- 0:02Speaker 1: We got a lot to do today, a lot to do.
- 0:04Speaker 1: AJ doing a great job. Love listening to the Tigers
- 0:08Speaker 1: Mariners series going on right now, and we're gonna dive
- 0:11Speaker 1: into that one coming up in just a moment. But
- 0:13Speaker 1: before that, the annual rest versus rust discussion. I don't
- 0:19Speaker 1: want to spend more than thirty seconds on it, but
- 0:22Speaker 1: based on what Milwaukee and Toronto alone did, are we
- 0:25Speaker 1: cool to say? Who fing cares?
- 0:30Speaker 2: Does it matter? Because the teams that got rest won
- 0:34Speaker 2: some games and the teams that got rest lost some games,
- 0:36Speaker 2: So what does it really matter? I'm I've been banging
- 0:39Speaker 2: on this trum forever. I don't think it matters. But
- 0:43Speaker 2: that's just me. Teams matter, and.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Yeah, but it matters to the Red Sox, it matters
- 0:50Speaker 1: to any of the teams that got bounced in the
- 0:52Speaker 1: last round, right because.
- 0:54Speaker 2: I'm talking about that team still playing. I'm talking about
- 0:56Speaker 2: teams still playing scot those teams that are home their home,
- 0:59Speaker 2: they don't care about the rest. We've got lots of
- 1:00Speaker 2: rest now. But I want to get rid of.
- 1:02Speaker 1: The narrative that it's like, oh, you can't hit coming
- 1:05Speaker 1: off that right, like the Brewers and the Blue Jays
- 1:07Speaker 1: they can hit.
- 1:09Speaker 2: You're right, And the Dodgers had a chance to win
- 1:14Speaker 2: that game and didn't. Sorry, krats, And also listen to
- 1:17Speaker 2: Mariners ran into no hitting except for calin Julio. Their
- 1:21Speaker 2: layoff didn't seem to hurt them at all. They seem
- 1:23Speaker 2: to be doing just fine. Callin Julio or are swinging
- 1:26Speaker 2: it all right? And Plannka went deep off Scooba last
- 1:28Speaker 2: night twice and he had a week off. So I listen,
- 1:30Speaker 2: if you lose, you cry about the rest, and if
- 1:33Speaker 2: you win, nobody cares. So just win, baby, as Al
- 1:35Speaker 2: Davis would say.
- 1:36Speaker 1: That's right. And also you meant Philly's had a chance
- 1:39Speaker 1: to win first the Dodgers, right.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Sorry, sorry, yeah, I got you. Just red Eye last night, Scott,
- 1:45Speaker 2: get you that red Eye. Yeah, I'll de Detroit, It'll
- 1:48Speaker 2: get you.
- 1:49Speaker 1: You're in prime form, all right, Krats, Rest versus rest?
- 1:52Speaker 3: Last word, it's gonna be fifty to fifty forever. Who
- 1:56Speaker 3: really cares? My biggest thing, Go ask the Red Sox
- 2:00Speaker 3: they want to rest. Go ask all the teams have
- 2:02Speaker 3: played in the first round. Everybody wants rest because there's
- 2:05Speaker 3: half those teams every year go home. So you never
- 2:08Speaker 3: want to play that Wildcard round boom exactly.
- 2:13Speaker 1: All right, So it's Monday, we're back. We're recapping the weekend,
- 2:16Speaker 1: and we're also doing postgame shows this week. So we'll
- 2:20Speaker 1: lay out the schedule for this evening. There are two
- 2:23Speaker 1: games tonight, and we will be on after the second game.
- 2:26Speaker 1: That's Milwaukee and Chicago. There you go, Cubs and Brewers,
- 2:31Speaker 1: nine o'clock East Coast time, eight o'clock Central out there,
- 2:34Speaker 1: and we'll talk about that one. Plus we'll do our
- 2:38Speaker 1: recap of the prior game as well, the Dodgers and
- 2:41Speaker 1: the Phillies. So you'll get thoughts from us tonight, and
- 2:44Speaker 1: then of course we'll keep recapping tomorrow. But let's charge
- 2:49Speaker 1: chout one to one Tigers and Mariners. Let's start there.
- 2:54Speaker 1: That's the most recent game since our show, right because
- 2:58Speaker 1: that was Sunday night, and that's along with Adam Wainwright
- 3:01Speaker 1: and Adam Amin i'll call in the game on Fox.
- 3:05Speaker 1: AJA thoughts on the one to one series heading to
- 3:08Speaker 1: Detroit here.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Well, Detroit had a chance to really take a stranglehold
- 3:12Speaker 2: with Schooble pitching last night and the Mariners, listen, Luis
- 3:15Speaker 2: Castillo did an amazing job. These have been two awesome games.
- 3:17Speaker 2: If you haven't watched these two games now, granted, if
- 3:20Speaker 2: you like offense, you're not going to see a lot
- 3:21Speaker 2: of that. But if you like pitching and a couple
- 3:24Speaker 2: some clutch hitting and a lot of strategy, these are
- 3:27Speaker 2: the games for you because there is like who should
- 3:29Speaker 2: they bring in? When should they take the starter out?
- 3:31Speaker 2: Who should they pinch hit for? Should they bunch? Should
- 3:34Speaker 2: they run? What should they do? And the game on
- 3:37Speaker 2: Saturday went extra innings and the Tigers won three to two,
- 3:40Speaker 2: and with a clutch hit from Zach McKinstry after a
- 3:43Speaker 2: leadoff walk in a wild pitch. And then last night
- 3:44Speaker 2: Plonka with the two homers off schoobl Spencer Torcosson with
- 3:48Speaker 2: a huge base hit, and we can debate pitch calling
- 3:51Speaker 2: all day long. Cratzy as you know. And then all
- 3:54Speaker 2: of a sudden, to Calin Julio show shows up back
- 3:57Speaker 2: to back doubles of Kyle Finnegan, a guy who has
- 4:00Speaker 2: now pitched in four or five days, and the Mariners
- 4:04Speaker 2: beat the Tiger three to two. And if you didn't
- 4:05Speaker 2: see the guy crying in the stands that we showed
- 4:08Speaker 2: on Fox, it was incredible. The guy in a banana's
- 4:10Speaker 2: hat because it was the first win for the Mariners
- 4:13Speaker 2: in Seattle since two thousand and one, two thousand and
- 4:17Speaker 2: one since they won a home playoff game, and the
- 4:19Speaker 2: Seahawks had just lost and late in the game, so
- 4:21Speaker 2: they were already all riled up. They're facing school and
- 4:24Speaker 2: then they win through to two. There was a lot
- 4:26Speaker 2: of emotions in Seattle on the crowd there has been awesome.
- 4:28Speaker 2: So I hope Detroit matches that crowd.
- 4:31Speaker 3: I saw a bunch of people online saying these are
- 4:32Speaker 3: boring games because there's not a lot of offense. Why
- 4:35Speaker 3: would I want to even watch this series? This is
- 4:38Speaker 3: the reason these games are so close. It hinges on
- 4:42Speaker 3: one pitch. It hinges on your pitch selection, It hinges
- 4:47Speaker 3: on the fact that you know how to get a
- 4:48Speaker 3: guy out because both these offenses are kind of struggling
- 4:52Speaker 3: minus Holy Ow and Cow, but every pitch what could
- 4:57Speaker 3: change the trajectory of both these teams.
- 5:00Speaker 4: I think the Mariners are the better team.
- 5:03Speaker 3: I think the Tigers had their chance, and I think
- 5:07Speaker 3: it's swung back in the favor of the Mariners. Oh wait,
- 5:11Speaker 3: except the Mariners now have to go as as aj says,
- 5:15Speaker 3: East of Spokane, So we'll see how they play. I
- 5:18Speaker 3: think they still have the advantage, but they're out of
- 5:20Speaker 3: their friendly confines. And I have no idea why that
- 5:23Speaker 3: guy was crying.
- 5:27Speaker 1: That's true though. It's two weeks too for the Tigers
- 5:30Speaker 1: and now they're back home. What aj you're you're going.
- 5:33Speaker 2: To defend eleven eleven eleven Street?
- 5:35Speaker 5: No?
