- 0:46World series. Yeah, the UH Congress finally has themselves a speaker for now.
- 0:58Yeah, exactly, it might be we might we might be a new
- 1:00one in thirty days. We'll see. It's it's we'll see so much going
- 1:07on in the world, most of which we will not discuss in here because
- 1:11that would be sad and demoralizing and everything that this Treehouse stands against. Absolutely
- 1:21we stand for. Stupid. Friday episode of the Treehouse Podcast is the beacon
- 1:26in the field of Stupid. Which is a great time to mention to you
- 1:33our friends at the Dallas Comedy Club who are so gracious to sponsor this year

- 2:16Club dot com. I have to admit to you, guys, I'm still
- 2:23tired. It's been a week for me trying to figure out housing situations and
- 2:34me thrusting all the packing duties and things of moving onto my wife because I
- 2:39have been knee deep in producing editing right and all this stuff for the Halloween
- 2:45special I've been. I was doing it almost NonStop from Saturday through like Wednesday
- 2:53morning. Wow. It was interesting one because it's challenging, but it's also
- 3:05interesting because as much as I could complain about how long it took and finding
- 3:09sound effects for things, which Trey thank you for helping me find so many
- 3:14of them, but you can never have enough when you're doing an audio production.
- 3:21See Hollywood, they can get away television movies, they can get away
- 3:24with more things. Because it's visual. You don't have to have the sound
- 3:30for everything. When you're doing a special or a program that is audio based,
- 3:37you have to find the sound for everything. Otherwise it's just someone telling
- 3:39you something and that's not fun or interesting. And I'm sure and I know
- 3:47you and like you listen to one hundred different footsteps on a floor before you
- 3:55found the right one. See, I want to say you don't know me,
- 4:04but the truth is I have. I now know every possible folded footstep
- 4:11in production libraries, in every corner of the Internet. Yes, I know
- 4:15the file names to give you for seeing like a hard soul shoes on hardwood,
- 4:23Okay. I know where to point you in the direction to find cowboy
- 4:28boots going through grass. Interesting. I even because we have Jerry Caldwell in
- 4:33the Halloween special. I also know where to find Stiletto's running on cement in
- 4:40a production libraries somewhere. I also know all the different places of the Internet
- 4:46to go to to find splash noises, but not just any splash, because
- 4:51I need specifically not splash of things going into the water. There was at
- 4:56least three instances where I needed sound effects for some one or something coming out
- 5:00of the water. Those are really hard to find. Now are there specific
- 5:05ones? Like flawing? Flailing is not a good search term when you're searching
- 5:12for production stuff. The good news is I have experienced doing this. So
- 5:15when twenty five years working in radio and doing these Halloween or Christmas specials that
- 5:19we've done throughout the years doing radio production in general, you you learn how
- 5:26to search for things. And because of that, when you find a library,
- 5:30especially online or a computer based you know the words to use, like
- 5:33slip and fall or if you need if you need something to sound like,
- 5:38you know it's it's really descriptive words. I needed to find blood splatter,
- 5:42not splat splatter, gotch I needed. I need to find bones crunching and
- 5:46breaking. But I also know that when you go and look up these sounds
- 5:51in these libraries, it'll be the sound, but it's not the sound you
- 5:57want. I'll give you a good example in the special. I tell you
- 6:00to grab a machete off the edge of the boat and hit whiskey barrels so
- 6:03liquid can spew forth. M H. I couldn't quite find the exact thing
- 6:11I was looking for for the whiskey to spew out of the barrels. Gotcha,
- 6:15But I found plenty of what they're called impact. Like if you're searching
- 6:19a production library, you want a sword impact wood, Okay, gotcha,
- 6:25gotcha. The problem is when you go and find it, this is what
- 6:28it sounds like. Oh that sucks when you're doing the thing and you're like,
- 6:32that doesn't sound cool. That's why a lot of times in films they
- 6:36have these cool noises that they have to absolutely just create. Like all the
- 6:41cool stuff in Star Wars, all those things was the folly Department, the
- 6:45follyings where it's the guys that create sound. They would just go find things
- 6:49and create them, and that now becomes Star Wars sound effects. Those things
- 6:56did not exist beforehand. They just went basically, they went outside, they
- 6:59went to garage just they stuck their fingers and light sockets, They licked power
- 7:02lines and shook metal sheets and things. They created those noises. And so
- 7:06when you find the real noise of the thing that you're looking for, it
- 7:12typically sucks. So it has to be bigger and bolder, and sorry,
- 7:15I'm going on way too long about audio production on a podcast that's supposed to
- 7:18be entertaining for people. No, it's like I mean, one of the
- 7:23best examples is Darth Vader breathing is scuba gear. Ah gotcha, mh.
