- 0:39Speaker 1: Meadows and I.
- 0:41Speaker 2: So much? I mean I wanted to call you guys
- 0:43Speaker 2: from the beach on the tape. You know, I was
- 0:46Speaker 2: going to call in. Let's just do our you know,
- 0:48Speaker 2: let's do our weekly hit from the beach.
- 0:50Speaker 1: You know, Hey, did your you have four boys? Right?
- 0:55Speaker 2: Uh? Yeah? I have a fifth on the way of
- 0:57Speaker 2: this month too, by the way, so we're getting even
- 1:00Speaker 2: crazier over here.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I thought we had a vasectomy conversation a while back.
- 1:05Speaker 2: I didn't listen.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Oh okay, all right, so so you're now going to
- 1:10Speaker 1: have a basketball team. Uh you've got four we Uh like,
- 1:15Speaker 1: how how much energy did you exert on a daily basis.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Having four boys at the beach step.
- 1:24Speaker 2: So it's actually good because they all play with each other,
- 1:26Speaker 2: so they all entertain each other. They're at the stage
- 1:29Speaker 2: where you know, in the neighborhood here too, they run
- 1:31Speaker 2: off and play baseball with their friends. It's actually good.
- 1:34Speaker 2: They're all entertaining each other. Now we're gonna reset things
- 1:37Speaker 2: with the baby that the baby's gonna need all the
- 1:39Speaker 2: energy at this point, I think.
- 1:42Speaker 1: All right, let's let's get into some minute. I gotta
- 1:45Speaker 1: ask you about Breeze for I cannot you by the way, congratulations,
- 1:49Speaker 1: I mean, do you do you is it a do
- 1:52Speaker 1: you know if it's a boy or a girl?
- 1:54Speaker 2: Yeah, it's another boy.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Unbelievable fun boys. All right, so you do have a
- 2:00Speaker 1: basketball team. Okay, let's go to Drew Brees in the
- 2:04Speaker 1: modern era. I mean, let's just say in the two thousands,
- 2:07Speaker 1: from two thousand to today, is Drew Brees without a doubt,
- 2:13Speaker 1: a top five QB for you.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I mean I always I always look at
- 2:18Speaker 2: this era as I mean, mahomes will start to change
- 2:21Speaker 2: things a little bit, or Josh Allen is you know,
- 2:24Speaker 2: might be able to change things a little bit, But
- 2:25Speaker 2: I always look at that era as Brady, Manning, Rogers,
- 2:28Speaker 2: and Breeze, and I think they were always the four
- 2:32Speaker 2: elite quarterbacks. I think they were a step above the
- 2:36Speaker 2: other tiers of quarterbacks, you know, the Ben Roethlisberger's, Philip Rivers,
- 2:40Speaker 2: Matt Ryan, Andrew Luck, Russell Wilson, that group, Matthew Stafford
- 2:44Speaker 2: you know at points in his career because he's been
- 2:47Speaker 2: around for a while. But yeah, at Breeze absolutely in
- 2:50Speaker 2: that top echelon of elite quarterbacks during that era. And yeah,
- 2:54Speaker 2: it's good to see him get the Hall of Fame
- 2:57Speaker 2: accolades this weekend.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Absolutely, if you could pinpoint one thing that separated him
- 3:03Speaker 1: or made him special, Drew Brees, what would it be
- 3:07Speaker 1: for you, Steve?
- 3:08Speaker 2: So I'll give you two answers here, because a lot
- 3:11Speaker 2: of people would just say the accuracy and completion percentage
- 3:14Speaker 2: is not necessarily a proxy for accuracy. But in Breeze's case,
- 3:18Speaker 2: I think it was so the high completion percentage, the
- 3:20Speaker 2: fact that he was pinpoint everything was well timed, well placed.
