Weekly Dose of Phat, show number 50 for Friday, April 3rd, 2015.
• 0:07
[gentle music] Broadcasting from the mid-Centurion stronghold anchored firmly in Riverwest, Wisconsin, it is ye olde Weekly Dose of P- Phat.
• 0:27
May I present your jesters of the evening, Sven and Gomez. Hola, amigos. Is this whole show just one big April Fools' joke? [laughs] A pity the fool. A pity the fool.
• 0:39
Listen to this radio show without a beer in their hand. And we're joined in the studio today by Mr. JK Livin. Surly offers steel bikes that riders make their own. Ride a Surly and express your individualism.
• 0:54
You can choose your personal cycling canvas at surlybikes.com. [laughs] Well, so JK, what is happening on the show this week? All right, this week's show, our beards are thinning, most of ours.
• 1:11
Plus we've got beer and chocolate. Our special guest might be Tim Kruger. We announce the Ice Beard winners,
• 1:21
Weekly Dose of Phat involving beach rides, links from every corner of the globe, and if someone calls we'll probably talk to them and give them some kind of prize. That number is 818-918-2453.
• 1:38
For the beer portion of this here thing, uh, courtesy of our pal Uncle Dick we've got Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Cherry Stout, which is part of their Brewer's Reserve Barrel-Aged collection. And that is a mouthful.
• 1:53
[laughs] What's that name again? Yeah. [laughs] It's, uh... Plus we got chocolate with it, so it's an American double imperial stout that'll sit you down with a massive 10% ABV. Oh.
• 2:09
[laughs] It- It does always- Well, it's on- it's only a four-pack, so, you know, I, I don't think we can do too much damage. The fluffer beer was just a light, uh, a light Miller High Life for me.
• 2:21
But, uh, it also gets a very good 85 on the old Beer Advocacy score, and, uh- That's- Yeah... interesting. I think you're gonna like this. It's like a bittery. I'm gonna... I'll...
• 2:33
I'm gonna go ahead and get the chocolate too, because Uncle Dick likes to pair his beer with another flavor. He brought... What were those little oranges the last time he had a beer? Uh, yeah, the- Cuties. Cuties...
• 2:42
Cuties. Cuties. Right, Cuties. And, uh, this time he brought chocolate. There's either, um, Hershey's Special Dark- Or just a straight up, uh, GI Joe Hershey's Milk Chocolate. Milk Chocolate. Okay. How, how you go, Joe?
• 2:58
I [laughs] I, I love you very much, Joe. [laughs] I'm having a problem with this wrapper here. You know what, I'm saying I'm having a problem with the wrapper. [laughs] As I drop my unusually large... Oh.
• 3:14
I thought I was gonna start rapping there for a second. [laughs] So I'm going for the milk chocolate 'cause can't get sweet enough. Oh, that's got some, some sweetness, and definitely a hint of cherry. Mm.
• 3:28
Well, Uncle Dick- See, I don't get cherry off the beer at all. No? I get a sour flavor, and then... The chocolate's good with the beer. Uh-huh. Good job, Uncle Dick.
• 3:41
Maybe it, uh, is even better when the chocolate lingers in your mouth for a little bit. Yeah, I, I'm trying to do the m- Yeah, with the-... melty chocolate in your mouth and then drink beer through the melty chocolate.
• 3:51
Yeah, and then hit it with that old, uh... That is all... Yeah, that is- It's good... fricking killer. I don't know if I'd drink it all the time. That's kind of almost like a dessert. Yeah, definitely.
• 4:01
It's like an aperitif or whatever the hell they call them. When is that? Is that before or after? After. Okay. All right. [laughs] You really want to freak- Frenchie...
• 4:10
you really want to freak out your friends on a fat bike ride- [laughs]... just, like, meet your friend for a after-work ride and bring this four-pack of beer and share some chocolate with them.
• 4:19
[laughs] Sitting on the tailgate of, of [laughs] your- It's not too-... of your pickup truck while the sun sets. What a lovely sunset. It's not too metrosexual at all. [laughs] Disgust- I've d- I drank-... boat shoes...
• 4:32
I drank wine with, with Gomez on the beach. At, at least there was sparkling grapefruit juice or something. [laughs] Oh, yeah, with Tammy. With Tammy, yeah.
• 4:43
Yeah, that was the one and only time I ever saw her on a beach ride. Back in the dark ages. Of fat biking. No, she was on the beach ride where we almost all got arrested, man. That was, like, two years ago. Yeah.
• 4:56
Been a while. Now we're in the true renaissance of fat biking, no? Right. Eh, oui. So I, I, I... The chocolate beer thing's working for me. Again, I think that's kind of like a dessert.
• 5:07
I don't think I'd drink it all night this way. Go nuts. Did you know that the, uh, the Aztecs used chocolate to cure fibromyalgia? [laughs] I, I did not know that.
• 5:17
You know, you say it con- convincingly enough- Do you think if-... everyone'll buy it... do you think if- [laughs] Do you think if folks went to uncledicksbikeshop.com they might learn the answer to that very question?
• 5:30
[laughs] Well, that's the, uh, wacky beer- The wacky beer segment portion... segment. Let's just shift gears slightly or- Like-... alphabetically just-... brap. [laughs] Exactly.
• 5:42
Let's talk about JK going under the, uh... Did you use a trimmer? Did you, uh- Uh, yes. Yeah. One of those old- Like poodle shearing- Yeah... ones? Yeah. I, I- Those are nice...
• 5:54
I have, like, a 19- Was it, like, a gas-powered one or- Feels like it. It's like a 1960s Sears, like, with the Sears logo that was, like, still in cursive. [laughs] Well, that's back when they made- Yeah...
• 6:03
high horsepower motors. Yeah. And I, I've bought other ones that just don't work.
• 6:08
You know- Was this one you just clear, cleared out and- You could t- I have to, I'm clear-cutting my face over here You'd totally be- So my, my, my cheeks are showing again...
• 6:16
you'd be- My delightful dimples are- Oh, for Christ's sake. I know. Yeah, I think it's, like, so kung fu looking, man. Yeah, it does have the Fu Manchu-esque, um, oh, n- well. It's kind of o- the direction I'm- Yeah...
• 6:29
aiming for. So now I- Even though as I stare at it, it just, in different lights- Well, get rid of the mu-... it looks like it doesn't... get rid of the mustache and see what it looks like, or the c- Oh, yeah...
• 6:37
center of it or something. Oh, yeah. That'll- Yeah. And then you can just-... work in progress... and then you can just twist them all the time. [laughs] Oh, you can't, you have no idea. [laughs] It's constant.
• 6:49
I think this summer- My face is a playground, whee... in the heat of summer, I think there's definitely a place for the mustache-less Amish kind of beard thing. Yep.
