- 0:28Hello, welcome back to the Easy Double Podcast episode 33.
- 0:32It's Sunday afternoon in Perth, it's Sunday morning in Ireland.
- 0:36We've dragged Owen out of bed early, pretty long run to get
- 0:39him on board. So how you doing Owen?
- 0:43Yeah, a few time changes, but no, we got there in the end.
- 0:48We make it work. So no, it's good to be chatting
- 0:51to you guys. Yeah, your your Sunday afternoon
- 0:54overtime is through the cat amongst the pigeons a little
- 0:57this week, hasn't it? Yeah, I have to do a bit of work
- 1:00later on today. It's a once in a blue moon sort
- 1:02of thing. But no, no, we make it work here
- 1:06at the Easy Double. And then the standard Sunday
- 1:10afternoon evening F1 race always being in the mix also.
- 1:14We try and work around that when we can, don't we?
- 1:17Yeah, yeah, absolutely. United got out of the way and
- 1:20yesterday with a massive win against European title
- 1:25contender, European contenders Sunderland.
- 1:27So yeah, big win, new keeper, a clean sheet, which is great to
- 1:31hear. But I'm yeah, no, I'm happy.
- 1:35I was hopeful we weren't going to go down the football chat
- 1:38this week given the past seven days for Liverpool. 3 losses in
- 1:42a row is it? Yeah, I hope you know it feels
- 1:46now. The the only silver line is if
- 1:49if people listened to last week, then I did foresee the points
- 1:53drop against Crystal Palace coming.
- 1:56Yeah, but that's not something you want to be smug about.
- 2:00But you just have been playing very, very poor and it was going
- 2:02to catch up on years eventually. It's like last year you spent no
- 2:06money and years are really good. This year you spend a shit load
- 2:09of money and years are like poor.
- 2:11It's it's weird way it works. It is long season.
- 2:15We'll see. But yeah, last week I was like
- 2:1805 points clear, like too easy, blah blah, blah, and now we're
- 2:21not even top six point swing in a week.
- 2:24Yeah. Oh yeah.
- 2:25There you go. Dean.
- 2:27How are you doing mate? Good.
- 2:29Good. Yep, Sunday afternoon here.
- 2:31So no, a little bit warmer in Perth, but only just then that
- 2:36all we're talking ahead of the chat.
- 2:39I think it's starting to get pretty cool over there and it's
- 2:42uncharacteristically a little bit cool today, I think, in
- 2:45Perth. Perhaps we'll chat about it more
- 2:48later, but how are you feeling after like kind of like a big
- 2:52four weeks cross training in terms of like energy levels and
- 2:56stuff? Bit tired, almost like I'm back
- 2:59training, which is probably good, yeah.
- 3:02Yeah, I must admit, yesterday, once we got back from that ride,
- 3:06genuinely, I felt like I'd done a marathon session or something,
- 3:08you know, like the just general fatigue, like tiredness, hunger
- 3:13and all that sort of stuff. It's, it's nice to feel that
- 3:15again. But then it's also like, oh
- 3:17shit, this is like what you, what you want to feel like.
- 3:21And then it comes on and it doesn't feel so good, does it?
- 3:24Yeah, no, it's nice to be reacquainted with it.
- 3:28Yeah, we can get into it in our training weeks, but we've sort
- 3:30of we're crossing over Owen. It's a bit bit sad, but we've
- 3:35yeah, we've been joining the front runner triathlon group for
- 3:39a few workouts, so I've. Seen that?
- 3:42I've seen some videos RAF put up.
- 3:44Yeah. And I'm like, I'd love to be
- 3:46there, but yeah, user in the Cyclone pack now, huh?
- 3:49Yeah, it's been good. It's been good.
- 3:50And it's been like, yeah, it's interesting, It's good.
- 3:54Good insight into sort of we, Brian and I were talking about
- 3:57this after we get dropped. It's a good appreciation for how
- 4:01good some of the, you know, how good these guys are guys and
- 4:04girls are and how to a degree some of this stuff translates,
- 4:10but to a degree it doesn't. But it's just been for us, I
- 4:12think just, you know, getting our heart rates up.
- 4:16So not being too bad. So you're backtracking on saying
- 4:19they're not average at everything.
- 4:22Who said that? That must have been Ryan, not
- 4:25there. Who said that?
- 4:26No, it was blue Owen. Oh.
- 4:32Yeah, I said that. I'll say that they're
- 4:35outstanding at everything. Yeah, exactly.
- 4:39No, I don't think Ralph has too much appreciation for how the
- 4:42fitness crosses over, though. Owen because free the ride.
- 4:45He's like, oh, Dean Ryan, new bullies will be all right, just
- 4:49like cruise out with them. Just stay in the back, don't do
- 4:51any work. And then once you get to the
- 4:53hills, your your fitness will take over.
- 4:55You'll be fine. So it was actually the other way
- 4:57around. So we cruised out with them, but
- 5:00it felt well to me felt like a bloody fart lack effort anyway,
- 5:04like just to stay attached. And then as soon as we hit the
- 5:07hill, all the cyclists just boom off and me and Dean, like
- 5:11they're just crawling up. Umm and how's your heart rate on
- 5:16these cycles? Because I'm now sort of doing a
- 5:19bit of cycling with mine and I can't get my heart rate up.
- 5:22Now it is only on a stationary bike, but I feel like my quads
- 5:25are so deconditioned to cycling, like it's a totally different
- 5:29way of using your quad muscle or something like that.
- 5:31And I can't get my hair up at all.
- 5:33So I we cycled for two hours and 40 minutes yesterday, which
- 5:38included like some efforts up hills cheering it.
- 5:42Umm and it got spicy early. Like the guys, I think we're
- 5:46trying to ensure that it was on a Stephen on the way to the
- 5:50hills. But my average heart rate was
- 5:53156, which like if I'm jogging it's like 1:30.
- 5:58If I'm doing a steady run, it's 1:50.
- 6:00So this was like I was suffering for over 2 hours.
- 6:04So yeah, it was pretty like if I'm riding by myself is is I
- 6:08find it hard to get my heart rate up.
- 6:09But in that sort of environment where you're really just
- 6:12struggling to stay attached, it was it was hard.
- 6:16And this is just, I'll probably only feel this one but like my
- 6:21ass does be so sore when I'm on the bike.
- 6:25Do you have like the padded shorts And like, do they
- 6:28actually make a difference? So I've always, yeah, so I
- 6:32always wear them. Ryan's just new to the padded
- 6:35short game, so he's he's just getting there.
- 6:39I've got a few updates for his actually, because last recording
- 6:43was pre that bloody gravel rider went and done last weekend,
- 6:47wasn't it? So to answer your first question
- 6:49now. And I done that and my heart
- 6:52rate hit 175 after 15 minutes just trying to stay attached.
- 6:57And then the average for the whole thing was 160.
- 7:00So yeah, like over 2 1/2 hours, 160 beats, it gave me a training
- 7:06load like the same as Ballarat Marathon.
- 7:09But like the next day you feel so much better, obviously
- 7:11because you haven't like smashed your body, but hopefully time
- 7:15will tell you actually get decent fitness effects from it.
- 7:19And yeah, on the short thing, remember I said that I bought
- 7:23some like the Lycra, but I didn't have the shoes and stuff.
- 7:26So it turns out on the morning I went to put the shorts on and as
- 7:31seen on the label it said women's.
- 7:35Give him the Dean. Dean wears them all anyway.
- 7:41I still would have warned them. I mean, why would you not have
- 7:43any padding? Because the padding was like, I
- 7:46assume it was supporting the female genitalia like all the
- 7:50way around the fronts, and it was rather uncomfortable.
- 7:55But what about your Gooch? You would have been in so much
- 7:58pain. Yeah, well, usually when I'm
- 8:00riding by myself, well when me and you were doing some like the
- 8:03intensity isn't that much and my ass seems to be like accustomed
- 8:07to it. But then jumping in that and
- 8:10after about half an hour, I was like, Oh no, this is like a long
- 8:12day for the for the backside here.
- 8:15So have you got some now or no? No, I went to swap them and he
- 8:19didn't have any men's. Jesus.
- 8:22Well, yeah, you should get them because it makes such a
- 8:24difference. Because absent that, yeah, I
- 8:27mean, particularly for me, because part of my problem is in
- 8:30that area. So I'm always wearing something.
- 8:32And I did go out and buy some proper, proper stuff during the
- 8:37week. Actually got some off ref which
- 8:39was very good. And then since now and then the
- 8:42Cupeteer interview came out on Wednesday.
- 8:44So on the bike chat as well. Hopefully people kind of took
- 8:48something from that very insightful in terms of their
- 8:51training insights and how they manage their load.
- 8:53So yeah, we've we've had some good feedback on that.
- 8:56So really, really glad about that one.
- 8:59You boys tuned in. Yeah, absolutely.
- 9:02I love that. And I think just his total
- 9:04outlook on like the cross training and the fact that what
- 9:08he's doing is working for Cole Hawker.
- 9:11So he's like, I'm keeping up with Cole in training, so it's
- 9:14only a matter of time before it clicks at me.
- 9:16And yeah, I just love that belief he has in himself.
- 9:18And like, you sort of have to be your own biggest fan in a way.
- 9:22So yeah. And that was cool.
- 9:23Yeah, I particularly liked him talking about how he, you know,
- 9:28in terms of on his non workout days, if he's doing like a bit
- 9:31of a swim at zone 2 in the morning, maybe it flushes your
- 9:34legs as well as does some decent cardio.
- 9:36But it's like a way of, you know, de risking his himself in
- 9:41terms of injury, right. It was, yeah, it was pretty cool
- 9:45in the use, use of the Ultra G and those sorts of things.
- 9:49Like, yeah, it just sounds like that him and his coach have a a
- 9:53really good idea of what's working for them.
- 9:55And then just contextualizing, like if he he's so close to to
- 10:01placing in one of those trials and being at these championships
- 10:04that really he's desperate to want to be in.
- 10:07And if he is, then, you know, he's really in contention to do
- 10:10very well at those championships.
- 10:11So he feels so unlucky in the sense of like he's on the cusp
- 10:15of doing something great. And so it will be really
- 10:18interesting following him. You just sort of feel for him
- 10:22quite a bit, right, Because after World champs, there's not
- 10:24anything straight away. So which is why he sort of took
- 10:28some time to decompress and go on holiday and stuff.
- 10:30But it's a bit of a long road now because next year is what is
- 10:34it Europeans com games like, I don't even know what they what
- 10:37the US has. And that's a particular focus,
- 10:40right? Maybe.
- 10:42Lacrosse. There's the world indoors as
- 10:45well, but maybe like, I mean, he'd probably do it.
- 10:47But yeah, it's. They don't have a 5K, do they?
- 10:50Is it like 15 and 3K maybe? Yeah, yeah.
- 10:55The three K could be even be his sweet spot because like he's
- 10:58really fit for the 5K. He loves the 15.
- 11:01So meet in the middle, do the three.
- 11:03Yeah, yeah, it'll be fun. Follow and because they post on
- 11:08YouTube, right, we'll be able to follow it, which is cool.
- 11:13Like, are we able to say like he's a friend?
- 11:15You know, people say our friend of the show Like, can we say
- 11:18like Cooper tears like a friend of the show now.
- 11:20You can say what you want. You seem to.
- 11:24If Cooper tear friend of the show and sort of he's friends
- 11:28with called Hawker. So like Olympic champion, friend
- 11:32of the show called Hawker. We're getting there boys.
- 11:36We'll. See on, on the Ulcer G show you
- 11:39made Dean as well thanks to Kerry more and I think it was
- 11:43who wrote in on the back of what you were suggesting last week
- 11:46about potential use of Ulcer G in terms of return from injury.
- 11:50And she gave us a really good suggestion as to how we might
- 11:55access the one locally available in BC Park, with the use of
- 12:00private health insurance to offset some of the costs.
- 12:02Yeah, it's a great shout out. I think it's that's probably
- 12:05done enough for me now to actually make them.
- 12:07I'm going to give it a shot. I think I'll see Steve during
- 12:10the week and then if I get the OK two, I'll start incorporating
- 12:13a bit of that, which will be fun.
- 12:14And there were some calls for a formal segment to be introduced
- 12:18on the back of the Cupidia chat, which Cooper coined himself as
- 12:22cat chat. So we'll see how we get on.
- 12:25It seems to have been a bit of an ad hoc segment anyway, but
- 12:29don't want to isolate any listeners who are dog people
- 12:32because I know it's people are strongly opinionated on cats
- 12:36versus dogs. So yeah, we'll maybe just keep
- 12:39it softly for now. Yeah, we're quick to not have an
- 12:41opinion on things, so that fair enough.
- 12:44Yeah, you've always sitting on the fence.
- 12:47The Easy Double diplomats and last little thing as well before
- 12:53we get into the episode formally, we do Exciting
- 12:56announcement really. We've got some caps available
- 12:59with the Easy double logo on and training caps.
