- 0:03Speaker 1: I get everybody. I'm Dan Horde and thanks for downloading
- 0:06Speaker 1: the Bengals Booth Podcast. The We're living in the future
- 0:10Speaker 1: and none of this has happened yet. Addition, as we
- 0:15Speaker 1: not only look ahead the Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys,
- 0:18Speaker 1: but also talk to an NFL draft expert about the
- 0:22Speaker 1: class of twenty one. My one on one player interview
- 0:25Speaker 1: this week is with a guy who has a very
- 0:27Speaker 1: unusual job quarantine quarterback. And we'll wrap up this edition
- 0:32Speaker 1: of the podcast by talking to a local business owner
- 0:36Speaker 1: who has partnered with the Bengals to introduce a new
- 0:39Speaker 1: fashion brand with a positive message. The Bengals Booth Podcast
- 0:43Speaker 1: is presented by bud Light Seltzer. Refresh the game, and

- 1:04Speaker 1: The fastest a vaccine has been developed for a major
- 1:06Speaker 1: disease is four years when an inoculation against mumps became available.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Right now, the world is witnessing what will rank among
- 1:15Speaker 1: the greatest feats in medical history a vaccine for a
- 1:19Speaker 1: lethal pandemic in a fraction of that time. Multiple vaccines
- 1:24Speaker 1: for COVID nineteen are nearing approval. It will take months
- 1:27Speaker 1: to mass produce and distribute them in large enough numbers
- 1:31Speaker 1: to effectively end this pandemic, but modern science is truly remarkable.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Now let's get to football. It's been a rough year
- 1:40Speaker 1: for the Bengals and this week's opponent, the Dallas Cowboys,
- 1:44Speaker 1: both lost their starting quarterbacks to season ending injuries and
- 1:48Speaker 1: are looking at high draft picks next year. Right now,
- 1:51Speaker 1: the two, nine and one Bengals would have the third
- 1:53Speaker 1: pick and the three and nine Cowboys would have the
- 1:56Speaker 1: fourth pick. That's where we start this week's pod cast.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Dane Brugler covers the draft for The Athletic and as
- 2:04Speaker 1: a walking encyclopedia on the subject. Recently, Dane joined Dave
- 2:09Speaker 1: Lappam and me on the Bengals pep Rally Show, and
- 2:12Speaker 1: we began by discussing Oregon offensive lineman Piney Sewell, who
- 2:17Speaker 1: is widely considered to be the top old lineman in
- 2:20Speaker 1: the twenty twenty one draft. He's a very very talented
- 2:25Speaker 1: prospect and he's a very young player. He will not
- 2:28Speaker 1: turn twenty one years old until October. So a very
- 2:33Speaker 1: young player who unfortunately opted out of the season, and
- 2:36Speaker 1: I say unfortunately just for evaluation purposes, but we saw
- 2:40Speaker 1: enough of him his first two years. He started twenty
- 2:42Speaker 1: games at left tackle for Oregon. You know, for a
- 2:46Speaker 1: player that young to play at the high level that
- 2:48Speaker 1: he did, just a really impressive player. He's a native
- 2:51Speaker 1: of American Samoa, moved to the States, moved to Utah
- 2:55Speaker 1: and she has an eleven and just really started to
- 2:58Speaker 1: grow both physic glee and then on the football field
- 3:01Speaker 1: with his understanding of the sport and the position. And
- 3:05Speaker 1: you feel like he's still far away from playing his
- 3:08Speaker 1: best football. So you know, the combination of what we
- 3:11Speaker 1: have already, and that's just a player who you know,
- 3:15Speaker 1: he had that big man balance, he's got that mobility,
- 3:18Speaker 1: the football instincts, but also what you think he's going
- 3:20Speaker 1: to be as he continues to grow and you know,
- 3:23Speaker 1: as he gets older. I mean it's hard to believe
- 3:25Speaker 1: he was actually born a few weeks before Tom Brady
- 3:28Speaker 1: through his first path. So this is a very very
- 3:30Speaker 1: young player who has a very high ceiling in the league. Well,
- 3:35Speaker 1: when you when you look at it. I was wondering
- 3:37Speaker 1: physically obviously, the dimensions and the athletic ability and all that,
- 3:41Speaker 1: but I was going to ask you about the mental
- 3:43Speaker 1: part of it. Does he the football iq, the football instincts,
- 3:48Speaker 1: Does he have football awareness? Does he see the is
- 3:51Speaker 1: he tunnel visioned on just his assignments? Does he understand
- 3:54Speaker 1: the total uh, you know, football philosophy and structure of
- 3:58Speaker 1: his offense, what defense is are trying to do to
- 4:00Speaker 1: his his position offensive ammuse into all that stuff. Are
- 4:04Speaker 1: you're aware is or is he still growing in those departments? Well,
- 4:08Speaker 1: he's still growing. You know. There are times where you
- 4:11Speaker 1: know he can be out angled in the run game,
- 4:14Speaker 1: and you know, and just in terms of understanding where
- 4:16Speaker 1: his landmarks are improving his body position, you know, the
- 4:21Speaker 1: timing midset. You know, these are areas where he can
- 4:24Speaker 1: get better. But I don't think there are areas where
- 4:27Speaker 1: they're a problem or you think it's going to be
- 4:29Speaker 1: an issue for him long term. But I mean there's
- 4:33Speaker 1: a lot to be encouraged with his instincts. He's a
- 4:35Speaker 1: player who he understands timing with his punch, his hands
- 4:39Speaker 1: stay up ready, explosive six inches, so he can attack
- 4:44Speaker 1: rushers before they get into his body. He keeps his
- 4:47Speaker 1: feet moving at contacts so he can create movement in
- 4:49Speaker 1: the run game. And then I think there's something to
- 4:52Speaker 1: be said about his toughness and he will play through injury.
- 4:54Speaker 1: He played his entire senior year of high school with
- 4:57Speaker 1: a torn labor. This is a tough, tough dude who
- 5:01Speaker 1: you know. There's a lot of things you point to
- 5:03Speaker 1: that say, Okay, he's going to be a pro not
- 5:06Speaker 1: only just a starter, but a Pro Bowl level player
- 5:09Speaker 1: for a long time. We're talking to Dane Brogler, who
- 5:12Speaker 1: does a great job of covering the draft for the Athletic.
- 5:16Speaker 1: If Sewell is taken before the Bengals pick, how is
- 5:19Speaker 1: this class of offensive lineman after him? At think off
- 5:23Speaker 1: of the tackle position. I think there's a clear one
- 5:25Speaker 1: with Sewell. But I also think there's a clear two,
- 5:28Speaker 1: and that's where Shaun Slater at Northwestern. And I tell
- 5:31Speaker 1: you what, he's going to get dinged throughout the process
- 5:33Speaker 1: when he comes. I can see it now. He's going
- 5:35Speaker 1: to step up with the stage at the Senior Bowl.
