- 0:01Second Timothy chapter one. Let us pray.
- 0:09God, Lord, King, righteous and holy and true, powerful, all
- 0:23knowing, all-encompassing, encapsulating everything seen
- 0:28and unseen. You are the only uncreated God.
- 0:33We rest and we bask in the finished work of the cross, in
- 0:39the presence and knowing, Lord, that you're fighting our
- 0:43battles, knowing that you have everything in full control and
- 0:47that everything is going exactly according to plan.
- 0:51God, we rest in that promise. We rest in that reality.
- 0:55We know that your arm is not too short to save and that God, you
- 0:59can save to the utmost. And so, Lord God, we get out of
- 1:03our own understanding, out of our own morality.
- 1:06God, we refuse to put you in a box.
- 1:10Lord, we know that you can break out and you could do anything.
- 1:15So Lord God, we get out of our own understanding and our own
- 1:20ways and Lord, we give you center stage, we give you the
- 1:24fullness of our lives. God, every fiber of our being,
- 1:28every breath in our lungs. God, I pray in the name of Jesus
- 1:33that will be sold out, laid down, lovers of the way, Yeshua
- 1:37ha Messiah, Lord God Almighty, we love you with all of our
- 1:40heart, with all of our mind, with all of our strength.
- 1:43And Lord, help us to love our neighbors as our self.
- 1:47Help us to pray for our enemies, God, we pray for the peace of
- 1:50Jerusalem. God, bring the Jews in.
- 1:53Lord, bring them into the fold. Help us not to be those that
- 1:58turn our backs on them in this time, for such a time as this.
- 2:02God, let us be found on the right side of history.
- 2:05When the smoke clears, God's standing firm with the Jews,
- 2:09knowing that you have a plan for them.
- 2:12The literal geographical place there on planet earth.
- 2:17Father, we pray for Jerusalem. We pray for Israel.
- 2:22Lord, we ask that you'll fight their battles for them.
- 2:26Lord, preserve them till the end and help them to come in to the
- 2:33saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, their long-awaited
- 2:39Messiah. Lord, I pray that they'll turn
- 2:43to him in droves. Lord, I pray that the prophetic
- 2:47timeline comes to fruition. Lord, I pray in the name of
- 2:53Jesus that all of the prophecies that are contained in the good
- 2:58book that we hold in our hands will happen exactly the way that
- 3:04you have penned them. So, Lord God, I pray that we,
- 3:10your people who are called by Your name, will do the things
- 3:15today that you have called us into the will for you, Lord,
- 3:20your thoughts and your plans acted out through us, the human
- 3:25agents, God, that you have called into the fold with you.
- 3:30We hear your voice. Help us to respond.
- 3:33Help us not to be timid. Help us not to grow callous.
- 3:37Help us not to be deceived. Lord, I pray in the name of
- 3:41Jesus that we will do the things that you have called us to, and
- 3:47that we will not have fear of man, we will not fear the one
- 3:51that can kill the body, but Lord God, we will fear you only.
- 3:57Lord, you are awesome and mighty indeed and in action.
- 4:03Father, you are the Supreme God, El Elyon, the Most High God.
- 4:11Every other God is an idol. They cannot see, they cannot
- 4:15hear. There is only one true living
- 4:18God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of Israel,
- 4:23and that is whom we serve today. Holy Spirit, come fill.
- 4:30Holy Spirit, fill us up. Holy Spirit, break out.
- 4:35Holy Spirit, bring freedom and power and a sound mind.
- 4:39Holy Spirit, I pray that you'll guide us and direct us and teach
- 4:43us, discipline us and give us discernment today as we read
- 4:48your Holy Scriptures, as we read the Holy Word.
- 4:51I pray in the name of Jesus that you, Holy Spirit, will show us
- 4:56all of the plans in the paths of Yahweh.
- 5:03We thank you, Father, for being good.