- 13:03They've gone out for purchase in the clubhouse and a fair few
- 13:06people have snapped them up to be fair, so we'll put the
- 13:09remainder of them. By the time you listen to this,
- 13:11there'll be a post on the Instagram obviously showing you
- 13:14what the cap looks like and how to buy it.
- 13:17It'll just be through a Stripe checkout link.
- 13:20They're $30 plus $10 postage. However, that converts to the
- 13:24currency that you choose to pay in, and we can ship them
- 13:28worldwide, although that might be at a bit of a cost to us, but
- 13:31we're willing to do that if there's support out there.
- 13:34So I'm working on the Instagram. I'm working on the European,
- 13:38European side of things, so give me a couple of weeks and I
- 13:41should get them set up over here.
- 13:43All right then the episode is we don't really have any run
- 13:47results as Cardiff half going on pretty much this afternoon.
- 13:51I know Jake Smith and Callum Hawkins.
- 13:54Dean, your good old buddy from the was it.
- 13:59This way. Bitter sway.
- 14:00Yeah, 2018. Remember it like it was
- 14:03yesterday. They're both featuring there.
- 14:06So yeah, we don't have the results right now, but if you're
- 14:08interested to see how Jake Smith and Callum Hawkins got on then
- 14:11just give that a check. We've got plenty of news items
- 14:14though. We've got next week coming up,
- 14:16Chicago Marathon, Perth Marathon, Melbourne Marathon.
- 14:20There was a British coast coach suspended in the week and kind
- 14:25of some details came out about that case.
- 14:27The world indoor standards for Poland in March have been
- 14:30released. As always, there's been some
- 14:32more drugs news, Sebco is wanting to make some random
- 14:37changes to the Olympics, and again, another update on the
- 14:41Grand Slam track funding case. So we'll get into some of that.
- 14:45I guess. First off, Owen, you raced last
- 14:48week, didn't you? So do you want to kind of give
- 14:50us an update on your training week and how your race went and
- 14:53stuff? Yeah, one SEC.
- 14:54So Sunday was sort of just like so we record on the Saturday,
- 14:59Sunday. So just like a spur of the
- 15:00moment sort of race and it was actually the star to see one.
- 15:04So Andrew Coskarans club host a cross country race every year
- 15:09and it's just run out for being like hard.
- 15:11So I said like I didn't know what the competition was going
- 15:14to be like and well, I saw that it was going to be weaker than
- 15:17like just general. So I said I'd do it just like
- 15:22jump in a pair of spikes, do a hard cross country course and
- 15:25sort of like condition the legs a little, umm, like I was doing.
- 15:29I don't like a 20 minute warm up, but on the warm up I like
- 15:32rolled my ankle. So I've sort of like off like
- 15:36when we're talking cross country here, we're talking like a field
- 15:39where literally just sticks in it to like outline the course.
- 15:41So if you're not running on the racing line, it's like cattle
- 15:44have been on that field. So it's really uneven and like
- 15:48races were going on. So I was just trying to like
- 15:50stay outside and just like jog a bit of the course and I'm sure
- 15:53didn't roll my ankle. And I've got terrible like I
- 15:56don't know what it is, but in my family, but we've all have like
- 15:58glass ankles and so, and when I was a kid, I was on the family
- 16:03gate, fell on my foot. So like I sort of, it's really
- 16:06weird, but on my leg left foot, I should have two ankles.
- 16:09So where your ankle isn't below that I have another bump and and
- 16:13if I go over in the ankle, I just do ligaments straight away.
- 16:16So umm yeah, with over the ankle in the warm up pretty sore.
- 16:20And then I got my spikes on hand went over my ankle again.
- 16:25So I was like, oh, here, this is just not meant to be same.
- 16:28I rather yeah. So anyway, I've done the course
- 16:32around the race, won it and it's just like a nice head out to
- 16:36sort of like there's not a flap it in the course.
- 16:38It was up and down like it's probably going to be the hardest
- 16:40course I've run all year. And the legs were sort of like
- 16:43Jelly in the end. So like I got the effect of a
- 16:46race, which was which was good. And then on Monday I had just
- 16:56easy jog in the morning. And umm, your ankle out like
- 17:00immediately after the race? Like was it sore or umm it just
- 17:04it was OK but then maybe a bit stiff bit later on.
- 17:08No, it was sore. So umm I didn't do a cool down.
- 17:11I just went home and went on the bike for a cool down and like it
- 17:15like anytime I go on the ankle like it's sort of sore for like
- 17:184 to 5 days and like I can jog on it.
- 17:21It's just like not ideal. So umm yeah, like Monday morning
- 17:27I got out for 45 minute jog and I was ground.
- 17:29How did your knee get on as well?
- 17:31Remember you were talking about your shaved knee and stuff.
- 17:34So the knee is like, it's still not 100% but like it's, I feel
- 17:40like the bit of cycling I'm doing is helping a lot.
- 17:44It's like I rarely have like, so let's say on a Monday.
- 17:47So basically my week, Monday I run in the morning and instead
- 17:50of Dublin on a run, I cycle just to give it a little break.
- 17:53Tuesday is a double run, Wednesday is a full cycle.
- 17:56Thursdays are on, Fridays off. It's like I'm not over like it's
- 18:00getting a nice little break between runs.
- 18:03And so I feel like I just need to do this for a little bit,
- 18:05just get it used to it because I think I did like maybe overload
- 18:09it a little bit. And like I went from having a
- 18:11rest week to like doing a little bit like more running,
- 18:14obviously. And I might just been a little
- 18:15bit too much and lowered on it. And like these niggles happened.
- 18:19Like you're going to pick up little things like so inside
- 18:22your body might be a little bit tight.
- 18:23And yeah, so look, it's I'm managing it and it's not.
- 18:28So when I'm running, it's just like if I was to poke the area,
- 18:31like it just doesn't feel 100% like the other.
- 18:35Like if you get me. So I'll know more now later when
- 18:38I do my 90 minute run because like I'll have run twice
- 18:41yesterday. So it'll be interesting to see
- 18:43how it fares. But yeah, so.
- 18:48Any you purchase any locker for all this stationary barking, you
- 18:52know. No, but I'm going to.
- 18:54I just need to find some reasonable price.
- 18:56It's expensive stuff, isn't it? Yeah, you can get some good
- 18:59stuff online. Talking about Lycra on a
- 19:01stationary bike, you've just reminded me of one of my friends
- 19:04back home. He's a non runner but does like
- 19:06kind of CrossFit style train and just in the gym and bit of
- 19:10cardio, bit of weights, that type of thing.
- 19:13And he got ridiculed once and he couldn't understand why because
- 19:17he was doing a stationary bike whilst wearing a weighted vest.
- 19:21Now surely that is like just completely contradictory and
- 19:25does absolutely nothing. And he was like, well, what do
- 19:29you mean I'm carrying an extra 10 KG And I was like, yeah, but
- 19:32you physically going nowhere. It's.
- 19:34Going to hurt your back. So yeah, in the morning I get
- 19:38out for a 60 minute run and then Monday evening I just done 30
- 19:43minutes on the bike. I actually sort of want to know
- 19:46the ones with the ah, braces. Are they, do you know the likely
- 19:52the braces? I think that would be cool.
- 19:54I'm not trying to get for them. I'll, I'll send you a picture
- 19:57later if you like on. But yeah, and I've got plenty of
- 19:59them. Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 20:03Tuesday I actually had my testing, actually Monday
- 20:07evening, I had a chat with a nutritionist.
- 20:09And so after the cycle, I hopped on a car with a nutritionist and
- 20:13just give me a few little pointers on like what I can
- 20:16change in my diet. So like in terms of like instead
- 20:21of having like, like brown foods, like sort of fill you for
- 20:25longer. So let's say for lunch, instead
- 20:28of having like a white bagel, sort of have like brown bread
- 20:31and protein and all that and sort of have protein in every
- 20:34meal. And like if for dinner, if
- 20:38you're having like a big lump of protein for dinner, like it's
- 20:41not ideal to have a glass of milk because then the milk is
- 20:44competing. Like both of them are big
- 20:45protein sources. So then they're competing
- 20:47against each other to be absorbed into your body.
- 20:49Whereas if you had like an orange juice on a protein or
- 20:54some an iron, like they work well together so they'll
- 20:57actually absorb with each other or stuff like that.
- 21:01So yeah. Did they do a bit of a console
- 21:07on like kind of your current diet at all?
- 21:09Did they like kind of review how you have been eaten and stuff?
- 21:13Yeah, so I sent him what I eat. Like I pretty much eat the same
- 21:17every week. So I just sent him on like my
- 21:19train and even though like my train and has changed a little
- 21:22now because of the sort of loading of my knee.
- 21:27So like I just told him what I was eating and like I wasn't
- 21:32under fueling. It's just like I can clean up
- 21:34areas to like stop sort of the snacking.
- 21:37So if I like for breakfast, I normally have 30 grams of votes.
- 21:41That's now going to be 45. I'm going to have more like
- 21:44seeds and nuts with the breakfast.
- 21:47So it sort of keeps me fuller for longer.
- 21:49So I won't need, let's say, a slice of two slices of toast at
- 21:5310 because the bigger breakfast will carry me through.
- 21:55I can have like a banana or something, just little things
- 21:58like that. Like I was pretty like I was
- 22:00doing all right. It's just now like I'm more
- 22:02confident that like, I'm properly fueling for my runs and
- 22:06like recovering better. So yeah, no.
- 22:10Was there any observation around like macros?
- 22:13Like in terms of, you know, you're eating plenty of one
- 22:17particular macro but not a, but you could be eating more of
- 22:21another. So, umm, like as runners, like
- 22:25we need carbs. Like fair enough.
- 22:28It's important to have protein. I probably was overdoing the
- 22:31protein a little bit. Like, I could have been going
- 22:33through like 30 eggs in a week, which is like probably too much.
- 22:40So like for my lunch now, like I've sort of cut out a lot of
- 22:43the eggs, but like, I don't need them if you get me.
- 22:46Yeah, so the Instagram egg stuff that wasn't like a one off,
- 22:50that's just a that's every day. How was this day?
- 22:54So yeah, just little things like that and just more brown
- 22:58basically. I wasn't eating like I've got
- 23:00brown pasta now I've got brown rice just to like sort of fill
- 23:03me up for longer and don't like no, no point of eating like a
- 23:08big meal too close to bed because then your body's just
- 23:10digesting. It sort of affects your sleep in
- 23:12just little things. I can like clean up.
- 23:14And again, like I'd recommend everyone to have a just chat
- 23:17with nutritionist because it's, it's even really good to talk
- 23:19about these sort of things. And I'm like, I'm putting away
- 23:24so many calories and like it's, it's good to have like a biscuit
- 23:27or like a sweet treat. So umm, yeah, I know.
- 23:30I feel like it was definitely, definitely, definitely
- 23:32beneficial. So Tuesday morning, got up early
- 23:35and I had to drive into Dublin city center, which everyone
- 23:38knows on a Tuesday is not ideal because everyone goes into the
- 23:43office on a Tuesday. So umm, got up early and drove
- 23:47into Dublin to do like a VO2 Max test.
- 23:49Oh, umm, yeah, hopped on the treadmill.
- 23:52They put it out like what was it 16 K an hour, 17 K an hour, 18K
- 23:58an hour on and on and on until I couldn't run anymore and umm,
- 24:02yeah, it was good. Umm, I got on my VO2, I got like
- 24:05a race ways and I got just like, I know my threshold is pretty
- 24:11weak and I just though like to be honest, everyone's threshold
- 24:15is pretty weak. But like for the like the level
- 24:18I'm at like it is relatively weak.
- 24:19So I just need to work on that a lot so I can like, alter my
- 24:22training a little bit. But umm.
- 24:25And did you umm, chat at all with you, with your coach about
- 24:29that? Like what you might look to to
- 24:31focus on? Yeah, just more again, just
- 24:34longer about that higher threshold.
- 24:35Yeah. Umm, just getting that lactate
- 24:38cleared, umm, because like, I could compare the tests from a
- 24:43test I'd done four years ago and like, my heart rate data was
- 24:47really, really good back then and the same now.
- 24:49So like heart rate is a really, really good training metric for
- 24:52me. So literally just like ditch to
- 24:54paces and like, just go by heart rate.
- 24:56Really. Like I know Jake Barclough is
- 25:00like totally like the other way. But I think with Jake, like he,
- 25:06he, I think for a lot of people, once you get a pretty decent
- 25:09gauge of your training zones, you can sort of you, you sort of
- 25:13more or less know and then what a like for you like this testing
- 25:16does. Is it sort of validate some of
- 25:18the, the things you were doing? And it sort of says, well, yes,
- 25:23when I'm training at these intensities, I am hitting at or
- 25:27above threshold or I am working like, like, I doubt you're
- 25:30wildly off you now. Just so feel really comfortable
- 25:33that your heart rate is really correlating really well with
- 25:37your lactate scores, right? Exactly, like I just have more
- 25:40confidence now in what? Like the zones are actually my
- 25:43zones and they'll be interested. I'll go back now in January as
- 25:47well just to like do another test to see if I've improved
- 25:49over like 3 months. Yeah.
