- 0:57Speaker 2: All right, welcome. It is Radio Night Live. It is
- 1:00Speaker 2: Travel Tuesday. She's Linda Perillo and I'm Kevin McCullough. And Linda,
- 1:04Speaker 2: it's good to see you. I think... Was it a
- 1:07Speaker 2: week ago tonight or tomorrow night that we were on
- 1:10Speaker 2: the boat together? I think it was I think it
- 1:11Speaker 2: was tomorrow night, but it was.
- 1:13Speaker 3: It was so much fun. I wasn't there.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Oh, that's right. You weren't the one person not there.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Christine was there and Hillary was there and you weren't there.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Yes, I'm sorry. I was not there.
- 1:22Speaker 2: No wonder I couldn't remember. I was like, where did
- 1:25Speaker 2: I see Linda? When did I say I didn't? Well,
- 1:27Speaker 2: you were there. You were too good to be with us,
- 1:29Speaker 2: I guess.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Well, so guess what? That either means I am unforgettable
- 1:33Speaker 3: because I'm always on your mind and you thought I
- 1:35Speaker 3: was there.
- 1:36Speaker 2: You obviously were.
- 1:37Speaker 3: You channeled me.
- 1:37Speaker 2: That's right.
- 1:38Speaker 3: That's what it is. That's all I'm going to say.
- 1:42Speaker 2: And my bride was not pleased because she was like,
- 1:45Speaker 2: the year before, Linda and I were table buddies and
- 1:47Speaker 2: we hung out the whole night. And she was like,
- 1:50Speaker 2: that's not that's not cool. But so she she had
- 1:52Speaker 2: she had to put up with Christine Nicholas. That was her.
- 1:55Speaker 2: That was her table. That was her table buddy this
- 1:58Speaker 2: this year. And she really forced herself through that. In fact,
- 2:01Speaker 2: it was such a drudgery. That Christine invited she and
- 2:05Speaker 2: the kids to come to House of Spells yesterday, which
- 2:09Speaker 2: is the new store in Manhattan that has all the,
- 2:11Speaker 2: it's like the fantasy universe. So they've got like a
- 2:15Speaker 2: Harry Potter section and they've got a Marvel section and
- 2:17Speaker 2: they've got all these things. And the kids had the
- 2:19Speaker 2: day off, so they got to go in and be
- 2:23Speaker 2: little models for the new Harry Potter sweaters for the fall. Wow.
- 2:29Speaker 2: But that's how little they got along. Immediately, Christine's recruiting
- 2:33Speaker 2: them into a gig. The problem with working with the
- 2:38Speaker 2: people in the Kevin McCullough radio universe is that you
- 2:41Speaker 2: guys are all such nice people. You're all friendly with
- 2:45Speaker 2: each other. It's like a big family. We are. I'm
- 2:50Speaker 2: like the great grandpa of a huge family, and I
- 2:52Speaker 2: love it.
- 2:53Speaker 3: No, don't say grandpa, Kevin.
- 2:56Speaker 2: No, great grandpa.
- 2:57Speaker 3: How about patriarch?
- 2:59Speaker 2: Well, okay, come on. That's only like time immemorial. Abraham
- 3:04Speaker 2: is the father. Nobody says Sarah is the mother of nations.
- 3:07Speaker 2: They say Abraham is the father of nations. But having
- 3:09Speaker 2: said that, I'm at church on Sunday and we lead
- 3:14Speaker 2: a community group in our home where we have people
- 3:17Speaker 2: come over like once a week or once every other
- 3:19Speaker 2: week and we get together and we talk about spiritual
- 3:22Speaker 2: things and we pray for each other and stuff like that.
- 3:25Speaker 2: And this was the Sunday where at church, if people
- 3:29Speaker 2: wanted to sign up to be part of community groups,
- 3:30Speaker 2: the leaders were there in between the services to tell
- 3:33Speaker 2: them about where they meet and what time and that
- 3:35Speaker 2: sort of thing. And I walk in expecting to man
- 3:39Speaker 2: my table and I get mugged by this lady who's
- 3:42Speaker 2: got shockingly white hair. I felt like I needed to
- 3:47Speaker 2: assist her over to her table where she was supposed
- 3:49Speaker 2: to be. And she comes up to me and she goes, yes,
- 3:53Speaker 2: I would like you to join our community group. She goes,
- 3:57Speaker 2: we're a group of seniors and we meet once a month.
- 4:02Speaker 3: Don't you love that?
- 4:03Speaker 2: That's never happened before. I've always been the young guy
- 4:06Speaker 2: everywhere I've gone. And I'm no longer the young guy.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Well, I still throw out my AARP. male promos, Kevin,
- 4:15Speaker 3: and I probably shouldn't because that's 55 and above, as
- 4:19Speaker 3: you know. And they do have some great deals. I
- 4:23Speaker 3: just cannot believe it.
- 4:25Speaker 2: So I said, well, how old do you have to
- 4:27Speaker 2: be to join the senior group? And she goes, oh,
- 4:29Speaker 2: we're for everybody who's 60 years of age and older.
- 4:32Speaker 2: And I'm like, I'm not 60.
- 4:36Speaker 3: I would have died. I would have been like, no,
- 4:38Speaker 3: I have one more year.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Stop. I have four more years. Thank you. But I
- 4:43Speaker 2: think that she just thought because I have no hair
- 4:47Speaker 2: on top and everything that is there is gray and
- 4:49Speaker 2: white on the side. I just think she assumed, oh,
- 4:51Speaker 2: here's grandpa.
- 4:52Speaker 1: He needs.
- 4:52Speaker 2: He needs some community to hang out with, so we'll
- 4:55Speaker 2: make it a bit.
- 4:55Speaker 3: It's like Vincent Price is lurking in the background going, oh,
- 4:59Speaker 3: they're coming for you.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Right.
- 5:05Speaker 3: The journey of the thriller.