• 6:57
I think so, too, 'cause that's, my biggest pain point is my mustache. It's in my mouth all the time. I don't do the, like, shelf cutoff thing. Well, I end up with a, the sunburn, windburn nonsense, uh, 12 months a year.
• 7:10
Right on. So as long as I have something facially barrier [laughs] between me and for, eh. Out there. 'Cause otherwi- otherwise I just look like I just rolled through a, like, a poison ivy patch on my face.
• 7:23
[laughs] It's not a very appealing look for anyone involved. [laughs] Well, Gomez is looking pretty aerodynamic over there with his, his beard. [laughs] That's like the funniest thing.
• 7:35
If you guys could see what he's looking at, it's like, yeah, not really that aerodynamic at all, but- Well, relative. Relative, re- [laughs] Yeah, relative, relative to what it was before. But you wanna see me go fast?
• 7:48
Drive me out of an airplane. There you go. There you go. And Sven's lost the, uh, the Linda Belcher from Bob's Burgers silhouette. [laughs] You had that.
• 7:56
It was like her hair was, like, in the silhouette [laughs] of your beard for- Oh. Maybe I should go back for that. That was...
• 8:04
It was- I don't, I don't, I had watched that show, but- I had referenced it to a couple people and they were like, "Oh, shit, yeah. I see that." [laughs] Huh.
• 8:11
Well, I have to, I have to admit, it's been a while since I watched that show. I'd have to go back and watch it, but that's, uh... Thanks for that. [laughs] That's what we're here for.
• 8:20
[laughs] This week's Beards and Beer segment was sponsored by the aforementioned Uncle Dick and his trusty bead slip. By the way, Ol' Richard is working on a new product for all you nipple twisters out there. Oh, yeah.
• 8:35
Check out more at uncledickspikeshop.com. And learn the answer to the burning question, is fibromyalgia even real? Fibromyalgia. [laughs] And- Und spoke prep. And- Und gooch butter. All these things after the break.
• 8:50
And the thing is, well- I went out there, didn't I? [laughs] Not too bad. The thing is, you know, he, the fact that he brought us this beer and chocolate in no way means we're giving him preferential treatment.
• 9:04
Yeah, exactly. [laughs] Everybody else making bead slip out there, you just bring it by. We'll sling some bead slip. Yeah. Well, we're, we're sellouts easily. But thanks again, Richard. Very nice of you. Yes, indeed.
• 9:16
Richard, big long lingering man hug with chocolate. [laughs] Oh, to the point of almost uncomfortable. [laughs] With chocolate. Oh, smell his hair. You're tuned to Fat Bike Radio.
• 9:32
Hi, this is Sonya Looney from Fat Bike. When I daydream, I dream of long rides on powder and a weekly dose of Fat with Sven and Gomez. Hey, welcome to the radio program. Tim Kruger.
• 9:44
Now, Tim has been the product developer for Salsa Cycles through all of their Fat Bike products for the last six years and is now- Yeah, that's a long time for those guys...
• 9:55
yeah, and is now an independent product developer for
• 9:59
several companies in the Fat Bike market, and is fresh back from his trip to, uh, the Taipei Bike Show, and he's gonna share a little bit about what he saw in the Fat Bike- Trends in the industry... right?
• 10:12
And maybe talk about where he thinks Fat Bikes are going. That would be awesome, because guess what? We didn't get to Taipei this year.
• 10:20
So live from Moab, Utah, where he just got off the trail, he's probably a big sweaty mess, Mr. Tim Kruger, welcome to the show. Yeah. Thank you, sir. Thank you. So talk to us about- Well, uh-... Taipei, man. Yeah.
• 10:36
Well, I think, uh, definitely it's one thing to see that, uh, Fat Bikes are becoming a, a major thing, and I think we, we started to see that last year.
• 10:45
Um, the Taipei show is a really good space for kind of seeing what, uh, what the general movement of the industry is, because the small, uh, the manufacturers overseas that don't necessarily have their own brand, um, they, you know, they're working with the big brand names and they're d- and they're understanding where they're going.
• 11:06
And then as well, they're kind of making their own side products, right? Mm-hmm. And trying to issue it under different labels and stuff like that.
• 11:13
So when you see these, uh, manufacturers kind of have what's called open mold or open model product available, you kind of know the industry's definitely headed that way and it's, uh, it's picking up traction.
• 11:25
And so last year, uh, we saw a lot of, you know, Fat Bikes just generally, uh, Fat Bikes are becoming open model products.
• 11:33
This year we're seeing, uh, the segmentation of Fat, which is what's exciting to me, 'cause it kind of follows the same, uh, trajectory that the 29er wheel did in that, you know, first thing we had a 29er and it was a hard tail and it was pretty cool, and same thing with a Fat Bike, right?
• 11:49
And then we had a 29er, uh, with a front suspension fork, and that was even cooler, and kind of then we got there with, uh, with Fat Bikes as well.
• 11:58
And, you know, now today we have, you know, 29ers, the whole spectrum of, of, of products, and I think that's where Fat Biking is going, right?
• 12:07
So we're, we're seeing, uh, lots, lots and lots of tire choices all the way from, uh, 3 inch to 5.0 inch, at, and true 5 inch now. We're seeing, um- Cover, covering our range here at fatbike.com. Right.
• 12:21
[laughs]Three to five, that's what w- that's what we should be calling the, the site now. That's the, that's the sentence that the county judge gave me, three to five.
• 12:28
[laughs] Three to five inches, Gomez- Yeah, that's all-... that's what you can report about... [laughs] that's all you can actually tell anybody about. [laughs] Yeah.
• 12:35
The other three to five are reserved for your own personal use, man. I got them, man. [laughs] And that's, uh, that's what's exciting me, is these, uh- [laughs]... three-inch tires. Um, doing a...
• 12:47
You know, I've been riding a bunch of the bikes. Um, some of the, some of the development I'm doing, and actually s- the test riding I was just doing today, was on some, uh, three-inch tired product.
• 12:57
And I think, uh, you're gonna start to see segmentation happen in fat bike thing, just like we saw with other, uh, things, you know, other bikes that came about.
• 13:07
So suspension and kind of the, the summer fat thing, I think, is actually gonna come back to, like, three-inch tires. 'Cause the, the four-inch tire thing is cool. Uh, you know, it works real well off-road.
• 13:18
Uh, it, uh, you know, it's not perfect for, for dirt. You know, it's a little bit, uh, big. So the three-inch tire, I think, is really where you're gonna end up for the guys who wanna ride in the summer, right?
• 13:28
So- So, j- Tim-... you're gonna see four-inch- Just- Yeah? Just a, kind of a quick question or observation, 'cause you're around a bunch of areas. Are there...
