- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I, Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Welcome back to Almost Famous. It's Ben here. And I've
- 0:08Speaker 2: been teasing you guys for a while now about a
- 0:10Speaker 2: new TV show I'm hosting called I Do on Journey TV.
- 0:15Speaker 2: This is where couples get to have the most beautiful
- 0:18Speaker 2: destination weddings. We're a few episodes into filming at this point.
- 0:22Speaker 2: And I will tell you, it has been such a
- 0:24Speaker 2: fun experience for me. On the outside, getting to be
- 0:27Speaker 2: a part of these couples' special days. So today, as
- 0:30Speaker 2: we tease the airing of this show, I'm going to
- 0:34Speaker 2: chat with a few of the couples who have already
- 0:36Speaker 2: been a part of the journey to I Do. I
- 0:40Speaker 2: get to start out with my friends, Savannah and Jace.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Welcome to the show.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Hi.
- 0:47Speaker 2: How are you two?
- 0:48Speaker 4: We're good.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Yeah, we're good.
- 0:50Speaker 2: How's married life?
- 0:53Speaker 4: We love it.
- 0:54Speaker 3: I love it.
- 0:54Speaker 5: I've been joking with everybody and saying as advertised, but no,
- 0:58Speaker 5: but it actually has been wonderful.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Jace, there is a scene, I'm not going to give
- 1:03Speaker 2: it all away, but there is a scene in this
- 1:04Speaker 2: show where you make the comment, if you don't marry Savannah,
- 1:07Speaker 2: you'll never get married. Do you feel that more now
- 1:11Speaker 2: than ever?
- 1:12Speaker 6: Yeah, for sure.
- 1:13Speaker 5: I actually had a customer of mine that I was
- 1:15Speaker 5: talking with earlier and that got brought up in our
- 1:18Speaker 5: discussion this morning. So it was kind of like, I
- 1:21Speaker 5: was like, yeah, well, me and my wife were talking
- 1:22Speaker 5: about getting married. I told her, I said, it's either
- 1:24Speaker 5: you or nobody.
- 1:24Speaker 6: And if it don't work, I ain't doing it again.
- 1:29Speaker 2: I believe it too.
- 1:30Speaker 6: No, it's even more tenfold. Yeah, I'm very happy where
- 1:36Speaker 6: I'm at.
- 1:38Speaker 2: I bet. Well, it seems like it from the show.
- 1:40Speaker 2: You know, I want to kick this off a little bit.
- 1:43Speaker 2: I said yes to hosting, I do. because it feels
- 1:50Speaker 2: like such a special show to be a part of.
- 1:52Speaker 2: I do get to be a part of your special days.
- 1:55Speaker 2: We get to document these days in the most incredible way,
- 1:58Speaker 2: from the resorts, the beauty of the resorts, to then
- 2:01Speaker 2: obviously your wishes, needs, wants for the wedding day, leading
- 2:05Speaker 2: up to the obvious ceremony. But we'll get to see
- 2:10Speaker 2: it a little bit in this episode, but I'd love
- 2:12Speaker 2: for anybody listening, as they have not got to watch
- 2:15Speaker 2: you two say I do yet, how did the two
- 2:18Speaker 2: of you meet?
- 2:20Speaker 3: Um, we grew up in the same hometown and we
- 2:22Speaker 3: went to the same church and we just met through there.
- 2:26Speaker 3: I mean, we had known each other for years before
- 2:28Speaker 3: we actually met quote unquote, but, um, we just sat
- 2:35Speaker 3: down next to each other one day at church and
- 2:37Speaker 3: we hit it off and it was kind of the
- 2:39Speaker 3: history of that.
- 2:40Speaker 5: So, yeah, it's kind of just a crossing paths type thing.
- 2:43Speaker 5: We ran around the same circles, but never conversated even, um,
- 2:48Speaker 5: Until we just sat next to each other one day
- 2:50Speaker 5: and probably a meaningless question kind of turned into more conversation.
- 2:56Speaker 5: And here we are about, what, eight years later?
- 2:59Speaker 6: Something like that.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Eight years later, a few months into Married Life. You know,
- 3:08Speaker 2: this show is interesting for a lot of reasons. I
- 3:11Speaker 2: have seen the episodes. They are incredible and they are
- 3:14Speaker 2: beautiful and they're well captured and the stories are amazing throughout.
