Speaker 2: Yes, this is Jerry.
• 0:06
Speaker 1: This is Gabe Glinden and Angie from The Big ninety
• 0:09
Speaker 1: eight point seven Morning Show. How are you doing today?
• 0:11
Speaker 2: I'm doing well. How are you doing?
• 0:13
Speaker 1: I'm doing great. You know I'm doing better because we're
• 0:15
Speaker 1: on the phone with you. This is one of our
• 0:17
Speaker 1: favorite things of the year, not just what the Big
• 0:21
Speaker 1: Christmas Wish is, but reading and hearing all of these
• 0:24
Speaker 1: wonderful things about people right here in our community. Cherry,
• 0:29
Speaker 1: you are a teacher. Can you tell us what grade
• 0:31
Speaker 1: do you teach, what subject? What school? Give us kind
• 0:34
Speaker 1: of the whole nine yards.
• 0:35
Speaker 2: Yes, I am a sixth grade teacher at Horizon Middle
• 0:39
Speaker 2: School in the Moorhead Public Schools, and I teach social
• 0:42
  Speaker 2: studies and science.
• 0:43
Speaker 3: And can you tell us what we call you? Missus?
• 0:47
Speaker 2: Missus driver gip okay.
• 0:49
Speaker 3: So this is how I came to know you through
• 0:53
Speaker 3: this nomination that we got from a student of yours
• 0:57
Speaker 3: named Maddie. She sent us this nomination and we were
• 1:00
Speaker 3: really struck by this, and I'm going to read it
• 1:02
Speaker 3: to you. She said. Missus Dryberg is my sixth grade
• 1:06
Speaker 3: teacher at Horizon West Middle School. She does all she
• 1:09
Speaker 3: can for her students and the other students. She's really
• 1:12
Speaker 3: kind and helps us whenever we need. She has this
• 1:16
Speaker 3: thing called Letter to Missus Dryberg. It's where we write
• 1:19
Speaker 3: out problems and needs on a paper and sign it
• 1:22
Speaker 3: and give it to her. So if we need food,
• 1:25
Speaker 3: she gives us food, water, clothes, and even if we
• 1:28
Speaker 3: have home problems, etc. I feel that she needs to
• 1:33
Speaker 3: win this big Christmas wish.
• 1:35
Speaker 2: That is so sir.
• 1:38
Speaker 3: I know when I read this, I immediately it really
• 1:45
Speaker 3: struck me because I've always felt this way that teachers
• 1:48
Speaker 3: are really the backbone of any community. And you are
• 1:53
Speaker 3: one of those teachers who it's clear you go above
• 1:56
Speaker 3: and beyond for your students. And when I was growing up,
• 2:02
Speaker 3: there were a lot of things that I lacked in
• 2:05
Speaker 3: my home life, and it was a teacher like yourself
• 2:09
Speaker 3: who really put themselves out there to help me feel
• 2:13
Speaker 3: seen and validated. And it is a parent that this
• 2:16
Speaker 3: is what you do. Oh my gosh, it is a
• 2:20
Speaker 3: parent that this is what you do for your students
• 2:23
Speaker 3: as well, And so we wanted.
• 2:27
Speaker 2: Try to you know, yeah, you know, we talk, We
• 2:29
Speaker 2: talk about all the time that there's so much going
• 2:31
Speaker 2: on in people's lives that we don't know, and it's
• 2:33
Speaker 2: really hard to ask for help or you know, show
• 2:37
Speaker 2: those things to others, and so we just talk about
• 2:39
Speaker 2: being kind and empathetic because we just don't know. So yeah,
• 2:44
Speaker 2: I do the letter every Monday just as a way
• 2:46
Speaker 2: for kids to tell me or have an opportunity to
• 2:48
Speaker 2: tell me when things come up, if needed.
• 2:51
Speaker 1: So that's such a great outlet that you give for kids.
• 2:55
Speaker 1: And I think it's if you take nothing else from today.
• 2:59
Speaker 1: Obviously we're for you some exciting news, but if you
• 3:02
Speaker 1: take nothing else from today, just know how old are
• 3:05
Speaker 1: you in sixth grade? Are you twelve, eleven, eleven, twelve? Well,
• 3:09
Speaker 1: just know that at some point one of those students
• 3:12
Speaker 1: might be thirty eight years old and talking about a
• 3:15
Speaker 1: teacher just like you. So that's one of those life lasting,
• 3:19
Speaker 1: lifelong impacts that appears you're going to make on many
• 3:24
Speaker 1: kids lives. So I think that's just wonderful.
• 3:26
  Speaker 2: Thank you.
• 3:28
Speaker 3: We love that you are such a safe space for
• 3:30
Speaker 3: these kids, and so we wanted to grant you a
• 3:33
Speaker 3: big Christmas wish today of five hundred dollars.
• 3:37
Speaker 2: Wow, that is amazing, what a blessing at this time
• 3:43
  Speaker 2: of the year.
• 3:44
Speaker 1: And it sounds. Yes, you're going to know exactly what
• 3:47
Speaker 1: to use that five hundred dollars for you, and you
• 3:49
Speaker 1: know what it can be used to whatever you want.
• 3:51
Speaker 1: If you want to buy Christmas gifts for yourself, if
• 3:53
Speaker 1: you want to take a day trip maybe, if you
• 3:56
Speaker 1: want to restock some of the supplies with your classroom
• 3:59
Speaker 1: for who need water or clothes. As Maddie told us,
• 4:03
Speaker 1: we know you deserve it and you're going to use
• 4:05
Speaker 1: it well and we hope it really helps you out.
• 4:07
Speaker 2: Thank you. Yes, And we actually have a wonderful pair
• 4:10
Speaker 2: in a room that has had a lot of loss lately,
• 4:13
Speaker 2: and I know would be greatly blessed with this donation too,
• 4:17
Speaker 2: So I'll make sure it goes to good use to
• 4:19
Speaker 2: people in our classroom.
• 4:21
Speaker 3: For sure. It is unsurprising to me that you would
• 4:24
Speaker 3: want to pay it forward. It really speaks to your character.
• 4:28
Speaker 3: And just thank you so much for all that you do.
• 4:30
Speaker 2: Thank you, thank you so much. I really appreciate it
• 4:33
  Speaker 2: so much.