• 13:37
I- i- is it like, the three-inch tire is gonna be good pretty much, you know, n- nationwide on trails?
• 13:43
Is, are there, like, regional differences in, in, uh, uh, you know, the makeup of a trail that would make you lean more towards the fat or more towards the three side of things?
• 13:53
Yeah, I think you, I think you definitely, you could see that.
• 13:56
Um, you know, as, as, all the bikes that I have in my stable now, I would pretty much pick a four or a five-inch tire, um, for a beach ride, for snow riding, uh, obviously that.
• 14:07
Uh, but for trail riding now, um, the three-inch tire, for me, it, it crowns nicely, it rolls nicely, uh, it has a good, good mix of weight and traction.
• 14:17
Uh, and that's what I, you know, here, uh, we just, we rode, uh, Amasa Back today, we rode the White Rim over the past, uh, three days, and, you know, there's lots of sandy sections and you also still have to rock, so you kinda wanna not get caught in the, uh, cracks in the rock.
• 14:31
You wanna float over the sand. You want some cornering traction. It was really giving all that, and then, uh, the bike I was riding was, you know, 27 pounds, so, uh, it's pretty, pretty darn light. So w- Right...
• 14:43
so what do you think of, then, the... Okay, so three inches is great on trails. I, I kinda get that. I've been trying [laughs] myself. Um, what about 26, B+ or 29er size, like, rims?
• 14:58
Yeah, and that's where, uh, and that's where, uh, kinda coming back to the idea of what we saw at the Taipei shows, we're gonna see all of that. [laughs] You know? [laughs] Well, that's, it's great.
• 15:07
It's actually, it's- Choice is good... it's gonna be, uh, it's gonna be like a, it's probably gonna be another year or two before it settles down, but, um, there was, there was 26, 27.5 and 29
• 15:19
rims in 50 millimeter, 60 millimeter. There's, you know, tires all the way at three, three and a quarter, 3.5, 3.8.
• 15:27
There was even a, a rumor from one of the big, uh, manufacturers that makes a lot of wheel parts for one of the largest brands, that there's a 27.5 by 3.8- Wow... coming out. Wow. Um, I don't know- [laughs] That's-...
• 15:40
you know, all they said is they were making it for- I like that idea... somebody, so it's, uh- Yeah... that's cool... the full blend and spectrum of- [laughs]...
• 15:46
of how fat bikes are going to influence the mountain bike- But, yeah... of tomorrow. You know? I'm pretty sure it's still a fad, though. Yeah. What do you think, Tim? I think it is. Yeah.
• 15:54
After being, after being at Taipei and seeing all the people displaying their wares, do you think fat biking is a fad? [laughs] Well, it's definitely, it's most definitely a fad.
• 16:03
You know, it's a, it's a fad that's definitely, um, getting a whole bunch of riders stoked and a whole bunch of people out on, uh, on bikes and, uh, so you know, that's, that's obviously a bad thing, right? Yeah.
• 16:14
Yeah, we hate it. Except, except for the b- [laughs] Except for the beer part. That's not, that's not bad- I mean-... and it's also not a fad, [laughs] so. I can't, I can't wait.
• 16:23
I've, uh, for the last couple of years- I mean, definitely-... I've ridden what you're talk- I've ridden a 29+ Krampus in the summer, and I've ridden a fat bike in the winter, except for those summer sand rides.
• 16:34
So I've, uh- Mm-hmm... I think that this movement is, is really good, and what I really look forward to riding is B+, where you don't ride- Yeah... where you don't get that extra- Height...
• 16:46
bit of height and raise your center of gravity. Sorry, I'm talking through the, with my hands through the radio. Yeah. [laughs] Um, uh,
• 16:54
I, I look forward to riding one of those bikes, and it seems that that's going to be the platform for the dualie bikes that are gonna be- Yeah, definitely that's our to- B-... that's our... B+, remember? Yeah, exactly.
• 17:08
Remember how we made that up? That's, that's exactly right. [laughs] Seeing those, uh, and that's what I was riding today, was a, a 27.5+ bike with, uh, um, the, the Panaracer, um, three-inch wide tire. Fappy Nimble.
• 17:21
Uh, Fappy Nimble. Mm-hmm. Not a bad tire. With the, the- I like it in a fat bike there.
• 17:26
It's actually- The tire, they say it's 3.5, but it actually measures 3.0, so it real- fits really nicely in these, in these B+ bikes. Yeah.
• 17:34
Um, and that's, uh, what I really like is, when you're looking at the idea of the 26 by 4 and the 27.5 by 3, and then even 29 by 2.2, all of those are extremely close to each other in the overall height of the tire.
• 17:49
  Mm-hmm.
• 17:49
So you can, uh, the, the bikes are gonna ride similarly, and you can even presumably use, you know, one frame designed to fit 26 by 4 and build wheel sets in the other s- sizes to fit in, and have a lot of choice as to how you wanna ride your bike, where you wanna ride your bike, right?
• 18:04
So- Sure. Yeah, for sure... I think that's, that's a pretty cool thing that's coming.
• 18:08
Um, and I think there's gonna be a l- there's gonna be a lot of companies that are trying to, uh, maybe fill in the middle there, or make the bike flexible to do maybe two of those options, and that's, uh, that's gonna be really cool for a lot of riders, um, because maybe a rider might say, "Well, I don't want to sell the new 29er," um- And, you know, in the future they might wanna try B+.
• 18:30
There's probably gonna be a lot of product this year on the market that, um, you know, is, is gonna be sold either as B+ or 29er and can take the other one as well. Sure. So. Right on. Yeah. Killer.
• 18:42
With your career moving forward, what, what is your new role basically gonna involve? You're still in the fat bike space. He can't talk about it right now. [laughs] Yeah. Well, um, I have, uh,
• 18:55
I have four clients in the bike industry that I'm helping them grow their business. Uh, they're all, um, related to fat bikes or B+ bikes or mid-fat bikes of some sort.
• 19:06
Uh, is, is I think fat bikes definitely have a special set of needs, espe- uh, in, in designing them, and, uh, obviously I'm aware of those needs, so that helps. And that's kinda where I, where I'm at right now.
• 19:18
What I'm trying to do is help these small companies reach their goals, right? So there's, there's a lot of small companies out there that I think they're, they're the innovators in the industry.
• 19:27
They know, they're kinda seeing the next thing because that's with how they're riding, and that's what they're doing, and they just maybe don't have the knowledge of how to get the products made.
• 19:36
And that's where I'm stepping in and, uh, really helping them take their vision, uh, from a, from a concept to a, to a sellable product. I think you should have, like, 100 clients tomorrow. Yeah. [laughs] Yeah.
• 19:51
I sure would love to, yeah. What, what, what's your phone number if somebody wanted to give you a call?
