Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: We are up and running on this week seven preview
- 0:13Speaker 1: edition of birds weekly presented by the inside the birds network.
- 0:16Speaker 1: My man in his Sixers Jersey repping the 76 is
- 0:19Speaker 1: Barrett Brooks. I'm Derek gunning and be Brooks. You know,
- 0:23Speaker 1: this season is keeps going from bad to worse. You
- 0:25Speaker 1: mean injuries by multitudes. Now the franchise quarterback is gone
- 0:30Speaker 1: for the season and Now they've got to face the
- 0:33Speaker 1: Dallas Cowboys in front of a national audience on Monday night.
- 0:36Speaker 1: But the good news is Saquon is running back. But B,
- 0:40Speaker 1: this Eagles offense can't run the ball. Can Saquon make
- 0:44Speaker 1: that much of a difference behind this makeshift offensive line?
- 0:49Speaker 2: Well, I'm hoping that only– I'm hoping we get virtually
- 0:55Speaker 2: three-fifths of the starting line back.
- 0:57Speaker 3: I'm hoping.
- 0:58Speaker 2: That's what I'm hoping. I'm hoping that Landon Dixon comes back.
- 1:01Speaker 2: and Kendall comes back. If they come back, I think
- 1:04Speaker 2: it can make a major difference in whatever we try
- 1:06Speaker 2: to run as an offense. Dickerson at 80% is still
- 1:11Speaker 2: better than whatever they have. You know what I mean?
- 1:15Speaker 3: I can definitely say that.
- 1:17Speaker 2: It would be a lot better with Saquon back with
- 1:20Speaker 2: that offensive line as opposed to us looking at an
- 1:24Speaker 2: offensive line. Say what you want to say. I love
- 1:27Speaker 2: the way Willie Lampkin played But he's not Leonard Dickerson.
- 1:36Speaker 2: I saw that, you know, the center position is kind
- 1:39Speaker 2: of struggling, especially with snaps. And I think that was
- 1:42Speaker 2: a major point in the game that really messed us
- 1:45Speaker 2: up in this last game.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Well, Barrett, this Dallas defense is tailor-made to ail, to
- 1:54Speaker 1: heal what ails the Eagles offense.
- 1:56Speaker 3: I mean, they're 32nd overall.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Correction, 30th overall, 32nd, dead last against the run, 150
- 2:06Speaker 1: yards a game, and 25th in points allowed and 26.5.
- 2:13Speaker 1: We know, just like against Carolina, the Eagles should have
- 2:17Speaker 1: run the football. Right. But between Nick Sirianni and Sean Mannion,
- 2:24Speaker 1: I don't know what to expect from this offense anymore, Barrett.
- 2:26Speaker 1: I mean, always expect the unexpected with this offense. I mean,
- 2:30Speaker 1: that's The simplest way I can put it.
- 2:33Speaker 2: I know Christian Parker's like, man, it's a good thing
- 2:35Speaker 2: the Eagles can't run the ball either. So, I mean,
- 2:39Speaker 2: it was the same kind of situation they were facing
- 2:42Speaker 2: with the Panthers.
- 2:44Speaker 3: They can't stop the run. They stopped the run against us.
- 2:48Speaker 2: And I think both teams are looking at this like
- 2:51Speaker 2: this is a get-back game for both teams.
- 2:53Speaker 3: A get-back.
- 2:53Speaker 2: This is how we get back. Their defense needs to
- 2:56Speaker 2: play well. Our offense needs to play well. It's strength
- 3:00Speaker 2: against strength. And weakness against weakness. You know, and that's basically,
- 3:06Speaker 2: you know, what football is all about. Which strength is
- 3:09Speaker 2: going to override and make the difference in what each
- 3:14Speaker 2: team does right. So neither one of the teams are good.
- 3:17Speaker 2: But I will say this. It's not because of talent
- 3:21Speaker 2: that Dallas is not playing the way it's supposed to play.
