- 0:00Speaker 1: Oh, I've got lots of time for that. No, no
- 0:02Speaker 1: one comes into me bar anymore.
- 0:04Speaker 2: It's been years since I've saw so much as a pint.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Do you mean paint? It's been so long I've forgotten
- 0:10Speaker 1: how to say it's it's a joke. Even called this
- 0:13Speaker 1: place a pube four finger.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Discount ude, Welcome to fore finger Discount where I was
- 0:35Speaker 3: gonna attend a Norlish accent then, but I didn't.
- 0:37Speaker 4: It's in the name of the grandfather of a reviewing today.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I'm Dando and I'm going, yeah, coming to you. Well,
- 0:43Speaker 1: my grandmother was a Delaney so and and well, I
- 0:47Speaker 1: won't skip ahead, that's for you to do. But I
- 0:50Speaker 1: do have a story about kissing the blinding Star, which
- 0:53Speaker 1: happens in this episode.
- 0:54Speaker 4: You actually kissed the bonny side or someone's buttocks.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Look, it was dark, I'd had a couple of whiskeys.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Anything happens, you know, what happens in Ireland stays in Ireland. No, No,
- 1:02Speaker 1: I actually kissed legitimate Blanney Stone. But there's more to
- 1:05Speaker 1: that story. But you're going to have to stick around,
- 1:09Speaker 1: stay do the break we commercials already, that's right. We
- 1:14Speaker 1: got to get the lines on here.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Well, we've got a review recently where someone goes, be
- 1:18Speaker 4: good if there wasn't so many commercials, and I was like,
- 1:20Speaker 4: the good.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Of your supp.
- 1:24Speaker 4: And you never heard from them again. No, no, no, no,
- 1:27Speaker 4: we do support. We do appreciate everyone. I've just noticed
- 1:29Speaker 4: your notes are all wet. Oh no, that is correct.
- 1:31Speaker 4: That happened by being.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Crying, which in this episode that's true when irish eyes
- 1:36Speaker 1: are crying, that's correct. This is one of the problems
- 1:39Speaker 1: about being an old man who uses pen and paper
- 1:42Speaker 1: to take his notes.
- 1:43Speaker 4: I can't believe you still do that. I mean, it
- 1:44Speaker 4: makes me smile. But and the fact that you've got
- 1:47Speaker 4: your highlight sections and you've got your little highlights. A
- 1:49Speaker 4: certain culs moments is green, big is trivia.
- 1:52Speaker 1: That's correct. These were worth something one day.
- 1:55Speaker 4: You know, when we finally take off here at four
- 1:57Speaker 4: finger discount.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I like to think we have taken off. You know,
- 2:00Speaker 1: we haven't quite reached yet cruising altitude.
- 2:04Speaker 4: We're still what's it called when you're banking, when you're
- 2:06Speaker 4: just sort of maybe waiting for your turn. I think
- 2:09Speaker 4: we're like, get all the other since this podcast out
- 2:11Speaker 4: of the way first, so we can finally land.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I think we're like Tom Hanks is Sully. I think
- 2:14Speaker 1: we're about to crash into the No, no, not the case.
- 2:17Speaker 1: We're flying high here at forming a discount. But yes,
- 2:19Speaker 1: this is Dander was looking at my.
- 2:22Speaker 4: Hand made another movie reference without realizing it. Oh yeah, absolutely, Okay,
- 2:26Speaker 4: I don't know whether you realize it.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Oh no, I always know you like to think I'm
- 2:31Speaker 1: winging it like Sully. But no, no, no, no, everything's deliberate.
- 2:35Speaker 1: But no, I do have handwritten notes. Here. As I
- 2:39Speaker 1: was driving over in the car, I put my water
- 2:41Speaker 1: bottle down on my notebook and it had a little
- 2:43Speaker 1: bit of a leak, as or requiress one little drop
- 2:46Speaker 1: like old men will have happen. So yes, at least
- 2:51Speaker 1: one of my trivia questions is like I think the
- 2:54Speaker 1: answer is this, But yeah, I've still got all my
- 2:56Speaker 1: old handwritten notes from the many episodes that we've done.
- 3:00Speaker 1: One of these days we may auction it, so you'll
- 3:02Speaker 1: be a lot of it's going to be like a
- 3:05Speaker 1: handwritten a buck sold for a bag. I hate Dandal
- 3:11Speaker 1: all this handwritten stuff and fuck this guy. No, no
- 3:14Speaker 1: it's not true, it wouldn't. But yeah, I've got my
- 3:17Speaker 1: handwritten notes we were talking about the episode the.
- 3:23Speaker 4: Blaney Stone, and what I want to say is this,
- 3:25Speaker 4: this episode is about Grandpa and Homer and doing something
- 3:27Speaker 4: nice with Grandpa. But it's Mother's Days upon us this
- 3:30Speaker 4: Sunday as we record this episode. Is so, if you
- 3:32Speaker 4: are a patron of ours, you hope you have a
- 3:34Speaker 4: fantastic Mother's Day, your grandmother or just a mother figure.
- 3:37Speaker 1: In someone's life. You know, we have anotherfucker.
- 3:39Speaker 4: Yeah either way. Yeah, I mean that's usually Father's Day, but.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Mild Ben's Day.
- 3:46Speaker 4: But yeah, so all the mother figures in the world
- 3:49Speaker 4: out there. Not to be a particular mother. You can
- 3:50Speaker 4: just be a mother figure just special people.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Yeah. So if you've got any maternal instincts at all,
- 3:55Speaker 1: God bless you.
- 3:56Speaker 4: Yeah, you might just be the mother of a little kitten.
- 3:58Speaker 4: I'm the father of of them. Now, well, oh, could
- 4:02Speaker 4: you call or she's six months old?
- 4:03Speaker 1: Yeah, could you call Nala a kitten? Or she's now
- 4:05Speaker 1: called Daphne. He's changing. This cat's gonna have a complex,
- 4:10Speaker 1: all right. So it's Daphne. Yeah, And the two kittens
- 4:12Speaker 1: are Cocoa and Crack Crashing.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Coco Yeah, named up the crash bandicoot Ali. It's the
- 4:16Speaker 4: first or Elliott loves Sonic and he found the PlayStation
- 4:19Speaker 4: ort to play PlayStation on which game crash Bandicoot. He
- 4:21Speaker 4: just loves crash Bandicket's played all three of them. So
- 4:23Speaker 4: it's crushing Coco because they're actually brother and sister.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Yeah, so I've heard I'm gonna I am getting a
- 4:28Speaker 1: crash course and Crash commandicoot.
- 4:29Speaker 4: Yeah, they love shitting kittens.
- 4:31Speaker 1: I'll give that. Oh yeah, absolutely, Well, I guess what
- 4:34Speaker 1: doesn't happen doesn't stop when they grow up, just gets
- 4:36Speaker 1: how much catshit? Have I cleaned up in my house,
- 4:39Speaker 1: but there is a.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Lot, But there's one cat, one of them, and I
- 4:41Speaker 4: think I've worked it that it's crashed. Not only does
- 4:43Speaker 4: his ship all the time, but he steps in it
- 4:45Speaker 4: as he's leaving the kid litter. Oh, I'm like, dude,
- 4:47Speaker 4: learn to step around.
- 4:49Speaker 1: No, No, that cats a very clean animals generally, But yeah,
- 4:53Speaker 1: they take a little. It takes a little getting used to,
- 4:54Speaker 1: particularly if they're doing their business in litter. Yeah, he's
- 4:57Speaker 1: getting used to it, or just changed the litter because
- 5:00Speaker 1: in the pound, I would hope. So in the pound they.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Use these little palettes. They almost look like chicken feet.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Almost. It's just a little weird things.
- 5:07Speaker 4: But we've now changed to the white, stony, classic, stereotypical kiddy.
- 5:11Speaker 1: There is all manner of catlet. I like to use
- 5:14Speaker 1: this line a lot, and we mentioned it recently when
- 5:17Speaker 1: Lennon Maulton and I talked about Star Wars. Dann I
- 5:19Speaker 1: was there too. You've taken your first step into a
- 5:21Speaker 1: larger world that of cat. The smell of your world
- 5:23Speaker 1: definitely a stinkier, well hairy. Well, this hair everywhere.
- 5:26Speaker 4: I'm back him twice a day now, it's insane.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Yeah, when I first met the lovely Luise, it took
- 5:31Speaker 1: a little while to hair everywhere. Yeah, most of it
- 5:35Speaker 1: was mine. It took a little while for me to
- 5:38Speaker 1: invite her over to my house because I'm like, I'm
- 5:40Speaker 1: used to what it smells like to have a cat
- 5:42Speaker 1: in the house. She may walk in and go, well,
- 5:44Speaker 1: this guy's clearly a hermit, yeah and gross, and he
- 5:49Speaker 1: blames the cat for it, and he blames a gap
- 5:51Speaker 1: for all of this. So it took a little while.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Luckily she still learns only been twice. She had been
- 5:57Speaker 1: to your house twice. Well, she became a dog, you know,
- 6:01Speaker 1: And you don't want to bring Rafi the not the
- 6:03Speaker 1: popperin Oh Gosh, You're gonna get in trouble for that
- 6:08Speaker 1: the Pepion.
- 6:09Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a song that the Wiggle see. But it's
- 6:13Speaker 4: pop a dumb popa dumb poppa dumb, so.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Not even the same, not really the same thing, just
- 6:18Speaker 1: sounds the same. In the name of the Grand Yeah.
- 6:23Speaker 4: So this is one of those Simpsons go to episodes,
- 6:25Speaker 4: and I feel besides the England one, the more recent
- 6:29Speaker 4: ones haven't been too bad. I think this is probably
- 6:31Speaker 4: the best Simpsons go to episodes since Bart versus Australia,
- 6:36Speaker 4: for reasons such as they don't rely on the guest
- 6:38Speaker 4: stars like the English one does. Hey it's Prime Minister
- 6:41Speaker 4: so and so. Hey it's the Queen who didn't guest star,
- 6:44Speaker 4: but the Queen made an appearance in the episode. Hey
- 6:46Speaker 4: it's Sir Ee McCallum. That kind of thing, right, This
- 6:49Speaker 4: one here, it's just monuments, landmarks and just the Irish.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Culture pretty much. Yeah, the bulk of it is Irish culture,
- 6:56Speaker 1: long and story tradition of many many Irish things. Yeah.
- 7:00Speaker 1: I do have a few guest stars in there, very
- 7:03Speaker 1: of the time. Guest Shall we say that the two
- 7:05Speaker 1: stars of the movie Once.
- 7:07Speaker 4: Yeah, two thousand and seven film this and This was
- 7:09Speaker 4: written about to the pitch about two thousand and seven,
- 7:11Speaker 4: but because of the writers strike at the time, it
- 7:14Speaker 4: was delayed till two thousand and nine.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Yeah, but Glenn and Marquette grew France. Yeah, but they
- 7:24Speaker 1: are the stars of the movie Once, which is a
- 7:26Speaker 1: really really sweet movie, a very nice musical about not
- 7:28Speaker 1: even a musical, but a romantic drama with music. Have
- 7:32Speaker 1: you ever seen it?
- 7:33Speaker 4: No, I haven't, but I guess the story is taken
- 7:35Speaker 4: the mickey out of in this episode here where I'm
- 7:37Speaker 4: assuming he's a street musician that he falls in love
- 7:39Speaker 4: with somebody who's already married.
- 7:40Speaker 1: It's something along the pianos that piano. But their song
- 7:45Speaker 1: Falling Slowly was very, very big at the time. I
- 7:48Speaker 1: don't ever won the Oscar, but they certainly played it
- 7:50Speaker 1: at the Oscar. Glenn Hansen. Was it an actual released song,
- 7:54Speaker 1: I believe so. Yeah. I mean it was part of
- 7:55Speaker 1: the part of the soundtrack of the of the movie.
- 7:59Speaker 4: By the way, you guys can hear howling. It's the
- 8:01Speaker 4: kittens in the bathroom saying.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Let me out. I need this ship. I've got on
- 8:07Speaker 1: balls the shit everywhere. But it was part of the
- 8:12Speaker 1: soundtrack of Once, but I think it also became a
- 8:14Speaker 1: bit of a breakout single. Glenn Hansen, the guy who's
- 8:17Speaker 1: the male part of that duo, he was part of
- 8:19Speaker 1: the Commitments as well. Wow, okay, that's a very nineties reference.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I don't know, the Commitments were huge back in the
- 8:26Speaker 1: early night. Would you say huge? I'd say it was
- 8:28Speaker 1: pretty big if you don't know about the Commitments. Is
- 8:31Speaker 1: a really good movie about an Irish soul band, so
- 8:35Speaker 1: definitely worth checking out.
- 8:36Speaker 4: It was a while there period where not this era,
- 8:40Speaker 4: not this band here, but Human Nature that this is
- 8:42Speaker 4: single got the Four Seasons. The Four Seasons were big.
- 8:44Speaker 4: Everyone was seeing Four Seasons on trim. I think it
- 8:46Speaker 4: was like early two thousands of Human Nature were doing
- 8:48Speaker 4: all these national tours, sold and national tours, singing covers
- 8:51Speaker 4: of the Four Seasons. Oh yeah, it's just like you
- 8:53Speaker 4: go through waves of popularity, don't we know?
- 8:55Speaker 1: Well? Yeah, were they sort of cashing it on the
- 8:57Speaker 1: whole Jersey Boys success thing? Yeah?
- 8:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I think maybe Jasey Boys was after. I'm not
- 9:01Speaker 4: too sure, but I remember Humanature were just like we're
- 9:03Speaker 4: singing in all the four seasons songs and everyone's loving it.
- 9:07Speaker 1: We're talking about everything but Ireland, but that's all right,
- 9:09Speaker 1: that's the nature of the show. Yeah. I enjoyed this.
- 9:13Speaker 1: I had a lot of fun with this episode.
- 9:14Speaker 4: Al Jane called this a love letter to Ireland, and
- 9:16Speaker 4: it felt that way when you're watching it. This didn't
- 9:17Speaker 4: feel like it felt they were taking to Mickey btangan
- 9:19Speaker 4: cheek and sort of just acknowledging. I've got in my
- 9:22Speaker 4: notes that if you're an Irish person watching this, you
- 9:25Speaker 4: would enjoy this and you would take it in the
- 9:27Speaker 4: right way.
- 9:28Speaker 1: I think if you were an Irish person, maybe a
- 9:30Speaker 1: certain type of Irish person, you would look at them
- 9:31Speaker 1: go we've got a few runs on the board here.
- 9:33Speaker 1: In terms of like our culture. It's certainly in terms
- 9:36Speaker 1: of our literary culture. They pay a lot of they
- 9:39Speaker 1: give a lot of credit to that.
- 9:40Speaker 4: I think the culture is the big one that they
- 9:42Speaker 4: acknowledged in this episode. Just the culture of Ireland. Yeah,
- 9:45Speaker 4: just the vibe. Yeah, Island's lovely. One's are really nice.
- 9:49Speaker 1: I've never been there. I've only been a couple of
- 9:52Speaker 1: times in my life, but every time I go, like
- 9:54Speaker 1: really quite beautifully. Everyone's friendly, well, I mean everyone was
- 9:57Speaker 1: friendly to me. I don't know if I.
- 10:00Speaker 4: Take the family there, because Nichola says her favorite accident
- 10:02Speaker 4: is an Irish accent, someone will take it there. She
- 10:03Speaker 4: may never leave.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Well sorry, I mean when I went. The last time
- 10:08Speaker 1: I went was maybe like twenty ten or something. I
- 10:10Speaker 1: went on a work trip. I was single at the time,
- 10:12Speaker 1: and I was like, this place is just full of
- 10:15Speaker 1: redheaded colleens who liked to drink, like I may never leave.
- 10:19Speaker 1: It was just marvelous. Yeah, but I think Alging is right,
- 10:24Speaker 1: and this is very very affectionate and reverential, pokes a
- 10:28Speaker 1: little bit of fun, but the stereotypes. I was supposed
- 10:31Speaker 1: to do what it's supposed to do, but yeah, no,
- 10:34Speaker 1: it would make you want to move. You want to
- 10:36Speaker 1: go there because the iramer I enjoyed the episode where
- 10:39Speaker 1: they go to India, but this story was a bit
- 10:41Speaker 1: far fetched. But it's because I was taking the mickey
- 10:43Speaker 1: out of Temple of Doom and that kind of thing,
- 10:44Speaker 1: and it was just extravagant and whatnot. And mister Burne
- 10:48Speaker 1: sends home to run a nuclear power plant India whatever
- 10:50Speaker 1: it is. This one here, this story feels somewhat more
- 10:52Speaker 1: grounded and believable and it's easy to relate, I think
- 10:55Speaker 1: and Ossie watching this as well, because we have pubs
- 10:57Speaker 1: in Australia. AM sure.
- 10:59Speaker 4: It's hard to find a pub that feels like a
- 11:00Speaker 4: pub now, don't you think, especially in twenty twenty five
- 11:03Speaker 4: film More like Bars. Yeah, everything's We had the Nashier
- 11:07Speaker 4: in Geelong, which was just your grunge, dirty down pub, right.
- 11:10Speaker 4: It feels like nobody wants to be that anymore. They're
- 11:12Speaker 4: all going to have this serving picking duck and.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Yeah, even if they are, they kind of gentrified them. Yeah,
- 11:18Speaker 1: I mean the one that I think of the most.
- 11:19Speaker 1: We're talking about Gelong pubs, slash bars. This is very
- 11:22Speaker 1: niche podcasting, but just pubs.
- 11:24Speaker 4: And I'm sure everyone listening out there, if you're not
- 11:26Speaker 4: in American America doesn't really do pubs per se. But
- 11:29Speaker 4: if you're from the UK or Australia listening, or maybe
- 11:31Speaker 4: the New Zealanders pubs as well, but I'm sure what
- 11:33Speaker 4: they definitely do. There's definitely local pubs that when you
- 11:36Speaker 4: were growing up with the pub and now they're no
- 11:38Speaker 4: longer the pub. Yeah, the same building, but you go
- 11:40Speaker 4: onside and you go this isn't what I remember anymore.
- 11:42Speaker 1: There's a place on Paknis Street called the Petrol.
- 11:44Speaker 4: Ah Andre Passion went, that's not what I remember.