• 19:55
[laughs] [laughs] Or do you, or do you have a website yet that's kind of explaining what your role- Do you have a PM yet, Tim? [laughs] Yeah. Who's gonna, who's gonna whore you? Who's gonna whore you out, man?
• 20:04
I, I, I don't, uh, I don't have a... Yeah, I'm actually got plenty of work already just, uh, by word of mouth, so. [laughs] Very good. Well, it's, yeah, obviously you're a talented guy. Yeah.
• 20:14
We've ridden a bunch of your products, and certainly appreciate the contribution- Thank you... you've made to fat biking, for sure. Thank you. Thank you. You- Yeah. Yes, sir. And I, and I hope to keep doing that.
• 20:23
I think, uh, def- definitely you're gonna see, um, you're gonna see some major, some more major products from me in the next year. Uh, so I'll definitely keep you guys at, uh, fatbike.com apprised of 'em because- Yeah...
• 20:34
there's, uh, there's some pretty exciting things, and I think there's a few of 'em that, uh, the industry hasn't even, uh, thought of yet.
• 20:41
[laughs] So that's, uh, that's pretty exciting to me, to help these, uh, small innovators get that stuff on the market. Well- Amen...
• 20:47
you know, any, any Wednesday night you wanna call in and just kinda, like, let something slip, we're always here at 818-918- [laughs] 2453. You bet. [laughs] You bet.
• 20:58
Well, uh, I think the big thing is, uh, is the, the first major thing is at Sea Otter, so, um- Oh, yeah... I'll, uh- Who's going to Sea Otter?... I'll hopefully be able to talk to you guys then.
• 21:07
Yeah, we'll be out there. We're going to Sea Otter. Well, to our listeners, that's Tim Kruger. You heard him first here- Did they hear that we're going to Sea Otter too? [laughs]... on Fat Bike Radio.
• 21:17
And, uh, you're gonna be hearing big things from Tim. You already probably have ridden some of the product that Tim helped develop. You bet. And, uh, that's what we try and do, is bring you the new stars of the industry.
• 21:31
Before you know about 'em, we have them- Tim-... on the program. They, uh, they, we beg them to be on the show. [laughs] Exactly. [laughs] Right on, Tim. Well, thanks, thanks for being on the show, Tim. You rock, man.
• 21:46
Cool, guys. Thanks a lot. I appreciate it, and I hope to, uh, talk to you soon as we get some more cool stuff out there. You bet. Okay, dude. Have fun out in Moab. Have a good one. Peace. I will.
• 21:56

• 22:34
[upbeat rock music] [whistles] This is your weekly dose of fat. Hey, welcome back to the radio program. Now here's Sven with the weekly dose of fat. But yeah, I'll start off the weekly dose of fat for sure.
• 22:52
So fat in here. Uh, yeah. So I guess first off, we talked about this ice beard contest for last month. Today we award the prizes. And, uh, I don't know, we had a lot of entries.
• 23:04
It was fairly low barrier to entry, have hair on your face or simulate said hair and get it frozen.
• 23:11
[laughs] And, uh, we got a bunch of people, and, uh, three lucky folk have won stuff, so says, why don't you let us know what's up there, JK? Third place goes to Jeff from up there Alaska way.
• 23:23
Jeff works at Beaver Sports and will be getting a Vibe Cycles flask and flask holder for his ride. Nice. Hey, second place goes to my buddy Jordan Blackson, so we can't... There's no, no hanky panky here.
• 23:38
Sven doesn't even know Jordan. I met Jordan- Yeah, I-... out there in Alaska... did not make the connection that, uh, but that's, you know, we know everybody in the fat biking community, so really. Yeah.
• 23:48
Jordan's- No, no, uh- Jordan's been on TV talking about Global Fat Bike Day up there in Anchorage, so. Right on.
• 23:53
Hey, not only, uh, because he has a killer ice beard, but because he was sporting a drunk cyclist jersey- Yeah...
• 23:59
did Sven make the choice that Jordan wins a pair of Surly Marge Lite rims in the, uh, I think that, uh, we can call it, you know, brown. Brown. [laughs] Limited edition bronze anodized. Bronze. Brown.
• 24:16
It would be a nice color eyeshadow on- Yeah. Yeah, I could see that on, like, a very glamorous model- Mm... with a little bit of a sheen to it and yep. Smoky. So you got that going for you, Jordan.
• 24:26
[laughs] Right, right on, Jordan. Thank you. Yeah, he, I just, I emailed him and, and just kinda asked him what it was like up there. I didn't know, I didn't know who the hell he was.
• 24:35
[laughs] Jordan- I'm reading this when I- How are you?... when I looked, when I looked at, at our outline, I'm reading this, I'm going- Is that Jordan Blackson? 'Cause I didn't put his last name in the story. Oh, oh.
• 24:46
So I was- Fine. Yeah. Sorry, man, for calling you out on the radio.
• 24:50
[laughs] But anyway, yeah, he was just relating to his, uh, his, where he lives up in, uh, Anchorage, and, uh, you know, that it's a great place to ride, obviously.
• 25:00
That a lot of people ride up there, and they got all those great events. How bad could it be? Jordan is my, like, my, my guardian angel.
• 25:07
I, whenever I go on that, uh, that, uh, Speedway shop ride, I always say to him, "You're my lifeguard." [laughs] "You're my partner. You're the one that's gonna make sure that I have a proper burial."
• 25:20
[laughs] He's like, "I got you, man." Right on. So who's the Ice Beard champs, then?
• 25:26
You know, there was a lot of great beards, and I didn't necessarily pick them based on any criteria other than I like that one right there. That's pretty nice. Um, so our grand champion is Robert S. No way.
• 25:39
Yes, he's our grand prize winner- Cool... and he's going to get a bunch of cool fat biking stuff, including two Surly Nate 3.8 ultralight tires, a Surly T-shirt, styling hip flask, all Surly, Surly, Surly, Surly.
• 25:51
This was a Surly thing. Should we try and call him? We should try and call him. All right. Let's see if we can do that right now. Let's summon a witch. Bring me a witch with telo communication skills. Oh, she left.
• 26:08
[laughs] She actually went home. Well, wait, no. [laughs] You can tell when she just leaves the building? [laughs] Thank you for calling Erick's in St. Paul's Highland Park neighborhood.
• 26:21
For store location and hours, please stay on the line. To speak to someone in sales, please press five. To speak to someone about service or parts, please press six.
• 26:30
We're located at 2191 Ford Parkway, across from [hold music] Erick's Bike and Board. This is Kaylin. How can I help? Hi, is Rob available? Just a moment. Thank you.
• 26:49
[hold music] [laughs] See, now this is where we should have video. [laughs] Thank you for holding. This is Rob. How can I help?
