- 0:17SPEAKER_01: Today, we meet a very hungry raccoon who makes the most unexpected friend.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: A tiny seed.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: Our raccoon friend is convinced this seed will grow into delicious cheeseburgers.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: And their adventure together teaches us something wonderful about friendship and discovering who we really are.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: Turn on your listening ears and enjoy today's story.
- 0:45SPEAKER_01: Are you a cheeseburger?
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: Written and illustrated by Monica Arnaldo.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: This is Grubb.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: Grubb is a raccoon, and he is all by himself.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: See?
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: And here is Seed.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: Seed is a seed, of course, and he is stuck in the trash.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: This particular seed and this particular raccoon had very little in common.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Except that at the moment they were both in the same garbage can.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: Hello, said Seed.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: Grub continued rooting around.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: Oh, you are busy.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: That is all right.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: I am busy too.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: Grub stopped.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: You are?
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: I am looking for someone to plant me in the ground so I can start growing.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: Grub eyed the seed hungrily.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: Will you grow food?
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: I am not sure, seed admitted.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: Could you grow cheeseburgers?
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: What is a cheeseburger?
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: Grub considered this something very good and very special.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: Hm.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: Maybe we will have to wait and see.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: Grubb had never seen a cheeseburger plant before.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: But he liked the sound of it.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: So he planted seed right away.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: Now what?
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: Grub asked.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: Seed's voice called up faintly from underground.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: No we wait.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: Grub's stomach growled.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: How long?
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: I am not sure.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: We will have to see.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: The two spent every evening together, from moonrise to moonset.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: Grub tried to be patient, but Seed began to wonder what if he wasn't a cheeseburger plant?
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: What if he was something else entirely?
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: To help pass the time they told stories, Grub told Seed about the top three cheeseburgers he had ever eaten.
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: Number one, half a cheeseburger barely moldy.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: Number two, a piece of cheeseburger bun with some mustard on it wrestled away from seagulls.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: Number three, a greasy paper wrapper Grub could tell had once contained a cheeseburger.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: Seed told Grub about all the interesting things he saw down in the earth.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: Number one, a long worm tunneling.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: Two, a slightly shorter worm tunneling.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: Three, two average sized worms tunneling one right after the other so that at first they seemed like one extremely long worm.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: What is happening down there?
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: Grub asked.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: Seed looked around.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: It is dark.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: What is happening up there?
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: It is dark too.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: Later though, the sun will rise.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: What is that like?
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: Seed asked.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: I am not sure, Grub confessed.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: I am always asleep then.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: But I have heard that it is like a cheeseburger.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: Very good and very special.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: Both alone in the dark, Grub and Seed tried to picture the sunrise.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: Slowly, slowly things began to change.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: Hello again, said Seed.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: Seed, you are out of the ground.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: Yes, said Seed proudly.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: I am growing.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: That evening Grub and Seed celebrated.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: That evening Grub and Seed celebrated.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: Grub had a greasy piece of cardboard he was almost certain had once been the bottom of a pizza box.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: Seed had water.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: To the future.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: Sure and steady seed kept growing.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: And growing.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: The cheeseburgers were nearly at hand.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: Finally, one morning just before sunrise, seed bloomed.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: Oh said seed.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: Are the cheeseburgers ready?
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: asked Grubb.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: Grub Seed started.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: I do not think I am a cheeseburger plant.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: I think I am just a flower.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: A flower?
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: Not a cheeseburger plant No.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: So no cheeseburgers then?
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: No cheeseburgers.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: Grubb was quiet for a long time.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: What is it?
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: asked Seed.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: I am thinking, Grub said.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: About cheeseburgers?
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: No.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: About flowers.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: Oh what are you thinking about flowers?
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: I am thinking that flowers are good and special too.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: Maybe even more special than cheeseburgers.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: More special than cheeseburgers?
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: Seed gasped.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: Well the same.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: This is seed.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: Seed is a flower.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: See?
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: And this is grub.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: Grub is a gardener.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: They don't have any cheeseburgers, but they do have each other.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: And that is something very good and very special.