- 11:47Speaker 1: It used to be a pretty grungy kind of place.
- 11:50Speaker 1: It still does have. I did laugh, though.
- 11:52Speaker 4: We drive past and I feel like a traditional pub
- 11:55Speaker 4: always advertises the beer, and you drive past the Petrol
- 11:57Speaker 4: and still just has a big sign of VB B
- 11:59Speaker 4: side of Carlton Draft. You're getting the stacks stock standard
- 12:02Speaker 4: man beer is here. You're not getting pale Yeah, I
- 12:05Speaker 4: was it pale ales and like kind of shit, you're
- 12:07Speaker 4: just getting getting beer.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Yeah, you're not getting an ipa. It used to be
- 12:12Speaker 1: kind of like this pretty dawn market is where the
- 12:15Speaker 1: old men go to drink, and they've been going there
- 12:17Speaker 1: since the seventies. I told you.
- 12:18Speaker 4: I walked in with Nicola one time and all the
- 12:20Speaker 4: men just stopped talking and looked at her, and.
- 12:21Speaker 1: I was, oh shit, some some young bucks have taken
- 12:26Speaker 1: it over. It still looks pretty much the same, although
- 12:30Speaker 1: I run a broom through it. But yeah, the menu
- 12:33Speaker 1: was like, oh well, this is a better steak than
- 12:36Speaker 1: you get before, but guess what, you're also paying.
- 12:37Speaker 4: Triple same put but one you'd rather bring you're happy
- 12:41Speaker 4: to bring your missus to Well.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, I mean yeah, Lou and I went and
- 12:44Speaker 1: took Young Felix. It feels like a pub but also
- 12:46Speaker 1: feels like a nice pub. And yeah, they're worth their
- 12:49Speaker 1: weight in gold. Nothing better than a good pub.
- 12:51Speaker 4: And I just thought, call me crazy, right this, this
- 12:55Speaker 4: episode here proves that the unified theory a fourthing discount
- 13:00Speaker 4: is not a myth.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Oh tell me about it. We doubled up, double up.
- 13:04Speaker 4: Not only does this episode have a story based around
- 13:06Speaker 4: a hot tub when we just reviewed hot Tub time
- 13:08Speaker 4: Machine for the Movie Guide, but it's about the band
- 13:11Speaker 4: of smoking in pubs in Ireland. We just review butt
- 13:14Speaker 4: out on going down to South Park. This is a thing.
- 13:17Speaker 4: It's actually a thing.
- 13:18Speaker 1: The unifit theory of four finger discount strikes again. It does.
- 13:21Speaker 4: Indeed, you can't deny it. Now, you just can't deny it.
- 13:24Speaker 1: It's undeniable. It is undeniable.
- 13:27Speaker 4: But yeah, a really really fun episode that I think, honestly,
- 13:31Speaker 4: not just saying because I just watched it. I think
- 13:33Speaker 4: it's the best Simpsons go to episode since Bart versus Australia.
- 13:36Speaker 4: I think it's almost on part I'm.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Inclined to agree with you. I mean, I think you
- 13:40Speaker 1: and I are probably gonna like But versus Australia. It's
- 13:43Speaker 1: going to have a soft spot for us. Of course, yeah,
- 13:45Speaker 1: because it's Australia. Secondly, because it's I guess it's in
- 13:50Speaker 1: Golden Era or Golden Age or Golden Age adjacent. It's
- 13:54Speaker 1: got mage season six Oh okay, no one's smack smack dad,
- 13:57Speaker 1: Yeah okay, and it's got a lot of sixteen to
- 13:59Speaker 1: set and sixteen Yeah. I'll wager if you ask anyone
- 14:03Speaker 1: outside Australa, they'd probably got stuff. They'd probably go, oh, yeah,
- 14:05Speaker 1: there's that's a line from Bart versus Astralia. It's got
- 14:09Speaker 1: that bit and I really enjoy that and not just
- 14:10Speaker 1: good dollarydoes all that kind of mess. Yeah, I'm not
- 14:13Speaker 1: sure i'd say this episode is on par with that one,
- 14:17Speaker 1: but perspective, yeah, but certainly it is miles ahead of Yes,
- 14:24Speaker 1: some of the other Simpsons go to said location episodes.
- 14:29Speaker 4: I just think this one here feels like more love
- 14:31Speaker 4: went into it than Bart Versus Australia. Butart Versus Australia
- 14:35Speaker 4: is a really fun piss take of Australia, right where
- 14:37Speaker 4: a lot of it doesn't really feel all that accurate.
- 14:39Speaker 4: You no, no, no, it just it feels really over
- 14:42Speaker 4: the top. Where a lot of this I'm not Irish, right,
- 14:44Speaker 4: and I may be wrong, right, but from the outside
- 14:46Speaker 4: this feels like a lot of it is on the
- 14:49Speaker 4: money and feels like, oh, this is what Ireland is
- 14:51Speaker 4: like to an extent where Australia was. It captures the
- 14:56Speaker 4: Australian vibe, but it's also blown over the top.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it's treating Australia like.
- 15:00Speaker 4: It's very everyone's talking like this.
- 15:03Speaker 1: It's it's very backward and it's very like a backwater nation.
- 15:07Speaker 4: They didn't even bother to get any Australian actors to
- 15:10Speaker 4: do the voices a guest star. It was you know, now,
- 15:13Speaker 4: I feel like they did the Butler's Australian. Now that
- 15:15Speaker 4: would getting Australian Hugh Jackman would voice that kind of
- 15:18Speaker 4: over that kind of thing. It was all Americans just
- 15:20Speaker 4: doing the voice, which is fine, I don't care. But
- 15:22Speaker 4: this one here they got Irish actors to guest star
- 15:24Speaker 4: in it, but not be the guest star. They are
- 15:27Speaker 4: playing characters such as Cole Meani his name, yeah, so
- 15:31Speaker 4: he plays Tommy flanagan and he.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Does indeed, Yes, we'll talk about that character and that actor.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Ye little while, Yeah, Cole Meanie is one of your favorites.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Is in conn Air? He is?
- 15:41Speaker 4: Indeed, I'm trying to work. He's the guy that he's
- 15:43Speaker 4: the cop, isn't he he's got the kick?
- 15:46Speaker 1: Yeah? Is it a corvette? I can't remember. He's a
- 15:48Speaker 1: flying Buye. But he's on Star Trek Deep Space nine.
- 15:53Speaker 1: I think he's actually in the aforementioned commitments.
- 15:56Speaker 4: Okay, he's in a lot of British shows because nickols
- 15:59Speaker 4: a lot of britt Box and there's all crime. It's
- 16:00Speaker 4: a lot of crime shows in the UK and he's
- 16:02Speaker 4: on a lot of them.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Oh absolutely, Yeah. Good actor, good actor, and he does
- 16:04Speaker 1: well in here as well. So I love me. He said.
- 16:06Speaker 4: We're going to talk about the actor and that character soon,
- 16:08Speaker 4: but before that, let's talk about that actor. What you
- 16:12Speaker 4: just said, You're like, we'll talk about him in just
- 16:13Speaker 4: a few moments. Actor, will you talk about him? Because
- 16:17Speaker 4: I've written down notes, but they're all smashed.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Well, I've just said that.
- 16:21Speaker 4: Al Jean felt that Meani was just perfect with his
- 16:24Speaker 4: voice for playing o'flannagan and I think it's nice that
- 16:26Speaker 4: they didn't have Hankazaria, for example, or Dencass and I
- 16:29Speaker 4: are trying to take the mickey because it wouldn't feel
- 16:31Speaker 4: as much of a love letter if they had just
- 16:33Speaker 4: one of the American voice actors trying to do an
- 16:35Speaker 4: Irish accent. Just little things like that matter, and they
- 16:39Speaker 4: matter to Irish viewers and Irish fans as well, and
- 16:42Speaker 4: I guarantee you there probably a lot of Irish. I
- 16:44Speaker 4: think it'd be hard for an irishman, if you're a
- 16:46Speaker 4: Simpsons fan, to not like this, And even if you're
- 16:48Speaker 4: not a Simpsons fan, I think it'd be hard to
- 16:50Speaker 4: watch this and not just enjoy it because it's you
- 16:53Speaker 4: can tell that they love Ireland and they're trying to
- 16:55Speaker 4: pay tribute to Ireland rather than take the piss out
- 16:58Speaker 4: of Ireland.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Oh yeah, look, many many shows have and look a
- 17:03Speaker 1: lot of culture has sort of taken the piss out
- 17:05Speaker 1: of the Irish. Like they like to drink and they
- 17:07Speaker 1: like to fight.
- 17:08Speaker 4: Yeah, and they acknowledged the fight. I was really surprised
- 17:13Speaker 4: how little fighting there was, because every Irish parody we've
- 17:16Speaker 4: seen on the Simpsons so far is always usually based
- 17:19Speaker 4: around Sam Patrick's They they're drunk, they're fighting for no reason,
- 17:22Speaker 4: and that's the joke right here. They have the moment
- 17:25Speaker 4: where they are at the where the immigrants are returning,
- 17:29Speaker 4: right and they say to them your brothers, and they go,
- 17:32Speaker 4: they shake hands and go, I said, your brothers. I
- 17:35Speaker 4: thought we were going to start fighting.
- 17:36Speaker 1: And they didn't know. It's just awkward.
- 17:38Speaker 4: Yes, yeah, they they deterred from that, and I think
- 17:41Speaker 4: maybe that might have been a deliberate choice to deter
- 17:43Speaker 4: from going to the classic stereotypical Simpson's Irish gags.
- 17:46Speaker 1: So because this is the love letter, as Elgeane said,
- 17:48Speaker 1: absolutely now, I mean we just said, how what's about
- 17:51Speaker 1: Australians like okay, yeah, you're taking the pis and we
- 17:55Speaker 1: sort of recognize it. We'll roll with it. Yeah. Yeah.
- 17:58Speaker 1: I think there's a real sweetness to what they do
- 18:00Speaker 1: the name of the Grandfather because there's so much homage
- 18:03Speaker 1: to say, look at this great literary traditionally, all these
- 18:06Speaker 1: great writers who have come out of Ireland. And also,
- 18:09Speaker 1: hey guess one island's kind of at the forefront of
- 18:11Speaker 1: like modern tech or you know a lot of tech
- 18:13Speaker 1: companies that agually sort of set up shop in Ireland,
- 18:15Speaker 1: they're investing in them, all that kind of business. It's
- 18:17Speaker 1: really take that Belgium, Fuck you Belgium. But yeah, it's like,
- 18:24Speaker 1: this is a land with a great story tradition, but
- 18:27Speaker 1: it's also looking forward. It's not sort of like just
- 18:29Speaker 1: resting on its laurels. You know. The Simpsons like Ireland,
- 18:32Speaker 1: but I like Ireland.
- 18:33Speaker 4: What do you think of the hot tub story? The
- 18:35Speaker 4: only thing that this sort of detracts from this from
- 18:37Speaker 4: me comparing it to Bart versus Australia is Bart veversus Astralia.
- 18:40Speaker 4: The entire episode is about Bart getting Oh I actually no,
- 18:45Speaker 4: I'm going to take that back now that that was
- 18:47Speaker 4: my theory was that Bart versus j wastes a lot
- 18:49Speaker 4: of time getting there. What doesn't mate need time getting there?
- 18:53Speaker 1: Right?
- 18:53Speaker 4: It just gets straight into the story. But really, no,
- 18:56Speaker 4: the inciting incident is the Tobias with the Water's been
- 18:59Speaker 4: the other way. Yeah, this is just a hot tub.
- 19:01Speaker 4: It's actually quite similar. Well, there was a little disconnected
- 19:04Speaker 4: to my I mean this feels like too yeah, okay,
- 19:06Speaker 4: because the hot tub has nothing to do with it,
- 19:08Speaker 4: that's the difference. No, yeah, I mean it feels like
- 19:10Speaker 4: there's a real line of demarcations like, yeah, Simpsons get
- 19:14Speaker 4: a hot tub.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Simpsons get a hot tub. They enjoy it for a while,
- 19:17Speaker 1: they're neglecting Grandpa's well, they neglect Grandpa as a result.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Feel bad, feel bad. How can we make it up
- 19:23Speaker 1: to him. Let's get to it, Let's start a whole
- 19:25Speaker 1: new story. Yeah, that's that's that is true. Yeah, so yeah,
- 19:29Speaker 1: I was right, you know, right, you took it. You
- 19:31Speaker 1: took your sweet time getting there, but you were right,
- 19:34Speaker 1: honestly sorry about the folks. I had to sort of
- 19:36Speaker 1: do a little wickiing and look up the nose because like,
- 19:38Speaker 1: wait a minute, how does the hot tub connect to
- 19:40Speaker 1: Ireland again? And it's like, oh, yeah, that's right, because
- 19:42Speaker 1: they haven't joyed their time in the hot tub so
- 19:45Speaker 1: much that they forget about what is it the picnic
- 19:48Speaker 1: day at the retirement village or the Cromer castles father,
- 19:51Speaker 1: So yeah, essentially the home is not there for the
- 19:54Speaker 1: Wilmware race. Grandpa does a really good bit of planking,
- 19:59Speaker 1: tries to do it himself.
- 20:00Speaker 4: And yeah, speaking of fads, planking, that was a fad
- 20:03Speaker 4: for a while, wasn't.
- 20:03Speaker 1: It was certainly a thing. Yeah. The main thing I
- 20:06Speaker 1: think of when I think of planking is me and
- 20:09Speaker 1: the boys got together one night, Dan and Geelong had
- 20:12Speaker 1: many many drinks, but JP and I think Will got
- 20:16Speaker 1: the train back and they send us pictures of them
- 20:18Speaker 1: planking on what are we doing? What's going on? We
- 20:23Speaker 1: have found us as a society. You've got great abs.
- 20:26Speaker 1: But still it is official.
- 20:30Speaker 4: We have finally launched Bob's Pods, a Bob's Burger's podcast,
- 20:34Speaker 4: reviewing every episode of the series exclusively.
- 20:36Speaker 1: On our Patreon.
- 20:37Speaker 4: We dissect the relationships, the themes, the burger specials, and
- 20:41Speaker 4: everything else that goes into making Bob's Burgers one of
- 20:44Speaker 4: the most loved animated series today. So if you want
- 20:47Speaker 4: to sink your teeth into one of the tastiest podcasts
- 20:49Speaker 4: going around, joined the four finger discam family today at
- 20:52Speaker 4: patreon dot com slash four figure discat Now hot tub
- 20:57Speaker 4: hot what's your experience of hot tubs? I look them
- 21:00Speaker 4: on what Market plays on Facebook sometimes and they don't
- 21:02Speaker 4: look that expensive, but apparently they're very expensive to run
- 21:05Speaker 4: and operate, right. I think so, because we were looking
- 21:07Speaker 4: at buying another house blah blah blah, and it came
- 21:10Speaker 4: with this hot tub area at the back and it
- 21:12Speaker 4: was all inside, and I thought that'd be fucking cool.
- 21:14Speaker 4: And the guy's like, yeah, it costs a lot to
- 21:16Speaker 4: run though, and I went, oh, how much he has?
- 21:18Speaker 1: Like a lot?
- 21:19Speaker 4: And I went, oh, okay. He goes, they're great to say.
- 21:22Speaker 4: I cool, we've got a hot tub. But he goes,
- 21:24Speaker 4: it's a lot of work and a lot of money.
- 21:26Speaker 4: And I'm like, oh, okay, maybe I won't get a
- 21:27Speaker 4: hot tub, but I like the idea of just having
- 21:28Speaker 4: a hot tub out and the deck, just going out
- 21:30Speaker 4: with Nengland is dropping in our little kings and whatnot.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean dipping tub. When the Lovely Louison I
- 21:40Speaker 1: spent time in California a couple of years ago, it
- 21:43Speaker 1: was hot tub Central.
- 21:45Speaker 4: We stayed travel back to nineteen eighty six or whatever.
- 21:49Speaker 1: The eighties never ended there because we stayed with Lou's
- 21:53Speaker 1: great friend Claire, who was now my friend as well.
- 21:55Speaker 1: Claire's lovely she called Claire Bear maybe on occasion it
- 22:01Speaker 1: was a bare reference. Clear lives pretty nicely, but you know,
- 22:09Speaker 1: it was just the average house in this small California
- 22:12Speaker 1: town had a little hot tub out the back. And
- 22:15Speaker 1: we're like, that's pretty nice. She goes, yeah, I used
- 22:17Speaker 1: all the time, and after we popped in there was like,
- 22:19Speaker 1: I understand why. But then we were bulls, bubbles and
- 22:22Speaker 1: just relaxation, you know, and you're in a hot climate,
- 22:25Speaker 1: but you're in it's still nice to get into a
- 22:27Speaker 1: hot tub. But then we were visit friends of hers
- 22:29Speaker 1: and it felt like everyone had a hot tub, and
- 22:32Speaker 1: you know, at the end of the evening was like, hey,
- 22:34Speaker 1: we're all getting in the hot tub. Get your clothes off,
- 22:38Speaker 1: ladies and gentlemen, well, me going to hit home. It
- 22:42Speaker 1: was amazing at Swingers, but it was amazing how many
- 22:46Speaker 1: people actually had hot tubs and used them and made
- 22:49Speaker 1: them like not central to their lives.
- 22:51Speaker 4: But part of the end of the day routine.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Yeah. Probably, you know one wouldn't you that once or
- 22:56Speaker 1: twice a week You're like, it's the right climate for it. Oh, certainly. Yeah.
- 22:59Speaker 4: One of my favorite memories of the kids is the
- 23:02Speaker 4: first time they jumped in. It wasn't a hot tub,
- 23:04Speaker 4: but it was a bath that had jets and whatnot right,
- 23:06Speaker 4: and them going, what are these holes? It's pretty much
- 23:09Speaker 4: similar to this, And I said, what will happen? I
- 23:10Speaker 4: turned it on? At first, I sort of went, oh,
- 23:12Speaker 4: what's this? And then they went and the little things? Mate,
- 23:16Speaker 4: it's seeing seeing your kids enjoy the little things like
- 23:18Speaker 4: the clouds in the sky and bubbles in a hot tub,
- 23:20Speaker 4: and you go, I just take life for granted.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Mate.
