest, the Jerusalem Cross. I'm
- 9:19Speaker 1: sure you're familiar with it, only a Christian symbol. They
- 9:23Speaker 1: searched my Instagram and some uh, some folks identified it
- 9:27Speaker 1: and said no, he's an extremist, and the leadership of
- 9:31Speaker 1: the unit supported it, and they revoked my orders. Uh,
- 9:34Speaker 1: And so I got out. I didn't it if that
- 9:38Speaker 1: was happening. To me and was it? Was it because
- 9:40Speaker 1: of the tattoo?
- 9:40Speaker 3: Probably not?
- 9:41Speaker 1: Was it because I'm a Trump supporter? Maybe was it
- 9:43Speaker 1: because I work at Fox News? Maybe I don't know.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Any combination is the wrong answer. I've done three tours,
- 9:49Speaker 1: two tours, one tour in Irack and off guess another
- 9:51Speaker 1: tour one tam Obay for my nation, serving under Republicans
- 9:54Speaker 1: and Democrats, never about politics, and now you DM, I'm
- 9:57Speaker 1: an extremist.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Take that at the COVID.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Add similar purges that we saw, and it is a
- 10:05Speaker 1: I would call an assault on people of conscience inside
- 10:08Speaker 1: our military. Well, a lot of that comes down to
- 10:10Speaker 1: Christians or Conservatives, patriots, you know, you take that don't
- 10:15Speaker 1: tread on me flag. Can't have that bumper sticker on
- 10:18Speaker 1: your car on post anymore, can't have that flag.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Might be an extremist.
- 10:23Speaker 1: So there are so many silly ways renaming of basis
- 10:26Speaker 1: all of this. It is if our military becomes partisan,
- 10:32Speaker 1: then our military is a tool for all the wrong reasons,
- 10:35Speaker 1: in the hands of all.
- 10:36Speaker 3: The wrong people.
- 10:37Speaker 1: It has always been a nonpartisan, patriotic institution, and I fear.
- 10:42Speaker 3: We're on the verge of losing that.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Across the board you see in the book, you will
- 10:46Speaker 1: meet person after person and moment after moment where instead
- 10:49Speaker 1: of choosing standards accountability, meritocracy, and lethality, so called leaders
- 10:56Speaker 1: followed political ideologues in searts of social justice outcomes in
- 11:00Speaker 1: ways that made units less capable.
- 11:03Speaker 3: And that's the sin.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Explain this symbol on the cover of your book here,
- 11:08Speaker 2: it's an upside down American flag. What does that mean.
- 11:11Speaker 1: It's a universal symbol of duress, distress. You know, you've
- 11:15Speaker 1: seen it with people flying their flag. I flew my
- 11:17Speaker 1: flag upside down outside my house after the fall of Afghanistan.
- 11:21Speaker 1: I mean, it's just it's a reflect I did that
- 11:22Speaker 1: on purpose. Obviously, that's a combat patch. That's exactly the
- 11:25Speaker 1: type of combat patch I wore on my shoulder. I've
- 11:28Speaker 1: been proud to wear that patch my entire life. But
- 11:31Speaker 1: this institution is in duress.
- 11:33Speaker 2: You know. Sometimes you hear the phrase, you know, follow
- 11:36Speaker 2: the money, and that's a great way to track things
- 11:38Speaker 2: back to the you know, what is the source upstream
- 11:40Speaker 2: that's causing these things downstream? And if someone can get
- 11:43Speaker 2: get in control of the money, and they can get
- 11:45Speaker 2: in control of the power, the military power, there's so
- 11:48Speaker 2: much you can control what kind of evil people are
- 11:51Speaker 2: at the top, controlling generals to trickle down an ideology
- 11:55Speaker 2: that's just destroying morale, destroying the effectiveness of a military.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Is it, I mean, is it what we.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Think it is? Is it?
- 12:02Speaker 2: Is it really as awful and insidious as as we think?
- 12:07Speaker 1: It's leftists who want control, and the military was the
- 12:10Speaker 1: last vestige that they did not control. In ultimate meritocracy,
- 12:13Speaker 1: based on patriotism and love of country, you can control
- 12:16Speaker 1: other quarters of government fairly easily.
- 12:18Speaker 3: Obama's.
- 12:19Speaker 1: The Obamas were famously obsessed with the DoD visited the
- 12:22Speaker 1: Pentagon a lot, very particular about exactly who they appointed
- 12:25Speaker 1: into certain positions, inherently distrustful of the generals, and so
- 12:30Speaker 1: over time slowly filtered out your war fighters, break glass
- 12:34Speaker 1: in case of war types, and moved in Secretary of
- 12:37Speaker 1: the Navy, Secretary Army, who are political appointees, who then
- 12:41Speaker 1: pushed prerogatives down to generals. So once you're you're picking
- 12:44Speaker 1: your secretary Defense and your secretaries, they're setting the terms
- 12:49Speaker 1: of what's acceptable. Now if you're a uniform member underneath
- 12:52Speaker 1: that you either comply or you get out. And so
- 12:56Speaker 1: the ones willing to comply the sheep who're willing to
- 12:59Speaker 1: go along with, Oh yeah, yeah, women in combat, great idea,
- 13:01Speaker 1: Oh yeah, trans great idea.