- 5:07Speaker 2: All right. Well.
- 5:09Speaker 3: It's time, Kevin.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Having said that. It is time. Having said that, that
- 5:12Speaker 2: was that was a type of speech I didn't necessarily appreciate.
- 5:16Speaker 2: But I did. I did. And she when she when
- 5:19Speaker 2: she realized that I was like, look, I've got teenage
- 5:22Speaker 2: kids and we lead a group. I'm not going to
- 5:24Speaker 2: join another group. And she goes, oh, even for one
- 5:27Speaker 2: night a week? I'm like, no. No.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:31Speaker 2: I'm not old enough yet. A week? In my mind,
- 5:36Speaker 2: I'm going to be like, I'm not old enough for
- 5:39Speaker 2: another 10 years. I don't want to join the senior
- 5:41Speaker 2: groups when I'm 70. Right. I don't either.
- 5:44Speaker 3: I don't either. Having said that, I do want to
- 5:48Speaker 3: say something. You can have seniors and stuff. I and
- 5:52Speaker 3: Christine Nicholas, you mentioned her. I was with Christine and
- 5:56Speaker 3: I was with actually my son, Devin and Steve Edwards
- 5:59Speaker 3: at the New Jersey Hall of Fame on Friday to
- 6:03Speaker 3: try and get Mario in there. So we had to
- 6:06Speaker 3: take Mario Papa. So the P.S. on this is that
- 6:10Speaker 3: mall is freaking insane. That insanity that the American dream
- 6:15Speaker 3: was like nobody in there. But walking from one end
- 6:18Speaker 3: to another, you could die in between.
- 6:21Speaker 2: No one would know. No, I would find the body weeks.
- 6:25Speaker 3: I the body at Air May and nobody will find you.
- 6:29Speaker 3: And that's what that's what that is. But the P.S.
- 6:32Speaker 3: on this whole thing is go visit. It is amazing. Unbelievable.
- 6:38Speaker 3: And you don't realize how many people, Kevin, have come
- 6:42Speaker 3: from New Jersey, really, truly, that have made their mark
- 6:47Speaker 3: in the world. I mean, it is incredible value. Take
- 6:51Speaker 3: your kids. I'm going to take my kids back.
- 6:53Speaker 2: So the New Jersey Italian American Hall of Fame is
- 6:57Speaker 2: at the American.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Not Italian American.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Nope.
- 7:00Speaker 3: It's the New Jersey Hall of Fame.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Oh, just New Jersey. Well, yeah. You know, it's funny.
- 7:05Speaker 2: The only people I know that have been nominated are Italians. Well,
- 7:10Speaker 2: there are a lot. A lot of Gano's in there.
- 7:14Speaker 2: If your dad gets nominated, Perillo would be in there.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Three Italians nominated.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Why not, Kev?
- 7:20Speaker 2: Sorry. Well, I'm saying it's fine. I just, I did
- 7:22Speaker 2: not know. McCullough.
- 7:23Speaker 3: Thomas Edison is, obviously.
- 7:26Speaker 2: See, I didn't know he's in there. I'm just saying
- 7:28Speaker 2: the people that I personally know that are in the
- 7:30Speaker 2: New Jersey Hall of Fame. And we've been to, we
- 7:32Speaker 2: go to the American Dream. We take the kids like
- 7:34Speaker 2: at least once a year. No way.
- 7:36Speaker 3: These are, Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, they were all Jersey guys.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Okay.
- 7:42Speaker 3: So, you know, it's real. That's what I'm saying. You
- 7:44Speaker 3: wouldn't know. Like, you think of the bigger names, right? Like, Libs,
- 7:49Speaker 3: Bon Jovi, Springsteen. You almost want to disassociate yourself because
- 7:54Speaker 3: they gave great speeches. But like, you know where they're
- 7:57Speaker 3: coming from, right? Danny DeVito. Fun guys. You know who?
- 8:04Speaker 3: You would bet you didn't know this because I didn't
- 8:06Speaker 3: know this. How about Jason Alexander? Did you know he
- 8:09Speaker 3: was right here from Livingston?
- 8:10Speaker 2: Oh, from Seinfeld. Yeah.
- 8:12Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, so many athletes and authors and Theravon.
- 8:20Speaker 2: I mean, like, do you have to have been born
- 8:22Speaker 2: in New Jersey or just lived in New Jersey?
- 8:24Speaker 3: No, just lived in New Jersey for a certain period
- 8:27Speaker 3: of time because my father was born in the Bronx.
- 8:29Speaker 2: So I'm curious how Christine got nominated because she she's
- 8:34Speaker 2: really made her bones in New York. And she grew
- 8:37Speaker 2: up in she grew up in Brooklyn. She has made
- 8:40Speaker 2: all of her fame is, you know, in New York City.
- 8:44Speaker 2: But she's she was nominated and inducted into the New
- 8:47Speaker 2: Jersey Hall of Fame as Christine. No, no, no.
- 8:52Speaker 3: No, it's got then she's got to be in the Italian.
- 8:55Speaker 3: She's not in the New Jersey.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Come on. I can't keep these straight. How many halls
- 8:59Speaker 2: of fame are there?
- 9:00Speaker 3: I don't know. I guess there's an Italian American Hall
- 9:03Speaker 3: of Fame. There has to be. Maybe that's got to
- 9:04Speaker 3: get Mario in there.
- 9:05Speaker 2: But Piscopo's in the New Jersey Hall of Fame.
- 9:09Speaker 3: I don't know if he is. I'm not really sure.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Maybe he's in the Italian American.
- 9:13Speaker 3: Hall of Fame.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Yes. Okay.
- 9:15Speaker 3: Listen, we're going to do some research on this and
- 9:17Speaker 3: we're going to get back to you next week.
- 9:18Speaker 2: So we won't sound like idiots. Right. Because that's what
- 9:21Speaker 2: I sound like right now.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Who won't sound like it? Wait, get back up there.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Because I sound like it right now.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Take the we out of this, Kevin.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Well, you told me that they were in the New Jersey.