- 5:37Speaker 1: He's going to extend his arms and they're gonna be
- 5:39Speaker 1: thirty two and a half thirty two and three quarters
- 5:42Speaker 1: and he's gonna get dinged because he doesn't reach that
- 5:44Speaker 1: thirty three inch threshold that a lot of teams, a
- 5:47Speaker 1: lot of evaluators have. But this guy's a tackle. You
- 5:51Speaker 1: watch him on film and you see a guy that's coordinated.
- 5:54Speaker 1: He understands leverage, you understand how to attack the opponent,
- 5:58Speaker 1: and so go on the tape of him again. Chase
- 6:00Speaker 1: Young last year. He was the only tackle on last
- 6:04Speaker 1: year's college film that was able to slow down. Chase
- 6:07Speaker 1: Young at Ohio State a really, really impressive player, another
- 6:11Speaker 1: opt out. No tape from this season, but he started
- 6:14Speaker 1: thirty seven games both at right tackle on left tackle
- 6:17Speaker 1: for Northwestern. So he is experienced player who is worthy
- 6:22Speaker 1: of a pick somewhere in the top twenty if in fact,
- 6:25Speaker 1: the Bengals don't pick at number three. When you get
- 6:29Speaker 1: to number five or whatever the case may be, or
- 6:31Speaker 1: even at number three, is there an edge rush guy
- 6:35Speaker 1: that's close to school value on the board. It's like, Okay,
- 6:38Speaker 1: I want to take the best available player on the board,
- 6:41Speaker 1: and position and need obviously is a factor, but they
- 6:44Speaker 1: need pass rushers as well as tackles. Is there a
- 6:47Speaker 1: pass rusher that may cloud the issue at all. You know,
- 6:50Speaker 1: we've been really spoiled the last few years with Miles
- 6:54Speaker 1: Garrett and then you know the boasts of brothers Chase
- 6:57Speaker 1: Young last year. This year, we don't have that guy.
- 7:00Speaker 1: We don't have that clear cut top five overall pass
- 7:04Speaker 1: rusher who's just different. You know, he's got special to him. Now,
- 7:09Speaker 1: We've got some quality pass rushers in this class, but
- 7:12Speaker 1: none that I would say are top ten locks. Gregory
- 7:15Speaker 1: Rousseau from Miami. He's the most interesting of the group.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Another opt out red shirt sophomore who as in high
- 7:23Speaker 1: school he was a wide receiver, he played defensive back
- 7:26Speaker 1: and then he kind of outgrew those positions, moved the
- 7:28Speaker 1: defensive line as a senior, and then at the red
- 7:31Speaker 1: shirt freshman last year at Miami he led the acc
- 7:34Speaker 1: and tackles for a lock in sacks. A really young player,
- 7:37Speaker 1: but you see the potential really long. He's a good athlete,
- 7:41Speaker 1: but still piecing together how to be a pass rusher
- 7:44Speaker 1: in terms of the sequence, in terms of his pass
- 7:46Speaker 1: rush moves, he could maybe getting at the top ten,
- 7:50Speaker 1: but he's not a top ten lock. He's not on
- 7:51Speaker 1: that same level and really that's the conundrum with this draft.
- 7:54Speaker 1: I think looking at the non quarterbacks, there's only a
- 7:58Speaker 1: few of these guys that you point to in say
- 8:00Speaker 1: oh yeah, he's definitely going to the top ten, and
- 8:02Speaker 1: I think that's the Penna stool, and then I think
- 8:04Speaker 1: Jamar Chase, the wide receiver from LSU. After that, I'm
- 8:08Speaker 1: not sure any of these guys are absolute walks to
- 8:11Speaker 1: go in those top ten picks. No corners either. I
- 8:15Speaker 1: think this class has a few really talented corners. Caleb
- 8:18Speaker 1: Farley from Virginia Tech, Patrick Curtan from Alabama. Would I
- 8:23Speaker 1: had named two guys on defense, those two would be
- 8:26Speaker 1: the guy to be the guys. Caleb Farley with a
- 8:29Speaker 1: quarterback in high school, moved to wide receiver, then moved
- 8:32Speaker 1: to corner at Virginia Tech, and he's got a sky
- 8:35Speaker 1: high ceiling as a player. He's a good sized athlete,
- 8:38Speaker 1: six two. He's gonna run really well, he's got ball instincts,
- 8:42Speaker 1: still new to the position, so he's still learning. And
- 8:44Speaker 1: so it's just a matter of how early do you
- 8:46Speaker 1: feel comfortable taking a guy like that. Patrick Curtan, obviously
- 8:49Speaker 1: the son of an NFL pro bowler, not gonna run
- 8:52Speaker 1: exceptionally well, probably somewhere in the four fives. But he's long,
- 8:57Speaker 1: he can press, he can pattern match, and he doesn't
- 9:00Speaker 1: nice job finding the football downfield. So I think both
- 9:03Speaker 1: those guys will definitely be in consideration, but I don't
- 9:05Speaker 1: know that I would call them absolute blocks. A couple
- 9:08Speaker 1: more questions for the Athletics draft expert Dane Brugler, How
- 9:12Speaker 1: did the quarterbacks line up in your mind at this point?
- 9:16Speaker 1: And have you heard anything yet about Desmond Ritter, who's
- 9:19Speaker 1: a junior at the University of Cincinnati, and I think
- 9:22Speaker 1: everybody expects him to come back for his senior year.
- 9:25Speaker 1: But is he on the radar at this point? Well,
- 9:28Speaker 1: the Ritter's definitely on the radar, no question. You know,
- 9:32Speaker 1: after you get past these top four quarterbacks, that's Trevor Lawrence,
- 9:37Speaker 1: justin Field, Zack Wilson, and Trey Land, and you've got
- 9:40Speaker 1: a couple of seniors. You know, Kyle Trask is in there.
- 9:43Speaker 1: But Desmond Ritters one of the few, you know, upside
- 9:47Speaker 1: quarterbacks where you feel like he's maybe a developmental option.
- 9:51Speaker 1: He has the size, he's got easy arm strength, you know,
- 9:54Speaker 1: still has room to fill out that frame of his
- 9:57Speaker 1: He's a good athlete. The accurs see you wish is
- 10:00Speaker 1: a little bit better. It seems like for every five
- 10:02Speaker 1: yards that he's throwing, it seems like his accuracy drops
- 10:06Speaker 1: just a little bit. So, you know, he's a guy
- 10:08Speaker 1: that's easy to love. The competitive nature. You know. Talking
- 10:11Speaker 1: to my people in Cincinnati, they say he's just off
- 10:13Speaker 1: the chart. He's a true competitor. Obviously he's well coached there.