- 5:35Speaker 2: I think guys, listen, it was awesome.
- 5:37Speaker 4: Man.
- 5:37Speaker 2: The guy has yeah, I like he's having a moment,
- 5:39Speaker 2: all right, he was having a moment, had a moment
- 5:42Speaker 2: just come on, yeah, I mean.
- 5:43Speaker 3: Not about a game, but I mean, come on, that
- 5:46Speaker 3: was twenty four years ago.
- 5:47Speaker 4: How old was that guy? How old was that guy? Eleven?
- 5:51Speaker 2: I don't know how old he was, but it was awesome.
- 5:52Speaker 2: It was an awesome shot by our director Mitch Regan.
- 5:54Speaker 2: So way to go camera, guys, and Mitch for nailing
- 5:57Speaker 2: that shot.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Also careful and I'll tell you why. And then you'll go, oh,
- 6:02Speaker 1: what if, for example, there's someone close and he lost
- 6:05Speaker 1: them and he's thinking they would be loving this moment
- 6:08Speaker 1: right now? Just throwing that those kind of ideas out
- 6:10Speaker 1: there because that's what happens so often with other teams
- 6:13Speaker 1: that hadn't say, won a World Series in forever, and
- 6:16Speaker 1: you have emotions and tears, and often they're connected to
- 6:20Speaker 1: lifetime memory, experienced, family, friends, situations. Just throwing that out there.
- 6:24Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a good one. That's a good one.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Sure anyway, And by the way, no, but by the way, listen,
- 6:31Speaker 2: I don't know what's going to happen in this series.
- 6:33Speaker 2: But now it gets really interesting because the Mariners are
- 6:36Speaker 2: so much better at home than they are in the road.
- 6:38Speaker 2: And they come to Detroit, where they did sweep the
- 6:40Speaker 2: Tigers right before they All Star break, but it was
- 6:42Speaker 2: a different team. They get Flaherty, who pitched really well
- 6:45Speaker 2: in the Wildcard Series, as we know, the bullpens get
- 6:47Speaker 2: a day of rest, and then Logan Gilbert. Everyone was
- 6:51Speaker 2: shocked he didn't pitch Game one or two. Nobody really
- 6:53Speaker 2: got a reason why. It was just kind of we
- 6:55Speaker 2: want Castillo and Kirby to pitch one and two. There
- 6:57Speaker 2: wasn't really any reason given other than oh, we like
- 7:00Speaker 2: and Gilbert in Game three. So the Mariner has been
- 7:02Speaker 2: terrible on the road, as we know, they were the
- 7:04Speaker 2: best home record, I think in baseball this year in
- 7:05Speaker 2: the American League. So I don't know what's going to happen,
- 7:08Speaker 2: but it's just it's intriguing as hell. These games are
- 7:11Speaker 2: tight because neither one of these teams has really hit
- 7:12Speaker 2: the ball very well. So much, like I said, so
- 7:15Speaker 2: much strategy with these two managers. When are they bringing
- 7:17Speaker 2: in first game the Kerry Carpenter home run? He have
- 7:20Speaker 2: brought in Gabe Spier to pitch to him instead of
- 7:22Speaker 2: letting Kirby face him for the third time? Who carry
- 7:25Speaker 2: Carpenter owns? He's now five for eleven with five homers.
- 7:28Speaker 2: That's it. He's five for eleven with five homers. No singles,
- 7:30Speaker 2: no doubles, no triples, just he just hits homers off
- 7:33Speaker 2: of them and they let him pitch to him and
- 7:35Speaker 2: he hit the home run, and then the bullpen usage
- 7:36Speaker 2: and the way it went down. I mean, if you
- 7:38Speaker 2: talk to the people in the media around those games,
- 7:40Speaker 2: they are like, man, you second guess everything in these series.
- 7:43Speaker 2: It's awesome and it has been. It's been awesome. Yeah,
- 7:45Speaker 2: it's not the thirteen to seven or whatever the Yankees
- 7:48Speaker 2: Blue Jays game was yesterday, but at least they have
- 7:50Speaker 2: been close games and there's a lot to talk about.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Our playoff coverage for the next few weeks is all
- 7:57Speaker 1: presented by Fox One. Shout out to them and the
- 8:01Speaker 1: new app and streaming service where you can get yourself
- 8:03Speaker 1: a seven day free trial at foxone dot com. So
- 8:07Speaker 1: for example, if you're like, I don't have anything else,
- 8:10Speaker 1: but I want to watch the playoffs, then you can
- 8:13Speaker 1: watch AJ and Adam and Adam do their game and
- 8:16Speaker 1: then eventually obviously the CS and the World Series as well.
- 8:22Speaker 1: All you AJ, We're gonna watch you even if we can't.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Right, we were in commercial. I was like, well, I
- 8:29Speaker 2: didn't realize this was live. I know, sorry, this is
- 8:31Speaker 2: the commercial. You get MLB obviously in the playoffs because
- 8:37Speaker 2: Fox rules MLB playoffs. I think you get Big Noon,
- 8:40Speaker 2: which is their big college football show. I don't know
- 8:42Speaker 2: if you can get the NFL on there, but yeah,
- 8:44Speaker 2: you get games. Oh well, then how do you not
- 8:47Speaker 2: have Fox one? I have Fox one. I watch it
- 8:48Speaker 2: all the time. I need to watch a game. People
- 8:50Speaker 2: are complaining they couldn't find the game. If you have
- 8:52Speaker 2: Fox one there it is boom, It's easy.
- 8:56Speaker 1: What about Brian Wu not being involved here for this
- 9:00Speaker 1: the pectoral inflammation since our last show is when we
- 9:04Speaker 1: learned that he's officially not part of this series. To me,
- 9:08Speaker 1: it makes game three even more critical for the marriage.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Is Bryce Miller rumored to Yes.
- 9:13Speaker 2: He starts scheduled. He's scheduled to start in game four.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Now how long will we go? It all depends on
- 9:18Speaker 2: Game three, I think. But these managers are riding their
- 9:20Speaker 2: bullpens hard. Other than Schooble, like the ultimate we talk
- 9:25Speaker 2: about X factors, the ultimate wildcard is schoobl because Hinch
- 9:28Speaker 2: knows that he can get seven innings like he did
- 9:30Speaker 2: last night. And listen to people that say, oh, scoobld
- 9:32Speaker 2: and Pitchell. He went seven innings, gave up two solo homers,
- 9:35Speaker 2: punched out I think nine. I think in seven innings.
- 9:37Speaker 2: One walk that's usually pretty good, that's usually really good
- 9:42Speaker 2: against the team that won their division at home. That
- 9:44Speaker 2: it's been way better at home. So Schooble pitch really well.
- 9:46Speaker 2: He made two mistakes other than that, and then Finnegan
- 9:48Speaker 2: came in and gave it the two doubles. But man,
- 9:51Speaker 2: I mean, listen, I don't know what we're gonna get
- 9:53Speaker 2: out of Logan Gilbert, but it's gonna be fascinating to watch.
- 9:55Speaker 2: And then Bryce Miller when he starts. He might go
- 9:57Speaker 2: well one time through maybe, and then they're gonna run
- 9:59Speaker 2: to their bullpen, which has been great, So we'll see
- 10:02Speaker 2: how it goes. But Jack Flaherty tomorrow and then Casey myyes,
- 10:05Speaker 2: I mean if you look on paper, you're like, man,
- 10:07Speaker 2: I think maybe the Tigers have a little bit of
- 10:08Speaker 2: an advantage because they're at home. But you could have
- 10:11Speaker 2: said that about Game two and the Tigers lost a
- 10:13Speaker 2: schoobl game with a chase chance to really put their
- 10:15Speaker 2: foot on the Mariner's throat and put them away maybe,
- 10:18Speaker 2: but they didn't do it.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Yeah, that makes this one pretty tough to predict right now, Crass,
- 10:24Speaker 1: You've got a team that struggles away from home and
- 10:27Speaker 1: they're down basically their best starter this year, right, I mean,
- 10:31Speaker 1: Brian wu was their best starting pitcher and he was
- 10:34Speaker 1: durable and going deep into games for them. It's a
- 10:37Speaker 1: massive loss for this team, whether it's in the division
- 10:40Speaker 1: series or the next round, it is going to burn
- 10:43Speaker 1: them because they had a big three and a half ish.