- 9:33Speaker 2: You corrected me. You said I said Italian American Hall
- 9:35Speaker 2: of Fame. He's like, no, no, no. It's the New
- 9:36Speaker 2: Jersey Hall of Fame. OK, well, OK. So this I
- 9:40Speaker 2: didn't know. We go to American Dream every year. We
- 9:42Speaker 2: take the kids a couple of times a year. The
- 9:44Speaker 2: New Jersey Hall of Fame is at the American Dream Mall.
- 9:48Speaker 2: And you can go and see all these people that
- 9:49Speaker 2: you just named. And they're inducted shrines and so forth.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Exhibits. The exhibits are A.I. They're intense. Loved it. Yep.
- 9:58Speaker 2: And well, if anybody deserves. to be in there, I
- 10:00Speaker 2: think Mario definitely does. So we're going to be pulling
- 10:03Speaker 2: for that. Got to take a quick break. She's Linda.
- 10:06Speaker 2: I'm Kevin. It's Tuesday. Don't go anywhere.
- 10:10Speaker 1: From New York, it's Radio Night Live with Kevin McCullough.
- 10:15Speaker 2: All right. Welcome back. She's Linda. I'm Kevin. It's Radio
- 10:19Speaker 2: Night Live and it's Tuesday. And because it's a Linda
- 10:22Speaker 2: Perillo and a Kevin McCullough, we usually talk about travel.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Why do we talk about travel? Because... Well, I edit
- 10:28Speaker 2: the Passport Life newsletter, which has like two million people
- 10:32Speaker 2: that open it every month. And Linda Perillo, if your
- 10:34Speaker 2: last name is Perillo, you're automatically associated with travel anyway.
- 10:38Speaker 2: So it's like you just it's just the natural thing.
- 10:40Speaker 2: But sometimes we talk about other things. And Linda, your
- 10:44Speaker 2: your education is in journalism, as was mine. I was
- 10:49Speaker 2: a theology minor with a journalism major. And you were
- 10:54Speaker 2: a journalism, journalism.
- 10:56Speaker 3: No, criminal justice minor.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Whoa.
- 10:59Speaker 2: So criminal justice with journalism. So good thing that I've
- 11:04Speaker 2: never gone to jail because you would know exactly how
- 11:07Speaker 2: to throw the book.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Yes.
- 11:09Speaker 3: And I visited Sing Sing, too. That was horrendous. OK.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Have you ever been to Alcatraz?
- 11:15Speaker 3: Yeah. You can't get into Alcatraz.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Right.
- 11:19Speaker 3: But I've never been in. But I was just there
- 11:22Speaker 3: in March with Devin and we took a tour around
- 11:25Speaker 3: San Francisco on the boat.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:28Speaker 3: And you could see Alcatraz. But we didn't.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Not quite like Circle and Capri, is it? It's not.
- 11:32Speaker 3: Oh, no, Kevin.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Not quite.
- 11:36Speaker 3: I want to.
- 11:38Speaker 3: But listen, it beats looking out from Rikers Island, I
- 11:42Speaker 3: could imagine.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Well, there you go. Speaking of incredibly stellar places you
- 11:47Speaker 2: want to be. So anyway, having said that, I don't
- 11:52Speaker 2: know if people have paid attention, but in the last
- 11:54Speaker 2: 24 or 48 hours, there has been this debate in
- 11:59Speaker 2: the field of journalism that is like ripping people stem
- 12:03Speaker 2: from stern. And it is this... horrific reaction that everyone's
- 12:08Speaker 2: having to president Trump temporarily telling CNN that he's revoked
- 12:14Speaker 2: their hall pass. Um, basically he took away their parking privileges,
- 12:19Speaker 2: their ability to bring a TV crew in and one
- 12:22Speaker 2: seat in the press room because they felt like that
- 12:27Speaker 2: CNN wasn't being honest in what it was reporting. And so, um,
- 12:32Speaker 2: This is this is there's no guarantee that every press
- 12:35Speaker 2: organization that applies for a credential is going to get one.
- 12:38Speaker 2: And so they revoked it. And when you I don't
- 12:42Speaker 2: think there's any question when you watch the primetime lineup
- 12:46Speaker 2: of CNN and you watch the what's that African-American girl's
- 12:50Speaker 2: name that does the roundtable? She's got like six people
- 12:53Speaker 2: at the table every night. And it's somewhat split up evenly.
