- 0:00Speaker 1: The Mark Simone Show, live from the WOR LifeVac studios. Well,
- 0:08Speaker 1: we've got a big hour for you. We've got a
- 0:09Speaker 1: lot to get to. Jimmy Fallon will be with us
- 0:12Speaker 1: in a little while. And tomorrow, 9-11, the ceremony will
- 0:16Speaker 1: take place tomorrow. Heavy security. Everything below Canal Street, streets
- 0:21Speaker 1: will be closed. A lot of people coming to this,
- 0:25Speaker 1: so there will be extra security. beyond what we would
- 0:29Speaker 1: usually do on 9-11. Former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush,
- 0:34Speaker 1: Barack Obama, and Joe Biden are expected to attend. Joe Biden.
- 0:40Speaker 1: He's been suffering a lot lately with his cancer, but
- 0:46Speaker 1: he's expected to be there. We'll see. Former Secretary of
- 0:49Speaker 1: State Hillary Clinton, former First Lady Laura Bush expected to attend.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Michelle Obama, not on the list. What else does she
- 0:56Speaker 1: have to do? Who knows? Probably one of those ridiculous
- 0:59Speaker 1: podcasts that she does. This is, believe it or not,
- 1:05Speaker 1: the one-year anniversary of the assassination of Charlie Kirk. That
- 1:10Speaker 1: terrible day, which seems like a few months ago, but
- 1:13Speaker 1: it's one year ago today. Just an awful day that was. Now,
- 1:20Speaker 1: we're going to get to this 9-11 thing. That's going
- 1:22Speaker 1: to be a lot of traffic problems. It'll be a
- 1:25Speaker 1: major gridlock alert day tomorrow. And then, not next week,
- 1:31Speaker 1: but the week after, you're going to have a big
- 1:33Speaker 1: problem with that UN General Assembly. The UN General Assembly,
- 1:37Speaker 1: where all the world leaders come to New York, is
- 1:39Speaker 1: going to be an absolute mess. It's actually September 22nd
- 1:42Speaker 1: through the 28th. So it's six days. of that, six
- 1:49Speaker 1: days of that stuff that you're going to have to
- 1:50Speaker 1: go through. Remember, it's not just around the UN. These
- 1:52Speaker 1: world leaders stay at hotels all over Manhattan. So it's
- 1:56Speaker 1: going to be all over the place. So I got
- 1:59Speaker 1: a really busy day today. I want to get one
- 2:01Speaker 1: thing after another. It's just all day long. So I'm
- 2:05Speaker 1: on the air now two hours. Every second I get
- 2:07Speaker 1: another text. Sorry, but I have to cancel today. Every
- 2:12Speaker 1: single thing I canceled, which is great. they send these
- 2:16Speaker 1: long texts apologizing. I'm so sorry. Please forgive me. I
- 2:20Speaker 1: have to move reschedule.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Great.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Great. I don't want to send back a big smiley face.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Thank God. Thank you for canceling. So, um, us open, uh,
- 2:29Speaker 1: continues now, you know, they have this thing there where, uh,
- 2:33Speaker 1: you pay a lot of money for these tickets to
- 2:35Speaker 1: the us open, you pay a fortune and then you
- 2:37Speaker 1: get in there and they try to rob you every
- 2:40Speaker 1: which way with the concessions, you know, they have that
- 2:42Speaker 1: honeydew melon, whatever the hell that thing was. That's like a,
- 2:45Speaker 1: drink that's like 80 bucks, and then there's always one
- 2:49Speaker 1: new thing that takes off. This year, it's the $ 38
- 2:51Speaker 1: sandwich that people line up for. They just can't wait
- 2:55Speaker 1: to get it. This is the hottest thing there this year.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Where is it here? It's a prime rib sandwich topped
- 3:03Speaker 1: with onions, aioli, and provolone. You can't get that anywhere
- 3:12Speaker 1: except every 10 feet in New York. I can think
- 3:14Speaker 1: of 14 places on this block where you could get that.