- 7:30They searched high and low and then came upon that, I know. Bones
- 7:35breaking. Sometimes they'll they'll just take a celery, like a couple of sticks
- 7:40of celery or stocks of celery, and a lot of times in bones breaking
- 7:44is one of my favorite examples of this. Where you go and look up
- 7:47a sound and you get the things as bones breaking, and it sounds weak.
- 7:51It doesn't sound as loud and dangerous as it needs to be. So
- 7:56instead of looking up a bone break, you should then go and find like
- 8:00a redwood snapping in half. That's the sound you want. Oh yeah,
- 8:03that's good. Yeah. So you have to learn, you have to kind
- 8:07of figure out how to how to navigate those waters, kind of like the
- 8:11three of Us did in the Halloween Special twenty twenty three, Three of us
- 8:16on a boat, no hose. Maybe maybe maybe we can write the hose
- 8:22in for the sequel Gewel's Two Boats and Hose. So anyway, I feel
- 8:35like I have earned this Friday. We all have because we did a lot
- 8:39of work. We put a lot of work into that special. I will
- 8:43say that this Halloween special that we have done is truly, truly special.
- 8:54It's extra stupid and the most terrifying thing in it is, without a doubt,
- 8:58our acting. Yeah, I've never I've never done voiceover stuff, so
- 9:05that was kind of fun for me. You're very You're a very good director.
- 9:09I will say that, thank you. You're very good at giving direction
- 9:11on how you want the lines read and done, so that was kind of
- 9:16cool to do. And so I don't know if I can put this on
- 9:20I have to listen to it. I don't know if I'll put it on
- 9:22my on my resume as having done radio voiceover stuff. But I'm just glad
- 9:30that there's no well no, the writer's strike is over, but this,
- 9:33but the actors strike is still going on. I might be careful promoting it
- 9:37too much, Raj, because I don't want you getting in trouble with the
- 9:39union, because that would actually make our production kind of a scab thing,
- 9:43and it's not meant to be. Yeah, No, I don't I don't
- 9:46think it would be. I don't think it I don't think it would be.
- 9:48I'll have to have to actually look at the rules now that you brought
- 9:52that up. While you're reaching, I have to know the rule of clarification.
- 9:56Yeah, the rules on that are so arcane and weird like us.
- 10:01Well they are because there's exemptions for like Saturday Night Live, for the late
- 10:05night shows. There's there's all these exemptions like why with the writers now backworking
- 10:11they can do late night shows and all this other stuff, and it is
- 10:16so I was listening to someone to explain all the different rules and fascinating how
- 10:22they've done that. Yeah, but I joined the I believe because I joined
- 10:26the show before the strike. I believe, right before the strike went official.
- 10:31I think I would like if I needed to get an exemption, I
- 10:35could. I don't think you need it, but yeah, because technically it's
- 10:39like if you're a variety show like kind of like this, then you're you're
- 10:43exempt. Yeah, as long as you're not promoting something else that would be
- 10:48embargoed by SAGO is why, which is why when we had our buddy tone
- 10:54Bell on, he did not promote the Netflix show Surival of the Thickest Thickest.
- 11:00Yeah, he didn't promote that because he was not allowed to. That
- 11:03doesn't mean we couldn't, right, But now it goes even as far as
- 11:07for Halloween, Sag sent out of things saying not to dress up as any
- 11:11of the characters on any of the Stricken shows. Okay, God, because
- 11:18that's technically promoting a show that's on strength. It's it's very weird. But
- 11:24if I wanted to dress up as, you know, a character from a
- 11:28TV show from years ago that's not currently in production, I would correct,
- 11:31not me, but you would be okay, I would be all right,
- 11:33gotcha? Yeah. But if I were to go as Tone Bell uh Survival
- 11:39of the Thickest, I'd get in trouble. I'd like to see you in
- 11:43that, in those in those costumes with that hair. Me too. I'd
- 11:50rather see Trey, but I don't want him getting But it wouldn't be by
- 11:56Sag. Oh No, that'd be a completely different organization, all right.
- 12:03As I mentioned, today is bed Day, October twenty seven, twenty three.