• 27:05
Hey, Rob, it's Sven and Gomez from Fat Bike Radio. How are you doing? Hey, fantastic. How are you? Great. Do you have, uh, just a minute or so to take a little chat right now? Absolutely. Right on.
• 27:19
Well, uh, you are our 2015 Ice Beard contest winner. [bell ringing] Hey. Dude, you- Fantastic... you win a live Bengal tiger. [laughs] Yeah, congratulations, man.
• 27:32
I just wanted to, uh, you know, check in with you and see, you know, what you think about that. That's pretty awesome. I just, uh, got my new Bengal tiger cage, so it'll be a perfect timing.
• 27:42
[laughs] No, April Fools', dude. Yeah. You, you win, you win some sweet-ass tires and a s- and, and a, and a shirt and- And a flask and- And a flask... and a Bengal tiger paw. Just not the whole actual cat. Oh, okay.
• 27:57
[laughs] Right on. So you, you obviously, you work at Erick's up there in Minneapolis, correct? Yeah, I'm at the, the St. Paul store. Right on.
• 28:04
So, uh, you know, we're a little familiar with Minneapolis, but tell us what your scene's like up there these days, fat bike-wise. It's pretty amazing.
• 28:13
Um, the, uh, Fat Boy we, we sell mainly the specialized Fat Boy, and that was pretty close to our, uh, number one bike last year, which for- That's a good one... a bike shop- Wow...
• 28:25
to have a $2,000 bike be their number one bicycle is- Oh, wow... is unheard of. Like, including against- So you're saying like-... Trek Madones and, or you don't, you guys specialize, but in, [laughs]
• 28:34
against other categories of bikes, you're saying you sell more fat bikes? Dollars-wise- Wow... the specialized Fat Boy is the bike that we sold the most of. Amazing. Man. Well, that- That is amazing...
• 28:44
what does that say about fat bike? Now, you know what I think? I think it's just a fad. Yeah. Yeah. You know, it's- Absolutely. I think you guys are all buying into a big farce.
• 28:50
[laughs] Some blogger this week actually- Suckers... published a fricking story that said, "Are fat bikes just a fad?" It's like, what, what- It Googles really well, man. What? [laughs] Well- Yeah...
• 29:02
so Rob, thanks very much for, uh, participating in our contest. It was a, a, a really sweet beard. Um, nice and- Thank you... symmetrical. Uh, it's got good accumulation- [laughs]... on it.
• 29:13
Um- These are classical freestyle rules, I believe, apply. Yes.
• 29:15
Yeah, no, I think, uh, if you would've been down here for the, the beard contest and walked on stage with that, you definitely would've gotten first place- [laughs]... 'cause that's, that's great.
• 29:22
So, uh, what does it take- Well, thank you very much... what does it actually take to, you know, get that much ice on your beard?
• 29:27
How, how, are you riding a daily commute, or was that after a, a, a pleasure ride, or how'd that, how'd it come about? That, that was after I, I, uh, I lead a Wednesday night ride after I close up my shop.
• 29:38
So we leave out of the shop at 8:00. We ride for an hour to an hour and a half, and that was as I was pulling into my apartment, um, snapping a quick shot after that. So- Wow...
• 29:49
what it takes is being sort of out of weight or, uh, out of shape and overweight- Don't know anything about that... and breathing really hard for an hour and a half.
• 29:56
[laughs] That, that sounds a lot like how I get mine, I'll tell you what. [laughs] Hard work, man. All right, man. Well, thanks for being on the show and, uh, you know, don't take any wooden gnomes. And- Very good...
• 30:07
if you wanna check in some other time, give us a shout. Well, yeah, don't be a stranger. 818-918-B-I-K-E. [laughs] All right. Thank you, fellas. Have a good night. All right, man. Have a good night, you too. Bye. Bye.
• 30:21
You're tuned to Fat Bike Radio. Somebody's calling us at our radio program. What's up? Wow, a radio program. Yes.
• 30:37
It's a welcome from said radio program. Sweet. I expec- I think I got the wrong number. I was- [laughs] I was trying to order pizza. [laughs] We do pizza. Yeah. You want, like, deep dish? Go to Chicago. We got- Yeah.
• 30:51
Do you guys have, you guys ha- do you guys have tube steak? Do you guys, you guys make that? We've, we've had tube steak. I don't know [laughs] if we, if we make it. [laughs] We... Yeah, like, I don't know.
• 31:02
You gotta want it. I, I heard Gomez makes the best sausage. I don't know. Hmm, very well. Hmm. So who do we have on the line? Um, this is John Wayne. Hi, John. Pleasure to have you calling in. No, this is- [laughs]
• 31:19
This is Tupper, uh, up in, uh, Fairbanks, Alaska. Ah, I kinda give it a, I kinda give it a guess judging by your phone number, but you know what? We got a lot of friends up in Alaska- Yeah, the 907... for some reason.
• 31:28
I don't know. Lots of friends. Yeah, there's only, like, five of us that have phones though- Right. [laughs]... so, you know, it can't be that many people.
• 31:37
So for those of you that don't know, those of you that don't get the internet, Tupper Becker is the purveyor, he's w- like what I like to call bag slinger. Bag slinger. Which means he spends- Bag slinger...
• 31:50
half of his damn life handcuffed to a sewing machine, and [laughs] that's where one hand is. We don't know where the other hand is. [laughs] Yeah, he's multi-dextrous I understand. Yeah.
• 32:02
But, uh, you know- I'm, I'm the bag slinger. That's why all the sausage jokes. I get it. I like what you did there. [laughs] See? Yeah. We didn't even know we were doing it, and we did it. It's a res- Yeah. Yeah...
• 32:11
it's a reciprocal, reciprocal process- So, so good... much like sewing a bag. So good We sew it inside out. So, my man, how's it going? Or tuck it between your legs. [laughs] I'm [laughs] This is getting dirty. Hey, hey.
• 32:28
Let's get serious. This is a mom-and-pop podcast here. Like, you know, we got kids listening. Hey, Ma. How you doing? Right? I don't know. [laughs] Sorry, kids.
• 32:37
[laughs] We're just- Uncle Tupper made me use my- We're just talking to Daddy... use my sense of, of decency. This is a family show. So Tup, my man. Oh. You just did- I'm, I'm just, I'm chilling, recovering...
• 32:55
you just did your first White Mountains 100, right? Yeah, my first century on snow. Never, never done bike races on snow before. What was your experience like? Uh, I w-
• 33:10
I've done, like, the Seattle to Portland and, um, but never, like, as a racer. I'm not that guy. I don't have that kind of DNA. Uh-huh. I'm, I'm 5'10", 180 when I'm in shape. So, uh, yeah.