- 12:57Speaker 2: But like Scott Jennings is on there and sometimes Joe
- 12:59Speaker 2: Borelli is on there and some of some of some
- 13:01Speaker 2: of my other friends. But there will oftentimes be flat-out
- 13:07Speaker 2: dishonest stuff said that even some of the conservative commentators
- 13:11Speaker 2: that are on the panel try to rebut and then
- 13:14Speaker 2: they're shut down by the host or it's not allowed
- 13:16Speaker 2: to be countered or whatever. And when that's the primetime lineup,
- 13:21Speaker 2: then you factor in some of the stories and packages
- 13:24Speaker 2: that they do where they just flat-out misstate things. And
- 13:28Speaker 2: you're like, well, okay, I kind of understand why The
- 13:31Speaker 2: administration's not so keen on letting someone who's going to
- 13:35Speaker 2: come in misrepresent what happens and go out and blast
- 13:39Speaker 2: stories about it everywhere. I can kind of understand their
- 13:42Speaker 2: unwillingness to do that. Well, what I don't think the
- 13:45Speaker 2: White House was anticipating was that ABC and CBS and
- 13:50Speaker 2: NBC and Fox News were all going to, in solidarity,
- 13:55Speaker 2: stand with CNN and and say, we're going to make
- 13:59Speaker 2: sure that we send the message to the White House
- 14:01Speaker 2: that they can't just willy-nilly revoke press passes. You know,
- 14:07Speaker 2: the Obama administration and the Biden administration had also gone
- 14:11Speaker 2: after outlets in a way that seemed, to me, you know,
- 14:19Speaker 2: unconstitutional or at least inconsistent with what they had done
- 14:23Speaker 2: in the past. And I turned up An entire list
- 14:27Speaker 2: of things that I had forgotten about. At one point
- 14:31Speaker 2: in time, Brian Stelter of what network? CNN at the
- 14:37Speaker 2: time actually did make a suggestion and went on an
- 14:40Speaker 2: open air campaign. on his show for the Obama White
- 14:44Speaker 2: House to ban Fox News from all coverage of the
- 14:47Speaker 2: White House, not give them any access to any part
- 14:50Speaker 2: of government. The White House didn't revoke CNN's access to
- 14:54Speaker 2: the Pentagon or to the Justice Department or to the
- 14:56Speaker 2: other divisions of the executive branch. They just revoked the
- 14:59Speaker 2: White House pass. Stelter advocated for Obama to do it
- 15:03Speaker 2: for all access to all the areas. But that wasn't
- 15:08Speaker 2: the only thing. They also spied on James Rosen. They
- 15:12Speaker 2: tapped his phones. They went after his private correspondence. And
- 15:16Speaker 2: this was all in advance of the Russiagate stuff that
- 15:19Speaker 2: they were implicated in. And then there were a number
- 15:21Speaker 2: of other, probably a dozen instances in which either the
- 15:24Speaker 2: Obama or the Biden administrations took punitive actions against networks
- 15:28Speaker 2: and said, Well, we didn't like this story that you ran,
- 15:31Speaker 2: so you're going to you're going to pay for it.
- 15:33Speaker 2: And this is what we're going to do. So to
- 15:35Speaker 2: have all of this, you know, whining and moaning and
- 15:39Speaker 2: belly aching and on the ground, you know, heaving like
- 15:43Speaker 2: some sort of like demon possessed girl. I don't know
- 15:46Speaker 2: what these networks are doing. Like, why are they going
- 15:50Speaker 2: to the wall on this? when it's just a hall
- 15:53Speaker 2: pass for a couple of days just to send the
- 15:56Speaker 2: message to CNN that you need to clean up, you know,
- 15:59Speaker 2: you didn't do that for the other side.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Well, you know, I think, Kevin, again, right, so what's
- 16:07Speaker 3: the basic premise here that we're going back to? Basic
- 16:11Speaker 3: constitutional premise that everyone likes to go back to the Constitution, right?
- 16:19Speaker 3: Whether it's Here, in this case, it's free speech, whether
- 16:22Speaker 3: it's the right to bear arms, all that stuff. However,
- 16:27Speaker 3: what we don't tap into when when we use that
- 16:30Speaker 3: as I'm going to say is an excuse. We don't
- 16:33Speaker 3: tap into what has happened since. those words were documented
- 16:40Speaker 3: to guide our country. A lot of things have happened.
- 16:46Speaker 3: There was much more respect and protocol way back then
- 16:52Speaker 3: for even your adversarial choice of candidate, right? So I
- 16:58Speaker 3: think we were never as divided as we are now, admittedly,
- 17:03Speaker 3: because I always say to people, I was never political, right?
- 17:07Speaker 3: Until I had to get political within the past like
- 17:11Speaker 3: eight years.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Right.
- 17:12Speaker 3: So when I was in college, I was also what
- 17:16Speaker 3: we called a stringer. Okay, you know what a stringer is, right? So,
- 17:21Speaker 3: you know, you get pennies on the dollar, too.
- 17:24Speaker 2: But you file stories from where you are, and yeah.
- 17:27Speaker 3: Right, and I did the police blotter and the whole thing,
- 17:29Speaker 3: and we were trained, you know, with what was coming over.
- 17:31Speaker 3: At the time, it was AP. When I was at Fordham,
- 17:34Speaker 3: it was like, what was on the AP? What was
- 17:36Speaker 3: coming over the wire? And the bottom line is this.
- 17:40Speaker 3: We were taught significantly to be fair. When it comes
- 17:44Speaker 3: to news reporting... You need to be fair and report
- 17:51Speaker 3: the facts and not have a slant. And I don't know, really,
- 17:56Speaker 3: if a thousand percent that's been done. However, it has
- 18:00Speaker 3: not been done in the past eight years. Right. So
- 18:04Speaker 3: me as a layperson sitting on the couch watching television,
- 18:08Speaker 3: I can tell you, unless it's my background. I can
- 18:11Speaker 3: tell you, Kevin, right away, the slant this reporter has,
- 18:14Speaker 3: that reporter has, this commentator has, that commentator has. I
- 18:18Speaker 3: could tell you who they probably voted for just by
- 18:21Speaker 3: listening to how they present the story. And that is
- 18:26Speaker 3: what Donald Trump is trying to quash. You've got to remember,
- 18:30Speaker 3: he comes from old school everything. Old school business, as
- 18:36Speaker 3: you can see the way he's running the country. Old
- 18:37Speaker 3: school journalism. Old school politics. everything and i don't think
- 18:44Speaker 3: they're they are playing fair in the sandbox most of
- 18:47Speaker 3: the press kevin does not like him we know this
- 18:52Speaker 3: because most of the press i'm going to say 90.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Are libs well you're exactly spot on in that um
- 19:00Speaker 2: they did a recent survey and 92 of all coverage
- 19:03Speaker 2: of the white house across all the press was negative
- 19:06Speaker 2: she's linda i'm kevin it's uh tuesday stay here.
- 19:14Speaker 1: And now, from New York, back to Radio Night Live,
- 19:17Speaker 1: here's Kevin McCullough.