- 12:09Time for birthdays he plays or played. I'm not sure if it's on
- 12:13right now or not. Barry Goldberg on ABC's The Goldbergs, that is Troy
- 12:18Genteel. He is thirty today. It's one of those shows I've always heard
- 12:22really good things about, but I just have not watched it. Yeah,
- 12:28it's a good show watch. I think Jeff Garland is the dad. I
- 12:33believe. Ye. I've known Jeff for a few years. He's a solid
- 12:35dude. And then my buddy Brian Kallen, I believe was got the offshoot
- 12:41of it. There wasn't. I think there was a spinoff. They got
- 12:43canceled. I think when he got I think he might have gotten me too.
- 12:48I don't remember. We don't really talk anymore, but he was the
- 12:50jym, the gym teacher. I believe it's a very funny spoof of the
- 12:56eighties, and I think maybe what we should do is start up in actual
- 13:00sitcom and just call it Raj's Friends. That would be fun. That would
- 13:05that would be a good That would be a good show. I don't know
- 13:07what. I don't know what anybody would do in it, but it'd be
- 13:11a good show. It'd be a very funny show to watch. Well,
- 13:13it'd be a change of pace for once they consider I do and tell stories
- 13:16about you. Yeah, it'd be not it'll be all like the people.
- 13:20That would be on that show would be we could just call none of these
- 13:22guys got me too. Everyone's appropriate. I have to I have to ask,
- 13:28what is what is tud me too? The whole me too movement?
- 13:33Oh oh okay, it sounds like you were saying that got me You said
- 13:39got me Tooed, I thought you meant like you was in me, not
- 13:41me too, like you you move bad, bad things to women type stuff.
- 13:46Yeah, I feel like it needs to have a different uh term for
- 13:50it, because obviously it's confusing. Have you been me too? Me too?
- 13:56Well? The Eddie Yift has a very funny bit about this where he
- 13:58talks about the hashtag me too, and he's like, that's great, and
- 14:03I'm glad of you know, you got to have the hashtag goes. But
- 14:05my generation that was the pound symbol, so that looks terrible. So yeah,
- 14:13yeah, yeah, but it'd also be a yeah, the whole show
- 14:16would be a bunch of guys that appropriate with people. I don't know what
- 14:20the show would be called nobody took their junk out on camera or whatever in
- 14:26the text, I don't know, but yeah, no, it's a very
- 14:31funny spin off of the eighties. I think it was it's really well done.
- 14:35Other birthdays today, Ozzy Osbourne's daughter Kelly is thirty nine, not the
- 14:39other one. I forget the other daughter's name. There was another daughter who
- 14:43actually was not on the Osbourne She wanted nothing to do with it. She's
- 14:46one of those people that if you go back and watch those shows if they're
- 14:50available somewhere, she's the one typically blurred out the background. Amy Amy,
- 14:54Amy Osborne, Thank you. Patrick Fugit is forty one today. He is
- 15:01from the Cinemax horror series Outcast, but I think we all mostly know him
- 15:05from Almost Famous, played Young Will and Almost Famous. He was also the
- 15:11cop who hated Ben Affleck and Gone Girl, which is understandable. There's something
- 15:16else he was into, but I'm drawing a blank on on what it was.
- 15:20But he's still going not as I mean, it's hard to top,
- 15:24you know, that role in Almost Famous, but he's still going. So
- 15:26good for him, And we didn't get a chance to really celebrate it a
- 15:31whole lot because we're not all together at the same time. Raj, how
- 15:33was your birthday there? It was really nice, man. I had a
- 15:37very very good day. I had a nice breakfast, solid lunch and just
- 15:43kind of did what I wanted to do. And is it a nice when
- 15:46you get that one day a year? Yeah, I mean, I just
- 15:50you know, I was telling my girlfriend this, it's like birthdays for first
- 15:54generation Indian kids, it just depended like like some some have like rate amazing
- 16:00experiences with like bouncy houses and whatever. Like my like the birthdays in India
- 16:07for them, like weren't a big deal in India, like when in your
- 16:10teenage and young adult, like you take your first like you the birthday person,
- 16:15You treat your friends out. They don't buy anything for you, So
- 16:19it just was never a big deal. And like I have, I have
- 16:23a couple of pictures where you could see the saddest like just people around the
- 16:29table and it was like there's one where it's just a sheet like the cake
- 16:33that you would get at tom Thumb that they already had made. They just
- 16:36had to do the writing on it. And this was like there's a Batman
- 16:40and a Ramen and I think it just hit Marvel on the other side of
- 16:42the cake for no apparent reason, like and then it goes like Wolverine whatever,
- 16:48and everybody around the table, like three people are crying and I'm the
- 16:52only one smiling, and I was like, that's my birthday. That's what
- 16:55I remember it being, and like I wanted to invite as many of my
- 17:00classmates as I could to come over, because nobody in my family knew the
- 17:04words to the Happy Birthday. They just kept singing you, Happy birthday to
- 17:10you, and that's all. It would be, like, there's no diarage,
- 17:14there's no there's no pitch. That's just and it would just go on.