• 33:24
But I went, I went straight from the sewing machine to the bicycle with, like, yeah, four hours of sleep and was like, "All right. Let's go ride our bikes. This is gonna be dumb, and we'll finish hopefully."
• 33:36
And we did, and- Right on... yeah, everything worked out. [laughs] That's no, no, it's no small accomplishment. That's for sure. What was the course like? How did you, uh, how did you fare during the actual ride itself?
• 33:47
Um, the, the conditions were pristine just like they were last year. I mean, all the super bionic athletes like Tim and Josh and Heath and all those other cool guys, they all did it in, like, eight hours.
• 33:59
But that's to be expected because, you know, they're awesome. But, uh, you know, it w- the conditions were just, uh, just perfect.
• 34:05
It's, you know, it's melting a little bit during the day, and then it freezes at night, and it compacts. It makes it brick hard. Um, but, uh, it was great till about 42 mile, and then we had to walk a little bit.
• 34:17
It was a little punchy, a little bit of, you know, mashed potato snow. We ended up pushing up probably around seven miles total at the top of the pass and then up the wall.
• 34:28
But God, you couldn't, you couldn't ask for better race conditions, and it is such a good vibe. And the...
• 34:36
Man, after, of all the races I've ever done, like, that thing is spot on with all the race checkpoints, like the volunteers there and people at headquarters. The most professional, like,
• 34:49
yeah, nicest people just helping you out, helping you succeed. You know? Killing it. They drop a dick joke, we make you laugh. [laughs] Yeah. So we're gonna fit right in then. Yeah, just awesome people.
• 35:00
We're, we're, we're actually, uh- Yeah [laughs]... allegedly gonna do a checkpoint at the ITI next year, so we'll, we'll, we'll try to bring some levity to that event. But it sounds like maybe- Yeah...
• 35:09
White, White Mountains is right up our, uh, bailiwick. Oh, yeah. There. Yeah. Oh, I think, I think you guys would fit in swell at the ITI. It'd be fun.
• 35:17
As long as I don't have to ride 100 damn miles, I'll fit in just fine. [laughs] [laughs] Yeah. Uh. So it, at the last, the last 20 mile legs there was a,
• 35:29
uh, I think it was either Heather or Jeff Holy or one of those elite super ninjas, they left a little bottle of Fireball- Oh, nice... like, on the trail for us.
• 35:38
No one picked it up, and I found it and slammed that thing and- Right on... that gave me the, the, the juice I needed to, to break my record or something. I don't know. [laughs] Nice, man.
• 35:51
Yeah, sounds like it would be a blast. Well, cool. It d- Yeah... the pictures I saw, it looked like, like you were, uh, at the end of your rope but also probably one of the happiest times of your lives.
• 36:04
Oh, you know what? I, I felt, I felt good, and my mom showed up with, like, two big cheeseburgers.
• 36:09
And, uh, yeah, no, I fell off my bong at 80 mile, but I felt great, and, like, I'm, like, yesterday my legs were a little bit sore, but that's to be expected. You know? Um, yeah.
• 36:20
But no, I feel, I feel great, and my buddy Chris that I rode with, like, he's, he's su- feeling super ninja, and he came over today and for a couple of, like, old fat guys that are out of shape and haven't ridden their bike nearly as much as they should, like, we're doing pretty good.
• 36:33
So- Nice... it's all good. Right on. Very good. Well, all right. Yeah. Tupper Becker, everybody, from Becker- Thank you for letting me call in, guys... Tupper Becker, ladies and gentlemen. He makes bags and such. Yeah.
• 36:44
Hey, speaking of bags, Tups, you know, they got that, uh- That old Van Halen getting back together this year. Are they gonna make it up to Alaska? I know. I saw that last night on, was it, uh, one of those talk shows?
• 36:57
Yeah, Jimmy Kimmel. I don't know. I need to do that. [laughs] I just, I remember you did a couple bags of kinda the old- Yeah, I think I requested one yesterday... for, for that theme on the bag.
• 37:04
It's Jeff Gilmore and- Yeah... and Greg- Yeah... Greg Mattis too, the little, uh, Van Halen- The closet Van Halen fans... in their blood. I'm t- I'm zenning them to come to Summerfest- Yep...
• 37:16
on July 4th, which is my birthday, because they have a date on the 5th in Seattle, but they're not playing on the 4th. They're gonna show up. I'm saying they should show up at Summerfest. So anyway. Where's Summerfest?
• 37:29
Summerfest is like a big music festival in Milwaukee. It's, uh- The center of the universe, man, is Milwaukee... the Rolling Stones are opening the thing this year. I mean, this is a big deal.
• 37:40
It's like 12 days or something of just- Wow... like, four good stages of music, not good bands on every single stage all the time, but it's a lot of good stuff there. It's been going on since, like, 1975.
• 37:53
If you, if you're from Milwaukee- Oh, yeah, I was, like, negative five then. [laughs] 45 years. Yeah. [laughs] Right on. That's about when I graduated from high school is when he was born. Really? Uh [laughs] Yeah.
• 38:04
Kind of, yeah. Disco was big. Disco was big back in the day. But isn't disco big everywhere? It's back. Do... Yeah, we were, we were all dancing to it- Oh, baby, it's back... on the show.
• 38:15
Back on the show It's a radio show, the two of us. Don't talk to me. I'll, uh, whatever anymore. [laughs] So check out, uh- Well, thanks for letting me be on, guys...
• 38:24
what's the name of your Becker Precision Sewing Ninja- Beer Drinking, or Precision Beer Drinking? Well, no. What's your URL for your site, for people- Oh, yeah... to find you on the web? Well, it's, uh,
• 38:37
beckergear.com, but, uh, we just bought Fat Bike Ba- or fatbikeframebags.com also. Oh, nice. Oh, good one. So we're gonna- That'll help your SCR- We're gonna stick, we're gonna-... quite a bit there, sir.
• 38:47
[laughs] Oh, yeah. I gotta get, I gotta get situated.
• 38:50
I got some friends at QBP and they said they're gonna help me out in getting started maybe, and they know some people, so, so hopefully big things are in the works and, uh, yeah. Sounds good, man.
• 39:01
Hey, get a bag from this guy. You could say, "Hey, I got a bag before Becker became- Becker Supply Esquire... Becker Marts Before I sell out like all the other big guys. Beckermarts.com.
• 39:14
Available at your local Pedro's Gas Station. [laughs] All right. Peace out. Take care, guys. See ya. [laughs] Thanks, Ron. Later, homie. Talk to you later. Hi, this is Eric from Surly.
• 39:27
Uh, every time I'm looking for the preferred nomenclature, I listen in to Gomez and Sven on Fat Bike Radio. Nomenclature. We now are entering the Twilight Zone.
