Transcript
- 0:00Justin (GM): Theater of the Mindset. Theater
- 0:05Nick (Pat): of the Last week on Camp Do Anything, our first time counselor arrived at camp and were individually greeted by the owner, Mazoga Broadhorn. Mazzie informed the crew that they needed 30 campers to pass their questing ritual this year in order for the camp to keep their funding and stay open. All the while keeping an eye on ex camp Stealth Shaw right across the river. To end their first day, the full staff met at the spirit tree for some bonding around a bonfire, and Eleanor ended the evening in and a beautiful little song. We're gonna pick up the next morning.
- 1:14Justin (GM): It is the first morning of having the full summer staff at Camp Do Anything and preparations for camper arrival are in full swing. Following a breakfast of pancakes, delicious oatmeal, and cheesy grits with bacon, Mazzy has gathered her summer staff together on the large patio of Perth Hall overlooking the Stellshall River. The five of you are situated in front of various sized and species of dummies that are laid out on the ground. They have, like, little cushions in their chests for you to practice your chest compressions on. Mazi says, do do any of you before we begin, do any of you have your CPR certification?
- 1:59I I should have asked this question before I got all set up. Any of you? And logistically, if any of you have proficiency in medicine, you do not have to take a CPR training at this time.
- 2:10Justin (GM): I definitely need to study.
- 2:12Eric (Bunky): I've got CPR training.
- 2:14Justin (GM): Great, Bunky. I've I'm so I'm so happy with that.
- 2:17Jamie (Eleanore): I also I have CPR training. Everybody in my family had to because you have to know which hands to use for which chest.
- 2:26Justin (GM): Oh, I guess that makes sense. That makes sense. Yeah. Okay. So if you two different hands?
- 2:33Jamie (Eleanore): Bunky, we can't.
- 2:36Justin (GM): Eleanor, can you actually I think yanks, I didn't actually get one for yanks. So if you could give yours, given that you have the smallest, you have the halfling dummy, if you could give your dummy to yanks your braid so that he can use that Yeah. That would be great. So the rest of you kind of if you could get into position and remember to use the song that we talked about earlier today, another one bites the dust preferably. It's the one that I use, but there are other options.
- 3:07And go ahead and everyone give me a medicine check. You just have to beat a 10. It's really easy. This is not advanced CPR. If you have if you have proficiency, you are not taking this test.
- 3:18Eric (Bunky): I just like to be included.
- 3:20Justin (GM): Okay, Bunky. I passed. Of course, because you studied. Yeah. You have proficiency on this.
- 3:2614. Great.
- 3:28Kayla (Evandria): Evandria got exactly a 10.
- 3:30Justin (GM): Perfect. 12. Nice. Nice. Oh, let me roll for Yanks.
- 3:36Yanks got a now one.
- 3:38Justin (GM): Oh, that that's right. Unsurprising.
- 3:39Kayla (Evandria): Well, he's trying to do it on Eleanor's dummy.
- 3:42Justin (GM): Right. Right. He is infinitely smaller. Eleanor, you just see Yanks going as fast as he can on this.
- 3:51Jamie (Eleanore): I'm like, no no no, it's this. Alright. Ready? She's a brick and I'm
- 3:56Justin (GM): drowning slowly.
- 3:58Jamie (Eleanore): That's the speed.
- 3:59Justin (GM): Oh, that seems so slow.
- 4:01Jamie (Eleanore): Oh, that's that's how I learned it.
- 4:04Nick (Pat): Is the Centaur CPR like is that like a bigger umbrella that covers humans for both certifications?
- 4:10Jamie (Eleanore): Yes. Okay. Because we have to learn how to use our hands Sure. On our top chests our hooves Yeah. On our bottom halves.
- 4:17Justin (GM): Wait. Do you have two hearts?
- 4:20Jamie (Eleanore): We're not sure.
- 4:23Nick (Pat): The certification board doesn't
- 4:25Jamie (Eleanore): Certification board has never
- 4:27Nick (Pat): There's no way to
- 4:28Jamie (Eleanore): cracked one of us open.
- 4:29Nick (Pat): Yeah. There's no way to know.
- 4:30Justin (GM): There's never been an autopsy.
- 4:32Jamie (Eleanore): There's never been an autopsy. We always know the cause of death.
- 4:35Justin (GM): Unsure how many hearts, know how many dads. Zero.
- 4:39Jamie (Eleanore): Oh, thanks for bringing me back down.
- 4:42Justin (GM): No problem. Yanks gives you a salute and immediately goes back to giving two hard of chest compressions.
- 4:47Nick (Pat): Yanks, what was the certification like at the at the pond there?
- 4:51Justin (GM): Oh, we didn't certify. We just let people drown. Oh, incredible. Yeah. Okay.
- 4:55It didn't happen very often, but it made the counting easier. Got it. Yeah. So you guys go about that CPR training for a little bit longer. You get some first aid in there as well.
- 5:06And then you move on to the second portion of the morning training which is kind of getting the rest of the waterfront prepared. There is already a sunken intentionally sunken ship that has been placed prior to this. This is a new installment at camp that allows campers to try out underwater skills and underwater adventures. They can go underground, and kind of explore into darker spaces in the ship or be on top of the ship and dive into it. But you do need to still set up an area for campers who have not passed their swim test, which speaking of, I do need you all to confirm that you can pass the swim test.
- 5:49I know that it seems illogical, but the does require that I have evidence that you can pass the swim test. So logistically, I need you all to give me an athletics check, and you just again need to beat a 10. If we're proficient. This one, unfortunately, I just need to have evidence that you have passed the swim test. You just need to tread water for one minute.
- 6:1318. Wow, Bunky. You've you've
- 6:16Eric (Bunky): My popsicle sticks don't sink.
- 6:19Justin (GM): Yes. That that is a definite help.
- 6:20Eric (Bunky): And neither will my optimism.
- 6:22Jamie (Eleanore): These sticks don't sink.
- 6:23Justin (GM): Great. Evandria?
- 6:25Kayla (Evandria): Evandria, again, barely passes.
- 6:30Justin (GM): Great. I explain to me why and how Evandria barely passes.
- 6:37Kayla (Evandria): Evandria is not keen in the water. She thinks the the buoyancy of the human is a bit too magical, so it starts to makes make her feel anxious, make her feel a bit claustrophobic. And so about halfway through, she, like, doggy paddles herself back to the shore and just glares at everybody as she sharpens her stick for piercing fish instead.
- 7:06Justin (GM): Andrea, I do need to make sure that you can't touch the ground. That's a key to treading water. You can't touch the the bottom.
- 7:13Kayla (Evandria): Yeah. I was just in there and I never touched the bottom.
- 7:17Justin (GM): K. We're gonna say that's a pass.
- 7:19Justin (GM): Mala? Mala jumps into the water and dives straight down to the bottom and like gets the muck off of the bottom, brings it back up and he stays under for a full minute, holding his breath with a 21.
- 7:31Justin (GM): Wow. Mala. An unnecessary show of of you you could also could have taken your plate off. You didn't need to No. To do that with your plate off.
- 7:40Justin (GM): All adventurers know how to swim in their armor.
- 7:42Justin (GM): That that is a true that is true. But wow. That's that's also that is disgusting.
- 7:48Justin (GM): I'll lift an arm and just water.
- 7:49Justin (GM): Here. Here's a couple of towels, I guess.
- 7:54Kayla (Evandria): Evandria's standing there staring at Mala sharpening her spear.
- 7:59Justin (GM): I'll give her a wink.
- 8:01Justin (GM): Eleanor, how did we do?
- 8:03Jamie (Eleanore): Good. I rolled a 14. Eleanor slowly walks into the water and just keeps on going because she's gotta go so far
- 8:13Justin (GM): to
- 8:13Jamie (Eleanore): get her back hooves off the floor of the lake. But she's just doing a simple little breaststroke and yeah. She kills
- 8:22Justin (GM): it. Eleanor. Eleanor. Yeah. That is that's gotta be far enough.
- 8:27Jamie (Eleanore): Nope. I'm still touching.
- 8:29Justin (GM): Oh, okay. I I at this point, I'll just trust you. Okay? You can start coming back now.
- 8:36Jamie (Eleanore): Are we just gonna so are you condoning just lying during these tests?
- 8:42Justin (GM): Give me a give me an intimidation check. 10. It's it's not lying. I am confident that when I check this box that says Eleanor can swim, that it is a truthful statement.
- 8:55Jamie (Eleanore): Thank you. Okay. Her hooves are on the
- 8:59Justin (GM): floor of
- 9:00Kayla (Evandria): the lake,
- 9:00Jamie (Eleanore): but she does just turn around.
- 9:02Justin (GM): You are entirely safe while on the camp shore. You are entirely safe. And how did Pat do?
- 9:09Nick (Pat): Pat did like fine. He was a 13. Great. And it's just Pat just goes out to the middle, starts shredding water, just looks at all the fucking weirdos. Like all of his friends just like, what's going on?
- 9:20Like, why is this?
- 9:21Justin (GM): Okay. That's okay. You register that from Bazi's face that there is no such thing as a normal swim test. Yeah. Every single swim test has experiences Yep.
- 9:32Associated with it.
- 9:33Nick (Pat): But it's not just past you just like kind of ignored through the process. You're just like, okay. Alright.
- 9:38Justin (GM): No. There's We're done? This is There's never a normal swim test. All of them have some type of experience associated with them. So you guys go about the rest of the day kind of doing all kinds of trainings like this.
- 9:51Just making sure that you're checking various boxes. You go through experiences like just looking at a map and making sure you all have a good established understanding of vocabulary. You've all attended camp before, so you're familiar with the names of all the buildings. But just making sure that you all know formal vernacular for everything is where you spend most of the morning. Eventually, during lunchtime, you all gather back together and Anna Lour has prepared you a a nice midday meal.
- 10:19You are joined by all of the rest of the permanent staff. You see Tisel in a corner kind of filling with a small contraption that, sparks every once in a while, but he is diligent in trying to get whatever it it is that he is doing accomplished. And you see Patrick, nearby fiddling with some type of, like, glass tube that has what appears to be some type of red and yellow filament on the inside, and he holds it up to the light a little bit before looking down at a large map of Camp Duanything and the surrounding area. You can see in the far, left side of the map, I guess the western side of the map, you can see that there is a great woods that is marked before you can see the edge of the windless mountains. And he is kind of comparing the filaments inside of the glass tube to the map itself before kind of attending back to the the light that it passes through.
- 11:21Annalor hands you the various lunches that she has prepacked for each of you with particular treats in mind. And she says, how was the rest of your morning? Did did did it go well?
- 11:33Justin (GM): Swimmingly.
- 11:34Justin (GM): Nice. I see what you did there. Wow.
- 11:37Nick (Pat): Incredible. It's
- 11:37Justin (GM): good. I saw you. I could see you from swimming from out here. That was that was quite impressive.
- 11:41Justin (GM): See the sun shining off my armor?
- 11:43Justin (GM): Yeah. It was I I didn't know that they required you to have your armor on during that. That's that's impressive. Well, that's quite impressive.
- 11:53Nick (Pat): Compared to an insight check, has Anilor ever been married or partner?
- 11:59Justin (GM): Give me a perception check. I don't know that that would be an insight looking
- 12:03Nick (Pat): for a ring or perception would be a sixteen sixteen on the die and that would be plus zero. So it'd just be a 16.
- 12:12Justin (GM): You don't see any evidence of that and I think from your previous experiences, you've never seen like a picture of a paramour on Sure. A desk or anything like that. She doesn't shine longingly a frame of anyone in a corner. Sure. Nope.
- 12:27Annalor seems quite content, tending to the hearth that she has created for herself.