- 5:07We thank you that you are good, and we thank you that your plans
- 5:13are righteous and holy and true and that we can bank on them and
- 5:18build our lives upon this word, the chief cornerstone.
- 5:23You're the Alpha and the Omega. You're the beginning and the
- 5:26end. And Lord, we desire to be where
- 5:30you are. We want to be there with you.
- 5:34And so, Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ, God Almighty 3 and 1, I
- 5:39pray that you will come and have your way with us.
- 5:44Come and teach us and guide us and help us to know that you are
- 5:49right here in this room and that you are for us.
- 5:53And so make these words come alive and active.
- 5:57Make them quicken within the inner man.
- 6:00Help them to hide inside of our hearts and minds and help them
- 6:04to come up and out whenever we need them at the proper time.
- 6:10Help our words to be seasoned. Help them to fall on fertile
- 6:14ground as we break up the fallow ground.
- 6:17Use us in mighty ways. Father, thank you for these
- 6:21eternal words. Thank you, Father, for rescuing
- 6:26us. Thank you, Father, for taking
- 6:29the blindfold off and unstopping our ears and causing us to be
- 6:34renewed and regenerated, a new creation in Christ Jesus.
- 6:39Thank you, Father. We pray that they'll be
- 6:43representatives from all people groups, all languages, all
- 6:47tongues, all continents. Father, I pray in the name of
- 6:50Jesus that they'll come into the fold today.
- 6:52Let today be the day of salvation for many, and it's in
- 6:56the mighty name of Jesus Christ, I pray, Amen.
- 7:02Let's start in verse one. Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ
- 7:09by the will of God according to the promise of life which is in
- 7:16Christ Jesus. So we can capture a little
- 7:20glimpse here that the apostle Paul knew that his head was on
- 7:24the chopping block. We can get the feeling that Paul
- 7:31knows that his time is short before he would be executed.
- 7:37And this second epistle, written to his son in the faith,
- 7:42Timothy, is seasoned throughout with this sentiment.
- 7:50And if you are reading it and you have that in mind, you can
- 7:54see how many times Paul alludes to the life to come and that
- 7:59everything that he has done up into this point was coming to
- 8:04this conjecture. And Paul has already told us to
- 8:09live his Christ and to die his gain.
- 8:12He counted the cost. He knew what he was up against,
- 8:15and he found Jesus Christ to be worthy.
- 8:19And I pray that is your story today.
- 8:21I pray that you're not trying to ride the fence.
- 8:24I pray that you're not trying to have this life and the life to
- 8:27come. I pray that you've already given
- 8:30up your life and not trying to hold on to it.
- 8:34And if God gives you another day, it is for His purposes and
- 8:37His plans. And that is what you need to
- 8:40understand that He is worthy of us laying down all of our own
- 8:44wants and desires and passions, all of our purposes, and taking
- 8:49up the cross and following Him daily, dying to self daily.
- 8:54Friends, that is the call that Jesus Christ has placed on us.
- 8:58It is not just this cultural Christianity that is lukewarm
- 9:03that Jesus Christ vomits out of his mouth.
- 9:07Friends, we are called to be sold out, laid down, lovers of
- 9:11Him. We are not called to try to play
- 9:14both sides, friends. We are called to take up our
- 9:19cross, to die to self friends, and to go out into the harvest
- 9:25regardless of the outcome. And that is a hard lesson for
- 9:29most people who have grown up in cultural Christianity where it
- 9:34looked like blessings and materialism and it looked like
- 9:42lots of greedy gain. And that is not the way of God.
- 9:47There are only a few that are called in to the spiritual gift
- 9:51of giving. Most everyone else is called
- 9:55into a life of being completely reliant upon God Almighty for
- 10:02their very next breath, for their very next meal.
- 10:06Friends. And he said with man this is
- 10:09impossible, but with God it is anything is possible.
- 10:13Friends, verse 2 to Timothy, my dearly beloved son, grace,
- 10:18mercy, peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
- 10:23So here Paul's going to remind himself of the family that God
- 10:28has given him. He's not out there on on his
- 10:31own. This Koinonia, this one another
- 10:33ring one another, this fellowship.
