- 0:00Speaker 1: It's one hundred degrees outside. Let's go get our Christmas tree.
- 0:02Speaker 1: It's one more thing. I'm strong and getty. One more thing. Waw.
- 0:10Speaker 1: It's a texting related conversation. We'll get to them a
- 0:12Speaker 1: little bit, but first, some hilarity I'm hoping from Jimmy
- 0:17Speaker 1: Fallon on the Tonight Show last night. Well, guys, we're
- 0:19Speaker 1: heading into flu season. But great news.
- 0:21Speaker 2: The FDA just authorized the first over the counter combination
- 0:25Speaker 2: COVID nineteen and flu test.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Yeah, this test really does it all. Check out this commercial.
- 0:30Speaker 3: The FDA's new combination COVID test is quick, reliable, and
- 0:34Speaker 3: easy to use. Simply collect your sample, drop it onto
- 0:37Speaker 3: the test strip, wait thirty minutes, and view year results.
- 0:40Speaker 3: The first line is the control line. A second line
- 0:42Speaker 3: means you have COVID. A third line means you have
- 0:44Speaker 3: the flu. Four lines means common cold, five lines means scurvy,
- 0:48Speaker 3: Six lines congress you're pregnant. Seven lines means you're not pregnant,
- 0:53Speaker 3: you just ate a big lunch. Eight lines means your
- 0:55Speaker 3: crush likes you back. Nine lines means you're such a
- 0:58Speaker 3: scorpioes means your friend Gary wants you to text him back.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Text Gary back and no lines means you're dead.
- 1:04Speaker 3: The new COVID and Crew tests now available at CBS
- 1:07Speaker 3: in our pre easter aisle.
- 1:10Speaker 1: That was amazing. They're pre easter asle. The way they
- 1:15Speaker 1: do that at those big convenience stores. Oh my god,
- 1:19Speaker 1: just overwhelming amounts of whatever the next holiday is going
- 1:22Speaker 1: to be, right.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Right, it's a seasonal aisles.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I was amazed by the things you can or can't
- 1:30Speaker 1: find at like a CBS or a Walgreens. I'm often
- 1:32Speaker 1: shocked that, wow, they have this, and often shocked that
- 1:36Speaker 1: they don't have this. Yeah, you know, like I need
- 1:39Speaker 1: some automotive to something or other, and they have that
- 1:42Speaker 1: than some other normal household thing I think, and they
- 1:44Speaker 1: don't carry that for some reason.
- 1:47Speaker 4: I'm still lunged away by how early Christmas stuff starts
- 1:50Speaker 4: popping up each year.
- 1:52Speaker 1: It's like creeping in closer to the summer. Yeah. That
- 1:55Speaker 1: that has been a point of humor, like my whole
- 1:58Speaker 1: adult life. But it's reached so much absurdity now that
- 2:03Speaker 1: I don't even it's practically year round. Yeah. Costco especially,
- 2:11Speaker 1: and I often think that, you know, they're a for
- 2:15Speaker 1: profit business and very smart, and they've got a tremendous
- 2:17Speaker 1: amount of data. I assume they wouldn't put the Halloween
- 2:22Speaker 1: stuff in there as soon as they take out the
- 2:24Speaker 1: fourth of July stuff unless it works somehow.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Oh sure, right, Yeah, they have a certain amount of
- 2:28Speaker 2: floor space and they've done the data analysis. It's like
- 2:32Speaker 2: CBS or Walgreens or whatever with the season allisles. It's
- 2:35Speaker 2: just nobody goes there. Nobody goes shopping there to buy
- 2:38Speaker 2: Halloween decorations. But you see something the cute as an
- 2:42Speaker 2: impulse buy, they must make it work and you.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Get your combination COVID flu test and head on home.
- 2:49Speaker 4: A lot of companies now do the Christmas in July thing,
- 2:52Speaker 4: Christmas in July sales. I don't know why that irritates
- 2:55Speaker 4: me so much.
- 2:56Speaker 1: What does that mean?
- 2:59Speaker 4: They start selling Christmas products in July. It's just like
- 3:02Speaker 4: Black Friday in July. It's that's their thing. It's hey,
- 3:07Speaker 4: it's Christmas in July, and they just think it's the
- 3:09Speaker 4: greatest thing.
- 3:10Speaker 2: I don't know why it annoys you in particular, Katie,
- 3:13Speaker 2: but you're an old soul. I just what what occurred
- 3:18Speaker 2: to me when I was raising my kids? And this
- 3:21Speaker 2: is such a weird example, but it works for me.
