- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 179 — can you believe it? We've come a long way. Lucas: We really have. Today we're going to the pharmacy. Imagine you're not feeling well and you need to buy medicine. Luna: Oh, that's a useful one. I hope I don't get sick, but good to know. Lucas: Exactly. So first, let's learn how to say 'I have a fever.' That's Saya demam. Say it with me: Saya demam. Luna: Saya demam. Saya demam. Okay, got it. Lucas: Great. And if you have a cough, you say Saya batuk. Saya batuk. Luna: Saya batuk. That one's easy — batuk sounds like the cough sound. Lucas: It does! Now, if you have a headache, you say Saya sakit kepala. Sakit means pain, kepala means head. Luna: Saya sakit kepala. Sakit kepala. So sakit is pain? Like in 'sakit perut' — stomach ache? Lucas: Exactly right. You remembered from our clinic episode. So Saya sakit kepala. Luna: Saya sakit kepala. Good. So what do I say when I want to ask if they have medicine? Lucas: You ask Ada ubat? Ada means 'there is', ubat means 'medicine'. So Ada ubat? Luna: Ada ubat? Simple. Ada ubat? Lucas: Perfect. And if you want to say 'This medicine is for fever,' you say Ubat ini untuk demam. Ubat ini — this medicine, untuk — for, demam — fever. Luna: Ubat ini untuk demam. So I can point at a box and say that. Lucas: Exactly. Let's do a quick scene. I'm the pharmacist, you're the customer. Walk in and tell me what's wrong. Luna: Okay. Saya demam dan sakit kepala. Lucas: Ada ubat? I ask. Luna: Ada ubat untuk demam? Lucas: Ya, ubat ini untuk demam. And you say...? Luna: Terima kasih! Oh wait, we learned that before. Lucas: You did. See, you're already putting phrases together. Luna: This is really helpful. I can imagine being at a pharmacy in Malaysia and actually communicating. Lucas: Alright, back to practicing. Let's do the whole thing again. Saya demam. Luna: Saya demam. Lucas: Saya batuk. Luna: Saya batuk. Lucas: Saya sakit kepala. Luna: Saya sakit kepala. Lucas: Ada ubat? Luna: Ada ubat? Lucas: Ubat ini untuk demam. Luna: Ubat ini untuk demam. Lucas, can we try one more scenario? What if I have a cough? Lucas: Sure. You say Saya batuk. Then ask Ada ubat batuk? Luna: Ada ubat batuk? That makes sense — medicine for cough. Lucas: Right. And the pharmacist might say Ya, ubat ini untuk batuk. Luna: Okay, let me try: Saya batuk. Ada ubat batuk? Lucas: Perfect. And if they show you, you say Ubat ini untuk batuk. Luna: Ubat ini untuk batuk. Got it. Lucas: You're doing great. Let's wrap up with a quick review. Repeat after me: Saya demam. Luna: Saya demam. Lucas: Saya batuk. Luna: Saya batuk. Lucas: Saya sakit kepala. Luna: Saya sakit kepala. Lucas: Ada ubat? Luna: Ada ubat? Lucas: Ubat ini untuk demam. Luna: Ubat ini untuk demam. Lucas: Excellent. Practice these and you'll be ready for any pharmacy visit. Luna: Thanks Lucas. And thanks to all our listeners. Keep practicing, and we'll see you next time. Lucas: This is Learn Malay with Fexingo. Selamat tinggal! Luna: Selamat tinggal!