- 25:51And so now you don't have to burn through as many lactate
- 25:54strips to sort of get comfortable that you're doing
- 25:55all these when you're doing all these workouts.
- 25:57And then if in three or six months when you get it tested
- 26:00again and you're trying to manipulate something in your
- 26:03training, you hope that you see a response, right?
- 26:05Exactly. Exactly.
- 26:08And so, yeah, is it, is it ideas of around like you still look to
- 26:13keep your double threshold and they'll, they'll like you might
- 26:16just do longer meteor threshold workouts that's.
- 26:21Sort of like that, yeah. Like again, like I'll see what
- 26:25the code like my coach puts out in the coming weeks.
- 26:28But yeah, it's going to stick at the.
- 26:30I think it is going to be double threshold for Sam.
- 26:35Like I'll see, like I really I need to chat with my coach about
- 26:38it fully cool. And yeah, cool.
- 26:40Just to see what happens. So did you get like a formal VO2
- 26:44Max? Go on LC1LC2.
- 26:47So I did get a formal VO. I think my VO Max is like 71,
- 26:52but I think that's really umm, it's sort of irrelevant.
- 26:55Everyone's different like field to Max like it's a normal that
- 26:58everyone's like, Oh my God. But like I actually don't think
- 27:01it means that much. And 71 like I genuinely don't
- 27:06know what that means. And my LT1LT2 I'm not too sure.
- 27:10I know my LT2 like I actually so my LT2 is between like heart
- 27:15rate wise, it goes up to like 182 to 176.
- 27:19So previously, like I would have thought that's way too high, but
- 27:23it's actually like not so like I can push that event and I was
- 27:27sort of under training, like I could sort of push that a little
- 27:30bit more. And so yeah, look, I just
- 27:36haven't. That's good tonight.
- 27:38Yeah, exactly. I'm not under training but I
- 27:40just have to be careful how to not cook it.
- 27:42My, yeah, yeah. Because I think we sort of guess
- 27:46mine might be around 181 to 185 sort of in that sort of a range
- 27:52for LT2. But yeah.
- 27:55And then you try and prove that by when you get your lactate
- 27:58test done that it's not through the roof, right?
- 28:01And that's the thing, like everyone is different.
- 28:03Like I was trying to tell I was like, all right, so my LT2
- 28:09should be between like 3:20 and 3:10 and he's like, no, it's
- 28:13between 176 beats per minute and 182 be.
- 28:16It could totally depend. That can vary on your training
- 28:19load, the conditions outside. It's literally don't go by time,
- 28:24go by your heart rate. Your heart doesn't lie.
- 28:26So yeah, look, I'd recommend everyone to do it, get it done.
- 28:30It's really, really cool. Even if you're just like a
- 28:32standard runner, it's interesting information.
- 28:35And for context for listeners now used to please correct me
- 28:39here, but I'm going to have a crack.
- 28:40So like LT1 and LT2, that's the two different lactate threshold
- 28:45inflection points. And the first one being kind of
- 28:49when you start to produce it and you're able to clear out,
- 28:52produce clear, produce clear. Whereas the second one is when
- 28:56the lactate rate exponentially increases and your body is not
- 29:01clearing it out at all. And you would use kind of each
- 29:05zone LT1 or LT2IN which type of efforts in training say?
- 29:10So that like I always thought like LT1 is like, like that
- 29:14steady state pace is just sitting on or around that that's
- 29:17what you can run for, for, you know, quite a long time.
- 29:21And then Lt. 2 is like, it's like true threshold or what you
- 29:25can sort of sustain for an hour. So yeah, so depending on what
- 29:30you, what you're trying to do, I suppose you're trying to lift,
- 29:34you're trying to run quicker at at all intensities.
- 29:36But yeah, depending on what, where where you're wanting to
- 29:40try and get that improvement, understanding where those
- 29:43inflection points are and training, you know, around them.
- 29:46So producing that amount of lactate, then your body adapting
- 29:50and then doing it again. So just going like 8 by AK where
- 29:53you're running your K reps just at all just above quicker than
- 29:58threshold pace. So you have hour pace, you're
- 30:01doing say 3 minutes or however long you need to do and then,
- 30:05you know, resting for a minute. So your body's getting, you
- 30:07know, you're spending time at that sort of effort.
- 30:10And then like your LT1, that's that's what we were doing with
- 30:14the 4 by 6 minutes with the a minute very, very easy, like
- 30:19just a more aerobic training. And it sounds like a lot of the
- 30:23double threshold, it's, it's, it's more, I think part of the
- 30:27benefit of doing double threshold is you're just getting
- 30:29to do more quality work in a given week.
- 30:32And so then you're able just to on aggregate do more.
- 30:35And then once you move into a specific block, you can actually
- 30:39do more, a bigger amount of specific work.
- 30:42And so you can get closer to the fire than what someone that was
- 30:45not doing as much could, because if they tried to do what you
- 30:48were doing, they weren't as well adapted to as much training, as
- 30:51much quality training that would likely overcook themselves
- 30:55basically. So I think the hope is when
- 30:57you're doing all this this work, once you start to sharpen the
- 31:00pencil, you're more likely to sharpen it a bit more than what
- 31:03someone else could. So LT1 might be comparable to
- 31:07like kind of marathon effort, marathon pace, somewhere around
- 31:10there, like a rate at which you can sustain for a prolonged
- 31:13period without getting into too much trouble.
- 31:17Perhaps, yeah, like it depends if you're a four hour marathon,
- 31:20then like steady stay LT1's like a good proxy.
- 31:23But like if you're getting closer to say 2 hours, you're
- 31:27probably running at 9596% of threshold.
- 31:30So 96% of threshold is is definitely above LT1, sort of in
- 31:35between them. So yeah, that that was my
- 31:40Tuesday morning then. Yeah, drove back out of Dublin
- 31:43and had to jump back into work. And then straight after work I
- 31:47got out for my second session which was.
- 31:50It's just before you explain this, it'd be hilarious if you
- 31:53now proceed to tell us that you blew up badly in this session or
- 31:56something. I sort of my track, local track
- 32:01is good for Diego because it's short, so it can never really
- 32:05get your case, but it's right. So you're always running.
- 32:07You're always running slower than what the watch.
- 32:10You certainly take like 7 to 5 seconds off or added on to the
- 32:14time you actually get, so it makes you feel really good.
- 32:17But that's right on my session, and the session was all right.
- 32:21This so complicated when you're reading it, but it was 2 sets of
- 32:27four minutes, 1/2 marathon pace, one minute float, 4 minutes a
- 32:3410K pace, one minute float, 4 minutes a 5K pace, 3 minute
- 32:40floats. Do it again.
- 32:43So it worked out like 31 minutes of work on the average race,
- 32:49like 315, but it was on the short track so you could add
- 32:53like 5 to 7 seconds. Humped it up but.
- 32:56So so 315 per your Garmin or per your like per your watch.
- 33:01Or when that Garmin up it says 315 average race.
- 33:04Yeah, but it's getting a bit of like Latin GPS mail on it.
- 33:09Oh yeah, absolutely. Yeah.
- 33:10Yeah, yeah. Umm some of the Pacers are
- 33:14feeling too comfortable and what they would be for umm yeah, umm
- 33:19and actually like I did feel relatively good.
- 33:22Like that's 10K and it like worth of work, umm, or 9.5 K
- 33:26worth of work. So umm yeah, it was, it was a
- 33:29good day. Umm Wednesday I didn't run, I
- 33:34just cycled for an hour and then my brother had a football final
- 33:38and so I didn't get to go to circuits.
- 33:40I missed out and went to the football final, which he
- 33:43unfortunately lost. His team has lost like 6 finals
- 33:46in the last two years, which is yeah, it's not a good show and
- 33:51they'll come good. And is that they they got it, Is
- 33:55it a bit between the ears now, do you reckon or was it just
- 33:58unlucky or? I hate to say it but the referee
- 34:01absolutely didn't give them anything.
- 34:06I'm not going to get help me at. The referee was very harsh and
- 34:08I'm like to be fair, the game should have been done ages
- 34:12because they missed so many goal chances and poor yeah.
- 34:16And by goal chances they're going for, like in Gaelic, you
- 34:20can go, is it called an over? What's it called when you go
- 34:24just over the a a point for the? Yeah, over.
- 34:27The yeah, you get one point for that.
- 34:29And they're shooting for for at for goals past the caper hay.
- 34:33Then that so like a soccer like yeah, into the net, which is 3
- 34:36points, yeah. And I was shooting and I would
- 34:39just what get it? Is it, what's the, what's the
- 34:41play? Normally, I guess you just make
- 34:43a call as you get approaching the goal as to whether or not
- 34:45you. Yeah.
- 34:47Yeah, exactly. And this year they actually
- 34:49changed it. So there's like another bigger
- 34:53like semi circle around the goal where if it's sort of like a
- 34:56basketball 3 point shot. So if you shoot from outside of
- 35:00that you get 2 points. And it's actually changed the
- 35:02game like a lot. So still encourage like distance
- 35:06shooting if you get me. So yeah.
- 35:12So if you are shooting would you go for like top corner rather
- 35:16than bottom corner? Because then it could still end
- 35:18up being A1 pointer if you miss the top corner or.
- 35:21See that's the thing. But I think it's easier for the
- 35:25keeper to go up then down. So down is better but it's
- 35:30higher risk. Whereas up like fair enough you
- 35:33might get a point but like the keeper can also get to it as
- 35:37well easier. What about if he like tips it
- 35:39over? Do you still get your points?
- 35:41Oh yes, still a point. Yeah, yeah.
- 35:43And so Thursday I done 60, a 60 minute run, but there was a
- 35:51pickup in the middle of it and let me just get the training
- 35:56program up. Sorry, it was after after 20
- 36:01minutes, I picked it up for 20 minutes and then just 20 minute
- 36:04flow at the end. So I picked it up to around like
- 36:06three 20s and just again to build that sort of like to get
- 36:11to the legs and then try and flush it out in the end.
- 36:15And so that one was 62 minutes, 16 kilometers.
- 36:20And then I done a heavy lift gym session after that and Friday,
- 36:25totally off chilling yesterday. Then Saturday I had hills.
- 36:29So I went up to the Phoenix Park in Dublin and we done 2 sets of
- 36:37them, 6 by 200 meter hills. And so yeah, again, tranche
- 36:44country season, you're building the base, so hills are just sort
- 36:47of a staple in that. And then that evening I got out
- 36:50for just a 45 minute jog. And then later on today, yeah,
- 36:56go on. Sorry, when you said we went to
- 36:59Phoenix Park, did you go with the guy you've done your long
- 37:02run with the other week? No, so I actually my coach
- 37:05coaches this other girl Sarah. So she was up there and it's
- 37:10actually a funny story. So we so I planned, I organized
- 37:15to go at 9:00 in the morning. But like living on a farm, you
- 37:19should never make these time goals or whatever.
- 37:23Because I got a phone call in the morning and I had to go down
- 37:25and do some farming. So my brother is also, he lost
- 37:28his semi final. So he's now doing a little bit
- 37:30of running to sort of like get fit.
- 37:32And umm, he, I told him that we're going at 9:00, but he was
- 37:38working at 9:00. So he was like, oh, can you push
- 37:41it back to 11? And I was like, no.
- 37:42And I just forgot to tell him the change of time.
- 37:45So then I text at the time changed to 11:00.
- 37:48So we pulled up to the Phoenix Park and Care Park and I was
- 37:52just getting changed and next to my brother hops out the car
- 37:54beside me and he's like, what are you doing here?
- 37:57So yeah, we're just huge joined as well.
- 37:59And my brother sort of like he sort of like a freak.
- 38:01He umm, he should really be doing the running and I should
- 38:04be playing the football. Like he was doing them 200 meter
- 38:07hills. And fair enough.
- 38:08Like he's more like fast twitch fiber.
- 38:10Umm, yeah. But Gina Mackey was like if he
- 38:14was beating me up on some of the hills, like he's, yeah, just.
- 38:16And he was out for eight weeks. He's only back running four
- 38:19weeks. So yeah, I got like, if he was
- 38:21actually a runner, he'd be, he'd be, he'd be serious and.
- 38:26This is a younger brother. He's 23, yeah.
- 38:30So, umm, yeah, that was hills. And then I done just on 45
- 38:35minutes yesterday. I know later on today I've got a
- 38:3790 minute run with some pickups in the middle of it.
- 38:41What sort? Of gradient, do you try and
- 38:43shoot for with the with the hills?
- 38:46I don't really like we were hitting around like 30 seconds
- 38:50going up the hills, so like it's.
