- 0:00We are super excited about what 2025 is going to bring to us
- 0:04because of where the distribution that we now have
- 0:08across here, which is a a combination of obviously
- 0:12broadcast, cable and streaming. We want to meet race fans where
- 0:17they are or potential race fans where they are.
- 0:20We think this group does exactly that for us.
- 0:23So we couldn't be happier to have them on board.
- 0:27The other thing I want to talk about very quickly is what our
- 0:31industry, the NASCAR industry has done to come together with.
- 0:35You're talking about drivers, race tracks, our race teams.
- 0:40Our industry comes together better than any other sports
- 0:44property when there is a mountain to climb.
- 0:47And that's what happened in 2020.
- 0:49That's what happened honestly, just for the sport overall and
- 0:52you look at the growth of where the sport is and I think it's a
- 0:55testament to the success of the sport to have these world class
- 0:59media companies all want to be part of our sport plus plus The
- 1:03CW. So I'm thrilled to have these
- 1:07guys come LA, Seattle, New York, NY all coming here to to say
- 1:15welcome and excited to be part of our future in 2025.
- 1:19Yeah. Thank you for that, Steve.
- 1:21And I want to ask you one more question, because you've said
- 1:23this quite a bit, but we've talked about the optimization of
- 1:26media rights. Could you talk a bit about how
- 1:29these partners fit that vision of optimization and what that
- 1:32is? Sure.
- 1:33Well, he didn't ask that question before.
- 1:35So the publicist riff on this, I think it's exactly right.
- 1:39So when we were set out to do the deals, the deals really were
- 1:43a combination of optimizing from a distribution standpoint where
- 1:48NASCAR was going to be. And obviously, there's a
- 1:50financial component as well. And we were thrilled with where
- 1:54we netted out on, on the distribution.
- 1:56And I think that optimization is going to be big, big for the
- 2:00growth of the sport that we're going to experience in 25 and
- 2:03beyond, OK. And Mr. Hurst, the fan is at the
- 2:06center of all of this. So can you tell us a little bit
- 2:09about what the fans can expect beginning in 2025?
- 2:12Yeah, I I think what we've seen over the last five years with
- 2:16the industry working together as you've seen.
- 2:19Schedule innovation, you've seen on track product innovation, but
- 2:23we wanted to continue to push the envelope from a distribution
- 2:25perspective as as well. So Steve spoke about the mix of
- 2:29broadcast, cable, direct to consumer and streaming.
- 2:32We wanted to make sure that all the innovation that we're doing
- 2:35from a sport perspective that we were getting in front of new
- 2:38demos and that we were setting ourselves up well for for the
- 2:42future. So with Fox starting off the
- 2:44season with the Clash and the Daytona 500.
- 2:47Moving into a streaming opportunity with Amazon and and
- 2:50Jay's team that we're super excited about a lot of
- 2:52innovation in that summer series over the last two to three
- 2:56years. As you guys have seen after
- 2:58Amazon moves off, then we go to Warner Brothers Discovery and
- 3:01Louis's team with with TNT and Max and then finally closing out
- 3:06the season with with Rick and the NBC Sports Group.
- 3:09We have special partnerships and special relationships with our
- 3:12incumbents at at FOX and NBC. Steve spoke about how they were
- 3:16there for us through 2020. We think we were there for the
- 3:19networks as well, but we're really welcome kind of the new
- 3:23partnerships with with Amazon, with The CW and with that with
- 3:27Warner Brothers Discovery. Look forward to kind of what
- 3:30this means from a fan perspective, potential alternate
- 3:32broadcasts, potential opportunity to get in front of
- 3:35of younger fans as well. So super excited about the
- 3:38growth potential between this, this new strategy.
- 3:40Excellent. Thank you.
- 3:41And so Eric, Fox Sports and NASCAR have been partners since
- 3:442001. Which means that when this new
- 3:46deal starts, we'll be celebrating 25 years together.
- 3:49Can you talk a bit about why this is such a great fit and
- 3:51what you envision for the next 7 years of this relationship?
- 3:54Sure. First I'd like to say thank you
- 3:57to Jim and Ben and Lisa and Mike and Steve and Brian and Steve
- 4:05for just being you know, long time friends and great partners
- 4:09and we can't wait to start this next.
- 4:12New chapter and have great times at any track that we go to with
- 4:17you guys, especially Talladega. The Look we will cross 3 decades
- 4:29when this program New chapter starts and you know nothing
- 4:35makes us more proud than being the one that gets to kick off
- 4:38the season with the Great American race, the Daytona 500.