- 3:26Speaker 2: I think that would be the first thing. I'll give
- 3:27Speaker 2: you the other one. A few years back, when I
- 3:30Speaker 2: was at pff. We started to chart different things and
- 3:33Speaker 2: tried to say, Okay, where are the quarterback's eyes at
- 3:36Speaker 2: the top of his dropback. Is he looking to one
- 3:39Speaker 2: side of the field and then throwing it there? Is
- 3:42Speaker 2: he starting on one side of the field and then
- 3:43Speaker 2: throwing it to the other side of the field, in
- 3:45Speaker 2: other words, getting to maybe a second or third read.
- 3:48Speaker 2: So we tried to chart that just to see how
- 3:50Speaker 2: quarterbacks operated, to find if there was any information there.
- 3:54Speaker 2: And Breeze when you would chart him, everyone else would
- 3:57Speaker 2: like get to the top of the drop they'd looked
- 3:59Speaker 2: to the right and throw it, or they'd look back
- 4:01Speaker 2: to the left. Brees would like break the way we
- 4:05Speaker 2: were trying to calculate this thing because his eyes were
- 4:08Speaker 2: all over the place, and it was like on purpose.
- 4:11Speaker 2: So if he knew he was going to throw to
- 4:13Speaker 2: the right, he would just give a little peak to
- 4:16Speaker 2: the left. He just give a little peak to the
- 4:18Speaker 2: other side of the field just in case, you know,
- 4:20Speaker 2: it felt like, hey, if you know, maybe there's a
- 4:22Speaker 2: busted coverage or maybe there's something I'm missing there. But
- 4:24Speaker 2: he knew where he was going, he would be able
- 4:27Speaker 2: to see the whole field, which most quarterbacks can't do.
- 4:30Speaker 2: You know, they're locked into one side and then they
- 4:31Speaker 2: have to come all the way back to the other.
- 4:33Speaker 2: But he would see the whole field. He would almost
- 4:36Speaker 2: cheat a little bit with his eyes, and it also
- 4:38Speaker 2: keeps defenders off of him. That was a really subtle
- 4:41Speaker 2: thing I thought that Brees did in addition to the
- 4:43Speaker 2: accuracy that helped make him so successful.
- 4:46Speaker 1: I love it. That's cool. Right there, we're talking about
- 4:50Speaker 1: Drew Brees, his eyes, his vision and going through his progressions.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Brought to you by eyecare professionals and doctor Kirk Jeffries
- 4:57Speaker 1: with two locations on Lakeland Drive, the lead in cataract surgery.
- 5:01Speaker 1: All right, did anybody or maybe he was Tad, was
- 5:05Speaker 1: anybody during this era as good as Breeze going through
- 5:09Speaker 1: his progressions?
- 5:13Speaker 2: I mean, you'd look at Brady and Manning were obviously
- 5:15Speaker 2: at that at that type of level, but they all
- 5:18Speaker 2: did it differently, you know. I think this is a
- 5:21Speaker 2: good distinction. I think between those three guys. Rogers was
- 5:23Speaker 2: a little bit more physically talented as far as you know,
- 5:27Speaker 2: relied on his arm more than some of those other guys.