- 38:53Not it's. Not super super steep but like
- 38:56there is a pole. Yeah.
- 38:58So like maybe 3-4 percent maybe. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 39:01It's not like you're still able to like mechanically, like it
- 39:03doesn't alter your mechanics, put it that way.
- 39:05But you're still a bit like move.
- 39:07You remember the grain mile that goes up through the middle of
- 39:09Kings Park? Would it be?
- 39:10Yeah, exactly. Yeah, something like that.
- 39:12Yeah, and what's Phoenix Park like at the minute with Dublin
- 39:16Marathon later this month? Is it booming?
- 39:19Guys, it is absolutely not everyone underdog is out
- 39:24running. It's so cool to see.
- 39:26And like actually during the week.
- 39:28So Wednesday, Thursday, the heat wave came back.
- 39:32So it was like it was like 17. It was like really, really
- 39:37humid, but you could just feel that it was going to rain.
- 39:42So like that was the storm sort of coming in And then Friday
- 39:46pissed rain Saturday, like like you had to literally like it was
- 39:50so, so windy. And I think Cardiff Half
- 39:53Marathon there was a race on. Well, there was meant to be like
- 39:55a kids race on yesterday at the consulate because there was a
- 39:57massive storm. Like it's actually branches out
- 40:00on the roads. It was first time I proper
- 40:04missed Australia. Like it was cold West and just
- 40:07not nice. And so today it looks a lot
- 40:10calmer outside Porsche. Yeah.
- 40:14So I think that was the last little heat wave we'll get now,
- 40:17and it's going to be. Cold like this morning it was 9°
- 40:21feels like tree. So like I'm just literally like
- 40:23gloves on all the time now. So yes.
- 40:27What are we seeing you in right now?
- 40:28Is that a brunch coat? You got your rock in there.
- 40:31Wait, what do you call it? It's a dressing gown.
- 40:35Dressing gown. Dressing brunch coat.
- 40:37But yeah, dressing. Gown because normally like
- 40:39dressing gown or housecoat, OK, it's the big like debate.
- 40:43Well shit. Speaking of then, I owe an
- 40:46apology to our great British JB listeners about front crawl a
- 40:52couple of my. Seemingly so you got the the
- 40:55British fired up in the club, Little.
- 40:57Did I know? I think thankfully when we
- 40:59Aussies hopped in the water we didn't.
- 41:02We we were told freestyle put your arms over freestyle.
- 41:06But no, it was front crawl is what I've beaten.
- 41:10Was right. Yeah, apparently so.
- 41:13There's a few, a few listeners wrote in and British listeners
- 41:18wrote in and and in Ryan's defence and explained that front
- 41:23crawl is the term to describe what I would describe as
- 41:27freestyle. Yeah, but and that freestyle is
- 41:31you can do anything. So it's more of like a a term
- 41:34used in in swimming competition where you can choose any stroke,
- 41:40albeit that people tend to use front crawl so.
- 41:45Because it's probably the faster.
- 41:47Yeah, exactly. And we've lost Ryan.
- 41:49He sees, he's heard that and he's just, he's just dipped.
- 41:53He's just dipped off. He's he's got his win for the
- 41:56morning with the afternoon. And do you want to touch on your
- 42:01week then? Yeah, yeah.
- 42:04So Monday I didn't do too much. Monday was a like a public
- 42:10holiday or bank holiday here in Perth.
- 42:12So I did go to the gym. So I kept up my gym routine and
- 42:19we actually managed to convince house and I got Ryan down to
- 42:22join us. So we did our gym routine
- 42:24together. So Steve, the physio who's
- 42:28treated Ryan recently has was treating a couple of clients
- 42:32even though it was a public holiday.
- 42:34So we opened up the gym and we snuck in and got did a workout,
- 42:37which was good. Was he like watching yous do all
- 42:41the exercises or is it just like the gym beside the front runner
- 42:45HQ? Yeah, pretty much the gym, it's
- 42:47very much like that. So they've got to, they've
- 42:49opened up another office in Osborne Park, but he was
- 42:52consulting in the rooms in the rooms next door.
- 42:54But he'd written us, he's written both of us sort of
- 42:58programs that we need to sort of follow, which is specific to our
- 43:02injuries as well as I've been seeing SNC trainer on a Monday
- 43:08night as well. Who he house and I we've he he
- 43:12sort of gives garden in like facilitates a class for us for
- 43:16about 50 minutes on a Monday night.
- 43:18So we're basically following that program with updates that
- 43:23Steve gets us based on how we're progressing with regard to our
- 43:27injuries. Just saying Monday, Ryan, we
- 43:31were we're in the gym in Osborne Park when we working on our weak
- 43:39areas. I suppose that we've sort of
- 43:41that Steve sort of has identified and that we're sort
- 43:43of safe to to, you know, exercise.
- 43:47We're allowed to do that. Hopefully gonna de risk us going
- 43:51forward and also get us closer to running soon.
- 43:53Yeah, be in response, spending the public holiday in a
- 43:56responsible manner. But yeah, so then Tuesday
- 43:59morning, Ryan and I got out for a ride with Raff.
- 44:05Raff actually joined us on the bike for the first bit, which
- 44:07was nice. I think Ryan, you were pretty
- 44:11Jelly legged right from your bike race.
- 44:13So and I was still feeling oh that's right, I've done a bigger
- 44:18ride on the Saturday as well. So we just spun around, did the
- 44:22river loop before we headed into the office.
- 44:24So for me it was about 60 KS before work, which was nice.
- 44:27And then I rode home. Tuesday arvo I.
- 44:31Went should have seen it. Raff was.
- 44:32It was almost Raff the athlete rather than Raff the coach.
- 44:35Once you got him onto the bike, he could see the cogs in his
- 44:39brain twisting and thinking about a return to competitive
- 44:43training and stuff. No way really.
- 44:45Yeah, he's quite, yeah, he's quite competitive.
- 44:47As soon as I think the the IT started flowing.
- 44:50He was trying to work out who we could train up and start
- 44:52beating, which he probably saw us as easy targets really.
- 44:57That right? But that was good Wednesday
- 45:01morning. Jim Dagan Wednesday afternoon
- 45:03met Ryan in the pool. So we just did, I can't
- 45:08remember, it was like 1500 meters in the pool and then we
- 45:11did, or 30 minutes in the pool perhaps, and then about 30
- 45:14minutes of Aqua jogging again, just there's like 2 pools right
- 45:19next to each other, 50m lane pool and then like a deep pool
- 45:21where they do water polo. So hopped out, put on our
- 45:24running belts and ran around in circles for a bit on Wednesday
- 45:28evening, which was nice. We're both ears doing Aqua
- 45:34jogging like in the same lane together.
- 45:36Yeah. That's been so funny to see.
- 45:41Yeah, you can't have an ego when you're when you're properly
- 45:44injured. That's what I've what I've
- 45:46learned. Absolutely not.
- 45:50Thursday got a massage, gymed again and then just rode.
- 45:54I think I wrote about 25 KS for the day, but it's just easy
- 45:57riding. And sorry, but that was wait, Oh
- 46:03no, that was incidental riding on the Wednesday.
- 46:08When did we do bike intervals? Right?
- 46:09Was that Thursday? Yeah.
- 46:11Yeah. So Thursday morning we had.
- 46:14Yeah, so Thursday morning we had, that's right, Wednesday I
- 46:17was running around as well. We joined front runner, the
- 46:21triathlon group for a bike interval set in Kings Park.
- 46:27And so it was 530. Was it start time, wasn't it, at
- 46:295:30 sharp? And it was criterium sort of
- 46:35loops at a steady or steady effort.
- 46:37So you'll go easy lap, then two steady laps, easy lap, 2 steady
- 46:42laps of this sort of crit sort of circuit at the top of Kings
- 46:45Park. So we did those and then we did
- 46:495 or 6 efforts up. They call it like cardiac climb,
- 46:53but just one of the bigger climbs in Kings Park.
- 46:56Not anything that we normally run up to be honest.
- 46:59You know, we've normally spend our time running loops of land
- 47:02May and Lufkin, but this one sort of peels off.
- 47:04It's a bit of a sharper pinch, but we did, yeah, five loops up
- 47:09that. And then it finished with a 5K
- 47:12race, wasn't it? So they set off a couple set off
- 47:17before us. Then it was Ryan and I, and then
- 47:20it was like the main, the, the, the sort of the big dogs, you
- 47:24know, the faster young triathletes, the likes of like
- 47:27Luke, you remember Luke Bates and, and those guys and they,
- 47:31they were pretty. I thought we were holding a
- 47:33pretty decent pace, but they caught us pretty quickly, didn't
- 47:36they? Yeah, when they told us the the
- 47:38true insight, they were just using us to tow them along and
- 47:41they were right behind us. Like straight away.
- 47:42We thought we held them off for a little longer, didn't we?
- 47:46We did, but we did manage to keep up with them up.
- 47:49Was it my drive before? Because there was sort of a
- 47:51point where they'd marked where the Sprint finish would be.
- 47:54We did manage to hold their wheel for a good chunk of it,
- 47:56albeit there there there's quite a bit of foxing wasn't there on
- 47:59their part. Yeah, and you, you were almost
- 48:01getting trying to get involved in the Sprint, Sprint finish
- 48:04between the two of them. And when you told them
- 48:06afterwards they were like, oh, you didn't just don't get
- 48:09involved mate. It's between us.
- 48:11Yeah, that they were upset that I was trying to jump on their
- 48:14wheels. But every man for Easter, every
- 48:16house, I was having a guy anyway.
- 48:20But look, it was good. Is again, talk about high heart
- 48:23rate. Yeah, OK.
- 48:24Like my legs were absolutely rinsed after that.
- 48:28I think I limped home. I rode home, I had the day off
- 48:30work not because of that, but we we took the kids to the royal
- 48:35show. But.
- 48:37But yeah, it was a lot of fun. It was like that.
- 48:39That would have been the hardest I'd worked on the bike since
- 48:43sort of cross training and I had a little bit of pain in my sort
- 48:47of in that area, but nothing, but nothing substantial.
- 48:51So didn't feel like it came at any real cost, which was good
- 48:55and felt like I got something out of it.
- 48:57And for contacts for Owen and others, Dean, the person that we
- 49:01were paired with on the bike was a 16 year old girl. 15 year old
- 49:06girl. For the for the steady part,
- 49:09Yeah. Oh, no, she's not.
- 49:11I think it's not, yeah. That that makes us sound bad.
- 49:20But yeah, well, I think we're, look, I, I didn't think we're
- 49:22doing too bad, to be fair. But but look, we've certainly be
- 49:27better once we can get back running, that's for sure.
- 49:31Friday was just a couple of easy rides.
- 49:33And then Saturday was the next time we sort of got fed,
- 49:37probably got fed to the wolves, didn't we?
- 49:40So there we went from, we met the triathlon group again and
- 49:45that we rode out well up well Welshpool Road and out towards
- 49:49Picker Pickering Brook. They were doing like this big
- 49:51ride and brick session off that so that they were running off
- 49:55the bike and Ryan and I rode up Welshpool Rd. did a loop of
- 50:00Pickering Brook and then we could have done another one but
- 50:03it was we're a bit wet and we were pretty tired.
- 50:06We were probably, what, 40 KS into it by that stage and we
- 50:09knew we had to ride a similar amount to get home.
- 50:12So we went to the local cafe. It was lovely actually.
- 50:14They did a really good cup of coffee and we had a granola cup
- 50:19and a banana bread and recharged our batteries before we hopped
- 50:23back into the into the mix. And then what?
- 50:25Young Kade, who I think is still in school, he he towed us home.
- 50:31Yes, maintain sat there having a coffee whilst the triathletes
- 50:34are like pummeling more loops and then about to run off the
- 50:37back of it. And we're just like, I wonder,
- 50:39like, what's an appropriate time for us to head back out into the
- 50:42the wet and the cold to cycle home, to get a lift home?
- 50:46I feel like he's have gotten a newfound respect for Charlie and
- 50:49what they do. Mad.
- 50:51So like, yeah, put in perspective, if I like that
- 50:55401K, you know, that look we did out in Helena, like that hilly
- 51:00progressive run, I'm pretty sure my heart rate was lower when I
- 51:04did that. And that would have been a
- 51:05similar time, 2 1/2 hours at a lower heart rate than what I had
- 51:09on for this ride on the weekend. Like we were proper suffering
- 51:13and we weren't doing close to what they were doing so.
- 51:17But you aren't as fit either, so like, Nah.
- 51:21Nah. It's true you aren't as fit, so
- 51:23you have to date that and consideration.
- 51:25But yeah, but but just in terms of the amount of like, yes, they
- 51:32wouldn't have been working as hard as what we were working in
- 51:34terms of on the way out there for sure.
- 51:36But what they are able to do in a day like those guys are.
- 51:40Then I was chatting to Kate on the way back and like he'll do a
- 51:42long run this morning and then a swim in the afternoon.
