- 0:00Speaker 1: Now more mark them seven time. Well, Michael Goodwin the
- 0:07Speaker 1: best columnist in America. You can read his column every
- 0:10Speaker 1: Sunday and every Wednesday in the New York Post. If
- 0:12Speaker 1: you go to New York Post website, all of his
- 0:15Speaker 1: columns are up there, and he's with us now, Michael Goodwin,
- 0:18Speaker 1: how you.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Doing, Good morning, Mark, Thank you.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Great column yesterday. The headline is the New York Times
- 0:25Speaker 1: hate filled agenda drags on. And let's point out you
- 0:29Speaker 1: worked at the New York Times when it was the
- 0:32Speaker 1: real New York Times. What the hell happened over there
- 0:34Speaker 1: to that place?
- 0:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I like to say I did my undergraduate work there,
- 0:40Speaker 2: but I got my BA and moved on. But look,
- 0:44Speaker 2: it is this particular story. I mean, the Times has
- 0:48Speaker 2: lost its way for a very long time. But this
- 0:51Speaker 2: particular story I think is borderline dangerous because what it
- 0:57Speaker 2: tries to do is paint Donald Trump as something of
- 1:02Speaker 2: a stooge to Benjamin Netanyahoo. That Netting Yahoo came into
- 1:09Speaker 2: the situation room with his staff, and the President's national
- 1:14Speaker 2: security team was there and they just Times described in
- 1:20Speaker 2: great detail what it calls netting Yahoo's hard sell to
- 1:25Speaker 2: go to war with Israel against Iran. And you know, Mike,
- 1:30Speaker 2: it's the situation. Room is supposedly secret, top secret, and
- 1:35Speaker 2: yet there are lots of quotations in the articles from
- 1:39Speaker 2: the President's cabinet and even the president himself. So somebody
- 1:44Speaker 2: in that room is leaking these secret deliberations. I don't
- 1:49Speaker 2: know who. The Times doesn't say, but it quotes very
- 1:54Speaker 2: has very long quotations which could only have come if
- 1:59Speaker 2: they're act from somebody in the room. I think a
- 2:03Speaker 2: criminal investigation is warranted.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Yeah, but this New York Times, though, you know, for
- 2:08Speaker 1: four years they're writing articles. But he doesn't listen. Trump
- 2:11Speaker 1: won't listen. He doesn't listen. Now the article is all
- 2:14Speaker 1: he does is listen to them.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's right, that's right. And look, it's part
- 2:20Speaker 2: of this larger picture of the antisemitism spreading, blaming Israel
- 2:27Speaker 2: for the war, when, as I point out, what the
- 2:30Speaker 2: story doesn't talk about it at all, is how Trump
- 2:34Speaker 2: has been on a decade long quest to stop around
- 2:38Speaker 2: from getting a nuclear weapon. He has been entirely consistent
- 2:43Speaker 2: about that. From ten years ago until yesterday. He has
- 2:47Speaker 2: always said we cannot let them have a nuclear weapon.
- 2:51Speaker 2: They are the world's single largest exporter of terrorism. So
- 2:56Speaker 2: he's talked about hamas hez Villa, and so none of
- 3:00Speaker 2: those groups make an appearance in this time story, as
- 3:04Speaker 2: though Israel has no real legitimate reason to go to
- 3:09Speaker 2: Iran go to war with Iran, and therefore in the
- 3:12Speaker 2: United States he hasn't even less legitimate reason. And so
- 3:17Speaker 2: President Trump has hoodwinked by data yahoo. I mean, it's
- 3:22Speaker 2: just it's a scandalous idea to start with, but to
- 3:26Speaker 2: paint it as a result of that meeting, and he
- 3:30Speaker 2: just ignores the trail of history.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Yeah, a slight correction. He's been saying for forty years
- 3:37Speaker 1: that if he were president, he would go after Iran.
- 3:39Speaker 1: In fact, the oldest interview where he said it was
- 3:42Speaker 1: forty six years ago, so.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Right right after the Io Tolds came to power in
- 3:48Speaker 2: nineteen seventy nine. But this issue of a nuclear weapons
- 3:55Speaker 2: goes to the top of the list, beyond anything else
- 3:59Speaker 2: Iran has done. If it were to have a nuclear weapon,
- 4:03Speaker 2: it has made it clear it would use it first
- 4:06Speaker 2: on Israel and probably on the United States if it
- 4:10Speaker 2: gets the missile system so it can deliver a nuclear
- 4:14Speaker 2: warhead on the east coasts of the United States. That's
- 4:18Speaker 2: what it says it will do.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Yeah, you know for years politicians actually both sides that
- 4:24Speaker 1: they've had these promises, a handful of promises they make
- 4:27Speaker 1: every campaign. I'll end their dependence on foreign oil. Right,
- 4:31Speaker 1: Trump did it. He wiped out this promise. They can't
- 4:34Speaker 1: use it anymore. And the other one was I'll take
- 4:37Speaker 1: care of a ran out disarmament. Well, now he took
- 4:39Speaker 1: that one off the table. Is that why they're getting
- 4:41Speaker 1: so mad? They're losing their campaign promises?