- 17:17And at one point, I'm just like, I got to blow these
- 17:18candles out, and this could go on for an hour, and even that's
- 17:22when I knew I was funny. I'm like, I just want to see
- 17:25how long I could keep this going without blowing out any candles and happy but
- 17:30just over and over and over again. After about two minutes, I was
- 17:33like, Okay, I gotta love candles out. So I'm definitely the opposite.
- 17:37I don't enjoy being the center of attention for unwarranted purposes. So I've
- 17:42disliked birthdays ever since my first one. I cried and screamed when they were
- 17:47singing Happy Birthday all the way up to and including my nineteenth or twentieth birthday,
- 17:52where my family took me to Texas Roadhouse, okay, or for lunch
- 17:59and I hidden bathroom for about forty five minutes to avoid the napkin dance.
- 18:03Oh gotcha? Okay? Yeah, And every every event in our family was
- 18:08at El Phoenix. So birthday, anniversary, anything anybody was celebrating, it
- 18:15was El Phoenix because that was the only place my vegetarian father could eat.
- 18:19And I kind of assumed that your dad would have taken you to Taco Bell,
- 18:22given how that was. That was the that was the high end version
- 18:26of Taco Bell, And so the conversation would just be like, it's your
- 18:30birthday, where do you want to eat? And I'm like, let's just
- 18:33try somewhere new, okay, whatever do you want? And I'm like,
- 18:36all right, let's go. Let's try this new place. You know PF
- 18:40Chang. It's like, what do your father eat that? And I'm like,
- 18:42how about El Phoenix? Yeah, if you want to, okay.
- 18:48I've always felt bad for Tray though, because on his birthday, I think
- 18:51he has to share the he has to share the cake with Belt. It
- 18:57actually Belt gives me a piece. Visit us online at Treehouse on air dot

- 20:04Is that phone number that you are going to need to contact Rodney And the
- 20:07website is, of course, Rodney Anderson dot Com. Now, Rodney,
- 20:11you and I have talked for decades now, and you've taught me a lot
- 20:15in that time, and I appreciate it. And one of the things that
- 20:18you have told me is that there is actually a specific date that is the
- 20:22best day to buy a house. Can you do me a favor and give
- 20:26me a refresher on that explain that for us? Yeah, according to the
- 20:29National Association Realtors, after decades and decades of researching and all their information,
- 20:36they say October fifteenth, right around the corner here is the best day to
- 20:38buy a house. Why because many people haven't filed their taxes yet. All
- 20:42the CPAs are packed right now. Realtors are trying to file their last minute
- 20:48taxes. Many people are out there going, I haven't done my taxes yet.
- 20:52I need to get them done. So what happens is that means less
- 20:55people are out there looking at homes. The best day to buy a house
- 20:57is October fifteenth because that's when sellers will discount their houses more. And right
- 21:03now some houses are going very fast. Some houses are sitting on the market
- 21:07right now. And Dan, you've got to use a great realtor to know
- 21:11what the what the ins and outs are. And we just recommend to people
- 21:14pick up the phone and give us a call because you must be preapproved unless
- 21:18you're paying cash. You must be preapproved because the seller want to know are
- 21:22you for real? And you need to know, Hey, how much am
- 21:23I going to qualify for? What's my payments look like? And everything that
- 21:27goes into that. And Rodney and his team been doing this now for over
- 21:30forty years, so he knows how to get it done quickly and make sure
- 21:34you're in that house at the exact right time. So give him and his

- 22:52done, so now let's get into some really, really seriously stupid things because
- 23:00already had fun searching this week. I just imagine Trey working at the bar
- 23:06and he's just probably being spoken to by a twenty two year old. He
- 23:10just like uh uh hunh, pulls his phone out and just starts doing show
- 23:12prep. Not far from it, although I did have a fascinating experience on
- 23:22Monday Night. What was that a woman and who looked exactly and sounded like
- 23:32Gene casem If you don't know who that is, google it if she was
- 23:37the epitone of Ditzy Blonde in eighties and nineties sitcoms. She was on Cheers,
- 23:41she played Carla's ex wife, Yes, and a bunch of others.