- 10:17Speaker 1: So personally, selfishly, I'd love to see Ridder go back
- 10:20Speaker 1: for another year because I think he could be continue
- 10:22Speaker 1: to get better and better and we'll be talking about
- 10:24Speaker 1: him as a possible first rounder in the twenty twenty
- 10:27Speaker 1: two class. But this year's class, it's going to dominate
- 10:30Speaker 1: the conversation. These quarterbacks. Trevor Lawrence the clear favorite to
- 10:33Speaker 1: go number one, and then two, three and four, those
- 10:37Speaker 1: those next three quarterbacks. That's where there's a lot of
- 10:40Speaker 1: intrigue and split opinions throughout the league. There's no consensus
- 10:44Speaker 1: on these guys. Ohio states justin fields, just a really
- 10:48Speaker 1: good mobile athlete, very accurate with his passing vision, with
- 10:53Speaker 1: a little bit better in terms of going through his progressions,
- 10:55Speaker 1: eliminating things a little bit quicker with Zack Wilson has
- 11:00Speaker 1: this year for Byu just just really phenomenal. Byu hasn't
- 11:04Speaker 1: had the best schedule necessarily in terms of the opponents,
- 11:07Speaker 1: but watching him execute these throws off platform, instructure, out
- 11:12Speaker 1: of structure, changing his arm angles and just had a
- 11:15Speaker 1: natural accuracy to him. To Zach Wilson, he's in play
- 11:19Speaker 1: to be one of the first quarterbacks off the board.
- 11:21Speaker 1: And then Trey Lance, who's really an unprecedented evaluation. Seventeen
- 11:25Speaker 1: career starts in college all against FCS opponents, forty six
- 11:29Speaker 1: total touchdowns, only three turnovers, a lot of traits that
- 11:33Speaker 1: you bank on for the next level. So I think
- 11:36Speaker 1: you can be drafted high. But with his resume, his
- 11:39Speaker 1: meager experience, he really is an unprecedented evaluation. When you
- 11:43Speaker 1: mentioned seul and balance, I can testify to the fact
- 11:49Speaker 1: that when I played against defensive lineman that or of
- 11:52Speaker 1: Siman heritage, these guys were immovable objects. I mean they
- 11:57Speaker 1: all the weight that they cared was all on the
- 11:59Speaker 1: right places. Their knees were over their ankles, their hips
- 12:03Speaker 1: were over their knees. I mean they were just like
- 12:05Speaker 1: they'd hunker down, balance up, and you couldn't move these dudes,
- 12:09Speaker 1: and is he Is he that kind of guy? Is
- 12:12Speaker 1: his weight distributed that way? Is he that type of
- 12:14Speaker 1: an athlete? And what are his actual dimensions? I've heard
- 12:17Speaker 1: anywhere from three twenty to like three forty and above.
- 12:20Speaker 1: How big and strong is this guy? Yeah, it'll be interesting,
- 12:24Speaker 1: interesting to see what he weighs in at because obviously
- 12:26Speaker 1: we haven't seen him this year, so you know he's
- 12:28Speaker 1: obviously working out and you know, trying to hone his craft.
- 12:31Speaker 1: But what will he tip the scales at. I would
- 12:34Speaker 1: guess somewhere between three twenty and three thirty. He's just
- 12:38Speaker 1: a hair under six six, good length. But I agree
- 12:41Speaker 1: with me. I think he does have that flexibility, just
- 12:44Speaker 1: that natural, natural body type where the footwork, the flexibility,
- 12:49Speaker 1: it looks natural for him. The physical traits, you know,
- 12:53Speaker 1: no worries there, that big man balance, the mobility. That's
- 12:56Speaker 1: part of the reason why Tristan works is having so
- 12:58Speaker 1: much success as a for the team of Bay Books
- 13:01Speaker 1: this year. He has that big man balance. And I
- 13:03Speaker 1: think you're absolutely right. You know, he's another one of
- 13:06Speaker 1: these just big samoans who it just looks natural for
- 13:09Speaker 1: him out there. It's really excited to see sewell this
- 13:13Speaker 1: pre draft process just to see what improvements he's made.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Is he moving the same? What's his weight at? So yeah,
- 13:19Speaker 1: it's plenty we have to learn about school, but he's
- 13:21Speaker 1: in that driver's seat to be the first non quarterback drafted.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Dane Brogler does an exceptional job of covering the draft
- 13:28Speaker 1: and you can follow him on Twitter at d P Brugler.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Now time for this week's one on one player interview.
- 13:36Speaker 1: My guest is a player who joined the Bengals last
- 13:38Speaker 1: week and has a job that didn't exist in the
- 13:42Speaker 1: NFL until this season. One of the most unusual jobs
- 13:46Speaker 1: in the NFL this year is emergency quarterback. Brandon Allen
- 13:50Speaker 1: had that job with the Bengals. Now he is the
- 13:52Speaker 1: Bengal starting quarterback, and the new person in that role
- 13:55Speaker 1: is Kevin Hogan, who joined the team last week. Kevin,
- 13:58Speaker 1: we're calling an emergency quarterback because you have to be
- 14:00Speaker 1: kept somewhat separated from the other two just in case
- 14:04Speaker 1: they catch COVID nineteen. How difficult does that make it
- 14:08Speaker 1: for you to learn the offense and be ready to
- 14:10Speaker 1: play just in case. It's definitely a little different than
- 14:13Speaker 1: I've been used to in the past. And you know,
- 14:18Speaker 1: as a quarterback, you want to interact with the other
- 14:20Speaker 1: guys and be in the same room with them and
- 14:23Speaker 1: socialize with them. But that's just the way it is
- 14:26Speaker 1: this year that I have to kind of be separate.
- 14:29Speaker 1: So I'm doing my meetings by a zoom and then
- 14:34Speaker 1: a separate room, and when we're out on the field,
- 14:37Speaker 1: I'm just being conscious of staying, you know, a good
- 14:41Speaker 1: distance away, just to be safe. But yeah, and then
- 14:46Speaker 1: outside the facility, I'm you know, making sure that I'm
- 14:48Speaker 1: staying out of not good situations, I guess, and being smart.