- 12:32Nick (Pat): Pat is trying to figure out where Anna Laura learned to cook soul food with the accent she has because everything that she has cooked since we've been back has been barbecue, grits, and so Pat's gonna figure it out.
- 12:46Justin (GM): She really likes to get she really likes an open open flame for sure. Yep. That's definitely a part of of that. She likes a good barbecue.
- 12:54Nick (Pat): Yeah. We passed all all the certifications. I think we're, we're good to go.
- 12:58Justin (GM): After you have had a moment to eat, you see that Mazzy comes from outside. She was finalizing a couple of things on her and and she kinda gathered you all and says, there are a number of things that I would appreciate your help with this afternoon, but I think we're going to have to split up. I think Wendell could use some help with a couple of, things related to something in the bucket, and Patrick could use some help with some things in the great woods. And Wendell kind of gets up and moves over and says, yes. I I was wondering if I could get some help with a little bit of an investigation.
- 13:40I've know I've had a moment to, tinker with some things and could really use some additional help with that. So if any of you could could take a minute this afternoon to help me, would greatly appreciate that.
- 13:55Eric (Bunky): I love tinkering.
- 13:57Nick (Pat): I I I would I wouldn't mind doing some stuff in the bucket. Yeah. That sounds that sounds good.
- 14:01Justin (GM): Oh, great. I think two is probably sufficient. Great. Patrick kind of comes up and says, I have a couple of things I need help with this afternoon in the great woods and I definitely need more than two people. So it's nothing too dangerous, but I would definitely, if you have a chance, go back to your cabin and grab your weapons.
- 14:23They will be helpful, with what we're going to be taking in the great woods. No rush though, if you could swing by though and grab those on your way out and I'll I'll take any other willing hands, it would be awesome.
- 14:36Justin (GM): What are we fighting in the Great Woods?
- 14:37Justin (GM): Oh, fighting is a strong word.
- 14:39Justin (GM): We're grabbing weapons.
- 14:40Kayla (Evandria): We're gonna kill? Oh. Kill immediately perks up.
- 14:45Justin (GM): Killing and fighting, I think, are strong terms. Slaughter? Dope. I think we're going in the stronger direction there, Mala. We're going in the stronger direction.
- 14:53I just don't want you to be caught unawares. You know, the Great Woods are a serious place.
- 14:59Justin (GM): So then just tell us what we're going to be up against.
- 15:02Justin (GM): Well, that's that's part of the problem is I don't exactly know what's going on and I need
- 15:08Justin (GM): Even better.
- 15:10Justin (GM): Yeah. I have found some concerning things and I So
- 15:14Kayla (Evandria): you were too scared and you needed us to come investigate for you?
- 15:18Jamie (Eleanore): Hey, this is what we're here for. We're here to help out.
- 15:20Kayla (Evandria): Yeah. That's what I'm saying is that we'll come help since you're so scared.
- 15:24Justin (GM): I I'm not scared. I need more when you're looking for something, more bodies is helpful. And I think you can see that Mazzy hears you like give that little jab to Patrick and she kind of gives you, not gives you, but kind of makes her own kind of nod up and down as you kinda get the impression that she might have handled this situation a little bit differently when she was camp ranger.
- 15:50Jamie (Eleanore): Patrick, your wedding.
- 15:53Justin (GM): I I would I kinda I ran here. I thought I was late lunch. No.
- 15:59Justin (GM): I'm Isn't he your boss?
- 16:02Nick (Pat): No. Fact factually, yes.
- 16:05Kayla (Evandria): That's so funny of Yes.
- 16:07Justin (GM): Yes. I We all are your bosses. We all are your bosses, Evandria.
- 16:11Kayla (Evandria): Well, some people try to be bosses and some people succeed in being bosses.
- 16:16Justin (GM): Did you read that on a poster somewhere?
- 16:18Kayla (Evandria): It's what my mom always says.
- 16:20Justin (GM): Wow. Your mom Is she wise? Read that on a poster somewhere?
- 16:24Kayla (Evandria): She's a wise woman, she makes the posters.
- 16:27Justin (GM): As a side gig? Hang in there.
- 16:29Eric (Bunky): I think I've seen her mom on a poster actually. Yeah. That's true. It's a really good poster.
- 16:34Justin (GM): That's what what was on the what was on the poster?
- 16:37Eric (Bunky): Her mom and just words. Wait.
- 16:39Jamie (Eleanore): Her mom makes posters of herself on
- 16:42Nick (Pat): you have a poster of Andrea's mom on your wall at home?
- 16:45Jamie (Eleanore): Oh my god.
- 16:46Nick (Pat): In your bedroom?
- 16:46Eric (Bunky): No. Well, I thought That's crazy.
- 16:49Jamie (Eleanore): On the ceiling above your bed?
- 16:51Eric (Bunky): Well, here's here's the thing.
- 16:52Justin (GM): Is that the craft cabin?
- 16:53Eric (Bunky): No. I have my own I have my own cabin.
- 16:56Justin (GM): But in your personal home, you have a picture of a
- 17:00Eric (Bunky): I I didn't say that I had one. I just said that I've
- 17:03Jamie (Eleanore): Do seen you?
- 17:05Eric (Bunky): Yes. But that's beside I can I can just appreciate good art? That's that's what my entire existence is about. I just appreciate things and the time and effort people put into things. It doesn't matter that, yes, I have a poster or two of Andrea's mom.
- 17:22That's fine. Two?
- 17:24Jamie (Eleanore): How late at night do you appreciate art?
- 17:28Eric (Bunky): I don't sleep. Okay? So that feels like a ricked question.
- 17:31Justin (GM): Patrick has gathered just things. Not things he needs, just things and he has put them in his hands and is saying, oh, wait. Well, I'm going to now run to the Evergreen Center. No reason, just going to run. I'll meet you all out there when whenever you're ready.
- 17:49Kayla (Evandria): Yep. We'll meet you there,
- 17:51Nick (Pat): Patrick. Oh, he literally meant run. He physically and if he's running Guys,
- 17:57Kayla (Evandria): I have something I need to say. I'm not I'm really worried about working with Patrick this summer because, you know, as my mom always says, his elevator doesn't go all the way to the top.
- 18:06Nick (Pat): What do you mean? It looks like not gonna get along the poster.
- 18:09Justin (GM): You're gonna you're gonna have to get that place ready on your own.
- 18:12Justin (GM): No. I'm helping.
- 18:14Justin (GM): I Oh, Well, Yeah.
- 18:16Justin (GM): I'm helping.
- 18:17Kayla (Evandria): Alright. Anyways, this
- 18:18Jamie (Eleanore): will be a good we'll be there with you. This will be a good first, like, actual collaboration with him. So this will be good.
- 18:26Kayla (Evandria): Yeah. Okay. Thanks, guys. Come on.
- 18:31Justin (GM): Wendell approaches Bunky and Pat. He has this thick spell book, kind of packed away in a side bag, And you can see that his fingers already early this morning are smudged with ink, and he has little spectacles resting on his beak over his eyes. And he says, so I understand you're both gonna help me out today and I've got a couple of things I need some assistance with back at the bucket and I think you both will find it particularly interesting actually.
- 19:04Eric (Bunky): Oh, nice. Okay.
- 19:05Justin (GM): Yeah. Sweet. So come with me and if you wanna grab a couple of snacks to go, think that'd be good. I don't think it'll be too long, but casting magic is sometimes taxing and so having a couple of snacks I find is is helpful as he opens up his another pouch on his robe and pulls out a small treat and pops little tea cake into his mouth.
- 19:29Nick (Pat): Pat, under his breath, looks mugging. It just says, just in case he feels peckish.
- 19:34Justin (GM): What was that?
- 19:35Nick (Pat): Nothing.
- 19:36Justin (GM): I'm still what have you been up to
- 19:38Nick (Pat): this year since the last time we saw you, Wendell?
- 19:40Justin (GM): Oh, well, you know, there have been a couple of really interesting books that were published in the last year. One that I think is particularly interesting, it relates back to and he starts droning on about some obscure text that you can absolutely know is a non fiction book, theoretical arcane studies. Bunkie, go ahead.
- 20:04Eric (Bunky): Bunkie is plastered to
- 20:05Justin (GM): this Give me an Arcana check or I will accept a history check. 13. 13, you have heard of this book. In particular, you've heard of the author, Durand Gobroth. He is a author of particularly enchantment magic, and his particular area of study with a 13 has to do with long term effects of the Geus spell on the minds of people who it is cast on.
- 20:39So pretty high level stuff and, also pretty tangentially related. Like, it's not actually about how to cast the spell. It's like what happens to a person's brain after they've been gay asked for, like, seven years. So pretty articulate stuff.
- 20:57Nick (Pat): Can Pat make a roll to see if he understands any of it?
- 21:00Justin (GM): Yeah. Go ahead and give me an Arcana or just give me a flat intelligence check. It's a 13. Okay. You definitely are familiar with the spells.
- 21:11You've heard of the person. This is a very well written professor from the Benathaurin University of Arcane Arts. The actual details that he gets into, which particularly happens as he like turns away from you as he's talking and leading you all to the bucket. Definitely, think go over both of your heads.
- 21:31Nick (Pat): Yes. The gayest. Yes. Absolute absolutely. That's that's interesting.
- 21:37Justin (GM): It is. It interesting.
- 21:39Eric (Bunky): Interesting doesn't even begin to cover it.
- 21:41Nick (Pat): Oh, So
- 21:42Eric (Bunky): many so many oh, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I don't
- 21:45Justin (GM): mean It's okay. It's fine.
- 21:46Eric (Bunky): I'm it's just so fascinating and I and like, these are the kinds of things that I would love to dig into more.
- 21:52Justin (GM): Oh, you're you're interested? Absolutely. I I suppose it well, I don't want to assume that Pat's not interested as well. I only have one copy of the book. Not everyone can rent it out at the same time.
- 22:03Nick (Pat): We'll arm wrestle for it later.
- 22:05Eric (Bunky): Oh. Oh, no. Please please do not arm wrestle for a book. I I don't have wrists so I don't know how those rules apply to me.
- 22:15Nick (Pat): You just need an arm.
- 22:16Eric (Bunky): Well, okay. I have two of those. Sprangly, they're little Sprangly guys but I got them.
- 22:22Nick (Pat): You've grown quite a
- 22:22Eric (Bunky): bit. Yeah. I have. That's true. Yeah.
- 22:24That's true. My my arms are larger than they were. I think
- 22:28Justin (GM): technically the word you're looking for there is longer. I don't think larger necessarily applies.
- 22:34Eric (Bunky): Well, it's long longer is like a form of larger,
- 22:37Justin (GM): isn't it? We should always choose the most specific word. You're right. You're Longer is a more appropriate word because I don't believe those pipe cleaners are any thicker than they were last summer.
- 22:47Eric (Bunky): That's true. They're not any thicker than they were. Well, oh, I don't know. They've they've gotten proportionally rounder, but they've not like bulked up. I haven't bulked up or I don't I'd weight lifting doesn't do anything we'll
- 23:02Justin (GM): work on
- 23:03Nick (Pat): it. We'll work on it. It's fine.
- 23:04Justin (GM): And you guys arrive at the bucket. The bucket is the arcane center of camp. It is also the camp's library and gardens. So it is called The Bucket because it is a square shaped building with an open air garden in the center. And although the walls have a natural enchantment on it, it is still fairly open aired.
- 23:29So the walls on the outside, do not have a replicative do not have a mirror on the inside. It kind of appears to be an open air courtyard on the inside. And the enchantment keeps a lot of the moisture and extreme weather out, but on a particularly stormy day or on a really humid day, it gets called the bucket because it often can feel quite damp on the inside and uncomfortable. As you all approach, the outside has large windows and a few doors that you can enter in on. There are gardens on the outside for some of the larger vegetation like bushes and small trees.