- 10:46Speaker 1: I guess you could put Castillo in there. He looked
- 10:48Speaker 1: really good in Game two. But man, you're so much
- 10:52Speaker 1: more dangerous if you're the Mariners. If you have a
- 10:54Speaker 1: guy who's a legit number one for the entire twenty
- 10:57Speaker 1: twenty five season in your rotation.
- 11:00Speaker 3: I mean you would think Logan Gilbert's a legit number
- 11:02Speaker 3: one too, he just hasn't been this year. To me,
- 11:06Speaker 3: if AJ's right and it's going to be bull down
- 11:08Speaker 3: to the bullpens, Mariners have the advantage.
- 11:11Speaker 4: I get it.
- 11:12Speaker 3: The Mariners have gotten you know, their bullpen got cooked
- 11:15Speaker 3: last night because Castillo went four and a third or
- 11:18Speaker 3: four and two thirds. But the Tigers have been using
- 11:23Speaker 3: their bullpen. But this is where the wild card and
- 11:26Speaker 3: the layoff comes into play. The Tigers have been playing
- 11:29Speaker 3: their bullpen, has been pitching every single day, and to me,
- 11:34Speaker 3: it's going to catch up to them somewhere. And if
- 11:38Speaker 3: it becomes two teams that are playing bullpen games, I
- 11:41Speaker 3: think it's advantage Mariners.
- 11:45Speaker 1: And just want to shout out the other historic part here. Yeah,
- 11:48Speaker 1: I mean, Seattle hadn't even won a postseason game at home,
- 11:52Speaker 1: like we talked about at the top there, so that's special.
- 11:55Speaker 1: I think Julio Rodriguez being the big, big long term
- 11:58Speaker 1: money guy for them showing up big with some clutch
- 12:01Speaker 1: knocks in the first two games is huge. So some
- 12:04Speaker 1: shout outs there, and then one other thing. I started
- 12:06Speaker 1: to mention AJ the Tigers. They looked up. They hadn't
- 12:08Speaker 1: been home in two weeks.
- 12:10Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Yeah, eleven game, it's a long time. They're probably happy
- 12:14Speaker 1: they get to change underwear.
- 12:16Speaker 2: It was pretty funny. Hinchester in his office and we're like, oh,
- 12:18Speaker 2: you get to go home. And they didn't actually take
- 12:20Speaker 2: the red eye home. They took there. They spent the
- 12:22Speaker 2: night interflying. I think they get home maybe four or
- 12:25Speaker 2: five o'clock this afternoon. So the Mariners took the red
- 12:28Speaker 2: Eye and got here early this morning, and the Tigers
- 12:30Speaker 2: shows to spend another night in the road. If I
- 12:32Speaker 2: was on those Tigers teams, I would have been like,
- 12:34Speaker 2: give me the heck home so I can sleep in
- 12:36Speaker 2: my own bed. I don't want to sleep in another hotel.
- 12:38Speaker 2: But they chose to do it the way they do it.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Teams have all these sleep schedules and all that stuff,
- 12:41Speaker 2: and oh man, it's just it's it's fascinating how this
- 12:45Speaker 2: is going to go.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Does Gabs Fire have to face Carrie Carpenter now? In
- 12:51Speaker 1: those kind of moments, like if you're mid game and
- 12:53Speaker 1: you're thinking about it, and it's a one or two
- 12:56Speaker 1: run game and there's too much pressure. You have to
- 12:58Speaker 1: just bring him in as the kryptonite.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Him and him and Calen Ferguson have to face that
- 13:03Speaker 2: pocket of Riley Green and Kerry Carpenter.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, that to me was the big change from
- 13:11Speaker 1: game one to game two.
- 13:12Speaker 4: Right.
- 13:12Speaker 1: If there's one thing a manager can can impact it
- 13:15Speaker 1: that and Kratz. The move was made by Dan Wilson.
- 13:17Speaker 1: It's like, if I get beat this time around, okay,
- 13:19Speaker 1: but I'm not going to get beat with the same
- 13:21Speaker 1: exact strategy.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Because you may not ever get to another at bat
- 13:25Speaker 3: like you, Like I get it, you might want to
- 13:26Speaker 3: try to get by him and Kerry Carpenter's shown that.
- 13:31Speaker 4: I get it. He caught him that time.
- 13:33Speaker 3: But until he can beat Spire or Ferguson, can't can't
- 13:40Speaker 3: let it, can't let it happen. You got it, That's
- 13:41Speaker 3: where you gotta go to. So you're gonna live and
- 13:43Speaker 3: die on that hill.
- 13:45Speaker 4: Mm hmmm.
- 13:46Speaker 1: One more quick shoutouts. I don't know, I don't remember
- 13:48Speaker 1: if we really said his name much yet, but Zach
- 13:50Speaker 1: McKinstry has had an awesome year and had the clutch
- 13:53Speaker 1: knock in Game one. Otherwise, who knows. Maybe the Mariners
- 13:56Speaker 1: do get themselves a little walk off action and then's
- 13:58Speaker 1: too to Detroit.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Zach mckinchry had a great first half. Don't don't look
- 14:02Speaker 2: at his second half numbers because no, boy, no, he
- 14:06Speaker 2: had a great first half. He did not have a
- 14:08Speaker 2: good second half. I'm sorry a lot of it. But
- 14:09Speaker 2: you could say that about a lot of these Tigers. Also,
- 14:11Speaker 2: by the way you talk, we're going to talk Tiger's territory. Cody. Cody,
- 14:14Speaker 2: who's on Tiger's territory, walked right by me, blew me off.
- 14:17Speaker 2: I had to call him out on it in Tiger's
- 14:19Speaker 2: club house. I was like, oh, I don't say hi,
- 14:21Speaker 2: you're fired.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Wow. And with that Tiger territory. If if you're mad
- 14:28Speaker 1: at Aj because you think that he's favoring the Mariners,
- 14:31Speaker 1: then the Tigers and the Tigers and the Mariners, then schoolball,
- 14:34Speaker 1: then Kirby whatever, then you can listen to Cody Stavenhagen
- 14:38Speaker 1: and the Tiger Territory crew part of the Ft network.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Maybe he's just a little grumpy because he doesn't have
- 14:44Speaker 1: the club. He's washing underwear and socks like Schoogle had
- 14:47Speaker 1: to get because they ran out of things on the road. Hey,
- 14:50Speaker 1: there's a manager's search going on. There's many of them, actually,
- 14:53Speaker 1: So Kurtzuzuki interviewed for the Giants opening A catcher being
- 14:57Speaker 1: interviewed by catcher Buster Posey, forty one years old, sixteen
- 15:00Speaker 1: seasons in Biggs. Currently a special assistant to the GM
- 15:03Speaker 1: with the Angels, Nick Huntley is in the mix for
- 15:07Speaker 1: the Giants' opening job. No guarantees, but the Rangers executive
- 15:10Speaker 1: and former catcher with the Giants is according to John Hymen.
- 15:13Speaker 1: The last one was according to Robert Murray. But anyway,
- 15:15Speaker 1: this former Giants catcher well respected and Buster Posey's backup
- 15:19Speaker 1: in twenty seventeen and twenty eighteen. Well, AJ sounds like
- 15:22Speaker 1: Buster Posey is interested in hiring a catcher.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean Kratz was available. Kratz was a catcher.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Krowts played for the Giants. Didn't he play with Buster Posey?
- 15:30Speaker 2: White Krauts Krowts, Why a don't you getting an interview?
- 15:32Speaker 4: Matt?
- 15:33Speaker 2: Come on, put your name in that ring. You want
- 15:34Speaker 2: to you know you want to do that?
- 15:36Speaker 3: Who said I didn't? Who said I don't like traffic?
- 15:38Speaker 3: In San Francisco, who said, I don't like a forty
- 15:41Speaker 3: five minute commute three miles away.
- 15:44Speaker 2: You don't have to You can do a boat. You
- 15:45Speaker 2: didn't live across the street. You can just walk. You
- 15:47Speaker 2: don't even need a commute, you don't even need a car.