- 14:55Speaker 1: So it's definitely different, but it's it's easy with Zoom,
- 15:00Speaker 1: easier than I guess it would have been without. So
- 15:02Speaker 1: I still feel like I'm kind of in there and
- 15:04Speaker 1: able to get a lot out of the meetings. For
- 15:07Speaker 1: chatting with quarterback Kevin Hogan. In a normal year, you
- 15:10Speaker 1: could try out with a team on a Tuesday, sign
- 15:13Speaker 1: a contract, and be at practice on Wednesday. Not this year.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Describe the process you went through before signing. So I
- 15:21Speaker 1: was called on Monday morning, and I was on a
- 15:25Speaker 1: flight about a couple hours later, and as soon as
- 15:29Speaker 1: I got to Cincinnati, I began my quarantine process, which
- 15:34Speaker 1: was five days, and the only thing I had to
- 15:37Speaker 1: do was come to the facility each morning and get
- 15:41Speaker 1: tested and then just make sure that I didn't catch
- 15:45Speaker 1: COVID nineteen. So it was a lot of a loane
- 15:50Speaker 1: time and trying to make the most out of your
- 15:53Speaker 1: day while staying in shape and getting ready for a workout.
- 15:58Speaker 1: I'm picturing lots of take out and lots of Netflix.
- 16:03Speaker 1: That's exactly what it was. Did you watch Queen's Gambit?
- 16:08Speaker 1: What did you Knock Off? On Netflix? So? I was
- 16:11Speaker 1: coming from San Diego, where I was doing quite a
- 16:14Speaker 1: bit of surfing out there. So I was catching up
- 16:17Speaker 1: on some of my surf documentaries last week, just kind
- 16:23Speaker 1: of keeping me in that low key, good vibe, just
- 16:28Speaker 1: so that I was able to, you know, not overthink
- 16:31Speaker 1: anything or just wanted to stay low key. You're talking
- 16:36Speaker 1: to Kevin Hogan. It's been reported that former Seattle draft
- 16:39Speaker 1: pick Alex Magoo also got to work out. Did you
- 16:42Speaker 1: two run into each other at all during that five
- 16:44Speaker 1: day period? Oh? Yeah, absolutely, Um yeah, I saw him
- 16:47Speaker 1: every day. Alex was a really good guy. We were
- 16:52Speaker 1: able to catch up a lot. He'd been down in Florida.
- 16:55Speaker 1: But uh yeah, and he spent some time around the league,
- 16:57Speaker 1: so we're kind of just chatting and catching up about
- 17:02Speaker 1: his experiences, and you know, I wish him the best
- 17:05Speaker 1: wherever he ends up. So your name undoubtedly sounds familiar
- 17:09Speaker 1: to some Bengals fans because there are four quarterbacks in
- 17:13Speaker 1: history to rush for one hundred or more yards in
- 17:16Speaker 1: a game against the Bengals, Cordell Slash, Stewart, Cam Newton,
- 17:20Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson, and you. You did it in your NFL
- 17:25Speaker 1: debut with the Cleveland Brown. Seven carries one hundred and
- 17:27Speaker 1: four yards, including a spectacular twenty eight yard zigzag touchdown run.
- 17:32Speaker 1: What are your most vivid memories of that day? There's
- 17:36Speaker 1: a lot. I have a lot of fond memories of
- 17:39Speaker 1: being in Paul Brown Stadium because of that debut. We
- 17:44Speaker 1: lost that day, but it was a lot of fun
- 17:48Speaker 1: making a debut in the NFL. And still have that
- 17:52Speaker 1: touchdown ball on my shelf. But I'm trying to do
- 17:56Speaker 1: it again. I would love to be able to do
- 17:58Speaker 1: that again a few more times. We're chatting with Kevin Hogan.
- 18:02Speaker 1: You're a Stanford grad. You had an incredible career for
- 18:05Speaker 1: the Cardinal, including three Rose Bowl victories. It's also a
- 18:09Speaker 1: great academic school. Obviously, how did you juggle football and school?
- 18:14Speaker 1: They did a really good job of providing resources and
- 18:18Speaker 1: any help you might need to whether it was balance
- 18:22Speaker 1: your time or your schedule, and with classes or practice.
- 18:27Speaker 1: They're very flexible, so I admit it easy on us.
- 18:32Speaker 1: I know that the academics is tough there, so it
- 18:37Speaker 1: was really helpful to have those resources and the ability
- 18:39Speaker 1: for athletes to reach out if they need to help
- 18:42Speaker 1: or tutors. And then the coaches were flexible with practice
- 18:47Speaker 1: schedules if you had a class. So that's something that
- 18:51Speaker 1: I really respected from Stanford that they were really willing
- 18:54Speaker 1: to help the student outlete. You were on NFL rosters
- 18:57Speaker 1: for three years before being out of the league last year,
- 19:00Speaker 1: or what could you do last fall? So I got
- 19:03Speaker 1: injured in the last preseason game of twenty nineteen and
- 19:09Speaker 1: had to undergo surgery, and so I was spending a
- 19:14Speaker 1: majority of last season rehabbing, so that that took up
- 19:18Speaker 1: most of my time, and then just really tried to
- 19:22Speaker 1: stay busy mentally. I didn't want to kind of fall
- 19:25Speaker 1: into a funk. Anytime someone goes through some sort of
- 19:29Speaker 1: adversity that can be tough, so I was trying to
- 19:33Speaker 1: stay busy. I did a few week long internships with
- 19:36Speaker 1: my financial advisor, or actually interned on Capitol Hill for
- 19:40Speaker 1: a week, and really just taking lots of meetings outside
- 19:44Speaker 1: the football world just to kind of pick people's brains
- 19:47Speaker 1: and learn as much as I could while I had
- 19:49Speaker 1: all this time. You interned on Capitol Hill for a week?
- 19:53Speaker 1: I did with what representative? So I interned for Congressman
- 19:57Speaker 1: Steve Scalise, who's the publican whip, And it was a
- 20:02Speaker 1: very eventful week because it was impeachment week. Wow. Do
- 20:08Speaker 1: you envision a career in politics someday? Is that something
- 20:11Speaker 1: that interests you? No time soon. It was just something
- 20:15Speaker 1: that being from DC and knowing people who've been on
- 20:21Speaker 1: the Hill that it was something that I wanted to
- 20:26Speaker 1: kind of peek my head into. But I would love
- 20:29Speaker 1: to play football as long as I can, and then
- 20:32Speaker 1: whenever my football poker has done, try my hand in business.
