- 2:39Speaker 1: All right, so today we're gonna be talking about the company you keep.
- 2:44Speaker 1: This is a two-part I'm gonna do preparing our heart for Thanksgiving.
- 2:48Speaker 1: So for those of us again in the US, we're going into Thanksgiving holiday next week.
- 2:53Speaker 1: So this is preparing your heart, but this is also preparing your heart to be grateful and thankful.
- 2:59Speaker 1: So if you're not in the US, you're not celebrating the Thanksgiving holidays.
- 3:03Speaker 1: This is still gonna be relevant to you.
- 3:05Speaker 1: So don't don't shut off the broadcast.
- 3:07Speaker 1: And so I am going to share my screen.
- 3:10Speaker 1: But before I, before I go into this, you know we're gonna ask the Holy Spirit to leave, because this is one of those.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Well, we're gonna ask the Holy Spirit to leave anyway, because that's just how I rock.
- 3:21Speaker 1: So, father, we just thank you so much for the opportunity to come before you again Another Thursday, another, another grateful Thursday.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Lord, we thank you that you've provided for us, you've provided technology, you've given us health, you've you woke us up this morning.
- 3:37Speaker 1: You know, we just thank you for everything, lord, even though you know it doesn't seem or feel like it at times, you're still blessing us, you're still protecting us, you're still guiding us, you're still releasing your favor and your mercy towards us.
- 3:50Speaker 1: So I just, I just want to say thank you this morning for everything.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Lord and Holy Spirit, as always, this is your call.
- 3:57Speaker 1: So I will, I will be serving and being humble to you and whatever you say, that's what we're gonna do and that's that.
- 4:04Speaker 1: So we're going, as I said, we're going into Thanksgiving.
- 4:08Speaker 1: So this part one is kind of setting our minds and hearts.
- 4:13Speaker 1: We're gonna touch on our characters, love and tolerance.
- 4:18Speaker 1: We're gonna talk about forgiveness and reconciliation and then being hospitable and being generous.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I do also want us to consider those families or those people who are going to have empty chairs at their table this year.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Not everybody is going to be sitting around a table with all the family members that were there last year, so I want us to consider the people who are going to have empty chairs at their table this year.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I also want us to consider the people who are not going to have food at their table this year.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I want us to consider the people who are going to have empty chairs at their table this year.
- 4:55Speaker 1: I want us to consider the people who are going to be alone this year the Thanksgiving, who are going to just be alone.
- 5:02Speaker 1: So, as we are talking about preparing our hearts and minds and reflecting the love of God and speaking with kindness and embracing gratitude, I really want us, as we are preparing our hearts for Thanksgiving, I really want us to think about the people People again with empty chairs at their table, people who won't have food at their table, and the people who are going to be alone this Thanksgiving.
- 5:28Speaker 1: So the first verse I'm going to pull up this is Proverbs 13, verse 20 in the ESV, and I'm going to drop it in here.
- 5:35Speaker 1: It talks about our character and our spiritual well-being.
- 5:39Speaker 1: So I'm just going to drop this here in the chat so you all can read along with me.
- 5:43Speaker 1: These first ones are very short so I'm not going to share my screen for them.
- 5:52Speaker 1: But the first one is Proverbs 13, verse 20, it says whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.
- 6:04Speaker 1: That's the first verse.
- 6:05Speaker 1: The second verse I want to drop and we're going to talk about our character and our spiritual well-being.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Again, this is us.
- 6:13Speaker 1: We're getting ourselves ready.
- 6:14Speaker 1: We're going to see some people next week and we're going to get ourselves ready before we start seeing family and friends.
- 6:21Speaker 1: The second verse is 1 Corinthians 15, verse 33, and it talks about not being deceived, because bad company ruins good morals.
- 6:31Speaker 1: So, while we're talking about our characters and our spiritual well-beings and how we show up really thinking about us as our characters.
- 6:42Speaker 1: So the first thing we talk about whoever walks with the wise become wise and the companion of fools suffer harm.
- 6:49Speaker 1: I think we understand what that means, but as you're preparing your heart to go into thanksgiving, or even into a period of being thankful for all of you guys who are keeping the grateful journals and you're talking about being grateful every day and all of those things.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Right.
- 7:08Speaker 1: It's really coming from a place where the company that you keep is so important.
- 7:14Speaker 1: That's why that's in the header the company that you keep is so important.
- 7:19Speaker 1: So, if you're walking with fools, you're going to become a fool.