- 19:20Speaker 2: All right, and we're back. Kevin McCullough, glad to have
- 19:22Speaker 2: you with us. Free speech in America, not really a
- 19:24Speaker 2: travel topic, but something that is of interest and something
- 19:29Speaker 2: that is now being really argued about. And, you know,
- 19:32Speaker 2: it's interesting that you made that point just before we
- 19:35Speaker 2: went to break, Linda, because that was one of the
- 19:37Speaker 2: things that the White House cited was saying, look, if
- 19:40Speaker 2: 92 percent, when... For Biden, it varied over the course
- 19:45Speaker 2: of the administration, but the highest that it ever was
- 19:48Speaker 2: was 60%. and the lowest that it was was in
- 19:51Speaker 2: the high 30s in terms of negative coverage something tells
- 19:56Speaker 2: me that 90% and if you go back to his
- 20:00Speaker 2: first term it was comparable it was in the high
- 20:03Speaker 2: 80s to mid 90s something is not quite right right
- 20:09Speaker 2: there And, you know... Opponents will say, well, that's just
- 20:13Speaker 2: because his policies are that bad. Really? If that was
- 20:16Speaker 2: the case. See, here's the disconnect. And this is the
- 20:19Speaker 2: big problem. You had more people than have ever voted
- 20:23Speaker 2: in an election in their life vote for this president
- 20:27Speaker 2: in the last election.
- 20:29Speaker 3: That I was just going to bring.
- 20:30Speaker 2: He won the popular vote. He won the Electoral College.
- 20:33Speaker 2: He won a majority of the states. He won in
- 20:36Speaker 2: every in every demographic that he won women. He won men.
- 20:39Speaker 2: He won women. More African-Americans, more Latinos. You just go
- 20:43Speaker 2: across all the demographics. He outperformed every winning Republican and
- 20:48Speaker 2: every winning regular candidate for president in the history of
- 20:53Speaker 2: the country. So how can the press say that they're
- 20:57Speaker 2: doing a fair job and say that that that 90
- 21:00Speaker 2: something percent of their coverage is negative coverage? And that
- 21:04Speaker 2: they're reporting accurately what he represents to a people that
- 21:08Speaker 2: overwhelmingly ushered him into office. That is one of the
- 21:13Speaker 2: biggest disconnects to me. And the Biden percentages look a
- 21:17Speaker 2: lot more like real life. If 30 percent of the
- 21:20Speaker 2: country was highly critical of Biden, then that was probably
- 21:24Speaker 2: reflective of how how evenly the votes were, which it
- 21:27Speaker 2: was a very evenly voted election. Same with Obama. He
- 21:31Speaker 2: was you know, he did not have near the negative
- 21:33Speaker 2: numbers that Biden had even he had lower numbers. So
- 21:37Speaker 2: you're talking about a difference and a disconnect between the
- 21:40Speaker 2: population and what the press is reporting. And that's because
- 21:44Speaker 2: real simple. And you've already touched on this. That's because
- 21:46Speaker 2: the press is 90 percent of the worldview that agrees
- 21:51Speaker 2: with the other party. Yeah.
- 21:52Speaker 3: Yeah, a thousand percent. And, you know, sometimes, especially on
- 21:55Speaker 3: a Sunday morning, you know, when you're waiting for like
- 21:58Speaker 3: local news to come on, you know, you watch a
- 22:00Speaker 3: little bit of like Margaret Brennan from Face the Nation.
- 22:04Speaker 3: You know, she comes in. She does.
- 22:05Speaker 2: She's so bad.
- 22:06Speaker 3: She can talk. Oh, my God. She talks for 20
- 22:09Speaker 3: seconds and I go in my head. I'm cursing her out, going,
- 22:13Speaker 3: girly girl, I know where you're going with this and
- 22:16Speaker 3: your Ivy League education. Like, I know where this is headed.
- 22:20Speaker 3: Why even bother having a discussion with anybody and face
- 22:24Speaker 3: the nation and having, you know, a forum when you
- 22:27Speaker 3: really don't have a forum?
- 22:28Speaker 2: But they're pretending they're pretending that this is all like.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Legit journalism. And this is my bigger point. And Nora O'Donnell,
- 22:36Speaker 2: this last Sunday on 60 Minutes, she's doing a piece on,
- 22:42Speaker 2: and this is something that I think there is legitimate
- 22:46Speaker 2: disagreement with across the country. She does a piece on
- 22:49Speaker 2: data centers and what they're going to do to communities
- 22:52Speaker 2: across the country. She goes to arguably three areas where
- 22:58Speaker 2: they're going to be impacted and And she finds the
- 23:01Speaker 2: one side that argues the one side of the viewpoint
- 23:04Speaker 2: that I'm pretty sure she agrees with and talks to
- 23:07Speaker 2: them and does the in-depth confessional talk to talk, you know,
- 23:10Speaker 2: does the sound bites and has all the things lined up.
- 23:13Speaker 2: The questions that she asked, I'm sitting there watching it
- 23:16Speaker 2: with my family and they know that I'm, you know,
- 23:19Speaker 2: highly critiquing, you know, journalists that are doing the interviews
- 23:23Speaker 2: and so forth. The questions that she asked were softball
- 23:27Speaker 2: and lame questions. And she did not have any representation
- 23:31Speaker 2: of the other side counter-arguing whatever it was, the side
- 23:35Speaker 2: that she was presenting. So what do you get? You
- 23:37Speaker 2: get this hack job of this presentation that, in her situation,
- 23:43Speaker 2: took one side of the data center debate and advanced
- 23:47Speaker 2: it through three separate interviews, three separate staging areas where
- 23:51Speaker 2: they talked to these people, but they only represented the
- 23:53Speaker 2: one side. Didn't talk to a single citizen or a
- 23:56Speaker 2: single person personally. that represented the countering viewpoint. And I
- 23:59Speaker 2: haven't even told you what the viewpoint was that she embraced.