- 20:37Speaker 1: All right, final question for Kevin Hogan. Obviously, you could
- 20:41Speaker 1: get into a game if there are injuries or depending
- 20:45Speaker 1: on the play of the other two quarterbacks, so you've
- 20:47Speaker 1: got to be ready to go. But beyond that, what's
- 20:49Speaker 1: your goal in this final month, Are you trying to
- 20:52Speaker 1: make a good impression so that you'll be back with
- 20:54Speaker 1: the Bengals at the beginning of next year. Oh, I
- 20:57Speaker 1: would love to. I'm really enjoying my time here, really
- 21:00Speaker 1: like the coaching staff, really appreciate the opportunity that they've
- 21:05Speaker 1: given me to come in. And my goal is to
- 21:09Speaker 1: just be the best teammate, to help Brandon and Ryan
- 21:13Speaker 1: and the other guys as much as I can, and
- 21:16Speaker 1: then just show that I can contribute to this team
- 21:21Speaker 1: and really just be a guy that the organization would
- 21:26Speaker 1: want to keep around and show that I've made I've
- 21:30Speaker 1: worked on a lot of stuff over the last year,
- 21:33Speaker 1: year and a half and I want to show those improvements. Yeah,
- 21:37Speaker 1: I would love nothing more than to be back in Cincinnati. Kevin,
- 21:40Speaker 1: appreciate the time very much. Best of Luft the rest
- 21:43Speaker 1: of the year. Thank you appreciate it. The Bengals Booth
- 21:47Speaker 1: podcast is presented by Bud Light Seltzer. It's light and
- 21:51Speaker 1: refreshing with a hint of fruit flavor. The Dallas Cowboys
- 21:55Speaker 1: come to town on Sunday with Andy Dalton at quarterback.
- 21:58Speaker 1: The Red Rifles ten benefit season and first on a
- 22:01Speaker 1: team other than the Bengals, has been eventful, to say
- 22:04Speaker 1: the least. He replaced an injured Dak Prescott in Week
- 22:08Speaker 1: five and led the Cowboys to a dramatic last second
- 22:11Speaker 1: victory in his first start. The following week, Dallas got
- 22:16Speaker 1: blown out by Arizona on Monday Night Football thirty eight
- 22:19Speaker 1: to ten, and one week later, Andy suffered a concussion
- 22:23Speaker 1: after a brutal hit by Washington linebacker John Bostick. While
- 22:28Speaker 1: he was out with a concussion, Dalton got COVID nineteen,
- 22:32Speaker 1: extending his time on the sidelines. He returned to action
- 22:36Speaker 1: three games ago, and the Cowboys have gone one and
- 22:39Speaker 1: two since, including a thirty four to seventeen loss in
- 22:43Speaker 1: Baltimore on Tuesday Night. For the season, and he has
- 22:47Speaker 1: seven touchdown passes, six interceptions, and a passer rating of
- 22:51Speaker 1: seventy nine point five that would be the second lowest
- 22:55Speaker 1: of his career, only topping last year's number of seventy
- 22:59Speaker 1: eight point three. The Cowboys are in last place in
- 23:03Speaker 1: the NFL's weakest division, the NFC East, where the Giants
- 23:07Speaker 1: and Washington share first place at five and seven. Clarence
- 23:12Speaker 1: Hill Junior covers the Cowboys for the Fort Worth Star
- 23:15Speaker 1: telegram and joined Lap and Wayne box Miller in or
- 23:20Speaker 1: no the faux segment. You know clans. When you take
- 23:23Speaker 1: a look at the game last night, obviously not a
- 23:25Speaker 1: good showing for Dallas, especially giving up almost three hundred
- 23:28Speaker 1: yards on the ground, But what was your assessment of
- 23:31Speaker 1: the game in total? Cowboy camp stop the run, Cowboys camp,
- 23:36Speaker 1: stop the run run. I mean it's been a you know,
- 23:40Speaker 1: a theme. You know, your arrival Cleveland Browns rushed for
- 23:44Speaker 1: three hundred in the seven yards because the Cowboys are
- 23:46Speaker 1: earlier their season. You know, the Ravens Damn Dear got
- 23:49Speaker 1: three hundred yards. They got two ninety four against the
- 23:52Speaker 1: Cowboys and when when when when Cleveland did it was
- 23:55Speaker 1: about the two hited running back. You know, this time
- 23:58Speaker 1: was about not being able to contain Lamar Jackson and
- 24:02Speaker 1: then the things they do off for Lamar Jackson. So
- 24:05Speaker 1: it's been a season long problem and it's been a
- 24:07Speaker 1: different you know, the Cowboys could have done the things
- 24:11Speaker 1: in that game. They know their kicker Rigs are allowing
- 24:13Speaker 1: missed three kicks. They make those three kicks. You know,
- 24:15Speaker 1: it's a different game, you know, but the team was
- 24:20Speaker 1: not being able to stop Lamar in the run again
- 24:22Speaker 1: and giving up too many big chumps. You know, you
- 24:25Speaker 1: look at Dallas Cowboys schedule now their body clock as such,
- 24:29Speaker 1: they play on Thanksgiving, they have twelve days between games
- 24:33Speaker 1: to last night's game, and then they have basically four
- 24:35Speaker 1: and a half days before they have to play the
- 24:37Speaker 1: Bengals on Sundays. So you're going like extra long and
- 24:41Speaker 1: then real, real short and tight. What's been the sentiment
- 24:44Speaker 1: down there in terms of that scheduling quirk because of
- 24:46Speaker 1: the coronavirus. Well, you know it's too school. The thought
- 24:49Speaker 1: that means that they had extra time and study for
- 24:51Speaker 1: the Ravens and it didn't make a difference. They prepared
- 24:57Speaker 1: for the Ravens and it didn't make a difference right
- 24:59Speaker 1: right out the short cloud that and now's you know,
- 25:01Speaker 1: just talking to the player after the game last night,
- 25:04Speaker 1: you know they're happy to put that behind him, to
- 25:06Speaker 1: get back to playing again, to put that game behind them.
- 25:09Speaker 1: But this is twenty twenty, you know, with COVID nineteen,
- 25:12Speaker 1: and you know, no one's life is as it should
- 25:15Speaker 1: be as one to be everybody's true true, It's changed,
- 25:18Speaker 1: and so you know it's part of the territory the
- 25:21Speaker 1: scheduled to schedule. The Cowboys has to be prepared to play,
- 25:23Speaker 1: and like everybody else has to be prepared to play
- 25:25Speaker 1: because you know, they're not in control of COVID as
- 25:27Speaker 1: a control and and and these teams in the league
- 25:30Speaker 1: are trying to make the best of this situation one
- 25:32Speaker 1: of twenty twenty. So, yeah, the Cowboys have a short week. Uh,
- 25:37Speaker 1: they're three and nine. You know, they got a lot
- 25:39Speaker 1: of issues seeking of issues when you think about this
- 25:42Speaker 1: team and the running game, and we were talking about
- 25:45Speaker 1: it a little earlier. You know, Zeke uncharacteristically fumbling the
- 25:48Speaker 1: ball a lot this year, But is there anything else
- 25:52Speaker 1: that you can point to as to why he may
- 25:54Speaker 1: be having a few challenges with respect to keeping the ball?