- 23:47She was on Night Cored, a bunch of other stuff. So this one
- 23:49was at the bar, and she was very drunk, and she pulled her
- 23:55boob out and esquirted the guy next to her with breast milk. I'm sorry,
- 24:02and he liked it. And although I have asked everyone in the you
- 24:07know, service industry, you see a lot of weird stuff, and that
- 24:10tops everything. But and that guy was like, that didn't happen to me.
- 24:14Since I was in the strip club in Houston ten years ago, It's
- 24:17like, oh my, wow, Wow, that is a lot to unpack.
- 24:19I have many questions. Okay, first of all, I've known Houston
- 24:26is dirty, but I didn't know that. Second of all, did this
- 24:33guy know the lady before she started him with the breast milk? No?
- 24:36So they had was that how they So that's how they met. Yeah,
- 24:41she was with I have boyfriend, husband whatever, and yeah, no,
- 24:48okay, all right. My third question is how I mean she you know,
- 24:53pulled her boob out and squeezed her nipple and out came milk. A
- 24:57poor question on my part, like to amend yep, I second that motion.
- 25:04Three B why I I I my sense of drunk people for a long
- 25:12time ago, so I get that, But I mean, like, was
- 25:17she doing it because like, let's go through the emotions. Was she doing
- 25:19it because she was happy? Because she was mad? Funny? She was
- 25:26happy? She was she had been at another table singing the famous two Live
- 25:33Crew song and then somehow talking to this guy. I I do not know
- 25:41the the ins and outs of the conversation, and I just know the end
- 25:44result. So I I there's a lot of gray area. I I have
- 25:47to and and what leads one to that point? I do not know?
- 25:52Yeh? Does I mean it's like like you said it? I mean,
- 25:55was she so excited about the Rangers going to the World Series that that was
- 25:57the way she could express her sol was by exposing her her breast and spice
- 26:02breast? He actually, yeah? I Or did the guy next to her
- 26:10say something really insulting and instead of shooting with a gun, she shot him
- 26:14with a boob? No, it wasn't done out of out of anger.
- 26:17Right now there so it I I don't know if it was flirtation. I
- 26:22don't know if she and her boyfriend husband or swing, I don't know.
- 26:26I don't know if that has worked for them in the past. I'd like
- 26:30to I'd like to, I'd like to amend Dan's three B and mine uh
- 26:36thirty six d uh fittings? Do you then uh? For future uh?
- 26:48For future guests? Patrons? I guess do you do you ban this person
- 26:55because she didn't technically hurt anybody. Everyone seemed to enjoy you better not,
- 27:00because there are there are factions in this world that if you wrong one,
- 27:07you have wronged them all. One is cyclists. If you say something bad
- 27:12or making off joke about a cyclist getting heard or something like that, they
- 27:17will come out and droves to get you. Another one is breastfeeding. The
- 27:22breastfeeders of America will defend their rights and privileges and all those things here too
- 27:29within to breastfeed, how when, where, who? Whatever they see fit?
- 27:33Well? Two things if I'm if I do offend cyclist, which I
- 27:37have, uh, and there's way too many Lance Armstrong one ball jokes that
- 27:42if they did come I feel like there's enough of those. Yeah. But
- 27:47like if they did come out and droves, I would, I would,
- 27:49I would get away from them. But banking hard left and no too,
- 27:56she wasn't breastfeeding somebody technically that could have That could be that if that guy
- 28:02didn't find it funny, Depending on a phobia or whatever, or a religion
- 28:07or whatever. He could have found that harmful and or offensive. So she
- 28:11was curious to ask a police officer if that would be considered assault assault right,
- 28:18I don't know, but it would, like I guess, I guess
- 28:19at that point, it just depends on the recipient. If if he stumbs
- 28:22up, you're cool. But if he stumbs down, you might be going
- 28:25to jail. Do you do you or do you walk up to that lady?
- 28:26And as the manager, Trey, do you walk up and go excuse
- 28:30me, no outside food or drink? T looks down on that. Yeah,
- 28:41what do you say in that moment? I stuned just you you you
- 28:49need to leave? I think I think you nailed this answer right there.