- 3:18Speaker 2: And you really do get a glimpse of the excitement
- 3:24Speaker 2: going into your wedding day. Also the nerves. But this
- 3:28Speaker 2: was a new show. It hasn't been on TV yet.
- 3:30Speaker 2: We're launching it here. Right here on the Almost Famous
- 3:33Speaker 2: Podcast is the first time really I've talked about it publicly.
- 3:37Speaker 2: It's a big, I feel like it would be a
- 3:39Speaker 2: big deal for you two to say yes to it.
- 3:41Speaker 2: You don't know what you're getting into. This could have
- 3:43Speaker 2: been a complete failure. So walk us through the process
- 3:48Speaker 2: of saying yes to a show that has never existed
- 3:52Speaker 2: with the promise of being a part of your wedding.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Well, we actually were already booking a destination wedding in Cabo.
- 4:02Speaker 3: So we knew we wanted to get married like destination,
- 4:06Speaker 3: not in the States. So that part was easy for
- 4:09Speaker 3: us to say yes to because we had already made
- 4:11Speaker 3: our mind up to that. We were actually working with
- 4:14Speaker 3: a travel agent and she was like, I had my
- 4:18Speaker 3: heart set on a date of December the 31st. I
- 4:22Speaker 3: wanted to get married on New Year's Eve, but they
- 4:23Speaker 3: don't do weddings on those days. So we.
- 4:26Speaker 6: In destination places.
- 4:28Speaker 3: In destination places. So we actually were sent this opportunity
- 4:33Speaker 3: and she promised us that it was for real.
- 4:36Speaker 4: So.
- 4:38Speaker 3: we applied we made a little short like video that
- 4:42Speaker 3: was kind of silly and just showed our personalities and
- 4:45Speaker 3: they we interviewed and then they called us a couple
- 4:48Speaker 3: weeks later and we're like okay is this something that
- 4:51Speaker 3: you want to do and jace was like oh gosh
- 4:55Speaker 3: i don't know yeah it was kind of hard to
- 4:58Speaker 3: win him over on it at first because it was
- 5:03Speaker 3: so foreign to us like we had no idea if.
- 5:07Speaker 6: They did a good job of sweetening the pot, though, obviously.
- 5:09Speaker 5: I mean, they come to us like we were getting
- 5:11Speaker 5: quotes at the time we applied of like how much
- 5:13Speaker 5: it was going to cost for us to get married
- 5:15Speaker 5: at a destination versus. And then, you know, obviously the
- 5:22Speaker 5: production team, they took care of, you know, pretty much everything.
- 5:26Speaker 5: So we were we were out of pocket, very minimal.
- 5:30Speaker 5: And I said, you know, going into a marriage that
- 5:33Speaker 5: was very attractive of not having debt.
- 5:37Speaker 6: Like wedding related debt.
- 5:39Speaker 5: And, uh, so many of that obviously wasn't the only
- 5:42Speaker 5: reason we had our, like she said, we had already
- 5:44Speaker 5: looked at getting married destination. Um, so at first it
- 5:47Speaker 5: was kind of, uh, the only thing that I would
- 5:49Speaker 5: say that we maybe were reserved about was like, we're
- 5:53Speaker 5: putting a lot of faith into people.
- 5:55Speaker 6: We've never met or we don't know their body of
- 5:57Speaker 6: work or like, you know, like how good is this?
- 6:01Speaker 6: How good can it actually be?
- 6:02Speaker 3: But I think at the end of the day, we
- 6:04Speaker 3: just decided, well, We're going to go get married regardless.
- 6:07Speaker 3: They're going to give us the best product of that
- 6:10Speaker 3: because we had seen the weddings that they do at
- 6:13Speaker 3: the hotel. So we knew that the wedding itself would
- 6:17Speaker 3: be great regardless. And we were like, well, if the
- 6:20Speaker 3: show is good, then that's even better. And but our
- 6:23Speaker 3: wedding is going to be it is what it is.
- 6:25Speaker 2: So, yeah, you kind of fell in the proverbial like
- 6:29Speaker 2: sword for the show, because from here on out, people
- 6:32Speaker 2: are going to be able to see the product. And
- 6:34Speaker 2: then say, yeah, that would definitely be something I would
- 6:36Speaker 2: want to be a part of. We're obviously here to
- 6:39Speaker 2: highlight the two of you and your incredible love story,
- 6:41Speaker 2: but also talk about why, really just talk about your
- 6:46Speaker 2: experience on this show. So now that you went through it,
- 6:50Speaker 2: but you did get married and you said, I do.