- 3:24Speaker 2: They got plenty of talent. I think it's more so,
- 3:27Speaker 2: I don't think they respect Christian Parker anymore. as a
- 3:30Speaker 2: defensive coordinator. And because of that, he's young. First time
- 3:35Speaker 2: calling the defense, and he got some veteran players out there. Gary, Williams,
- 3:39Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying? Overshawn, all those guys are
- 3:42Speaker 2: veteran guys. So they're like, all right, you haven't showed
- 3:44Speaker 2: us enough to make us say, all right, we're going
- 3:47Speaker 2: to go out to war for you.
- 3:48Speaker 3: So we'll see. We'll see.
- 3:51Speaker 1: You know, you mentioned Christian Parker. He, at 34, he
- 3:55Speaker 1: is the youngest defensive coordinator in Dallas Cowboys history. his
- 4:00Speaker 1: first stint as a defensive coordinator. And it may end
- 4:02Speaker 1: before it really began because you look, Dallas spent, Jerry
- 4:06Speaker 1: Jones spent a lot of money on defense this offseason.
- 4:09Speaker 1: He absolutely did, yep. And again, let me emphasize, they're
- 4:13Speaker 1: ranked 30th. And only a few games into the season,
- 4:16Speaker 1: the Cowboys have called in reinforcements. They bring in defensive
- 4:19Speaker 1: coordinator Mike Pettin to oversee what Christian Parker is doing.
- 4:24Speaker 1: And Barrett, that's a red flag because anytime you bring
- 4:27Speaker 1: in outside help to overlook What's going on the inside?
- 4:31Speaker 1: That means the guy on the inside, man, his days
- 4:34Speaker 1: are on borrowed time right now.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Patton's one of those guys, he wants to come in
- 4:37Speaker 2: and have total control. He may say he's a senior
- 4:40Speaker 2: advisor right now, but he wants to have total control.
- 4:45Speaker 2: That's why he didn't get along while in Minnesota. That's
- 4:49Speaker 2: why he kind of left Minnesota, because of that. When
- 4:53Speaker 2: you have a young guy like that, having somebody look
- 4:56Speaker 2: over his shoulder, it's not good.
- 4:57Speaker 3: It's not good.
- 4:58Speaker 2: And when you think when the Eagles tried to do that,
- 5:01Speaker 2: it kind of worked in opposite. You know, Patricia, you know,
- 5:06Speaker 2: when he came in and took over for those couple
- 5:08Speaker 2: of games, it just went downhill.
- 5:10Speaker 1: So I'm.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Hoping it does do that. You know what I'm saying?
- 5:15Speaker 3: I hope they do do that.
- 5:16Speaker 2: I hope they go out and mess everything up by
- 5:19Speaker 2: having two, you know, you got two coaches.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Calling the game.
- 5:23Speaker 2: And when you have two coaches, that means you don't
- 5:25Speaker 2: have any coaches. So I'm hoping that, you know, that
- 5:27Speaker 2: works out. in our favor that they have a power
- 5:31Speaker 2: struggle within the organization. So I'm hoping that's the issue.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Why does Dak Prescott seem to have some of his
- 5:39Speaker 1: best career games against the Philadelphia Eagles? I mean, we
- 5:42Speaker 1: see it in professional sports across the board. A player
- 5:47Speaker 1: or a team always seems to shine against one individual team.
- 5:51Speaker 1: And in this case, it's always Dak against the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Well, you look at it, since Jalen Hurts has been starting,
- 5:57Speaker 2: was it like in 2020 or whatever?
- 5:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:59Speaker 2: And every time they've played together, played together on the
- 6:02Speaker 2: same field, I think the record's like three and two,
- 6:06Speaker 2: you know, head-to-head with Jalen Hurts. But good thing that
- 6:10Speaker 2: they're not playing head-to-head this time, you know what I mean?
- 6:13Speaker 2: So they're three out of the five. They won three
- 6:16Speaker 2: out of the five games that they played. It's Dallas, man.