- 51:45And like what they their training load in a given week is
- 51:50is massive. And what they're able to do on
- 51:51the bike and stuff, it's pretty phenomenal.
- 51:54It's the hours are like like even this week I'd say you have
- 51:57done way more hours of training than when you'd be running full
- 52:01time. Yeah, probably, yeah, probably
- 52:0310-12, yeah. So, yeah, it's not a bad amount
- 52:07of work. So which is good?
- 52:09Yeah, somewhere between, I don't know, 10 and 15 hours.
- 52:11So which is good. Keeps us ticking over, that's
- 52:14for sure. I won't repeat that because my
- 52:17week just, I guess, feeds off the back of yours, Dean.
- 52:20So yeah, another step in the right direction, hopefully for
- 52:23the base fitness and it's another week ticked off in terms
- 52:27of the rehab and not loading it up.
- 52:30So hopefully another week closer in that sense.
- 52:33Right, then on to some news agenda items.
- 52:36We've got quite a few here. I think the first one perhaps
- 52:39most importantly because we've spoken about Grand Slam Track
- 52:42quite a lot. Did you see that Grand Slam
- 52:45Track has received an emergency lifeline payment from some
- 52:50innovative commerce, existing investors, which has allowed
- 52:54them to pay out at least or not at least half apparently of what
- 52:59the athletes are owed today. They're meant to have made that
- 53:02payment on Friday. And there is an unnamed source
- 53:06close to one of the athletes who seems to have confirmed that
- 53:09their athlete has received this payment.
- 53:11So I mean, I don't want to congratulate them for doing what
- 53:15should be standard, but I guess it comes as a bit of a shock
- 53:18given like the people who we'd spoken to and kind of how their
- 53:23feelings and optimism was towards receiving payments that
- 53:26they've actually now started to get that money.
- 53:28So that's interesting. Like if they didn't give them
- 53:32the money, like it just makes things so, so much worse.
- 53:35And like, it literally gives it no hope for the future.
- 53:38Whereas if they actually pay them some of the money, like
- 53:41there's that little glimmer of hope that it might come back.
- 53:45But yeah, it's just shit that they're not getting the full
- 53:47amount of their promise. Well, apparently they've set as
- 53:50well a payment plan to give the athletes some sort of hope that
- 53:55they will actually, or they do intend to pay them the rest of
- 53:58it, which like say this time last week you would have just
- 54:01been like or a load of shit. But now at least if they've
- 54:04received the 1st 50% and then they're saying and we'll give
- 54:07you this, this and this on these dates, then I know we'll see.
- 54:11But the figures behind it, supposedly they have a total
- 54:13debt of $19,000,000 with 11,000,000 being owed to the
- 54:17athletes and eight to vendors. And they've reportedly received
- 54:22an injection of 5.3 million, which has largely been used to
- 54:26pay the athletes off, half of it off.
- 54:29And then they're starting to pay some of the vendors.
- 54:31But it does also say that they're trying to negotiate with
- 54:35these vendors, too. So no doubt they're trying to
- 54:37bargain and reduce the amounts owed.
- 54:39By vendors, what do you mean? The facilities and stuff like
- 54:42that. So remember that Miami truck
- 54:45they owed like 80 grand too. But like, it's crazy that they
- 54:49would have seen these. They would have seen like, all
- 54:52right, we're going to need 19,000,000 worth of like revenue
- 54:55to like even break even. And like I'd say they were
- 54:59probably expecting to make a loss, but like to like, what
- 55:03model were they? I don't know.
- 55:05I just had with this, yeah. Pretty cheeky hair that they
- 55:09could rack up all this debt. Be like, nowhere near, Yeah, I
- 55:12don't know. Sending all the athletes on like
- 55:14business class and in the five star hotels and stuff.
- 55:18Michael Johnson wasn't an accountant and undergrad, was
- 55:21he? He was a dreamer.
- 55:24Philosophy major or something? The second news item is that
- 55:29Andy Young, who is the former coach of Olympic and world
- 55:34medalist Laura Muir and all the Great Britain athlete Gemma
- 55:38Riki, so they're both 800 or 1500 meter runners.
- 55:42He's been banned for three years for serious misconduct after two
- 55:46panels found that he inverted commas, placed performance above
- 55:50athlete welfare and engaged in manipulative and coercive
- 55:54behavior. Go on.
- 55:56Go and finish off finish it. Goes on to describe that his
- 55:59actions include the driving at speed with an athlete in his car
- 56:04to the point where the athlete requested to get out because
- 56:07they were scared and then he just drove off.
- 56:09That is actually quite minor compared to the others, but.
- 56:12That was in South Africa in the middle of nowhere.
- 56:14So yes, yes, in the middle of nowhere.
- 56:18So that was actually pretty, pretty bad as well.
- 56:20Yeah, OK. That context just changes it
- 56:22entirely, doesn't it? There's literally like leopards
- 56:25and stuff prancing round. Literally.
- 56:29He was found to have ignored medical advice, forcing an
- 56:31athlete with foot pain that became a stress fracture to
- 56:34continue to train and to have threatened to exclude athletes
- 56:38from training or races if they did not comply.
- 56:42And the panel ruled Mr. Young could be very forceful to the
- 56:45point of exerting pressure so severe that it amounted to
- 56:48manipulation or bullying. Athletes felt they had no
- 56:51realistic option but to comply, and on one occasion, he
- 56:56reportedly told an athlete to post a tweet that was likely to
- 56:59upset their sponsor or another. He made a comment about waste.
- 57:03Then that's the the driving story continued.
- 57:08So, I mean, this guy sounds like a pretty nasty case.
- 57:13And Laura Muir has actually gone on record and said that she
- 57:15fully supports the decisions, but by the panels and she's
- 57:19since rediscovered their love of the sport.
- 57:21So that kind of says a lot as well, basically that she's she's
- 57:25willing to be outspoken about it.
- 57:27And the CEO of UK Athletics says it's a difficult and sobering
- 57:32case. Like this chap should just not
- 57:35be allowed near any athletes whatsoever.
- 57:39Like, he's clearly missing a few screws.
- 57:44It's like it's crazy that this shit goes on.
- 57:46Like, I feel like it's sort of similar to like the Jacob case
- 57:49in a way. Like as the word the father just
- 57:52takes it a step too far. But it's just crazy that like,
- 57:56the likes of Laura me are and Jeremy Ricky, like both top
- 57:59class athletes were like going through all this while
- 58:03performing at such a high level. Yeah, it's, it's totally,
- 58:08totally, totally wrong. It seems like, I don't know,
- 58:11there must be like a particular personality type that finds
- 58:14themselves into these roles and then they just become very like
- 58:17controlling and they just, it all just spills over because
- 58:20they're obviously hopefully come in with very noble intentions.
- 58:25And then you just, they just become obsessive and then obsess
- 58:27over all the wrong things in all the wrong ways.
- 58:29And then they just, yeah, it's very sad, but good that it's
- 58:32obviously bubbled to the surface and, you know, been dealt with.
- 58:35Right. And that's what Laura Muir's
- 58:38comments are saying, that she's happy it's been.
- 58:40How did this come out, Ryan? Do you know how it came?
- 58:44Out don't know, you know, if it came from like complaints or if
- 58:47yeah, I don't know what the the root of it was.
- 58:49Like I don't think she he should be ever allowed near an athlete
- 58:52again like 3 years. Like the damage, isn't it like a
- 58:56five year ban reduced to three and then they've kind of like.
- 58:59See, Ryan, yeah, like the fact that he can be banned for five
- 59:05years and get it reduced and it's like.
- 59:11Yeah. Surely, Yeah.
- 59:13Surely this gets broadcast enough such that it's it's
- 59:16there's no, you know, scope to do it again.
- 59:21Ever come back from that? But you even see like the likes
- 59:23of Shelby, like she literally got banned for taking drugs and
- 59:27now she's back. Like, I don't think he will come
- 59:30back. He'll find an athlete.
- 59:31And yeah, it's just, it's not, it's not good for the sport.
- 59:37Owen's already got to work a bit today, Ryan, come on.
- 59:41Up Chicago Marathon next weekend, the next major on the
- 59:44calendar. I think we've covered this field
- 59:47before once when it was released, but I guess it's a bit
- 59:50more pressing now that it's the week before.
- 59:53So in the women's field, some notable names.
- 59:57The fastest PB on paper is McGee to Alimu.
- 1:00:02How we face that? And these athletes are both from
- 1:00:042:16 and 2:17. And then kind of notable names
- 1:00:09from our point of view is Carly Hoga Thackeray 221, Lindsay
- 1:00:13Flanagan, The American 223. Anyone else stand out to you
- 1:00:16guys there? Philly Bowden?
- 1:00:18Yeah, I was going to say her. It's.
- 1:00:19Pretty, it's pretty light for Chicago.
- 1:00:22Oh, you reckon that's a good fear?
- 1:00:24It feels just a bit light for like Chicago, like, I don't
- 1:00:27know, but. Like I feel like it's light
- 1:00:29because they don't have Stefan Assan.
- 1:00:32Well, that other one who broke the record, she's washed, she's
- 1:00:36dope and and then you've got a Safa like other than that, like
- 1:00:40they're just miles ahead of everyone else.
- 1:00:42So like I pretty it's I don't know, Chicago's pretty fast as
- 1:00:45well, so you can expect them to all run faster.
- 1:00:47Like I'd love to see Philly Bowden like make another jump,
- 1:00:50even though I don't know how her how her build has gone.
- 1:00:53I know earlier on she was struggling in the build, but her
- 1:00:56YouTube, but I'm not sure. I haven't seen any of her recent
- 1:00:58videos so I'm not too sure of how she's gone.
- 1:01:01Yeah, maybe it's a bit like in terms of profile, like when you
- 1:01:04look at the the names on the on the fastest athletes there to to
- 1:01:07be honest, they don't mean all that much to me.
- 1:01:10But obviously the times are quick.
- 1:01:11Like there's once there's 5 sub 220 ladies.
- 1:01:14But yeah, like you say, there's no Hassan or Helena Beery or
- 1:01:19whatever you like. The men's though, is probably a
- 1:01:22little bit deeper, maybe suggested by the fact that
- 1:01:27there's actually physically more people in the field named as
- 1:01:29well in the elite field. So you've got John Korea kind of
- 1:01:32topping things 2/02/44, and he's potentially going for a world
- 1:01:36record here. So he did run and win this last
- 1:01:40year. You've got Timothy Kaplanga,
- 1:01:432/02/55. You've got Kaplimo who's
- 1:01:48obviously the crazy half marathon guy.
- 1:01:50You've got Bashir Abdi, then Connor Manse is going for the US
- 1:01:54record. You've got Galen Rope making a
- 1:01:58bit of a comeback. Rory Linklater, CJ Albertson,
- 1:02:00Mark Scott. So yeah, there's there's
- 1:02:04multiple things going on that man's field.
- 1:02:07Jeffrey. Jeffrey.
- 1:02:09Yeah, he's a he's an old dog now, isn't he?
- 1:02:12Well, in Ryan's book he is, but I think he's still got a bit of
- 1:02:15life left in him. And when's New York?
- 1:02:19NY's pretty close to this one, isn't it?
- 1:02:22Yeah, I think it comes next, yeah.
- 1:02:25So like between the World Championships, Chicago, New
- 1:02:29York, Valencia, like it's sort of hard to do them all.
- 1:02:31So you probably pick like world champs Valencia.
- 1:02:35That's sort of a nice gap between them.
- 1:02:37Whereas if you're to pick like Chicago or New York, it's sort
- 1:02:39of reels you out of Valencia. And I feel like everyone's,
- 1:02:42everyone is trying to do Valencia because it's got such a
- 1:02:44good name now. Yeah.
- 1:02:45And I think like whenever you're read out on one of these start
- 1:02:48lists, everyone's sort of read out by their PB, aren't they?
- 1:02:51So it's sort of in order of so you go to Valencia to to run
- 1:02:55your PB and then you and then you're probably getting well
- 1:02:58looked after and all the races you're appearing in.
- 1:03:02Hot. I'm going to say Jacob Kiplin MO
- 1:03:05breaks the world record. He's after he's a smart kid.
- 1:03:08He he runs the half marathon world record, then has an
- 1:03:12alright debut to make it believable.
- 1:03:14And now he's going to run Chicago, which is a renowned
- 1:03:17fast course and breaks the world record.
- 1:03:20He might break 2 hours, but he'll he'll break the world
- 1:03:23record and call it be cool. Maybe he's flying a little bit
- 1:03:27under the radar here as well because there's time.
- 1:03:29On paper he's like the sixth fastest, but he's he's got that
- 1:03:33like insane half marathon world record just in the background
- 1:03:37there. Yeah, could be a big call.
- 1:03:39What's the Has anyone looked at the the weather forecast in
- 1:03:45Chicago? What's what's it?