- 15:49Speaker 3: I know Buster, I know, I know Buster likes Nick.
- 15:52Speaker 3: I know Buster liked Nick a lot because I came
- 15:55Speaker 3: to I came to San fran in nineteen and I
- 15:58Speaker 3: think it was something that Buster and far Haan didn't
- 16:01Speaker 3: quite agree because Nick didn't have the receiving numbers like
- 16:05Speaker 3: they really wanted, and so that's why they brought me
- 16:07Speaker 3: in to fill in for a little bit until they
- 16:10Speaker 3: found until Voter got healthy. But so I know he
- 16:13Speaker 3: really liked Nick as a person.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Injury suck. We do have some injury news to hit
- 16:18Speaker 1: with the Cubs Brewers series. Jackson Cheerio missed time with
- 16:21Speaker 1: a hammy. Then he left the game even though he
- 16:23Speaker 1: had a game's worth of production with a hammy issue.
- 16:27Speaker 1: We'll see how much of a factor it is for
- 16:29Speaker 1: the rest of the series. I mean, he had gone
- 16:31Speaker 1: three for three in the first couple innings of a
- 16:34Speaker 1: shellacking that the Brewers put on the Cubs in that
- 16:37Speaker 1: first game. AJ concern level for Cheerio. I mean, he's
- 16:40Speaker 1: a big part of the team. I know this is
- 16:42Speaker 1: like a sum of parts kind of team and organization,
- 16:45Speaker 1: but Jackson Cheerio is special.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Oh he's very special here. They did play a long
- 16:49Speaker 2: time without him though, so they've used to playing without
- 16:52Speaker 2: Jackson Turia. But in the playoffs, you want your best
- 16:53Speaker 2: players out there, and I think he's gonna try to
- 16:56Speaker 2: be out there no matter what. Man, what a first
- 16:58Speaker 2: two innings you had to what three hits in two
- 16:59Speaker 2: inns for youngest guy ever, first to ever have three
- 17:02Speaker 2: hits in the first two innings or something crazy. But
- 17:05Speaker 2: they're they're gonna need him if they want to make
- 17:06Speaker 2: as deep a run as the Brewers think they can do.
- 17:08Speaker 2: So they have already enough injuries, let's let's get Jackson
- 17:11Speaker 2: back healthy because he's fun to watch.
- 17:15Speaker 3: I mean, who are they gonna fill in with that's
- 17:17Speaker 3: better than him?
- 17:18Speaker 4: Is my thing.
- 17:19Speaker 3: There's people that can't do as well as he does.
- 17:23Speaker 3: But when you're talking about having the best players out there,
- 17:26Speaker 3: you always want the best players. And he wasn't even
- 17:28Speaker 3: at one hundred percent. He's still coming back from his
- 17:30Speaker 3: previous injury a little bit slowed down, but they need
- 17:36Speaker 3: I'm not gonna say they need him back in there,
- 17:39Speaker 3: but they are a better team with him in the lineup,
- 17:42Speaker 3: bar none, hands down.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Can they win this round without him?
- 17:47Speaker 2: No doubt? Yes, Humming, I don't even think. I mean,
- 17:52Speaker 2: we didn't get to talk about it, but you guys,
- 17:55Speaker 2: I'm sure you guys talked about it. Maybe I don't know, No,
- 17:58Speaker 2: we didn't.
- 17:58Speaker 1: I know what you're gonna say, Boyd.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Matt Boyd, like you never have anyone ever gone into
- 18:03Speaker 2: a game one of a playoff series doing a guy
- 18:06Speaker 2: on short rest? And I don't think. I don't know
- 18:07Speaker 2: Mad Boys ever pitched on short rest, but it shouldn't
- 18:09Speaker 2: look like he'd ever pitched on short rest because that
- 18:11Speaker 2: game was over as soon as the first inning happened.
- 18:13Speaker 2: I mean, I listen, I was watching that, and we
- 18:17Speaker 2: know where I stand on the Cubs. And I went
- 18:20Speaker 2: and took a shower and it was one nothing Cubs,
- 18:22Speaker 2: and I came out and it was ten pitches in
- 18:23Speaker 2: and it was three to one Brewers, and I was like,
- 18:25Speaker 2: holy crap, what happened? And then it just kept going
- 18:28Speaker 2: and going, and when the defense fell apart. That was
- 18:30Speaker 2: that was a strange game for the Cubs. But gosh,
- 18:32Speaker 2: I mean, I just don't know that. I mean, I
- 18:34Speaker 2: know they had to go three games with the Padres,
- 18:36Speaker 2: but man, they threw Matt Boyd on short rest in
- 18:38Speaker 2: the first game of a series like that was It
- 18:40Speaker 2: seemed odd to me.
- 18:42Speaker 1: And Matt Boyd, you know, was an incredible signing for them.
- 18:46Speaker 1: I had a huge first half, he was an All Star.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Wasn't as good in the second half, especially in his
- 18:50Speaker 1: last I want to say, like eight starts or so.
- 18:52Speaker 1: So you're looking at all of that and you're like,
- 18:54Speaker 1: is he tired? Because last year, remember he's coming off surgery,
- 18:57Speaker 1: he went like fifty something innings and eight appearances I
- 19:00Speaker 1: think almost two hundred innings one hundred almost one to
- 19:02Speaker 1: eighty this year, right, So add all of that up.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Is that who you want to start on short rest?
- 19:07Speaker 1: It has nothing to do with Matt to me, Kratz,
- 19:10Speaker 1: it had more to do with just the durability factor
- 19:13Speaker 1: here for somebody who hadn't pitched like that. And yes,
- 19:16Speaker 1: to answer AJ's question three times in his career, all
- 19:18Speaker 1: of them a long time ago, like twenty fifteen, sixteen
- 19:21Speaker 1: and seventeen one time each of those years. So to me,
- 19:26Speaker 1: it was like a risk and it completely bombed. Right,
- 19:29Speaker 1: That's what happened there. I mean his stuff was not
- 19:31Speaker 1: as sharp as it usually looks. They were hanging breaking pitches.
- 19:34Speaker 1: You know, even the fastball wasn't as sharp as it
- 19:36Speaker 1: usually is. Is that what you saw?
- 19:39Speaker 3: Yeah, it looked like he was not crisp. And you're
- 19:44Speaker 3: gonna go right to the short rest. And I've been
- 19:46Speaker 3: in these meetings with Craig Council down the stretch end
- 19:51Speaker 3: of the season, our best pitcher was Julie's Chessine. I mean,
- 19:56Speaker 3: nobody's gonna say, oh, twenty eighteen, the Brewers rode the
- 19:59Speaker 3: back of he's just seen No. We kept asking him
- 20:02Speaker 3: to throw on short rest, short rest, short rest, short rest,
- 20:05Speaker 3: and the picture is always in that moment gonna say
- 20:10Speaker 3: yes I can go. I have never seen heard been
- 20:14Speaker 3: a part of a meeting where a pictuer goes, I
- 20:17Speaker 3: don't know, man, like I just I'm not gonna have it.
- 20:20Speaker 3: So if you're a manager, you're anization, and you go
- 20:22Speaker 3: to that guy and say, can you give it to us?
- 20:25Speaker 3: Can you give us game one? Because then we'll have
- 20:28Speaker 3: you back in game five too, if we need you
- 20:30Speaker 3: like you're our best shot. Even at eighty percent, picture's
- 20:34Speaker 3: always going to be like one hundred percent. This means
- 20:36Speaker 3: the world to me. I want it, and it didn't
- 20:39Speaker 3: work out for him.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Ft FAM. Let's talk about Superpower. Eric Kratz is a
- 20:45Speaker 1: proud Superpower customer and he's gonna give us more of
- 20:48Speaker 1: the personal experience. But I'll just start it with this.
- 20:50Speaker 1: You ever go to the doctor and the doc's just like, oh,
- 20:52Speaker 1: drink more water. Are you looking for more data, more
- 20:55Speaker 1: of a game plan. Superpower does that for you. They
- 20:58Speaker 1: give you the experience that athletes get with teams.
- 21:04Speaker 2: The lab results came back for me.