- 6:52Speaker 2: There's no big twist there at the end. What would
- 6:57Speaker 2: you tell any couple that's interested in Destination Wedding and
- 7:01Speaker 2: possibly considering being a part of I Do?
- 7:05Speaker 3: I think that the biggest thing that you have to
- 7:08Speaker 3: be OK with is just putting all of the planning
- 7:10Speaker 3: in somebody else's hands.
- 7:12Speaker 6: Like you have to.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Be OK with completely being hands off, which was kind
- 7:16Speaker 3: of what I wanted to do anyway. So that wasn't
- 7:19Speaker 3: a hard thing for me. But like in like I
- 7:23Speaker 3: feel like it was and people will see in the
- 7:25Speaker 3: show is you don't see it come to life at all.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Like it's not there the night before. And then it's like, bam,
- 7:31Speaker 3: you wake up the next morning and it's there. And
- 7:34Speaker 3: so just trusting the process of the whole thing.
- 7:38Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 7:38Speaker 5: And I feel like throughout the whole process too, is
- 7:40Speaker 5: like trust was a big factor because there was a
- 7:43Speaker 5: lot of times where we thought that things weren't going
- 7:45Speaker 5: to turn out the way that we wanted or maybe
- 7:48Speaker 5: demanded them to turn out. And like, we're like, either
- 7:51Speaker 5: y'all are going to figure it out. We got to
- 7:52Speaker 5: figure it out somehow. But, but like at the same time,
- 7:56Speaker 5: you know, in retrospect, there was some kind of like
- 7:58Speaker 5: curtain of production that, All they were trying to do
- 8:01Speaker 5: was surprise us because they wanted good TV. It took
- 8:08Speaker 5: a lot of trust from the time that we said, yes,
- 8:12Speaker 5: we're going to be on the show until the day
- 8:14Speaker 5: she said that we woke up and we're getting married today.
- 8:17Speaker 6: There's a lot of times where we were.
- 8:20Speaker 5: I know Savannah especially was a little overwhelmed with, is
- 8:24Speaker 5: this really going to.
- 8:27Speaker 6: Turn out how.
- 8:29Speaker 6: We wanted it to.
- 8:30Speaker 5: And obviously, I mean, when people see the show at
- 8:34Speaker 5: the end, it did turn out how we wanted it to.
- 8:36Speaker 2: But would you recommend somebody going on it?
- 8:40Speaker 6: Yeah, absolutely.
- 8:41Speaker 3: It was like one of the most fun experiences that
- 8:44Speaker 3: we've I've ever had.
- 8:46Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 8:47Speaker 6: Yeah, I know. I mean, in retrospect, yes, 100 percent.
- 8:50Speaker 5: But like I would just I would just caution that
- 8:52Speaker 5: if you have anxiety, you probably shouldn't do it. because
- 8:57Speaker 5: like I said there were some times where we were
- 8:59Speaker 5: really I mean like I kept telling Savannah and I
- 9:03Speaker 5: think there's clips of it in the show I just
- 9:05Speaker 5: said like just trust that it's going to get done
- 9:09Speaker 5: stop worrying control what you can control either way we're
- 9:11Speaker 5: getting married and she was all worked up and at
- 9:14Speaker 5: the end it was like you're worked up for nothing
- 9:16Speaker 5: it turned out to be everything you wanted it to
- 9:18Speaker 5: be but yeah I would recommend it to somebody.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Else yeah Jason I mean getting to be around you
- 9:23Speaker 2: for a few days you do have like the beer taste.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Like you're, you just want to hang out and have
- 9:29Speaker 2: a beer where Savannah has more like the champagne kind
- 9:32Speaker 2: of expectations of, Hey, there's a lot of things here.
- 9:35Speaker 2: I want this to look like, be like, and I
- 9:38Speaker 2: think with a show like this, that would add stress.
- 9:41Speaker 2: But I would imagine Savannah, the stress fell on you
- 9:45Speaker 2: more than Jace because Jace and his buddies just wanted
- 9:48Speaker 2: to have a good time. Like they didn't want much
- 9:50Speaker 2: more than hang out by the pool, float around for
- 9:53Speaker 2: a bit and get married to his dream girl.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Yes.