- 13:02Speaker 3: Oh yeah, electric tanks, let's do that. Great. They get
- 13:05Speaker 3: promoted the PC lapdogs. So it takes a while.
- 13:09Speaker 1: But if you look at Obama, he would have done
- 13:11Speaker 1: a lot of these things right away if he could
- 13:12Speaker 1: in two thousand and nine, but he couldn't. So a
- 13:14Speaker 1: lot of the most radical things he did in the
- 13:16Speaker 1: military happened in twenty fourteen, twenty fifteen, and twenty sixty,
- 13:20Speaker 1: after he'd made the necessary personnel changes in order to
- 13:23Speaker 1: create an environment where he knew the military, which it's
- 13:27Speaker 1: DNA and its bones over two hundred and fifty years,
- 13:29Speaker 1: said no, was willing to be complicit in the erosion
- 13:33Speaker 1: of that institution.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Trump did what he could. I think there were a
- 13:37Speaker 3: lot of.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Generals who that just kind of went down into their
- 13:40Speaker 1: bunker and tried not to But the minute Biden came in,
- 13:44Speaker 1: it was just fast forward on everything Obama had been doing.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Pete, how do you think we can turn this around?
- 13:52Speaker 3: We can.
- 13:52Speaker 1: I wrote a book about education, one hundred year takeover Amazing,
- 13:55Speaker 1: And the problem with that one is is, yes, the
- 13:58Speaker 1: Department of Education controls a lot, but it's not centralized.
- 14:02Speaker 1: So if you want to make a change, you got
- 14:04Speaker 1: to do it in your community. You got to get
- 14:05Speaker 1: with your family. You've got to make a change. Go local,
- 14:07Speaker 1: like what you're doing at Libran. You've got to do it.
- 14:09Speaker 1: This is a top down institution, which gives me even
- 14:12Speaker 1: a little bit more hope that we can fix it.
- 14:14Speaker 1: A new commander in chief that comes in and says,
- 14:17Speaker 1: we're not doing this garbage anymore. Fires the Secretary Offense,
- 14:21Speaker 1: fires the chairman of the Joint Chiefs, brings in new chairmen,
- 14:23Speaker 1: new secretaries of the Army and the Air Force, the
- 14:25Speaker 1: Marine Corps. Now that person will be accused here it's Trump.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Oh you're doing a maga take There's no maga takeovers
- 14:31Speaker 1: going on here. We're just going back to how we
- 14:34Speaker 1: used to focus on the right things. See, it has
- 14:36Speaker 1: to be top down and bottom up, because the bottom
- 14:38Speaker 1: up's a problem too right now, Kirk, Because our military
- 14:40Speaker 1: academies are teaching the same woke ceur TV.
- 14:43Speaker 3: So you've got a.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Clean house there with your superintendents and professors, because there's
- 14:48Speaker 1: a good core in the middle, a good, honest God
- 14:50Speaker 1: fearing corp inside our military that wants to do the
- 14:52Speaker 1: right things, and you could get back pretty quick.
- 14:54Speaker 3: You could get the ethos that hey, this is ours
- 14:57Speaker 3: pretty quick.
- 14:58Speaker 1: There's things to change and procurement and everything, but that's
- 15:00Speaker 1: the baseline.
- 15:02Speaker 2: And I'm so glad that you have decided to talk
- 15:05Speaker 2: about education in your previous book and then you're talking
- 15:07Speaker 2: about military here in this book, because at the end
- 15:10Speaker 2: of the day, I think you have two competing ideologies.
- 15:13Speaker 2: You have you have secular humanist, atheist Marxist ideas that's
- 15:18Speaker 2: you're showing up in all the colors of the rainbow.
- 15:21Speaker 2: And then you've got a biblical worldview, which is the
- 15:26Speaker 2: root for the fruit of liberty, opportunity, equal rights, the
- 15:31Speaker 2: fruit of the spirit, and courage and all of these
- 15:33Speaker 2: kinds of things. And ultimately it's a battle between these
- 15:36Speaker 2: two ideologies. And that's where our faith comes in. How
- 15:39Speaker 2: did your time in the military impact you and your faith?
- 15:45Speaker 1: I mean, they the old adage is overused, but there
- 15:48Speaker 1: are no you know, atheists in foxholes is a is
- 15:51Speaker 1: a real thing. I mean, when you are when you
- 15:54Speaker 1: are stepping out on a mission, for example, in the
- 15:57Speaker 1: middle of the night and the air assault in bad
- 16:00Speaker 1: leading a platoon of forty men into Indian country, into
- 16:03Speaker 1: enemy country, and you're going to hit an al Qaeda
- 16:06Speaker 1: safe house for a mortar team that's been targeting your
- 16:09Speaker 1: unit and others across Bagdad, and you don't know what
- 16:12Speaker 1: to expect. You face mortality really fast, and you know
- 16:17Speaker 1: you're on bendinne pretty quick to say, hey, God, I
- 16:20Speaker 1: give this to you. I wouldn't say I would say
- 16:24Speaker 1: I was a head Christian more than a heart Christian in.