- 24:03Speaker 2: And that's why, you know, that what she did was
- 24:05Speaker 2: wrong because I didn't tell you which side she took
- 24:08Speaker 2: in what I just explained. And I'm not going to
- 24:10Speaker 2: tell you what I'm going to say is it was
- 24:13Speaker 2: so imbalanced that there was no way you could look
- 24:15Speaker 2: at it and go, Oh, that's good journalism. No, I
- 24:17Speaker 2: told my kids, I said, do you see how she
- 24:20Speaker 2: is framing this, how it's all like, and there's no
- 24:23Speaker 2: other viewpoint. Right. And they were like, yeah, dad, that's
- 24:26Speaker 2: not that doesn't seem. And my kids are very they're
- 24:30Speaker 2: they're very curious anyway. They want to know they want
- 24:34Speaker 2: to understand better, like what they're watching and they want
- 24:38Speaker 2: to know the details. And my 16 year old, my gosh,
- 24:40Speaker 2: he wants to know the minutia of the arguments because
- 24:43Speaker 2: he wants to be able to, I think, discuss them
- 24:46Speaker 2: with his friends, you know, on his campus and so forth.
- 24:49Speaker 2: But like they really want to think deeply and understand
- 24:52Speaker 2: the differences in the opinions. And I said, you won't
- 24:55Speaker 2: get that from this story because Nora O'Donnell didn't do
- 24:58Speaker 2: anything to give it to you.
- 25:00Speaker 3: Nora O'Donnell, no, she won't. And another one, you know,
- 25:02Speaker 3: of course.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Hold on, hold that thought. Got to take another quick break.
- 25:05Speaker 2: She's Linda, I'm Kevin. We're talking journalism on The Travel Show.
- 25:08Speaker 2: Stay with us.
- 25:10Speaker 3: Ooh, what a little moonlight can do.
- 25:14Speaker 1: It's Radio Night Live. Here's Kevin McCullough.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Ooh, ooh, ooh. All right, we're talking journalism, fair coverage,
- 25:21Speaker 2: what it means. It's not a travel-related topic, but, you know,
- 25:26Speaker 2: sometimes Linda and I like to talk about other things. Linda,
- 25:29Speaker 2: just before the break, we were talking about Norah O'Donnell,
- 25:32Speaker 2: and you mentioned Margaret Brennan, and you had another follow-up
- 25:35Speaker 2: thought you wanted to add.
- 25:36Speaker 3: I was, you know, listen, CBS is what's on in
- 25:38Speaker 3: my house usually. So I, you know, Gayle King, you know,
- 25:42Speaker 3: she's another one, too. Like you can always tell like
- 25:46Speaker 3: where they're not presenting anything fairly. And the other thing is,
- 25:51Speaker 3: if you notice, they never have on a guest that
- 25:54Speaker 3: doesn't side with them. They cannot give. Do you remember
- 25:58Speaker 3: old SNL podcasts? Point, counterpoint, Chevy Chase and Jane Kirk.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Well, they were making fun of Tucker Carlson and Paul
- 26:05Speaker 2: Begala when they were on CNN.
- 26:07Speaker 3: Well, but the thing is, that's fair.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Let me hear what the other side has to say,
- 26:15Speaker 3: because you know what, Kevin? If you're intelligent and you're
- 26:18Speaker 3: open minded and you really have the best interest of
- 26:21Speaker 3: your country at heart. You are able to say without prejudice,
- 26:28Speaker 3: you know what? I'm going to think about that. I'm
- 26:30Speaker 3: going to chew on that. You may have a point.
- 26:33Speaker 3: I feel like this, but, you know, you're bringing me
- 26:36Speaker 3: some information that I may have to think about. Now,
- 26:38Speaker 3: is it going to change me politically? Am I going
- 26:40Speaker 3: to turn anti-Trump? Zero on that. The point is, it
- 26:43Speaker 3: is so left heavy, all of it, that.
- 26:49Speaker 3: You can't avoid it. So it becomes and I feel
- 26:51Speaker 3: badly like your kids, right? My kids, you know, it
- 26:54Speaker 3: becomes a brainwashing for the youth because they're not getting
- 26:59Speaker 3: a conservative point of view ever. So I condemn today's press.
- 27:05Speaker 3: I wouldn't want to be a journalist today. And that's
- 27:07Speaker 3: all I wanted to be was a journalist. I condemn
- 27:10Speaker 3: them for the way they are conducting this. And I
- 27:13Speaker 3: did not vote for Joe Biden. I did not vote
- 27:15Speaker 3: for Barack Obama. I never would. However, The respect for
- 27:20Speaker 3: them as a president and as a citizen of the
- 27:22Speaker 3: United States will always be there.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Because you respect the office. Because you respect the office.
- 27:29Speaker 3: Correct.
- 27:30Speaker 2: And we can, the beauty of what we have had
- 27:33Speaker 2: in America for the entirety of our existence is that
- 27:37Speaker 2: both with our military and with our population, we have
- 27:40Speaker 2: this peaceful transfer of power based on the will of
- 27:43Speaker 2: the people every four years. And we don't, We don't
- 27:48Speaker 2: break out in civil war. We don't we're not at
- 27:51Speaker 2: each other's throats. You know, we're not trying to kill
- 27:54Speaker 2: our fellow men who disagree with us. At least we're
- 27:56Speaker 2: not yet. It seems like that the really crazy far
- 28:01Speaker 2: left wing of the Democrats wants to change that. They
- 28:05Speaker 2: if you. If you see some of the polling that's
- 28:07Speaker 2: coming out now, the number of citizens in both parties
- 28:12Speaker 2: that condone violence to get their message across, in the Republican,
- 28:16Speaker 2: it's less than 2% of the total population. In Democrats,
- 28:21Speaker 2: it used to be less than 5%. It's now up
- 28:24Speaker 2: to like 20, 27% of Democrats will say, well, maybe
- 28:28Speaker 2: some violence is necessary to get your point across. Now,
- 28:30Speaker 2: think about the change in that percentage. If you've got...