- 23:23Speaker 4: Oh, you're so much beauty in this world that I
- 23:26Speaker 4: just take for granted. You don't know that the little
- 23:29Speaker 4: things like bubbles in a bath, You know, kids love
- 23:30Speaker 4: it absolutely?
- 23:31Speaker 1: Why can't Why do we stop enjoying the little things
- 23:33Speaker 1: when we get older? Woo, get dressed? Yeah, if you
- 23:38Speaker 1: got to keep the wolf from the door and keep
- 23:40Speaker 1: the lights on, all that under the business and the dip,
- 23:41Speaker 1: that's when you sink into a hot tub and just
- 23:43Speaker 1: let your troubles eb away. Yeah, just make sure you
- 23:46Speaker 1: keep your mustache dry well. Correct. Yeah. The other thing
- 23:52Speaker 1: about hot tubs is, yeah, lou and I saw in
- 23:55Speaker 1: the New Year in a hot tub. Oh nice one.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Don't Our friends as were house sit for other people.
- 24:02Speaker 1: We were sort of going up the ladder of wealth
- 24:04Speaker 1: and opulence. But Chris and Madeline were looking after Andrew
- 24:07Speaker 1: and Shelley's place. Andrew and Shelley were over. They were
- 24:10Speaker 1: hiking or they were climbing like Kilimanjaro, or something. They
- 24:14Speaker 1: were not some like some African they we're not some
- 24:17Speaker 1: African track and they were sending back videos like you
- 24:19Speaker 1: look so fucking miserable. Meanwhile, we're all in your hot
- 24:23Speaker 1: tub seeing in the New Year. There were like six
- 24:25Speaker 1: of us. Not a huge hot tub, but they were.
- 24:27Speaker 1: It was just a really good way to see in
- 24:30Speaker 1: the new year. Now, love what. I've been saying this
- 24:33Speaker 1: for years, but you know, we'll eventually get a place together.
- 24:35Speaker 1: But she's always sending me like real estate listings and
- 24:37Speaker 1: she was like, this one's got a hot tub. I
- 24:39Speaker 1: like sold. So yeah, hot tups. They're great.
- 24:45Speaker 4: My favorite favorite moments. Now you mentioned the earlier you
- 24:49Speaker 4: mentioned the race the Father's Son. It was a wheelbower race, right.
- 24:53Speaker 4: I thought there were a lot of visual gags in
- 24:55Speaker 4: this that Simpsons fans could really appreciate. This one's kind
- 24:58Speaker 4: of meta.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Right.
- 24:59Speaker 4: But in that race, did you notice that Hans Mulman
- 25:02Speaker 4: was pushing an older version of France moment because he's
- 25:05Speaker 4: only thirty one years old. Yeah, and alcohol I was like,
- 25:08Speaker 4: it doesn't make sense, but I'm going to run with
- 25:10Speaker 4: it because I've seen Molmon himself in the retirement home
- 25:13Speaker 4: and blah blah blaha with Vigdledge. His age fluctuates, but
- 25:16Speaker 4: for the sake of a metagag, I like that.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Oh yeah, for Molman and old Man, Yeah absolutely, Yeah.
- 25:21Speaker 1: And the fact that there's not a whole lot of
- 25:22Speaker 1: difference between the two of them. Yeah, yeah, I enjoyed
- 25:24Speaker 1: that very much. Yeah, what else did you enjoy?
- 25:26Speaker 4: Another visual gag was when they were closing the joint
- 25:30Speaker 4: down right, close it down, boys, and not only did
- 25:32Speaker 4: he spray the cigarette with the water, but he was
- 25:35Speaker 4: sucking up as evidence as well.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Yeah, it's weird. I enjoyed this episode pretty much. From
- 25:42Speaker 1: god woe. Yeah. Yeah. There weren't many times I was
- 25:45Speaker 1: throwing peanuts at the screen or just going boo, this sucks. No,
- 25:48Speaker 1: I don't think I was doing that at all. But
- 25:50Speaker 1: having said that, I'm looking at my list of favor
- 25:52Speaker 1: modes and there aren't that many. I think there was
- 25:54Speaker 1: just a consistent quality.
- 25:56Speaker 4: I think I appreciated the effort they're putting into just
- 25:58Speaker 4: little thing, little vision gags and things like that.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Yeah, but just consistent tone and sense of humor all
- 26:03Speaker 1: the way through that that I kin't of appreciate it.
- 26:05Speaker 4: I think the hasty era for these little visual gags
- 26:07Speaker 4: like mold Man running and things like that, because it's
- 26:09Speaker 4: not the point of the scene or anything. It's just
- 26:11Speaker 4: a little gags that added the background. I think being digital,
- 26:14Speaker 4: being hasty, they can add all these extra gags, and
- 26:15Speaker 4: they normally wouldn't They They probably wanted to, but it's
- 26:19Speaker 4: just like, do we have the time and effort to
- 26:20Speaker 4: add this? Yeah, I do think Mama would have been
- 26:22Speaker 4: pushing in older version of Moldman pre Hasty.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Era, No, that makes sense, but having the opportunity to
- 26:27Speaker 1: add texture like that is really Yeah. Yeah. A couple
- 26:31Speaker 1: of things I enjoyed from this episode. Yes, when they
- 26:34Speaker 1: recruit Mo into their scheme and yeah, to get shipped
- 26:37Speaker 1: over or whatever, and then I think they're talking about
- 26:40Speaker 1: something about oh but isn't that against the law? And
- 26:43Speaker 1: most the law that joke quit isl Mo, And I
- 26:47Speaker 1: like the delivery. Yeah, it's very, very fun. We've all
- 26:49Speaker 1: been at some point in our lives. And as a
- 26:52Speaker 1: book nerd, this was a visual gag that I liked
- 26:55Speaker 1: because they don't really draw attention at all, and I
- 26:59Speaker 1: had to do a little bit of deep diving to
- 27:00Speaker 1: sort of figure out, Okay, who's this this and this,
- 27:02Speaker 1: because I'd recognize one or maybe two of them. It's
- 27:05Speaker 1: just a shot when during the musical number in the pub. Ye,
- 27:09Speaker 1: you've got four people sitting at a at a table,
- 27:12Speaker 1: and these are four famous Irish writers. One of them
- 27:14Speaker 1: I recognized as the playwright Samuel Beckett, the author of
- 27:18Speaker 1: Waiting to Go, Waiting for Waiting for Go, Wait, Waiting
- 27:25Speaker 1: for It to learn how to act him? All right,
- 27:27Speaker 1: yeah he went there, Ze. We're being called Bill and
- 27:31Speaker 1: Marty today, terrible. One of them is Samuel Beckett, the
- 27:33Speaker 1: playwright of Waiting for Gotdo currently. I don't know if
- 27:36Speaker 1: it's on Broadway, but Counter Reaves and Alex Winter in it. Oh,
- 27:39Speaker 1: is that their play? Aka? Yeah, I call that right.
- 27:41Speaker 1: I know that's pretty wild. Bill and Ted's existential.
- 27:44Speaker 4: Events, Odin Kirk just fucking hanging out ross got It's
- 27:49Speaker 4: almost like nows be the right time to go to Broadway.
- 27:53Speaker 1: To a man, Zach who was doing all of it
- 27:58Speaker 1: hopefully saved up his pennies because you hear about some
- 28:00Speaker 1: of the costs of these tickets to these things, and
- 28:03Speaker 1: there's monstrous tickets just cost more.
- 28:05Speaker 4: Now.
- 28:05Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Denzel Washington and Jake gilln Hall are doing
- 28:07Speaker 1: a Fellow on Broadway? What right now? Yeah, apparently it's
- 28:11Speaker 1: not a very good production. They're both good in it,
- 28:12Speaker 1: but apparently the production is not there.
- 28:14Speaker 4: They're just giving up on Hollywood. They act it is
- 28:15Speaker 4: like funk Hollywood. Let's just go to do wrong.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Apparently like a good seat or maybe even a semi
- 28:21Speaker 1: average seat to like a performance of a Feller, it's
- 28:24Speaker 1: something like nine hundred bucks for one ticket US.
- 28:27Speaker 4: Yeah, that's nuts, you know, front row seats experienced to
- 28:32Speaker 4: w WE. Now he's now forty thousand dollars what yep
- 28:36Speaker 4: for what?
- 28:37Speaker 1: Yep?
- 28:37Speaker 4: Summer Slam this year for the VIP packages was forty
- 28:40Speaker 4: thousand dollars a ticket.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Name a prominent wrestler form does does Roman Rain? Still?
- 28:45Speaker 1: He's does Roman Raine? Does? He does? He wring out
- 28:49Speaker 1: his sweating shops into a glass that you then get
- 28:52Speaker 1: to drink that.
- 28:53Speaker 4: Johnson is not evern there, can't see we promise is here?
- 28:58Speaker 1: Can't see even I got that about Johnson? Do you
- 29:02Speaker 1: see that? John Senners in this upcoming movie for I
- 29:05Speaker 1: think it's Amazon, he's like he's like the president, okay,
- 29:08Speaker 1: And Idris Elbert is the UK Prime Minister and their
- 29:11Speaker 1: playing gets hijacked and they've got to join forces. Like
- 29:13Speaker 1: that's pretty cool, and they both like that sounds like
- 29:16Speaker 1: they're both like yoked and know how to fight.
- 29:17Speaker 4: That sounds like nineteen ninety seven actions. And yeah, we're
- 29:22Speaker 4: just said we've been a Midish Elba.
- 29:23Speaker 1: Yeah, and John Cena's just being him doing that thing
- 29:26Speaker 1: where he's like, well, I'm smarter than tougher than everybody else,
- 29:30Speaker 1: even though I'm kind of a dufers. Yeah, it looks
- 29:31Speaker 1: looks kind of fun. I can't believe you've got to
- 29:34Speaker 1: pay forty K for a front row seat sold out,
- 29:36Speaker 1: So that's nuts sold out, insane beginning back. Yeah, and
- 29:40Speaker 1: oh and you know things costs appearing on Broadway in
- 29:44Speaker 1: good Night Clooney as well. Yeah, wow, it's very funny
- 29:47Speaker 1: because he is playing this character who's a little younger
- 29:50Speaker 1: than him, and so he's had to dye his hair
- 29:52Speaker 1: black and you see him like doing interviews are Cloney Well, no,
- 29:57Speaker 1: Clooney had Yeah, yeah, he's had that for a very
- 30:00Speaker 1: long time. And now he's just got like this Grecian
- 30:02Speaker 1: formula for men and he just looks ridiculous. I've never
- 30:04Speaker 1: heard it called Sultan Pepper hair. I like that. Ive
- 30:08Speaker 1: got the mister Sheffield. That's a good way putting it.
- 30:11Speaker 1: How do we get to talking about this? We were
- 30:13Speaker 1: talking and Rewinded Blaze. People are the writers, Oh yeah,
- 30:17Speaker 1: Samuel Beckett or the playwright of Waiting for Gotto. But
- 30:20Speaker 1: you've also got I think in order from left to right. Yeah,
- 30:24Speaker 1: even if it's not in order, it doesn't matter. But
- 30:26Speaker 1: you're George Bernard Shaw, yeah, James Joyce and Oscar Wilde.
- 30:31Speaker 1: But James Joyce gets mentioned later on. He does, indeed, Yes,
- 30:33Speaker 1: author of you Lysses Finnegan's Wake, and George Bernard Shaw
- 30:37Speaker 1: is the writer of Pygmalion, you might know it better
- 30:41Speaker 1: as My Fair Lady, and Oscar Wilde and Oscar Wilde
- 30:44Speaker 1: is Oscar wild Is. You know the importance of being
- 30:46Speaker 1: Ernest and also the sequel, the importance of being Ernest
- 30:49Speaker 1: goes to camp.
- 30:49Speaker 4: I'm glad you did that research because you watch that
- 30:53Speaker 4: does get right. You watched that scene and as you said,
- 30:56Speaker 4: you know there must be somebody.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Yes, it holds on just a little bit.
- 31:00Speaker 4: Longer, say they don't say, Hey, it's somebody's go You
- 31:02Speaker 4: know that's something And I appreciate that they're doing. They're
- 31:05Speaker 4: throwing and making all his effort for people who if
- 31:08Speaker 4: you want to make the effort and if that's what
- 31:10Speaker 4: classic Simpsons used to do, as we say.
- 31:12Speaker 1: Correct, because it felt for a while and we talked
- 31:15Speaker 1: about this a bit that they'll be like, you got
- 31:18Speaker 1: this gag right, or you got this reference if you're
- 31:20Speaker 1: wearing a name tag and we or you know, hey,
- 31:23Speaker 1: aren't you so and so and such and such it's
- 31:25Speaker 1: Betney Spears. Yeah. I mean, but even with gags that
- 31:29Speaker 1: didn't involve prominent people or whatever, Yeah, it'll be kind
- 31:34Speaker 1: of like, we need to explain this gag to you.
- 31:37Speaker 1: It's like, give us a little have a little faith
- 31:39Speaker 1: in us. Yeah. Yeah. So that was something that I
- 31:41Speaker 1: really dug and it's I will touch on here.
- 31:44Speaker 4: So I mentioned one of my favorite moments was the
- 31:46Speaker 4: smoke in the bag right in the evidence bag. I
- 31:49Speaker 4: don't think it needed to have them holding up because
- 31:51Speaker 4: he's sucking it putting in an evidence bag. You can
- 31:53Speaker 4: see what he's doing. But then it ends with him
- 31:55Speaker 4: holding up to the camera and see smoke. And it
- 31:57Speaker 4: was like, okay, so I got when he was sucking
- 31:58Speaker 4: it up. You didn't have to do that, but I'm
- 32:01Speaker 4: okay with it. It's not dumbing it down too much,
- 32:03Speaker 4: but you know, I guess you have to sometimes dumb
- 32:06Speaker 4: it down a bit. As you said last week, we've
- 32:07Speaker 4: got to make you gone for the younger viewers as well.
- 32:09Speaker 1: Sure, next question, you there eating the paste, but trivia? Hut?
- 32:14Speaker 1: What do you got from me?
- 32:14Speaker 4: Oh?
- 32:14Speaker 1: Okay? Then the Simpsons go to an expo at the
- 32:17Speaker 1: very start of the episode. Yes, there is a sign
- 32:20Speaker 1: saying that you can turn your rec room into a what.
- 32:24Speaker 4: You can turn your rec room into? I do have
- 32:27Speaker 4: my Notees's not gonna bother go what is it? It's
- 32:28Speaker 4: a basement basically, that's right, Yes, because guess.
- 32:31Speaker 1: What you would normally turn your basement into a regular Okay,
- 32:37Speaker 1: that's the joke.
- 32:37Speaker 4: There's actually a lot of good sign gigs this episode. Yeah, yeah,
- 32:40Speaker 4: and we all love a good sign gag.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:42Speaker 4: My first question for you is what other name of
- 32:44Speaker 4: skinners hose nozzles?
- 32:46Speaker 1: Oh god, damn it, as you often say, Yeah, when
- 32:51Speaker 1: I was watching them like this could probably be a
- 32:53Speaker 1: trivia question, but it's too much information and I've already started.
- 32:57Speaker 1: I've got to rewind, forget it.
- 32:58Speaker 4: Would you like to know more? I would like to
- 33:00Speaker 4: know it is the Sprinkle King slash Queen Sprinkle Queens
- 33:03Speaker 4: Sprinkle King.
- 33:05Speaker 1: As the plane is landing in Ireland, Islanders referred to
- 33:08Speaker 1: my many names. Can you name at least three of them?
- 33:12Speaker 4: No?
- 33:12Speaker 1: I didn't listen to any of them. Okay, see this is
- 33:15Speaker 1: we're just talking about before there's too much work.
- 33:17Speaker 4: It's always like the universe is going all right. These
- 33:19Speaker 4: guys used to copy each other all the time. Now
- 33:20Speaker 4: we're going to make sure they do ship that the
- 33:22Speaker 4: other person was too lazy to do. Enlightened me, guy Davis.
- 33:26Speaker 1: It's like you know me all my life. Here are
- 33:30Speaker 1: all of them. The Emerald Isle, Potato Bill, East Boston,
- 33:34Speaker 1: Freckle Bog, the Land of Poetry, and the Land of
- 33:37Speaker 1: Bad Poetry. The land of bog.
- 33:39Speaker 4: Bog is such a freak bog? Yes, such a disgusting word.
- 33:42Speaker 1: Oh it really is? We for a bog? Well, yes,
- 33:46Speaker 1: we associate it with yes, taking a big pooh.
- 33:49Speaker 4: I also associated with Labyrinth. Part of Labyrinth that have
- 33:53Speaker 4: the bog of eternal stench. So if you're a kid
- 33:55Speaker 4: going up and you like Labyrinth Bog, I either think
- 33:57Speaker 4: of taking a bug or the bog of a turn.
- 34:00Speaker 1: So it's a bog just basically a big body of
- 34:03Speaker 1: like stagnant water.
- 34:04Speaker 4: It's just sticky, gwey ship. Yeah, the bog is it's
- 34:06Speaker 4: just it's in the movie. It's just water that's just
- 34:09Speaker 4: been sitting there, like to cross over a little bridge
- 34:11Speaker 4: and it's just water. It's just like the gross, slimy.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Kind of like a swamp, but swamps. That's a swamp.
- 34:17Speaker 1: Basically swamp sounds cool. It does. Yeah, it's like swampy water.
- 34:20Speaker 1: Though you don't want to fall in the water. No
- 34:22Speaker 1: you don't, you know, I mean you don't want to
- 34:23Speaker 1: go to the swamp. But I mean the comic book
- 34:26Speaker 1: character swamp thing sounds kind of cool. It looks cool,
- 34:29Speaker 1: a little mys serious bog thing. I would not buy
- 34:32Speaker 1: that comic.
- 34:32Speaker 4: But this a swamp thing looks like he's been in
- 34:35Speaker 4: a bog.