- 5:30Speaker 2: But I think Brady, Manning and Breeze were similar in
- 5:32Speaker 2: how they operate, how they got there, but like how
- 5:36Speaker 2: they operated, but how they got there was different. You know.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Peyton was the line of scrimmage maestro where he's like, hey,
- 5:42Speaker 2: I've got two or three plays, and it was like
- 5:46Speaker 2: playing blackjack with with with Peyton, where it was hey,
- 5:49Speaker 2: I know the odds that you're going to play too
- 5:51Speaker 2: high or cover two, and because it's sixty percent, I'm
- 5:55Speaker 2: going to get to my too high beater, or I'm
- 5:57Speaker 2: going to have a play where if you roll to
- 5:59Speaker 2: single high, I know where the answer is. I think
- 6:01Speaker 2: Breeze did that. You know, the eye manipulation and you
- 6:03Speaker 2: know the quick decide, you know decisions. And I think
- 6:06Speaker 2: Brady was more more see it, confirm it, and then
- 6:11Speaker 2: let it go. So he knew. Brady knew where to go,
- 6:14Speaker 2: but he likes to They liked a lot of option
- 6:16Speaker 2: routes in their offense. He'd liked to say, all right,
- 6:18Speaker 2: let me show me where you're going to go, receiver,
- 6:21Speaker 2: make sure we're on the same page, let me confirm it,
- 6:22Speaker 2: and then I'll zip it in there with accuracy. So
- 6:25Speaker 2: I think they all had that line of scrimmage mastery,
- 6:28Speaker 2: that post snap mastery. They all kind of got there
- 6:31Speaker 2: slightly different ways though, But those those three guys were
- 6:34Speaker 2: in a different league when it came to reading defenses,
- 6:37Speaker 2: knowing what they were doing, and and just always having
- 6:39Speaker 2: an answer to what the defense is through at them.
- 6:42Speaker 1: And then we talk. We're visiting with Steve Palozillo. He
- 6:45Speaker 1: had the NFL Podcast of the Year. He joins us
- 6:47Speaker 1: on the Farm Bureau Insurance guest line as we take
- 6:50Speaker 1: a look at and celebrate Drew Brees's career, brought to
- 6:54Speaker 1: you by I Care Professionals and doctor Kirk Jeffries Onkeland Drive. Soho,
- 7:02Speaker 1: you know, we talk about Sean and Drew together when
- 7:07Speaker 1: you and your whether it's PFF or now, Steve, how
- 7:11Speaker 1: do y'all factor in whether or not you have a
- 7:12Speaker 1: big time coach during your playing days, because Sean, I mean,
- 7:19Speaker 1: I think you would agree with this that Sean is
- 7:20Speaker 1: one of the best play callers. May not be the best,
- 7:25Speaker 1: and maybe that's Andy Reid, whatever, but Sean's one of
- 7:27Speaker 1: the top ten or so play callers in the last
- 7:29Speaker 1: twenty five years in the NFL. Is that fair, Steve?
- 7:33Speaker 2: Oh? Absolutely, Look, It's NFL analysis is difficult at times
- 7:38Speaker 2: because the quarterback has such a big impact, and you
- 7:41Speaker 2: don't get to see coaches with multiple quarterbacks all that often.
- 7:44Speaker 2: You know, Andy Reid had a lot of success before
- 7:47Speaker 2: Patrick Mahomes, and then you get Mahomes and it just
- 7:49Speaker 2: takes it to a new level. We've talked about Kyle
- 7:52Speaker 2: Shanahan of Son. He's had a lot of different quarterbacks,
- 7:54Speaker 2: so you wouldn't say are the most talented guys, and
- 7:56Speaker 2: he gets production out of all of them. Sean Payton,
- 7:58Speaker 2: I think we're just starting to learn more about how
- 8:00Speaker 2: good he is though, because he easily could have just
- 8:03Speaker 2: been a product of Drew Brees. And I think I'd
- 8:05Speaker 2: like to live in a world where two things can
- 8:07Speaker 2: be true. Breeze is a first ballot Hall of Famer
- 8:09Speaker 2: and incredible, but he also was paired with a great
- 8:11Speaker 2: coach and Sean Payton, and they were going together for
- 8:14Speaker 2: a long time, right. And Peyton's also proving, Hey, when
- 8:17Speaker 2: Breeze was hurt, he can win with Teddy Bridgewater or
- 8:20Speaker 2: Trevor Simeon or Jamis Winston. And now he's proving that
- 8:23Speaker 2: he can win with bow Nicks and develop a rookie quarterback.