- 21:06Speaker 4: Now it's streamlines everything.
- 21:08Speaker 3: That I kind of had an idea of, but now
- 21:12Speaker 3: it really lets me focus on the things that I'm
- 21:14Speaker 3: deficient in, the things that I have good, good lab
- 21:18Speaker 3: test results from. And I could go in that direction.
- 21:22Speaker 1: I want to go nutritional guidance, supplement suggestions, you name it.
- 21:26Speaker 1: There's so much more info to check out at superpower
- 21:28Speaker 1: dot com and you can lock in the special one
- 21:31Speaker 1: hundred and ninety nine dollars price while at lasts after
- 21:33Speaker 1: you sign up, they're gonna ask you how you heard
- 21:35Speaker 1: about them? Mention ft to support the show Your biology decoded,
- 21:39Speaker 1: Your blueprint activated with superpower. Let's talk about Sarah Langs
- 21:44Speaker 1: and the Blue Jays stat note that I think probably
- 21:48Speaker 1: stood out more than any other eight home runs so
- 21:51Speaker 1: far there severely outslugging. The Yankees seven strikeouts in their
- 21:56Speaker 1: first two games, so they're doing both and aj the
- 21:59Speaker 1: only time this is happened. More homers are about strikeouts
- 22:01Speaker 1: in the first two games of a postseason two thousand
- 22:05Speaker 1: and five, White Stocks six homers, four k's in two games.
- 22:10Speaker 2: Guess who had two of those homers Scott and I'll
- 22:14Speaker 2: think he had one only. I mean he had two
- 22:16Speaker 2: all year and they were both in the postseason. But
- 22:19Speaker 2: but I don't know if I had any strikeouts. So yeah,
- 22:21Speaker 2: I was two on the plus side, zero on the
- 22:23Speaker 2: negative side. That's pretty good. That's pretty amazing. Actually, if
- 22:26Speaker 2: you think about it more home and now back twenty
- 22:29Speaker 2: years ago was a little different. But in today's game,
- 22:32Speaker 2: because I just watched the series with the Mariners. I
- 22:34Speaker 2: watched two games with the Mariners and the Tigers, and
- 22:35Speaker 2: they strike out, it's like ten, twelve, fifteen, whatever. We're
- 22:39Speaker 2: going to strike out fifteen times a game. We're still
- 22:41Speaker 2: gonna try and win. But to eight homers and seven
- 22:43Speaker 2: punch outs, especially against now that I mean Freed and Heel,
- 22:47Speaker 2: but Freed is the big one who usually gets punch outs,
- 22:49Speaker 2: and the Yankees bullpen supposed be able to get punch outs.
- 22:51Speaker 2: So kudos to the Blue Jays.
- 22:55Speaker 3: You said it's different. You said it's different, but you're
- 22:58Speaker 3: not facing any You're not facing a fourth and fifth
- 23:02Speaker 3: starter in the postseason. You're not facing the sixth guy
- 23:05Speaker 3: out of the bullpen. I don't care if it's nineteen
- 23:08Speaker 3: fifty four or twenty twenty five. You're facing the best pitchers.
- 23:12Speaker 3: Those stats, those stats to out homer your strikeouts is awesome.
- 23:18Speaker 4: That is an amazing stat.
- 23:22Speaker 2: That's why I were at the best postseason team of
- 23:24Speaker 2: all time Crats, And I'll stand by that one because
- 23:27Speaker 2: we went eleven and one in the postseason and didn't
- 23:30Speaker 2: strike out and hit homers and we're just awesome and
- 23:33Speaker 2: through four complete games. So I know people ask me
- 23:35Speaker 2: I think we did. I had to do the breakdown
- 23:37Speaker 2: for Fox. They asked me to do it for Fox.
- 23:39Speaker 2: One the best five postseason teams since two thousand. Of
- 23:43Speaker 2: course mine was number one? Are you kidding me? But yeah?
- 23:47Speaker 4: Who else did you have up there?
- 23:49Speaker 2: I think two was the two thousand Yankees because they
- 23:52Speaker 2: were the end of the three peat two thousand and
- 23:54Speaker 2: four Red Sox for three. I think Dodgers last year
- 23:58Speaker 2: we're five and four.
- 24:00Speaker 4: Was I can't say Royal.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Was one of the twelve, the twenty twelve Giants, the
- 24:06Speaker 2: twenty twelve Giants just because I think that was the
- 24:09Speaker 2: best team of three the three that they won. I
- 24:11Speaker 2: thought the twelve team was the best team.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Hey, alexand Thoppolos spoke over the weekend at his end
- 24:17Speaker 1: of season media session. They said they're working on the
- 24:19Speaker 1: next manager. But he did mention AJ that if Brian
- 24:23Speaker 1: Snicker wanted to continue managing, he would have been given
- 24:26Speaker 1: that opportunity. Of course, some brave Patroll fans online were like,
- 24:29Speaker 1: I don't believe you. But he didn't have to say this,
- 24:33Speaker 1: and eventually it could get disputed by someone, So I
- 24:35Speaker 1: believe him.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Why not?
- 24:36Speaker 1: I think they would have let him come back for
- 24:38Speaker 1: another season and then finish it if that's what he
- 24:40Speaker 1: wanted to do.
- 24:41Speaker 2: This was one Snid's decision. I feel like I don't
- 24:44Speaker 2: feel like Alexandobos was lying about this at all. I
- 24:46Speaker 2: think I think this was what Snitt weighed his options.
- 24:50Speaker 2: He's got grand kids, a game, an opportunity to still
- 24:52Speaker 2: be part of the organization for his fiftieth year in
- 24:54Speaker 2: the organization. Yeah, would have been cool if he would
- 24:56Speaker 2: have been managing. Yeah, but he went through a lot, man,
- 25:00Speaker 2: and he's won a World Series. He was there with
- 25:02Speaker 2: Bobby forever and one of the cool things was, I
- 25:05Speaker 2: don't know if you'll knew this or not, but in
- 25:07Speaker 2: Bull Durham he was and Susan Sarandon's wall, he was
- 25:09Speaker 2: the little baseball card that is under mirror in early
- 25:12Speaker 2: in the movie. So, France Sticker has done a lot
- 25:15Speaker 2: in life, done a lot for the Braves organization. He
- 25:18Speaker 2: deserved to go out the way he wanted and this
- 25:19Speaker 2: was the way he wanted to go out.
- 25:22Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:23Speaker 1: Now the Braves will look for their next manager, and
- 25:25Speaker 1: somebody is going to have a position where you can
- 25:28Speaker 1: jump into a lot of talent very quickly. This is
- 25:31Speaker 1: a much more coveted job than quite a few of
- 25:34Speaker 1: the other spots. You know, it's a big one. This
- 25:40Speaker 1: isn't going to be a first year Guy New segment,
- 25:42Speaker 1: Larry pressure Cooker. We're talking about the Phillies Dodgers series.
- 25:45Speaker 1: So Kratz, obviously you're watching most of the Phillies games
- 25:50Speaker 1: this year, and you see what happened in Game one
- 25:53Speaker 1: where the Dodgers take them down five unanswered runs. I'm
- 25:55Speaker 1: going to actually start here. Is the home field advantage
- 25:58Speaker 1: more fun for us as a narrative in a storyline
- 26:01Speaker 1: than the actual impact they've lost for of their last
- 26:04Speaker 1: five games at his Citizens Bank Park. They've had other
- 26:06Speaker 1: bad losses there, what a couple of years ago when
- 26:09Speaker 1: the Diamondbacks took them down. I'm not trying to slight
- 26:11Speaker 1: the Phillies in general. I'm just more slighting the home
- 26:14Speaker 1: field advantage discussion that we like to talk about and
- 26:16Speaker 1: that looks and sounds fun, but does it really do anything.
- 26:22Speaker 4: No.