- 9:56Speaker 6: Oh yeah, for sure.
- 9:58Speaker 2: When people watch this, obviously one of the big reasons
- 10:02Speaker 2: this can even exist is that people will tune in
- 10:04Speaker 2: to learn about what a destination wedding is like, the
- 10:08Speaker 2: expectations of a destination wedding. Why would you tell people
- 10:12Speaker 2: to watch the show? You were a part of the film.
- 10:14Speaker 2: You have an idea of what this is going to
- 10:15Speaker 2: look like. what this was like, why would a viewer say,
- 10:19Speaker 2: I'm going to spend, you know, 30 minutes to an
- 10:22Speaker 2: hour of my day tuning into this specific show?
- 10:26Speaker 3: Well, no, I think just to see it unfold, I guess,
- 10:31Speaker 3: like we talk about it and we have the experience,
- 10:35Speaker 3: like all of our friends and family have the experience.
- 10:38Speaker 3: And we've just kind of told everybody like, oh, it
- 10:40Speaker 3: was an awesome experience. We got to do X, Y,
- 10:45Speaker 3: and Z during the show and during the week while
- 10:47Speaker 3: we were there, but the wedding was awesome and all
- 10:49Speaker 3: the things.
- 10:50Speaker 7: And we had a very small wedding.
- 10:51Speaker 6: Like there were not a lot of people there.
- 10:53Speaker 3: So I think just telling, like giving them something like
- 11:00Speaker 3: that they can see of how much fun and how much,
- 11:04Speaker 3: like how genuine our experience was there.
- 11:06Speaker 5: No, I think like, I mean, she says our wedding
- 11:11Speaker 5: was small, but in terms of destination weddings, it was
- 11:13Speaker 5: actually kind of large in my opinion. So, I mean,
- 11:16Speaker 5: like there's kind of a stigma around destination weddings that
- 11:19Speaker 5: it's just like you and your wife and maybe like
- 11:21Speaker 5: one or two other people. Um, but also it's like, uh,
- 11:26Speaker 5: just seeing like, there was some, like I was in
- 11:30Speaker 5: the wedding obviously.
- 11:31Speaker 6: And so it was Savannah and there's so much stuff.
- 11:33Speaker 5: That happened on the day of the wedding that we
- 11:35Speaker 5: were like, we didn't really even have any idea was
- 11:37Speaker 5: going to be a thing until the day of the wedding.
- 11:39Speaker 6: And so I feel like a lot of people don't.
- 11:40Speaker 5: Know what goes into destination weddings. And like, there's a
- 11:44Speaker 5: lot of surprises that you would have been like, man,
- 11:46Speaker 5: I would have never thought about that. And we said
- 11:48Speaker 5: the same thing, like after the wedding was over, we're
- 11:51Speaker 5: in honeymoon phase, like we're recapping everything that just happened.
- 11:55Speaker 5: And we both like could come up with things that
- 11:58Speaker 5: were like, I didn't know that they were going to
- 12:00Speaker 5: do that. Or I didn't know that that was a
- 12:02Speaker 5: thing that people thought of whenever you do a destination
- 12:04Speaker 5: wedding or whatever, you know, like it felt like we
- 12:07Speaker 5: were at a stateside wedding. just like 1500 miles from home.
- 12:12Speaker 5: It was really, really crazy because I was expecting it
- 12:15Speaker 5: to miss aspects that normally you would have, but that
- 12:18Speaker 5: wasn't the case.
- 12:19Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 12:20Speaker 2: It's one of the best weddings I'd ever seen done
- 12:23Speaker 2: from the ceremony to the after party to even the
- 12:26Speaker 2: rehearsal dinner. You know, for me, I think people are
- 12:29Speaker 2: going to want to watch too. My wife has watched
- 12:31Speaker 2: both episodes with me and she obviously wasn't around for
- 12:35Speaker 2: the filming. And she's like, I want to watch this
- 12:37Speaker 2: show one, for, as you said, Savannah, like the details,
- 12:42Speaker 2: seeing all that goes into what a resort has to do,
- 12:46Speaker 2: what a bride and groom wants in a wedding, how
- 12:50Speaker 2: the resort speeds things up and functions leading up to
- 12:55Speaker 2: the big day. But then also I think it's really
- 12:57Speaker 2: cool because you get to see these resorts. So if
- 13:00Speaker 2: anybody's ever interested in getting married and At the Paradisus
- 13:03Speaker 2: Palma Real in the Dominican Republic, they can see that.