- 34:35Speaker 1: You know. It's that's what bog is. Yeah. I love
- 34:38Speaker 1: how Marvel and DC, the two big comic book companies,
- 34:42Speaker 1: they'll have like dueling characters, and you know, DC come
- 34:45Speaker 1: up with swamp Thing, great name. Marvel. Respite replied with
- 34:50Speaker 1: man Thing, man Thing, Yeah, which had the best Well,
- 34:55Speaker 1: my buddy Anthony, the who's a big comic book guy,
- 34:57Speaker 1: would always make the joke about you know, they'd be
- 34:59Speaker 1: the deluxe edition and Marvel Born I think called giant
- 35:03Speaker 1: sized man thing. Oh so did you have a question
- 35:11Speaker 1: for me?
- 35:11Speaker 4: And the next one is what are the two ingredients
- 35:14Speaker 4: of Guinness? Oh, it's one of those bogs bog water. Yeah, yeah,
- 35:20Speaker 4: it's the other one, like chocolate. Yeah, chocolate, that's right, Yeah,
- 35:22Speaker 4: fifty to fifty.
- 35:24Speaker 1: You're like Guinness.
- 35:25Speaker 4: I drank it. I believe it's what I drank when
- 35:28Speaker 4: I went to the Lord of the Rings tavern. I
- 35:33Speaker 4: think it was kind of stout or something.
- 35:35Speaker 1: Oh, I don't know. I didn't like it.
- 35:36Speaker 4: No, okay, Yeah, it's just the flavor was too strong
- 35:40Speaker 4: for me and not understand.
- 35:41Speaker 1: I just wasn't a fan.
- 35:42Speaker 4: I would drink it, but it's not something I would
- 35:44Speaker 4: go out of my way to go and enjoy all
- 35:46Speaker 4: the time.
- 35:47Speaker 1: Yeah. Sorry to be that person who says I've been
- 35:50Speaker 1: to Ireland, but hey, I've been to Ireland.
- 35:51Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 35:52Speaker 1: I'd never had Guinness much before going. I had like
- 35:55Speaker 1: maybe one or two. I was like, again, not my tempo.
- 35:59Speaker 1: Get to Dublin, like, well, I'm in Dumbosh. Probably the Guinness.
- 36:02Speaker 1: There's a Guinness factory right down the street and had one,
- 36:05Speaker 1: and honestly you could take the difference like I think
- 36:07Speaker 1: that's all I'm drinking. Now, get any fantastic Okay, it
- 36:10Speaker 1: was really nice.
- 36:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm sure I've had a guess specifically, I think
- 36:13Speaker 4: I had a stout, confusing it. But it was like
- 36:16Speaker 4: it was black whenever I drank. Yeah, and yeah thick, yeah,
- 36:19Speaker 4: really sink bludge, sink your.
- 36:21Speaker 1: Teeth into it. Absolutely, but yeah, well, a good Guinness
- 36:24Speaker 1: is like hard to beat. My next question for you, yeah,
- 36:26Speaker 1: and this is one that got smudged, so sorry, folks.
- 36:29Speaker 1: What is the horse race that Tom O'Flanagan is watching
- 36:32Speaker 1: on these vhs?
- 36:33Speaker 4: I know it's nineteen seventy nine. I don't know what
- 36:35Speaker 4: the race is.
- 36:35Speaker 1: It is the Galway Hurdle.
- 36:37Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, I did. What are your thoughts on Tomy flanner.
- 36:39Speaker 4: Let's talk about the character now. So obviously Colm did
- 36:42Speaker 4: a really good job with the voice, not in it
- 36:43Speaker 4: anywhere near as much as I remembered him being. I
- 36:45Speaker 4: remember watching this one and my memory was just, oh,
- 36:48Speaker 4: they go to this part, but I'm not really liking it, right,
- 36:50Speaker 4: I was a lot of younger. Obviously, he's not in
- 36:53Speaker 4: the episode all that much. It's kind of a sad character,
- 36:56Speaker 4: isn't he.
- 36:56Speaker 1: A little bit? Yeah, it's hard to get a handle
- 36:58Speaker 1: on because he's a bit of a mischiev aasion in
- 37:00Speaker 1: terms of like, now you got drunk and I sold
- 37:02Speaker 1: your pub? Yeah, bad, Like.
- 37:03Speaker 4: It's kind of a bad guy, but there's a little
- 37:05Speaker 4: bit of a but he's had a hard it's not
- 37:07Speaker 4: a hard life, but he's had a life of a
- 37:09Speaker 4: tough few years when no one wants to he's been
- 37:12Speaker 4: we would you say island's outgrown him or the culture's
- 37:14Speaker 4: sort of moved him past him by a little bit.
- 37:17Speaker 4: And he's just capitalizing like you have any good businessman should.
- 37:20Speaker 4: If someone's like, I want to buy your probably like
- 37:22Speaker 4: yes please, if you're.
- 37:25Speaker 1: Willing to give me a fair price for this pub. Absolutely, yeah. No,
- 37:30Speaker 1: it's not that deeply drawn or anything like that. There's
- 37:34Speaker 1: not a whole lot to him. It's not that I
- 37:36Speaker 1: think Cole mean he does a lot with a little
- 37:38Speaker 1: because he was used on all the promos for the episode.
- 37:41Speaker 1: I remember it was just you know, they go to
- 37:42Speaker 1: an Irish pub, they're buying a funding you he's really
- 37:45Speaker 1: not that well, he's the most Irish part of it, really,
- 37:48Speaker 1: because I mean, you've got other when it comes to characters. Yeah,
- 37:51Speaker 1: I mean I suppose some of the cops are. Yeah,
- 37:54Speaker 1: they traffic in a few Irish stereotoes, but I mean, yeah,
- 37:57Speaker 1: he's the main Oh we're in Ireland now, other than
- 38:00Speaker 1: the visual gags and all that kind of stuff. When
- 38:02Speaker 1: it comes to the Oirish accent or whatever. Yeah, he's
- 38:04Speaker 1: the main one doing it. I liked him. I liked
- 38:06Speaker 1: him finet. I mean I like the performance more than
- 38:08Speaker 1: I like the character. Shall we say the characters there
- 38:10Speaker 1: the serber purpose, as opposed to adding a whole lot
- 38:14Speaker 1: of texture or depth.
- 38:15Speaker 4: Speaking of the police, we mentioned earlier how usually the
- 38:18Speaker 4: Irish police are dumb and they're drunk and whatnot. On
- 38:21Speaker 4: the Simpsons. They're actually the opposite here. But they acknowledge
- 38:24Speaker 4: that they send all the idiots to the America, and
- 38:27Speaker 4: you made them cops. Yes, it's America idiots. Yeah, the Garter. Yeah,
- 38:34Speaker 4: we're all very competent at their jobs. My final question
- 38:37Speaker 4: for you is what is the dream that Grandpa has
- 38:40Speaker 4: that Homer's thumb is covering. Oh damn, it's a landmark
- 38:45Speaker 4: in America. Go to see a certain building. You're right,
- 38:50Speaker 4: you're right, You're right, Schmeichler Christ Okay, thank you very much.
- 38:57Speaker 1: By the way, I know there's a word that we're
- 39:00Speaker 1: supposed to say out loud.
- 39:02Speaker 4: Probably not if you think of it. If there's a
- 39:05Speaker 4: should I should I not? It's usually okay, well yes,
- 39:08Speaker 4: but they have it feels on saying the N word
- 39:12Speaker 4: because the N word is usually reserved or the really
- 39:14Speaker 4: bad N word, where as the N word as used
- 39:17Speaker 4: and here is more like an outdated term, not necessarily
- 39:20Speaker 4: an insult, but more at data. But Grandpa has wanted
- 39:23Speaker 4: to you know, and feel free to yah. He has
- 39:25Speaker 4: wanted to play for the Negro League at least twice.
- 39:28Speaker 1: Yeah. Another to do, Lizy head. It's like a recurring thing,
- 39:32Speaker 1: is that? Yeah? I did notice. Well, if twice is recurring,
- 39:34Speaker 1: then yeah, absolutely, two problems with that, that's right. My
- 39:40Speaker 1: last question for you is we mentioned Guinness it was
- 39:43Speaker 1: first brood when according to the Lovely Tour gamee No
- 39:46Speaker 1: no idea, what is it, it was first brood in
- 39:49Speaker 1: god Terrible hand runing see the seventh I think it's
- 39:52Speaker 1: seventeen fifty nine. Seven. If you think so, I've got
- 39:55Speaker 1: bad handwriting. I'm also smaged old.
- 39:56Speaker 4: Google Guiness seven and fifty nine. See it comes up,
- 39:59Speaker 4: Guinness seventeen fifty nine?
- 40:01Speaker 1: Was it? They're correct, Let's have a look.
- 40:04Speaker 4: It was, yes, seventeen fifty nine, December thirty first, Just
- 40:07Speaker 4: seventy fifty nine, thirty first of December.
- 40:09Speaker 1: Oh I love that. Yeah, someone was Probably they were
- 40:11Speaker 1: working hard in all years, like this is going to
- 40:13Speaker 1: be great for New Years, and they finally perfect it,
- 40:17Speaker 1: like we can see and we can see in the
- 40:18Speaker 1: new year.
- 40:18Speaker 4: Oh, Guinness is literally called, says yea. Why is Guinness
- 40:21Speaker 4: called seventeen fifty nine.
- 40:22Speaker 1: Because that's when it was first Brune.
- 40:24Speaker 4: Yeah, wow, I didn't realize.
- 40:28Speaker 1: You didn't know that either, did you. Listeners? You having
- 40:30Speaker 1: fun and learning a little something too.

- 41:51Speaker 1: of the month. Huzzah.
- 41:53Speaker 4: Indeed, all right, so let's get into our review, shall we.
- 41:56Speaker 4: Of In the Name of the Grandfather. So, the original
- 42:00Speaker 4: day of the episode was March twenty second, two thousand
- 42:04Speaker 4: and nine in America, but this was the first episode
- 42:07Speaker 4: to ever air in the UK before America, so actually
- 42:10Speaker 4: aired on March seventeenth, two thousand and nine, on Sky One,
- 42:15Speaker 4: so five days prior, so the month of this episode
- 42:18Speaker 4: or the week of this episode coming out, the three
- 42:20Speaker 4: top films at the box office were not going to
- 42:22Speaker 4: make a guess. I'm just going to tell you what
- 42:23Speaker 4: they were. The number one film you've learned your lesson. Yeah,
- 42:26Speaker 4: the numb one film at the box office was Night
- 42:28Speaker 4: in the Museum, Battle of the Smithsonian, Night of the Museum.
- 42:31Speaker 1: Good movies, they're fun.
- 42:33Speaker 4: They feel like the closest thing we had to jumunji
- 42:35Speaker 4: a bit.
- 42:36Speaker 1: Yeah, so is that the second one? The third one?
- 42:40Speaker 4: I think that my I think not Museum two was
- 42:42Speaker 4: called Night Museum two. Okay, then let's have a look
- 42:45Speaker 4: two thousand and nine looked it is the second installment,
- 42:49Speaker 4: So not the Museum series. Yes, not Museum was two
- 42:51Speaker 4: thousand and six. This was number two, Batle of SMITHSONI
- 42:53Speaker 4: it's number three. Must have been something else.
- 42:54Speaker 1: They've all blurring into one. I really sorry for being
- 42:58Speaker 1: a bit of an old letch here, but I really
- 43:00Speaker 1: remember none of the Museum because wait, there'sn't there's four?
- 43:05Speaker 1: They all? Is the fourth one like one of.
- 43:07Speaker 4: Those straight to TV kind of secret of the twob
- 43:10Speaker 4: twenty fourteen, five years after the second film, Night at
- 43:13Speaker 4: the Museum, Kumara rises again.
- 43:16Speaker 1: Yeah, that sounds like made for TV or something. Let's
- 43:19Speaker 1: have a look at isn't it not.
- 43:21Speaker 4: Oh it's animated. Oh a Disney Plus exclusive animated one.
- 43:25Speaker 1: There we go. Well, I mean none of the museums. Ip,
- 43:28Speaker 1: that's too good to leave on the shelf for too long.
- 43:30Speaker 4: I wonder it doesn't have Ben still in it.
- 43:34Speaker 1: Yeah. I just remember one of them had Amy Adams
- 43:36Speaker 1: playing Amelia Earhart, and she was wearing a very fetching
- 43:39Speaker 1: Flyers outfit. You would remember that.
- 43:42Speaker 4: I love how they had an animated version of the
- 43:44Speaker 4: film and Hankazari is not in it. Voics of all time.
- 43:50Speaker 4: It's very important to get Ricky Gervais instead of of
- 43:53Speaker 4: Hakazaria apparently yea. But so that was the top film,
- 43:56Speaker 4: and we had Terminated Salvation at number two, and we
- 43:59Speaker 4: had Star Trek, Your Star Trek, the one that you liked.
- 44:01Speaker 4: Oh yes, it's Chris Pine at number three. Now, the
- 44:04Speaker 4: top board gag for this episode was four leaf Clovers
- 44:06Speaker 4: are not mutant freaks, and the coush gag is the
- 44:08Speaker 4: family members participate in a dog show. Bart wins and
- 44:11Speaker 4: Homer attacks him as a result.
- 44:12Speaker 1: I found that whole bit to be sort of weirdoss.
- 44:15Speaker 4: Yeah, it was just killing time, I guess, yeah, weird.
- 44:18Speaker 4: So the episode kicks off of the Home and Garden
- 44:20Speaker 4: show at the Springfield Convention Center. Marj just tricked the
- 44:23Speaker 4: family into going there because they wouldn't have normally gone
- 44:25Speaker 4: by saying it is a video game expo to Bart
- 44:28Speaker 4: is picking up trash by the freeway for Lisa, and
- 44:30Speaker 4: she told home or something, but he wasn't listening. Fine,
- 44:33Speaker 4: Margin says if they don't like it, though, they can
- 44:35Speaker 4: just complain all the way home.
- 44:36Speaker 1: That's nice.
- 44:37Speaker 4: Compromise, absolutely, because kids complain, mate, they just they complain
- 44:41Speaker 4: when we all complain, right, but kids, it just feels
- 44:43Speaker 4: like lately the kids are just finding new things to
- 44:45Speaker 4: complain about.
- 44:46Speaker 1: It's just today. I said to him that he just
- 44:49Speaker 1: needs ten.
- 44:49Speaker 4: Minutes of here doing a bit of extra sort of
- 44:50Speaker 4: research work for this episode here while we getting ready
- 44:52Speaker 4: for school. Can you guys just be quiet for ten minutes,
- 44:55Speaker 4: just look up to yourselves and no shit. Within like
- 44:57Speaker 4: twenty seconds, they're arguing over who gets to hold the remote?
- 45:01Speaker 1: What are we doing? Or you're raising the next generation? Exactly?
- 45:05Speaker 2: Yeah, kids, let's practice me me, me, me, Well, let's
- 45:13Speaker 2: get that was good, But Lisa, you're still complaining from
- 45:18Speaker 2: your throat, not your diaphragm.
- 45:20Speaker 1: Iras so bud.

- 46:04Speaker 4: she's a welcome mat that measures your weight as well.
- 46:07Speaker 4: At homeosteps on and the warranty is avoided. I wouldn't
- 46:09Speaker 4: like this. I don't want to weigh myself ever. I
- 46:11Speaker 4: don't want the I don't be walking to someone's house
- 46:13Speaker 4: and going, oh, that's how much I weighs, because you're,
- 46:16Speaker 4: you know, good and lean.
- 46:17Speaker 1: I just can't weigh myself. That's just that's my Yeah,
- 46:20Speaker 1: yeah yet.
- 46:21Speaker 4: But but then Bart's he's Skinner and he's selling hose nozzles,
- 46:24Speaker 4: and Bart then does the classic whose play, as he
- 46:27Speaker 4: puts it, by squeezing the hose. We've all done that
- 46:30Speaker 4: at some point in our lives, haven't we. Someone's watering
- 46:32Speaker 4: the gut who you were done to a Bubby or
- 46:33Speaker 4: Margaret at some point. Yeah, regret it to this day.
- 46:37Speaker 4: I'm more a fan of turning the tap on with
- 46:38Speaker 4: someone's in the shower. That's more fun. But it doesn't
- 46:40Speaker 4: work in his house anymore. Something's happened in his house
- 46:43Speaker 4: where I used to be able to turn on the
- 46:44Speaker 4: kitchen tap and it would screw around the shower for Nicola.
- 46:48Speaker 4: And now I do it and she's just like I
- 46:50Speaker 4: did the water go fun and she SHOs no. I
- 46:51Speaker 4: was like, oh damn, but that's just the classic one
- 46:55Speaker 4: I used to do to my sister all the time.
- 46:56Speaker 1: Do you ever do it to your sisters in the shower?
- 46:58Speaker 1: I probably did, yeah.
- 46:59Speaker 4: Oh yeah, except one time I remember doing it. I
- 47:01Speaker 4: think I was doing it to Nicola. And turns out
- 47:03Speaker 4: was when he foundly were over. Her mum was in
- 47:04Speaker 4: the shower. Here we got two showers. I had the showers.
- 47:07Speaker 4: I'll get her and her mum was not impressed.
- 47:11Speaker 1: I can't believe it, that man so margin here's the
- 47:16Speaker 1: soothing sounds. But what is it? What is that soothing sound?
- 47:18Speaker 4: Turns out it's the bubbles of hot tubs. Carl says,
- 47:22Speaker 4: it's like getting a back rub from an orgasm, which
- 47:24Speaker 4: sounds lovely.
- 47:25Speaker 1: A bit of a saucy line it is.
- 47:27Speaker 4: Indeed, Yeah, were they they pushed the boundaries about crossing
- 47:30Speaker 4: it too far?
- 47:30Speaker 1: I guess I suppose, though I don't know. I mean,
- 47:34Speaker 1: you're watching this would say, Eli, I don't ask what
- 47:36Speaker 1: an orgasm.
- 47:36Speaker 4: Is, Like, yeah, but you know what it is. I
- 47:39Speaker 4: don't think I get saying. But I don't think Alliot
- 47:41Speaker 4: would watch this and go, WA's an orgasm? I think
- 47:43Speaker 4: orgasm just sounds like a funny word. Correct, Yeah, because
- 47:47Speaker 4: I never watched the things and went, hey, mom, what
- 47:49Speaker 4: does this word mean?