- 10:36And Paul here as he's locked up in prison ready to be executed,
- 10:40he was bringing back into remembrance all of the people
- 10:44that God had brought into his life.
- 10:46They were very near and dear to him and like family.
- 10:49And he's telling us about Timothy, who he thought of as a
- 10:52son, and he's giving Timothy his blessings of grace, mercy, and
- 11:01peace from God. We do not deserve salvation.
- 11:06We did not earn it, friends. It was a free gift of this grace
- 11:12through faith. And you can see this mercy.
- 11:15God was so merciful to us we were headed on the fast track to
- 11:22being eternally separated from God Almighty.
- 11:25But through His mercy He showed up even when we were hostile
- 11:30towards Him. And peace.
- 11:32There is no peace outside of a relationship with God through
- 11:37His Son Jesus Christ. And you can see God the Father
- 11:42and Christ Jesus our Lord synonymous. 3 in one, friends
- 11:49three. I thank God whom I serve from my
- 11:54forefathers with pure conscience without ceasing.
- 11:58I have remembrance of you in my prayers day and night.
- 12:03So this is what you need to understand is that Paul did not
- 12:07stop praying for Timothy every time that he would bring Timothy
- 12:13to his mind, every time God would bring Timothy to his mind,
- 12:17Paul would pray for him. And that is our call.
- 12:20That is what we are called to do is to rejoice always, to pray
- 12:24without ceasing, to always have gratitude and thankfulness for
- 12:29the things that we do have, to not be discontent, friends.
- 12:34And God is well pleased with the life that mimics that model of
- 12:39praying without ceasing, rejoicing always.
- 12:42We must take joy. We cannot just let the things
- 12:46that happened to us be our guide.
- 12:50We cannot just be tossed to and fro by every wind and every
- 12:54wave. Friends, we choose joy in the
- 12:57midst of trials and persecution for greatly desiring to see you,
- 13:04being mindful of your tears, that I may be filled with joy.
- 13:08It seems as if whenever Paul and Timothy had to depart ways when
- 13:12Paul was going on into Macedonia and Timothy was charged to stay
- 13:17in Ephesus, it caused Timothy to burst out into tears.
- 13:21And here Paul is remembering that encounter of that departure
- 13:26whenever he left to go to Macedonia, and he is thankful
- 13:31for his son in faith, Timothy. And it fills Paul with joy
- 13:37knowing that Timothy was like a son to him. 5 When I call to
- 13:45remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in you, which dwelled
- 13:50first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I'm
- 13:53persuaded that is in you also. So Paul knew that Timothy came
- 13:59from good stock. His grandmother taught him the
- 14:04ways of the Jews, His mother taught him in the ways of the
- 14:10Jews. And here he knows that Timothy
- 14:15himself knew all of the background because of the
- 14:21faithfulness of his grandmother and his mother.
- 14:24And it all culminates in Jesus Christ.
- 14:27And that is where so many Jews go wrong is because they don't
- 14:32see the Old Testament as pointing towards the already
- 14:38manifested Christ who came through the Immaculate
- 14:42Conception of Mary, a virgin birth and lived a perfect
- 14:48sinless life and died on a criminal's cross, but three days
- 14:54later resurrected from the dead and appeared to many and
- 14:58ascended to the right hand of God.
- 15:01And that is where so many Jews get it wrong because they're
- 15:03still waiting upon their Messiah when he's already come and they
- 15:08don't want to admit that they murdered their Messiah.
- 15:11And here you can see that Timothy was brought up in the
- 15:16way of the Jews that pointed him towards Christ, which is well
- 15:24pleasing to God when you have these Messianic Jews who
- 15:28understand all the background of the Torah, all the background of
- 15:34the Pentateuch, all the background of the major and
- 15:38minor prophets in the history of of the Kingdom of the Jews.