- 28:34Speaker 2: 300 million people and half of them are Democrat and
- 28:36Speaker 2: half of them are Republican. And you had 2% of
- 28:40Speaker 2: them that said, well, maybe we should use violence to
- 28:42Speaker 2: get our message across, you know, nationally. And now one
- 28:46Speaker 2: half of that equation has one out of every four
- 28:49Speaker 2: people that think that way. Holy cow, what's going on?
- 28:53Speaker 2: Like something's happening on that side. And I think, and
- 28:56Speaker 2: this is where people are going to get mad at
- 28:58Speaker 2: me and that's okay. Send me the emails. I can
- 28:59Speaker 2: handle it. I actually think that the substance of what
- 29:03Speaker 2: the parties believe contributes to the welfare downfall of the
- 29:07Speaker 2: country and of the way that they actually think about things. So,
- 29:11Speaker 2: for example, who are conservative Republicans for the most part?
- 29:18Speaker 2: They are people that think that if they if they
- 29:21Speaker 2: have a faith and many of them do, that God
- 29:23Speaker 2: is someone who lives outside of them and who is
- 29:25Speaker 2: bigger than them and has some authority over them. Um,
- 29:29Speaker 2: Democrats almost universally don't believe that they believe that if
- 29:34Speaker 2: they believe in God, they think that he's something that
- 29:36Speaker 2: is kind of like a toy or something that fits
- 29:39Speaker 2: in their pocket or someone, you know, their buddy that
- 29:41Speaker 2: they can just pray to whenever. But it's not something
- 29:43Speaker 2: that they need to take seriously. But there's going to
- 29:46Speaker 2: be a difference then from where that worldview comes from
- 29:48Speaker 2: and how you treat other people. The party of abortion,
- 29:52Speaker 2: believe it or not, the party of abortion on demand,
- 29:55Speaker 2: believe it or not, the party of abortion, what they
- 29:59Speaker 2: call post birth, which is not abortion any longer. That's
- 30:02Speaker 2: actual infanticide. Once the child has survived the abortion and
- 30:06Speaker 2: you let it die, then that's infanticide. But that party
- 30:09Speaker 2: is also the party that largely supported Lindsay Clancy and
- 30:13Speaker 2: was like, Oh, forget about, forget about the kids. We
- 30:16Speaker 2: got to support the woman. Well, wait a minute. There's
- 30:18Speaker 2: three dead kids there. The other side, the right, would say, no, look,
- 30:23Speaker 2: those three kids are stamped with the image of God
- 30:26Speaker 2: in their DNA. They have the Imago Dei living in them,
- 30:29Speaker 2: that their lives were valuable. We need to be concerned
- 30:32Speaker 2: about the fact that there are three innocents that were
- 30:35Speaker 2: murdered here.
- 30:36Speaker 3: Nobody focuses on them. You're right. Nobody does.
- 30:39Speaker 2: At one point in time, both parties believed that murder
- 30:41Speaker 2: was wrong. At some point in time, the Democrats began
- 30:45Speaker 2: to say, well, murder is wrong, except in the instance of...
- 30:49Speaker 2: And then fill in the blank if it's a pre-born child.
- 30:52Speaker 2: If it's a very old person and they can be euthanized. Yesterday,
- 30:56Speaker 2: there was a woman euthanized in Canada for the first
- 30:59Speaker 2: time against her written expressed will. And she had no
- 31:03Speaker 2: say over it. Like the court said, you're going, this
- 31:06Speaker 2: is going to happen. I think that that's a troubling development.
- 31:10Speaker 3: In legal politics.
- 31:11Speaker 2: But that's not where the Republican side is at. That's
- 31:15Speaker 2: where the Democrat side is at. Why?
- 31:17Speaker 3: Why?
- 31:17Speaker 2: They used to say, both sides used to say, murder
- 31:20Speaker 2: is evil. Now, one side says, murder is evil, except
- 31:24Speaker 2: for the instance of blah, blah, blah. And then they
- 31:27Speaker 2: fill in.
- 31:27Speaker 3: Well, anything goes. Kevin, it's the generation of anything goes.
- 31:31Speaker 2: Well, if you don't have a restraining moral force like God,
- 31:34Speaker 2: then anything does go. Because there's no objective truth. So
- 31:38Speaker 2: you have to get back to what is real, what
- 31:40Speaker 2: is true, who are we, why were we made, what
- 31:43Speaker 2: are we here for? And our society as a whole,
- 31:46Speaker 2: Republicans and Democrats, for the most part, we don't ever
- 31:49Speaker 2: ask those eternally big questions anymore. We don't ever say, well,
- 31:53Speaker 2: what is my purpose in being here? Why am I
- 31:57Speaker 2: on this earth? What did God put me here for?
- 32:00Speaker 2: I think for me, it's to be a good husband,
- 32:02Speaker 2: a good dad, train up my replacement generation. Hopefully they
- 32:06Speaker 2: will do well after I'm gone. Try to leave a legacy,
- 32:09Speaker 2: try to make the world a better place while I'm here.
- 32:11Speaker 2: Those are kind of like the rough guidelines of why
- 32:14Speaker 2: I feel like I'm here. But we never as a
- 32:16Speaker 2: society ever ask those questions. We do every now and
- 32:19Speaker 2: then when nine 11 happens, when October 7th happens, when
- 32:22Speaker 2: somebody gets shot, like a president or Charlie Kirk or
- 32:25Speaker 2: someone like when there's a, when there's, when there's something
- 32:28Speaker 2: tragic that we stopped for like a half second and
- 32:30Speaker 2: we go, Oh, what's life really about? And then faster
- 32:34Speaker 2: as you know it, we're back to just being hair
- 32:36Speaker 2: on fire, going 90,000 miles an hour and not really
- 32:39Speaker 2: giving it any thought. And I think that that's to
- 32:41Speaker 2: our detriment because we're not serious people anymore.