- 28:52Yeah, we were all. It was so dumbfounding that it took. Luckily
- 29:00we had a security guy there who escorted her out, and she really didn't
- 29:06want to go. She didn't really think she had done anything wrong. And
- 29:07like I said, the recipient, he thought it was great. I think
- 29:14most people would not put me on the side of I would not be happy
- 29:18to get scorted in the face by the breast milk, especially straight from the
- 29:22source. That's when you that's a that's a hard day to find out you're
- 29:25lactose intolerant? Is that? Is that what the breastfeeding community calls people that
- 29:38disliked them. Guess they're just lactose intolerant. I hate you for having said
- 29:47that. I'm sorry. Are you lactose intolerance? Is that what it is?

- 32:02If you find yourself in the situation like I'm in right now where I'm
- 32:07under contract to sell my home in Dallas, you want someone on your side
- 32:10who will absolutely scare the Bejesus out of the other side's real estate agent.
- 32:15And that's kind of what you've done, Jacqueline. Good job. Yeah,
- 32:19they came to you and they said, hey, there's a sewer leak,
- 32:21and I said, I would love to know how they know that. The
- 32:23only way to really really know in this case would be to get in the
- 32:27crawl space, lay on your back, and have somebody upstairs on ground level
- 32:30running all the fixtures invert visually identifying a leak. But I just had Oliver
- 32:36at your house. We know it wasn't leaking, and I'm one hundred percent
- 32:39all about calling the bluff. We'd love to know where your party is identifying
- 32:44the leaks at. Even more, we'd like pictures, and I'd like to
- 32:45know their license number, because I one hundred percent think that it's just like
- 32:51a handyman or a general contractor throwing things out there to drive the price down
- 32:54again. That's that's their problem, not yours. If they don't like the
- 32:58price, they shouldn't have made an offer at the price that they were willing
- 33:00to go to. They're looking to pigeonhole you into bringing the price tag down,
- 33:04and as far as plumbing goes, we're not going to allow that to
- 33:06happen. And as my understanding goes, Daniel Cook is not going to allow
- 33:08that to happen on your roof either. You want good people on your side

- 34:31I plug something real fast? I'm just just based on the content so far
- 34:38of today's show with the breast Milk and all the apps play from the football
- 34:43podcast yesterday, I'm just a little wary of your verb. On Saturday,
- 34:50I will be in front of Big Al's down the Hatch and Downtown Walks a
- 34:54Hatchie for the Bob Phillops Texas Country Reporter Festival. So if you down that
- 35:00way, please come say hi, buy a beer shot whatever. He has
- 35:04a festival I mean Al, I mean I mean Bob Phillips. Yes,
- 35:08every year and it draws like thousands and thousands of people. It's really Yes.
- 35:15I thought it was a joke at first when I went down there last
- 35:19year because Al's wife is my best friend Amy, and and you're talking about
- 35:22Al from Cratick Show, from cratic Show, Big Al. And the only
- 35:25reason I say that is because while Big Al, I think is better known
- 35:29there, there was a second Big Al that used to have a Hamburger place
- 35:32in North Arlington. When I was there. The difference there was he was
- 35:39not actually big and he also was not black. But uh so, yeah,
- 35:46it's amazing and it's it's actually entertaining. I mean, they have the
- 35:51food is really good. They bring their food trucks from all over and surprisingly,
- 35:55like I said, thousands of people go down there for it. So
- 35:58what are they dude? They have music all day and there's all sorts of
- 36:06I mean, think about it. I'm sure we're aging ourselves talking. I
- 36:09mean, although it's still on Texas Country reporter Bob Phillips went around the state
- 36:14and like a little magazine show highlighting people who did you know, arts and
- 36:17craftsy things and this and that. So yeah, it's a bunch of people
- 36:21that make everything from you know, trinkets and metalworks and so shirts clothing,
- 36:28all, pretty much anything you can think of. Not get I give that
- 36:31guy credit me. He turned an entire career after just going around and asking
- 36:36people, what do you do? The DQ guy, right, that's who
- 36:38we're talking about. Yes, at a long time, At one time he
- 36:43was. He was the guy before the two guys that, for whatever reason,
- 36:49spurned controversy because they seem like some people thought they were gay or something.
- 36:52But no, yeah, Bob Phillips came before those guys, even though
- 36:54I actually liked those cords. Okay, I think I remember this guy.
- 36:59It just goes to like mom and pop shops or whatever likes. He's like
- 37:02the diners, drivings and knives before guy, fiery kind of thing. Yeah
- 37:07what I remember? Yeah right, yeah, no, no, you've got
- 37:10it. You've absolutely got it. Yeah, he's got a festival. Uh
- 37:15huh wow that is and and and thousands of people. You say, it
- 37:21really makes you think that anything truly is possible, Like maybe one day we
- 37:25could have a festival. We I think we need to address this now.