- 6:22Speaker 2: It's Dallas week. I mean, it doesn't seem like Dallas
- 6:24Speaker 2: Week because we got so much other stuff going on
- 6:26Speaker 2: with the head coach talking about, you know, the quarterback
- 6:30Speaker 2: position and all the coordinators saying that, you know, he
- 6:34Speaker 2: can fix what's broken. It's just so many things going
- 6:37Speaker 2: on that it kind of overshadowed the fact that this
- 6:41Speaker 2: is Dallas Week.
- 6:43Speaker 3: That's one of the.
- 6:44Speaker 2: First things I got indoctrinated to when I first got
- 6:47Speaker 2: drafted back in 1995. I was indoctrinated in three things
- 6:51Speaker 2: when I first got here. Number one, you park in
- 6:54Speaker 2: the middle of the street on Broad Street.
- 6:57Speaker 3: You can do that.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Number two, the mafia is real. And then number three,
- 7:03Speaker 2: you got to hate Dallas. So, I mean, those are
- 7:06Speaker 2: three things I learned.
- 7:09Speaker 3: We'll see. We'll see.
- 7:11Speaker 1: So, you look at both of these teams at two
- 7:15Speaker 1: and four, and the first collision of the season is
- 7:18Speaker 1: on Monday night in Philadelphia. Okay. Jeffrey Lurie is being
- 7:21Speaker 1: honored at halftime, inducted into the Eagles Hall of Fame.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Fans in Philadelphia already frustrated by the losing franchise quarterbacks
- 7:32Speaker 1: gone for the season. Can you imagine, and I hate
- 7:35Speaker 1: to say it, but I got to bring it up.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Can you imagine if they lose on Monday night at
- 7:40Speaker 1: home on national TV with Jeffrey Lurie being inducted into
- 7:44Speaker 1: the team's Hall of Fame? Can you imagine the outpouring
- 7:47Speaker 1: of of anger from this fan base. If that happens.

- 9:24Speaker 4: It could be 30 degrees and I'll be out there
- 9:27Speaker 4: grilling burgers and steaks. But the one thing that I
- 9:30Speaker 4: really can't stand is losing my fish and my veggies
- 9:33Speaker 4: because they just can't grill without falling through. That's why
- 9:37Speaker 4: I've been using Hexclad's BBQ Collection. It's bringing hybrid technology

- 11:03Speaker 2: I don't even want to think about it, man. I
- 11:06Speaker 2: really don't because that'll be like the worst ever. And
- 11:10Speaker 2: I love Jeffrey Lurie. I was his first offensive lineman
- 11:14Speaker 2: he ever drafted. I was the third player he drafted.
- 11:17Speaker 2: You know, Mimoula went first. Me and Bobby T went
- 11:19Speaker 2: in the second round together. So I was the third
- 11:22Speaker 2: person he drafted. So I got a heart for him.
- 11:26Speaker 2: And for us to go into this, a Monday night game,
- 11:29Speaker 2: with the potential of losing. Because, I mean, I just
- 11:35Speaker 2: got to be realistic. The war of attrition is starting
- 11:37Speaker 2: to take over for the Eagles defense. They've had over
- 11:41Speaker 2: 70 snaps the last three games.
- 11:43Speaker 3: Over 70 snaps.
- 11:45Speaker 2: You think that you can be a great defense for
- 11:48Speaker 2: three quarters, but then lose it all in the fourth quarter.
- 11:52Speaker 2: The offense has got to help them out. And I
- 11:55Speaker 2: think the way that you do that, you've got to
- 11:56Speaker 2: have better production on first and second down. Stop with
- 12:01Speaker 2: all the negative plays. I mean, even production on first down.
- 12:04Speaker 2: I don't care if it's two yards. At least you've
- 12:07Speaker 2: got some positivity. They're always jumping on sides, doing something stupid.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Next thing you know, it's a touchdown. A minus play?
- 12:14Speaker 2: I mean, the first play of the game last week
- 12:17Speaker 2: was a 12-yard sack. They've got to get something going.
- 12:21Speaker 2: I mean, I can remember playing. We had a first 15.