- 8:26Speaker 2: You know, heading into into year three, so we're learning
- 8:29Speaker 2: more about Peyton because you you know, when you have
- 8:32Speaker 2: that many years, you know, fifteen years with Drew Brees,
- 8:34Speaker 2: it's like, well, can he do it without Breeze as
- 8:36Speaker 2: the head coach? And I think Peyton is showing that
- 8:39Speaker 2: he can do that. And then yeah, Peyton was was
- 8:42Speaker 2: really good. You know, he had his his things that
- 8:45Speaker 2: he leaned into big slot receiver like Marcus Colston or
- 8:48Speaker 2: you know, having a deep threat way back like a
- 8:50Speaker 2: Debaree Henderson or if you know, if he had Michael Thomas,
- 8:53Speaker 2: all right, we're gonna work him over the middle of
- 8:55Speaker 2: the field on short stuff because his hands and route
- 8:57Speaker 2: running are so good. So I think Peyton was able
- 8:59Speaker 2: to adjust toferent styles. But he was really good from
- 9:02Speaker 2: a personnel perspective finding players that fit into that offense
- 9:05Speaker 2: to pair with Breeze. And I think it was a
- 9:07Speaker 2: great combination. Both guys, what.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Do you value more now that you've been doing this
- 9:12Speaker 1: for over a decade with the quarterback? I know, we
- 9:15Speaker 1: love guys that can throw the deep ball and exposive
- 9:18Speaker 1: plays change the game and they flip the field. But
- 9:22Speaker 1: if you take a season start to finish step like
- 9:26Speaker 1: all seventeen games. Do you value somebody who is just
- 9:32Speaker 1: a surgeon like Breeze, Manning and Brady that are unbelievable
- 9:37Speaker 1: gaming game out in the short and intermediate passing game
- 9:42Speaker 1: over someone who's high level. Some of them can do
- 9:45Speaker 1: it all. But the deep ball, how do you see it?
- 9:48Speaker 1: How do you chart it?
- 9:49Speaker 2: I mean, I think if your elite overall, I mean,
- 9:52Speaker 2: if you an elite is it's not making one throw
- 9:56Speaker 2: or two throws, it's doing it week after week. It
- 9:59Speaker 2: doesn't it doesn't matter how you get there. I don't
- 10:01Speaker 2: think I would say you could make the case that
- 10:05Speaker 2: like a Mahomes or Allen or maybe Lamar who used
- 10:08Speaker 2: their legs as a lot more than Breeze, Brady Manning,
- 10:12Speaker 2: the guys who use their legs might not slump as much.
- 10:15Speaker 2: You know, if they're off throwing the ball, they could
- 10:17Speaker 2: still pick up sixty yards on the ground, or you know,
- 10:20Speaker 2: you have a keeper scrambled drill, whatever it may be
- 10:23Speaker 2: to keep the defense off balance. You can make that argument,
- 10:26Speaker 2: but I use the phrase all the time back in
- 10:28Speaker 2: the day, how do you attack Tom Brady or how
- 10:32Speaker 2: do you attack Drew Brees? Like what's the game plan?
- 10:34Speaker 2: Because it doesn't matter if you say, well, let's take
- 10:37Speaker 2: away this, well, he could do that. You know, you
- 10:40Speaker 2: can't just take away the short stuff. They could zip
- 10:42Speaker 2: it up the scene or throw the ball deep. You
- 10:44Speaker 2: can't just take away the deep stuff and build dink
- 10:46Speaker 2: and donkey to death all the way down the field.