- 7:21Speaker 1: You're walking with wise people right, become wise.
- 7:25Speaker 1: You walk with broke people.
- 7:26Speaker 1: You're just going to stay broke, right, it's just a common principle.
- 7:29Speaker 1: But as you're moving into this season of thanksgiving and even into Thanksgiving Day, it's who actually?
- 7:39Speaker 1: Who is the company that you're keeping, where you're finding yourself?
- 7:43Speaker 1: And so, again, we're preparing our hearts for thanksgiving.
- 7:47Speaker 1: So we're going to start thinking about some of the groups, some of the friend groups we're in.
- 7:51Speaker 1: We don't have any business being in, okay.
- 7:54Speaker 1: So, walking with the wise and making sure that we're not keeping bad company and again, it's not doing things to just go along and get along and so that you can get the thanksgiving and bragging all how amazing you are in life, okay, it's really thinking about the circle, the group, the company that you keep, and walking with the wise.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Part of walking with the wise is having a relationship with God.
- 8:18Speaker 1: So how do I know that I'm walking with the wise is that because I'm in commune with the Holy Spirit, because I'm in commune with the word right, because I'm in purposeful worship, then the Lord is always going to reveal to me the things that are the people who need to be moved out.
- 8:35Speaker 1: Sometimes I have to be moved out of situations, people have to be moved out of my situation, but it really is important.
- 8:42Speaker 1: The company that you keep, those voices, those inputs, the things that people share and say, is really, really important.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Don't be deceived bad company is going to ruin good morals, okay.
- 8:56Speaker 1: So that is a character, your character and your spiritual well-being.
- 9:01Speaker 1: The second point I want to talk about is around love and tolerance.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Love and tolerance.
- 9:07Speaker 1: So I'm going to bring up Romans 12, verse 18.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Like I said, this one's short, so I'm going to drop these short ones just in the chat and then share it on my screen.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I have to say this because the people on the audible streets won't know what we're doing.
- 9:19Speaker 1: So Romans 12, 18, and this is the ESB version and it says if possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with awe.
- 9:30Speaker 1: There's three parts if possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.
- 9:40Speaker 1: So again, this is a section we're going to talk a little bit about love and tolerance.
- 9:45Speaker 1: So this holiday season again, we're going to be around not just family, not just friends, but now I want to talk about maybe even the neighbors or the people you come in contact.
- 9:56Speaker 1: So remember, I started because I said I wanted us to consider three groups.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Three groups because a lot of times we're thinking about Thanksgiving and you know most of us get really excited.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Sometimes it's more of a reunion.
- 10:09Speaker 1: So you're getting to see family you haven't seen maybe since last year and you're focused on your nucleus, right.
- 10:15Speaker 1: But I also, like I said, I want us to think about the folks that are going to have empty chairs at their table this year, the people who won't have food at their table and the people who are going to be alone.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Right, we're going to stretch ourselves beyond the confines or the comfort that we have just within our walls, and so now we're going to talk about love and tolerance.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Why does the word say if possible?
- 10:39Speaker 1: There are times where you know there are times when it's peace is not going to be found in a situation.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Sometimes the Lord allows some things to happen to turn you up, to move you out of a situation.
- 10:53Speaker 1: So, if possible and it talks about so far as it depends on you so when it comes to you, you, you, you make the decision to live peaceably with all, with people around you.
- 11:05Speaker 1: You have to make that choice.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Since you're coming into the season of Thanksgiving, you literally have to set your mind and make a decision that you're going to live peaceably but the folks who are coming at your table.
- 11:16Speaker 1: You're not going to argue, you're not going to bring up stuff from last year, right?
- 11:20Speaker 1: You're not going to be quick to temp, quick, quick, quick and temper over something.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Like you know someone forgot a topping, or like you know these small things.
- 11:30Speaker 1: You know the menu isn't right and you know we, you know we can't agree on where we're going to eat all of these things.
- 11:37Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 11:38Speaker 1: These are, so, these are small things.
- 11:40Speaker 1: So, as it depends, it depends on you, you've got to decide that you're going to live peaceably with all and everyone who's around you, all and everyone who's around you.
- 11:49Speaker 1: That comes.
- 11:50Speaker 1: That comes with tolerance, right.
- 11:53Speaker 1: But the other verse that I want to share is coming from Ephesians, 4, verse 2.
- 11:58Speaker 1: 4, verse 2.
- 11:59Speaker 1: And I'm going to drop this in here and for verse 2, it talks about living in.
