- Sean Graver: You know it's been years since you left that job, and somehow you can still recall the exact tone of voice your old boss used, word for word, like it happened this morning. Hey, this is Sean, and welcome back to Prayer Before Work. Now you've moved on, technically. New job, probably a much better one. Different people, different environment. Nobody there even knows the name of the person who used to make your life hard. And yet every so often Usually at the most random moment, maybe while you're driving or showering, lying awake at night, the whole thing replays itself in your mind and you notice you're still angry at someone who has no idea and probably no memory of what he puts you through. And that's a strange kind of pain, isn't it? I mean it's not one where a a fight is still active and and something can be done about it. But it's one where the anger Is just sitting there with nowhere to go. I mean there's no chance to confront the person, no apology coming. I mean, nothing left to actually resolve. But the writer of Hebrews warns about exactly this. And though the picture is a little different using a plant instead of a person, though, in Hebrews twelve fifteen it says, See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God, that no root of bitterness springs up and causes trouble. And by it many become defiled. So we know a root grows underground, out of sight, long before anything shows up above the surface. And that's what old resentment does. It's not sitting on the surface where you can watch it and manage it. It's underneath everything. And it's feeding into how you see new bosses, new new coworkers, new situations that have nothing to do with what actually happened to you. Now left alone. It doesn't just affect you, it ends up shaping decisions and relationships that were never part of the original story. But we often let old wounds like this affect our relationships with others. But there is something you can do. Instead of just feeling bad about it. Now it might mean talking it through with with someone, like a a counselor or a pastor or a trusted friend, instead of just replaying it alone and two AM well you're Trying to sleep. And the most important thing you can do is to bring it to God directly. Tell him that you forgive the wound that you have suffered because Jesus paid the price for your sins and that same sin that was done to you. Jesus paid it all. So let's pray. Well, God, some of what happens to us still lives underneath the surface. Even years later, even when we thought we'd move past it. But help us to stop pretending that it's not there and and Lord, give us the courage to actually deal with it instead of just managing around it. And keep it from growing into something that poisons the good things you've given us since. And where we need real healing, not not just distraction, lead us to that healing. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Now go make today count.