- 47:50Speaker 1: It's just that's just a funny word. I'm gonna I'll
- 47:53Speaker 1: try out one of my favorite stories that has been
- 47:55Speaker 1: used before. But I've told you the one about the
- 47:58Speaker 1: comic book that I got from the newsstand when I
- 48:00Speaker 1: was like seven years old. Yeah, it was the science
- 48:02Speaker 1: fiction one and what it called that's the punchline. Okay,
- 48:06Speaker 1: tell the story again. Tell the story. I will. It
- 48:09Speaker 1: was the nineteen seventies kids, and you know, guy had
- 48:13Speaker 1: just a lashback flashback. Last I'd seen Star Wars, love
- 48:18Speaker 1: science fiction, all things science fiction. Wanted to know more
- 48:20Speaker 1: and more about the galaxy and everything that happened in it.
- 48:23Speaker 4: You would have been about eight nine, Yeah.
- 48:26Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, probably eight eight or nine years old. I
- 48:30Speaker 1: used to go to a World of Sport on a
- 48:33Speaker 1: Sunday with my dad, but we would TV show, TV
- 48:35Speaker 1: show yeah, yes, his dad was on the show that. Yeah,
- 48:38Speaker 1: that was every Sunday talk about all things sport. People
- 48:40Speaker 1: outside a show like they went to the World of Sport.
- 48:42Speaker 1: Where is this this magical planet? Yeap, My dad appeared
- 48:46Speaker 1: on a show called World of Sport. It was on
- 48:48Speaker 1: every Sunday, done live. I would go up with him
- 48:51Speaker 1: and hang around the studio, but we would stop off
- 48:53Speaker 1: at this news stand beforehand where Dad had made a
- 48:56Speaker 1: deal where you know, he'd give the guy like a sign,
- 48:58Speaker 1: footy or something, and he got free newspapers, and of
- 49:00Speaker 1: course I was along for the ride, and I got
- 49:02Speaker 1: free comic books. I was like, that one looks safer.
- 49:05Speaker 1: I want it. Ringing through a going There's a lot
- 49:08Speaker 1: of stuff here. I don't understand. Hey, that rabbit's got
- 49:10Speaker 1: no pants. Essentially, what did Bobby let you buy? What?
- 49:14Speaker 1: What a magazine was it? Well, it was like a
- 49:16Speaker 1: French sci fi for adults, so it was sci fi,
- 49:20Speaker 1: but it was just a raunchy, raunchy sexy side.
- 49:23Speaker 4: I thought you just you purchased like a playboy that
- 49:25Speaker 4: had like some chicken the Princess layer outfit on the
- 49:26Speaker 4: front cover or something that looks like sci fi.
- 49:31Speaker 1: But yeah, bring It's like, I don't get there's some
- 49:35Speaker 1: like slaves this going in there pretty much. I eventually
- 49:41Speaker 1: got rid of it, but not before my my sister
- 49:44Speaker 1: found it. Well, I was going to take it into
- 49:47Speaker 1: this second hand because it felt embarrassed, didn't you. Yeah,
- 49:49Speaker 1: it was like I don't want this in the house anymore,
- 49:51Speaker 1: making me feel strange. But it had an ad for
- 49:53Speaker 1: the meat Life album Bat Out of Hell in the
- 49:55Speaker 1: back and my sister at Winders going oh wow, what's
- 49:57Speaker 1: this and having looked and go what is this? And
- 49:59Speaker 1: I'm like, I don't know. It confuses me. Why am
- 50:06Speaker 1: I telling him the story? Because the name of that
- 50:08Speaker 1: magazine was gasm. Oh wow, foundational memory of my sounds
- 50:18Speaker 1: like a psychic in a sci fi film. Though a
- 50:20Speaker 1: gasm pass me this, that's just the noisy And I
- 50:29Speaker 1: tell you him because of course, there's no just thing
- 50:31Speaker 1: as a female, not that I'm aware of. Anyway, Let's
- 50:40Speaker 1: move on. Sorry, but uh, Carl is getting a back
- 50:43Speaker 1: rub from That's what it feels like. Anyway.
- 50:46Speaker 4: Hope wants to buy the fanciest hot tubby has.
- 50:49Speaker 1: And wise Guy was the voice here right he suggested
- 50:52Speaker 1: this didn't look like wise guys. It's always weird by
- 50:54Speaker 1: this point in the show when when watching older episodes,
- 50:57Speaker 1: we can get we can give him a pass, right,
- 51:00Speaker 1: the wise Guy's been an established character.
- 51:02Speaker 4: He's now the wise Guy. We know him as the
- 51:04Speaker 4: wise Guy, and we will buy him in any situation.
- 51:06Speaker 4: He can be working three different stores in one episode.
- 51:08Speaker 4: Will buy it because he's just the wise Guy. Sure,
- 51:10Speaker 4: So it's so weird when you see them in season
- 51:12Speaker 4: twenty have the wise Guy voice, Like Hank's just doing
- 51:16Speaker 4: the wise Guy voice, but it's not drawn as the
- 51:18Speaker 4: wise Guy. Why just have it as a wise guy?
- 51:20Speaker 4: Why can't the wise Guy be selling hot tubs?
- 51:22Speaker 1: Why do they think?
- 51:23Speaker 4: You'd think it would be a natural But it's almost
- 51:25Speaker 4: like it was a decision to go because why would
- 51:28Speaker 4: Hank give him the wise guy voice? Because that's a character. Now,
- 51:31Speaker 4: why would you.
- 51:32Speaker 1: I'm not going to accuse Hank azaribing, no.
- 51:35Speaker 4: But yeah, but I feel like that's the kind of
- 51:37Speaker 4: thing that Hank would say, Hey, should I be using
- 51:41Speaker 4: this voice?
- 51:41Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 51:42Speaker 4: You feel it's a conversation that should be had because
- 51:44Speaker 4: it'd be the same as them going to a comic
- 51:46Speaker 4: book store and Hank using the comic book guy voice
- 51:49Speaker 4: for a different character. Wise Guy is an established character
- 51:52Speaker 4: in my opinion, now, don't you think.
- 51:53Speaker 1: Yeah, not as necessarily as well known as a comic
- 51:56Speaker 1: book guy to use your example.
- 51:57Speaker 4: No, not to the broader public, but to Simpsons fans,
- 51:59Speaker 4: he's a wise guy.
- 52:00Speaker 1: Well, he's number one in my heart. Yeah, yes, but yeah,
- 52:04Speaker 1: but why is the guy always different face?
- 52:06Speaker 4: Also, this is me whenever buying anything new, I've gotta
- 52:08Speaker 4: have the fanciest, nicest one for me. In particular, it's TVs.
- 52:11Speaker 4: When I'm going to get TV's, I'm gonna have the
- 52:13Speaker 4: biggest one they've got, right. I've had my eye on
- 52:14Speaker 4: the ninety eight inch Samsung TV for a long time, right,
- 52:17Speaker 4: and it keeps going down and down and down in price,
- 52:20Speaker 4: I says Nicola, What is at a certain point, I'll
- 52:22Speaker 4: sell this one like a grand the one we've got,
- 52:24Speaker 4: and then I'll just upgrade, right, put on the payment
- 52:26Speaker 4: plan after pay, not after pay. It's like sixty months
- 52:30Speaker 4: inches free. That's the one I claim for those things,
- 52:32Speaker 4: right because after you get yeah, six weeks and I'm
- 52:34Speaker 4: like I have eight grand, right now?
- 52:36Speaker 1: That's correct? Yeah, except there's they say interesting. I mean,
- 52:41Speaker 1: there's also kind of like, yeah, we're also throwing in
- 52:44Speaker 1: ten dollars.
- 52:45Speaker 4: Like either the monthly fee, like yeah, but it still
- 52:48Speaker 4: works that cheaper.
- 52:49Speaker 1: I know it does, but I was like, you even
- 52:53Speaker 1: wanted to make me read fine print.
- 52:54Speaker 4: Well, it's like more buying the couch. It was interest
- 52:57Speaker 4: free for so and so long. I think it was
- 52:59Speaker 4: fifty months into free for ten dollars a month, and
- 53:01Speaker 4: then you're also get a five hundred dollars gift card
- 53:03Speaker 4: for half a Norman. I was like, so, if I don't
- 53:05Speaker 4: pay it for fifty months, I've essentially given you five
- 53:07Speaker 4: hundred dollars, so you're not making it. So that's how
- 53:09Speaker 4: they suck people in. So we just bought it out right,
- 53:11Speaker 4: and I was like, favorite of dollars please, and I like, eh, shit.
- 53:15Speaker 4: But the thing is that with the TVs, there's ninety
- 53:17Speaker 4: eighty inch Samsung.
- 53:19Speaker 1: I said to Nickle.
- 53:20Speaker 4: The problem is I'm waiting for it to go down
- 53:22Speaker 4: and down and down in price, and by the time
- 53:24Speaker 4: it gets to the point where I can afford to
- 53:25Speaker 4: buy it, there's going to be an even bigger TV
- 53:28Speaker 4: than I want.
- 53:29Speaker 1: You're like eight K or something like yeah, yeah, I
- 53:31Speaker 1: think this is I think this is sixteen K.
- 53:33Speaker 4: Yeah, it's just going to be a new one. But
- 53:35Speaker 4: I guess so I feel of TV's is a point
- 53:37Speaker 4: now where they can't get any clearer, right, But we
- 53:39Speaker 4: probably said the same thing back in two thousand and two. Correct, Yeah,
- 53:42Speaker 4: but you know I'm gonna eventually get that TV But
- 53:44Speaker 4: that's me.
- 53:45Speaker 1: Are you like that? Though?
- 53:46Speaker 4: When you buy something new, it's like I'm gonna have
- 53:47Speaker 4: the fanciest one, or you're got the idea of having
- 53:49Speaker 4: the fanciest one, then you go, it really isn't in
- 53:51Speaker 4: my price range.
- 53:53Speaker 1: Sometimes yeah, I mean, not nearly as fancy as you
- 53:57Speaker 1: when it comes to TV's, but rage as I had
- 53:58Speaker 1: like the old school vacuum cleaner, you know, like the
- 54:01Speaker 1: big bulky thing and you know the holes coming out
- 54:03Speaker 1: of it, or like, yeah, I got to plug it
- 54:05Speaker 1: into the water.
- 54:05Speaker 4: So fun to suck the car back into it. Though
- 54:07Speaker 4: you push the button then obviously.
- 54:08Speaker 1: What's kind of but otherwise you know, I'm plugging it
- 54:10Speaker 1: in the wall like a savage, like a caveman, and
- 54:14Speaker 1: it's like, hey, have you heard about this dazzing thing?
- 54:16Speaker 1: And I'm like it seems kind of expensive. But then
- 54:19Speaker 1: of course came out of target, Well we've got our
- 54:21Speaker 1: cheap bass version, Like, well, how much difference get there be?
- 54:25Speaker 1: Turns out there's a bit. But I bought the blues.
- 54:30Speaker 1: I bought the Billini one from came and it worked
- 54:33Speaker 1: perfectly fine for it might have been Bellini by Ancho
- 54:39Speaker 1: or something like that. Meanwhile, The Love of Louise actually
- 54:44Speaker 1: bought like a proper diceon. And there'd be occasionally I
- 54:47Speaker 1: go over and like, honey, you're doing this. I'll do
- 54:49Speaker 1: a bit of vacuuming just for kicks, and it's like,
- 54:53Speaker 1: oh my god, yes, you can really feel the difference.
- 54:56Speaker 1: So you'll feel the difference. And when it came time
- 55:00Speaker 1: on Amazon's like yeah, normally I'm just looking at oh,
- 55:02Speaker 1: this book's on sale, all this blue rays on sales,
- 55:04Speaker 1: like they must have hurt they hurt me coming or
- 55:07Speaker 1: saw me coming, because like by the way, you know,
- 55:09Speaker 1: on Amazon Prime Day, this duce and there's like half price.
- 55:12Speaker 4: I'm like, so old, yeah, half price sales are the
- 55:16Speaker 4: best now.
- 55:16Speaker 1: Yeah, so now I've got this old yeah, this old
- 55:18Speaker 1: Belie me bi anger just gathering dust. I need to
- 55:20Speaker 1: use the dyson on that. Can you stay over there
- 55:22Speaker 1: and get dusty? Well, I'm like, oh, can I put
- 55:25Speaker 1: this on marketplace? And now no one's gonna want it,
- 55:27Speaker 1: so I'm just gonna have to put it out. Yeah,
- 55:29Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to do call it, call the cancel,
- 55:31Speaker 1: like hard rubbish timing and gays it's hard rubbish. How
- 55:34Speaker 1: good is hard run? It's brilliant. It's like a cleansing experience.
- 55:37Speaker 1: I know I've got I've got to do another. Yeah.
- 55:39Speaker 1: It's like it's like a colonic or an anime for
- 55:42Speaker 1: you for all the.
- 55:43Speaker 4: Ship that it's all the ship where you look at
- 55:45Speaker 4: and you go, how the fuck am I going to
- 55:46Speaker 4: get rid of this?
- 55:47Speaker 1: And you go, I know how, Yeah, call the cancel.
- 55:49Speaker 1: We'll take it away. I had this recently where I
- 55:52Speaker 1: had a bunch of stuff that I put in the backyard,
- 55:54Speaker 1: just like I need to get this out of the house.
- 55:55Speaker 1: I'm going to throw it away. It's not quite hard.
- 55:58Speaker 1: It was the cat. It was the cat, and then
- 56:03Speaker 1: at back under a Tarpet's like one of these days
- 56:06Speaker 1: I'll call hard rubby. I finally called hard rubbish. They said,
- 56:08Speaker 1: all right, we're coming around to pick it up. And
- 56:10Speaker 1: then I forgot forgot the day, and I was like, oh, no,
- 56:13Speaker 1: this is the day. Oh, that's the truck. They're coming.
- 56:16Speaker 1: They give you like a week's notice.
- 56:20Speaker 4: Well, make sure it's out at the beginning of the
- 56:22Speaker 4: week and we'll come sometime during that week.
- 56:24Speaker 1: It's they came on like the Monday, on the Monday
- 56:27Speaker 1: mornings like, oh shit, oh you're a hard rubbi custy.
- 56:32Speaker 1: Yes we are. You mean there. I was like, I'm
- 56:36Speaker 1: just getting a neck. Can you wait for two seconds?
- 56:39Speaker 1: They don't like waiting. No, So I managed to get
- 56:44Speaker 1: maybe three quarters of the stuff out, but there's still
- 56:46Speaker 1: a little bit more, but I'm adding watches the whole time.
- 56:49Speaker 1: Kind of we had a contract, buddy. Yeah, anyway, hard rubbish,
- 56:54Speaker 1: it's great hard rubbish removal, big fan. Getting rid of
- 56:57Speaker 1: hard rubbish is great. Oh yeah, absolutely yes.
- 57:00Speaker 4: But they beg Marge, can we please have it? And
- 57:02Speaker 4: Lisa needs to because, you know, really relieve stress, and
- 57:04Speaker 4: she's really stressed. Even Maggie holds up the sign that
- 57:07Speaker 4: says no dolls on an approved credit dolls down there,
- 57:10Speaker 4: So she even begs herself much like why am I
- 57:12Speaker 4: begging myself? A cast of them all in the hot
- 57:14Speaker 4: tub and barts is a line here that makes me
- 57:16Speaker 4: just sad. Now I know why lobsters let it that
- 57:18Speaker 4: squirre when they dropped in water like this, and I
- 57:19Speaker 4: was like, ah, I don't understand how people can possibly
- 57:22Speaker 4: do that.
- 57:23Speaker 1: Well, I'm allergic to shellfish.
- 57:25Speaker 4: I don't see fit. I'm just don't like it in general.
- 57:28Speaker 4: Really I do. I will eat fish and stuff, but
- 57:30Speaker 4: I'm just not a huge fan of it. The idea
- 57:31Speaker 4: of people dropping animals, living creatures into boiling water and
- 57:35Speaker 4: making them feel like that's how they're going out and
- 57:37Speaker 4: enough for me. No good, no good people, No, no,
- 57:41Speaker 4: not not nice at all.
- 57:43Speaker 1: I've had someone say it's the most humane way. I'm like,
- 57:45Speaker 1: is it really the nicest way? Dropping something in boiling
- 57:47Speaker 1: water and hearing it squeal, knowing it's in pain. It's
- 57:50Speaker 1: final moments in life where incredible pain. Yeah, terrible.
- 57:55Speaker 4: Yes, Well it's hard of the Simpsons because now we've
- 57:57Speaker 4: all had this love with Pinchy.
- 57:58Speaker 1: It's but lots.
- 57:59Speaker 4: Yeah, lobsters are they're friends now.
- 58:03Speaker 1: Even if they do it like claws and beats and shit.
- 58:05Speaker 4: So now they're all just enjoying themselves in the in
- 58:07Speaker 4: the spa and they're attracting the swingers who include the Hibbits.
- 58:10Speaker 4: They've made no secret now that the Hibbitts are in
- 58:12Speaker 4: keep some funky stuff. Yeah, discoes to there. Missus Kate
- 58:15Speaker 4: not married, so why is she a swinger?
- 58:18Speaker 1: That's true. I thought you had to be at least
- 58:19Speaker 1: in a relationship. Maybe. I think maybe if you want
- 58:22Speaker 1: to impose your sexuality on an existing couple, that sort
- 58:25Speaker 1: of makes swing.
- 58:26Speaker 4: There for the three ways of whatever. Okay, so she's
- 58:29Speaker 4: Homo scares them away, says go back to your day spas,
- 58:31Speaker 4: and March suggests they should get out, but Homer puts
- 58:33Speaker 4: on the bubbles again, said no, let's stay all night,
- 58:35Speaker 4: and Flanders wakes up the middle of the night says,
- 58:37Speaker 4: cool your jets, which was a nice pun. Says I'm
- 58:39Speaker 4: trying to get some sleep. But they offer for him
- 58:41Speaker 4: to come in as well, but he's afraid of getting
- 58:42Speaker 4: his mustache wet, so he jumps in with his little
- 58:45Speaker 4: what you got a mustache neck mustache guard.
- 58:47Speaker 1: Yes, it's always nice to be reminded that Ned is,
- 58:49Speaker 1: in fact yoked. He is indeed.
- 58:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I notice when he's walking off, its almost like
- 58:52Speaker 4: the walk of shame in the morning, a son's coming up.