- 26:23Speaker 3: Maybe there's something with a team not playing at home,
- 26:27Speaker 3: like they're not as comfortable, so you're playing against a
- 26:29Speaker 3: team that's not as comfortable, but it doesn't mean Citizens
- 26:33Speaker 3: Bank is any more Like, Oh man, I'm so nervous
- 26:36Speaker 3: these fans are really they just feel like they're really
- 26:40Speaker 3: getting on me too much. I don't know if I'm
- 26:42Speaker 3: going to be able to hit. I've never met a
- 26:44Speaker 3: player that's said, I'm not going to be able to
- 26:47Speaker 3: catch the ball in the outfield If I can't, if
- 26:51Speaker 3: the Citizens Bank fans are going to be crazy, They're
- 26:53Speaker 3: crazy out there.
- 26:54Speaker 4: Now.
- 26:54Speaker 3: I've been played, I've played with guys who at home
- 26:57Speaker 3: they're home team fans boo them and hate them so
- 27:01Speaker 3: much that they didn't like playing at home during the
- 27:04Speaker 3: regular season. But those are few and far between softer players,
- 27:09Speaker 3: but not in No, No, I don't think. I don't
- 27:11Speaker 3: think it has the It's more a media driven, like
- 27:16Speaker 3: fun story.
- 27:19Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean.
- 27:21Speaker 2: The smallest, no, the smallest home field advantage in any
- 27:24Speaker 2: sport is baseball. To me, it doesn't It doesn't do anything. Now,
- 27:27Speaker 2: I remember playing in the Metronome in the playoffs and
- 27:30Speaker 2: it was loud as all get out, but it never
- 27:32Speaker 2: really affected a game. I mean, yeah, I don't know,
- 27:35Speaker 2: the white roof affected more games than the crowd noise
- 27:37Speaker 2: did so, and the turf affected more games than the
- 27:40Speaker 2: crowd noise did so. Was it loud yeah? Was it awesome? Yeah?
- 27:43Speaker 2: But at the same time, I mean, hopefield advantage in
- 27:45Speaker 2: baseball just just doesn't do it a lot for me.
- 27:48Speaker 2: It's cool because guys get get you know, the cheers
- 27:51Speaker 2: and the moments when the home runs and all that
- 27:53Speaker 2: happened are great and got guys crying because they just
- 27:55Speaker 2: can't believe that their team won a playoff game. But
- 27:58Speaker 2: other than that, it doesn't do a lot.
- 28:01Speaker 3: I will also say though, that I think the fact
- 28:04Speaker 3: that Baseball doesn't have a neutral site for their final
- 28:09Speaker 3: game of the season is the greatest part of it.
- 28:12Speaker 3: Like I would hate a neutral site for Baseball championship games,
- 28:16Speaker 3: like I hate that the Super Bowl is won at
- 28:20Speaker 3: a city that near the teams playing. I love the
- 28:23Speaker 3: fact because it's such a long season, fans have a
- 28:28Speaker 3: part of it. They feel like they're a part of it,
- 28:30Speaker 3: and they ride along with this team. So I don't
- 28:33Speaker 3: I wouldn call it an advantage. I would just call
- 28:35Speaker 3: it like we look at the Mariners. Look at the Mariners.
- 28:38Speaker 3: The Mariners play really well at home. Maybe they're just
- 28:40Speaker 3: a really good team and their travel sucks, so that's
- 28:44Speaker 3: why they don't play good on the road. They're out
- 28:47Speaker 3: on the East Coast for nine days, being in a
- 28:49Speaker 3: different time zone. Maybe that's why they don't play well
- 28:52Speaker 3: on the road. Maybe they're just a good team and
- 28:55Speaker 3: when they're in more of a comfortable situation, sleeping time zone,
- 29:01Speaker 3: families around them, all those things that has nothing to
- 29:04Speaker 3: do with like what's going on in the stadium.
- 29:07Speaker 4: Well.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Also, if you want to factor in ballparks, AJ, some
- 29:11Speaker 1: ballparks play very different, right.
- 29:14Speaker 2: But Mariners Seattle Mariners for sure, Like in this series.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Philadelphia is obviously a hitters park. But like the Dodgers,
- 29:22Speaker 1: I think I have more homers than the Phillies this year.
- 29:24Speaker 1: So it's not like, oh, the Phillies have this advantage.
- 29:26Speaker 1: They're this home run hitting team and the Dodgers aren't.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Like the Dodgers are loaded with power.
- 29:30Speaker 2: Agreed, Yeah, ballpark factor is a big deal. But you know,
- 29:33Speaker 2: Seattle is a huge difference because of the ballpark, the
- 29:37Speaker 2: worst hitting place in the in the league. So yeah,
- 29:41Speaker 2: does it matter. I mean, the fans are great because
- 29:43Speaker 2: they get behind you and they're you know, they make
- 29:45Speaker 2: they make moments. The fans make the moments. The players
- 29:47Speaker 2: do the things, and then the fans and the way
- 29:48Speaker 2: they cheer and the reaction makes a lot of the moment.
- 29:51Speaker 2: So does it?
- 29:52Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 29:53Speaker 2: I mean, but Milwaukee in Chicago, they've played at each
- 29:56Speaker 2: other's park for how many I mean, you know, fifteen
- 29:59Speaker 2: times a year forever, so they're used to going to
- 30:01Speaker 2: those places. The Dodgers have played at Phillies. They have
- 30:04Speaker 2: a bunch of veterans. The Phillies have played at Dodger
- 30:06Speaker 2: Stadium a million times because they have a bunch of veterans.
- 30:09Speaker 2: So I mean, the Yankees and Blue Jays play again
- 30:11Speaker 2: twenty times a year, so they're used to going to Toronto.
- 30:12Speaker 2: They're used to go in to the Yankee Stadium. It's
- 30:13Speaker 2: not that big of a deal. So I mean, I
- 30:16Speaker 2: think I love home field advantage. I love home field
- 30:17Speaker 2: and engine football. I love home field advantage in the NBA.
- 30:20Speaker 2: I love home field oh my ice advantage in the NHL.
- 30:23Speaker 2: But in baseball it's just not a thing. I don't think.
- 30:26Speaker 2: And look at the series, look at who won and
- 30:28Speaker 2: who didn't win. Right, road teams won and home teams won.
- 30:31Speaker 2: It's very equal.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Ft fam. Another reason why you should love arena club
- 30:38Speaker 1: is the grading system. So you recently pulled a slap
- 30:41Speaker 1: pack and then you said, hey, it's not great. Great
- 30:45Speaker 1: it for me? They gave you an eight point five
- 30:46Speaker 1: out of ten on your auto Whitey Ford card and
- 30:49Speaker 1: then they show you all the details of the grading system.
- 30:52Speaker 1: It's very interactive within the app, and then you're done.
- 30:55Speaker 1: If you want to sell the card or you want
- 30:56Speaker 1: to know what it's worth, you've got it.
- 30:58Speaker 5: It's like getting taken to school a lot cards. And
- 31:00Speaker 5: I think that's the coolest part of it. If you're
- 31:02Speaker 5: young or old, you understand, Hey, this is how it
- 31:04Speaker 5: gets deciphered all the way through. It shows you the
- 31:06Speaker 5: numbers and how they went through it. I think that's
- 31:09Speaker 5: the coolest part about this whole thing. And then you
- 31:11Speaker 5: can keep it traded or seth or whatever you want.
- 31:13Speaker 1: And it's so much more efficient to do this through
- 31:17Speaker 1: Arena Club. Whether you're ripping a pack, there's the slab packs,
- 31:20Speaker 1: buying a card, selling a card, grading a card, it's
- 31:22Speaker 1: all there for you. We talk about it all season long.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Arena club dot com slash fo u l is where
- 31:28Speaker 1: you can go to give it a shot. Twenty percent
- 31:29Speaker 1: off your first card purchase. Arenaclub dot com slash foul.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Use the code foul at checkout and get twenty percent off.