- 15:43And you can see here that Timothy had a wonderful
- 15:47upbringing. And it's a word to so many
- 15:50families is to train up a child in the way they should go.
- 15:54And when they are older, they will not depart from it.
- 15:57And we cannot disengage friends. We need for parents to actually
- 16:03parents and not to allow technology to raise their
- 16:06children, not to farm out their responsibilities to these
- 16:11institutions who care nothing for your children.
- 16:14We are called to disciple our children, friends, and that is
- 16:17the great calling upon a parent's life.
- 16:21And we cannot disengage and we cannot check out.
- 16:25We must keep our hand on the pulse, friends. 6 Wherefore I
- 16:33put you in remembrance, that you stir up the gift of God, which
- 16:37is in you, by the putting on of my hands.
- 16:40So Paul laid hands on Timothy right before he left, and he
- 16:43blessed him and he charged him to make sure that he was a
- 16:48student of the Word of God, and that the giftings that God has
- 16:52placed on him he actually cultivated and he worked on.
- 16:55He didn't take them for granted. And the Bible is clear that
- 16:59those that have more will be given to them, but those that
- 17:03have not, even what they do have will be taken from them.
- 17:07We can't go out and spiritual pride thinking that all the
- 17:10things that we have learned, we just have and that they'll
- 17:13always be there without cultivating A meaningful loving
- 17:16relationship with God Almighty through His Son Jesus Christ.
- 17:21That's the key to even more being unlocked to you.
- 17:24But if you think that you've learned it all and you need not
- 17:27learn anymore, and that everything that you have is
- 17:30sufficient, then what you will find as you go on, as you go out
- 17:34in your own strength, friends, the little bit that you thought
- 17:38that you have, it will lead to perpetual frustration because
- 17:42God has taken away the limited amount of knowledge that you had
- 17:47in Him. There are so many people with
- 17:49plaques and degrees on walls that are as ignorant as the
- 17:54unlearned man friends, and that is what you need to understand.
- 17:59And there are so many people who study the word of God, who
- 18:04believe every single syllable, and they know more about what's
- 18:09going on in the world than the most celebrated scholastic
- 18:15academic professor. And that is the way of God is
- 18:21that he shames the wise by using the foolish things. 7 For God
- 18:30has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a
- 18:35sound mind. So God did not give you a spirit
- 18:39of fear and timidity. Friends, He does not call us to
- 18:43be cowards, He does not call us to be timid.
- 18:46He calls us to be bold in the face of persecution.
- 18:51He calls us to speak truth in love when it's unpopular,
- 18:55friends. We can love people into hell,
- 18:59friends. And that is where so many people
- 19:02are. They're choosing their
- 19:04relationships with their family members over what the word of
- 19:09God says, and they're erring grievously today.
- 19:13And that is what you need to understand.
- 19:15And he says, unless you hate them in relation to how much you
- 19:19love Jesus Christ, then you cannot be his disciple.
- 19:25You cannot inherit the Kingdom of God if you do not rightly
- 19:30place all of your relationships with your family in the proper
- 19:38place in relation to Jesus Christ.
- 19:41Jesus is far above and Jesus's words are far above anything
- 19:45that is culturally popular. Friends, or what our government
- 19:52says or what anybody says that is apart from the Word of God,
- 19:56that is, if anything goes against God's Word, we must shun
- 20:00it. And we cannot fear imprisonment.
- 20:04We cannot fear being. Ostracized.
- 20:07We cannot fear our lives being taken from us, our livelihoods
- 20:11being taken from us. We must side with God 10 times
- 20:14out of 10. Who do we obey, God or man?
- 20:18And of course, we always obey God in God's Word, and we'll go
- 20:22along with the leaders as far as they will go along with Christ.
- 20:33And that is the mandate that is placed on our lives.
- 20:38He gives us a spirit of power. He gives us a spirit of love.