- 58:55Speaker 4: He's walking off back home again, and it's almost they're going,
- 58:58Speaker 4: we're forgetting something here. It almost like it was urged
- 59:00Speaker 4: and I've think of something on the fridge, and homes
- 59:02Speaker 4: is probably reminded to relax more so they turn them
- 59:04Speaker 4: back up and they sleep. It is now the senior
- 59:06Speaker 4: family picnic. That's what it was at the retirement home.
- 59:10Speaker 4: And Grandpa is missing out on being a part of
- 59:11Speaker 4: the father's son Willbarrow race because the family aren't there.
- 59:15Speaker 4: He tries to jump in front of the gun, but
- 59:16Speaker 4: they just blanks.
- 59:19Speaker 1: Wait, what happened to the bottles?
- 59:21Speaker 2: You got for nothing jellyfish while you were lying here
- 59:24Speaker 2: silking like a bunch of dirty dishes.
- 59:26Speaker 1: I was lonelier than nstist Keith.
- 59:28Speaker 2: Hover at a meaning of murder incorporated that actually makes sense?
- 59:34Speaker 2: Look it up?
- 59:35Speaker 4: Which makes sense? Do you want to explain why indeed
- 59:38Speaker 4: actually lifted up there?
- 59:39Speaker 1: I not here. I suppose I just look up Keith Albert.
- 59:41Speaker 4: Yeah, it's almost like not trying to tell us you
- 59:43Speaker 4: do the research for this, mate, You do the work here.
- 59:45Speaker 1: But yeah, yeah. His main claim to fame was he
- 59:47Speaker 1: ran the Senate hearings against organized crime in the US
- 59:50Speaker 1: in I believe the nineteen fifty fifty. Yeah. Yeah, and
- 59:53Speaker 1: murder Incorporated. Well that's the that's the mob. That's the
- 59:56Speaker 1: sort of the blanket term for the organized crime responsible
- 59:58Speaker 1: for thousands of deaths indeed hits. It's a business, yes,
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: murder and corporate. They took the name seriously. So when
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: he pulls the hot tub hole dope name, it's murder Incorporated.
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: So good do I think that, like, that's legitimate business
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: name where murdering corporated? Then he I think the hot
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: tub burst. Something happens and they all flap around like fish,
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: which when doesn't he kick it? You know what it is?
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: He kicks it? Ok? Yeah, it falls apart. Yeah, and
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: they're all flopping around. Yeah yeah yeah.
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: He tries to explain to them that he hasn't got
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: much time left. This is why it makes me upset
- 1:00:30Speaker 4: that you missed these things, because the wasted day like
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: this is one that I'll ever get back. I'm thirty
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: six and I'm already starting to feel this way. I'm like,
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: what a waste of a day. Why am I not
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: taking making the most of this day? I'm sitting around
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: doing nothing. I should be out riding a bike, you know,
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: putting bubbles in the bath.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: When you've got to give yourself a little time for
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: self care, and self care can manages itself. Is just
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: like doing nothing. I mean, yeah, you know what it is.
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: I had a realization recently that I'm probably almost at
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: the halfway mark of life.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: I went, wow, halfway.
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: Here, and it feels like and it hasn't gone by
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: like that, but it feels like when you get to
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: these it feels like it's flown bygger hasn't. But he
- 1:01:06Speaker 4: gets a point where you go.
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: I don't think you're at the halfway market.
- 1:01:10Speaker 4: I think you're I'm halfway to being old.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Oh certainly. Oh yeah, look I say all the time,
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: I'm on the back nine of my life. Yeah absolutely
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: I am. Yeah, I probably got what it maybe twenty
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: five good summers left.
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: So this is where Grandpa hands them the note and
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: because he says, says, I never realized you had dreams
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: and emotions and whatnot. So he gives them the note
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: of things he's always wanted to do, and he had
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: the list. And the list is, as we mentioned earlier,
- 1:01:37Speaker 4: pitch in.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: The Negro League.
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: There's at least two problems with that. You can't read
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: the one with the thumb over it, which will see
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: the Chrysler building. Now, I'm glad that I didn't freeze
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: framing go back right, because it would have ruined the
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: joke for later on. But it says here have one
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: more Bureau of flun against pub right, and under it
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: it said get cheated, And I was like, there's a
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: guy there kindly bothered. I'm glad it pays off later, right.
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: So another good vision. You're gay here where the pubs
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: in Ireland? And it's just them looking up at the plane.
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: I think it was a dairy air. Is that the
- 1:02:07Speaker 4: plane line? The yeah a play on Deiry correct.
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: Welcome to Ireland also known as the Emerald Isle, Potatoville,
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: East Boston, Freckled Bog, the Land of Poetry and the
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: Land of bad Poetry. And on your left you'll see
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: Western Ireland. On your right you'll see Kathy Ireland.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: Hi everyone.
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: Apparently there was a press release for the episode when
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: it was first being put together of them saying Kathy
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: Islands in the episode. Maybe she was going to be
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: in it, and then she pulled out last minute. I'm
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: not too sure, but there was Trust McNeil who did
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: the voice indeed, do you think our listeners will be
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: aware of Kathy Island is slash.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: Ones tell us who it is? Well, a supermodel of
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: the nineteen eighties, very big on sports illustration. I believe,
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: just had that very all American girl kind of thing
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: going on. But the super pretty version of the all
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: American girl also had a very squeaky event. All American girls,
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: not pretty, not all American girls like what I did there. Anyway,
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: She also had a very squeaky voice. Okay. Also put
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: a name on a lot of stuff like at grills
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: and whatnot, more like like the Island Grill. I think
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: maybe discount apparel that you would find at k martin
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: Target in the pre Ancho days us is in like
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: low rent stuff. Yeah maybe, Okay do it you gotta

- 1:03:57Speaker 4: story of how we visited the pub for the first time,
- 1:04:00Speaker 4: singing this song in the life This is the life
- 1:04:01Speaker 4: in Ireland. Good song, fun song. Sure, I've got a
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: kick out of the cabbage and the corn beef coming
- 1:04:07Speaker 4: out of the tap corn beef being I think we
- 1:04:09Speaker 4: call it silver side.
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: Right, that's belief.
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: So yeah, I haven't had silver side in so long,
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: but my nan used to love silver side sandwiches. So
- 1:04:17Speaker 4: when we go to Nansa, it's like, do you have
- 1:04:18Speaker 4: any silver side?
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: And acts, of.
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: Course, what's one thing that you have memory wise of
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: going to your NaN's place and her opening the door
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: to a new world for me, it was she was
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: the first person who ever cooked chips at home but
- 1:04:35Speaker 4: made them out of potatoes. So I watched her actually
- 1:04:38Speaker 4: cut them. I was like, no, no, I want potatoes
- 1:04:40Speaker 4: from the fish and chips and I can make them home.
- 1:04:41Speaker 4: And I was like, I was like, I make it
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: burger better than it done, or orind of thing right. And
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: she made these chips and I was went, holy shit,
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: this is incredible. And then she introduced me to this
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: chicken salt. I was like, oh wow, my life was
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: never the same. So did your name ever do something
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: where you went, oh shit.
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: Not really mind Nana. Nana Davis was already sort of
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: fair along the road by the time. Okay, yeah, because
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: you were like the ten years I was laking line
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: and all that kind of business. Always some very nice sweets.
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: I was gonna say, what, what's like a food memory?
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: You have? More like there has been tins of quality
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: straight around the joint. You're not eating them teeth.
- 1:05:18Speaker 4: My name needs to love having peppermints. Oh yeah, I
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: always had mints. And I was like, my mom didn't
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: need him, my dad didn't need him.
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: But I move. I went to NaN's. I can have
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: some peppermints.
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: Yeah, good old man, miss you Nan. But so they
- 1:05:53Speaker 4: arrived in Ireland singing the Somber but telling about how
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: he visited that was it like it wasn't after the war.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: Anything wasn't. He was just I feel like he was
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: dressing his arm. It felt that way. It didn't.
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: Yeah, but it never explained why he was out in
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: the first place.
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: He was just there. Well do we have like a
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: documented history of I mean, we've got episodes involving Grandad's
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: wartime exploits. But I guess he fought in Europe more
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: than he than say, the Pacific Theater. Yeah. Yeah, it
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: makes sense that he would probably end up being somewhere
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: in island. Yeah, but they arrive in Duncanderry. The Celtic
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: translation is the same, yep. And it looks like a
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: puzzle at the pedi Eutician's office. That's Trueland is just lovely. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: that's the thing with England.
- 1:06:30Speaker 4: England is not my favorite place in regards to having
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: a holiday because I'm not a history buff. Right, if
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: you like history, it's amazing. I'm more your typical nerd
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: who likes to go to theme parks and that kind
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: of stuff. Right, That's I'm not saying England's bad, right,
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: but it's just I after I've seen a couple of castles,
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: I'm like, a castle is a castle to me. Sure,
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: that's kind of thing, but I can't deny that it's
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: all just incredibly beautiful.
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, Oh, the word verdant springs to mind
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: when you go to island. It's green. Everything is green.
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: I mean one of they called the Emerala. But yeah,
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: it's just oh this is nice, this is beautiful.
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: But Grandpa, they can't believe that it's all modern. Now
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: everything's up there. It's upscale boutiques and yupricorns talking about
- 1:07:11Speaker 4: holidays in Tuscany or something. Someone's in Tuscany. Yeah, that
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: upmarket yuprecorn. And there was a visual gag because a
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: few signs of one. There was one about getting your
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: freckles fixed up or something. But I loved the You
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: two removal. We move in mysterious ways. See again, I'm
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: glad they didn't just go I know they've already had
- 1:07:28Speaker 4: You two on, but they could have had Bono on
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: again and that kind of thing, but they didn't. They
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: just they focused on Ireland, the country itself. Yeah, Lisa says,
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: it makes sense because Ireland is now at the forefront
- 1:07:38Speaker 4: of Europe. The europe tech boom. Hewlett Fitzpackard was one
- 1:07:42Speaker 4: of them. Is Microsoft, Microsoft, Microsoft and Cisco Systems, and
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: the pub is there and it's now next to bog
- 1:07:48Speaker 4: Bath and beyond. But the pub is still there, old
- 1:07:51Speaker 4: Tomo Flanagan. He hasn't sold out.
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: He' kept his place.
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: And they arrive and there and they see Tomas watching
- 1:07:55Speaker 4: the horse race from nineteen seventy nine in the old
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: room at the back, and he says, I'm just an
- 1:07:59Speaker 4: old man. Yeah at me tapes and it's been years since.
- 1:08:02Speaker 4: This is another gag like this been years since I
- 1:08:04Speaker 4: sold a pint. It's like, you mean piney. It's been
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: so long after forgot how to say it. I don't
- 1:08:09Speaker 4: know how to say pube.
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: Yes.
- 1:08:11Speaker 4: They then ask for a beer and he can't believe
- 1:08:13Speaker 4: it either, like, oh my god, I actually sell something.
- 1:08:15Speaker 4: And but he tries to order something much as you can't,
- 1:08:18Speaker 4: because we're going to go see some sights, but he
- 1:08:20Speaker 4: wants to watch the German Krusty. We get a clip
- 1:08:22Speaker 4: of German Krusty. The German voice is just a fun
- 1:08:24Speaker 4: accent to take the mickey out of it. Of course,
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: if he's done a time and time again, of course
- 1:08:27Speaker 4: I love to do it.
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: But at the same time, why would they be showing
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: German Krusty in Ireland.
- 1:08:33Speaker 4: That is a very good point. I didn't even sort
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: of pick up on that.
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: In the moment. Yeah, that doesn't make sense at all.
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: Play in German. Yeah, that is weird.
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: But she says that that's not how family vacations work
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: here on the Simpsons. The way they work is we
- 1:08:46Speaker 4: do things together and your father has fun doing something
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: without us.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: Nice meta comment here. Yes.
- 1:08:50Speaker 4: Tom then suggests a delicious Australian charaz called Koala's Leap Charaz,
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: and he says, no, I want a I want an
- 1:08:57Speaker 4: Irish drink. So he says, all right, a Bushman's whiskey
- 1:08:59Speaker 4: served in a floating in a Guinness stout a stout. Yeah,
- 1:09:04Speaker 4: Guinness is a stout.
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: Guinness is a stout.
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: Okay, it's bush Mills by the way, bush Mill said, okay, sorry,
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: Bushman's bush Mill.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: Sorry.
- 1:09:11Speaker 4: So the stouts what I had at the word of
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: the rings. Maybe it's something similar, I'm not too sure.
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: But so I on an Irish drink and he spits
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: in it. He has that's much better. And the family. Now,
- 1:09:19Speaker 4: when I say the family, by the way, this is
- 1:09:20Speaker 4: I'm referring to everyone but Homer. So the family are
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: at the Giant's causeway. Now we get a gag here, basically,
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: so Cubert right, So that's the game. That's a game, right, yeah,
- 1:09:30Speaker 4: video game. Yes, I forgot to look up cubitt So
- 1:09:33Speaker 4: Cuban's a little I know it. It looks like he's in
- 1:09:34Speaker 4: like recket Ralph and things like that.
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: My little schnos and all that kind of I'm looking.
- 1:09:38Speaker 4: At the pitch here, so that that's basically what it
- 1:09:40Speaker 4: looks like.
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: It leaps from square to square to come and get
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: at the top of this little pyramid. Kind of. Yeah,
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: go on. By the way, I'm ascribing gender to Cubert,
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: Cuba could very easily be non binary or even female.
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: Who knows.
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: Again, one of those gags that if as a kid
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: you have no do what it is, you're like, this
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: is obviously something.
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, And I think I was.
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: I was going to touch on this earlier talking about
- 1:09:58Speaker 4: how we're talking about the word or gas, right, and
- 1:10:00Speaker 4: where the kids would say, what's this word mean? I
- 1:10:02Speaker 4: think when you're a kid watching it, right, you almost
- 1:10:04Speaker 4: don't want to have to ask what does this mean,
- 1:10:06Speaker 4: because you want to sort of think I should.
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: Know what this means.
- 1:10:09Speaker 4: Sure, yeah, So it's just oh, yeah, that's just the joke.
- 1:10:11Speaker 4: I'm going to laugh because I want to feel smart.
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: And intelligent.
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: As you get older, you actually learn what it means. Yeah.
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: Then they're at the Guinness factory and the tour guides
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: she says, oh, you want to know the recipe. I won't
- 1:10:23Speaker 4: tell you because then it wouldn't be a secret. But
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: then they walk off and Lisa sneaks in and it's
- 1:10:27Speaker 4: just the brewing room and it's just a guy with
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: bog water and chocolate chocolate syrup is what it is,
- 1:10:33Speaker 4: and the ratio is fifty to fifty. Then they're at
- 1:10:34Speaker 4: Mcallis Island. Kind of feels like getting through the more
- 1:10:37Speaker 4: quickly is It's like location, location, location, location of Blandy Stone.
- 1:10:40Speaker 4: You've got a story you mentioned earlier, said you kissed it, right.
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: That's true. Yes, the legend of Blandy Stone is that
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: if you kiss it, they say in an episode, you
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: get the gift of the gap, you get a bit
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: of a silver tonel work for me anyway, But I
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: was nineteen seventy nine. We were traveling through Ireland and
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: you know, near the blinding Stone, so it's like, all right,
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: well you might as well do it. I mean, I
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: don't think Mum and Dad actually kissed it, because the
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: way they present it here. I don't know, maybe they
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: do it differently now. But to kiss the Blarney Stone
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: when I did it, you have to sort of lie
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: down on your back, lean down through this little sort
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: of hole and the blandy stone is, yeah, kind of
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: on the underside of something. So it's it's not death.
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: It's not death defying or anything like that.
- 1:11:22Speaker 4: Isn't it how it was in this episode though, because
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: Bart was behind the wall. Well yeah, but the people
- 1:11:27Speaker 4: who were lying out to kiss the bloney signe were
- 1:11:28Speaker 4: just sort of getting on their knees and leaning down
- 1:11:30Speaker 4: and giving it a kiss, whereas you have to lie
- 1:11:32Speaker 4: on your back, your back and go under under. Yes, yeah,
- 1:11:36Speaker 4: that's kind of weird. It's a like a glory hole
- 1:11:39Speaker 4: a little bit. Yes, But close your eyes you'll have
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: a surprise.
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: Well I certainly did because I kissed it and all that.
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: But then I don't think I've been feeling bad before,
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: but walking back to the car, because I mean it's
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: a little bit of a trek and all that, I
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: started to feel really sick and I think I just
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: had like a I think I had a bad sand
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: that was Uncle Frank's blindy stone. I think i'd had
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: a bad sandwich that morning or something bad burrito burrito. Yes,
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: but I distinctly remember walking back to the other I
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: feel so good, like I was about to throw up
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: or whatever. And some American tourists are walking past, and
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: you know, it was like your stereotypical American tourists tank
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: tops on glass. Kid, did you kiss the blowney stone?
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: I said yeah, and I'm gonna throw up. They looked
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: at me. What so do they clean it after you
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: kiss it? What's the go That's a really good question.
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: It's it's weird. Yeah, this was nineteen seventy nine. I
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: think we had wasn't really a big issue then. But no,
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: I definitely kissed the Blarney Stone and my life was
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: never the same.
- 1:12:49Speaker 4: But before they get to the Blarney Stone, though, it's
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: Micallis Island and there they returning immigrants who are sick
- 1:12:56Speaker 4: of America. They get processed by the Irish authorities and
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: they say you're so and so. Now it's like I'm
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: John Smith. Where now your son told me next week? Yeah,
- 1:13:03Speaker 4: they give him all the Irish names. They make one
- 1:13:05Speaker 4: guy a brother and they shake hands. No, no, your brothers,
- 1:13:08Speaker 4: Oh okay, we're not supposed to be nice to each other.
- 1:13:10Speaker 4: Then the bloody stone you're mentioning there, you get the
- 1:13:12Speaker 4: gift of the game of you kiss it much concerned
- 1:13:14Speaker 4: by this? Should we be encouraging kissing. I'm sure that's
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: what Lisa should be doing. Then Bart goes down paints
- 1:13:19Speaker 4: his backside.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: Okay s m y a, yes, spells kiss my ass.
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: I'll surprised me.