- 3:26Speaker 2: We used to in my generation wait all year for
- 3:29Speaker 2: the Christmas specials, the kids Christmas specials, Charlie Brown, Christmas Rudolph,
- 3:34Speaker 2: you know the rest of them. Yeah, Frosty, the dialed
- 3:39Speaker 2: back Snowman.
- 3:41Speaker 1: I'm Frosty, I Q.
- 3:45Speaker 2: You're what was the one with the heat Miser? And uh,
- 3:49Speaker 2: I don't know, it doesn't matter.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Uh, but we used to Weiser the Abominable Snowman. Was
- 3:53Speaker 1: it its own thing?
- 3:56Speaker 2: No, but of course the Grinch and uh and and
- 3:59Speaker 2: and yeah, the heat Miser and like the Winter Warlock,
- 4:05Speaker 2: Santa Claus is coming to town, I think right any
- 4:09Speaker 2: that had the hot puppet chick in it his love interest.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Whoo man, they spent some time on her wood. They
- 4:17Speaker 2: carved it up right anyway, stop action sexy, That's what
- 4:21Speaker 2: I say.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Where were we he is talking about a puppet? Folks,
- 4:24Speaker 1: here we go.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Oh but we'd wait all year for that, and then
- 4:28Speaker 2: it would be a very special thing. And then when
- 4:30Speaker 2: my kids were little, we just bought the VHS tapes
- 4:35Speaker 2: and everything is available all the time, and the concept
- 4:40Speaker 2: of the rhythms of the year unfolding just it's gone away.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Now it's everything all the time, which I think is
- 4:48Speaker 2: part of the reason people are so crazy.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Yeah, it's the everything bagel for anybody who's seen the
- 4:53Speaker 1: movie that won the all the Oscars, everything everywhere, all
- 4:57Speaker 1: at once, m everything bagel. Yeah, I know. And I
- 5:04Speaker 1: can't tell if it's important or not. I really can't.
- 5:07Speaker 1: I know I preferred one or the other, but I
- 5:09Speaker 1: don't know if it's just a tiny, niche example of
- 5:15Speaker 1: something that changed for the worst but it doesn't have
- 5:17Speaker 1: any overall meeting, or if it says you say, it's
- 5:20Speaker 1: just all of life has become that. I don't know.
- 5:23Speaker 1: It's the second one.
- 5:25Speaker 2: And here's my evidence as usual, and maybe this is
- 5:28Speaker 2: backward reasoning. I don't know. But human beings for millions
- 5:32Speaker 2: of years saw life unfold in a certain rhythm. We're
- 5:37Speaker 2: made for that. We're not made to be shopping for
- 5:43Speaker 2: parkas in June or throwing on an extra zebra fer
- 5:48Speaker 2: or whatever we have been. We have been, you know,
- 5:53Speaker 2: part of the turning of the seasons since mankind crawled
- 5:57Speaker 2: out of the primority you lose or evolved from the
- 5:59Speaker 2: minky or whatever your particular view of of early man is.
- 6:04Speaker 2: It's all about the rhythm of the year unfolding it
- 6:07Speaker 2: now not anymore.
- 6:09Speaker 1: It's why we're so cuckoo. You couldn't go to the
- 6:11Speaker 1: village elders and say, let's do the harvest dance. It's
- 6:14Speaker 1: not harvest danced. There were six months away from the
- 6:16Speaker 1: harvest time.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Let's do it.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Why do we have to wait six months through the
- 6:20Speaker 1: harvest dance. Let's do it. It's a great dance.
- 6:22Speaker 2: And with the way you shake your leg and then
- 6:23Speaker 2: you shake your leg. No, no, no, it's not harvest.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Get back in your hunt or whatever right you have.
- 6:33Speaker 1: It's enough. Are you a very complicated view of evolution
- 6:36Speaker 1: or something? I don't know what it is.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Or don't you have a mammoth tusk to polish or
- 6:41Speaker 2: something else? I don't know a lot about prehistoric men.
- 6:48Speaker 1: I think you need to reread Sapiens perhaps out all right,
- 6:53Speaker 1: don't you have an arrowhead to craft?
- 6:54Speaker 2: You're on the arrowhead committee. Get to get to sharpen
- 6:57Speaker 2: or them with your with your stone axe.
- 7:00Speaker 1: M I agree?
- 7:04Speaker 4: Coming soon the Labor Days sale in February. Yeah, well,
- 7:10Speaker 4: I guess that's it.