- 12:06Speaker 1: This is with sorry, y'all is with all humility and gentleness, with patients bearing with one another in love, right, so, again, preparing your heart with humility and gentleness, with patients bearing with another in love.
- 12:23Speaker 1: So, before you get to next week's Thanksgiving, maybe this week you're, you're going back to the Lord.
- 12:29Speaker 1: You know there's some things that you know.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Maybe there are issues again that you didn't resolve and all those things.
- 12:36Speaker 1: But your approach going into next week and maybe you started today, maybe you started today you start reframing your mind and your heart, right, so that, in humility, your approach is with humility, your approach is with gentleness, your approach is with patience, you're bearing one another in love.
- 12:56Speaker 1: You're the one like living, you know, because it depends on you living peaceably with the folks who are around you.
- 13:03Speaker 1: When you enter into this coming week, your pregame before Thanksgiving, right, in managing the company that you keep and if you're in the wrong group, bounce out of that group, right, you know how are you coming into this week preparing yourself to be around other people, preparing yourself to be around family members, and again, y'all, I just want you to also think about the folks who have nobody.
- 13:30Speaker 1: If there's somebody in your neighborhood and you know that person has nobody, or there's somebody who lives in your apartment complex and you know they have no, you know they're having financial issues.
- 13:41Speaker 1: You know, drop off a meal, drop off something like you know.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Do something with humility and gentleness.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Don't show up, you know, in a way that's condescending or, you know, show up in a way that you're going to serve with gentleness and with patience.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Think about the other people who are around you, not just the folks who are showing up to your table, your physical table, but really let's push ourselves to think about the people who don't have anything right.
- 14:10Speaker 1: And what can we do?
- 14:11Speaker 1: With humility, with love, with gentleness, with patience?
- 14:15Speaker 1: How can we serve others around us, right?
- 14:18Speaker 1: So again, we're this is our game plan before we get to Thanksgiving.
- 14:23Speaker 1: The third point is around forgiveness and reconciliation.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Forgiveness and reconciliation.
- 14:29Speaker 1: So for those of y'all who are going to use Thanksgiving as your way to, you know, to come back or combat some things that happened in your family before or maybe this was your chance you're going to, you know, you're going to tell people how you feel.
- 14:44Speaker 1: I just want to show something that I was studying in the Word and this is in Matthew 18, verses 15 through 23.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Okay, so you're watching my screen right now and this is again Matthew 18, verses 15 through 23.
- 15:03Speaker 1: And the Word says this is ESV version and the caption reads if your brother sins against you and it says if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone.
- 15:15Speaker 1: If he listens to you, you've gained your brother.
- 15:19Speaker 1: That's the first thing.
- 15:22Speaker 1: So before again we're preparing our hearts for Thanksgiving.
- 15:26Speaker 1: So if your brother sins against you your mother sinned against you, your auntie, your uncle, your nephew go and tell.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Go and tell him or her the fault, the issue between you and that person.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Don't use Thanksgiving as your way to confront anybody.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Go, go and tell, between you and him alone.
- 15:44Speaker 1: And if he listens to you, then you've gained your brother.
- 15:48Speaker 1: But if he does not listen, take one or two along with you that every charge may be established by the evidence or two or three witnesses.
- 15:56Speaker 1: What does that mean?
- 15:57Speaker 1: The way that it was set up in the, in the church again, because we're part of this body is that if you approached a man or woman of God and and and they didn't listen, you know you called out some things and they didn't listen.
- 16:10Speaker 1: There were, there was evidence that supported what they did.
- 16:13Speaker 1: So, don't you know?
- 16:14Speaker 1: Not to show enough to accuse a person of X, right, but what the word is showing here is is the way in Matthew, that it was established that there was evidence to go along what you were saying, and then there was witnesses to that.
- 16:29Speaker 1: But then if he refused to listen, then you tell it to the church, tell it to a higher, a higher power.
- 16:35Speaker 1: Okay, and I'm gonna come down, I'm gonna explain to you how you, how you approach this in terms of Preparing your heart for Thanksgiving and meeting up with family.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Okay, first, 21.
- 16:47Speaker 1: I'm just gonna come down.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Peter came up and said to him Lord, he's talking to Jesus.
- 16:53Speaker 1: How often will my brother sin against me and I forgive it?
- 16:56Speaker 1: Like, how many times I'm gonna have to forgive this person for what he or she did to me?
- 17:00Speaker 1: Okay, that's Shelley, that's Shelley's term.
- 17:02Speaker 1: As many as seven times.