- 25:59Speaker 1: So the offen the line is awful. You know, they're
- 26:01Speaker 1: they're they're without you know, there was a time when
- 26:04Speaker 1: the Cowboys at the best officers line in the league.
- 26:07Speaker 1: You look at last year, you know they you know,
- 26:10Speaker 1: if the offensive line they had with with Jervis Frederick
- 26:13Speaker 1: the first round pick and Tyren Smith a first round
- 26:16Speaker 1: pick and Zack Martin a first round pick and Leo
- 26:20Speaker 1: Collins that first round Thomas at right tackle and none
- 26:23Speaker 1: of those guys are here at trafor Swift are retired.
- 26:26Speaker 1: Uh Martin, I mean, I'm sorry. Martin's on injury reserve,
- 26:31Speaker 1: like Collins on injury reserve, Swifts on injured reserve. And
- 26:34Speaker 1: they're planning with a lot of you know, undractive agents
- 26:38Speaker 1: and guys on the line. So if that's to play
- 26:40Speaker 1: a huge role in Zeke's success on the running game,
- 26:43Speaker 1: you know that this line is not you know, road
- 26:45Speaker 1: grading people for elected to run through gigantic hole to
- 26:49Speaker 1: take advantage of people in the secondary. So that's a
- 26:52Speaker 1: big difference in why the running game is not what
- 26:54Speaker 1: it was. And then Elliott has to take her the football.
- 26:56Speaker 1: He's never had five fumbles in the season. Yeah, He's
- 27:00Speaker 1: had six fumbles and lost five of them. He's put
- 27:02Speaker 1: on the ground six times, and he's never He's never
- 27:04Speaker 1: been known as a fumbler, that's for sure. No, he
- 27:06Speaker 1: carried them a lot, yeah, yeah, and he's high and
- 27:09Speaker 1: tight with it usually defensively, Mike Nolan, is he in trouble?
- 27:14Speaker 1: I mean first quarter points, they've given up ninety four,
- 27:16Speaker 1: one hundred and twenty two points in the second quarter,
- 27:19Speaker 1: one hundred and eighteen points in the fourth quarter, second
- 27:22Speaker 1: and fourth quarter, they've given a two hundred and forty
- 27:24Speaker 1: points of their three hundred and ninety three, which is
- 27:26Speaker 1: dead last in the league, thirty thirty second in the league.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Is Mike Nolan in trouble or because it doesn't sound
- 27:32Speaker 1: like McCarthy's in trouble, but they're going to break up
- 27:35Speaker 1: that uh you know that BFF deal between those two guys.
- 27:38Speaker 1: That's just it. I mean, this is Mike McCarthy's boy.
- 27:41Speaker 1: Yeah no, and Mike McCarthy doesn't want to get whatever
- 27:43Speaker 1: his boy, but or the Cowboys Jerry Jonald Stephen Jond's
- 27:46Speaker 1: gonna make him get rid of them. Mike Nolan, that's
- 27:49Speaker 1: the course. And because you know the Cowboys have not
- 27:53Speaker 1: been great on defense in the past few years, but
- 27:57Speaker 1: at least I wouldn't you know on the Marinelli last
- 28:02Speaker 1: who was according the last six years before Michael McCarthy
- 28:05Speaker 1: five times that are defense therect in the top of
- 28:08Speaker 1: level against the run, right, you know, they were never
- 28:11Speaker 1: this bad and so you change the coach of the
- 28:14Speaker 1: changing schemes. You got the same players they want this
- 28:17Speaker 1: bad against the run last year, you know, and knowledge
- 28:19Speaker 1: sudden you change the coaching, the scheme and the scheme
- 28:22Speaker 1: and they can't stop anybody. And by McCarthy said last night,
- 28:25Speaker 1: it wasn't the scheme. You know, we're not talking about
- 28:28Speaker 1: the scheme. It's some by executing Steve when Jones says
- 28:30Speaker 1: today on the radio that it's not the players. You know.
- 28:33Speaker 1: So if it's not the skam and not the players
- 28:36Speaker 1: that both executions, they're the disconnect there. I know one thing.
- 28:39Speaker 1: They're they're paying those a lot of those players, they're
- 28:42Speaker 1: paying all those linebackers, they're paying some of those defense
- 28:44Speaker 1: They're paying those guys a hell of a lot of money.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Not getting much return on that investment. I can tell
- 28:48Speaker 1: you that. No, And I always say that. You know,
- 28:52Speaker 1: to me, the great run defenses are stout on the
- 28:56Speaker 1: defensive line, that spread up the middle. Ye okay, the
- 28:59Speaker 1: Cowboys had average to blow average defensive tackles on this team.
- 29:04Speaker 1: You just look at the deeferensive tackles. So, yeah, you're
- 29:05Speaker 1: paying to Marcus Lars. But when you're a good runt defense,
- 29:09Speaker 1: stout up the middle, defensive tackle those tackle those guys
- 29:14Speaker 1: or run stuffing animals. They don't really have that. Yeah,
- 29:18Speaker 1: you know, it's funny you say that. When I was
- 29:20Speaker 1: watching the game in the second half, I came to
- 29:21Speaker 1: the realization, I'm watching as Baltimore, and they do have
- 29:24Speaker 1: a They have a different look, they have a different
- 29:27Speaker 1: the way they incorporate the quarterback running the football. It's
- 29:30Speaker 1: eleven on eleven football instead of you know, ten on
- 29:33Speaker 1: eleven and you have you can get out gapped. And
- 29:36Speaker 1: the Cowboys got out gap quite a bit, and it
- 29:38Speaker 1: is a different thing to prepare for. And Baltimore, I mean,
- 29:41Speaker 1: they beat everybody up in the in the running game.
- 29:44Speaker 1: But I was watching, I'm thinking Dallas's defensive linemen they're
- 29:47Speaker 1: catching Baltimore. They're not coming across the football and hitting them.
- 29:50Speaker 1: They're catching them. And at that point they're giving up
- 29:53Speaker 1: the line of scrimmage. I mean they're getting they're catching
- 29:55Speaker 1: and getting knocked backwards. I'm thinking, man, that that just
- 29:58Speaker 1: can't be what they want these guys to do. I mean,
- 30:00Speaker 1: I can understand two gaping rather than penetrating the gap.
- 30:03Speaker 1: When you're two gaping, you shouldn't be catching. You should
- 30:05Speaker 1: be attacking in two gap. You know, I don't know.
