Although modern life is outwardly more secure than most past ages, men paradoxically display both a fascination with violence and an intense fear of it, feeding their imaginations on violent entertainment while living in constant dread of disaster and attack. This contradiction reveals a deeper problem: the fear of violence springs from guilt before God, just as Cain feared every man’s hand because he knew he stood condemned.