- 20:43He gives us a sound mind. Friends, that is what you need
- 20:48to know, the speaking truth in love, not shrinking back, not
- 20:53being silent. There's a sin of omission when
- 20:57we know what is right and we choose not to do it whenever we
- 21:01stay silent, whenever we need to speak up.
- 21:04Friends, that is sinful. A be not you, therefore ashamed
- 21:12of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but be
- 21:17you partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the
- 21:22power of God. What a mandate that is placed
- 21:25upon our lives. Friends, we don't need to
- 21:28apologize for the Bible. We don't need to apologize for
- 21:32the words of God Almighty who created everything.
- 21:36All we need to do is get in line with what His Word says.
- 21:40We need to believe every single syllable and not call any of it
- 21:44into question, even if it costs us everything.
- 21:48If it costs us our very lives, if it costs us our livelihoods,
- 21:55if it costs us their relationships, if it costs us
- 21:58our job, if it costs us everything, we side with God.
- 22:03And then we rejoice. Because they persecuted the
- 22:10prophets of old and they hated Jesus 1st.
- 22:14And it's no wonder that they persecute and hate us as we side
- 22:19with God's Word and his unpopular friends.
- 22:23We do not worry about that. We obey God and God alone.
- 22:29We're not trying to play both sides.
- 22:31It is God and God alone who we serve.
- 22:34And we work out our salvation with fear and trembling.
- 22:41Nine, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling,
- 22:47not according to works, but according to His own purpose and
- 22:53grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world
- 22:58began. We were chosen and predestined
- 23:01before the foundations of the earth.
- 23:04He knew us before we were ever even formed in our mother's
- 23:08womb. He knit us together.
- 23:10He knows who belongs to Him. He is relentlessly pursuing
- 23:15those who will inherit eternal life.
- 23:19He has good works for us to do that He planned before we were
- 23:23ever even born. Friends, what an amazing
- 23:27thought. And it is not because of
- 23:30anything that we did. It is everything that He did for
- 23:35us on the cross. That is where our holiness and
- 23:39righteousness and purity and innocence comes from.
- 23:43It comes from the righteousness of Jesus Christ.
- 23:47And He imputes to us His perfection and His Holiness, and
- 23:53He takes upon all of the sins of the world.
- 23:57Friends, 10 now is, but is now made manifest by the appearing
- 24:06of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and has
- 24:11brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.
- 24:18That is what you need to understand is that all
- 24:20throughout the Old Testament, the afterlife was somewhat
- 24:24cloudy. And then whenever Jesus Christ
- 24:28arrived on the scene and he resurrected on the third day and
- 24:32he snatched the keys to death and hell and Hades, Friends, you
- 24:36need to understand that it became crystal clear of what is
- 24:40to come. And that is what Paul is
- 24:44referencing here and he knows it right before he is to go to be
- 24:50martyred for the faith of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 24:54Paul here is bringing into remembrance what is to come and
- 24:58he's counted the cost and he's found that Jesus Christ is
- 25:02worthy and Jesus Christ is able to save to the utmost.
- 25:06And just as the same as the power that raised Jesus Christ
- 25:12from the dead will raise us up, and we will have immortal
- 25:16bodies, unperishable bodies, friends, and we will go to reign
- 25:23with him for 1000 years. 11 whereunto I am appointed A
- 25:32preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.
- 25:36So Paul understood his calling and he walked it out faithfully,
- 25:41and he did not worry about what others thought about him.
- 25:45He had already counted the cost, He had already put his hand to
- 25:50the plow, and he knew before he even launched his ministry, he
- 25:57already knew what he must suffer for Jesus Christ's name's sake.
- 26:0412 For the which 'cause I also suffer these things.
- 26:10Nevertheless, I'm not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed
- 26:17and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have
- 26:22committed unto him against that day.
- 26:25So Paul had full confidence in what Jesus Christ could do.
