Vox Liturgica: The propers of the day according to the Roman Missal before 1955. The feast of Saint Henry the Pious, Emperor and Confessor, July 15 in the year of our lord 2026.

Henry the second, surnamed the pious, became king of Bavaria in 09/1995, king of Germany in 1002, and head of the Holy Roman Empire from 1014 to 1024. He promised on oath to Benedict the eighth who had crowned him to be faithful in all things to him and his successors. He did his best to spread religion, restoring destroyed churches and founding monasteries, which he liberally endowed.
• 1:05
Detained at Monte Cassino by severe illness, he was miraculously cured through the intercession of St. Benedict. In order to be ready for the coming of the Divine Master, he returned from Italy through France, was admitted into the community of Cluny, and asked to be received into the Benedictine Abbey of Saint Vaughan at Verdun. The Abbot welcomed him, but immediately commanded him in the name of religious obedience to re ascend the imperial throne. He so loved the law of God that he preserved absolute virginity in marriage.
• 1:53
Indeed, by agreement with his holy spouse Kunigand, he determined to make Jesus Christ their heir. And with this view, he founded the bishopric of Bamberg to which he left all his possessions. He was buried in its church in the year of our Lord 1,024. In the name of the father, and of the son, and of the holy ghost. Amen.
• 2:31
The introit. Right reason is on the good man's lips. Well weighted are all his counsels. The law of God rules in his heart. Allay thy impatience with the wicked.
• 2:48
Envy not the lot of evildoers. Glory be to the father and to the son and to the holy ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen. Right reason is on the good man's lips. Well weighted are all his counsels.
• 3:13
The law of God rules in his heart. The Collect. Let us pray. O God, who on this day didst remove blessed Henry, thy confessor, from the crown of an earthly empire to an everlasting kingdom. We humbly beseech thee that as protected by the abundance of thy grace, thou didst enable him to overcome the temptations of the world.
• 3:49
So thou make us in imitation of him to avoid the of this world and to come with pure minds unto thee. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the wisdom of Sirach. Blessed is the man who lives unreproved, who has no greed for gold and puts no trust in his store of riches.
• 4:34
Show us such a man, and we will be loud in his praise. Here is a life to wonder at. A man so tested and found perfect wins eternal honor. He kept clear of sin when sinful ways were easy. Did no wrong when wrong lay in his power.
• 5:00
His treasure is safely preserved in the Lord's keeping, and wherever faithful men are met, his almsteeds will be remembered. The gradual. The just man shall flourish like the palm tree. In the house of the Lord, he shall grow to greatness like the cedars of Lebanon to proclaim thy mercy in the morning and thy truth in the night. Alleluia, alleluia.
• 5:34
Blessed is he who endures under trials. When he has proved his worth, he will win the crown of life. Hallelujah. A continuation of the holy gospel according to Luke. At that time, Jesus said to his disciples, your loins must be girt and your lamps burning, and you yourselves like men awaiting their master's return from a wedding feast so that they may open to him at once when he comes and knocks at the door.
• 6:15
Blessed are those servants whom their master will find watching when he comes. I promise you he will gird himself and make them sit down to meet and minister to them. Whether he comes in the second quarter of the night or in the third, blessed are those servants if he finds them alert. Be sure of this. If the master of the house had known at what time the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and not allowed his house to be broken open.
• 6:54
You too then must stand ready. The son of man will come at an hour when you are not expecting him. The offertory. My truth and my mercy shall be with him, and in my name shall his horn be exalted. The secret.
• 7:23
In memory of thy saints, O Lord, we offer thee the sacrifice of praise by which we trust to be freed from both present and future evils through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. The common preface. Just it is indeed and fitting, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, o holy Lord, father almighty, everlasting God, through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, the powers stand in awe. The heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify.
• 8:31
We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee while we say with lowly praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts, the heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
• 9:07
The communion. Blessed is that servant whom, when his Lord shall come, he shall find watching. Amen, I say to you. He shall place him over all his goods. The post communion.
• 9:26
Let us pray. Refreshed with food and drink from on high, we humbly beg thee, our God, that we may be guarded by the prayers of him in memory of whom we have received this sacrament through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. In the name of the Father, and of the son and of the holy ghost. Amen.