- 10:48Speaker 2: So the best quarterbacks, I think the best offense is
- 10:52Speaker 2: the best quarterbacks just have answers. And I think all
- 10:55Speaker 2: those elite quarterbacks and you could throw Alan Mahomes into
- 10:57Speaker 2: that bucket, they have answers to whatever the defense is
- 11:01Speaker 2: throwing at you. And whether Breeze Brady Manning did it
- 11:05Speaker 2: stylistically different than a lot of today's quarterbacks. Yeah, that's
- 11:09Speaker 2: that's true. But they'd have plenty of success in today's
- 11:11Speaker 2: NFL just because the guy who down run a little
- 11:13Speaker 2: bit more. They would be perfectly fine. You know, they'd
- 11:17Speaker 2: have no problem reading defenses, finding the open man. So
- 11:20Speaker 2: once you're at that level and you don't have specific weaknesses,
- 11:24Speaker 2: it's so tough to game plan. And you just I
- 11:26Speaker 2: used to say, look, how are you going to stop
- 11:27Speaker 2: Drew Brees. You hope he has an off day, You
- 11:29Speaker 2: hope he throws one into coverage. You hope that he
- 11:32Speaker 2: misses a couple throws. There's no specific game plan against
- 11:35Speaker 2: those those high end, elite quarterbacks.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Steve Palzola his show check the Mic, He's had the
- 11:41Speaker 1: NFL podcast of the year. He joins us on the
- 11:43Speaker 1: Out of Bounds Show, brought to you by I Care
- 11:45Speaker 1: Professionals and doctor Kirk Jeffries with two locations on Lakeland Drove.
- 11:51Speaker 1: All right, let's switch gears here. Who's the next guy?
- 11:55Speaker 1: Who's the next quarter You mentioned Mahomes and Josh Allen
- 11:59Speaker 1: and those guys we've watched the last could be five years,
- 12:04Speaker 1: some going on almost ten for Steve Palazola, Who's the
- 12:11Speaker 1: next guy?
- 12:12Speaker 2: Steve, I think you have to look at the all
- 12:17Speaker 2: the third year quarterbacks. So like I when I look
- 12:20Speaker 2: at the quarterbacks, I got Mahomes, Allen maybe in their
- 12:23Speaker 2: own world. And Mahomes has a big test this year.
- 12:26Speaker 2: You know, if he has another mediocre year production wise,
- 12:28Speaker 2: it's like that's four straight and I know the situation
- 12:31Speaker 2: hasn't been what it was. But maybe he was slightly
- 12:34Speaker 2: overrated early in his career with Tyreek Hill and Travis
- 12:37Speaker 2: Kelsey both in their prime. Maybe he's overrated statistically and
- 12:41Speaker 2: set this unrealistic standard, and he's still great, and he's
- 12:45Speaker 2: still you know, got three super Bowls, But Mahomes and
- 12:48Speaker 2: Allen Lamar is gonna do it a little a little
- 12:51Speaker 2: bit more consistently. The hell thing same with Burrow. But
- 12:53Speaker 2: I think the next quarterback you're looking at is you know,
- 12:57Speaker 2: Justin Herbert always has this what if in him. But
- 13:01Speaker 2: the twenty twenty four draft class of Drake May, Caleb Williams,
- 13:07Speaker 2: Jaden Daniels, I think you could make arguments for any
- 13:11Speaker 2: of those three quarterbacks being the best of that class
- 13:14Speaker 2: and or at least, you know, going forward, maybe not
- 13:17Speaker 2: to this point. And then if Broncos fans are listening
- 13:20Speaker 2: to you, they'd start streaming at me that bo Nix
- 13:22Speaker 2: is there because he's got the most wins and the
- 13:24Speaker 2: most touchdowns.
- 13:25Speaker 1: I don't think he's there. I mean, I think he's
- 13:27Speaker 1: done a good job, but I don't think he's there. Step.
- 13:31Speaker 2: I'm just telling you, Broncos fans very sensitive because you
- 13:33Speaker 2: could pull We live in a golden age where you
- 13:35Speaker 2: could find any stat to make your point, no doubt,
- 13:38Speaker 2: and so they'll just say, well, he's got the most
- 13:40Speaker 2: touchdowns passing touchdown to a tim which is not a
- 13:43Speaker 2: good way of doing things. But you know, Drake May
- 13:45Speaker 2: was almost MVT last year in year two, and he
- 13:47Speaker 2: might have even better weapons with aj Brown Romeo Dobbs.
