- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Cantonese with Fexingo. Ready for another tiny lesson? Luna: Always, Lucas. What are we tackling today? Lucas: I was thinking about the body. Last time we did clinic phrases, but we never actually named body parts. Luna: Oh good point! I know a few from context, but not the actual words. Lucas: So today we'll start with the head and face. Basic but very useful. Luna: Head and face — okay, I'm ready. Lucas: First word: 頭. It means head. Luna: 頭. Head. Lucas: Yes. 頭. Can you try it again? Luna: 頭. Lucas: Perfect. Now, eye. 眼. Luna: 眼. Eyes. Lucas: Right — it works for one eye or both eyes. 眼. Luna: 眼. Lucas: Next: nose. 鼻. Luna: 鼻. That one sounds a bit different. Lucas: Yeah, it's a sharp tone. 鼻. Luna: 鼻. Lucas: Great. Mouth: 嘴. Luna: 嘴. Like 'chew' but with a rising tone? Lucas: Exactly. 嘴. Luna: 嘴. Lucas: Ear: 耳. Luna: 耳. That's short. Lucas: Yes. 耳. And finally, face: 面. Luna: 面. Like 'min' with an m? Lucas: Close — 面. Good. Luna: Okay, let me list them: 頭, 眼, 鼻, 嘴, 耳, 面. Lucas: You got it! Now let's try a little sentence. Say: my head hurts. Luna: 我頭痛. I remember that from the clinic episode. Lucas: Yes! So 頭 is right there. And 眼? My eye hurts? Luna: 我眼痛? Lucas: Perfect. You can use these words with 痛 for any body part. Luna: That's super useful. What about 鼻痛? Lucas: Nose pain, yes. Or 嘴痛 for mouth pain. Luna: Right. And 耳痛 for earache. Lucas: Exactly. Now let's do a quick check: point to your nose and say it. Luna: 鼻. Lucas: Eyes? Luna: 眼. Lucas: Mouth? Luna: 嘴. Lucas: You're nailing these. Let me try one more: face. Luna: 面. Lucas: Awesome. You know, it's funny — we've been doing this show for a while now, and it's amazing how many little things stick. Luna: Yeah, I use some phrases in my daily life now. Like when I bump into things I mutter 對唔住 to myself. Lucas: That's adorable. And that's why we keep doing this — because it helps people actually use Cantonese. Luna: Totally. And if listeners find it helpful, they can support the show at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Lucas: Yeah, it keeps the show ad-free and lets us keep making these tiny lessons. Luna: Anyway, back to body parts. Can we practice a sentence with 面? Lucas: Sure. How about: wash your face. Luna: 洗面? Lucas: Right! 洗面. Or 洗頭 — wash hair. Luna: So 洗 is 'wash'? I remember 洗手 from before. Lucas: Yes, 洗 means wash. So 洗手 is wash hands. 洗面 is wash face. Luna: That's a nice pattern. So I could say 我要洗頭. Lucas: Exactly! I need to wash my hair. Good. Luna: Okay, let me run through all six words one more time: 頭, 眼, 鼻, 嘴, 耳, 面. Lucas: Flawless. And remember, these are the building blocks. Next time we can add more body parts. Luna: Looking forward to it. Thanks Lucas! Lucas: You're welcome. And thanks to all our listeners. Practice these words and we'll see you next time.