- 4:44Speaker 2: Right? And what would they do? I mean they when
- 4:48Speaker 2: you listen to the New York Times and or the
- 4:51Speaker 2: Democrat Party, same thing. They have this food of criticism,
- 4:56Speaker 2: but they never give you an alternative vision. How do
- 5:00Speaker 2: you drive down gasoline prices if you won't drill for oil,
- 5:05Speaker 2: if you won't make the United States energy independent as
- 5:09Speaker 2: Trump has done. What would there answer be on more
- 5:13Speaker 2: electric cards? I guess I mean the green climate stuff
- 5:18Speaker 2: that has driven up the cost of energy everywhere. I mean,
- 5:22Speaker 2: and they talk about influation, they talk about New York
- 5:27Speaker 2: being unaffordable. Whether green climate things are one of the
- 5:32Speaker 2: reasons why New York has become unaffordable any state that
- 5:37Speaker 2: has adopted that sort of stuff has gotten more expensive,
- 5:41Speaker 2: so Democrats don't have a coherent alternative idea.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Yeah, everybody read the Michael Goodwin's Calm from yesterday, very
- 5:50Speaker 1: very good company. But again, what happened in New York
- 5:52Speaker 1: Times in the good old days. The Arthur Gelbs, the
- 5:55Speaker 1: Max whatever.
- 5:56Speaker 2: His name was, Dake Frankel, Arosenthal is the dean of
- 6:00Speaker 2: it allus at the same time, we're very straight line Americans.
- 6:08Speaker 2: They were not partisans. They were Americans first, and that's
- 6:13Speaker 2: what's changed. The New York Times is now run by
- 6:17Speaker 2: progressive Democrats, and they all for the walk in lockstep
- 6:22Speaker 2: with the Democratic Party. If you just look at the
- 6:25Speaker 2: headlines on any given day, they'll talk about experts. Worry,
- 6:31Speaker 2: who are the experts, right, the Ivy League professors or
- 6:36Speaker 2: the experts always? I mean, that's who their readership is
- 6:41Speaker 2: aimed at. And that's the way that they think that
- 6:45Speaker 2: there's one way to look at the world, and it's
- 6:48Speaker 2: our way.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Although I should point out the Times traditionally, historically has
- 6:54Speaker 1: always been anti israel an anti Jewish, going back to
- 6:58Speaker 1: World War Two. Why is that?
- 7:01Speaker 2: I don't I don't know it has Again, I can
- 7:06Speaker 2: only think that I know that there have been battles
- 7:10Speaker 2: within over this, but ultimately they have taken this very
- 7:15Speaker 2: kind of worldly view about, you know, the way to
- 7:21Speaker 2: look at the global map, and it has always been
- 7:24Speaker 2: a kind of Harvard or Ivy League idea of how
- 7:30Speaker 2: the world works, what politics is a really about. They've
- 7:34Speaker 2: always looked looked down their nose at politics. They find
- 7:38Speaker 2: that a grimy, dirty profession, and so they don't really
- 7:43Speaker 2: have respect for ideas that don't match their own.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Yeah, well it was. Did you hear President Trump the
- 7:51Speaker 1: other day go after the New York Times? How it
- 7:53Speaker 1: used to be the paper record? It used to be
- 7:55Speaker 1: the Yeah it was.
- 7:57Speaker 2: It was. I mean, as I say, I got my
- 8:00Speaker 2: straining there and it was great. And I still look
- 8:03Speaker 2: back on that New York Times as the real New
- 8:07Speaker 2: York Times.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Well it's a great column. You can read Michael Goodwin's column.
- 8:11Speaker 1: It's at the New York Post website. All of his
- 8:13Speaker 1: columns are up there, and this column is every Sunday
- 8:16Speaker 1: and every Wednesday in the New York Post. Michael Goodwin
- 8:19Speaker 1: great as always, thanks for being with us.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Thank you, Mark my probably take care.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Hey, it's gonna be a nice, warm day, you know,
- 8:27Speaker 1: this whole week's gonna be warm. It's gonna hit over
- 8:30Speaker 1: eighty five, maybe even ninety middle of the week, but
- 8:33Speaker 1: it's gonna be a great day. So coming up at noon,

- 8:47Speaker 1: at six, and have you heard Jimmy Fail If you haven't,
