- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Hey Lucas, I've been practicing my market phrases, but I want to describe things more. Lucas: Great idea. Today we're learning two very useful adjectives: besar and kecil. Luna: Besar and kecil. Let me guess — besar means big? Lucas: Exactly. Besar means big or large. And kecil means small or little. Luna: So if I see a big house, I can say rumah itu besar. Lucas: Perfect. Rumah itu besar — that house is big. Let's try it slowly. Rumah... itu... besar. Luna: Rumah itu besar. Lucas: Yes. And if you see a small cat, you can say kucing itu kecil. Luna: Kucing itu kecil. That cat is small. Lucas: You've got it. Let's do a quick practice. I'll say an object, and you use besar or kecil. Ready? Luna: Ready. Lucas: Gajah — elephant. Luna: Gajah itu besar. Lucas: Tikus — mouse. Luna: Tikus itu kecil. Lucas: Yes! Now, you know we've been teaching you these useful phrases for free every day. Luna: Yeah, it's a small way to keep the lessons coming. Every bit helps. Now, back to our adjectives. Lucas: Right. So imagine you're at the market. You see a big papaya and a small papaya. How would you say 'this papaya is big'? Luna: Betik ini besar. Lucas: And 'that papaya is small'? Luna: Betik itu kecil. Lucas: Terrific. Now let's put them in a sentence together. 'Big house, small cat.' In Malay. Luna: Rumah besar, kucing kecil. Lucas: Yes. But we can add itu for clarity. Rumah itu besar, kucing itu kecil. Luna: Rumah itu besar, kucing itu kecil. Lucas: Excellent. One more: 'The big cat is small.' That's a bit tricky. Luna: Kucing besar itu kecil? Lucas: Exactly. Kucing besar itu kecil. The big cat is small. It works. Luna: I love that. So the adjective goes right after the noun. Lucas: Yes, in Malay, adjectives follow nouns. So 'big house' is rumah besar, not besar rumah. Luna: Got it. So let's review. Besar means big, kecil means small. And the noun comes first. Lucas: You're doing brilliantly. Let's do a final round. I'll say an English phrase, you say it in Malay. 'A big dog.' Luna: Anjing besar. Lucas: 'A small fish.' Luna: Ikan kecil. Lucas: 'That dog is big.' Luna: Anjing itu besar. Lucas: 'This fish is small.' Luna: Ikan ini kecil. Lucas: Perfect. You've nailed it. Now you can describe sizes in Malay. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. I feel more confident already. Lucas: That's what we're here for. Keep practicing, and we'll see you next time on Learn Malay with Fexingo.