- 24:10But once you open the doors, you are immediately greeted by a familiar sight that you all have seen before. There are rows and rows of books. There are lots of comfy chairs for more long reading periods, but desks for students to sit at and take notes if they want to take that approach to their studies. In the far corner across the way, you can see herbs that are hanging from the ceiling drying out for various apothecary uses. The bucket itself is a real center of learning here at camp, and Wendell kind of governs over it with, a judicious eye.
- 24:52He, even as he kind of walks in, you see him kind of casually put his spell book up in its place, on a podium near the entrance. And with a light touch of his feathered fingers, an enchantment kind of locks it in place. The morning sun is kind of creating a nice dim glow in the room, and the natural enchantments in this space do kind of invite you to kind of want to cuddle up with a book. There's a hammock or two, if you want to kind of rest yourselves. But everything about the bucket is designed to be welcoming and to facilitate long periods of time behind books.
- 25:38I actually could really use your help studying an arcane object. I believe that two of you actually brought it back last summer.
- 25:49Nick (Pat): The Cryptid Least Tone?
- 25:51Justin (GM): Yes. I heard that. Yes. You left it
- 25:56Eric (Bunky): Still here?
- 25:57Justin (GM): It is still here. You left it with Mazi last summer, and we have, like, you know, couldn't pass up an opportunity to do a little bit of study. And, technically, we don't have to turn it into the Venetharan authorities until we've officially deemed it as a dangerous item, and I don't think I've quite reached that conclusion yet. Bunky, in your studies at the the school, have you learned the identify spell at all?
- 26:24Eric (Bunky): I do have identify. Yes. I've learned that one. Wonderful. Well,
- 26:28Justin (GM): I think that skill will become particularly helpful. I, for the purposes of this exercise, I will actually go through with the casting of the spell, but your knowledge and your ability with that will help us read the outcomes.
- 26:43Eric (Bunky): Okay. Yeah. I'm I'm eager. Let's go ahead and see what we can find about it.
- 26:48Justin (GM): Great. Well, I'm going to have to take you and he kind of fusses with his robe a little bit and pulls out a flat golden circle and kind of holds it up. He says, we'll have to go to the basement where I keep all of the good things.
- 27:03Nick (Pat): Woah. I've never been to the basement.
- 27:06Justin (GM): Well, of course not. Oh. Campers aren't allowed in the basement.
- 27:10Eric (Bunky): Never? We have access now?
- 27:11Justin (GM): You do as counselors. I'm allowed to bring you into the basement under supervision.
- 27:16Eric (Bunky): Incredible. This is amazing.
- 27:18Justin (GM): It is exciting, isn't it? It's my favorite part of the summer, bringing in counselors. Don't get me wrong. I'm always excited to see campers learn new things, but you as counselors have just a little bit of extra training that I love to just dabble with things in. He kind of guides you through to the back of the bucket, and there's, like, a cellar door that as he puts this golden disc towards the center of the the doors, it starts to get, get indents and little rivets in it and kinda changes shapes so that it fits perfectly into the center of the door with a matching spot for this ring.
- 27:59And he twists it, and you hear, like, a lot of clinking and locks undoing until eventually the cylinder itself can become a handle. And he pulls it open and says, please, after you? Did you design that? I did. It's a permanent arcane lock spell, actually, that I've kind of used and stored inside of this.
- 28:20It's borderline artiffer, see, but Yeah. I think it's not beyond my realm of expertise.
- 28:25Nick (Pat): I'd say you give Tiesel a run for his money, Wendell.
- 28:28Justin (GM): Well, just between us, I'm confident I do. He his feathers kind of like get a little bit larger as you say this. Although he's an Arikokura, he is like only like barely five feet I think. On a good day, he's five feet. So he is shorter I think than you Pat and a little bit taller than Bunky, but still a pretty diminutive owl.
- 28:52Nick (Pat): Pat is forever just going to ride the line with every boss of like well, most bosses here of is Pat being sincere, is Pat making fun of them, and with Wendell, it's going to be real hard to tell, I think.
- 29:03Justin (GM): Wendell is unaware. Absolutely. He is he hears a compliment to his intelligence and it just course. Of course. Yes.
- 29:11Of course. As you go into the basement, the basement is not the full size of the bucket itself. It is just kind of one long hallway. You get the idea that it is maybe just under one side of the bucket. And in this area, although there are similar bookcases to the ones you saw above, many of them are not filled with books.
- 29:31A lot of them are filled with the spell components that camp will use throughout the entire summer. The bucket is, in terms of facilities, the most expensive in terms of upkeep. Affording spell components for 80 campers is a lot. And you can see that there are bags and file folders and containers for a ton of spell components in this area. There are occasionally, like, a larger tome that has, like, a lock on it that prevents just anyone from accessing it.
- 30:07There are also kind of larger specimens that have been preserved in jars down here as well as a few kind of items that are suspended in the air over, like, a platform that keeps them protected. A lot of this would appear to be a lot fancier than the space above. As you kind of walk down this hallway, you approach a almost like how you see a mirage off of a road. It's you can see through it pretty clearly, but if you unfocus your eyes or look around the edges, it almost looks like a ripple of water in the air in front of you. And, on the other side of this, are a number of items, but the one that draws your eyes the most is the corrupted leisadone that your adventuring party brought back last summer.
- 31:01This corrupted leisone is maybe not much larger than maybe two fifths or a, like, small cantaloupe, but it is very amorphous in its exterior. The it almost looks like a quartz. It's kind of got, like, a orangest tan opaque outside. But on the inside, it looks like someone pumped in a bunch of very, very tiny, like, almost lighter than air black ball bearings that are slowly moving like liquid inside of it. You've seen laystones many, many times.
- 31:39They all look kinda like this color, but they usually are just solid, and they don't have anything on the inside of them. This one is, quote, corrupted because of whatever's contained inside. And he kind of moves through the arcane barrier. What do we roll? Pat was What do we roll?
- 32:00Nick (Pat): Pat was doing a perception check to see all the things he noticed and to see if he actually caught Wendell moving through the barrier.
- 32:07Justin (GM): What'd you get? I got a four. There's so many things down here.
- 32:12Nick (Pat): I think Pat runs into the barrier Yeah. Following Wendell.
- 32:15Justin (GM): You he goes to the barrier quite easily, and then you get to the barrier, and absolutely, it is a solid wall to you. Oh. This is hot.
- 32:23Eric (Bunky): Please. Did you not see the shimmer?
- 32:26Nick (Pat): Oh. Sorry. Sorry. Just tell
- 32:28Justin (GM): It's a telltale shimmer of a magic circle.
- 32:30Nick (Pat): Yeah. Sure. Sure. Sure. Sure.
- 32:31I
- 32:32Eric (Bunky): I should have warned you
- 32:33Nick (Pat): guess I just thought it was the it was not not for not for all of us. I thought we were all we'd all be able to got it. Yep. That's my bad.
- 32:39Justin (GM): Yep. Give me another perception check, both of you. It's a eight. 11. Great.
- 32:48He grabs the leystone and moves out of the magic circle that is protecting it and all of the other apparently much more important items on the other side and brings it over to the small pedestal, not far from where you both are standing here in the basement. And you can see on the ground is a permanent ritual circle. This is clearly kind of what Wendell uses for his ritual castings and his more powerful spell casting in general. He, kind of gestures to the both of you to take up. There are two large circles that he has painted with not painted.
- 33:26He has created with salt on the, kind of tri corners of this kind of creating tri corners on this circle. Gestures for both of you to stand in there. And he says, I'll be casting, an advanced form of the identify spell. Every previous time I've used the identify spell, I have only been able actually catch the leystone itself and well, I don't need an identify spell to know this is a leystone. I mean
- 34:00Nick (Pat): Classic. Classic.
- 34:00Justin (GM): Oh, well, sorry. This more advanced version of the identify spell that I've been working on should be able to get through that layer and get you to the things inside and hopefully get us a little bit more of an understanding. However, I've run into a problem where I have had to focus on the identify spell and not been able to read the output itself. So I would appreciate the help from both of you to kind of understand and read the outcomes of the identify spell, if you will.
- 34:30Nick (Pat): Great. That starts stretching. Oh,
- 34:33Justin (GM): Harvey's stretching. Oh. He starts, like, individually moving his fingers only, which is what you would stretch if you are doing arcane magics. You see him, like, doing vocal warm ups as well as he, like, massages his neck a little bit, taking on moving the particular parts of the craft that he is used to using.
- 34:56Eric (Bunky): Bunky looks at Pat stretching and kinda was like, oh oh, and raves his raises his arms above his head and kinda like unwinds his his pipe cleaners and then winds them back together.
- 35:11Nick (Pat): Oh, very cool. Fascinating. Well,
- 35:14Justin (GM): shall we begin? And he takes out a small slender wand that he holds between his forefinger and thumb and begins to articulate in the air runes that start to form as almost these thin, almost hair thin cuts in the air that begin to glow and glimmer larger as the runes that he paints in the air really start to take on the effect of the identify spell. But he is going much further than that, almost taking it to another degree. There is more depth to his runes in the air. There's more vibrancy where previously there would not have been.
- 35:57And as he begins to do this, small flecks, almost like dust in the air that you can see in, like, the sunset light of a window begin to appear and circle around the corrupted leystone standing on the podium in the middle of the circle. And these flecks begin to rotate around the outside of the leystone kind of hovering in the air until they almost comprise a orb or a sphere nearly two feet wide around it. Both of you go ahead and give me an arcana check. 24. 17.
- 36:37Wow. Impressive, both of you.
- 36:39Nick (Pat): You'll love to see it.
- 36:40Justin (GM): The first thing you see, I think both of you can tell, is that there are actually two separate orbs or spheres here. One is rotating clockwise, and the other one is is also rotating rotating clockwise, but at a slower rate. It takes you a moment, I think, to sort out the two spheres, like the set of dots that comprise one sphere and the set of dots comprise the other. But kind of given that you're both familiar with the outputs of an identify spell, it doesn't take you long before you pick up on those. Pat, with a 17, the outer sphere that you see is a magic jar spell.
- 37:25This is a pretty high level spell, and you can tell the intricacies of the dots kind of comprise and shape a labyrinth of sorts until you can start to ascertain that it is in fact like some type of advanced casting of a magic jar spell. Almost kind of creating a container around it on top of the leystone itself. With a 24 bunkie, you are actually able to discern what the spell on the inside, the inner orb is, showing. And it almost has like a duplicative layer on top of it. It is whereas the magic jar kind of looked like a maze, this kind of looks like how when you are writing on, like, ditto paper or copy paper, you can almost see other copies above it that didn't quite press hard enough to leave the the carbon copy behind.
- 38:22But you can see that there are layers on layers here, and you would understand this to be the simulacrum spell. The simulacrum spell kind of creates a copy of things. And so the way the spell is presenting in the identify spell through the identify spell is this almost carbon copy appearance of the spheres around you.
- 38:42Nick (Pat): Magic door, magic door. I know this one, I know this one, magic door, magic door, magic door, magic magic door.
- 38:47Eric (Bunky): I I'm I'm getting something I'm getting a simulacrum.
- 38:49Justin (GM): There's two things?
- 38:50Eric (Bunky): Two two things. Yeah. I interest
- 38:53Justin (GM): That would you can see that Wendell has, like, a lot of focus on, and he is hearing the words that you were saying, but he gestures to some pads of paper that are over on the side for you guys to grab and start jotting notes down because he is focused on maintaining the spell and isn't doing a lot to kind of process the things that you guys are saying. He says, if there are any other details or things that you would like to check, I can only maintain the spell for a little bit longer. Do you guys wanna roll any other checks in addition to Arcana that you think might be helpful in this moment? And that could even be, like, a roll on what you've already learned. So if you wanna do the history of the simulacrum spell or investigate the magic jar spell, you can do that.