- 32:44Speaker 3: No, and we're not God fearing people anymore. And I
- 32:47Speaker 3: always tell my kids, you know, no matter what, what
- 32:50Speaker 3: you believe in this country, we were founded on Christian principles, right?
- 32:56Speaker 3: Every single one of our forefathers. And even though they
- 32:59Speaker 3: fought for the freedom of religion, which really the genesis
- 33:01Speaker 3: of that is coming over from England.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Okay, hold this thought. We've got to take another break,
- 33:04Speaker 2: but I want you to end on this.
- 33:05Speaker 1: When we come back.
- 33:06Speaker 2: Stay here.
- 33:09Speaker 3: All right.
- 33:11Speaker 1: Once again, from New York, here's Radio Night Live and
- 33:15Speaker 1: Kevin McCullough.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Oh, my goodness. What an incredible conversation we've had tonight.
- 33:21Speaker 2: And none of it's been on travel. It's been about.
- 33:24Speaker 3: No, but I love it.
- 33:26Speaker 2: And Linda Perillo and Kevin McCullough, you've gotten your ear
- 33:29Speaker 2: full tonight from both of us. Linda, you wanted to
- 33:31Speaker 2: end on a note about the founding fathers.
- 33:34Speaker 3: Yes, I did, because we need to go back to this.
- 33:37Speaker 3: And even, you know, in Hamilton. Right. Well, Miranda, who
- 33:40Speaker 3: is very liberal and a great talent. I respect. Here
- 33:45Speaker 3: you go. I respect that. OK, we don't share the
- 33:49Speaker 3: same political views, but he's unbelievable. However, if you go
- 33:53Speaker 3: to see Hamilton, we learn so much about our forefathers
- 33:56Speaker 3: and what they did and their principles. This we are
- 34:01Speaker 3: one nation under God. Right. Right there. Pledge of Allegiance.
- 34:07Speaker 3: One nation under God. And we are supposed to adhere
- 34:12Speaker 3: to those principles under God. And really, we were started
- 34:18Speaker 3: by a generation based on Christian principles, Kevin. And that
- 34:24Speaker 3: has gotten completely watered down. Okay, and I'm respectful of
- 34:28Speaker 3: the other religions that have, I mean, listen, how many,
- 34:31Speaker 3: we're 250 years old now, right? So other things have
- 34:34Speaker 3: come into play. However, when we're dealing with people like
- 34:37Speaker 3: that complete jerk, horror story in New York City and
- 34:42Speaker 3: we can elect someone like that to govern what we
- 34:46Speaker 3: think is a small faction. But New York City really
- 34:48Speaker 3: isn't a small faction because they are very New York
- 34:51Speaker 3: City is very important.
- 34:53Speaker 2: I think it's a micro laboratory to the rest of
- 34:56Speaker 2: the country.
- 34:56Speaker 3: Absolutely. When we can do that, what happened to us?
- 35:01Speaker 3: Us as a nation. He, to me, exemplifies all that
- 35:06Speaker 3: liberal stuff we were talking about. And unfortunately, what we
- 35:10Speaker 3: have fallen to. Yeah. Remember 9-11, his ancestors. OK, period.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Well, 25 years after, just to show you how far
- 35:21Speaker 2: we've lost our way, we actually elected a mayor who
- 35:24Speaker 2: is sympathetic to the viewpoint of the people that killed
- 35:28Speaker 2: the Americans. I mean, it doesn't get right. Simple to
- 35:32Speaker 2: understand than that.
- 35:33Speaker 3: How do you do that? How do you do that?
- 35:37Speaker 3: And the press, let me just say this. E pluribus unum.
- 35:41Speaker 3: Remember that when you are reporting, right? We are one
- 35:46Speaker 3: country trying to live here peacefully and make it work
- 35:50Speaker 3: for everybody. And they have completely negated that fundamental phrase here.
- 35:56Speaker 2: Really, which is what happens when you remove God from
- 36:00Speaker 2: the equation. Absolutely. Which is my point. One body, one
- 36:04Speaker 2: one party actually did. It was, I don't know, six
- 36:08Speaker 2: now presidential cycles ago, took the took the under God
- 36:13Speaker 2: out of their platform, took all reference to God out
- 36:16Speaker 2: of their platform. And they have basically said since then,
- 36:19Speaker 2: we're not going to be governed by anything that replicates
- 36:22Speaker 2: a Christian idea of God. Well, okay.
- 36:25Speaker 3: Until you eat it.
- 36:26Speaker 2: That was the seed you sowed. This is the harvest
- 36:29Speaker 2: that you've received.
- 36:30Speaker 3: That is correct. And that is why, like, Mamdani is
- 36:35Speaker 3: just a modicum of what could happen to this country.
- 36:38Speaker 2: Yep.
- 36:39Speaker 3: If we don't take conservative hold and we don't. And
- 36:43Speaker 3: one thing I will say about our president, because I
- 36:45Speaker 3: do love him. I don't agree with his mouth all
- 36:47Speaker 3: the time, although I think he's hysterical. He will never waver.
- 36:52Speaker 3: And that, to me, is an incredible example of somebody
- 36:55Speaker 3: that's really standing for this country. He does not waver.
- 36:59Speaker 3: He doesn't care who gets in his face. He doesn't
- 37:01Speaker 3: care what you have to say about him. P.S. So
- 37:03Speaker 3: now you have the press. Prohibitive press. I call it
- 37:07Speaker 3: the prohibitive press and banned. And but he will never
- 37:12Speaker 3: waver for this country. And that's what everyone needs to understand.
- 37:16Speaker 2: All right. On that note, we've got to call it
- 37:17Speaker 2: to an end. But it's been quite an hour. Linda Perillo,
- 37:20Speaker 2: thank you. Gavin McCullough, see you tomorrow night right back
- 37:23Speaker 2: here on Radio Night Live.