- 3:18Speaker 1: I don't know why, but the prime rib sandwich took
- 3:20Speaker 1: off in the last couple of years. And the French
- 3:23Speaker 1: dip sandwich, every restaurant now, every restaurant, French dip sandwich
- 3:27Speaker 1: is very big. But that prime rib sandwich, they got
- 3:30Speaker 1: that all over the place. Speaking of food, Carnegie Deli
- 3:34Speaker 1: reopens next week. They say Tuesday. I'm going to walk
- 3:38Speaker 1: by there later and check and see how it's going.
- 3:41Speaker 1: But they're supposed to open maybe on Tuesday. Now, a
- 3:47Speaker 1: little local news here. Let's go to Huntington, Long Island.
- 3:50Speaker 1: This woman goes to a spa in Huntington, Long Island.
- 3:56Speaker 1: And she gets a massage. This is a big thing
- 3:59Speaker 1: with women, going to the spa. They have spa days.
- 4:02Speaker 1: They go to a spa. No man ever goes to
- 4:05Speaker 1: a spa. Once in a while you see a man there,
- 4:06Speaker 1: but he's only there looking for women. But she goes
- 4:10Speaker 1: to the spa, hunting in Long Island, getting a massage.
- 4:15Speaker 1: The masseuse, a guy from Syosset. Now look at the
- 4:18Speaker 1: picture of this guy. This guy looks like one deranged maniac.
- 4:21Speaker 1: He looks like Bill Murray playing an assassin. He looks
- 4:25Speaker 1: just deranged. But anyway, she's getting a massage when the
- 4:31Speaker 1: masseuse forcibly touches her in a spot you're not supposed
- 4:36Speaker 1: to touch. well, it says the name of the spa.
- 4:42Speaker 1: It's on Walt Whitman Road. We don't even need to
- 4:44Speaker 1: mention it. He inappropriately touched the woman as she lay
- 4:46Speaker 1: on the massage table about noon, police say. So she
- 4:53Speaker 1: went to the massage. She didn't report it. She decided
- 4:56Speaker 1: not to call the police. I can understand. She didn't
- 4:59Speaker 1: want to be involved with the police. So she just
- 5:02Speaker 1: went home. Later that night on Facebook, the masseuse contacts her.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Looked up her. He knew the name. He knew where
- 5:10Speaker 1: she lives. He found her Facebook page and sent her
- 5:13Speaker 1: a message. In fact, apparently he was moving to a
- 5:17Speaker 1: new place to do massages. And, well, she got all
- 5:22Speaker 1: alarmed when he contacted her on Facebook. She called the police.
- 5:26Speaker 1: That's when the police showed up. They've arrested the guy.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Desk appearance ticket scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court.
- 5:34Speaker 1: You see, you get a little pushy. It's bad enough
- 5:36Speaker 1: to do what he did. but then you contact her
- 5:39Speaker 1: on Facebook really bad. Hey, yesterday, the big Apple show
- 5:43Speaker 1: where they unveiled all the new products. The new iPhone
- 5:47Speaker 1: is phenomenal. The new iPhone 18 pro, the most amazing
- 5:52Speaker 1: phone ever. They've got a battery in there that goes 39,
- 5:57Speaker 1: 40 hours. The battery can last almost two days. Unbelievable.
- 6:03Speaker 1: The camera, uh, The advancement on the camera is amazing.
- 6:08Speaker 1: The speed, all that stuff. They've hardened the case and
- 6:11Speaker 1: the glass. In fact, they say with this new iPhone
- 6:14Speaker 1: Pro 18, don't even need to put a case on it.
- 6:17Speaker 1: You can drop it all you want. Nothing will happen
- 6:19Speaker 1: to it. The new Apple Watch. That Apple Watch is
- 6:24Speaker 1: not very good at sleep tracking and some other things.