- 31:35Speaker 1: M Yeah, Otani was not faced. You know, he pitched well,
- 31:40Speaker 1: he did not hit well. Actually he had what four strikeouts,
- 31:42Speaker 1: which is pretty rare for him. He gets the day
- 31:44Speaker 1: off now and then hops into the lineup.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Yeah, because Christopher Sanchez, Because Christopher is really good.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Sanchez is let's not forgetting Christmas is really good. Yeah,
- 31:55Speaker 1: dirty change up. He was top He's gonna finish top
- 31:57Speaker 1: three side in the National League this year. We do
- 32:00Speaker 1: have lineup he'll get to. I mean, I'm just saying
- 32:04Speaker 1: three to be safe in case I'm forgetting someone. But
- 32:06Speaker 1: you're right, he'll probably be number two. So we have
- 32:09Speaker 1: two injury factors here with this series to keep an
- 32:11Speaker 1: eye on. One is Will Smith returning right. We saw
- 32:15Speaker 1: him appear for the first time in Game one later
- 32:18Speaker 1: in the game, but he's not in the starting lineup
- 32:20Speaker 1: for Game two. So that's on the Dodgers side still
- 32:23Speaker 1: Ben Wertvett, who actually took a pitch to the forearm,
- 32:26Speaker 1: but he's shacked, so I don't think it bothered him much.
- 32:28Speaker 1: If anything, you know, the trainers come out and look
- 32:30Speaker 1: at him, and I think he's just given a few
- 32:32Speaker 1: extra minutes for show hey to take a breath. But
- 32:36Speaker 1: Will Smith's out and Kratz Arison Bader is not in
- 32:40Speaker 1: the starting lineup for Game two. He can't run yet
- 32:43Speaker 1: at one hundred percent. This according to manager Rob Thompson,
- 32:46Speaker 1: he would probably or possibly, I should say, that was
- 32:49Speaker 1: the word he used to be available to pinch hit.
- 32:53Speaker 1: He's been a great pick up for them at the
- 32:54Speaker 1: trade deadline. How much does this hurt?
- 32:58Speaker 3: It hurts if the Phillies and they strike out twelve
- 33:01Speaker 3: times again, just like they did the last time, Blake
- 33:04Speaker 3: Snell just kept throwing that curveball to him. Nick was
- 33:07Speaker 3: in the lineup that time. The lineup is essentially exactly
- 33:10Speaker 3: besides Mundo Sosa the last time they faced Blake Snell.
- 33:13Speaker 3: So it hurts them. It hurts them because Bader was
- 33:17Speaker 3: doing well. It hurts them because maybe Nick hasn't gotten
- 33:21Speaker 3: a lot of at bats, but now they have the
- 33:24Speaker 3: guy who had the second most hits, had the best
- 33:27Speaker 3: series last year in the playoffs in Nick Costianas. This
- 33:32Speaker 3: team's back is up against the wall and they're facing
- 33:34Speaker 3: a dude who dominated him less than a month ago.
- 33:38Speaker 3: And I don't care who's out there autto Camp's hitting ninth.
- 33:43Speaker 3: You know, Nick Costianos is essentially in the middle of
- 33:46Speaker 3: the order. I think that six to seventh spot in
- 33:48Speaker 3: the playoffs is the prime location for big spots because
- 33:55Speaker 3: you're you're not gonna let the big boys hurt you.
- 33:58Speaker 3: You're not gonna let Schwarber, Harper and maybe even Baum
- 34:01Speaker 3: if he's had some success against lefties, not gonna let
- 34:04Speaker 3: those guys hurt you. So it's at six, seven, eight
- 34:07Speaker 3: slot that's probably not your better hitters, but you can't
- 34:11Speaker 3: let them hurt you, or you can't let the other
- 34:13Speaker 3: guys hurt you. So you're gonna have to go after somebody.
- 34:17Speaker 1: Yeah, and top three in the order is gonna have
- 34:18Speaker 1: to do better than one for eleven with six strikeouts.
- 34:22Speaker 1: Stars got to be stars. And I know it's only
- 34:24Speaker 1: one game, but star's got to be stars. Trey Turner,
- 34:26Speaker 1: Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper.
- 34:29Speaker 3: And why is Will Smith? Why is Will Smith okay
- 34:32Speaker 3: to catch five innings of a game but not okay
- 34:34Speaker 3: to start?
- 34:39Speaker 2: It's a great question for Dave Roberts. Should have them
- 34:41Speaker 2: on Dodger's territory.
- 34:42Speaker 4: You're here like a hand.
- 34:46Speaker 3: That hand to me has to hurt more because after
- 34:50Speaker 3: the home run he got hit by the pitch by
- 34:53Speaker 3: robertson the curve ball and then the home run, he's
- 34:56Speaker 3: waiting for ta Oscar at home plate. And I mean
- 34:59Speaker 3: he's got the big Mitt thing on his right hand
- 35:02Speaker 3: and he's only high fiving with his left hand. Maybe
- 35:05Speaker 3: I'm making too much out of it because he's got
- 35:07Speaker 3: the big mint thing. But if he's okay to play, sorry,
- 35:12Speaker 3: I know. Ben Rovetz has called some amazing games. I
- 35:15Speaker 3: mean he has been. He has been the picture whisperer
- 35:18Speaker 3: or the pictures are just really good. But Will Smith
- 35:22Speaker 3: played almost half the game, I think, if not more
- 35:24Speaker 3: than half the game. I'm not sure how many innings
- 35:26Speaker 3: he he was in there for. But so he's not
- 35:29Speaker 3: good enough to start. I'm confused by that.
- 35:34Speaker 1: I am too. I mean I thought I caught a
- 35:36Speaker 1: quote from him that he was almost one hundred percent.
- 35:39Speaker 4: Maybe it's game.
- 35:41Speaker 1: Yeah, Oh you think he saw after catching for a
- 35:45Speaker 1: day and a half, I think.
- 35:47Speaker 2: So, I don't know.
- 35:48Speaker 3: Yeah, you mean his hand to sore, like his body's
- 35:51Speaker 3: sore from because he didn't play.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Maybe his body's I don't know why he did.
- 35:54Speaker 1: I don't know, but he was lat in about a month.
- 35:59Speaker 1: He hadn't caught it about him like he's been out
- 36:00Speaker 1: for a minute, you know, And then he gets thrust
- 36:02Speaker 1: back into the scene here. But he's played a lot
- 36:05Speaker 1: of postseason ball. I mean, you guys, tell me, if
- 36:07Speaker 1: you don't catch it all for a month and I
- 36:09Speaker 1: don't think he'd rehab games or anything like that, right
- 36:11Speaker 1: then you just jump right back into the playoffs. There's
- 36:15Speaker 1: a half game versus a game and then a day
- 36:16Speaker 1: off any of that matter, or you're like, nah, screw it.
- 36:20Speaker 2: I mean I screw it. I'm saying screw it because
- 36:23Speaker 2: especially the day off following it. I'm in there.
- 36:26Speaker 3: I mean, I think a rusty let's put it this
- 36:28Speaker 3: one here, here's a good example. Aji Prasinski, Aeric Kratz.
- 36:33Speaker 3: Aeric Kratz is calling great games. Aj Persinski hasn't played
- 36:36Speaker 3: for a month. He's gonna be rusty. Who do you
- 36:40Speaker 3: think is a better hitter? Who do you think is
- 36:42Speaker 3: gonna have more impact than their fore at bats in
- 36:44Speaker 3: the game in the playoffs? To me, it's a no brainer.
- 36:51Speaker 3: Me at one hundred percent is still not as good
- 36:54Speaker 3: as eighty percent of Aj Perzinski.
- 36:57Speaker 1: But Aj has very high pain tolerance. I don't know
- 37:01Speaker 1: what Will has.
- 37:02Speaker 4: That's never judge. I know there's a pain time. Yeah
- 37:05Speaker 4: I don't.
- 37:05Speaker 2: Yeah, you can't judge it. Never judge that because you
- 37:08Speaker 2: never know.
- 37:08Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. I don't know. So that's a
- 37:11Speaker 1: thing because they mentioned it on the broadcast, even though
- 37:13Speaker 1: he said he's close to one hundred percent and laurn Trot.
- 37:15Speaker 1: He's talking and you usually get information like that from
- 37:17Speaker 1: the coaching staff, and she's saying pain tolerance thing for him.
- 37:21Speaker 1: So then I'm like, okay, which which one pain tolerance
- 37:24Speaker 1: thing or one because those two things are a little
- 37:27Speaker 1: bit different. But anyway, he's not in the lineup for
- 37:30Speaker 1: Game two. We'll see if that's a factor. Maybe the
- 37:32Speaker 1: Dodgers are like, ah, we don't care, We're so good.