- 37:30Uh that this time, this time next year, we need to have a
- 37:35festival. Oh okay, good, I thought you were saying this time next
- 37:38year. Maybe we'll be big enough that we could have a booth at Bob
- 37:40Phillips Festival. Oh I'm sorry, Should we just maybe step this one?
- 37:47I don't know, I don't know how much, don't know how much the
- 37:52boots cost. But yeah, okay, let's uh well then uh yeah,
- 37:57we should. We have to figure out how to have our own festival.
- 38:00That will Where do we have downtown? Where where is downtown Treehouse? Where
- 38:04would that man? He's got walks of Hatchie on lock? Apparently so it's
- 38:09already been done. We can't. I don't want to step on Phillips's hood,
- 38:14on his territory. I don't want The last thing we want is to
- 38:15have a turf war with a country reporter. Yeah that's right. I don't
- 38:20want to get bitch slap with a steak finger basket for two on two reasons.
- 38:28It'd be hot and how insulting for Inn't it? All right? We'll
- 38:35get together some ideas, we'll brainstorm. We'll come up at the Treehouse festival.
- 38:38Really, all you need to have a festival is like a couple of
- 38:40booths and and we'll get Fletcher's corny dogs there. Everybody be happy. We'll
- 38:45pull up in a clown car. Now it's a speaking of parties. Maybe
- 39:01something we could have at our Treehouse Podcast festival. Maybe we could have a
- 39:12taste testing of the brand new Pepper X, which is now the hottest hot
- 39:17pepper in the world. The guy that made it broke his own Guinness Heat
- 39:22record for making the Pepper X. Okay, so this is the same guy
- 39:29that gave us the Carolina Reaper. Right, he decided that's not good enough.
- 39:35I have not maimed nearly enough people in my life that I need to
- 39:38still concoct hotter peppers. His name is ed Currie, South Carolina hot pepper
- 39:45expert who crossbred and grew the Carolina Reaper that is hotter than most pepper sprays
- 39:51that police use to subdue other festivals. He has broken his own world record
- 39:58with a pepper that is three times times hotter than the Carolina Reaper. Wow,
- 40:04why, I don't know. This is one of those times where I'm
- 40:08I think back on the line that Jeff Goldbloom had in Jurassic Park, where
- 40:14scientists are so worried about whether or not they could they didn't stop and ask
- 40:17if they should. Uh yeah, what what do you what? Do you
- 40:24use it for? Like Indian food hat is very spicy, like we use
- 40:29the Serrano, we use ghost pepper, things like that, Like, uh,
- 40:32what do you what would you use this in? What is the I
- 40:36always assume that the spices that Indians put in their food was to get their
- 40:42culinary was to get revenge on the English eating their food. Yes, that
- 40:47was kind of my assumption as to where it started. By saying to these
- 40:52to these English people, who are you know, taking over their land and
- 40:53you know, all these terrible things to the to the to the Indian people
- 40:58like oh yeah, this is this is normal to us. Here you eat
- 41:00this the next thing on the ground, crying their way back to London.
- 41:04Yes, but then they also were like when they got back to London found
- 41:07themselves missing it. So they were like, hey can you come here too,
- 41:09And we're like that was part of the plant. Now Ptail is the
- 41:15number one surname in all of the UK. Yeah. So as far as
- 41:21the purpose of this pepper, I think it's other than just for me to
- 41:24alliterate unnecessarily. It has a lot to do with this guy just trying to
- 41:29outdo himself because you know what people will say especially when it comes to motivational
- 41:34things. Your only competition is with yourself. Don't worry about what anybody else
- 41:37is doing. You just measure your health against yourself and that's all you need.
- 41:42And that's that's that's actually driving this guy to two insane amounts of heat.
- 41:49Yeah, you're feeling your You're feeling your Indian vibe dan because that's a
- 41:52Hindu proverb. There's no uh, there's no nobility in being superior to another
- 41:55person. True nobility is being superior to yourself, your former self. I
- 42:00agree with that. Yeah, I'm digging this. I can. I had
- 42:05I've had ghost pepper and I had a ghost pepper on accident and that's when
- 42:08I realized I could handle the ghost pepper. But with Stille was a jolt.