- 4:42Everybody in this room has been to it and everybody knows how
- 4:47special it is and unique it is to start off a sport with its
- 4:52biggest event. And we want to keep pushing and
- 4:54we want to keep making it bigger and better.
- 4:58And it really is one of the crown jewels at Fox Sports.
- 5:01So we're looking forward to that and we know that NASCAR is
- 5:04investing a lot to make it even bigger and better as well.
- 5:08And I'm actually excited to work with all three partners here.
- 5:11It, you know, this sport is really unique in that, you know
- 5:15we're not going at the same time we're handing off, we're kind of
- 5:18drafting right like off of each other and pushing each other.
- 5:21And I think we each bring something unique to to it,
- 5:25whether you've been doing it for a long time or whether you're
- 5:28new and going to bring something new that we can all steal.
- 5:34And we're going to be collaborating and pushing and
- 5:36and helping promote to make this sport successful for all of us.
- 5:40So that's what I'm excited about.
- 5:41Yeah. Thank you.
- 5:43And so, Jay, Prime Video has quickly become a destination for
- 5:46direct to consumer live sports, most notably the NFL and
- 5:49Thursday Night Football, as well as your recent Black Friday
- 5:52football. What does NASCAR bring to the
- 5:55table in terms of live sports in your programming mix?
- 5:59Yeah, thanks. First of all, Eric was not
- 6:01joking about stealing. For anyone who knows Eric, see
- 6:07the laughs. Did you see that?
- 6:08That's truth. That's like truth coming
- 6:11through. So I do want to echo what Eric
- 6:15said, though and really think that whole NASCAR team, it's
- 6:19been fantastic to get to this point.
- 6:22And as Jim just said earlier, it's really the starting line.
- 6:27Again and and I can't wait for 2025 to get here in terms of you
- 6:32know why NASCAR for Amazon, what we really look for our premium
- 6:38tier one sports that can move the needle for prime and NASCAR
- 6:44fits that sport that has passionate fan base, a large fan
- 6:49base where the sport is must see for them that is extremely
- 6:53valuable. And ultimately what we're trying
- 6:55to do is make the Prime membership program more valuable
- 6:58for our Prime members. That's what we try to do in
- 7:01every decision we make. So NASCAR fits perfectly to
- 7:05that. And then you know we really want
- 7:08to go innovate. You know, we look at this as a
- 7:10seven-year plus partnership. I'm already talking about the
- 7:13renewal later, but you know, but that's how we want to invest so
- 7:17that we can innovate for the long term and we're excited to
- 7:20do that. We're excited to reach a younger
- 7:22audience. Who may have cut the cord and
- 7:25not not watching as much, which we've been able to do with
- 7:28Thursday Night Football as an example.
- 7:30So we're excited to be part of it and excited to work across
- 7:33this partnership group as well. Yeah.
- 7:36Thank you for that. And I like that we're already
- 7:38talking renewals here. So, Louise, at WBD Sports, you
- 7:42continue to expand your live sports portfolio, which is
- 7:45accessible via Max. I'm a subscriber as well as
- 7:48across cable platforms such as TNT and TRU TV.
- 7:51What is it about NASCAR that made sense as a pillar in your
- 7:53sports programming? Yes, thank you.
- 7:56I think we, we, we looked at about 3 big things, I would say.
- 8:00One was sort of the value of the audience, the very passionate
- 8:04audience that NASCAR has, the large audiences that it brings.
- 8:08And I think to to Jay's point, sort of stealing a little bit of
- 8:12what you said is the idea that we're in the tier one sports
- 8:16business. If you look at what we do, we
- 8:17don't have a 24 hour sports channel.
- 8:19We really concentrate on on a few and big things and NASCAR
- 8:23fits right in because of the audience, because of the sport.
- 8:27It's a high stakes sport when you watch it.
- 8:30It's a great viewing experience and I think that's those are the
- 8:34kinds of sports that we want to get behind.
- 8:36The second one was that what could we bring to the table,
- 8:39right? And when you have a portfolio
- 8:41that has TNT, one of the best cable channels.
- 8:45You know we have Tru TV up and coming as a as a channel that is
- 8:48going to have more and more sports.
- 8:50We just recently put all of our sports on Max and now it's
- 8:53becoming one of those primary streaming platforms for sports.
- 8:57We have Bleacher Report on House of highlights which is going to
- 8:59play a big role in bringing younger viewers to to the NASCAR
- 9:03family. So from a portfolio perspective
- 9:06it fits right in with what we want to do.