- 30:08Speaker 1: They looked a little soft, to say the least. I
- 30:10Speaker 1: guess they were soft. They got out of physical and
- 30:13Speaker 1: they got out of scheme. They was confused. You know,
- 30:16Speaker 1: you know when when Lamar Jaskin takes on fourth to
- 30:19Speaker 1: two and go untouched it in zone thirty seven, thirty
- 30:22Speaker 1: seven yards and seeing ghosts, I mean, you know, it's
- 30:26Speaker 1: a lot of stuff going on, but it's but again,
- 30:27Speaker 1: this has been a season long problem for the Cowboys defense. Yeah,
- 30:31Speaker 1: looking at vandersh on that play he runs, he chases
- 30:34Speaker 1: the back across the backfield that Jackson faked the ball too,
- 30:38Speaker 1: and he leaves a gap open. Jackson just goes right
- 30:40Speaker 1: earth through that gap thirty seven yards for a touchdown.
- 30:43Speaker 1: Like there you go. He said that there was a
- 30:46Speaker 1: ball of meeting. He didn't trust himself he read it,
- 30:49Speaker 1: didn't trust what we read. And again then you know
- 30:51Speaker 1: without a position, so didn't trust his eyes. Huh, didn't
- 30:54Speaker 1: trust his own eyes. So and and that's part of it.
- 30:57Speaker 1: But again the Cowboys again we talked about the show
- 30:59Speaker 1: we can read sports for the Bengal. Well, the Cowboys
- 31:01Speaker 1: at extra rest, extra time and prepare for the Ravens.
- 31:04Speaker 1: They knew what was coming, you know what raped wood.
- 31:07Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson has done a ton of film on the
- 31:10Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson and running game and it is Gilding Hill.
- 31:14Speaker 1: They'll have more on Sunday's matchup, including comments from Andy Dalton,
- 31:18Speaker 1: on the Bengals pep Rally Show Friday from three to
- 31:21Speaker 1: six on ESPN fifteen thirty. My final conversation this week
- 31:26Speaker 1: is with a local entrepreneur who has partnered with the
- 31:28Speaker 1: Bengals to introduce a new fashion brand with a positive message.
- 31:33Speaker 1: The Bengals in Cincinnati based Black Owned out Or where
- 31:36Speaker 1: I teamed up to design a limited series retail collection
- 31:39Speaker 1: called Stripes Don't Come Easy, aimed at unifying the Cincinnati community.
- 31:44Speaker 1: The six piece collection goes on sale Saturday, December twelfth
- 31:47Speaker 1: at Black Owned and the Bengals Pro Shop. You can
- 31:51Speaker 1: also find it online at Bengals dot com. And joining
- 31:54Speaker 1: me to discuss the Stripes Don't Come Easy collection is means, Cameron,
- 31:58Speaker 1: the owner of Black Owned out Aware, means, what's the
- 32:01Speaker 1: message behind Stripes Don't Come Easy? The message is that
- 32:05Speaker 1: you know, if it's worth having, it's going to take
- 32:08Speaker 1: some hard work to get there. That's where we're looking
- 32:10Speaker 1: to let the Cincinnati community know with this campaign. We
- 32:14Speaker 1: understand that things don't happen overnight, but I believe that
- 32:18Speaker 1: Cincinnati can be a model town and model city, and
- 32:21Speaker 1: there's great work to do around our communities, surrounding the
- 32:26Speaker 1: support of black and minority communities, and we got work
- 32:31Speaker 1: to do, and I'm happy that the Cincinnati Bengals have
- 32:34Speaker 1: decided to stand right next to us and put in
- 32:36Speaker 1: that work. And we understand that stripes don't come easy,
- 32:40Speaker 1: but we're geared up about it. How did this collaboration
- 32:43Speaker 1: come about. I believe a friend of mine over at
- 32:47Speaker 1: Mortar was talking to the Cincinnati Bengals and there's a
- 32:50Speaker 1: new program that the NFL launched for the teams to
- 32:55Speaker 1: partner with local brands, and our name was put in
- 32:58Speaker 1: a hat, which is which is amazing just to be
- 33:02Speaker 1: the pick of the Cincinnati Bengals, considering there's tons of
- 33:06Speaker 1: awesome brands here in Cincinnati, to be the brand that
- 33:09Speaker 1: the Cincinnati Bengals reached out to and say, hey, we
- 33:11Speaker 1: want to do something with you, and we wanted to
- 33:14Speaker 1: be meaningful, and I got excited immediately. So it's it's exciting.
- 33:19Speaker 1: We're talking to means camera and the owner of Black
- 33:22Speaker 1: Owned Outerwear tell us about the collection. What makes it
- 33:25Speaker 1: a little bit different from the other Bengals gear out there.
- 33:29Speaker 1: The first thing I would say that it's featured by
- 33:32Speaker 1: Black Owned, which is a message in itself. So that's
- 33:37Speaker 1: the first piece that is in collaboration. This Bengals collection
- 33:41Speaker 1: is in collaboration with our brand. But Dan on the
- 33:44Speaker 1: design side of things, I really wanted our capsule to
- 33:50Speaker 1: not just be, you know, another Bengals piece, and Bengals
- 33:54Speaker 1: gear is popular throughout every city because of the colors,
- 33:59Speaker 1: the history. It's just nice. But in order to help
- 34:03Speaker 1: our campaign and capsule stand out, I decided to go
- 34:06Speaker 1: with a cream campaign, which makes our pieces just a
- 34:10Speaker 1: little different from what we're used to seeing on the shelf.
- 34:13Speaker 1: That white, black and orange, or that orange and black,
- 34:16Speaker 1: black and orange. These pieces immediately grab your attention because
- 34:19Speaker 1: you're not used to seeing that orange and black parrot
- 34:22Speaker 1: with cream or Once I submitted it to the Bengals,
- 34:25Speaker 1: that was a little apprehensive and they came back and
- 34:28Speaker 1: they were like, we love it, and I was like, oh,
- 34:31Speaker 1: this is good. From that standpoint is it's gonna stand out.
- 34:34Speaker 1: It's gonna feel unique, and that's what we wanted it
- 34:37Speaker 1: to feel. We want people to be able to identify
- 34:39Speaker 1: this capsule right away. We're chatting with means Cameron, who
- 34:43Speaker 1: has teamed up with the Bengals on the Stripes Don't
- 34:46Speaker 1: come easy collection means the Bengals have a group of
- 34:50Speaker 1: players that serve on the Positive Community Impact Committee. In August,
- 34:55Speaker 1: they let them march from Paul Brown Stadium to the
- 34:58Speaker 1: Underground Railroad Freedom Center, where Hopkins and Joe Burrow spoke
- 35:01Speaker 1: about racial injustice and being catalysts for change. What impact
- 35:07Speaker 1: does it have when players get involved, It has a
- 35:10Speaker 1: huge impact. We're ten years in as a brand, or
- 35:13Speaker 1: nine years working on our tenth year, and this has
- 35:16Speaker 1: been our message for that period. But when the people
- 35:20Speaker 1: that we look up to, the people that we see
- 35:22Speaker 1: on TV each Sunday, their voice is magnified. Their voice
- 35:27Speaker 1: is amplified. So when the players get involved, it says that, hey,
- 35:32Speaker 1: although we're professional athletes and we're busy and we have
- 35:36Speaker 1: a ton on our plates, this is important to us.