- 39:42Eric (Bunky): Bunky wants to investigate the complexity of layering, how difficult it would be to compound these spells together.
- 39:50Justin (GM): Go ahead and give me a give me another Arcana check. 24. 24. Well rolled. Jeez.
- 39:59I think you can tell that there have been adjustments made to both of these spells. The way this identify spell is working is it's kind of allowing you to see insights into the alterations that have been made to both spells. I imagine that the simulacrum spell itself, if it had a three d nature to it, would have, rises and valleys in it in this sphere. And a lot of those rises or peaks have been smoothed over, which allow it to be encapsulated inside of this magic jar. It almost seems like it has been both spells have been modified so as to work in combination with one another.
- 40:44Given their own natures, they might not have done so. An advanced spell caster, similar to the way Wendell has altered the identified spell, has altered both of these castings so that they work in combination. What did you roll, Pat?
- 41:01Nick (Pat): I rolled a 14 and I think I'll roll a history on what we know about laystones and what we remember from grabbing this last summer and any details we maybe picked up along the way.
- 41:13Justin (GM): From last summer, you remember that you grabbed this leystone from the same sprite and pixie colony that Yankster breed came from. It was hidden underneath a toad that the duchess carrot, had kind of put on top of it and was keeping it secret. From a bigger perspective ask your question again. Sorry.
- 41:36Nick (Pat): Just history on what we might have picked up, from picking up last year, and I'm kind of thinking about the castle.
- 41:44Justin (GM): Yeah. Yeah. You would recall that the laystone itself resonated with a presence presence that you found inside of the Seelor Chateau, which is this castle that was well outside of campgrounds, and you encountered several creepy crawly skeletal creatures inside of this castle. And, while the leystone itself did not come from there, it did seem to resonate with a lot of the energies inside. And you all dropped this leystone off with Mazzy last summer and did not provide a lot of additional context.
- 42:26So that connection would be unknown to Wendell and might be interesting to provide him with that additional context. I I really need to shut this spell down now. Have you gathered all the information you need?
- 42:40Nick (Pat): I think it's a bunky look at mine. Does this make sense? Is this is this right?
- 42:43Eric (Bunky): That'll that'll make sense to me. Yeah. It it magic jar, how it's connected to all the interaction. Yeah. Everything seems to make sense.
- 42:52It's just so incredible to have these two very powerful spells layered over each other in such a such a smooth fashion.
- 43:01Justin (GM): As you say that, of the little pieces of dust quickly kind of compact back into their point of origin just above the corrupted leystone. And Wendell's entire body kind of shrugs down and he almost loses an inch and two of his height, having maintained control of the spell for a period of time. And he says, thank you for helping me assist that. I again, maintaining concentration of the spell doesn't necessarily allow me to also read the spell. I know it's kind of with the identify itself, but I'm I'm working on alterations of that.
- 43:36Nick (Pat): It's incredible.
- 43:37Justin (GM): Do you mind sharing some of the things that you learned?
- 43:39Nick (Pat): Do you need a snack first?
- 43:40Justin (GM): And he reaches into his pocket and takes out a little tea cake and Yeah. Nibbles on that. Good call. Good call. Yeah.
- 43:46Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 43:46Eric (Bunky): So so we found we found two spells in there. Not just not just one,
- 43:50Justin (GM): but there there were two. We were able
- 43:52Eric (Bunky): to identify both a magic jar spell and also a simulacrum. Interesting. Oh. Well
- 44:02Justin (GM): and was there any particular ordering to those, or how were they configured?
- 44:08Eric (Bunky): Well, the the magic jar was on the outside, like an like an outer shell, so to speak, and and contained within it was the simulacrum.
- 44:17Justin (GM): Interesting. Interesting. I would be I'll need to study more both on those spells, but as you're well familiar, the simulacrum spell creates a a copy of yourself, almost like a not quite the clone spell. It's a lesser version of yourself. Sometimes there are lots of theories out there that says that the original souls changed as much from the experience as as the secondary, but the magic jar spell then allows a person to store their soul into an object.
- 44:55So in combination here, it seems like someone created a copy of themselves and then stored that copy inside of this leystone.
- 45:05Nick (Pat): Correct. I'm not much of a spell caster, Wendell, but this that feels crazy. That feels
- 45:11Justin (GM): high level. That well, very it's this is impressive magic. Don't get me wrong. I think that's all pretty evident.
- 45:18Nick (Pat): Can I do an insight check to see if Wendell's intimidated by the spell caster that did this?
- 45:22Justin (GM): Yeah. Absolutely. That's an 18 on the die. What a useless 18. No.
- 45:29There's no such thing. I don't think intimidated is the right word.
- 45:34Nick (Pat): Okay.
- 45:34Justin (GM): I think whenever presented with impressive feats of magic, Wendell is impressed.
- 45:41Nick (Pat): Gotcha.
- 45:41Justin (GM): Cool. I think with an 18
- 45:43Nick (Pat): Short king.
- 45:44Justin (GM): You also yeah. You would also get that, I think, short of a absolute negative harming of others
- 45:52Justin (GM): Mhmm.
- 45:53Justin (GM): Use of magic, Wendell would probably not be intimidated. Gotcha. If a powerful spell is cast, Wendell will just be impressed by the power. That's cool.
- 46:01Nick (Pat): Yeah. Okay.
- 46:02Justin (GM): Yeah. That doesn't necessarily mean that others would be
- 46:05Nick (Pat): slash danger is the line. Yes. Gotcha.
- 46:09Justin (GM): I I think he would recognize danger. I don't think he would recognize evil. Gotcha. He would recognize danger. Yeah.
- 46:15And because both of these spells only impact yourself, well, mostly Yeah. They he's he's not going to register Sure. The danger aspect of
- 46:26Nick (Pat): it. Gotcha.
- 46:27Justin (GM): That's well, an interesting application of both of these spells, I hardly understand I I hardly understand why someone would go about this. It seems like a lot of work for storing something away.
- 46:38Eric (Bunky): It it it does, but I I could see the appeal of of maybe wanting to create a a backup of yourself, so to speak. Maybe maybe someone trying to find ways to, to maybe cheat around death or, or trying to keep themselves hidden or stored or, find other ways to, to hold on to their life in case something were to happen.
- 47:07Justin (GM): But both of those spells by themselves would accomplish that goal. Why is this person interested in using them in combination?
- 47:14Eric (Bunky): That's a really great question, Wendell. And I I I don't know. This is this is all very new and very fascinating. I would be more Bunkie's eyes are kinda like his googly eyes are kinda like shifting back and forth as he's considering all the implications. He's I would be very eager to explore this with you in in more depth.
- 47:35Justin (GM): Oh, I we'd have to make particular appointments. This is not something we can really do with a lot of campers around, so we'll have to make sure that whenever we do study it, the campers are preoccupied. I I
- 47:49Eric (Bunky): under I understand. Yes. I I also can look into some things on my own too and and try to come back with some more more ideas, more applications, and more theories as to the purpose of the combination.
- 48:02Justin (GM): That's interesting.
- 48:04Nick (Pat): So we found this under a toad, which feels weird now that we know it's crazy high magic, like complicated magic. We found it where where Evander found Yankster Braid. Oh. It was with that same pixie at the toadstool court.
- 48:20Justin (GM): Seems like Yanks Yerbaid might have some information about this.
- 48:23Nick (Pat): Might could. They were hiding it.
- 48:26Justin (GM): Was hiding it?
- 48:27Nick (Pat): Or The court was.
- 48:29Justin (GM): Oh. So Yanks Yerbaid might not know
- 48:31Nick (Pat): a I think I think Yanks only cared about leaving the court. Mhmm. Thus, you know, the relationship.
- 48:39Justin (GM): He did not apply to work here, so it's interesting that he's here, but maybe fortunate.
- 48:45Nick (Pat): Maybe. He and Fortunate's a way of thinking about it.
- 48:49Eric (Bunky): Mhmm. He and Evandria are kind of connected in a way it seems.
- 48:54Nick (Pat): Tethered maybe. Tethered.
- 48:55Eric (Bunky): Yeah. Yeah. They've they've got something going there.
- 48:58Nick (Pat): Yeah. That was there was some there was some magic there, actually. Come to think of it, there was some magic there now that I'm remembering there. She kinda went off in a tree and talked to yanks and community's tether went awry. And I'm not sure what happened there, but now where there be of Andrea, be yanks.
- 49:18Interesting. And you found this at
- 49:20Justin (GM): the toad and then just thought to bring it back?
- 49:23Nick (Pat): Got Harrier.
- 49:24Justin (GM): No. There's no hair on this.
- 49:26Nick (Pat): Classic. Have you thought about doing stand up?
- 49:28Justin (GM): No. Thought about it? Stand up like on a chair?
- 49:33Nick (Pat): Yeah. My gosh. Do we get
- 49:36Justin (GM): He gets up on a chair.
- 49:37Nick (Pat): We've gotta get you in front of the campers doing, like, a routine. My goodness.
- 49:42Justin (GM): I I can talk to Mala, I suppose. Absolutely. Would
- 49:45Nick (Pat): Mala's in charge of schedule them book them book them.
- 49:47Justin (GM): Activity. Who needs a bard? Who needs a bard?
- 49:49Nick (Pat): Who needs a bard?
- 49:50Justin (GM): Things that I've I think points to a book called Who Needs a Bard by Wendell draft two.
- 49:57Nick (Pat): What do
- 49:57Justin (GM): what do you mean by Harrier?
- 49:59Eric (Bunky): It's that things things just got a little complicated and we we may have had to grab it and run-in a hurry. It it wasn't
- 50:08Justin (GM): From the from the ferry court? Yes. We
- 50:13Nick (Pat): procured it. And then later on, my memory serves me correctly, we took it along our questing journey towards the Saylor Chateau and that's when things got
- 50:23Eric (Bunky): It had some reactions. Yeah.
- 50:26Nick (Pat): Wild. Spooky.
- 50:27Justin (GM): Reactions are important to note. Say more.
- 50:31Nick (Pat): I walked into a room and almost got charmed, like I wanted to fall asleep and never wake up. And the room like a rune in the middle of it and a bunch of skeletons that looked
- 50:40Justin (GM): at me. A a rune?
- 50:41Nick (Pat): Yes. A rune.
- 50:43Justin (GM): Do you think it's possible to recreate this rune? Was it reactive? I could not.
- 50:48Eric (Bunky): Oh, I I remember the rune. We we we could I I could absolutely recreate that for you. Yeah. I'd I'd be happy to.
- 50:53Justin (GM): Give me an Arcana check. 23.
- 50:57Nick (Pat): Jesus Christ.
- 50:58Justin (GM): He hands you a sheet of paper and a quill and ink. Please, if you could do your best recreate the rune. I won't it's been a year. I I I imagine it might be quite a lot, but go ahead.
- 51:11Eric (Bunky): Bunky curls his fingers around the quill and kinda, like, crushes it. He's not very good with with this type. Could I just do it in the dirt for you instead? Oh.
- 51:23Justin (GM): Oh, I I suppose. Yes. He kind of closes things up, takes a minute or two to dust off the the salt circles that he's created so that no one can activate his magic circle without him present. Puts the lay stone back behind the magic circle and takes you guys upstairs, locks the door, and takes you upstairs and presents you with a patch of dirt.
- 51:46Eric (Bunky): Now Bunky bends his pipe cleaner fingers into the form of the rune with two lines going down and curving out along with a slash through the middle and then with his other arm doing three dots, one on either side and one underneath the arch that was created.