- 6:26Speaker 1: They're claiming they have fixed the sensor. The sensor on
- 6:30Speaker 1: the watch that's against your wrist is going to be
- 6:31Speaker 1: so advanced it'll track everything. The new Apple Watch looks
- 6:35Speaker 1: pretty good, too. The new iPhone, $ 1, 300. Now, the big
- 6:39Speaker 1: thing is the Duo. This is the foldable phone, where
- 6:42Speaker 1: it looks like an iPhone, then you fold it open,
- 6:45Speaker 1: and it's as big as a tablet, a mini tablet.
- 6:49Speaker 1: It seems kind of useless. In fact, most of the
- 6:51Speaker 1: reviewers that used it said it's great to unfold it
- 6:55Speaker 1: to get the big screen, but after a while, it's
- 6:57Speaker 1: kind of gimmicky, and they didn't really use it. If
- 6:59Speaker 1: you really need that, just get the mini tablet. Easy
- 7:02Speaker 1: to carry around. It's going to be expensive, that foldable phone.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Start at $ 2, 000, go to almost $ 4, 000. So all of
- 7:11Speaker 1: the products, you can go online, you can buy them now,
- 7:14Speaker 1: but they're not going to be delivered. I think the
- 7:16Speaker 1: watch will come a week from now. You can't order
- 7:20Speaker 1: the new phone yet. You can pre-order, but not really order,
- 7:25Speaker 1: because then they'll send you a note. It's complicated. On Saturday, then.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Then you can start ordering on Saturday. That's when you
- 7:32Speaker 1: can really order. So Mamdani and his crazy grocery store scheme.
- 7:37Speaker 1: It's the stupidest idea ever. It sounds good. I'm going
- 7:40Speaker 1: to open government grocery stores where everything will be 30% cheaper.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Sounds great. And the only problem is you're the government.
- 7:48Speaker 1: You haven't got a clue as to how to run
- 7:50Speaker 1: a grocery store. And you're not just the government. You're Mamdani,
- 7:53Speaker 1: who's not even experienced in government. He's brand new. He's
- 7:57Speaker 1: a kid. He's 34, never had a job. has no
- 8:00Speaker 1: clue how to run a grocery store, how to even
- 8:01Speaker 1: open a grocery store. He said it'll cost $ 30 million
- 8:05Speaker 1: for each grocery store. They're building a Wegmans over on
- 8:09Speaker 1: the Upper West Side. That's costing $ 2 million to build it.
- 8:14Speaker 1: They built these groceries. They built a beautiful Uncle Giuseppe's
- 8:18Speaker 1: in Greenvale, Long Island. It's being magnificent.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Huge.
- 8:21Speaker 1: You never saw a grocery store so big. $ 2 million.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Mamdani with his little broken-down bodega. $ 30 million to open.
- 8:28Speaker 1: It's ridiculous. But the idea is you could sell things 30% cheaper. Well,
- 8:33Speaker 1: if you talk to all the big supermarkets in New York, Gristiti's, D'Agostino's,
- 8:37Speaker 1: you talk to all the big supermarket chains, they'll tell
- 8:41Speaker 1: you that they could sell everything 30% cheaper. Just like that.
- 8:46Speaker 1: They could do it tonight. All you have to do
- 8:49Speaker 1: is drop the property tax, drop the congestion pricing, drop
- 8:54Speaker 1: the property tax and all that, and help them with
- 8:58Speaker 1: their rent. And they'll make everything 30% cheaper. It's easy
- 9:02Speaker 1: to do. If grocery prices are high, it's because they're
- 9:05Speaker 1: paying massive property tax and high rent. So you just
- 9:11Speaker 1: do that. You got the problem solved. Everything's 30% cheaper
- 9:14Speaker 1: right then and there. You don't have to do it anywhere.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Pick the neighborhoods where you think you need a cheap
- 9:18Speaker 1: grocery store and just do it in those neighborhoods on
- 9:21Speaker 1: those stores. And you'd save, whatever he's talking about, spending
- 9:25Speaker 1: $ 120 million on these grocery stores. They'll never happen. Now,
- 9:29Speaker 1: the next obstacle he's got, the National Supermarket Association is
- 9:35Speaker 1: now suing him. He was getting sued by the bodega owners.