- 12:24Speaker 2: And those first 15 were the best plays we had.
- 12:27Speaker 2: And usually that's where we had all the production, on
- 12:29Speaker 2: those first 15 plays. If the first 15 plays is
- 12:33Speaker 2: your best, that's why we'd be getting our ass kicked
- 12:36Speaker 2: from the third quarter on.
- 12:38Speaker 3: That's the problem. Because the best plays weren't working. So, ah.
- 12:46Speaker 2: I would be truly disappointed if they don't go in
- 12:49Speaker 2: with a better mindset against Dallas.
- 12:51Speaker 3: You know what I mean? I just think they need to.
- 12:54Speaker 1: I want to see a variation in his offense. And
- 12:59Speaker 1: I don't know how many times that we've said that.
- 13:02Speaker 1: I mean, okay, Tanner McKee, he got his indoctrination against Carolina.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Yes.
- 13:09Speaker 1: I want to see some three- to five-step drops, rhythm passing.
- 13:13Speaker 1: I want to see more crossing routes. You know, I
- 13:16Speaker 1: want to see better blocking up front, zone blocking up
- 13:19Speaker 1: front in the running game. I want to see an
- 13:23Speaker 1: evolving of this offense. Okay, I understand you have a
- 13:26Speaker 1: change in the guard and quarterbacks, which means play calling
- 13:30Speaker 1: is going to be a little bit different because, you know,
- 13:32Speaker 1: Tanner is not Jalen.
- 13:34Speaker 3: It better be different.
- 13:35Speaker 1: It's got to be different because they've been running the
- 13:38Speaker 1: same doggone thing with Tanner that they ran with Jalen.
- 13:43Speaker 3: And you can't do that. You can't do it.
- 13:44Speaker 2: You have to customize your plays around the talent that
- 13:49Speaker 2: you have. There's never been a system that's just all-encompassing
- 13:55Speaker 2: and everybody can run and have success. You have to
- 13:58Speaker 2: run the system to put your guys that you have
- 14:02Speaker 2: on the field in the best position you can. You
- 14:04Speaker 2: can't run an offense like you had the best offensive
- 14:07Speaker 2: line in the world.
- 14:13Speaker 3: If your best offensive line is not your offensive line
- 14:15Speaker 3: is out there.
- 14:16Speaker 2: It doesn't make sense to think that you can run
- 14:18Speaker 2: the same plays that they ran in his office. Just
- 14:21Speaker 2: like it doesn't make sense that QB number one plays
- 14:24Speaker 2: have been played by Tanner McKee. Totally different athlete, totally
- 14:27Speaker 2: different skill set. They bring different things to the table.
- 14:32Speaker 2: So you have to put an offense that really brings
- 14:37Speaker 2: out what his strong suits are. That's getting to the line.
- 14:44Speaker 2: from shotgun, diagnosing the play, seeing what's going on around them.
- 14:48Speaker 2: If they're going to try to blitz, give them the
- 14:50Speaker 2: time to say, all right, I'm going to check to this.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Because when they did, I saw him do one play
- 14:55Speaker 2: in the second half, and it worked. He hit him
- 14:59Speaker 2: on the blitz first down. But you got to make
- 15:02Speaker 2: sure you give them those type of plays. Give them
- 15:05Speaker 2: a chance to do it. And as far as running
- 15:07Speaker 2: the ball, if we get Saquon back, I don't.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Care what we run. Just run it.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Just run it.
- 15:14Speaker 3: It don't matter. It don't matter.
- 15:16Speaker 2: He's going to be evil in this game. He's going
- 15:18Speaker 2: to want to hurt somebody in this game. So just
- 15:20Speaker 2: give him a rock, man.
- 15:21Speaker 4: Okay, you know those pieces in your closet that you
- 15:24Speaker 4: find yourself wearing on repeat. There's the sweater that goes

- 18:16Speaker 1: I think that's going to be probably the most closely
- 18:20Speaker 1: watched matchups of the evening. Right.