- 1:03:47Is he going to be cool enough? While she looked that up, I
- 1:03:50wonder what's going on with this guy AFA Werke Zeru, who's in on
- 1:03:53the men's elite list there because the he's got the slowest
- 1:03:57PB of everyone to 1854, and then the guy immediately above him
- 1:04:02with the second slowest PB is a 212 guy.
- 1:04:04So I wonder how AFA Werke has made it on here?
- 1:04:08Look at his World Athletics. What's the best he's run?
- 1:04:10Like a 59 minute half marathon or something stupid.
- 1:04:13Probably. Or his coach is that fucking
- 1:04:16silver guy. Where is agent?
- 1:04:19The the weather doesn't look great at the minute.
- 1:04:22I mean, it doesn't look terrible, just doesn't look
- 1:04:24great. It looks like a bit middling as
- 1:04:27far as weather goes. Like it's not as warm as what
- 1:04:29Berlin was, but it's not, it's not super cool like what it's
- 1:04:33been in like in Chicago the past couple of years.
- 1:04:36So note that down. If that's the case, I'd be
- 1:04:40surprised if anyone goes super fast.
- 1:04:43Although you put Mr. Saar away from 2 weeks ago in in that
- 1:04:46weather and potentially he breaks the world record based on
- 1:04:49his performance, there wasn't. It yeah, but I think he's a bit
- 1:04:52special. There's something gone.
- 1:04:53He was running very fast. I'll tip.
- 1:04:57Guandin. Oh no, my tip, I'll tip Abdi to
- 1:05:02to beat Kipolimo. So for Wirkie Zurku, he's
- 1:05:05actually American. Oh, there you go.
- 1:05:07So that's how he's he's got the elite.
- 1:05:09And he's run. He ran a 61 minute half in in
- 1:05:14January in Houston 60. One, yeah.
- 1:05:19So he's a 218. He's got a bit to take off that.
- 1:05:23Where did you run? I'm trying to find Ray around
- 1:05:25the 218. Were you thinking we could sneak
- 1:05:28onto that field? Definitely not I'll be putting
- 1:05:32down like a cycle power outage or something.
- 1:05:34Wattage can see how mark Scott gets on because since he
- 1:05:37transitioned to the mark, obviously he was incredibly
- 1:05:40talented on on the track 5010 thousand, but I don't think it's
- 1:05:45kind of gone as well as he would like since he transitioned to
- 1:05:48the roads. Like he's done a lot of good
- 1:05:50half marathons whilst he was a track runner, but now I think
- 1:05:53he's like formally identifying, not quite physically as a
- 1:05:58marathoner, but you know what I mean?
- 1:05:59That's how he sees himself as an athlete, so.
- 1:06:01I think the big watch and hopefully it's it's covered well
- 1:06:04in the broadcast is whether or not Conor Manz breaks the
- 1:06:07American record or North American record if we include
- 1:06:13Cam Levens's 20536. So that should be that.
- 1:06:19It's probably what I'll be. I mean, I'll be watching the
- 1:06:21lead group like that. It, it reads like a really
- 1:06:24interesting race upfront, but also I'll be watching that,
- 1:06:27right? Which is interesting because I'm
- 1:06:30sure Clayton Younger is in the lead car.
- 1:06:33So hopefully the broadcast coverage is unreal because like
- 1:06:36imagine Mance does it and like Clayton's there commentating on
- 1:06:40him and stuff that we class. Yeah.
- 1:06:45So the weather at the moment, it's forecasting rain and an
- 1:06:49overnight low of 15°. So you probably want that to 17K
- 1:06:54now wins. You probably want all those
- 1:06:55things to improve slightly, but it's not.
- 1:06:57Nothing's terrible there. This this after work.
- 1:07:01He's Urku 0. He's had such a weird So in 2023
- 1:07:07in June he ran a 62 minute half and then later on that year he
- 1:07:12ran 218 in Porto. It must have.
- 1:07:17Split something pretty aggressive and then falling
- 1:07:20apart. I can I can hear this Mr. Zeru
- 1:07:24now quaking in his boots because Owens on to.
- 1:07:26The Olympic Trials in the Olympic Trials in 2024, here on
- 1:07:312/20 in Orlando. I don't know.
- 1:07:37He's on the on the burritos, you reckon?
- 1:07:40I didn't say, I'm just looking at those results here.
- 1:07:43Allegedly. And yeah, look.
- 1:07:48So the second of three major, not majors big marathons next
- 1:07:53week is the Perth Running Festival.
- 1:07:57Unfortunately, in comparison to Chicago, we don't quite have an
- 1:08:01elite field to go through. I did reach out to them last
- 1:08:04week and ask but no response. They did see the message.
- 1:08:08I also asked are the winners drug tested?
- 1:08:12They also seen the message and no response.
- 1:08:14And the reason why I asked this is because typically they bring
- 1:08:19over some Kenyans and there's the 10 grand worth of prize
- 1:08:23money paid on this Perth Marathon.
- 1:08:27So the field is made-up entirely, well, largely of
- 1:08:31people from Perth and the surrounding areas in WA.
- 1:08:34Like no one really travels domestically for this.
- 1:08:37And 10 grands a lot of money to be paying out.
- 1:08:40And it's a shame that they just give that away to these second,
- 1:08:44third, fourth string Kenyans who come over and run 216 or last
- 1:08:50year the woman ran 242 to win and just go away with 10 grand
- 1:08:55with no drug test, but doesn't. There's not an accusation.
- 1:09:00But if you if you're bringing people in then and you're giving
- 1:09:05them such a large amounts of money, then it'd be nice to know
- 1:09:08that they've been drug tested, even if it was an Australian who
- 1:09:11won the race. Ryan will never be allowed into
- 1:09:14the Perth Marathon Running Festival ever again.
- 1:09:16No, it's just. It's just an observation.
- 1:09:19No, when I was trying to text them to enter it like they
- 1:09:22didn't reply to me either. I'd admin there needs some
- 1:09:24serious like communication. Go on.
- 1:09:28I didn't have any troubles getting an entry so at Perth
- 1:09:30Running Festival. I appreciate you.
- 1:09:32Thank you. Thanks for what you do.
- 1:09:36Didn't guess the red carpet rolled out from.
- 1:09:38Yeah, I entered it a day or two before the event in 2023 because
- 1:09:43they announced the prize money on the Wednesday before the race
- 1:09:48on Sunday, and I was a late entry and I looked after us.
- 1:09:52So maybe they've listened to the pod and heard the accusations
- 1:09:56around doping and wanted to stay away from any other hate.
- 1:10:00OK, I'll, I'll follow it with maybe some more context that
- 1:10:03will help soften the blow, I think.
- 1:10:06I think it's, it's fine if they bring in Kenyan people in or any
- 1:10:11other nation, people in who are going to potentially win the
- 1:10:13race and they'll pay them the prize money.
- 1:10:15But what I would like to see is an elite start list or maybe
- 1:10:18some profiling on their social media page in the league weeks
- 1:10:22leading up to the race so that you know who these people are
- 1:10:25and you at least get to see them and understand who they are
- 1:10:28prior to them being stood on the podium with the 10 grand check.
- 1:10:31Yeah, I agree. And I think, look, I will defend
- 1:10:34them. They've done a great job of
- 1:10:36building an event that showcases Perth runs like finishes inside
- 1:10:41Optus, goes in and around some scenic parts of Perth.
- 1:10:44They put it on like like streamer, like they've they've
- 1:10:48streamed it in the past. So you can actually watch
- 1:10:50there's like a lead vehicle that you know, and they they have
- 1:10:53commentary of the race races and those sorts of things.
- 1:10:56So they definitely have made attempts to sort of create quite
- 1:11:00an event and it does sell out. So I think the problem is it's
- 1:11:04probably because it's become so successful already.
- 1:11:08Maybe there's not a, a huge incentive to sort of add to some
- 1:11:11of these sorts of things. But in terms of a, a, an
- 1:11:15experience for a lot of people, like if they want to make it
- 1:11:18like a closer to a top national event, like have a look at the
- 1:11:22way the Gold Coast Marathon or even the Melbourne Marathon,
- 1:11:24like the quality of their stream and the quality and the ability
- 1:11:28to follow their event is like, is exceptionally good.
- 1:11:33And so it would be helpful that we started making steps towards
- 1:11:36that because like you say, you're sort of, you're doing a
- 1:11:38lot of the good things. It's just that, yeah, they're
- 1:11:41sort of letting themselves down by sort of not sort of releasing
- 1:11:47a late field talk, sharing links as to where you can watch the
- 1:11:51live stream from, sort of building the building a bit of
- 1:11:54hype around their event that yeah, certainly not not being
- 1:11:58great at doing that in the past. Because in in terms of size and
- 1:12:02prize money, it sets forth, according to my research on the
- 1:12:06largest marathons in Australia, behind Sydney, Melbourne, Gold
- 1:12:09Coast. It's then Perth, the head of
- 1:12:11Ballarat, Sunshine Coast and the Brisbane Marathon.
- 1:12:15And you know that those marathons who are supposedly
- 1:12:18smaller, they attract top domestic talent.
- 1:12:21So it would be nice if Perth, given the prize money that it
- 1:12:24pays, would be able to get some people over from East.
- 1:12:29But yeah. Yeah, and it's just unfortunate.
- 1:12:31I mean, the big knock and this is always the challenge with
- 1:12:34this race. So, and this is what will
- 1:12:36happen. So as Owen's talking about in
- 1:12:38terms of the Northern Hemisphere cooling off, Southern Hemisphere
- 1:12:43is warming up. And so like we're literally
- 1:12:45getting to the point now where it's all going to get quite
- 1:12:47warm. And so all of the nice running
- 1:12:50conditions are sort of ending. And so people have spent all
- 1:12:52this time running in fairly cool weather in Perth, the majority
- 1:12:56Perth people going to do the race and then they might.
- 1:12:58And what has often been the case is they get caught out a bit
- 1:13:01because cut race day. It's actually, it's just one of
- 1:13:04the first sort of warmer days. And it's noticeably like
- 1:13:07unpleasant to run in. And you then have to run slower
- 1:13:09and inevitably people don't adjust their paces too much
- 1:13:12because you want to be fairly optimistic and based on what you
- 1:13:15just did all your race pace training runs at when it was in
- 1:13:18nice weather, it was OK. So it's unfortunate.
- 1:13:21I think they're really keen on finishing inside Optus Stadium
- 1:13:25and in Perth the, you know, the premier sport is AFL and so you
- 1:13:30don't really get access to the stadium until after the footy
- 1:13:32season finishes, which was last weekend, albeit that we don't
- 1:13:35host the grand final. But it's a shame that they run
- 1:13:39it in the middle of October because it's now going to be a
- 1:13:40bit warm and, and they run it alongside, you know, it's the
- 1:13:45same day as the Melbourne Running Festival and it's three
- 1:13:48weeks after Sydney. It's like you're not going to
- 1:13:50attract, like you're, you're competing against like you said,
- 1:13:54said Ryan. Of the top four, you're
- 1:13:56competing against two of the three.
- 1:13:57In terms of timing, if you ran your event in April or May when
- 1:14:02the weather's nice and you're not competing against another
- 1:14:06marathon, you would get a a much better outcome, I reckon, both
- 1:14:09for all the participants in terms of how, how they how they
- 1:14:13race and in terms of competition.
- 1:14:16Yeah, great. On the football like use their
- 1:14:18shit at the AFL anyway so your season was over like a couple of
- 1:14:21weeks ago. Now like more Eagles, Eagles in
- 1:14:25particular, so they actually set a record for the worst win loss
- 1:14:29record in AFL, modern AFL history this year.
- 1:14:32So they won one game in like yeah and it's like 2324 rounds
- 1:14:39in a season so and but their Fremantle made their finals,
- 1:14:43they lost in the first week of finals, so they weren't too bad.
- 1:14:45So 2 WA teams for my team particularly bad, yeah.
- 1:14:49Who'd they beat? I think the team that finished
- 1:14:53second last I think is one of the other lower ranked teams.
- 1:14:56Yeah, but but we've had a lot of success.
- 1:15:01We've won a lot of premierships, so that's not Fr Fremantle.
- 1:15:05I've done the Fremantle joke, so I'll leave that for all those.
- 1:15:07Just lastly before we move on to Melbourne, so the woman who won
- 1:15:12last year freed the tow. You get to maybe you go on a
- 1:15:16World Athletics profile. So not only did you not know her
- 1:15:19ahead of the race, but you also don't know her after the race
- 1:15:23because on her profile she has the Perth Running Festival
- 1:15:27Marathon last year as their last race, which is fine.
- 1:15:30OK, that was only a year ago. Prior to that the last listed
- 1:15:33race on there is 2015. So like, who the bloody hell is
- 1:15:37this woman? I'm sure she might be back next
- 1:15:39week to get get an annual payday.
- 1:15:42Oh yeah. That was so weird, yeah.
