- 0:00Picture the race of life, every step fueled by a purpose greater than ourselves.
- 0:05Hey everyone, welcome back to the Couples Journey blog series podcast.
- 0:10We're on part two of the series, Total Commitment.
- 0:13Today, Rey and Annie will dive deeper on how focusing on Christ can transform
- 0:18our marriages from just good to truly divine. Here's part two.
- 0:23Yesterday, we discussed some of the common challenges that marriages face today.
- 0:28Beyond the usual responsibilities shared between couples.
- 0:31These issues threaten the very integrity of marriage, a beautiful relationship created by God.
- 0:38We can see how far being disconnected from God damages not only ourselves, but also our marriage.
- 0:44A common mistake many make is declaring faith and then expecting immediate solutions
- 0:49based on their understanding and preferred outcomes.
- 0:52Yes, we have a living hope in Christ, but that doesn't mean our faith in Him
- 0:56is like a business transaction.
- 0:58Our restored relationship with God through Christ is just the beginning of our
- 1:03journey of transformation.
- 1:05There's a powerful message from Paul in Philippians 3 that's both encouraging
- 1:09and a reminder that our connection to God goes far beyond religious activities.
- 1:14Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet.
- 1:18But one thing I do, forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what
- 1:22lies ahead. I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
- 1:29Philippians 3 verses 13-14 We notice how Paul, even though he hasn't yet fully
- 1:35attained spiritual perfection, has already achieved a lot.
- 1:39His focus is on the ongoing pursuit of spiritual growth, forgetting past failures
- 1:44and successes, and constantly moving forward, like a runner aiming for the finish line.
- 1:49In these verses, we see his desire to become more like Christ,
- 1:53never settling or relying on past accomplishments but always pressing onward.
- 1:59Furthermore, Paul compares the Christian life to a race, with Jesus as the finish line or goal.
- 2:05Believers run with focus and determination, always looking to Christ for guidance
- 2:10and strength. The reward at the end?
- 2:13Eternal life, glory, and blessings from God. Things that are truly precious
- 2:18and will never fade away.
- 2:20This divine calling comes from above, centered on Jesus Christ,
- 2:24whom we are called to follow with all our effort.
- 2:27When we reflect on these lessons from a marriage perspective,
- 2:30a few key takeaways stand out.
- 2:321. Focus on the goal together, just as believers run toward the prize of eternal life.
- 2:39Couples should share a vision of a Christ-centered marriage,
- 2:42working together towards spiritual growth, love, and mutual encouragement. 2.
- 2:48Forget past hurts and failures. Like Paul, couples should learn to forgive and
- 2:53let go of past grievances, choosing to focus on the present and future in Christ. 3.
- 2:59Keep Christ at the center. In the race of marriage, Jesus is the mark or goal.
- 3:04Couples should always focus on Him, seeking His guidance, love,
- 3:09and strength to navigate challenges. 4.
- 3:12Press forward with persistence. Marriage requires continuous effort,
- 3:16patience, and perseverance.
- 3:18No matter how difficult things get, we should keep striving to grow closer and
- 3:23follow Christ's example. 5.
- 3:26Run the race with purpose and direction, as runners look straight ahead.
- 3:30Spouses should have clear intentions to grow in love and holiness.
- 3:35Guiding their actions by biblical principles. 6.
- 3:38Prioritize the eternal over the temporary,
- 3:41instead of dwelling on fleeting disagreements or worldly concerns.
- 3:45Remember the eternal rewards, character, love, and spiritual intimacy that come
- 3:51from a marriage rooted in Christ. 7.
- 3:54Trust in God's promises for the future. The prize is eternal life and divine blessings.
- 4:00Couples should trust God's promises, hope in His plan, and believe that faithfulness
- 4:06and love in marriage will be rewarded.
- 4:08Indeed, our restored relationship with God through Jesus Christ is not just a quick religious fix.
- 4:14It's a journey of transformation anchored in Christ.
- 4:18We encourage you to read through Philippians 3 carefully.
- 4:21Reflect on the lessons about Christ, what it means to follow Him,
- 4:25and how those truths can be applied to your marriage.
- 4:28When we take the time to listen to the world's voices in our hearts and minds,
- 4:33and honestly acknowledge our shortcomings, we can begin to see the incredible
- 4:37grace of Jesus Christ working within us.