- 18:24Speaker 2: That's where it's all going to be. And I'm going
- 18:25Speaker 2: to tell you the truth. I can definitely say that
- 18:28Speaker 2: they're going to try to put CeeDee Lamb on, at
- 18:33Speaker 2: this point, Cooper DeJean. He hasn't played well enough to
- 18:36Speaker 2: think that we can go out there and put him
- 18:37Speaker 2: one-on-one with him. And that's what they're going to try
- 18:40Speaker 2: to do. They're going to try to, you know... have
- 18:42Speaker 2: that matchup as a key matchup. That's what everybody's doing.
- 18:45Speaker 2: They're getting matchups with us where they motion and see
- 18:49Speaker 2: that this defense bumps over and they get one of
- 18:52Speaker 2: their best receivers or fast receivers lined up on a linebacker.
- 18:56Speaker 2: And it's been working. Teams have been killing us with that.
- 19:00Speaker 2: So we've got to figure out a way of stopping
- 19:03Speaker 2: this and really stopping the bleeding when they find a
- 19:06Speaker 2: matchup and we can counter that matchup that they found.
- 19:09Speaker 3: We're just not doing it.
- 19:12Speaker 1: All right, B, who do you like in this game?
- 19:13Speaker 1: And give me a score.
- 19:17Speaker 3: I don't like Dallas. I don't like the Eagles. But
- 19:26Speaker 3: I'm going to say this.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Because I feel as though this is a year, I mean,
- 19:31Speaker 2: this is a week that Tanner McKee is a starter.
- 19:35Speaker 2: And even though in practice, you know, three guys, three
- 19:39Speaker 2: important guys didn't practice today. Devontae Smith, Wicks and Goddard
- 19:44Speaker 2: didn't practice. Now, I don't know if they're going to
- 19:45Speaker 2: play in the game, and I'm hoping they play in
- 19:47Speaker 2: the game. But since those three... if they can play
- 19:50Speaker 2: in the game, and we do get Saquon Barkley back,
- 19:53Speaker 2: and Pete Carroll's playing center, and we've got Leonard Dickerson,
- 19:57Speaker 2: I got to go with the Eagles being able to
- 19:59Speaker 2: at least stay on the field for more than just
- 20:02Speaker 2: three and out.
- 20:03Speaker 3: So I'm going to go with the Eagles on that,
- 20:04Speaker 3: and I'm going to make it real close. I'm going
- 20:06Speaker 3: to say I'm going to say they're going to score
- 20:11Speaker 3: some points.
- 20:12Speaker 2: I'm going to say 28, 24 birds went.
- 20:18Speaker 1: You think the Eagles can score 28 points?
- 20:21Speaker 3: I'm going out on a limb. They've been averaging 17.7.
- 20:25Speaker 1: I'm going out on a limb, yes. Well, based on
- 20:28Speaker 1: what you just said, and that's asking a lot to
- 20:31Speaker 1: have all those people come back at the same time.
- 20:33Speaker 1: But if that does happen, I like the Eagles odds
- 20:35Speaker 1: at home, and I'm going to pick the Eagles just
- 20:37Speaker 1: because I hate the Dallas Cowboys that much. So I'm
- 20:40Speaker 1: going to say the birds snapped is losing streak 21
- 20:43Speaker 1: to 20. I think Jake Elliott hits a game winning
- 20:46Speaker 1: field goal to seal the deal for the Eagles. So
- 20:48Speaker 1: let's say 23, 20, 20. There we go. Eagles win.
- 20:52Speaker 4: All right.
- 20:54Speaker 1: All right, that's going to do it for my man,
- 20:56Speaker 1: Barrett Brooks. I'm Derek Gunn. This has been the week
- 20:59Speaker 1: seven preview of the Eagles against the Dallas Cowboys on
- 21:03Speaker 1: Birds Weekly. Keep your fingers crossed, everybody. Got to have
- 21:06Speaker 1: some good luck. Black cloud over this team has to
- 21:08Speaker 1: dissipate at some point. We'll talk to you next week.
- 21:12Speaker 3: Yes, sir.