- 1:15:45I mean, there's, there's plenty of athletes out there and then
- 1:15:49you can't know everyone and profile everyone but.
- 1:15:54Yeah, but you know them if they're Australian, wouldn't
- 1:15:56you? And you'd make sense of this
- 1:15:57story. So it's a bit of a shame.
- 1:16:00But at the same time, it's not on the, it's not all on the the
- 1:16:04race director or whoever to get domestic athletes over.
- 1:16:09Like the prize money is there. So if someone wanted to come
- 1:16:13over and try and take it, then that's entirely up to them.
- 1:16:16Yeah, but, and it's probably what what is this?
- 1:16:18What is the sell? You know, and that's where so
- 1:16:20Melbourne, Melbourne a few years ago copped a bit of hate because
- 1:16:25they were, they had some Kenyan athletes coming over and they
- 1:16:28weren't subject to the same drug testing as domestic athletes.
- 1:16:32And then the direct race director took that feedback on
- 1:16:35board and changed it. And now they have these really
- 1:16:37awesome domestic races that you really want to watch.
- 1:16:41And you've got Aussies winning good amounts of prize money and
- 1:16:44prioritising the races. So I think they've done really,
- 1:16:48really good things. It'd be.
- 1:16:49Yeah. You hope that the folks at the
- 1:16:52Perth Running Festival share a similar vision because I think
- 1:16:55that would help take their event forward too.
- 1:16:59Nice transition into Melbourne then we'll quickly fire through
- 1:17:01their field because there's there's some big names and
- 1:17:04plenty of them. So for the marathon, the women's
- 1:17:07field has got headed up potentially by Millie Clark
- 1:17:11who's the PB of 22659, followed by Sarah Klein 230.
- 1:17:17She's just come off world champs in Tokyo and Caitlin Adams
- 1:17:20making her debut who has a half marathon PB of 7026.
- 1:17:25You've then got Kate Mason, Ella Higgins, Isabel Hume amongst
- 1:17:28others. For the men you've got Jack
- 1:17:31Rayner going for back-to-back wins with the PB of 211.
- 1:17:34Japanese athlete Joe Fukunda who I think is kind of past his best
- 1:17:39now but he has run 209 a while ago.
- 1:17:45Bailey Mazeki hints who's run 225 prior but that's not an
- 1:17:50accurate reflection of his ability with a 64 half marathon.
- 1:17:53PB Fraser Darcy 217 at Sydney this year, Steve McKenna 218 at
- 1:17:59Ballarat amongst others. And then the half boys.
- 1:18:03I think the half is a lot more attractive to me personally than
- 1:18:07the actual full marathon. So for the women you've got
- 1:18:10Sinead Diver making not her literal comeback because she has
- 1:18:15raced in recent weeks, but this would be like the first kind of
- 1:18:19proper mixing it up again. So she has a half marathon PB of
- 1:18:236850 with Izzy Back Doyle, who may feel a little bit harshly
- 1:18:30done by being listed second here given she is the national record
- 1:18:33holder of 6717, followed by Jen Gregson who has APB of 70 OO 7.
- 1:18:40She just not like, after having a kid, yeah.
- 1:18:45I don't know how old the baby is but it feels like this is a
- 1:18:48quick comeback so be interesting to see how she goes that's.
- 1:18:51Crazy. Didn't I think she raced the?
- 1:18:55Was it rugby? Run.
- 1:18:57Run run Prix Melbourne 10K last week so yeah, fair.
- 1:19:00Flight, yeah. And their husband Ryan's also in
- 1:19:04the men's field, so they're going for a Gregson double.
- 1:19:08But to finish off that women's field, you've got I I don't know
- 1:19:12who this lady is. And this might just be my bad
- 1:19:15Georgie Gregorak. She's run 6913 in Berlin this
- 1:19:19year. And I don't know if I've just
- 1:19:21had my ears closed whenever her name's been mentioned, but like,
- 1:19:24I genuinely don't know who she is.
- 1:19:27And she's Australian. Run 69 minutes.
- 1:19:29Yeah, similar, yeah. So can see how she gets on
- 1:19:34because I mean I mean based on the other ladies like
- 1:19:39potentially the winning time is going to be around 6869 like she
- 1:19:44could be well in it. A quick look at her World
- 1:19:47Athletics profile says she's from New Zealand, so that might
- 1:19:49be why. We don't know.
- 1:19:51That makes sense, no. OK, Yeah.
- 1:19:54We've claimed a load of different other nationalities.
- 1:19:56So surprised. Sinead, Sinead.
- 1:20:02Divers say yeah, cutting, cutting to the bone there.
- 1:20:06You can have her. We don't want to.
- 1:20:07We don't. Want.
- 1:20:08Oh, really? Yeah.
- 1:20:11And you take, you take. Is it Sonya's daughter?
- 1:20:18Sophie. Sophie.
- 1:20:20Well, yeah. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:20:25Another one to watch boys. Jenny Blundell making her debut
- 1:20:28half. She's ran 1459 / 5 K and 3320 /
- 1:20:3310 K, so again, that suggests she may be good enough to be up
- 1:20:38there. So who who's your who's your
- 1:20:41tip? Oh, sorry, you haven't gone
- 1:20:42through the men's. You're.
- 1:20:43Going, I'll do the men's and then we'll take our picks.
- 1:20:46So again, Stewie heading up the field with a 6252 half marathon
- 1:20:51PB, but perhaps not reflective given he doesn't run all that
- 1:20:54many halves. We know what his ability is like
- 1:20:58over the shorter stuff, although he hasn't had the year he would
- 1:21:01have wanted. Followed by Brett who may
- 1:21:03similarly be feeling harshly done by being placed second on
- 1:21:07the list with being the national record holder of 5957.
- 1:21:12Then Ryan Gregson, the husband of Jen with the PB of 63 flat.
- 1:21:16I'm sure he'll be looking to break that as he has done a few
- 1:21:19times prior. Not broke it, be looking to
- 1:21:22break it. Rather have to rank Will.
- 1:21:26Not ranked but listed 4th again. I feel like he's massively
- 1:21:30underrated. Slash overlooked in Australian
- 1:21:33running. Like not that big of a deal is
- 1:21:35made of him. He's got PB of 6036, he just won
- 1:21:39the Australian National Marathon Championships at Sydney and he's
- 1:21:43a dark horse here. Want to watch?
- 1:21:46Followed by another New Zealand athlete, Toby Goldner.
- 1:21:48There's actually four or five New Zealand men in this field
- 1:21:51and then plenty of other domestic talent as well, Jacob
- 1:21:54Cox, Akfa Joni at Goddard, etcetera, etcetera.
- 1:21:58So, Dean, give us your picks. You want me?
- 1:22:01What? In all three?
- 1:22:03All four? Sorry all four.
- 1:22:09I reckon it might take 7. Minutes here and you go whilst
- 1:22:13the deliberates. I was on mute I mean.
- 1:22:17I'm going Caitlin Adams wins the marathon for the women and Jack
- 1:22:23Rainer wins that men marathon. Half marathon ladies goes to
- 1:22:27Izzy but Doyle and then the half marathon man goes to half 2.
- 1:22:34I really want Brett to win it, but I think half 2 is very good
- 1:22:40at running. You go Ron.
- 1:22:41Well, I keep thinking. You're saying if there's a line
- 1:22:45on bet 3654, I'll go with the form.
- 1:22:49The form book, the rankings of Millie Clark, Jack Rayner, Izzy
- 1:22:55Beth Doyle and I'll say breath because I feel like the 215 at
- 1:23:00Sydney may leave him a little bit fresher than have to and he
- 1:23:03might still be on the upwards trajectory.
- 1:23:06Have you heard anything about Stewie, if he's training and
- 1:23:08running or how he pulled up post that short European season?
- 1:23:12You got any scoop there? Can't give you any inside
- 1:23:15knowledge, sorry. Even if you had it, you'd
- 1:23:16probably not given it, or I haven't.
- 1:23:18Got a clue? He's been training, he's been
- 1:23:20training back in Melbourne for a couple of weeks.
- 1:23:24So yeah, I'll go. Caitlin Adams for the women's
- 1:23:29marathon own debut, Jack Rayner, Izzabeth Doyle and.
- 1:23:37Oh, I don't know, I feel like the half's quite interesting.
- 1:23:41I feel like it could be either Stewie, Brett or have to.
- 1:23:46I'll go, have to. But I But you hope Brett, you
- 1:23:50hope Brett turns it around. I feel like he's close to
- 1:23:53winning one of these. So yeah.
- 1:23:55You'll have to go have to have to have to.
- 1:23:58Have to have to play it safe. We'd have to.
- 1:24:01I think we might be running out of time based on your boys
- 1:24:04agendas here, but we'll keep going.
- 1:24:06Let us know when you need to wrap up properly.
- 1:24:09They've released the world indoor standards for Poland next
- 1:24:12year in March. They're a little bit lighter
- 1:24:14than Nanjing of this year. I think that might be because
- 1:24:17maybe there isn't major champs following it, so potentially
- 1:24:22it's not going to be as competitive or deep.
- 1:24:25There's actually no point in reading them out, reading these
- 1:24:28times out. But yeah, they've been released.
- 1:24:30So just for context, the 1500 meters is 336 for the men rather
- 1:24:35than three 3350 for Tokyo this year.
- 1:24:38So that's just an insight or a reflection into how they've
- 1:24:42softened them slightly, which is good because it gives others a
- 1:24:45chance. With Brett, he he's doing
- 1:24:50Valencia, so this will be a nice build up for him running
- 1:24:56Valencia so I'm not have to might back up as well.
- 1:25:00Would he? There's so many people doing
- 1:25:02Valencia. It's absolutely crazy, but I'm I
- 1:25:05was. Going to say home city is
- 1:25:07actually from Canberra, isn't he?
- 1:25:08But he's, he's lived in Melbourne for long enough so I'm
- 1:25:11sure he'll be wanting to do himself justice in Melbourne as
- 1:25:14well. Boys, we might have to roll the
- 1:25:16rest of these agenda items to next week and we will get on to
- 1:25:22if you got time for a YouTube Diaries me.
- 1:25:25No, I mean like I can cover it, but do you need to leave?
- 1:25:29I sort of do. Well, if I'm here now 8:45
- 1:25:35quarter past 10, I can do, I can hold on for another 15.
- 1:25:39OK, Yeah, go for it. I'll just stretch.
- 1:25:43Start doing you more, start jogging on the spot.
- 1:25:48So YouTube Diaries, I'm going to go Phil Sassman because he's
- 1:25:51recently joined the club. I don't know if you've managed
- 1:25:54to get to grips with it, but here's a bit of an overview So
- 1:25:59Phil Sessman, GB marathoner, and feel free to offer your thoughts
- 1:26:03on any part if you have watched it.
- 1:26:05So he's APB of two O 8. He ran for GB in the marathon at
- 1:26:09Paris last year and he has a half marathon PB of 6122.
- 1:26:15So he's one of GB's top distance athletes at the minute.
- 1:26:19He has very recently joined the YouTube club and he's starting
- 1:26:22to produce videos, which is second.
- 1:26:25What he's done to the first one was kind of like unsupported,
- 1:26:28just released solely by himself. And then the second one has been
- 1:26:32picked up by Koros. So they seem to be jumping all
- 1:26:35over like some of the stuff on socials and getting involved in
- 1:26:39some of the branding and the marketing, which is good.
- 1:26:42So Phil's coached by the head of Athletics at Leeds back at uni,
- 1:26:46and he also heads up the Leeds talent group, Andrew Henderson.
- 1:26:51I think he looks after a bunch of athletes in that region as
- 1:26:55well. Tian and Croker and one of the
- 1:26:57800 meter guys as one I'm sure, and there's plenty of others
- 1:27:01too. So where Phil's up to, he too
- 1:27:04shockingly is building towards Valencia along with Alex Yee.
- 1:27:09And what's interesting is he's actually targeting Amsterdam,
- 1:27:13not half Amsterdam Marathon on the 15th of October.
- 1:27:18So that'll be 7 weeks out from Valencia.
- 1:27:21And it kind of shows his confidence right now because
- 1:27:23he's hoping to run what sounds like he's pretty confident he'll
- 1:27:27be able to do it relatively easily.
- 1:27:30A small PB to take him into the Two O 7 club at Amsterdam.
- 1:27:34He what he's saying he wants to go in a little bit undercooked
- 1:27:38and then build from that into Valencia.
- 1:27:42So his first video is a double threshold day in the morning.
- 1:27:45I was, I found this quite staggering because I thought
- 1:27:49maybe in the intensity was quite high for a double threshold day.
- 1:27:52But I guess these are just paces what are comfortable for him and
- 1:27:55they look scary to me. So they've done 5 by 3K in the
- 1:27:59morning at 3 minute flat, which he said is around half marathon
- 1:28:03pace, and then in the afternoon they'd done 12 by AK AT250
- 1:28:07fives. And to be fair, in the footage
- 1:28:10he looked like he was not out of breath at all, like he wouldn't
- 1:28:15have blown a candle out. So clearly these paces are very
- 1:28:20manageable for him. But what's that?