- 9:39Speaker 1: They have an association. They were suing to block him. Now,
- 9:43Speaker 1: the National Supermarket Association has asked a judge to delay
- 9:47Speaker 1: the whole thing. There's a bidding process because it turns out,
- 9:50Speaker 1: as I said, Mom Donnie and the government, they've got
- 9:53Speaker 1: no clue how to run a grocery store. So they
- 9:55Speaker 1: put it out to bid government contracts online. by October 16th.
- 10:01Speaker 1: But the National Supermarket Association asked the judge to delay
- 10:06Speaker 1: the whole bidding process. Now, here's the other thing. If
- 10:09Speaker 1: you're a grocery store operator, are you going to bid
- 10:12Speaker 1: to run a Mamdani grocery store? Not going to be
- 10:16Speaker 1: a lot of profit in it. And you've got to
- 10:18Speaker 1: deal with the government. That's one problem. Here's the other problem.
- 10:21Speaker 1: In this lawsuit, National Supermarket Association lawsuit, they have now
- 10:26Speaker 1: warned everybody they will sue any winning bidder. Whoever wins
- 10:31Speaker 1: the bidding, they will sue. They will sue for predatory pricing.
- 10:38Speaker 1: So I don't know if anybody's going to be bidding
- 10:39Speaker 1: so fast on that. Hey, we mentioned before Billy Joel,
- 10:43Speaker 1: who had stopped touring. He had some kind of medical problem. Well,
- 10:46Speaker 1: he's explained it was brain surgery he had a problem
- 10:50Speaker 1: in his brain he had brain surgery pretty serious stuff
- 10:55Speaker 1: uh he's recovering now uh here he is talking about.
- 10:58Speaker 2: It i'm doing physical therapy uh i'm doing whatever it
- 11:02Speaker 2: is they tell me to do because i don't want
- 11:05Speaker 2: to lose it you know so i'm always testing myself
- 11:08Speaker 2: you know i know people have heard he's got a
- 11:10Speaker 2: brain disorder And I'm okay. I just want people to know,
- 11:14Speaker 2: don't worry about me. I'm not going anywhere. I'm here.
- 11:16Speaker 2: I'm still here.
- 11:17Speaker 1: All right. So he got through the hard part. It's
- 11:19Speaker 1: physical therapy, a brain disorder. Hey, Bruce Springsteen, we get
- 11:24Speaker 1: that brain of yours checked. Maybe have somebody take a
- 11:27Speaker 1: look at it just to be sure. Jimmy Kimmel canceled again. Gone.
- 11:32Speaker 1: That's it. This is the final season. We're in a
- 11:35Speaker 1: new TV season. He'll wrap it up in May. He
- 11:38Speaker 1: was on this week. Oh, is he angry? He is
- 11:42Speaker 1: more angry than ever. He was yelling and screaming about Trump,
- 11:47Speaker 1: vicious about Trump. I know it bothers you. You know what?
- 11:50Speaker 1: You should enjoy it. I actually kind of enjoy it.
- 11:52Speaker 1: It makes me feel good to see him really upset,
- 11:55Speaker 1: really miserable. It's supposed to be a comedian. It's supposed
- 11:59Speaker 1: to be a comedy show. It's late night TV. He
- 12:02Speaker 1: does what's called a monologue. It's jokes. You're supposed to
- 12:05Speaker 1: come out. The guy comes out angry, vicious. Imagine you
- 12:10Speaker 1: go to a comedy show or you put on a
- 12:12Speaker 1: comedy show. I'd like to have some laughs. Let me
- 12:14Speaker 1: put this on. The guy comes out snarling, angry. You
- 12:17Speaker 1: can see it in his eyes. He wants to kill somebody.