- 52:06Justin (GM): Go ahead and give me a constitution saving throw. Three. As you finish the final dots, you feel a sickening push, almost like when you kind of reach the top of a roller coaster and your stomach kind of lurches up as you kind of take the first plummet. Except instead of going upwards, it's like pushing you don't have innards, but pushes what you kind of perceive to be yourself away. And in that same instance, you take three points of
- 52:44Nick (Pat): Woah. Woah. Woah. Woah. Woah.
- 52:46Woah.
- 52:46Justin (GM): What's going on? And Wendell takes his wing and like immediately moves the dirt and destroys the ruin. What just happened? Do never. I I understand that we asked for this.
- 52:58Please, Bunky, are you okay?
- 53:01Eric (Bunky): I I yeah. I'll I'll be okay. I wasn't expecting that. It caught me more off guard than anything, but it did not feel good.
- 53:10Justin (GM): That rune is an incredibly powerful spell. It also serves as like a type of expulsion spell. I imagine that when you completed it unaware of what you were doing, you were unable to direct its energy at anything, and it might have responded to you in particular, Bunky, given your nature.
- 53:30Eric (Bunky): I I I I didn't know I needed to direct it. I I I thought since I wasn't giving any intention behind it that it wouldn't take any effect and it was gonna be more more artistic than the actual application.
- 53:43Justin (GM): He goes and grabs a tome from a nearby shelf, flitters through a couple of pages, and presents it both to you. And you see it has on it the delayed fireball spell on it, which I believe is an eighth level spell. And he kind of uses his wand to show you that a portion of that spell, the rune is located in the larger rune of that spell. Wow. Kind of like how a word comprises a sentence.
- 54:16The expulsion rune that you just drew is located inside the larger rune of delayed fireball. Woah. He says, this portion of the rune is actually what kind of pushes the original fireball spell out of this delayed fireball spell.
- 54:33Nick (Pat): So why would that be on the floor of a castle? I I don't know.
- 54:37Justin (GM): And you said it there were skeletons in there?
- 54:39Nick (Pat): Yes. There were they we actually fought a lot of them. Oh. And they were real concerned about the leystone.
- 54:46Justin (GM): I will think I think this goes without saying, but please do not return to the Saylor Chateau. It's outside of campgrounds.
- 54:56Nick (Pat): Absolutely.
- 54:56Justin (GM): But dangers happen on questing rituals, so I can't fault you for that. But, let's keep the visits to the Saylor Chateau to myself and Mazi for the time being. We'll take that portion of the investigation further. I appreciate, Bunkie, your offer to do further investigations in the Corrupted La Zon. I'm happy to work with you on that.
- 55:15And, Pat, if you are willing and interested in joining, I won't stop you from there, but please stay away from the Saylor Chateau. If they have portions of this spell written elsewhere, I fear that they might have full renditions of this spell listed elsewhere.
- 55:29Eric (Bunky): Sure. Understood.
- 55:31Justin (GM): Speaking of going a far distance, and he puts that larger tome back and grabs a bag of, small little clinky things and, hands it to you, Bunky. He says, oh, I'm responsible for divvying these out. These are your warble marbles. They will serve as kind of Warble marbles. Warble marbles.
- 55:53It must be hard having loose lips. Beaks are much more efficient at articulation. Yeah. These warble marbles will allow you to speak to your fellow staffers. We all have them and he pulls out a small cat's eye marble from his pouch.
- 56:08It has a public channel and private channels
- 56:11Nick (Pat): Oh, cool.
- 56:12Justin (GM): That you can use to contact people. I know that sending stones aren't as reliable out here in the deeper forest, but these short wave radio warble marbles should allow you to contact each other without any flaws. Do you think you'll be able to distribute those things, monkey? Warble marbles. Oh.
- 56:29Eric (Bunky): Bunky has opened the the pouch and a little bit of the light has gleamed in inside and reflected a little bit of a shine off the marbles. Oh, yeah. Yeah. I'll be able to hand these out.
- 56:42Justin (GM): Right. There should be one enough in there for everyone.
- 56:44Nick (Pat): One I'll
- 56:47Eric (Bunky): I'll get I'll get one for you later, pal. Okay.
- 56:49Nick (Pat): Got it.
- 56:50Eric (Bunky): Yeah. I I just wanna make sure that we all have our options because they're not all the same.
- 56:58Justin (GM): They all look different. Yes.
- 56:59Nick (Pat): They're they're they
- 57:02Eric (Bunky): all work this. I just
- 57:03Justin (GM): want Actually, green one does stick a little bit on channel three other than that
- 57:08Eric (Bunky): Sure.
- 57:09Justin (GM): All that's the same.
- 57:10Eric (Bunky): I I just wanna see which one will have the have the best reflection
- 57:14Justin (GM): on it. If if you don't mind, Pat,
- 57:16Nick (Pat): if I Absolutely. I I mean, honestly, if you wanna pick which one feels best for each individual as like a little bit of like a gifty sort of deal, I'm happy to let you just kinda pick who gets what.
- 57:27Eric (Bunky): Oh, that sounds great. Bunky's eyes, they they can't really widen as googly eyes but they do kinda like a little like circle around. Oh, I I can I can definitely choose the best ones for everyone? I can do that. Oh, they're beautiful.
- 57:42Justin (GM): I do appreciate both of your helps with this. And if I've if I need anything else, I will be sure to hit the both of you up because frankly, you you both performed exquisitely.
- 57:52Nick (Pat): Thanks for letting us help, Wendell.
- 57:53Eric (Bunky): Thanks, Wendell.
- 58:02Justin (GM): You all approach the Evergreen Center and Pavilion. It is this large building that is nestled up against the great woods. You can see trees, thick forests next to it. There are large one way windows, on the Evergreen Center that allow people on the inside to see into the woods without disturbing any possible wildlife. There are various pens set up that allow for Patrick and whatever staff members are assigned to the Evergreen Center this summer.
- 58:36It is of Andrea to tend to various animals that sometimes are there permanently, sometimes are there only temporarily if they are injured to tend to them. There is also a stable that allows for a couple of horses to stay. There is a large roost where Patrick's Griffin stays as well. The Evergreen Center is always a bustle with various animal life. There is a pavilion that serves as a druidic hedge for nature magic as well, nestled, just in inside of the great woods themselves.
- 59:16The wood is mixed with large pieces of stone, and there is an intricate magical system that just as dusk hits will alight the area with a soft warm glow. But it's not dusk now. It's midday, and you all approach, as the sun kind of hits its zenith and the summer heat is beginning to really catch on. You see Patrick out. He's got his sleeves rolled up, and he kind of gives you all a wave.
- 59:48Oh, hey. Glad glad you guys, got out here so quick.
- 59:52Jamie (Eleanore): Hi,
- 59:52Kayla (Evandria): sir. Well, we watched you sprint over here.
- 59:55Justin (GM): Yeah. I just didn't wanna didn't wanna waste any time. So, like I said, I I have a couple of things I need investigating and so, he gestures over to this green tarp that is overlaid on top of something underneath. And he says, now I I wanna warn you, if you're squeamish, this could be could be alarming.
- 1:00:19Jamie (Eleanore): Is this safe, whatever you're having us do?
- 1:00:22Justin (GM): Oh, yes. Yes. I I can imagine it.
- 1:00:24Jamie (Eleanore): Like we can't die from whatever is about to happen.
- 1:00:26Justin (GM): No. With the three of us, there's nothing we can't do.
- 1:00:29Kayla (Evandria): People have died here before. So
- 1:00:31Jamie (Eleanore): That made me feel
- 1:00:32Justin (GM): better. That?
- 1:00:33Jamie (Eleanore): No. Not what she said.
- 1:00:35Justin (GM): I'm good.
- 1:00:35Jamie (Eleanore): What I said That actually scares me. So But I've heard it so much We have to
- 1:00:40Justin (GM): find Cassius.
- 1:00:41Justin (GM): That is
- 1:00:42Kayla (Evandria): starts walking over and takes a peek under the tarp.
- 1:00:47Justin (GM): Underneath the tarp, you see a mangled up carcass of a wolf. It looks at least a couple of days old, but with just a peek, it's hard to say more information. He says, oh, yeah. Well, if you don't if everyone's ready and he takes the tarp off and the both of you, Eleanor and Malice Cool. It's pretty shocking.
- 1:01:15What did it? Well, that's part of what I want your assistance with. I've kind of drawn my own conclusions, but I wouldn't hate a second opinion.
- 1:01:24Kayla (Evandria): Was it you?
- 1:01:25Justin (GM): He looks you dead in the eye and says, no.
- 1:01:28Kayla (Evandria): Just checking.
- 1:01:29Justin (GM): But it's good to, I guess, keep all options open. And it also wasn't steadfast either. Referencing his Griffin.
- 1:01:38Jamie (Eleanore): Eleanor, this is not her jam. She feels a little ill, but
- 1:01:47Kayla (Evandria): okay.
- 1:01:47Jamie (Eleanore): Alright. We can you want us to figure out, like, what caused this?
- 1:01:52Justin (GM): Well, I like I said, I have a couple of ideas, and he kind of pulls out a wilderness user guide that he has, and you can see that there are a couple of dog eared pages. And he says, I would be interested in kind of seeing what information you ascertained, and I've kind of set some traps. And afterwards, I think all of us can go into the woods and try to hunt whatever's doing this down.
- 1:02:20Jamie (Eleanore): I mean, yeah. Okay. I roll an investigation check.
- 1:02:25Justin (GM): Yep. I'll take an investigation check. I'll take nature checks. I'll take medicine checks from anyone and everyone.
- 1:02:30Justin (GM): Can I roll it as, can I use survival for this
- 1:02:34Justin (GM): as 100%? Solid.
- 1:02:36Jamie (Eleanore): Yeah. Eleanor ruled an 18 in investigation.
- 1:02:38Kayla (Evandria): Evandria got a 13 in investigation.
- 1:02:42Justin (GM): 13 survival. 13 survival.
- 1:02:44Justin (GM): So let's do our investigations first. We had eighteen and thirteen investigation. The things that you were able to ascertain with that, you noticed that the wolf has multiple puncture wounds on its hind quarters in addition to multiple gashes. It definitely died from, like, a blood loss and the gashes along its chest and body, but the puncture wounds on its hind quarters definitely show some evidence of necrosis as well. So something else happened here related to some type of poison or some type of necromancy.
- 1:03:27What's the necro damage? Necrotic? Thank you. Some necrotic damage in addition to whatever scratches or bite marks happened.
- 1:03:38Jamie (Eleanore): With an 18, can I tell whether those punctures that look necrotic are stab wounds, or are those teeth marks, or are those scratch
- 1:03:47Justin (GM): That is with an 18, all you can tell is that they are puncture wounds? It's hard to tell what they what the source of them are. They're not, like, large. They they are maybe no more than, like, a quarter centimeter in diameter.
- 1:04:02Jamie (Eleanore): And is it, like, a pattern? Like, am I seeing, like, groups of two? Am I seeing one?
- 1:04:06Justin (GM): Yeah. Looks like a patch, like, seven or eight in just like one area.
- 1:04:12Kayla (Evandria): Evandria, upon seeing these puncture wounds, immediately bends, like, crouches down on the ground and starts getting out every single weapon from her belt and hidden in her socks and her shoes. She has one in, like, a fake portion of her shoe, and she's she's just preparing, making sure she has all the weapons in place.
- 1:04:33Justin (GM): Wow, Livandrea. That's that's an impressive amount of weapons.
- 1:04:36Kayla (Evandria): Yeah.
- 1:04:37Justin (GM): That's he looks genuinely impressed.
- 1:04:40Kayla (Evandria): Well, you never know what you're gonna encounter out there, especially with something like this.