- 26:30He was not going at it blindly. He was persuaded with every
- 26:36fiber and every ounce of his being that Jesus is Lord and
- 26:43that Jesus is able, and that Jesus would raise him up from
- 26:50the dead and he did not need to fear those that could kill the
- 26:55body. But he served God faithfully
- 26:58until the end, and he was not ashamed of his Lord.
- 27:03Jesus Christ, the son of a Carpenter, a Jewish man who died
- 27:09a criminal's death and claimed to be the Son of God.
- 27:14Paul rightfully sold out to this man who was fully man and fully
- 27:23God. 13 Hold fast the form of sound words which you have heard
- 27:30of me in faith and love, which is in Christ Jesus.
- 27:37He's telling Timothy to finish his race well, to not worry, to
- 27:43not be anxious, but to be fully confident in Christ Jesus.
- 27:49We all must get in to the boat, friends, before the destruction
- 27:55comes. A worldwide cataclysmic event
- 28:00that is coming to test all the inhabitants of the earth.
- 28:05But we must get in Christ to be saved. 14 That good thing which
- 28:12was committed unto you keep by the Holy Ghost which dwells in
- 28:17us. It is the Holy Spirit that
- 28:19enables us to finish this race well.
- 28:22We need we rely on the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to
- 28:27speak to us those still small things that He does and gives us
- 28:32power and gives us a sound mind and helps us to know where to be
- 28:36at the right time and what to say.
- 28:38Whenever we are pressed, whenever we are hard pressed,
- 28:43whenever we are persecuted, the Holy Spirit will speak for us,
- 28:47friends, and we do not need to be afraid and we do not need to
- 28:53tremble. We need to be bold in our
- 28:55witness regardless of the outcome. 15 This you know, that
- 29:02all they which are in Asia be turned away from me, of of whom
- 29:07are Phageolus and homogeny. 16 The Lord give mercy unto the
- 29:13House of Amicipherus, for he often refreshed me, and was not
- 29:19ashamed of my chain. So here Paul mentions a couple
- 29:23guys who were heretics and apostate who started preaching
- 29:31that the resurrection had already happened and they were
- 29:34leading many astray. And then Paul backs it up with
- 29:38one guy who was relentless in his pursuit to come and to
- 29:43comfort Paul, this omiciphoris. 17 But when he was in Rome, he
- 29:53sought out, he sought me out very diligently and found me. 18
- 29:59will end here. The Lord grant unto him that he
- 30:02may find mercy of the Lord in that day, and in how many things
- 30:08he ministered unto me at Ephesus, you know very well.
- 30:15So the Lord have mercy on us in that day, that day that is
- 30:19coming to test all the inhabitants of the earth.
- 30:23And whether we go to meet Him in the air or whether we take our
- 30:31last breath and we are ushered into paradise.
- 30:36Either way, we pray to the Lord God Almighty that we will be
- 30:40found worthy to escape all of the things that are coming to
- 30:45test the inhabitants of the earth.
- 30:48And we pray that where He is, we will be forever more.
- 30:52I hope that you've been blessed by this amazing chapter here in
- 30:56God's Word. I know, I sure have.
- 31:06Praying for every single one of you.
- 31:11Stand with Israel, stand with them.
- 31:15They are God's chosen people and He will bring them into the
- 31:21fold. They are the natural.
- 31:23And don't forget that we are just the wild branches.
- 31:27How much easier would it be for the wild branches to be cut off
- 31:32from the natural tree? And how much easier will it be
- 31:35for the natural branches to be grafted back into the natural
- 31:41tree? The ethnic Jews in a literal
- 31:48geographical land. God loves and He is working
- 31:54mightily and it is their jealousy seeing us coming in to
- 32:01the Kingdom of God that will cause them to admit that Jesus
- 32:05Christ is the Messiah. How amazing is this book that we
- 32:10hold in our hands. It is to be read literally and
- 32:14chronologically, friends, and we will do that together as we move
- 32:20through it. Blessings upon you today.
- 32:28I love you, God loves you. We'll see you back here
- 32:35tomorrow. God bless you.