• 39:40
Yeah, so we, we're wondering- [sings] Did you guys know that Van Halen's touring this summer? I heard that. If they come to, if they come to Summerfest- And Diamond Dave had to get 17- With David Lee Roth?
• 39:50
Yeah, with the, uh... But, uh, no, uh, Michael Anthony, just, uh, Wolfgang- Yeah... is on the bass. Oh, baby. But yeah, they got Diamond Dave. Or no, it's, it, that's, Wolfgang is Eddie's- Eddie's son, yep.
• 40:02
So that's pretty awesome. Yep. I think their, I think their Chicago date is the same as the Rev Wars 24. Did you, did you hear the, uh, Lollapalooza lineup?
• 40:10
Ooh, la la, there's a couple bands that actually an old fart like me would want to go see. Hmm. Yeah. I didn't see the whole thing. I just- Oh, God forbid though. They'd have to parachute me into that.
• 40:19
[laughs] Yeah, that's the thing. It's like- It's like-... I just, I, I'm like, I'm looking at, I just look at the pictures of the crowd going, "Uh, no." It's just the traffic.
• 40:28
It's just like, oh- Well, how, h- it's only, what, 90 miles away, but how many hours would that take- [laughs]... to get there? Oh, my God. I, I, I, you know, the, the Stones are coming to Summerfest too.
• 40:42
They're opening Summerfest. Prima nocta. The, uh- Well, and, and shifting it... the, the front section seats are $425 face value. Wow. Not some inflated price. I saw them already offered for 2,300 bucks on Scalpers.
• 40:55
[laughs] Wow. I'm like, man, you could get a good fat bike for 2,300 bucks. Well, we'll see, uh- I know. I-... lawn seating. Eventually- Can I, can I get my free lawn seat?... yeah, 94 bucks. 94 for lawn?
• 41:04
Oh, those bastards. Eventually, when we go to the old folks homes, there's gonna be some really good Stones cover bands. Yeah. That's, it'd be the same thing, like 70-year-olds playing rock 'n' roll.
• 41:12
Well, they've been playing Stones covers for 40 years. They almost might as well just be The Stones, right? And you can see them for, like, free at your old folks home. There you go. Yep, that's what I'm waiting for.
• 41:21
I don't think I want to go see The Stones [laughs] here unless somebody wants to benefact me a couple of tickets to this mofo. Well, I'm gonna s- Well, can we, can we insult on this damn show?
• 41:30
[laughs] I think I'm gonna come... Wait, what is that? It starts on a Wednesday? What'd I do now? [laughs] Well, I might have to go for- It's not on The Rolling Stones...
• 41:35
might have to go for a bike ride- Lot of people didn't know that... around, uh, I don't know, about 8:00 on Wednesday night that, that week- Oh, yeah, you could... and just kinda hang out by the, uh, White, lighthouse.
• 41:42
Without having to actually see them. Prancing around like ballerinas. Yeah, you know, if they had a fat bike on stage though- Prancing and partying...
• 41:50
trying to bring it back to the fat bike theme of the show, ladies and gentlemen. Yeah. [laughs] I think Keith could do a wicked wheelie on a fat bike. Maybe. Maybe.
• 41:58
[laughs] Maybe he should try and do a Keith Richards imitation of our new contest. Our new contest is going to be the radio promo contest, and we have some kick-ass prizes. First place- What's a radio promo?
• 42:13
A radio promo is just a short... Well, we have them do them on, we broadcast them on every show. Yeah. It's just a short message- Hi, my name's Ned Overend and I listen to Sven and Gomez at Fat Bike Radio...
• 42:24
or- This has been a very poor celebrity impersonation. [laughs] Right, exactly. So all you have to do is call our studio line when we're not on the air, or even when we're on the air- Maybe...
• 42:36
and record what your radio promo would be. It better include Sven Gomez and fatbike.com or we'll cut you off so bad. It's kinda like the Weekly Dose of Fat with Sven Gomez or Fat Bike Radio.
• 42:49
Yeah, we could do a weekly dose. Those, those are kind of our two trademarked-type things So when we put the, when we put the story up, is it up yet? See how much I pay attention to what's on our website?
• 42:57
[laughs] Uh, when you put it up, we could just have a couple of example- Oh, exactly... things. Yeah. So you'll, you'll get the idea. Hi, my name's Kathleen, and I just love Fat Bike Radio.
• 43:09
So we could- Right, we're gonna run it through the- For Ethel, I don't know... end of June, and then, uh, we're gonna give away a framed carbon bike or a framed carbon frame and fork. Yeah. Alaskan carbon frame and fork.
• 43:21
Yeah. I, I just, I took a picture of that thing this week for the contest. That thing is nice. It is pretty nice. I didn't drop it or anything. That's good.
• 43:30
[laughs] Um, and in second place- I can, if anybody wants me to drop it ahead of time though, I c- maybe I could. [laughs] It's supposed to be really tough according to our- It seems real nice. I, it's-...
• 43:40
according to our website. The authority on all things fat bike, fatbike.com USA. [laughs] USA. Well, uh, we have to, I would say- So if you come in second place-... so good over here in USA.
• 43:52
[laughs] What, so there's a second place too. What, what's that all about? Two framed Minnesota folding bead tires. Those are actually a pretty nice tire. And you actually like those tires. Yeah, I did like those tires.
• 44:03
And in third place, a crappy set of steak knives. [laughs] Unless one of our sponsors wants to pony up and give something to third place. Can you still get steak knives at, like, Walmart or Costco that you can just...
• 44:14
Yeah. Yeah. We should do that. We should do that. Okay. Yeah. So the last place after all the prizes that get into this contest- Is this- When there's no more prizes left- Is a set of steak knives...
• 44:25
it could be seventh or eighth place, you never know, but it's gonna get a set of steak knives. [laughs] With real human bone handles. Yeah. Yep. [laughs] That'd be weird. So, so yeah, so they make a radio promo. Yeah.
• 44:39
I think it's a great idea. Well, I have a friend- Who had that idea? I have a friend. [laughs] I believe that was maybe... No, it was in my notes somewhere. I think that might've been me. It might've been you.
• 44:48
[coughs] I have a friend, Ryan Tenges, like, known Fest cousin. He does- [coughs]... a perfect Marvin the Martian- Do you need a cough freaking button over there, mister? I'm coughing the whole time. [laughs] I know.
• 45:02
I know, and then you cough one time. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. You get called out onto the plank right quick there, mister. [laughs] So anyway- I'm very serious, buddy... my buddy Ryan Tenges does this Marvin the Martian.
• 45:13
Oh, I've been, I've, in my head, he calls, he does that, and he wins a prize, dude, 'cause it would be so kickass. Oh, for the promo- Uh, uh... in the Martian, Mar- Marty, Mar- what was his name?