- 1:04:44Justin (GM): I I originally was concerned when I noticed how many prey were kind of behaving oddly, but two days ago when I found this wolf, I knew that something was definitely off. So, yeah, I I agree. And Mala, what did you get on your survival check?
- 1:05:03Justin (GM): 13.
- 1:05:04Justin (GM): 13. You notice that the wolf has the foam itself is kind of gone, but you can see that its mouth is extremely red and that it has been biting its tongue. And a wolf wouldn't do that unless it was under a lot of, like, pain. So something was happening to this wolf that was it was under a lot of pain or something was happening to its mind that was making it act erratically. So prior to its death, something was going on with this wolf that was impacting its mind.
- 1:05:43Jamie (Eleanore): Could I use like an arcana check to see if I sense any magic?
- 1:05:48Justin (GM): I'll I'll let Mala kind of react to this
- 1:05:50Jamie (Eleanore): Oh, okay.
- 1:05:50Justin (GM): I'm sorry. No. No. You're fine. I'll we'll pick that up after that.
- 1:05:53Justin (GM): Mal's gonna bite his tongue really hard to see how much it hurts.
- 1:05:56Justin (GM): Okay. Roll a d 20 for me. Just one. I don't know what that means. You bite extremely hard.
- 1:06:07Just so I think Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh.
- 1:06:12Nick (Pat): What what happened? Did you you can tell it
- 1:06:16Justin (GM): was biting its tongue, so I tried to bite my tongue to see what it felt like to see like what would cause it to do that and it it was not enjoyable, so it had to be out of its mind. God had
- 1:06:27Kayla (Evandria): a sense of humor.
- 1:06:28Justin (GM): Patrick kind of nods up and down. Yeah. I think that makes sense. The Well, I I did actually didn't notice that
- 1:06:37Justin (GM): How could you not? Look how red its mouth is. Oh, there's like blood and other stuff just like pouring out of it.
- 1:06:42Justin (GM): Yeah. That that makes sense.
- 1:06:44Jamie (Eleanore): And all the puncture wounds too, like Oh. That's probably what was causing all the pain.
- 1:06:49Justin (GM): Wait. Let me see your book. What do you have, Mark?
- 1:06:52Justin (GM): You open up his book and he has a couple of things marked. He has giant poisonous frog, the masher, He has the weed eel marked. He has a creature called a porcelaina marked, and he has a creature called the ghast marked.
- 1:07:18Jamie (Eleanore): It's definitely not a Porcelaina.
- 1:07:21Justin (GM): Oh. Oh. Well, given the puncture wounds, I I don't know. They they have pretty nasty teeth, and they have, like, kind of their fur is kind of quill like.
- 1:07:30Kayla (Evandria): Kind of or actually?
- 1:07:31Justin (GM): Well, actually.
- 1:07:32Kayla (Evandria): Okay, Patrick.
- 1:07:33Justin (GM): Can I like go through the book real quick and see if like I could determine which one makes the most logical sense since Patrick seems completely inept at his job?
- 1:07:40Justin (GM): Yeah. Give me a relevant check. I'll take survival or nature with advantage since you have his little handy Boy Scout book. 14 survival? 14 survival.
- 1:07:52I think you can definitely knock out the ghast. It's more of a ghost like creature. Poisonous frog, they do have like horns, like small horns. So that is a viable option given all the information that you have. Weed eels are not probably going to be what you're looking for.
- 1:08:13The masher is is a poisonous creature, but is not going to be able to take down a wolf, especially not on its own. So you're really kind of leaving this up to the giant poisonous frog and porcelaina. The issue that you might see with a porcelaina though is one porcelaina is probably not gonna be able to do that. They, by themselves, probably qualify as prey creatures, but they can travel in herds, and a herd of porcelaina might pose as a problem to a wolf.
- 1:08:49Kayla (Evandria): Guys, I think maybe we should get a bit of a height advantage. I can go climb that tree and let you know if I see anything.
- 1:08:56Justin (GM): I did set some traps earlier too.
- 1:08:58Kayla (Evandria): Oh, perfect. Are we able to observe the traps?
- 1:09:01Justin (GM): I can take you to them.
- 1:09:02Kayla (Evandria): Perfect. Yeah.
- 1:09:03Justin (GM): Also, I wanna go back to Eleanor. You had requested an arcana check.
- 1:09:08Jamie (Eleanore): 17.
- 1:09:09Justin (GM): With a 17, you are able to rule out any existing arcane. You don't see any, like, sigils on anything. You're not seeing any spell component evidence on this wolf. I will say that you heard Patrick earlier say that he recovered this wolf carcass two days ago, so there is some chance that any of the spell components or things that, might be related to spells could have, just naturally, fallen off or something like that, but nothing with that check is kind of jumping out to you. This does seem natural in nature.
- 1:09:51The necrosis is probably poison of some sort.
- 1:09:54Jamie (Eleanore): I don't I'm looking and I don't see anything that could be any magic related. Patrick, when you found the wolf, did you notice anything that maybe wasn't just, you know, normal poison or physical damage? Anything magical?
- 1:10:08Justin (GM): I did consider I I had the ghast as a possible predator in this situation, although it seemed kind of unlikely they tend to hunt more intelligent prey. While wolves are are themselves quite intelligent in comparison to animals, I don't think that the Ghast themselves would necessarily hunt one out. I didn't want to entirely rule it out as an option, but I I I also kind of came to that conclusion. Okay. But I appreciate your checking.
- 1:10:39It shows that I think we've kind of covered all ends.
- 1:10:42Justin (GM): Yeah. The the book says it's not gonna be it's probably gonna be the porcelain or the giant frog.
- 1:10:47Jamie (Eleanore): Okay. Should we go check the traps, I guess, that you've set up, Patrick?
- 1:10:50Justin (GM): I think that would be that would be good.
- 1:10:52Justin (GM): I look at Andrea and the trees though just in case they're still out there and they possibly, you know, sneak up on us.
- 1:10:58Kayla (Evandria): Yeah. Sure. She immediately scampers up a tree.
- 1:11:01Justin (GM): Give me an athletics check to tell me how that immediately goes.
- 1:11:06Kayla (Evandria): 17.
- 1:11:06Justin (GM): Yeah. You make your way up a tree. The three of us start to make our way down a trail that is very easy to navigate. This is the beginning oh.
- 1:11:18Jamie (Eleanore): Is Yanks here? Sorry.
- 1:11:19Justin (GM): Yanks is not here. Okay. Good question. He is you get the idea that Yanks is going to avoid any amount of actual labor that he can, particularly when that labor puts him in any sort of danger. He did things like the CPR training because he thinks that's fun and novel.
- 1:11:35Mhmm. But outside of the realm of novel experiences, he's probably not gonna be doing a lot of work. Okay.
- 1:11:42Jamie (Eleanore): We'll never see him actually giving CPR.
- 1:11:44Justin (GM): Absolutely not. And if you do, based on how his certification went, I would consider that a concerning situation for sure.
- 1:11:52Kayla (Evandria): Hey, Mala.
- 1:11:54Nick (Pat): Yeah. What do you need?
- 1:11:55Kayla (Evandria): I see your pigeon.
- 1:11:57Nick (Pat): It's a phoenix.
- 1:11:58Kayla (Evandria): I can see it from up here.
- 1:12:00Nick (Pat): Give him a call. He'll come say hi.
- 1:12:02Justin (GM): That's not good try. What do you want Jar to be doing? What do you want Jar's general behavior to be
- 1:12:11Justin (GM): during this? I mean, technically, he's a familiar. Yeah. So I can No. Because I'll go unconscious.
- 1:12:16Justin (GM): Well, I don't know what Yeah. Thoughts you had between those things.
- 1:12:20Justin (GM): Like, I was gonna walk and use him to
- 1:12:23Justin (GM): like see, but I can't. It's like, what are you talking about? What are you gonna go unconscious for?
- 1:12:27Jamie (Eleanore): Is it something where you can show him a picture of the two creatures?
- 1:12:31Justin (GM): I'll have Jar fly like a like cautionary pattern in the sky and just if something goes wrong, he'll instantly like come to our aid.
- 1:12:38Justin (GM): Noted. You all walk for twenty, thirty minutes going into the Great Woods, and the Great Woods itself is composed of the large trees that really prevent a lot of underbrush from taking hold. There are these massive canopies that create large shade, and there are evergreen trees. There are a mix of deciduous trees. I think those might be the same as evergreen trees.
- 1:13:10And every once in a while, there's like a little stream. And, as Patrick is kind of walking you through, he's kind of regaling you with the things that he has seen in the last couple of weeks. And he says, I'm you know, I understand that, you know, things will change, and I haven't been here very long, but the construction that X Camp is doing has really disrupted a lot of the animals here in the Great Woods. A lot of creatures that were on the other side of the river making their way over here, it's been pretty disruptive. I think whatever this creature is probably was from over there and has made its way to this side of the river.
- 1:13:57Jamie (Eleanore): And if it's a porcelaina, it's probably traveling in a herd. And if it's a frog, do those travel in packs?
- 1:14:04Justin (GM): Yeah. I I I don't think giant poisonous frogs are the ones who travel in packs, but porcelainas definitely do.
- 1:14:12Jamie (Eleanore): I don't think one toad could have done that.
- 1:14:14Justin (GM): If it's a giant toad.
- 1:14:16Jamie (Eleanore): I don't Okay.
- 1:14:17Justin (GM): I would have imagined it would have eaten it.
- 1:14:20Justin (GM): That big?
- 1:14:21Justin (GM): Well, giant. It's a wolf.
- 1:14:23Justin (GM): It's a big wolf.
- 1:14:24Justin (GM): Oh, it's no dire wolf. We don't have those in the Great Woods.
- 1:14:27Justin (GM): There's a lot of things in the Great Woods that I don't think we know what's out here.
- 1:14:30Justin (GM): I think at that, Patrick is gonna roll an insight check. He At best, he rolled a three and I think I
- 1:14:42Justin (GM): think Mal was clearly looking at the castle that we were in.
- 1:14:44Justin (GM): Yeah. That like unknown. Yeah. Patrick has no idea that you might be referencing something bigger. And he says, oh, yeah.
- 1:14:54I guess Evandria.
- 1:14:56Kayla (Evandria): What's up, Patty boy?
- 1:14:58Justin (GM): We should consider cataloging the things that we see in the great woods.
- 1:15:02Kayla (Evandria): I mean, I guess, if we're like nerds.
- 1:15:07Justin (GM): But like, no, really. Start writing down the things that you see.
- 1:15:12Kayla (Evandria): Whatever, Ks. Thank you.
- 1:15:15Justin (GM): As they're yelling, I wanna do like a full sweep to see if like there's rustling in the bushes or something like coming towards us. Like Yeah. This we're supposed to be on alert and now they're screaming.
- 1:15:25Justin (GM): Yeah. Yeah. Give me a perception check. Oh, Jesus. Oh, 17.
- 1:15:2917. You see a couple of like birds fly out, but nothing too large is is spooked by these larger sounds.
- 1:15:39Kayla (Evandria): Can Evandria say anything from her vantage point?
- 1:15:42Justin (GM): Yeah. Give me a perception check with advantage.
- 1:15:45Kayla (Evandria): K.
- 1:15:48Justin (GM): You, I think are finding the tops of the trees maybe a bit more difficult to move around in than you initially expected. And the act of moving from tree to tree is taking a bit more of your focus. You are able to see that, you guys are getting a medium distance into the Great Woods. Nothing that would be considered outside of camp grounds at this point, but nothing that you have seen would classify as a creature that could kill a a wolf at this point. But, you do see that there is a trap ahead of you, and that trap has been sprung.
- 1:16:35Kayla (Evandria): Hey. Oh. Trap ahead.