- 1:28:22That's 27 KS worth of volume of intensity in one day.
- 1:28:26So shit, it shows. Kind of like the stuff you got
- 1:28:30out of these big double threshold days.
- 1:28:33And what's interesting I found, he said he's got a one year old,
- 1:28:35well eleven months old, she was in the first video, so she may
- 1:28:39have turned 1 by now. And he's planning his training
- 1:28:44and his season around that one year old daughter.
- 1:28:47So he's deliberately not going to altitude because he wants to
- 1:28:49be around as a father and he's kind of building the environment
- 1:28:53around himself in Leeds there. He's got an Icelandic guy, I
- 1:28:57think he was 5000m runner. He seems like good, good guy to
- 1:29:03be around, good banter and good energy.
- 1:29:06So yeah, exciting to follow Phil's journey through YouTube
- 1:29:09and see how he gets on into Amsterdam, Valencia and beyond,
- 1:29:13because I'm sure he'll be on the next couple of GB teams.
- 1:29:16Did you watch his most recent one, The Three by AK?
- 1:29:19Man, that is absolutely nuts. With Alex EA.
- 1:29:24Yeah. Yeah, that's cool.
- 1:29:26He runs. So their plan is to go like just
- 1:29:30hit 3 minutes or and then for like per AK and the session
- 1:29:34ended up being an average like 258 or 259 per kilometer.
- 1:29:38And then the floats were three fifteens, yeah.
- 1:29:41He averaged like three or two for the whole thing, yeah.
- 1:29:43For 30K, yeah. He and he looked so good, like
- 1:29:49and this chap, he's a doctor as well, so he has a PhD.
- 1:29:52So he's after putting that on the back burner and just going
- 1:29:55all in on the running and yeah, incredible.
- 1:29:58He he looks in ridiculous shape, doesn't he?
- 1:30:03Yeah, and he is also very open to his training.
- 1:30:07So if you find them on M Strava, he posts everything on his.
- 1:30:11His Instagram is also pretty good as well.
- 1:30:13He posted by food and all that sort of stuff.
- 1:30:15So yeah, he's really, really open to what he does.
- 1:30:18And he runs a lot with these dogs.
- 1:30:19Doesn't he keep chogi? And is it Pekili?
- 1:30:23What's his? What's the other?
- 1:30:24Yeah, I. Think so, Yeah, Yeah.
- 1:30:28Yeah. And sometimes they'll only take
- 1:30:30one of them out, so he'll only give one of them like a pie for
- 1:30:34a treat. The other one they have to earn
- 1:30:37their treats. But hey, yeah, he looks Sophie.
- 1:30:42I mean the, IT feels, it was interesting because again, you
- 1:30:46sort of know from afar, like racing 2 marathons within like 2
- 1:30:50months seems a bit risky. But then he's giving a bit of
- 1:30:52context as to basically what he was saying was I run some of
- 1:30:57these stuff in my long runs. Like I get so close to the fire,
- 1:31:00why not do 1 as a race if I can get a small PB, get a bit of
- 1:31:03fitness from it, recover and then go all in in a faster race
- 1:31:09later in the year. So not without its risks, but it
- 1:31:13would be really cool to follow. And it's cool that he's sharing
- 1:31:16his his insights into he sort of set his goals right.
- 1:31:19He finished 50 something in the Olympics and now wants to go top
- 1:31:2210. So that's his real motivation is
- 1:31:24he feels like he can take a step up.
- 1:31:26So yeah, cool, cool videos cool another cool like another cool
- 1:31:30person doing good content on YouTube.
- 1:31:32He's. A good looking chap as well,
- 1:31:33isn't he? Yeah, well put together.
- 1:31:36Finally, Double Trouble, which came in through the clubhouse.
- 1:31:40You've met, had a little bit of engagement with this Dean.
- 1:31:43You OK to go through it? Yeah, I'll give it a go if you
- 1:31:46like. And please like jump in and and
- 1:31:48share like correct me. But yeah, Rachel wrote in.
- 1:31:54So she's looking to share the story with us.
- 1:31:57So she's looking to qualify for the London Marathon and was
- 1:32:01trying to get into the is it championship start.
- 1:32:05And there's previously there was like set criteria around how you
- 1:32:10would go about qualifying. And she's returning from injury.
- 1:32:13So she ran 1/2 marathon with the, with the, with an eye to
- 1:32:17that being a qualifier for London and sort of went to use
- 1:32:21that. And then sort of right at the
- 1:32:23death the, the, the goal posts have moved.
- 1:32:28So like the London Marathon has sort of changed the entry
- 1:32:31standards for people looking to qualify for like to, to sort of
- 1:32:37get a championship start. And so it turns out unless
- 1:32:40you're a debutante, you don't get, you don't get the access to
- 1:32:45the using your half marathon entry standard.
- 1:32:48You have to use a marathon entry standard.
- 1:32:50So yeah, sort of two issues. One is the first issue is
- 1:32:55obviously changing the goal posts last minute.
- 1:32:57Like you sort of people are sort of people are using whatever the
- 1:33:02standards are and, and it's the same as the transparency needed
- 1:33:06for any of these World Championships and the like.
- 1:33:08People read the entry criteria, go and set themselves up to meet
- 1:33:13the standards and then race it. And then for it to be changed
- 1:33:15last minute doesn't make any sense.
- 1:33:17But then on top of that, why, which should you be?
- 1:33:21Why should there be any form of prejudice if you've actually
- 1:33:23raced a marathon in the past? It didn't doesn't make a lot of
- 1:33:26sense. Even so, the policy didn't make
- 1:33:28a lot of sense, let alone the fact that they changed at last
- 1:33:30minute. So Rachel sort of sent shared
- 1:33:33shared that with us and sort of said that she'd messaged the
- 1:33:37organisers to sort of express some disappointment around it.
- 1:33:41But then later in the week me ment mentioned on that things
- 1:33:45had changed. So I think sort of her, the
- 1:33:47first response she got was that that's just sort of not too bad,
- 1:33:52but sort of we set, we get to set the agenda and we have the
- 1:33:55right to sort of set the criteria as we see fit.
- 1:33:58But fortunately, it found its way into the right hands and
- 1:34:01someone's come to their senses and realized that that sort of
- 1:34:04doesn't make, that doesn't make a lot of sense.
- 1:34:06And they've gone back and and amended it.
- 1:34:08And so they respected the original criteria.
- 1:34:11And so I think Rachel and whoever else were that were
- 1:34:14looking to to get in and the same way are now able to get in.
- 1:34:17So yeah, a good double trouble in as far as like what they did,
- 1:34:23and that's not unusual. I've sort of seen similar
- 1:34:26situations in the past of changing of events, changing
- 1:34:31criteria for qualifying late in the pace, which is unfair
- 1:34:35towards athletes. But nice to know that, you know,
- 1:34:40sometimes it doesn't always is the case, like with your emails
- 1:34:43to British Athletics, Ryan, They're not always actioned, but
- 1:34:48nice to know that at least sometimes they are.
- 1:34:50And maybe gives us some hope that if you if we are in a
- 1:34:53similar situation in the in in the future, that perhaps a a
- 1:34:57polite e-mail framed in the right way might be read by the
- 1:35:00right person and lead to good positive change.
- 1:35:04Yeah, very well said. And I think that's the major
- 1:35:07part, isn't it? No, gone.
- 1:35:08I was ongoing a different double trouble.
- 1:35:10Keep on going. I'll, I'll wrap up quickly so we
- 1:35:12can get it because I'm sure it's, it's going to be a good
- 1:35:14one. Yeah.
- 1:35:16It's encouraging, isn't it, that if you do have these grunt laws
- 1:35:19and, and you, you're not happy with things that you can
- 1:35:22eventually lead to change? Because I think Rachel said
- 1:35:24maybe there was a few other people in the same position and
- 1:35:27maybe they'd see in an influx of not necessarily complaints, but
- 1:35:31queries and they've just not to congratulate them for doing the
- 1:35:35right thing, but they have gone ahead and reversed that
- 1:35:38decision. So yeah, good outcome.
- 1:35:41So like leave the for next week or do you want to do it this?
- 1:35:44Week, don't tease us like that. So I was looking at just running
- 1:35:50gear and I came across do you know the brands soar?
- 1:35:54Yeah. And guys, the prices they are
- 1:35:59charging people is actually like downright like not OK.
- 1:36:04Like there's a pair of running shorts on that and they're like
- 1:36:09euro. I can't imagine what the price
- 1:36:11is in freaking dollar, but it's they're charging like 300 four
- 1:36:16€100 for half tights and running shorts.
- 1:36:19I'm like, I don't care if they knock 10 minutes off your time
- 1:36:23charging that much for like a piece of material.
- 1:36:26Like it's, it's just downright bad.
- 1:36:29Like 600 six €100 for a running jacket.
- 1:36:32Huh. Did you ever see the like and
- 1:36:35actually get away with it? Like people actually spend money
- 1:36:37on this shit? No, it's totally wrong.
- 1:36:39Like seeing that for £200 like again, no matter what material
- 1:36:45it is they are, it's actually wrong and I feel like we should
- 1:36:48like cancel them. We so have partnered with other
- 1:36:53running podcasts in the past if you are interested, so please
- 1:36:57write in. If you can provide the listeners
- 1:37:00with an appropriate discount code, I'm sure we can spin this
- 1:37:03so that the quality proceed outweighs the cost.
- 1:37:06I actually, I actually don't think I called morally like
- 1:37:10promote this brand. It's so so wrong.
- 1:37:13Evidently now the kind of podcast now so.
- 1:37:17No we don't need them, £290.00 for a pair of half tights guys.
- 1:37:23He might be doing us a favor and that is he's isolating all the
- 1:37:27other brands so that they might be leaned towards us.
- 1:37:31Yeah, exactly. Crazy.
- 1:37:32It's crazy stuff and I just thought I'd to bring it up like
- 1:37:36a jacket for 600. Have you ever had any any sore
- 1:37:39stuff? I actually would refuse to buy
- 1:37:41it even if yeah now. You know what's funny, to be
- 1:37:43fair, last year at some point they've done this challenge
- 1:37:46where it was like run 100K in the month and you get £80
- 1:37:50voucher to spend on the store, stores saw store or something.
- 1:37:54And loads of the fellows who I'm in the group chat with from
- 1:37:57home, we're like striving towards it.
- 1:37:59And then it's not till the end when you get the voucher and
- 1:38:01then they went to the store and it's like fucking hell, it's
- 1:38:04still going to cost me like over £100 to get a pair of shots and.
- 1:38:11They're doing this thing, oh, marathon PB reward, where if you
- 1:38:14get a marathon and you can prove you got PB, you get 50 LB off 50
- 1:38:19LB. Like I said, I'll buy you one
- 1:38:22single sock from there. Shit.
- 1:38:25Oh sign up for 10% off your first order.
- 1:38:29Like get a grip your lot. No sorry, good luck.
- 1:38:32Free shipping to Ireland if you spend over €230 could get a
- 1:38:38flight over there and you could get a flight to in mainland
- 1:38:42Europe for Jibra. Do this.
- 1:38:45Speaking I was no, I don't know if I want to poke the beer
- 1:38:49anymore, but in terms of quality products, do we want to?
- 1:38:52Is now a good time to talk about the treadmill?
- 1:38:54Or yeah, my treadmill broke again guys.
- 1:38:56So I'm getting I'm getting a refund before I lose a lot of
- 1:39:00money. Yeah, not.
- 1:39:08If it was a sore treadmill, you wouldn't be having these
- 1:39:10problems. Wouldn't be able to afford it.
- 1:39:15Kidney or something? Yeah, that's so good.
- 1:39:19Anyway I. Have to go for a run.
- 1:39:22Run, run All that frustration out, that sort of frustration.
- 1:39:25That marks an outreach e-mail. We were draft an update and
- 1:39:28we'll just remove store from. The recipients.
- 1:39:31No, no. We got to stand for, got to
- 1:39:34stand for something. We appreciate it.
- 1:39:36It's a good double trouble. Going to call a spade a spade
- 1:39:38down. Yeah, like a sore hat would set
- 1:39:41you back $150.00 where if you buy an easy double hat, same.
- 1:39:47Probably £15. Well, seen as you mention it,
- 1:39:51and I'm not just saying this that we genuinely do only have
- 1:39:54like a very small quantity. So if you're interested, just
- 1:39:58make sure you you get one because I'm not just trying to
- 1:40:01say this to like build up hype and pheromone all this.
- 1:40:04They just probably won't be any soon.
- 1:40:08So thanks again, everyone. We'll be back next week and
- 1:40:10we'll bring double troubles and we'll go again.
- 1:40:13All right, see you guys. Good luck.
- 1:41:31The.