• 45:24
Mar- Marvin the Martian... Marvin the Martian. Yeah. Uh, our buddy out there, uh, Ogden way, Mr. Mark Peterson, he had a, a, a- Oh, yeah... like a- He had a Marvin the Martian, uh-...
• 45:33
Marvin the Martian moon lander, I believe it was... moon lander. Yep. He's on his second moon lander. He's a fat bike freak. Hey, Mark. Thanks for being our buddy here at fatbike.com.
• 45:45
Hey, we got a shout-out to Mark there in Ogden, Utah. Yeah, Mark. You know, some of our stories come from Ogden, Utah, in the links this week.
• 45:52
I think that, uh, the guys at the Fat Bike Brigade out there went on some backpacking adventure. Oh, it looked pretty cool. Yep. 24-hour o- overnight deal.
• 46:03
Right, up into what they call the Black Dragon Wash, which I must admit I'm not exactly familiar with that particular spot, but I know the front range pretty well, and that's a nice area to ride up into.
• 46:16
It looked badass, dude. The Wasatch Front, I think they like to call it. Indeed. Yeah. What else we got in these linky thinkies here? Um. Yeah. Mm.
• 46:27
There's, there's- My little rant about bloggers that are still pondering, "Hey, are fat bikes a fad?" Well, they've been around for 10 years. Maybe.
• 46:37
And they'll, you think they'll be ar- you think, look 10 years in your future. See fat bikes? I do. Yeah. It's not a fad. Well, Rob up, Rob up at ERIK'S was, uh, very emphatic that it's not a fad. And,
• 46:48
you know, it's just the evolution of the mountain bike. Yep. Mm-hmm. Speaking of mountain bikes- Yeah... we're, uh, we're moseying out in a week and a half to some kinda animal sea thing. Oh, I've never seen a sea otter.
• 47:04
I'd like to go play with a sea otter. Oh, sometimes there's just tons of them sitting right up on the beach- That's cool... making a bunch of racket, nipping at your heels, trying to eat your popcorn.
• 47:14
We're gonna go see, uh- We'll have a couple, we'll have a day-... Dave Turner... we'll have a day to sightsee-ish. 'Cause sh- if you're basically- Well, just even, even the course, the, you know-... 10 minutes a day...
• 47:23
where everything is happening is gonna be pretty beautiful. So, and we're gonna have warm weather. It's gonna be a true spring break- And I-... Stan and Gomez go to Cali. Yeah, we're going to Cali.
• 47:33
And I've already, I mean, we have a little bit of premonition about what we might see out there, and- Yeah... I'll tell you what, there's gonna be stuff to report, I guarantee.
• 47:44
And we're gonna be doing some videos and, uh, you know- Yeah, we got some big ideas about- Yeah, big ideas... what we'd like to do. So, and we already have some things set up with Turner and Foes and Rocky Mountain.
• 47:56
Not that those guys are introducing anything new, per se- [laughs] That we know about. Uh, there's gonna be lots of new stuff there- Oh, yeah... though, that it's gonna be just- Absolutely... too cool...
• 48:05
there's a lot move, there's a lot of movement in the market right now. Yeah. I dig it. So it's worth traveling out there just, well, besides it's a cool place, but,
• 48:15
uh, I was s- [laughs] I'm still not 100% sure this is a real story, but King Creek makes pogo sticks. Oh, yeah? Well, apparently they, at- at least from, uh, the story, uh, they
• 48:30
paired up with a company that already makes pogo sticks to do valving on the shock or something like that. Mm-hmm. So it's feasible.
• 48:36
I just didn't get any, you know, con- confirmation that it's an, a real story and not just an April Fools ruse. Oh, it's an April Fools story, dude. Do you think? You guys- I mean, if it isn't, I, I can buy it.
• 48:49
[laughs] But if it is, I can buy it. It, it sure sounds like an April Fools story, dude. Have you ever seen those, but pogo sticks that are, like, wicked bouncy? You know, we're of contemporary age.
• 49:01
We had more than one pogo stick. It, it- Not that one, the new ones where they can go like 20 feet in the air. [laughs] They got this massive air.
• 49:08
Anyway, so, uh, could be a, could be an April Fools' joke or they could actually be working on pogo stick shocks. I don't know. [laughs] I think Spud got duped.
• 49:17
We'll, we'll, we'll v- I [laughs] We, we'll revisit that next week I, yeah, I did catch a couple that I was like, "Well, that's plausible." And then I'm like, "Nah, come on now. No way."
• 49:28
But, uh, I'm gullible as all hell too, so. You know what sled I really like is Semi Rad, just because that name is just so badass. Just like Semi Rad. You know, you know how bad that is? It's Semi Rad.
• 49:40
Well, they brought out this PBJ thing and, um, I'm, I'm one... That's now my thing is- The hell's a PBJ? It's a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. You gotta Google- Are you sure this isn't an April Fools' joke?
• 49:51
[laughs] Yeah, you, you have to Google the recipe. And I found the recipe for toast. It's actually- Try PBJ on toast. Oh.
• 50:02
[laughs] Combines those two, it'd be like- I, actually, I'm a Katherine Clark's wheat bread fan for my peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Yeah. But it's been getting smaller over the years.
• 50:10
Well, what they're saying is pack a P- PBJ and go ride your bike for the bulk of the day, right? And that's a good idea. Sure. I've been trying to take my bike out
• 50:19
and do the thing, Mark Cyrex thing from the River Bottoms, that story he did for us, and go shop, go to the grocery store, buy some groceries, go out to the woods, cook it- Eat the groceries [laughs]...
• 50:31
eat the groceries, ride around. Go to Gillies and have a custard for dessert. [laughs] Come back home and let the dogs out. Yeah.
• 50:41
Well, you know, I mean, that's the thing about all those treats is you earn them if you're gonna do a decent ride. Mm-hmm. I mean, every one of these beers is a mile. [laughs] Right.
• 50:50
And every square of the chocolate is- Well-... five miles... well, I need another one of those, actually. Let me try the milk chocolate version of this. Give the, oh, do we have the, did you have the dark?
• 51:03
Give the dark chocolates. Oh, oh, I, I, I couldn't, I couldn't, I couldn't possibly. [laughs] I couldn't possibly. [laughs] Hands up. Oh, no, no, no, no. I'm totally a milk chocolate dude.
• 51:13
Unless you put chilies or something in there, then then I do- There's chilies and cherries in their beer. I just dropped them in there. You didn't see it. [laughs] Mm-hmm. Yep, that's still good even, uh, what?
• 51:23
30 minutes later. Not bad. Yeah, the beer through the molten chocolate on your tongue. Dude, this is what Jesus drank.