- 42:13I was on an Emirates flight and for the first time, I go,
- 42:15I'll take the Indian meal. Normally I'll just get like the beef or
- 42:20the chicken. I thought I heard at some point that you couldn't have ghost
- 42:22peppers on flights. Like it wasn't an actual, true, honest to god
- 42:27ghost pepper or was it a dish that had like little bits essences of it?
- 42:30No, it was, so I got the rice and lentils. I
- 42:35don't know what I was thinking. I normally just get like whatever chicken or
- 42:37beef dish they have. And I was like, you know what, I'll
- 42:42do the vegetarian Indian and they're like, okay, it's doll and rice,
- 42:45lentils and rice and the container. I opened it up and there's a white
- 42:50pepper on top. And I eat traditionally like with my lentils and rice.
- 42:57I have a Serrano pepper that I just put a little salt on and every
- 43:00I'll take a bite of that and that's how I eat that with some onion
- 43:05or whatever. And it's got the onion, it's got the white little pepper.
- 43:07It's about that. It's about that big okay. And I was like,
- 43:09oh, never seen that before? Uh in one spoon, took the
- 43:15whole pepper with some lentils and rice and then ate it. And here you
- 43:21are living to tell the tale. Yes. And I had never known outside
- 43:27of football in Mesquite in the summer for the top of my head to start
- 43:31sweating before any like I didn't like it hit like and I was like,
- 43:37oh, that can't be served on this flight, Like I don't know who
- 43:40this is for, and I don't know. This is when I know Indian
- 43:44people didn't make this dish or they really hate everybody in the in the UAE,
- 43:52because it was I took a bite and then it hit instantly, and
- 43:59I was like, oh, I don't thing. I was supposed to eat
- 44:00the whole thing at once, and then from here it's just hard, literally
- 44:07pouring sweat. So you were like, you were like a human fountain for
- 44:10for solid for a solid two to three minutes. I was like, and
- 44:15then and then it was and it was fine, But for two to three
- 44:17minutes, I was questioning ever on any other flight in the history of flights
- 44:22getting the Indian vegetarian meule ever again. So I would be I would be
- 44:28very curious to see you try either the Carolina Reaper or this brand new pepper
- 44:34that this crazy man invented that is now three times hotter than the Carolina Reaper
- 44:39the pepper X. This guy is not one of those guys who's going to
- 44:45create something and not tried himself. He tries it himself, so he's his
- 44:49own I don't know, he's his own guinea pig. He says that it
- 44:53is immediate brutal heat the pepper X. He said, I was feeling the
- 44:59heat for three and a half hours, then the cramps came. He also
- 45:02said, those cramps are horrible. I was laid out flat on a marble
- 45:07wall for approximately an hour in the rain, groaning in pain. So far,
- 45:13he is only one of five people to eat an entire pepper X.
- 45:17Now, heat and peppers is measured in the Scoville heat units. Zero is
- 45:22bland. A regular Halapano registers about five thousand units. A Habanero, which
- 45:30was the record holder twenty five years ago, typically tops one hundred thousand.
- 45:37The Guinness Book of World Records list the Carolina Reaper at one point six four
- 45:40million units. The pepper X is an average of two point six nine million
- 45:46Scoville units. By comparison, pepper spray used by police is around one point
- 45:52six million. Bear Spray advertises at two point two million units. That means
- 46:00this brand new pepper X is hotter than bear spray. Uh, and we
- 46:07need to get shirts made or coined that phrase immediately, because uh hotter than
- 46:14bear spray. And I now hear our listeners saying that about women. I
- 46:17can just hear I think we need to be Trey's tender headliner fron Home hotter
- 46:28than Bear Spray. I think we now need to get show shirts made that
- 46:34simply say I'm hotter than Bear Spray. And then another one is this is
- 46:39pepper X, hold my beer. I think these would sell. Yeah.
- 46:50I don't know what I'll he'll do with the the pepper X, except for
- 46:54you make your shirt out of it. You sell some shirts. You don't
- 46:57need the pepper You just sell on the brand you say I am I am,
- 47:00I am hotter than Bear Spray, I smell better than cat spray.
- 47:07If you put that headline harder than Bear Spray on a grinder ad though,
- 47:29that's the congratulatory slow clap Tray, not the sarcastic one that normally gets well
- 47:37done. That's the clap that's normally reserved for the unexpected hero of a high
- 47:44school film. Thanks for hanging out with us today in the treehouse. My
- 47:51note was worth it for me. And if you're on grinder Man, it's
- 47:54going to be really never