- 37:34Speaker 1: We'll just ease him back into the mix. The Dodgers
- 37:37Speaker 1: are playing for the World Series, just like they were
- 37:39Speaker 1: playing for October for most of the regular season. They're like,
- 37:41Speaker 1: we're just we're prepping. We're we're getting load management in
- 37:44Speaker 1: for the World Series. I mean they're up one. Oh,
- 37:46Speaker 1: they're in control. Roki Sazaki's the best closer on the
- 37:49Speaker 1: planet now. Skip Schumacher is a skipper now again in
- 37:53Speaker 1: Major League Baseball for the Rangers. And if you caught
- 37:55Speaker 1: what was it Thursday or Friday show, you probably already
- 37:58Speaker 1: had a good feeling about it. Kratz, what did you
- 38:00Speaker 1: say or what did you say? I can't talk. It's
- 38:03Speaker 1: probably some other teams interested. Well, that seemed to be
- 38:05Speaker 1: the case for people that were recording about it. And
- 38:07Speaker 1: he lands himself a four year contract.
- 38:11Speaker 4: Yeah, got you gotta do it.
- 38:12Speaker 3: Maybe you gotta do a litle extra if you really
- 38:13Speaker 3: want your guy free agency. Skip Schumacher went to manager
- 38:17Speaker 3: free agency. So good for Skip. Good for the Rangers too,
- 38:21Speaker 3: because they're still on a spot where they want to
- 38:23Speaker 3: win and he's clearly shown that he can win in Miami,
- 38:26Speaker 3: so I'm pretty sure he can win with a with
- 38:29Speaker 3: a nice star studded lineup too.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Yeah, this was all set up this way, aj that
- 38:34Speaker 1: he goes over to the Rangers to work in the
- 38:35Speaker 1: front office for a year and then Boachie is done.
- 38:39Speaker 2: Yeah, he was a manager in waiting kind of right,
- 38:41Speaker 2: is what they said. He went over there and everyone
- 38:43Speaker 2: this is one of the reasons why they thought Boachi
- 38:45Speaker 2: might only be there for one more year, and he was.
- 38:48Speaker 2: And now Skip slides right in because there was you know,
- 38:50Speaker 2: thoughts of Skip maybe going to San Francisco had been mentioned.
- 38:54Speaker 2: I know Saint Louis. But Ali's back again. There was
- 38:56Speaker 2: places where Skip's name had come up as a possible replace,
- 39:00Speaker 2: and now he's in Texas and they know him, he
- 39:02Speaker 2: knows the organization. Seems like a pretty easy transition if
- 39:05Speaker 2: you ask me.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Yeah, did a nice job with the Marlins. You got
- 39:10Speaker 1: the Marlins to the playoffs and got fired and got fired.
- 39:16Speaker 1: But so did the yemended, so did the GM. Essentially,
- 39:22Speaker 1: they essentially pushed the GM at the time out the door,
- 39:25Speaker 1: and Kim Ang, who built the team for two three years,
- 39:28Speaker 1: got him to the playoffs, and then they were like,
- 39:30Speaker 1: we're basically demoting you and going to hire someone above you,
- 39:33Speaker 1: so you should leave. I mean that's they should have.
- 39:36Speaker 2: You should ask Polar this because you can Skip Schumacher.
- 39:40Speaker 2: You know. He mentioned some things going on there mm
- 39:43Speaker 2: hmm and changed some of them.
- 39:44Speaker 3: Things the culture, the environment.
- 39:49Speaker 1: Well we just heard KP about the Blue Jays culture
- 39:51Speaker 1: and environment and he said it is a completely different
- 39:54Speaker 1: world there now. Coaching staff manager, I guess they matter.
- 40:00Speaker 3: That's exactly what they do. X's and o's in the games. Sorry,
- 40:05Speaker 3: that's not you hope you get them right. But when
- 40:08Speaker 3: people are like menagerial decisions really really suspect all year?
- 40:12Speaker 4: Really? Really were they?
- 40:15Speaker 3: Because you went to the seventh inning guy and the
- 40:17Speaker 3: seventh inning and the eighth inning guy in the eighth inning.
- 40:19Speaker 4: It's paint by numbers, all right, Let's.
- 40:33Speaker 1: Lap hey, shout out to one fan that's going to
- 40:36Speaker 1: be in Philly today in a Foul Territory shirt. Maybe
- 40:40Speaker 1: that brings a little extra luck crafts Foul Territory Shop
- 40:42Speaker 1: dot com shameless plug.
- 40:45Speaker 3: I mean, I don't know if it brings luck or
- 40:47Speaker 3: not to the team. My guy's gonna be comfortable, though,
- 40:50Speaker 3: because that shirt is one of my favorite go to
- 40:53Speaker 3: is for sure.
- 40:55Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 40:56Speaker 1: A j any last thoughts here obviously will be talking,
- 41:00Speaker 1: but any last thoughts on the series anything we didn't get.
- 41:03Speaker 2: To No, I think I think we've covered all the
- 41:07Speaker 2: series pretty well. I just I'm interested to see how
- 41:10Speaker 2: the Cubs respond to getting slapped the other night. How
- 41:13Speaker 2: they come out today was showed on the Mound Bullpen
- 41:17Speaker 2: game for the Brewers. And also, you know what, how
- 41:20Speaker 2: the Phillies respond, because I know they had an off day,
- 41:22Speaker 2: but that's a game the Phillies are used to winning.
- 41:25Speaker 2: In taoscar with the home run late and is a
- 41:27Speaker 2: deja vu all over again. As Jogi Barra said to
- 41:30Speaker 2: what happened to him against the Mets.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Last year, that's true with me with the Cubs, I
- 41:35Speaker 1: just think about really the top two guys that would
- 41:37Speaker 1: be starting playoff games for them would be Justin Steele
- 41:40Speaker 1: and Kate Horton. To be missing both of those, everybody's
- 41:43Speaker 1: missing guys right now. I get that. I'm just saying
- 41:45Speaker 1: it definitely is showing a little bit when you're going
- 41:47Speaker 1: with Boyd on short rest. So we'll see what happens
- 41:50Speaker 1: for them the rest of the way. Here and a
- 41:52Speaker 1: shout out to Brett Phillips always brought a lot of
- 41:54Speaker 1: personality and flavor on the field, and he officially announced
- 41:58Speaker 1: his retirement at the famous photo from what was it
- 42:02Speaker 1: twenty twenty when he was flying around and he was
- 42:06Speaker 1: an airplane. Yeah, COVID, great, Coday.
- 42:09Speaker 4: Wait till he comes on.
- 42:10Speaker 3: I can't wait till he comes on so he can
- 42:12Speaker 3: say he's a quitter and not a retirer.
- 42:14Speaker 1: But we'll wait till he gets on here official announcement.
- 42:18Speaker 1: I mean, he's retired and yet you guys aren't. It's amazing, Uh,
- 42:22Speaker 1: Todd Father is hosting tomorrow. AJ's got the day game,
- 42:26Speaker 1: but he'll join us with a special guest from the booth.
- 42:29Speaker 1: Very nice. Jerry Harrison Junior also scheduled to join us tomorrow.
- 42:33Speaker 1: We'll talk a little Dodgers Phillies series with him. That'll
- 42:36Speaker 1: be after their game too, and then they'll have an
- 42:38Speaker 1: off day, so we'll have plenty of time to break
- 42:40Speaker 1: that down. And then tonight Cubs Brewers postgame show live
- 42:44Speaker 1: on the ft YouTube channel and if you miss anything afterward,
- 42:47Speaker 1: we'll post it on the podcast platform. But we'll also
- 42:51Speaker 1: do our recap up the Phillies Dodgers series there. So AJ,
- 42:55Speaker 1: we'll chat with you at some point tomorrow. Have a
- 42:57Speaker 1: good call tomorrow with the guys. Super fun to listen
- 43:00Speaker 1: to you guys on the Mariners Tigers series. And how
- 43:04Speaker 1: is it in Detroit?
- 43:06Speaker 2: Is it? It's hot today and it's supposed to rain
- 43:09Speaker 2: and get cold tomorrow. It's like eighty five.
- 43:12Speaker 6: It's like eighty five today, Birmingham.