- 1:16:38Justin (GM): Oh, yeah. I I said it right up here. And he gestures to a a trap that is clearly a, actually like a pretty well done rope trap. And it has he's dug a pit and has a rope that was fashioned that was clearly meant to grab a creature as it walked over the pit.
- 1:17:01Justin (GM): This rope is clearly not big enough for a giant frog.
- 1:17:03Justin (GM): You see Patrick doing some basic math in his head and he says, well, yeah, I set this one up for the ghast. The other rope that I set up was for the giant frog.
- 1:17:15Justin (GM): Is it can't the gas just phase through things?
- 1:17:19Justin (GM): Well, I sprinkled some holy water on on the rope just in case, that's why it's for the gas. But now that I say all this, I I'm thinking that maybe I should have set up all of the the ropes for all of the creatures.
- 1:17:32Jamie (Eleanore): Eleanor wants to get a little bit closer, and just perception check, I guess, to see if she can hear anything in there.
- 1:17:42Justin (GM): Yeah. Yeah. Go ahead and give me a perception check.
- 1:17:45Kayla (Evandria): 10.
- 1:17:46Justin (GM): 10. You don't hear anything, but the trap has been sprung, as I mentioned earlier. And, with the 10, you can see that, whatever sprang sprung this trap, it caught it. And that after catching it, it was able to get free. Likely with the help is maybe a strong word, but other things were able to, work with the trap or manipulate the track.
- 1:18:19You can see there are, some gnaw marks, on a portion of it that was able to, like, loosen it, and the creature that it had caught was able to free itself as a result.
- 1:18:28Jamie (Eleanore): Okay. I feel like this means that we're looking for porcelainas.
- 1:18:31Justin (GM): I think you're right.
- 1:18:33Jamie (Eleanore): Patrick, do you want us to find the porcelainas and take care of them?
- 1:18:37Justin (GM): Well, I I did bring he kind of rustles in his pack and pulls out a few, little syringes and some blow darts. And he says, well, I think that we should really relocate them if they're doing this much of a problem. If they're causing this much of a problem in the local environment, we should really relocate them.
- 1:18:59Nick (Pat): Evandria, we're looking for porcelainas.
- 1:19:02Kayla (Evandria): She immediately drops from the tree.
- 1:19:04Justin (GM): Give me an acrobatics check. Actually, give me a dexterity saving throw. That's a more appropriate
- 1:19:10Kayla (Evandria): That would be a six with a nat one.
- 1:19:15Justin (GM): The sound of Evandria coming down from the tree, I think startles Patrick at first. And he draws his weapon immediately, dropping the various was
- 1:19:29Justin (GM): like, go to catch them. Like, just dive out for them.
- 1:19:31Justin (GM): Yeah. Mollig grabs the various they have caps on them. He's not that bad. And you grab the various syringes. You do notice that, like, Patrick has a pretty nice sword.
- 1:19:42He's not like like, This guy's a good ranger somehow, if not like the brightest tool in the shed. And but once he sees Evandria, you don't have to have intelligence to be a ranger. I just wanna point that out. He you take one damage from this fall, and he says, Avandria, are you okay?
- 1:20:08Kayla (Evandria): Yeah. She immediately jumps up and brushes herself off acting like she meant to do that the entire time.
- 1:20:15Justin (GM): Oh, there's no reason to be. I've fallen out of many trees.
- 1:20:19Kayla (Evandria): You're not necessarily one that I look up to, Patrick.
- 1:20:22Justin (GM): Well You know, we really
- 1:20:23Justin (GM): should start looking for this now. Okay.
- 1:20:27Jamie (Eleanore): You guys, what we need to do, we need bait. One of us needs to be bait.
- 1:20:31Justin (GM): Alright. I'll do it.
- 1:20:32Jamie (Eleanore): Okay. What I think you should do
- 1:20:34Kayla (Evandria): I think that's a good job for you.
- 1:20:36Justin (GM): Mhmm.
- 1:20:36Jamie (Eleanore): Patrick, you, and Evandria will kind of set up a little perimeter and kind of get out of the way. Mala, if you can stand right here and she indicates to where they're standing right now by the trap. If you can just start howling like a wolf, I think that could draw them in.
- 1:20:56Justin (GM): Wait. Should we hide? We should hide first.
- 1:20:58Jamie (Eleanore): Actually, he makes a good point. Mala makes a good point. Who else can howl?
- 1:21:05Justin (GM): I can howl. Patrick raises his hand.
- 1:21:08Jamie (Eleanore): Yeah. Let's hear it.
- 1:21:10Justin (GM): Okay.
- 1:21:14Jamie (Eleanore): Patrick is bait.
- 1:21:15Justin (GM): What?
- 1:21:16Jamie (Eleanore): That was a much better howl.
- 1:21:17Justin (GM): Oh, thank you.
- 1:21:17Jamie (Eleanore): You're gonna beat bait.
- 1:21:18Justin (GM): He can howl and I'll just be standing there.
- 1:21:21Jamie (Eleanore): If that's, yeah. I guess,
- 1:21:23Justin (GM): you have the syringe
- 1:21:24Kayla (Evandria): and advantage I could I could get on your back, Eleanor, and you. Yeah.
- 1:21:29Justin (GM): I'll allow it. He hands each of the three of you a blow dart and kind of looks to you, Molla, to pass out the syringes.
- 1:21:39Justin (GM): Yeah. I'll hand everyone a syringe, including Patrick. He gets one.
- 1:21:41Justin (GM): There are many syringes. I wanna be clear. Okay.
- 1:21:44Justin (GM): Everybody gets one.
- 1:21:45Justin (GM): You have like a little little belt full of syringes if you're of Andrea. And it says, just one quick application of these should take down any creature, you know, poisonous frog, porcelino, whatever shows up. I I made a pretty catch all here for that. So
- 1:22:05Jamie (Eleanore): So we should take off all the caps?
- 1:22:06Justin (GM): Yeah. Take off the caps first.
- 1:22:08Justin (GM): Yep. Tape, Eleanor?
- 1:22:11Jamie (Eleanore): I have rope, twine.
- 1:22:13Justin (GM): A a real woodland tape. A woodland men's tape. A rope? A woodman's tape. The rope.
- 1:22:21A woodman's tape. Can I borrow some rope?
- 1:22:24Kayla (Evandria): I have some in my hair. She immediately a piece of her hair with her small chunk of rope.
- 1:22:31Justin (GM): I'm gonna take a syringe with rope and wrap it around so that each of my gauntlets have a syringe on the front of it. Punch the syringe into something. Great.
- 1:22:40Jamie (Eleanore): Oh, that's a good idea. I take my woodman's tape and I attach my syringes to a couple of arrows.
- 1:22:47Justin (GM): Great. Love that.
- 1:22:49Kayla (Evandria): Don't fray my rope, Mala.
- 1:22:51Justin (GM): You guys all we all get set up and, Patrick is going to, start howling. Mala, you are setting up as the physical bait, and a period of time goes by, you also see that Patrick hands you just like slabs of meat that he has as like
- 1:23:12Justin (GM): Kinda rub them all over myself.
- 1:23:14Justin (GM): Oh, you could just rubbing
- 1:23:16Justin (GM): it on myself. Okay. Head to toe.
- 1:23:19Justin (GM): And we're gonna roll a survival check. Go ahead and roll a survival check with advantage, Mala. We'll have you roll it. This was just gonna represent how much time passes before the porcelain show up.
- 1:23:33Justin (GM): 19. 19.
- 1:23:37Justin (GM): Patrick, Eleanor, and Evandria all get into position. Patrick starts howling and not thirty minutes pass before eight porcelinas all start to rustle their way out of a bush. And porcelinas are, at first, appear to be these fuzzy little piglets with maybe overly wide split mouths that go a little bit beyond their ears, and they are sniffing the air pretty innocently when they first come out of the bush. But the instant they make eye contact with what they have identified as the source of their smell, which is the source of the scent, which is mala, their mouths their overly wide mouths split open, you can see the rows of teeth that are inside of their mouths. And the fur that was on their skin that is speckled and spotted begins to, like, respond to their muscles and starts to point outwards and now looks a little bit more quill like than before.
- 1:24:50Patrick whispers, they're I think you saw earlier, but their quills are are technically poisonous, so don't let get them don't let them get too close.
- 1:24:59Kayla (Evandria): Avantria immediately tries to blow dart one.
- 1:25:02Justin (GM): Alright. Go ahead and give me a attack roll. Eleanor, if you're going to shoot, give me an attack roll, and they're going to rush at you.
- 1:25:10Justin (GM): You're picky picky picky picky picky.
- 1:25:11Justin (GM): Great. Go ahead and give me an attack roll for you as well.
- 1:25:14Justin (GM): This is be one of the nice syringe punches. Yep.
- 1:25:17Kayla (Evandria): These dice just 17.
- 1:25:19Justin (GM): The last time. 17.
- 1:25:21Justin (GM): 20. 13. All three of you each take down one porcelaina. There are five porcelainas left. Unfortunately, that does mean that five porcelainas get to Mala.
- 1:25:35Kayla (Evandria): Does Patrick do anything? Yes. Thank you.
- 1:25:38Justin (GM): No. He's worthless.
- 1:25:40Kayla (Evandria): I wasn't I wouldn't have been surprised.
- 1:25:42Justin (GM): Thank you for calling that up because Patrick did get a nat 20. Patrick takes two arrows at once in his bow and fires and gets two porcelainas down. He does this in a way that just seems extremely casual. He does not register that he has done anything particularly fancy. He just takes them immediately gets them in their hindquarters, almost like a a veterinarian.
- 1:26:12Kayla (Evandria): Evandria is just shocked. She even has to take a moment to recollect herself.
- 1:26:18Justin (GM): Again, not the brightest tool in the shed. And so that leaves three Porcelinas that are going to go up against Mala, and they are all going to make attack rolls.
- 1:26:32Jamie (Eleanore): So you said that he howled for thirty minutes.
- 1:26:36Justin (GM): Yeah. Yeah. Poor man. I got a 18, an 18, and a 23. One hits.
- 1:26:46One hits. I will need a constitution saving throw from Mala. 14 on the constitution save. You feel the porcelaina's fur brush up against you, but because you're wearing armor, you are golden. You do, however, as another Porcelaina, almost like quarter not quarterback, linebacker comes in from a different angle and does deal nine damage to takes you out from the side and you you hit the ground.
- 1:27:19The three of you all hear that sickening thud as someone just kinda gets flattened from the side. I'm fine. I'm fine.
- 1:27:26Justin (GM): It's gonna
- 1:27:27Jamie (Eleanore): be okay. Oh, he's covered in, like, wet meat.
- 1:27:31Justin (GM): It's squished a lot. And everyone can make a second attack roll. That's the remaining three Porcelinos.
- 1:27:39Kayla (Evandria): Evandria got a nat 20, so 25.
- 1:27:42Justin (GM): Wonderful. 19.
- 1:27:44Justin (GM): 10. You see Eleanor, I think you're distracted by the squishing sound of Mala hitting the deck, and your arrow goes askance. However, I think I don't wanna put an emotion on you, Evandria, but after having seen Patrick excel so much, I think Evandria might have her hackles rise a bit.
- 1:28:10Kayla (Evandria): 100%.
- 1:28:11Justin (GM): Yes. And you also whip out just two syringes at once and launch them at two of the remaining porcelinas before Mala is able to
- 1:28:22Justin (GM): I'll turn around to the one that like blindsided me and just jab it right in the neck with the other fist syringe.
- 1:28:28Justin (GM): The porcelainas at this point are all kind of they don't instantly go down. They kind of have scampered out, but they are all much more woozy as within the next thirty or forty seconds, they are all kind of dropped to the ground and the sedative taking control. Patrick says, well, wait. About as swimmingly as I think it could have gone.