- 17:04Speaker 1: And Jesus said to him I do not say to you seven times, but 77 times.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Therefore, the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants.
- 17:17Speaker 1: So why am I showing you this?
- 17:19Speaker 1: I'm showing you this because, as you're thinking about Thanksgiving and again, our pregame getting getting up to Thanksgiving, this is a period where you really want to go in with a, with a, with a Spirit of forgiveness and a spirit of reconciliation.
- 17:34Speaker 1: If this is your, if this is your, if your game plan is to confront auntie, so-and-so, I'm going to challenge you to come back in the word and talk to the Lord about you, the approach you're gonna take.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Peter was questioning Peter's question about forgiveness, and Jesus response is what we're reading in the word and a lot of times we Maybe maybe it's just me, but I'll see they happen many, many times where people use these gatherings as a way to air out grievances.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Air out grievances, and it doesn't mean that there aren't, you know, no limit exactly.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Thank you, carmen, no limit on forgiveness.
- 18:14Speaker 1: It doesn't mean that there's no.
- 18:16Speaker 1: It doesn't mean that you won't have, you won't feel some kind of way because somebody did something to you.
- 18:21Speaker 1: But but I'm gonna challenge you this season not to use Thanks giving for that.
- 18:28Speaker 1: I'm gonna challenge you to use Thanksgiving as it, as a time where you're gonna lead in with humility and gentleness and patience and bearing with one another, in love, and if you've got something you got to say to your brother, you Take that brother, assist us separately and you deal with it that way.
- 18:46Speaker 1: And you've had witnesses to support what's going on, then you deal with it that way.
- 18:50Speaker 1: But you do not use this as a time as a way to confront people in your life again.
- 18:56Speaker 1: We're preparing our heart.
- 18:57Speaker 1: We're different people, right, we're new creatures, right, you know we're, we're ambassadors of Christ.
- 19:04Speaker 1: So we can't do things the way that we're all does thing.
- 19:07Speaker 1: We have to do things a little bit different.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Amen.
- 19:09Speaker 1: So that's, that's the.
- 19:11Speaker 1: That's the point I want to make.
- 19:12Speaker 1: I want to drive that home.
- 19:14Speaker 1: This is a period we're gonna get our hearts ready for forgiveness and reconciliation.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Colossians 313 tells us Bearing with one another, and if one has a complaint against, against each other, for giving each other.
- 19:27Speaker 1: As the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must Forgive.
- 19:32Speaker 1: So you want the Lord to forgive you, you also must forgive.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Okay, because we're walking in his, his will for our lives, and his will for our lives isn't for us to just show up and act crazy.
- 19:43Speaker 1: All right, okay.
- 19:45Speaker 1: So the last thing I want to cover is around hospitality and generosity.
- 19:48Speaker 1: So Hebrews 13, verses 1 through 1 to 3.
- 19:52Speaker 1: I'm just gonna pop this one in the chat and probably just read this out for y'all.
- 19:56Speaker 1: So I think, as we, as we again we're preparing for this is our again pre, pre, pre, pre Thanksgiving, pre Thanksgiving.
- 20:06Speaker 1: It says Let brotherly love and I'm gonna pop it up and it's probably gonna be a lot on screen Let brotherly love continue.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Meaning.
- 20:13Speaker 1: It would have started right.
- 20:14Speaker 1: So let brotherly love continue.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels Unawares.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, as if you are experiencing it with them, right?
- 20:31Speaker 1: So it's not.
- 20:32Speaker 1: You're not serving other people with a sense of you know, a hierarchy.
- 20:38Speaker 1: You're not better than your neighbor and those who are mistreated, since you are also in the body, meaning we're all members of the body of Christ.
- 20:45Speaker 1: So, on this point, though, I want to share something.
- 20:48Speaker 1: I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday.
- 20:51Speaker 1: We're talking, we're actually talking about and come encountering angels, and I was sharing this experience that I had I believe it was last year where my daughter and I went to Target and there was a gentleman at the very end of the parking lot in Target.
- 21:06Speaker 1: This is here in Georgia says a really big target and he parked.
- 21:10Speaker 1: He had parked his truck and he was a veteran and he was asking for money.
- 21:15Speaker 1: He just had a placard up and he was just standing by his truck and it designed, you know, just asking for asking for money.
- 21:23Speaker 1: And I watched because where I live, up here, where I live, people drive testers like their Honda's Okay, there's a lot, all right.
