Latest / The Daily Writer / Authorship is More Than Writing
Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to The Daily Writer, where we help writers become authors of their own lives.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Now you've probably noticed, and of course it would be impossible not to notice this, that I talk a lot about writing here on this show.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: And even though I'm a professional writer by trade, writing is actually the vehicle for a much broader concept at the heart of everything that I teach.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: And that concept, of course, is authorship.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: In fact, you hear this in the intro on every single episode because I literally say this is the show where we help writers become authors of their own lives.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: And I want to explore this just a little bit today.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: So again, this main concept that I'm talking about is the concept of authorship.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: And authorship is a philosophy or a life orientation, if you will, that's focused on helping you become the author of your own life.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: In other words, you're the one that's writing the story of your own life.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: And whenever you make this decision to become the author of your own life, you're not settling for the limits, the boxes, or identities others have put upon you.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: You're choosing your own destiny, you're charting your own course, and you're deciding who you want to become and what you want to build.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: For example, here are 10 non-writing ways to practice authorship.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: Number one, changing your career at age 50.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: Number two, deciding to rebuild your marriage.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: Number three, starting a business.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Number four, surviving a major illness.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Number five, having that difficult conversation you've been putting off.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Number six, creating some kind of art.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Number seven, taking a class.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Number eight, choosing to get healthier.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: Number nine, cleaning out your basement.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: And number ten, doing that thing that you've been afraid to do for a long, long time.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: So the bottom line here is that authorship, as you can see, is about far more than just writing.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: It really comes down to a way of living that touches every part of your life.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Hey, thanks for listening.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Keep writing, keep showing up, and I'll see you tomorrow.