- 1:28:50Justin (GM): You got two at once because you don't have just done this yourself with like a bag of meat and arrows?
- 1:28:55Justin (GM): Well, I was prepared for about four other creatures
- 1:28:58Justin (GM): and Start looking around immediately.
- 1:29:01Justin (GM): No. I think you labeled them out like the ghast isn't here.
- 1:29:03Nick (Pat): Oh, I think you meant four more No. No.
- 1:29:06Justin (GM): And he kind of takes a large stick out and some rope and says, I suppose if we could just hog tie them up and and start carrying them out and kind of gestures for you all to start kind of gathering the porcelainas.
- 1:29:22Justin (GM): Oh, okay.
- 1:29:23Kayla (Evandria): Mala, are you feeling okay? You got hit?
- 1:29:25Justin (GM): Oh, yeah. I'm fine. This is nothing. And I'll put five points of land hands into myself to heal up. Wonderful.
- 1:29:32Justin (GM): Everyone give me a dexterity saving
- 1:29:34Justin (GM): throw. 18. Eighteen? Thirteen.
- 1:29:37Justin (GM): 13 for Avandria? 19. 19. Patrick got a seven. Classic.
- 1:29:44Out of the bushes, a much much larger porcelain appears. This is clearly what you have seen was previously described as, like, piglets, and that is driven home in this moment as this large porcelain with two tusks coming out from the bottom of its mouth comes barreling out of the bushes and absolutely takes Patrick out from the knees. Oh. You he full scorpions it. His the backs of his feet hit the top of his head as the stick flies out of his hand and the porcelain barrels away.
- 1:30:25What do the three of you do? I'm gonna
- 1:30:26Justin (GM): charge up a fire bolt and launch it at her.
- 1:30:28Justin (GM): Okay?
- 1:30:28Jamie (Eleanore): And I pull out my machete.
- 1:30:30Justin (GM): Okay.
- 1:30:30Kayla (Evandria): The Bantry just stands there looking down at Patrick with her arms crossed.
- 1:30:35Justin (GM): Great. Go ahead and give me an attack roll with the machete and give me an attack roll with fireball. I'm not good with magic yet. I'm gonna
- 1:30:41Jamie (Eleanore): spin. Unnatural 20.
- 1:30:43Justin (GM): Wonderful. I think the the fireball, which misses does drive the purse the the mother porcelaina directly into Eleanor's path. And what do you do to Eleanor?
- 1:30:54Jamie (Eleanore): Okay. She's much bigger than I thought. So I do just kind of like close my eyes and swing.
- 1:31:00Justin (GM): You hear a sickening sound. Oh. And this is not a sedative situation as
- 1:31:06Jamie (Eleanore): the I mean, she's asleep.
- 1:31:08Justin (GM): She's asleep as the porcelaina is immediately put down. And I hope these piglets were weaned. You hear Patrick go, oh. Patrick is holding his side where three quills have definitely embedded themselves and he says, oh, this is bad. There are
- 1:31:29Justin (GM): No. I've read about this. I've read about this. You just gotta rip them out and I'll just pull.
- 1:31:33Jamie (Eleanore): Oh my god.
- 1:31:34Justin (GM): You pull them out and that is the thing to do in this moment. And he says, thank you, malas. Two malas. Three Malas?
- 1:31:47Justin (GM): Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh
- 1:31:48Jamie (Eleanore): god. Somebody stick your wallet in his mouth soon and start biting his tongue.
- 1:31:50Justin (GM): Can I check to see if he's poisoned?
- 1:31:52Justin (GM): Yeah. Give me a medicine check.
- 1:31:55Justin (GM): Oh. That's a 15.
- 1:31:57Justin (GM): Yeah. He is you have done a lot to stifle the more extreme reaction to the poison that he might have succumbed to, but he is definitely have he has the poison condition and is not going to be able to kind of handle himself in this moment.
- 1:32:15Justin (GM): I can I can get rid of the poison if you guys if you guys don't have anything?
- 1:32:19Justin (GM): Oh, I I think I'm fine.
- 1:32:20Justin (GM): Oh, no. You are.
- 1:32:21Jamie (Eleanore): No. I have a potion of healing.
- 1:32:23Justin (GM): That one too. Okay. I'm just gonna use my other five points of lay on hands, and I'll put my hands on the wound and, like, push in the divine energy.
- 1:32:29Justin (GM): What does this look like?
- 1:32:31Justin (GM): Malo hands will start to burn this, like, fiery white, like this pure white as it spreads from his fingertips up to his wrist, and then as he presses into him, the fire goes into Patrick's body as it cleanses away the corruption in there.
- 1:32:46Justin (GM): You would not be aware of this, but the three mollusks that he sees all merge into one as the poisoned condition that he has is cured. He still has some damage though, and the the blood that he is kind of holding at his side continues to to pour out.
- 1:33:06Jamie (Eleanore): Eleanor runs up and uncorks her potion of healing and grabs his face a little too aggressively because she is like very No. Take it
- 1:33:19Kayla (Evandria): all. Take it all.
- 1:33:20Jamie (Eleanore): Alright. She gives her a potion of healing.
- 1:33:24Justin (GM): That's cinnamon y? Is that is that a thing that
- 1:33:28Jamie (Eleanore): Oh, it's something Wendell and I have been working on.
- 1:33:31Justin (GM): Oh, thank Oh, interesting.
- 1:33:49Kayla (Evandria): Yeah. Of course.
- 1:33:50Justin (GM): Well, has a stick. We can just you guys can just drag it. Right?
- 1:33:53Kayla (Evandria): Yeah. I'll drag them.
- 1:33:54Jamie (Eleanore): Do we want to keep this mom?
- 1:33:57Justin (GM): You killed it.
- 1:33:58Kayla (Evandria): The dead mom?
- 1:33:59Justin (GM): Well, we could see what maybe caused them to go crazy.
- 1:34:02Kayla (Evandria): I'll drag some back. I'm sure Patrick already has a place set up at the Evergreen Center.
- 1:34:06Justin (GM): Maybe Anilor can make some hyper jerky or something. Oh. Sounds delicious.
- 1:34:10Kayla (Evandria): Evandria perks up. Oh, I'm I'm fine.
- 1:34:15Justin (GM): Nope. Nope. And I'm gonna like do the fireman thing where like I lay him down and I like roll him over my shoulder and pick him up.
- 1:34:22Jamie (Eleanore): Alright. Let's go.
- 1:34:23Justin (GM): You guys head back to the Evergreen Center. It takes again another thirty minutes and upon arrival, you, Evandria are aware of where the the first aid kit is and get everything situated. And the the vibe inside of the inner greed center is exactly what you would expect. There are small little containers and aquariums, some filled with water for aquatic creatures and some that are more dry for, like, small lizards and salamanders. There are various taxidermied animals that are larger that give campers an opportunity to see what some of these more dangerous creatures might look like.
- 1:35:05And, again, there are the two the one way mirror one way windows that allow you to observe some of the creatures of the great woods without disturbing them. You can see steadfast Patrick's griffin is munching on a ram that he has fed it over the past couple of days. And on Patrick's desk in his office is that same glass tube from before. Previously, the filament inside was a yellow and green, but now when the light hits it, it is a bright, bright red. Patrick is sitting across on a small little couch that he has in his office, and he has a washcloth on his forehead, and he is kind of fanning himself.
- 1:35:58And he says, I I really appreciate your help with this. I think, by tomorrow, I'll be able to rehouse those porcelinas a little bit farther away. I think I've got a good idea of where they could go, that they won't bother anyone or any other creatures in this area. I really appreciate your help.
- 1:36:15Jamie (Eleanore): Eleanor walks over to the desk that has that tube thing that he had been messing with earlier. And from afar, she could not tell what it was, but, she does get closer, and she again wants to inspect it and, might be a separate role, but also look at any other stuff that's on his desk.
- 1:36:34Justin (GM): Yeah. Go ahead and give me an ArcanaCheck with Advantage since you are really taking your time with this and have looked at it before.
- 1:36:43Jamie (Eleanore): 17.
- 1:36:44Justin (GM): This is a weather fork, and it is used, particularly, like, you can spin it, and it makes, like, a radar, essentially. So it does have purposes standing on its own, but it can spin, to give a more detailed map. He sees you pick it up as you're kind of inspecting and says, oh, that's that's redder than before. Oh.
- 1:37:10Jamie (Eleanore): Yeah. It didn't have any hardly any of this earlier when we saw it when Yeah. We ever had
- 1:37:15Justin (GM): That there was a lot there was some
- 1:37:18Kayla (Evandria): Patrick, what does that mean?
- 1:37:19Jamie (Eleanore): What does this mean?
- 1:37:21Justin (GM): Well, we don't really get the best signal this close to camp that the protections on the spirit tree kind of alter it. I have a a spot in the forest and he gestures to the map of the great woods. This is a much larger map of the area that's kind of postered up on his office wall. And he says, I have a and he points to a a a blue pin. He says, I I use that weather post to kind of get a better reading when I am out there to kind of really understand what's going on.
- 1:37:57But I suppose I can he kinda tries to get up a little bit.
- 1:38:01Jamie (Eleanore): No. But this is bad no matter what. Right? All this red, even if it's not super clear?
- 1:38:06Justin (GM): That's definitely not good. No. But I'm sure, you know, I'll get out there and I'll be able to get a a more clear reading. It's really more about where it's headed
- 1:38:15Kayla (Evandria): But will you get a more clear understanding?
- 1:38:19Jamie (Eleanore): This seems bad. Eleanor runs over, rips the map off the wall, and just takes off.
- 1:38:25Kayla (Evandria): Oh. Oh, Eleanor. Eleanor.
- 1:38:28Justin (GM): She'll be fine. She does this all the time. Patrick, let's get you to bed. You need to rest now.
- 1:38:33Justin (GM): Oh, okay. Oh, well. And he like sits back down.
- 1:38:38Justin (GM): She'll be fine. She does this all the time.
- 1:38:40Justin (GM): We're just
- 1:38:41Kayla (Evandria): fine with that? We're just fine with her fleeing?
- 1:38:43Nick (Pat): I mean,
- 1:38:43Justin (GM): she runs much faster than you and I.
- 1:38:45Justin (GM): It really takes I'm sure the reading I saw earlier, we think we'll be fine.
- 1:38:50Kayla (Evandria): It's just She'll be completely fine. We don't have to worry.
- 1:38:54Justin (GM): I don't he is clearly still not poisoned, but, not fully, that was just a light potion, and is still not fully with it. But he is maybe a little concerned about this, but I think is more knowledgeable about the readings on the weather that he was getting earlier. And so you're not registering emergency on his face. You're registering, the face you would see of a, oh, yes. We send reporters out to do weather reporting.
- 1:39:30That is just a thing that happens, not a, I'm like sending out a person to their doom situation in any way.
- 1:39:38Kayla (Evandria): Okay. Okay. Well, I guess if you think she's gonna be fine.
- 1:39:45Justin (GM): Yeah. I think she's she's a quick one.
- 1:39:48Kayla (Evandria): Okay. Fine. I guess I shouldn't really be worried anyway.
- 1:39:52Justin (GM): This will be something that I that you and I will share responsibilities for in the future, by the way. Also, can I see the catalog of things that you that you were keeping track of?
- 1:40:01Jamie (Eleanore): Sure.
- 1:40:02Justin (GM): And he takes the the list. How many things did you write down?
- 1:40:06Nick (Pat): One. Oh.
- 1:40:09Justin (GM): And I see that you've written down pinecone. That's not what I had in mind.
- 1:40:14Kayla (Evandria): There's a drawing attached.
- 1:40:16Justin (GM): It is a very nice picture of a pinecone.
- 1:40:18Kayla (Evandria): Yes. It is.