- 13:51Speaker 2: So Drake May has a chance to you know, put
- 13:53Speaker 2: together another high end season and be in that mix
- 13:56Speaker 2: Jade and Daniels maybe had the best season out of
- 13:59Speaker 2: all those guys in his rookie year given the circumstances,
- 14:02Speaker 2: taking that team to the NFC Championship, and took a
- 14:05Speaker 2: little step back last year. It's got to get healthy,
- 14:08Speaker 2: stay healthy. But Jayden Daniels has all the ability in
- 14:11Speaker 2: the world to be a consistent, consistent star. And then
- 14:14Speaker 2: Taylor Williams made great strides last year. You know, throw
- 14:17Speaker 2: for throw might not be as good as those other
- 14:18Speaker 2: guys who'll miss a few too many for my liking,
- 14:21Speaker 2: but man, if he tightens up some of the quote
- 14:23Speaker 2: easy stuff, I mean he was great last year at
- 14:26Speaker 2: avoiding sacks, the fourth quarter comebacks, the big time throws.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Taylor Blames extremely talented and moving in the right direction.
- 14:32Speaker 2: I think you have to look to that draft classes,
- 14:35Speaker 2: you know, having three potential stars in these in the
- 14:37Speaker 2: coming years.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Here, Well, all right, let's let's talk Joe Burrow.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Show.
- 14:46Speaker 1: He's right there in your backyard. Is he really good
- 14:51Speaker 1: or great? What?
- 14:54Speaker 2: How do we I think he can he can be great.
- 14:56Speaker 2: I mean he's his accuracy is incredible and it is
- 15:00Speaker 2: tough to separate him. You know, if I'm gonna say, hey,
- 15:02Speaker 2: Mahomes stats may have been inflated a little bit by
- 15:05Speaker 2: Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelcey. You do have Jamar Chase
- 15:08Speaker 2: and t Higgins. I mean, it's it's so helpful. Obviously,
- 15:14Speaker 2: you do have the thing working against Burrow is over
- 15:17Speaker 2: the last few years, you have Jake Browning coming in
- 15:19Speaker 2: and looking pretty good. You have Joe Flacco almost forty
- 15:22Speaker 2: years old, coming in and looking pretty good with that
- 15:24Speaker 2: offense and making it look different. You know, Burrow plays
- 15:27Speaker 2: a different style. He likes to hold onto the ball,
- 15:29Speaker 2: puts a little more pressure on the offensive line. He's
- 15:31Speaker 2: big play hunting down the field. So I think he's
- 15:34Speaker 2: great and he's been I think, you know, some of
- 15:37Speaker 2: these things have come up because all they're not winning
- 15:39Speaker 2: as many games. It's like, yeah, they're like zero to
- 15:41Speaker 2: four the last two years. When they score thirty three
- 15:44Speaker 2: points or more in a game, you know, they're losing
- 15:47Speaker 2: forty to thirty eight and thirty seven to thirty five.
- 15:49Speaker 2: I mean, they're losing some ridiculous games where the offense
- 15:52Speaker 2: is doing their job and the defense has been one
- 15:54Speaker 2: of the league's worst, if not the worst, over the
- 15:56Speaker 2: last two years. So I think we'll see a better
- 15:58Speaker 2: Borrow this year. You know, I think they'll win a
- 15:59Speaker 2: lot more games. And I think he's squarely in that
- 16:03Speaker 2: top four mix when it comes to the best quarterbacks
- 16:05Speaker 2: in the NFL.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Would you like to see him go the Peyton Manning
- 16:12Speaker 1: Brady route and get the ball out of his hands
- 16:15Speaker 1: quicker the majority of the time.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Steve, I don't know if you saw what he was doing.