- 16:27Speaker 3: Service over there. But it was all there.
- 16:30Speaker 1: And I'll tell you one story during one unit when
- 16:34Speaker 1: we got we dropped in the long spot. We you know,
- 16:38Speaker 1: we're going to an enemy house. I'm in charge for
- 16:40Speaker 1: the first time, and I just remember we had dropped
- 16:43Speaker 1: in a mudfield. It was all going sideways, and I
- 16:46Speaker 1: remember having a sense of calm that I had no
- 16:48Speaker 1: business have. I mean, this is I went from a
- 16:52Speaker 1: Wall Street job in the National Guard to an infantry
- 16:55Speaker 1: unit in combat within six months. Like it was a
- 16:57Speaker 1: long story, but the call my felt. Yes, my men
- 17:01Speaker 1: were trained and we but it was it was it
- 17:04Speaker 1: was something else. And I'll never forget about two and
- 17:06Speaker 1: a half weeks later, calling home to my parents, and
- 17:10Speaker 1: my mom said to me, because you can't talk about
- 17:11Speaker 1: timing and locations when you're when you're in combat. She said, Pete,
- 17:15Speaker 1: I just want you to know, on such and such
- 17:17Speaker 1: a night, at this time, I felt just an overwhelming
- 17:21Speaker 1: urge to fall on my knees and pray for you.
- 17:23Speaker 1: And I get chills just sharing it. And I triangulated.
- 17:26Speaker 1: I asked her what time was that? And that was
- 17:28Speaker 1: the very moment we were in Wow, the rural areas
- 17:32Speaker 1: of bag Dad going toward an o KaiA safehouse in
- 17:36Speaker 1: the wrong.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Direction at first. Like, it's just the power of prayers
- 17:39Speaker 3: are a very real thing.
- 17:41Speaker 1: And I think I think of my company commander, who
- 17:43Speaker 1: was a great Christian who was an amazing leader for us.
- 17:47Speaker 1: I mean it it isn't It's also something that's under
- 17:50Speaker 1: assault too. I mean, chaplains and all that are are
- 17:53Speaker 1: something that they're eroding. But it's it's a It's always
- 17:57Speaker 1: been a bedrock of the American military, is that we
- 18:00Speaker 1: believe in something bigger than ourselves.
- 18:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Well, I know my grandfather, you know, he was he
- 18:05Speaker 2: was issued a Bible that they gave to him in
- 18:07Speaker 2: the military.
- 18:08Speaker 3: We got bibles, ye, Yeah, so many things like that.
- 18:12Speaker 2: Uh and and so much of that has changed, and
- 18:14Speaker 2: you've document so much of that in your book, and
- 18:17Speaker 2: you've you've been telling the stories of veterans for a
- 18:20Speaker 2: long time.
- 18:20Speaker 3: Why is that important to you?
- 18:22Speaker 1: The best education I ever got was from the salt
- 18:25Speaker 1: of the earth. Men, mostly men, some women, but mostly
- 18:27Speaker 1: men that I serve with, who reminded me what real.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Courage looks like, like, what real guts looks like.
- 18:36Speaker 1: And they never They're never going to sit on a
- 18:38Speaker 1: stage like this with a famous guy like you, with
- 18:40Speaker 1: cameras on all.
- 18:41Speaker 3: Over the place talking about it. And so I take.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Really seriously my responsibility to try to be their voice.
- 18:47Speaker 1: I get to wear makeup and talk on TV every
- 18:49Speaker 1: Saturday and Sunday morning on Foxing Friends, then I better
- 18:51Speaker 1: be really good at channeling you know, why, why what
- 18:55Speaker 1: direction our foreign policy is going in, or how we
- 18:57Speaker 1: use our military, or when that cop makes a tough
- 19:00Speaker 1: call in a moment's notice and everyone wants to second
- 19:03Speaker 1: guess it. Well, I've been in some moments where I've
- 19:05Speaker 1: had to make a tough call. Here's what you're going through,
- 19:07Speaker 1: And so I think of all those guys I sart
- 19:09Speaker 1: a lot. Anytime I give a speech, i do an event,
- 19:11Speaker 1: I'm thinking, Okay, how are they what lens are they
- 19:14Speaker 1: seeing this through that I can help people understand what
- 19:17Speaker 1: they're going through and respect the service that they gave,
- 19:20Speaker 1: because ultimately they pour into the next chapter of their life,
- 19:22Speaker 1: their next profession, and they might get a pat on
- 19:25Speaker 1: the back here or there, but they just hope that
- 19:28Speaker 1: their the legacy.
- 19:29Speaker 3: Of their service is respected. And that's what I try
- 19:32Speaker 3: to do.