- 21:33Speaker 1: So I, when I pulled in, I for a moment I was watching all of these, you know, very affluent people drive by.
- 21:42Speaker 1: This gentleman with this sign, this veteran, drive by and, just, you know, went on their way.
- 21:49Speaker 1: They just drove by like it was nothing and at that time, that day, I only had $20 in cash, because I don't really carry cash, and so I had $20 in cash and my daughter and I, you know, we both were like let's just walk over and give them what we have.
- 22:05Speaker 1: That's all we had at the moment.
- 22:06Speaker 1: So let's just go ahead and give them what we have.
- 22:08Speaker 1: We can't go into this.
- 22:10Speaker 1: You know this target, but we can't just leave him there.
- 22:13Speaker 1: So, as I approached this gentleman and I'm tearing up now because the rest of it's coming to me but as I approached this veteran and I handed him the cash and I asked him if we could pray, and yes, and we prayed for him.
- 22:27Speaker 1: And I knew in my everything when I walked off that there was something different about this man at the end of this target parking lot.
- 22:39Speaker 1: He didn't oh, I don't know how to put this.
- 22:43Speaker 1: It just felt very supernatural for me.
- 22:46Speaker 1: I knew in my heart that something was very, very different and I knew, even in the exchange of giving him this I mean, $20 might've been nothing for me at that moment, but might've been a lot for him but I knew that there was something in this exchange, in the respect that it was done.
- 23:05Speaker 1: It wasn't given to him, like you know, he was somebody that you know I treated below him.
- 23:11Speaker 1: It was the exchange, it was the heart that was tied to this exchange.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Y'all understand what I'm saying.
- 23:17Speaker 1: There was love in the exchange, there was respect in the exchange and then there was prayer in the exchange and some of you all are gonna be bouncing up to Target and Walmart.
- 23:28Speaker 1: There's gonna be people in front of Target and Walmart this coming week when you're going in the shop for your in public, you're going in the shop for your holiday bird and you're gonna bounce right by them and do nothing.
- 23:40Speaker 1: And so my charge for your heart is that, as a Lord shows you these opportunities where you can serve someone else, even in this season, that you'll stop for a moment.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for some have entertained angels unaware, remembering those who are in prison as though you're in that same situation, remembering people even in your life who don't have a thing and it's just putting yourself in their situation.
- 24:11Speaker 1: What would it feel like for you if you're out there on the streets, if you're in a wheelchair in front of Walmart?
- 24:18Speaker 1: You have nothing and you're watching y'all.
- 24:22Speaker 1: You're watching these Christians bouncing into the building and not stop and do a thing, nothing.
- 24:28Speaker 1: So I just wanna charge that, as you again, you're preparing your heart for Thanksgiving, that this season maybe this season we do it just a little bit differently.
- 24:37Speaker 1: We're very focused on getting the bird on the table and entertaining our family, but I pray that this season we'll do it just a little bit differently and also think about the people who the Lord allows in our lives, cause, again, y'all, you never know if you're entertaining strangers or not.
- 24:54Speaker 1: I hope that blesses you.
- 24:55Speaker 1: If it didn't bless you, it definitely blessed me.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Again, as I'm going into Thanksgiving, I wanna go into a season where I'm really thinking about the company that I keep and the company that I am.
- 25:07Speaker 1: When people are coming into contact with me, when they leave, what's the residue that I'm leaving on them?
- 25:13Speaker 1: So I'm charging you to think about your character and your own spiritual wellbeing for the rest of this week and going into next week thinking about how are you gonna show up more in more love and tolerance, with forgiveness and reconciliation, and really thinking about being hospitable and being generous to the people around you, cause, y'all, people are hurting.
- 25:35Speaker 1: People are absolutely hurting and we are called and expected to help them.
- 25:39Speaker 1: So I hope this blesses you.
- 25:41Speaker 1: I'm gonna close out and pray, lord.
- 25:42Speaker 1: We just thank you for what I've done to be asked, and I pray, now that your word is this release that your people will hear and that they will surrender to you, lord, and I thank you, lord, for glorifying yourself through me and Holy Spirit, I pray now that you will demonstrate your power through your own words and bless them as they need.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Thank you, lord, god, amen, y'all.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Part two next week.
- 26:07Speaker 1: I will be here Thanksgiving morning.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Talking about you know sinking into that day, and so I leave this with you.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Thank you so much for watching y'all.
- 26:17Speaker 1: I'm here every single Thursday, come rain or shine, and I just hope that this is gonna bless somebody today.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Y'all have a good day ếu.