- 1:13:28Speaker 4: He says, like k I s s s m I
- 1:13:30Speaker 4: M y A says kiss my ass, and I was like, OK, whatever, sure,
- 1:13:34Speaker 4: but he just paints. So he paints his ass so
- 1:13:36Speaker 4: it looks like a rock bends down. Unfortunately, the Nelson
- 1:13:39Speaker 4: of Ireland is there and hesides the carve his name
- 1:13:41Speaker 4: and as well. Horror. Yes, the guys are now drinking
- 1:13:45Speaker 4: at the pub and they wake up the next day
- 1:13:47Speaker 4: and realize that they in fact brought to the pub.
- 1:13:49Speaker 4: He shows them the photos to prove it with the
- 1:13:50Speaker 4: loan officer and the guy from the insurance company and whatnot.
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: And he's also a front of him fixing the windows
- 1:13:55Speaker 4: for term damage as part of the escro escrow agreement.
- 1:13:59Speaker 4: And then he says, you know what, blind drunks, you
- 1:14:00Speaker 4: guys have excellent knowledge for real estate law. And he
- 1:14:03Speaker 4: just walks out and that's the end of Tommy. He's gone.
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: He sold his pub and he's out. And Homer asks
- 1:14:07Speaker 4: if this was on your list, and this is the
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: joke I was mentioning earlier. He goes, well, in fact,
- 1:14:11Speaker 4: it was because the next one was getting cheated by
- 1:14:13Speaker 4: a nourishmn Homa says, do the next one was annoying
- 1:14:16Speaker 4: my son. And underneath that, did you see what I said?
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: See NBC go under?
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: Oh that's right, yes, yeah, I don't think that's gonna
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: be happening anytime soon. See TV go under? Well, it's
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: a TV network.
- 1:14:28Speaker 4: Could TV networks just become like Max for example, like
- 1:14:31Speaker 4: could that just become teens?
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: Well?
- 1:14:32Speaker 4: T T just cease to exist and it's just it's
- 1:14:34Speaker 4: just streaming now it's just ten.
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: I think they'll still be. There'll still be commercial networks
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: like NBC and have to be free to air. I
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: think that's there still will be for some time. I
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: think I think there's too many generations that are still
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: used to it. And here's the thing. I'm sure I've
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: said this in the past, but now everyone talks about, oh,
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: streaming shows like and they're always the hot thing, like
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: Succession or something like a White Lotus or whatever you
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: appearing on cable or on streaming Bear or the Bear. Yeah,
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: usually the numbers for those shows are like everyone's talking
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: about it, but not that many people are watching it.
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: Only theavy bill are watching it. Meanwhile, you know your
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: shows like say FBI International or Chicago Med all that
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: stuff that's on free to wear.
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: And there are especially heinous.
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: Yeah, they're not. You do the rest where they're not
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: getting the publicity or anything like that. It's like, oh,
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: this isn't that cool to what And they're not getting
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: the huge numbers that they used to. But three or
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: four more twice as many people are as what watching
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: an episode of FBI International as say Succession. So yeah,
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: it's still there and it's still viable. It's just yeah,
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: people aren't talking about it. People aren't talking about and
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: it's not quite as lucrative as it used to be,
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: but it's still pretty lucrative.
- 1:15:50Speaker 4: So Grabby going through all the various drinks, he finds
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: it brandy, it's because it's fifty years old?
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: Is it out? Over?
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: Then tries encouraging some people to drink Hey.
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: Boy, you.
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: How about a tall, cool one? How about you green sleeves?
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: Irish men love to get drunk. I'm in a who
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: are you stuttering?
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: Funzie?
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: What about your bicycle pants?
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: I'm late for a teleconference with Hong Kong.
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: Your fat god?
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: Yuck yuck, First sale, I first refund.
- 1:16:25Speaker 4: It's now blooms Day, which is every June sixteen. Lovers
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: of Jangs Joyce that you mentioned earlier, follow the route
- 1:16:31Speaker 4: traveled by Leopold Bloom in the novel. Ulysses yes, and
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: but then takes notes for this and he says, next
- 1:16:36Speaker 4: time visit Scotland. So basically saying it's basically what you're
- 1:16:39Speaker 4: saying here is we've run out of fun things to do. Yeah,
- 1:16:41Speaker 4: that's pretty much what's happened here. Then we get a
- 1:16:43Speaker 4: cameo from the two guests.
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: From Glenn and Marquette.
- 1:16:47Speaker 4: Yeah, from Once pretty much just is it just taking
- 1:16:48Speaker 4: Mickey out the film?
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: You think this? I think so. Yeah. I fact that
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: it's all a story of if not unrequired love, then
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: love that just wrong place, wrong time. It would have
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: felt relevant at the time of this episode aired. Yeah, certainly.
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: The song Falling Slow and it was Once was a
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: pretty a big deal around this time. Not a huge deal,
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: but it was in the zeitgeist enough the equivalent.
- 1:17:08Speaker 4: No, the equivalent of this would be maybe for example,
- 1:17:11Speaker 4: yet Michael caitin in to say, Talum, he's dreaming, that
- 1:17:13Speaker 4: would be would be the equivalent of this now, where
- 1:17:16Speaker 4: in twenty twenty five that reference would be lost. But
- 1:17:19Speaker 4: I think that's that's become part of our culture now
- 1:17:20Speaker 4: Talim's dreaming.
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: I think so, yeah, straight to the poor room all
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: that kind of Yeah, but a lot of lines from
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: the castle have become embedded.
- 1:17:27Speaker 4: But outside of Australia, I don't think so.
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: Oh no, they think they tried really hard to make
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: the castle like world renowned. Yeah.
- 1:17:33Speaker 4: I think Mirramacs bought it really and it's too ousy,
- 1:17:37Speaker 4: isn't it. It is because they were like, oh the
- 1:17:39Speaker 4: full Monty is very English and we took it to
- 1:17:41Speaker 4: America and it did all right. Maybe we can do
- 1:17:43Speaker 4: there is great and castles pretty good too. Yeah, but
- 1:17:46Speaker 4: it's not British humor. It is, but it's kind of universe.
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: Not the humor isn't funny because it's British. It's got
- 1:17:53Speaker 4: the great thing of like everyone can relate to this situation. Yeah,
- 1:17:57Speaker 4: but it's being told in an English accent and a
- 1:17:59Speaker 4: very specific shack as well. So if you feel like, oh,
- 1:18:02Speaker 4: I get this, but I'm also getting an education or
- 1:18:05Speaker 4: I'm learning something new, or it's like, honey, let's try.
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: Is it called Rogan, Josh? Is it like Joe Rogan?
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: You know, yeah, you're trying something's a little bit different.
- 1:18:15Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's a charming movie that last time we
- 1:18:18Speaker 4: actually do the full Monty He's can't but Smiley's fantastic.
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: And yeah, and The Castle is a very good movie
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: as well. It is.
- 1:18:23Speaker 4: Indeed, if you haven't watched The Castle, check it out.
- 1:18:26Speaker 4: You might not get it. But hopefully if you listen
- 1:18:28Speaker 4: to this show long enough you might get the jokes
- 1:18:29Speaker 4: a bit more. Certainly, Yes, but Homer has an idea
- 1:18:33Speaker 4: and how we need to think of ideas and how
- 1:18:34Speaker 4: to make money from a pub has no customers and
- 1:18:37Speaker 4: zero charm. So you think he's ordered in mo but no,
- 1:18:40Speaker 4: that he's just got there. Let's how you fly coach
- 1:18:41Speaker 4: with duck. Now he's in the box and whatnot. And
- 1:18:43Speaker 4: he says you need to let people do things in
- 1:18:45Speaker 4: bars that others won't be What about the law, the
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: law that joke, as you said, joke. So they go
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: looking for ideas what are people are allowed to do anymore?
- 1:18:52Speaker 4: And they see the gay liprecorns in a in a
- 1:18:55Speaker 4: bar okay. Then they see in Darby o guzlans that
- 1:19:00Speaker 4: there's a policy of no smoking. They be oh, wait,
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: had a smoke? He in pumps here anymore? Much like
- 1:19:05Speaker 4: butt out. Correct. My Ron has clearly been to Ireland
- 1:19:08Speaker 4: and most says we should open up a smoke easy,
- 1:19:10Speaker 4: don't make it no, make it so people can come
- 1:19:12Speaker 4: here a smoke. It's a business. Immediately booze and everyone's happy.
- 1:19:16Speaker 4: Everyone's saying thank you to Grandpa for doing this pub.
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: Well duh, it looks like oh your der have come
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: to ah my son's first stroke. Look at all this
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: your old dough shamrock. Sure love there, tobaccy.
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: So it's a smoke keyser, you'ran and then so escape
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: when you're thinking of then I can't tell them those
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: are questions or statements, So it's our syntax are criticizing.
- 1:19:48Speaker 4: Then again, little things like that, like that's just it's
- 1:19:50Speaker 4: not taking the mickey out of the languages it but
- 1:19:52Speaker 4: it is.
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: But it's in a nice way y. Our Irish friends
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: will refer to Dad as Da.
- 1:19:56Speaker 4: Sometimes I say to Nickel, whenever she mocks the Aussie accent,
- 1:19:58Speaker 4: mocks our language, I go, that's weird in it. She
- 1:20:01Speaker 4: has played that's always fallback, So it's come at syntax.
- 1:20:07Speaker 4: You're criticizing man. And so they close it down and
- 1:20:10Speaker 4: put water on the cigarette, so it goes down and
- 1:20:11Speaker 4: they back him up the air put it in an
- 1:20:13Speaker 4: evidence bag, which I thought was quite funny, and they
- 1:20:15Speaker 4: throw them in the US wagon.
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: That's right, forgot about the paddy wagon. That was good. Yeah,
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: that was good.
- 1:20:24Speaker 4: At the police station here, I thought you would have
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: loved this, the in and outsign at the police station.
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: Oh that's right. Yeah, Well this is a stage where
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: some troubled times. Well, Colin Farrell was a bit of
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: a bad boy.
- 1:20:36Speaker 4: Was this after he was he was dead Bullseye?
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: Wasn't he bulls?
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: That was earlier in that's like two thousand and three.
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: It was Bullseye and Dead. A very good performance. You
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: love that one. Yeah, you just love Colin Farrell. I
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: like Colin Farrell very much. My buddy Mark in the
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: States created a show that Farrell started. It's called sugar
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: and it's on the Apple TV network. Oh yes, indeed,
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: I just wanted to drop a name there. But no,
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: I've liked Farrell pretty much from the get go. But
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: this was around the time I mentioned I mentioned the
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: Miami Vice movie on the movie guy with Lennon was
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: not impressed. I'm like, yeah, well bring it around in
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: my way of thinking, buddy.
- 1:21:16Speaker 4: But the thing is, Malton didn't grow up in the
- 1:21:18Speaker 4: era you were a team when Miami.
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: Vice was on. Well, it's true, but the Miami Vice
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: Movie is very different to the show.
- 1:21:23Speaker 4: Okay, not Gonstasky in huch kind of deal.
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: Not really, No, No, I mean there's no you know,
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: oh we're doing a techno remix of the iconic Miami
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: Vice theme or anything like that. There's no cameos by
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: Don Donson. It's just a name. It's just the name
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: and and the concept of like these are undercover vice
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: cops in Miami. Very very good movie, very serious. But yeah,
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: Farrell's in it. Farrell apparently doesn't really remember making a
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: lot of it. Oh wow, okay, yeah, yeah, he was
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: kind of under the influence at the time. I think
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: it was post It's probably around this era that he
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: started to steer away from that sort of straighten up
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: and fly right. It was huge at the time that
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: my phone booth came out and stuff. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: I mean I think people saw him and Hollywood saw
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: him and said, yeah, we can do something with this guy.
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: You know, he's got a lot of got a lot
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: of charm, got a lot of energy, is very very sexy,
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: all that kind of business. But yeah, he liked to
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: burn it at both ends, and they wanted to make
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: him do a leading man and he had to step
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: away for a little while and then come back as like, no,
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: I can actually act and play like actual characters as
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: opposed to just be Colin Farrell. But yeah, isn't he
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: he is the Penguin. Yeah, you get his own film
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: or something. He's getting his film. He's got his own
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: serious because he was in The Batman, Sir Robert Pattinson
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: and got a spin off series, The Seriously that is
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: it and it's apparently very very good. I haven't seen
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: it yet, But because he was in another movie, The
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: Gentleman or something, Yes, the Guy Richie movie The Gym.
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: Couldn't that Oh yeah, that's what they He doesn't miss often.
- 1:22:51Speaker 4: Because Marlton mentioned this. Maybe it was a people don't
- 1:22:57Speaker 4: go to It was kids aren't going to the movies anymore.
- 1:22:59Speaker 4: Just sake of going to the movies. I'll go watch
- 1:23:01Speaker 4: a film at the movies, but they're not going to
- 1:23:03Speaker 4: let's go to the movies.
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: The Gentleman.
- 1:23:05Speaker 4: It's one of those films where nickol and I would
- 1:23:07Speaker 4: have just went out for dinner. We went to the movies, like,
- 1:23:09Speaker 4: what's the time.
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:23:10Speaker 4: We went there and we sort of looked at me.
- 1:23:11Speaker 4: We went the Gentleman, what's this about? I was like, go,
- 1:23:13Speaker 4: Rechi directed it. Let's just check it out. And we
- 1:23:16Speaker 4: both really enjoyed it, you know, and I just have
- 1:23:18Speaker 4: that memory of when everything the Gentleman, like, oh, we're
- 1:23:19Speaker 4: out to dinner. He thought, what's what else can we do?
- 1:23:21Speaker 4: Let's go to the movies. We had no idea of
- 1:23:23Speaker 4: what the film was about. We just went in and
- 1:23:25Speaker 4: enjoyed it.
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: That's a good way to go.
- 1:23:27Speaker 4: Because who else was Hugh Grant was also Great Grand Center.
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: Yeah, matthem conaugheyes in it. Yeah, good movie. Yes it's
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: an okay movie. I don't like it.
- 1:23:36Speaker 4: We were surprised, like, oh, it's just nice when you
- 1:23:38Speaker 4: just go into a movie and it says you have
- 1:23:39Speaker 4: no idea what's gonna be about, you come out going, Well,
- 1:23:41Speaker 4: that wasn't a waste of my time.
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, there's a lot of good stuff in it,
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: and Colin Farrell is certainly one of that year. But
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: this was a stage when this episode came out. It's like,
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: oh yeah, this guy's sort of pushing it.
- 1:23:50Speaker 4: But they have him as out at the moment that
- 1:23:53Speaker 4: the wall out is in red, which will make you
- 1:23:54Speaker 4: assume that he's not in the police station at this
- 1:23:56Speaker 4: point in time. Yeah, but Grandpa blamed himself for all
- 1:23:59Speaker 4: this situation.
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: Folding Homer says, I don't worry.
- 1:24:01Speaker 4: We'll get out of here somehow because America, where the
- 1:24:03Speaker 4: New York Yankees of country is powerful respected until about
- 1:24:05Speaker 4: the year two thousand.
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: That's true.
- 1:24:07Speaker 4: I remember as a kid when it came to baseball teams,
- 1:24:10Speaker 4: the New York Yankees was like everyone had the New
- 1:24:11Speaker 4: York Yankees' hats onything like that put up a meme.
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: Recently as well.
- 1:24:15Speaker 4: I can't really explain why, and people are seeing them
- 1:24:18Speaker 4: to put it down to the colors, right, But when
- 1:24:20Speaker 4: it came to the NBA, everyone knew Michael Jordan. Everyone
- 1:24:23Speaker 4: loved the Chicago Bulls because of Michael Jordan. Was in
- 1:24:25Speaker 4: space time the dream to he was Michael Jordan. Right,
- 1:24:28Speaker 4: But every kid wanted to have a Charlotte Hornet's basketball,
- 1:24:32Speaker 4: right because I just had fucking great colors. It was
- 1:24:35Speaker 4: the teal and the black and it just now sometimes
- 1:24:37Speaker 4: you just get mixes of colors and you go, these
- 1:24:40Speaker 4: just look great together.
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:24:41Speaker 4: Oh, and you just looked fucking like so many kids
- 1:24:44Speaker 4: used to walk around with Charlotte hats on all the basketball.
- 1:24:47Speaker 4: You did never see the basketball game in your life,
- 1:24:49Speaker 4: but it just looked cool, you know.
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: And then, as I was saying, we.
- 1:24:52Speaker 4: Got to a point where all sporting codes just tried
- 1:24:55Speaker 4: to the mascots couldn't look fun anymore. They had to
- 1:24:57Speaker 4: look all professional and whatnot. The nineties the AFL logos
- 1:25:01Speaker 4: to the half cat. You look at the nineties logan
- 1:25:03Speaker 4: and go, bring this ship back like it was fun.
- 1:25:06Speaker 4: Now it's also professional. And what's the term where they
- 1:25:09Speaker 4: try to make minimize everything minimalistic?
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: No, bring characters back. I agree with you. I mean,
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: I'm wondering we are what the I think partly's like, oh,
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: we're trying to be cool. Partly it's like it'd be
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: good at kids could draw this with a few lines
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: as possible to have.
- 1:25:26Speaker 4: But kids aren't trying to draw the Geelong Cat's logo now,
- 1:25:28Speaker 4: you know, it's just it looks like a puma almost
- 1:25:30Speaker 4: where the half cat was fucking cool. I want, like,
- 1:25:33Speaker 4: whenever I wear my retro jumpers that they sell retro jumpers.
- 1:25:37Speaker 4: Now one of the old school logos to the half cat,
- 1:25:39Speaker 4: the Gelong mascotso On Football club mascot. Ali looks at
- 1:25:42Speaker 4: he goes, what's what's that cat? And I said, that's
- 1:25:44Speaker 4: the logos the guy that you see running around. He goes,
- 1:25:46Speaker 4: I want one of those ones. I'm like, yes, kids
- 1:25:48Speaker 4: want this ship people it's fun. Bring fun back to
- 1:25:50Speaker 4: sports and get it to the gambling. Bring back the fun.
- 1:25:54Speaker 4: But we're now in the courtroom because they're in trouble
- 1:25:56Speaker 4: for what they were doing. We're having the smoking in
- 1:25:57Speaker 4: the bar and he says, you know what, Island you
- 1:26:00Speaker 4: bought me some of my favorite things. Larry Byrd because
- 1:26:02Speaker 4: he played for the Boston Selthtic or mister potato Head.