- 9:07And I think the third thing is the partnership you know and and
- 9:11and I I think that the France family for trusting us.
- 9:15It is a big part. We were, we were rights holders
- 9:17until 2014 I believe. So we know what the combination
- 9:21and the partnership can do together.
- 9:23We're already imagining sort of new ideas and what we can do
- 9:26differently and I think that partnership for us was very
- 9:29important. We we we look at this as a very
- 9:32long term partnership and I know that our through the world
- 9:37through the best class production team.
- 9:40Working hand in hand with NASCAR can bring great things to the
- 9:43table and then when you put all of our assets together, I think
- 9:46it's it's it's part of the the the formula here to try to make
- 9:50the sport bigger and better and not only for NASCAR and for the
- 9:53fans, but also for for us as well.
- 9:55So very excited about it. All right.
- 9:58Thank you. And last but not least, Rick,
- 10:00NBC Sports and NASCAR have a deep and prosperous history.
- 10:04Can you talk about why continuing to have NASCAR's
- 10:06significant part of your portfolio made sense?
- 10:09Well, I think a few things. It starts with the partnership
- 10:12first and foremost. I mean NASCAR is right at the
- 10:14very top of our portfolio in terms of the the tightness, the
- 10:17relationship that we have with the France family, Jim, Lisa,
- 10:20Ben, certainly Steve and Brian, working with them every day to
- 10:24improve the sport to, you know, continue to drive ratings for
- 10:27NBC Sports. We know working with them over a
- 10:29long period of time, there's going to be a certain amount of
- 10:32innovation over the last 10 years.
- 10:33Stage racing, tweaks to the playoffs, all that really plays
- 10:37into one. NASCAR and then you look at the
- 10:40product itself, I mean it's exciting racing, you know, young
- 10:43crop drivers hitting the hitting the hitting the circuit.
- 10:46We're incredibly excited about how it fits into our Q3 and Q4
- 10:49schedule. And you know working with these
- 10:51guys too is the anchor leg of the four by 4 relay that we're
- 10:54in here. You know, we couldn't be more
- 10:56excited where the sports going to be in the future.
- 10:58All right. Thank you for that.
- 11:00So Mr. Phelps, I'll turn it back to you for one last word.
- 11:03Wait, I forgot one thing I'm super excited about.
- 11:07You know, as much as it sucks that he's no longer on the
- 11:09track, what's going to be new this coming year is that Kevin
- 11:12Harvick is going to be joining us in the booth.
- 11:14And I think he's here today, right?
- 11:16Harv, are you here? Yeah.
- 11:18And I think I heard Clint somewhere.
- 11:22So I'm super excited that Kevin's joining us.
- 11:24And I think you're going to make not only Fox's coverage, but
- 11:27NASCAR as good as it possibly can be that you're not on the
- 11:30track. So forgot about that before.
- 11:33Sorry, it's awesome. Welcome Kevin.
- 11:36So I'll close it out. Interesting listening to these
- 11:40guys talk and hopefully everyone got as excited as I did
- 11:43listening to them and the unique pieces about what they're going
- 11:47to bring to our sport. There was a common theme
- 11:50throughout all of them though. It was really our fans and the
- 11:53quality of our fans, the size of the fan base, it's it is they
- 11:58are the best fans in all the sports.
- 12:00So for our fans, what they can expect moving forward is world
- 12:05class production distribution that is going to be the same in
- 12:10many cases and new and others. And it is our job at NASCAR
- 12:15collectively as the stakeholders to bring more and more people
- 12:19into this great sport. And I think what we have just
- 12:22announced today is going to do exactly that.
- 12:26All right. So thank you to everybody on
- 12:27stage and those in the crowd that helped make this historic
- 12:30announcement happen. We're thrilled for what's in
- 12:32store for 2024 and we're equally excited to embark on this next
- 12:35chapter of our great sport, working together with these
- 12:37partners on stage to the media on site.
- 12:40We're going to take a moment to do some photos up here and then
- 12:43we're going to also ask that the family come up and take some
- 12:45photos as well. Following those photos, we will
- 12:47have on stage participants available for breakout
- 12:49interviews in the back, so look for that.
- 12:52But thank you everyone. We look forward to officially
- 12:54crowning our National Series champions tomorrow night, as
- 12:57well as enjoying the festivities between now and then.
- 12:59Have a great rest of your NASCAR championship week in wonderful
- 13:02Nashville, TN Thank you all.