- 35:39Speaker 1: So when when professional athletes like Trey are willing to
- 35:43Speaker 1: go out and make that statement, it's everything because we
- 35:46Speaker 1: know how much work it takes, what we think, we
- 35:49Speaker 1: know how much work it takes to be a professional athlete,
- 35:52Speaker 1: but we understand that there's a lot of work involved.
- 35:55Speaker 1: So to have you know, Trey and Joe Burrow and
- 35:59Speaker 1: Sean William and all of those other guys just lining
- 36:02Speaker 1: up to say, Hey, this is what we want to
- 36:04Speaker 1: do in the city of Cincinnati and our entire team
- 36:07Speaker 1: as a part of this. That's exciting. You mentioned Mortar earlier.
- 36:12Speaker 1: A portion of the proceeds from the sales of Stripes
- 36:14Speaker 1: Don't come Easy Gear go to Mortar, which is a
- 36:17Speaker 1: program that's been recognized nationally. You're an alumnus. What does
- 36:22Speaker 1: Mortar do and how did it help you. Mortar is
- 36:25Speaker 1: an organization and their overall mission is to equip underserved
- 36:31Speaker 1: creators owners with the tools necessary to run a sustainable business.
- 36:37Speaker 1: And I think in our community we have ideas were
- 36:41Speaker 1: able to start businesses, but oftentimes we're not able to
- 36:45Speaker 1: sustain them. So Mortar was founded to provide those resources
- 36:49Speaker 1: to people like myself. So I actually took the Mortar
- 36:53Speaker 1: class after I launched a brand, after I graduated from
- 36:58Speaker 1: Miami University. But still in taking a class, there were
- 37:02Speaker 1: things that I was able to learn during the class
- 37:05Speaker 1: that allowed me to get to this point. But the
- 37:08Speaker 1: knowledge is great, but what's also important for entrepreneurs like
- 37:11Speaker 1: myself or those relationships, and Mortar is a lifelong relationship.
- 37:16Speaker 1: I traveled with those guys. I consider them guys brothers.
- 37:20Speaker 1: So the fact that I have the opportunity to promote excellence,
- 37:25Speaker 1: sell some of my greatest designs and donate to my friends,
- 37:30Speaker 1: this is a win win all around. We're chatting the
- 37:33Speaker 1: meats camera and the owner of Black Owned Outer where
- 37:36Speaker 1: the Bengals are one of thirty two NFL franchises. What
- 37:40Speaker 1: does it mean to you to partner with an NFL team?
- 37:44Speaker 1: So I have to be honest with you. Then at
- 37:46Speaker 1: the beginning of the year, every year I try to
- 37:48Speaker 1: set goals twenty or less things that I want to accomplish.
- 37:53Speaker 1: And one of my goals was I wanted to design
- 37:55Speaker 1: a uniform for a professional team. And I was work
- 38:00Speaker 1: in that lane because I think now is the time
- 38:03Speaker 1: to kind of get in there and put myself in
- 38:05Speaker 1: a hat. And I was thinking, hey, I could do
- 38:07Speaker 1: this and it came in a different form, but this
- 38:11Speaker 1: is this is just as great, and so I put
- 38:14Speaker 1: a check next to that that goal for twenty twenty.
- 38:17Speaker 1: So it means it means a lot. You grow up.
- 38:19Speaker 1: I grew up playing football. I started at the age
- 38:22Speaker 1: of four playing the game. I was a big kid,
- 38:25Speaker 1: but I started young and I played all the way
- 38:27Speaker 1: through high school. We grew up one to be NFL players.
- 38:32Speaker 1: I think in my neighborhood downtown Cincinnati, for a lot
- 38:36Speaker 1: of us, that's our out, being good athletes, wanting to
- 38:39Speaker 1: make it out and do better for our family. So
- 38:42Speaker 1: I never made it to the NFL to be a
- 38:44Speaker 1: part of the team in that way, but with this partnership,
- 38:48Speaker 1: I've certainly made the team. The Stripes Don't Come Easy.
- 38:51Speaker 1: Collection goes on sale Saturday, December twelfth. What's it going
- 38:56Speaker 1: to be like for you when you see people walking
- 38:59Speaker 1: around town wearing that gear or carrying the bag with
- 39:04Speaker 1: that message on it. It's nine years in and sometime
- 39:07Speaker 1: I'm still amazed that people take their harder on money
- 39:10Speaker 1: and bring it to my shop and spend it with me,
- 39:13Speaker 1: because I know how hard it takes for me to
- 39:15Speaker 1: make money, so I'm still in amazement. So all I
- 39:19Speaker 1: can say to that is that once the campaign launches,
- 39:24Speaker 1: and you know, and the town starts to fill up
- 39:26Speaker 1: and people are wearing this, I think that'll that'll be
- 39:29Speaker 1: another check mark on my twenty goals, which is to
- 39:34Speaker 1: make the city of Cincinnati a little smaller and that's
- 39:38Speaker 1: what we have the opportunity to do here. And a
- 39:41Speaker 1: lot of times it's about understanding more so than anything else,
- 39:46Speaker 1: just understanding. And I think this capsule will create those
- 39:53Speaker 1: very important conversations that need to be had in coffee
- 39:58Speaker 1: shops and board rooms about what it is that we
- 40:03Speaker 1: can do when we understand one another, and when we're
- 40:07Speaker 1: supporting minority owned businesses, a couple of hometown businesses trying
- 40:13Speaker 1: to make Cincinnati a more unified place. The Cincinnati Bengals
- 40:16Speaker 1: and Black owned outerwear means congratulations. We look forward to
- 40:21Speaker 1: seeing this all over town. Thank you very much. It
- 40:25Speaker 1: is a great honor to be on his own with you.
- 40:28Speaker 1: This is amazing, So thank you, Dan, and appreciate all
- 40:31Speaker 1: of the work that you've put in for a city.
- 40:34Speaker 1: If you have a Bengals fan on your Christmas list,
- 40:37Speaker 1: the Stripes Don't come easy. Gear includes a jacket, a
- 40:41Speaker 1: hoodie that's what I want, a jogging suit, a T shirt,