- 16:19Speaker 2: There's a flag football game that they were playing earlier
- 16:22Speaker 2: in the summer or late spring, whatever it was, and
- 16:25Speaker 2: he's like jukeing people in the backfield. He's playing like
- 16:28Speaker 2: a maniac in a flag football game. And it's like,
- 16:30Speaker 2: all right, that's the type of style that he might
- 16:33Speaker 2: need to tighten up a little bit at the NFL
- 16:35Speaker 2: level because he's had the same injury issues Lamar Jackson
- 16:38Speaker 2: has had, and they're weird injuries. You know, a wrist
- 16:40Speaker 2: injury and you know just some strange ones here. You know,
- 16:44Speaker 2: some are flukey, but some strange ones in there as well.
- 16:47Speaker 2: So he's got to stay healthy. And if you if
- 16:50Speaker 2: you just you know, five to seven throws a game,
- 16:52Speaker 2: we just get rid of it, get rid of it,
- 16:54Speaker 2: and then you do the big play hunting on third
- 16:56Speaker 2: and long when you really need to, you know. So
- 16:58Speaker 2: I think he's got to learn to pick his spots.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Aaron Rodgers had to deal with this a lot during
- 17:02Speaker 2: his career. He was incredibly mobile, like to play outside
- 17:05Speaker 2: of structure and had to tighten it up just a
- 17:08Speaker 2: little bit and find that balance. So I think that's
- 17:10Speaker 2: that balance is always needed, I think for Borrow. But yeah,
- 17:14Speaker 2: he's gotta he's gotta stay healthy. You gotta gotta stay
- 17:17Speaker 2: on the field.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Yeah, no, no doubt. Steve Alozolo NFL Insadder on the
- 17:21Speaker 1: ATA Bound Show one oh five nine The Zone ESPN.
- 17:25Speaker 1: He joins us on the Farm Bureau Insurance Guest Line
- 17:29Speaker 1: Okay show. What if Mahomes just has a pretty good
- 17:34Speaker 1: you mentioned, you know, the last three years have been
- 17:38Speaker 1: nothing close to that first chunk of years. What if
- 17:43Speaker 1: he just has a pretty good year this year?
- 17:46Speaker 2: Steve, I think I think it depends on how it happens.
- 17:49Speaker 2: The thing I'll be keeping an eye on. Mahomes has
- 17:52Speaker 2: always been magical at avoiding sacks, avoiding negative plays. We
- 17:58Speaker 2: know that he can do the special stuff and make
- 18:00Speaker 2: special throws and everything, but he hasn't won within structure
- 18:04Speaker 2: as much these last couple of years. And you could say, well,
- 18:06Speaker 2: the receivers this, or Andy Reid's getting old. I don't
- 18:08Speaker 2: know a lot of Chiefs fans like to make excuses there,
- 18:11Speaker 2: but it hasn't been as good, and his sack avoidance
- 18:14Speaker 2: hasn't been as good, whether it's you know, not reading
- 18:17Speaker 2: coverage or just holding a tick late. His ability to
- 18:20Speaker 2: avoid pressure where he was always a magician, and maybe
- 18:24Speaker 2: he's if he's lost half a step and now he's
- 18:26Speaker 2: coming off the knee injury. I'll be watching that closely
- 18:28Speaker 2: because those are you know, four or five plays per
- 18:31Speaker 2: game that he always made, and if you take those away,
- 18:34Speaker 2: then it's like, all right, you know, he's a you know,
- 18:36Speaker 2: he's been like the tenth, you know, eight to tenth
- 18:38Speaker 2: most productive quarterback the last few years, depending on which
- 18:41Speaker 2: measures you're using. So if that's four straight years of that,
- 18:45Speaker 2: that's that's something now, he always has had the late
- 18:47Speaker 2: game magic and you know, put the team on his
- 18:50Speaker 2: back even when he doesn't have the best game, very
- 18:52Speaker 2: brady like with that. So I don't know that he'll
- 18:55Speaker 2: lose that aspect of his game, but the consistency and
- 18:58Speaker 2: the dominance has taken to step back. If you have
- 19:01Speaker 2: four straight years of that, I think that's that's alarming,
- 19:04Speaker 2: you know, And we'll see how the the you know,
- 19:06Speaker 2: the Chiefs deal with that going forward.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Would would you be shocked if if Joe Burrow had
- 19:13Speaker 1: a better next five year run?