- 12:20Speaker 1: He's so angry. Jimmy Fallon will be with us later
- 12:23Speaker 1: this hour. He does the best late-night show on television.
- 12:26Speaker 1: We'll talk to him about it. You know that Amazon jet,
- 12:31Speaker 1: big whatever it was, 737, crashed in Miami. It kind
- 12:35Speaker 1: of missed the runway. It's flying in, and you're supposed
- 12:39Speaker 1: to land at this part of the runway. It went
- 12:41Speaker 1: too far, landed like in the middle of the runway,
- 12:44Speaker 1: which doesn't give it enough time to stop because you're
- 12:48Speaker 1: going 180 miles an hour on the runway. There's not
- 12:51Speaker 1: enough runway left to stop the plane. Now, what you're
- 12:53Speaker 1: supposed to do if you find yourself in that kind
- 12:55Speaker 1: of crisis is don't land. Pull up. Even though you're
- 12:59Speaker 1: going on the runway, pull up and take off again
- 13:02Speaker 1: and go circle around and come back. It's pretty embarrassing,
- 13:05Speaker 1: but it's the safest thing to do. Maybe once or
- 13:08Speaker 1: twice you've been on a plane where that happened. The
- 13:10Speaker 1: pilot was landing, all of a sudden pulled up again.
- 13:12Speaker 1: Saw he didn't have enough runway. So terrible, terrible pilot error.
- 13:16Speaker 1: It ended up killing people. Now, it turns out this
- 13:20Speaker 1: Amazon plane, it was contracted out to a company called
- 13:25Speaker 1: 21 Air, North Carolina-based operator. And they were operating these
- 13:30Speaker 1: Amazon planes. And according to this story, Numerous senior staff
- 13:36Speaker 1: members had filed complaints against 21 Air. Numerous whistleblowers had
- 13:42Speaker 1: complained about their safety record, their standards. Saying something like
- 13:47Speaker 1: this could happen, they feared a tragedy like this would happen.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Lots of whistleblowers, lots of complaints. So this company looks
- 13:55Speaker 1: pretty bad, but Amazon looks pretty bad for hiring a
- 13:58Speaker 1: bad company. And you're going to see a lot of
- 14:00Speaker 1: liability here. You're going to see a lot of lawsuits filed.
- 14:03Speaker 1: all over the place over this. It's not going to stop. Hey,
- 14:08Speaker 1: Chris Rock, you remember, was it Will Smith? Who was
- 14:12Speaker 1: the guy that got up to punch him? Well, it says,
- 14:15Speaker 1: Chris Rock says he was doing another Oscar show where
- 14:18Speaker 1: he was really going after Jude Law, making jokes about him.
- 14:23Speaker 1: And then later he ran into Jude Law and it
- 14:25Speaker 1: got pretty ugly, pretty ugly. Law was very upset. He
- 14:29Speaker 1: went a little too hard on me and there was,
- 14:31Speaker 1: It got ugly. He said, we're fine now. But remember,
- 14:35Speaker 1: he was not having any of it. You know, the
- 14:37Speaker 1: problem is it's a different world now. Everything changed. You know,
- 14:41Speaker 1: it used to be you could make fun of anybody.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Go watch on YouTube. Go watch Don Rickles on The
- 14:46Speaker 1: Tonight Show or on Letterman. Vicious. It wasn't really vicious.
- 14:50Speaker 1: It was joking. It's just jokes. You make jokes about
- 14:54Speaker 1: anything and everything and everybody. And people laughed. But people
- 14:58Speaker 1: are just sensitive now. It's just... It got too politically correct.
- 15:02Speaker 1: People getting canceled. Everybody's just too sensitive about jokes. Jimmy
- 15:09Speaker 1: Fallon will be with us later. We'll ask him about this.
- 15:10Speaker 1: We'll ask him about Jimmy Kimmel. We'll take some calls next.
- 15:13Speaker 1: 800-321-0710 is the number.
- 15:14Speaker 2: 800-321-0710.