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: Now where did miss potato Head actually originate? I know
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: the joke being the potatoes. But but was mister potatoes
- 1:26:10Speaker 4: and an American? H?
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: No, I think he was.
- 1:26:13Speaker 4: He was an American creation, like a has Bro thing.
- 1:26:15Speaker 4: What was mister potato had discontinued? When was he discontinued?
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: Oh, he's not called mister Potatohead anymore. He just called
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: potato head.
- 1:26:21Speaker 4: He's just yeah, he's gender neutral. Produced by Hasbro since
- 1:26:25Speaker 4: nineteen fifty two.
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: Oh was it Hasbro okay? Then? Yeah?
- 1:26:27Speaker 4: I thought it was Hasbro okay. Yeah, obviously the joke
- 1:26:30Speaker 4: being potatoes Island And it was a funny reveal though
- 1:26:33Speaker 4: of the judge looking not mister Potatohead. Of course, I
- 1:26:35Speaker 4: mean it's wacky, but it's fine. I'm willing to go
- 1:26:37Speaker 4: with it. And he questions, what who does smoke actually hurt?
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: You know?
- 1:26:41Speaker 4: Besides the people are smoking people near them, and the
- 1:26:44Speaker 4: young born children of the mother's for free on expected
- 1:26:46Speaker 4: mother's knights, and much like oh Jesus Christ. But their
- 1:26:49Speaker 4: punishment is deportation and a small fine. Still be fine.
- 1:26:52Speaker 4: And the judge says that Ireland got a lot nicer
- 1:26:54Speaker 4: once we sent all the niitmts to America. For some reason,
- 1:26:57Speaker 4: you guys made the more cops then Wigan walks in
- 1:26:59Speaker 4: the end, he was kind of Yeah.
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: It felt dragged out. Yeah, the whole well, the first
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: gag with him what he met, he messed up with
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: his gun or something. Yeah, then he got talks into
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: the phone, but it's actually his taser or something, and
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: the taser bit just goes on, like but what seems
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: like infinity?
- 1:27:16Speaker 4: Yeah, shot is the clothes of the with an Irish
- 1:27:20Speaker 4: lat tune underneath it.
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right. Overall, though, this was a really nice
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: tribute to Ireland. I think so I liked it. Yeah,
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: absolutely no, I like I said, I had a lot
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: of fun with this episode. I had a few good laughs,
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: like it was helping me to sort of pull out
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: bits and pieces that I really enjoyed. Although I think
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: we came up with a few talking about it, but
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: generally just a good feel of quality all the way through.
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: It wasn't like, oh my god, that moment was great.
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: It was just this is just nice. It was good. Yeah,
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: nothing to sort of even like the hot tub story.
- 1:27:48Speaker 4: We all love hot tubs and didn't drag out too long.
- 1:27:52Speaker 4: I going into this much like the gentleman. I have
- 1:27:55Speaker 4: memories of my memories of not liking this episode, right,
- 1:27:58Speaker 4: memories going on when I was watching something before I
- 1:28:00Speaker 4: was going to review it, when and going, oh, there's
- 1:28:02Speaker 4: gonna be a shit one. We had a good one
- 1:28:03Speaker 4: last week, it's gonna be shit.
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: And I went, you know what, I had fun, that's good.
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: That's what you need. Yeah, it's all you need. Indeed.
- 1:28:11Speaker 4: And it's funny because I read so many reviews of
- 1:28:13Speaker 4: this episode online and they all just absolutely bash it.
- 1:28:16Speaker 4: Really no story, what are they doing here? What's that
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: mister potato head joke? The writer's run out of ideas?
- 1:28:22Speaker 4: And I'm going I thought they put more efforts to
- 1:28:24Speaker 4: this one.
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: Than are we watching the same episode? Yeah, it feels
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: pretty packed with the good stuff.
- 1:28:30Speaker 4: Yeah, I really liked it. So Yeah, In the Name
- 1:28:32Speaker 4: of the Grandfather an episode that I actually would rewatch,
- 1:28:34Speaker 4: and I would recommend it if you've listened to a
- 1:28:35Speaker 4: review of obviously sported. But some people do listen to
- 1:28:37Speaker 4: this podcast and actually watch the episodes anymore, which is fine,
- 1:28:40Speaker 4: that's what you do.
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: But go and watch this one. This one's worth rewatching.

- 1:29:13Speaker 1: By the way, time for guys nerdy film related shout out.
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: Oh I like these ones? Yes, this episode is tited
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: in the Name of the Grand Flower. There was a
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: film in I believe nineteen ninety three called In the
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: Name of the Father, starting with Daniel day Lewis and
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: the late great Pete Postlethwaite. You may remember him from
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: I think it was Jurassic Packed Lost World. Who was he?
- 1:29:33Speaker 4: He was like, yes, is he the British guy. Yeah,
- 1:29:36Speaker 4: he's got the nose, got a big nose.
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, not the Bob peck Hunter from the first one.
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: Not clever good, not clever no no no, But they're
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: like the sequel version of that guy. Peter Poet, Yeah,
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: said yeah, yeah, that's the guy. Yeah, very distinctive looking snobs.
- 1:29:50Speaker 4: He is clever girl in the second movie, he's correct, Yes, yes, yes.
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: They played father and son in that movie. They were
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: accused of terrorist activities and went to job based on
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: true story. Very good movie, very very powerful, good performances
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: by both actors and Irish. So there we go. That's
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: the connection.
- 1:30:05Speaker 4: Yes, well, you wanted to have a love letter, paid
- 1:30:08Speaker 4: a love letter to Ireland, Alergeen, and I think you
- 1:30:11Speaker 4: successfully did this.
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: Indeed. Sorry. The one other thing that yeah, guys film
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: related nerdy shout out Part two sick apparently as good
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: as the first. Apparently someone they were looking at or
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: had possibly signed to the voice of Tom Flannagan was
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: Kenneth brown Yes, yeah, yeah, who just didn't do it. Yeah,
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: whether he pulled out or just was not involved in
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: the first place, who knows it? Did sound on the
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: wiki page about that, Yeah, yes, but Kenneth Browner is
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: very Irish, well not very Irish, but he's certainly Irish.
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: And anyway.
- 1:30:42Speaker 4: In a September two thousand and eight interview, aler Jeane
- 1:30:46Speaker 4: said that Kenny would guest star as the pub owner
- 1:30:48Speaker 4: and that he had come to and that he had
- 1:30:51Speaker 4: come in to record the part. However, he was replaced
- 1:30:53Speaker 4: by Menie and did not appear in the episode. So
- 1:30:55Speaker 4: did he go in and record it?
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: That's you'd be filthy, wouldn't you if you were replaced?
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: You listen to Kenneth Branner speaking, well, he does all
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: variety of accents in all manner of movie. He's in
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: all manner of things. Yeah, not necessarily the most irish
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: of accents. I mean, I think even if you hear
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: him speak sort of in every day, everyday voice, it's
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: kind of like he's got a bit of a drama
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: school trained accent. That's not even that's not even like
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: Liam Neeson es where it's kind of like I will
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: find you and you can tell that's I got irish. Yeah,
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: even when he's doing other accents, Kenneth Branner doesn't necessarily
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: sound super irish. Maybe that's the thing. Maybe, Yeah, you
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: who's going to go to? Because Kennon Branner is very
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: well regarded as yes, who's who in the Simpsons cars
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: are going to? He? Can you make it up a
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: bit for it? Can can he be irish?
- 1:31:50Speaker 3: Please?
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: Can you pour a little guinness on that? One. You're
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: from Ireland, I like to say that, you know, when
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: you're putting, can you put a little hot sauce? And
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: he could put a mustard on that one. I was like, yeah,
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: can you pour a little guinness on that one? For
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: a Kenny? They'd probably like, no, what do You're not
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: like my voice? So that's interesting. I think that's interesting
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: that especially they recorded and they didn't use it, or
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: that he went into record and it didn't happen anyway.
- 1:32:18Speaker 4: It was actually I'm reading some interesting stuff here on
- 1:32:19Speaker 4: the wiki page about the promotion for it. So, as
- 1:32:21Speaker 4: we said earlier, it was the first episode of The
- 1:32:23Speaker 4: Simpsons to premiere in Europe before airing in the on Fox.
- 1:32:26Speaker 4: In the States, Previously, new episodes of the show occasionally
- 1:32:29Speaker 4: aired on the Global Television Network in Canada a half
- 1:32:31Speaker 4: hour before they add on Fox Global. Similar cars show
- 1:32:34Speaker 4: from several American networks and Occaional Special Forces forced them
- 1:32:38Speaker 4: to be pushed to an earlier pushed The Simpsons to
- 1:32:40Speaker 4: be pushed to an earlier timeslot, but the episode added
- 1:32:42Speaker 4: seven three pm on Sky One and was paired with
- 1:32:45Speaker 4: because so when in the States and Sorry in Australia
- 1:32:47Speaker 4: and the UK, and whatnot. We would get the season's
- 1:32:49Speaker 4: episodes a lot later in this point in time as well,
- 1:32:51Speaker 4: two thousand and nine, so that would start in September.
- 1:32:54Speaker 4: We might i say, at in episodes till February or whatever,
- 1:32:56Speaker 4: right later on the track. So this one was actually
- 1:32:58Speaker 4: the season was premier yere sits into his premiering in
- 1:33:02Speaker 4: the UK when this episode was aired as well, so
- 1:33:04Speaker 4: it was paired with sex Pies and Idiot Scopes, which
- 1:33:07Speaker 4: is the first episode of the series of the season
- 1:33:10Speaker 4: which began with a visit to Saint Patrick's Day, so
- 1:33:13Speaker 4: they aired the episode first and then added this episode
- 1:33:15Speaker 4: after all. Vice versa not too short. Also, Al Jean
- 1:33:19Speaker 4: and Nancy can't right went to the UK to Ireland
- 1:33:23Speaker 4: to be part of the Saint Patrick's Day parade in
- 1:33:25Speaker 4: Dublin to promote the episode.
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: Check out the float here. Here's the photo of the float.
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: It's pretty cool, isn't it. Oh my goodness, it's the
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: Simpsons house with the couch there. I love the idea
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: of just floats, you know, parade and stuff. They don't
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: even doing enough in Australia anymore. Like extravagant parade. We
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: don't doing enough in Australia. Do we like the Macy
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: Day parade.
- 1:33:44Speaker 4: Where you got the big balloons, something fun to take
- 1:33:46Speaker 4: the kids.
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: Too, you know, it's true. Yeah, I mean well in
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: Geelong we used to have Garla Day. Yeah.
- 1:33:50Speaker 4: They fucking just got rid of it, that's true. We
- 1:33:52Speaker 4: have no explanation, just not doing it anymore. When I
- 1:33:56Speaker 4: was a kid, we had the Garla Parade Gayla Gala
- 1:34:00Speaker 4: we call it, right, and it was on a Friday.
- 1:34:02Speaker 4: It was always a Friday. It was the first Friday
- 1:34:03Speaker 4: November something on those line thing. So yeah, I think
- 1:34:06Speaker 4: it was the first Friday November. Because the way it
- 1:34:07Speaker 4: used to work was we have we call the show.
- 1:34:10Speaker 4: It's the fair right long show. Yes, And what used
- 1:34:12Speaker 4: to happen at the garb Parade. It was usually the
- 1:34:14Speaker 4: week after the show and they would have some of
- 1:34:16Speaker 4: the rise down at the beach and it was basically
- 1:34:18Speaker 4: the show, but it was free entry and it was
- 1:34:20Speaker 4: a lot cheaper, right, So it was the show for
- 1:34:22Speaker 4: families who couldn't afford to go to the actual show.
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: You're making me kind of sado. We don't do this
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: yet anymore, and.
- 1:34:28Speaker 4: Now they've just gone no, if you want to go,
- 1:34:30Speaker 4: take your kids to the show. Now you're going to
- 1:34:32Speaker 4: go to the actual show. Pay fifty dollars entry plus
- 1:34:34Speaker 4: for your family. I think it cost the seventy five
- 1:34:36Speaker 4: dollars just to get into the show.
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:34:38Speaker 4: It used to be free on the fucking beach for
- 1:34:39Speaker 4: familiesho couldn't afford it, right, We used to look out
- 1:34:41Speaker 4: for the little guys. Now they took that shit away,
- 1:34:43Speaker 4: put in fucking bike lanes. Fuck this town man, Look, wow,
- 1:34:49Speaker 4: just why can't Why are you making things not fun?
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: I know, yeah, it's looked tough times all around. Of
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: course it's all about the money.
- 1:34:58Speaker 4: But we used to have a par you'd go there,
- 1:35:00Speaker 4: you'd have the day off from school, you'd fucking get
- 1:35:02Speaker 4: there eleven o'clock. You'd be you'd be part of the parade.
- 1:35:04Speaker 4: Sometimes you'd be loving it. You'd have big people in
- 1:35:07Speaker 4: the mascot's outfits and there'd be actual floats.
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: It'd be fun. And after that you go down to
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: the show on the beach for free, and you can
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: have fun with your friends after that ship anymore. It
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: really was the best of times. It was. It was
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: a really, really good time to do a theme park
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: on the beach. Man highlight Park. That place was kind
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: of sketchy. You always feel like you're taking a life
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: in your head.
- 1:35:30Speaker 4: But still, man, this just keeps sucking the light. I mean,
- 1:35:32Speaker 4: we're getting playgrounds and stuff. That's fine, but just bring
- 1:35:35Speaker 4: back the parade and.
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: Make it fun again. We are sucking the color and
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: fun out of just about everything these days. We could,
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: we can do a whole episode and ran just about
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: how you know, life is just about optimizing and grind
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: set and all that kind of bullshit these days. But
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: let's not.
- 1:35:52Speaker 4: It wasn't just by the way, it wasn't just Algaier
- 1:35:54Speaker 4: and Nancy cart Right. James Brooks James Olbrooks also joined
- 1:35:56Speaker 4: them as part of the parade. The episode was screened
- 1:35:59Speaker 4: at the Lighthouse Cinema in Dublin on March sixteenth, to
- 1:36:02Speaker 4: day before ad on TV. In addition, Homer was announced
- 1:36:05Speaker 4: as the special guest editor of the March edition of
- 1:36:07Speaker 4: Sky Magazine. To promote the episode in the States, several
- 1:36:11Speaker 4: people dressed as Marge visited pubs in various major cities
- 1:36:14Speaker 4: on March seventeenth and gave away codes for free cell
- 1:36:17Speaker 4: phone ring tones and wallpaper Wow cell phone ring Tones.
- 1:36:22Speaker 4: A clip from the episode was played all day on
- 1:36:24Speaker 4: the JumboTron screen in Times Square, New York City. So
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: they went all out of this episode.
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: Didn't they. They really did.
- 1:36:29Speaker 4: Yeah, and at least they came through with a quality episode.
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: Yeah, they did. It'd have been a disappointing episode then, well,
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: I mean, I guess some people were disappointed by it
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: according to these inaccurate.
- 1:36:39Speaker 4: Incorrect reviews lithering idiots.
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: Yes, indeed.
- 1:36:41Speaker 4: But before in the Name of the Grandfather aired as well,
- 1:36:44Speaker 4: Irish bookmaker Patti Power.
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: What a great name, Paddy Power. That just sounds like
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: a slogan. It sounds like a porn star. Oh yeah,
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: we'll get drilled by Patti Power, the Irish cousin of
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: Max Power. He'll bring the g's.
- 1:36:58Speaker 4: So he started taking bets on what would happen in
- 1:37:00Speaker 4: the episode. It offered odds on things such as which
- 1:37:03Speaker 4: Irish phrase Homer would use, first number of viewers, and
- 1:37:06Speaker 4: which Irish star would make a cameo appearance.
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: Well done.
- 1:37:09Speaker 4: What on Patti Power? He's actually got his own wiki page?
- 1:37:12Speaker 4: Do I dare look ut Patty Power?
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: Looking?
- 1:37:13Speaker 4: I feel like I have to book maker Patty Power.
- 1:37:16Speaker 4: Patty Power is an Irish game. It's Irish gaming. Patty
- 1:37:19Speaker 4: Power's a company. Ah, it makes me sad, so.
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: I thought it was a slogan. It's true, it is
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: that there'd be a dude.
- 1:37:26Speaker 4: Named Patty Power found it in nineteen eighty eight. I
- 1:37:28Speaker 4: mean I wish I had to clicked on that now,
- 1:37:30Speaker 4: wish I had have been wrong. It's I always love that,
- 1:37:33Speaker 4: the idea of a guy out there just like I'm
- 1:37:35Speaker 4: Patty Power.
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: Murder. Comrade Dano's literally did fall a little bit. Well,
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: it was sad.
- 1:37:43Speaker 4: It was.
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: Like you open up a Christmas present in got socks.
- 1:37:47Speaker 4: Yeah, but that's now I'm happy. Oh yeah, I goalkd
- 1:37:51Speaker 4: through KM up now and I'm like, oh socks, oh yeah,
- 1:37:55Speaker 4: I have.
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: I've had to make a literal put the brakes on. Yeah.
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: I was like too many socks. Oh yeah yeah. I
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: was looking at my sock drawings like it's full. Yeah,
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: I've had to take some of the mountain. Yep. Some
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: have been thrown away, but some are like I love
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: you too much, You're just going down to the bea drawing.
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: I'm going to love you for more now. Oh yeah,
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: I need to get a new jar. I always thought
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: that was like an urban myth. I never knew anyone,
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: and I was at a boarding school who jackedon. Never
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: knew anyone who jacked into a sock. I knew one
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: kid that did it. Yeah, weird, not weird, not weird.
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: I mean whatever gets you through the night. Yeah, but yeah,
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: not nearly as common as say The American Pie and
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: its sequels would have you believe. So that is other
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: story of Paddy Power with some weird detours. What do
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: we learn? Bomb would you learn?
- 1:38:51Speaker 4: Because I learned that Patty Power is not a porn
- 1:38:53Speaker 4: star drilling people Patty company.
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: I learned that the nineteen seventy nine a Galway Hurdle
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: was just a massive disappointment on all fronts. Ross day forward,
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: your name will.