- 19:16Speaker 2: Then no, I know, we talked. We talked a couple
- 19:20Speaker 2: of months back. My biggest story for the next ten years.
- 19:22Speaker 2: How do Mahomes, Allen and Lamar Jackson progress into their thirties?
- 19:27Speaker 2: How does their playing style change? Do they remain healthy?
- 19:30Speaker 2: Do they only have five good years a piece? Can
- 19:32Speaker 2: they do it for ten that last generation did not
- 19:35Speaker 2: have to rely on their legs like this generation does.
- 19:38Speaker 2: How do they change their game? And then Burrow would
- 19:41Speaker 2: be the one that could be most equipped to do that,
- 19:43Speaker 2: and he needs to change his game as well, or
- 19:45Speaker 2: at least, you know, continue to hone it and tighten
- 19:48Speaker 2: it up a little bit. But No, I wouldn't be surprised.
- 19:49Speaker 2: I think Burrow has all the tools and the ability,
- 19:52Speaker 2: and as long as he stays healthy, I think he's
- 19:54Speaker 2: He's right there with all that the Big four.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Okay, and out of the new group that you mentioned,
- 20:02Speaker 1: Caleb Williams and Jade and Daniels, all those dudes, if
- 20:06Speaker 1: you had to bet a hundred bucks on who's going
- 20:08Speaker 1: to be the dude out of that group over the
- 20:13Speaker 1: next six to eight years. Where if you had to
- 20:16Speaker 1: put some money down today, which direction would you go? Steve?
- 20:21Speaker 2: I would say Drake May. I think May has everything
- 20:25Speaker 2: you need. It was incredible in a second year m
- 20:27Speaker 2: VP candidate. I know he struggled a little bit in
- 20:29Speaker 2: the playoffs, but he was under a lot of pressure.
- 20:32Speaker 2: If he continues to improve May's May's in that mix
- 20:35Speaker 2: for as a top four or five quarterback. I think
- 20:37Speaker 2: I'd take him slightly above Jaden Daniels and Caleb Williams
- 20:40Speaker 2: coming coming up here.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Okay, this is going to be exciting and we'll do
- 20:49Speaker 1: more because you're going to join us just about every week.
- 20:52Speaker 1: And I've only got about a minute here or so
- 20:54Speaker 1: that do you do you look at this? Uh, the
- 20:57Speaker 1: AFC and NFC is just wide open this year.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I do at the top especially. I mean, you know,
- 21:04Speaker 2: there's some bad teams in both conferences, but the NFL
- 21:07Speaker 2: is doing a better job of keeping their own players.
- 21:09Speaker 2: I think there's a better roster building effort around the NFL.
- 21:13Speaker 2: And then last year, defenses were incredible, and I think
- 21:16Speaker 2: that leveled the playing field a little bit. It was
- 21:17Speaker 2: more of a defensive league last year than ever, and
- 21:20Speaker 2: I think we'll see another great season that is completely
- 21:23Speaker 2: wide open.
- 21:23Speaker 1: I love it. Hi, buddy, Hey, it was good to
- 21:26Speaker 1: hear your voice again. That means it's football season and
- 21:30Speaker 1: we're looking forward to you hanging out with us. Cool.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. We're back game was
- 21:36Speaker 2: last night. It's time. Let's do it, dude.
- 21:38Speaker 1: I know now that you're having your fifth son, you
- 21:41Speaker 1: are really going to become a VP Skyline Chile member.
- 21:46Speaker 1: So I'm going to make sure to send that to you.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Is like a football or Christmas gift. Be good, buddy,
- 21:52Speaker 1: have a great weekend.
- 21:53Speaker 2: No send me some of your good food. I don't
- 21:55Speaker 2: need any one.