- 13:07Speaker 2: But you get to see your story. And I think
- 13:09Speaker 2: that's the big reason here is you get to see
- 13:12Speaker 2: a love story coming to a climax during the ceremony
- 13:16Speaker 2: and seeing the groom's face when the bride walks down
- 13:21Speaker 2: the aisle. I do think the capturing of all these
- 13:26Speaker 2: little details make it something that most people say, I
- 13:30Speaker 2: want to watch. If for no other reason, because it's
- 13:34Speaker 2: happy television, it's something that brings joy to our household
- 13:38Speaker 2: because we get to see a love story take place.
- 13:43Speaker 6: Yeah, for sure. I think like, if you look at
- 13:45Speaker 6: traditional TV, you just hit it on the head.
- 13:49Speaker 5: Like a lot of it's very negative or drama oriented
- 13:53Speaker 5: and you don't get too many, too much like feel
- 13:55Speaker 5: good TV stuff anymore. I would definitely say that this
- 13:59Speaker 5: is going to fall in the, I mean, cause I
- 14:00Speaker 5: don't think there was a bad time had, and I
- 14:02Speaker 5: think you won't see anything with people smiling the whole
- 14:04Speaker 5: time in terms of, I can only speak on our experience,
- 14:07Speaker 5: but yeah.
- 14:09Speaker 2: I don't want to give up too much of the show. Uh,
- 14:13Speaker 2: but obviously I do. I'm excited about this show. I
- 14:15Speaker 2: think it's a big deal. I think it's beautiful television.
- 14:18Speaker 2: I do think it's happy television. I think there's a
- 14:20Speaker 2: lot of Cool, intricate details that will be shown that
- 14:23Speaker 2: you never really get to see before. It's part of
- 14:25Speaker 2: my job while I'm there to make sure it's capturing
- 14:29Speaker 2: what the resort is doing in the kitchen behind the
- 14:31Speaker 2: scenes that's then being delivered to you and your guests
- 14:35Speaker 2: on a table and how all that works out and
- 14:37Speaker 2: the timing of it all and the stress that you
- 14:39Speaker 2: guys don't ever see that's happening with the resort planning staff.
- 14:44Speaker 2: That resort was so good to you guys. I do
- 14:46Speaker 2: think that. I think there's a lot of surprises that
- 14:48Speaker 2: will be shown in this show that you two know
- 14:50Speaker 2: about that the resort really made happen to make sure
- 14:55Speaker 2: that this was the perfect moment for you. As we
- 14:58Speaker 2: close up here, the one thing we don't get to
- 15:00Speaker 2: see on this show is the after party, or let
- 15:03Speaker 2: me call it the honeymoon. How was your honeymoon? I'm
- 15:07Speaker 2: guessing you stayed at the resort and the guests started
- 15:10Speaker 2: to leave. Tell us about those few days.
- 15:14Speaker 7: It was kind of funny.
- 15:15Speaker 3: The first day, like when everybody left, we were like,
- 15:19Speaker 3: kind of sad, like not in a bad way, but
- 15:22Speaker 3: we were like, it's literally over. You anticipate this day
- 15:26Speaker 3: for so long. And I don't think people talk about
- 15:29Speaker 3: it enough. It's like all of your friends and family
- 15:32Speaker 3: are leaving. And you're like, now it's just the two
- 15:36Speaker 3: of us, which is fine. And We got, we had fun,
- 15:40Speaker 3: but it was just kind of a weird feeling after
- 15:43Speaker 3: when it was like, we've anticipated this day for so
- 15:46Speaker 3: long and now it's just over and it felt like
- 15:48Speaker 3: it was like gone like that. But we had a
- 15:51Speaker 3: blast after we were, we hung out by the pool.
- 15:55Speaker 3: I feel like we didn't get to do that much
- 15:56Speaker 3: before the wedding. So we hung out by the pool.
- 16:00Speaker 3: We just, we had a good time. We got massages.
- 16:04Speaker 5: We just enjoyed being around each other and kind of like,
- 16:08Speaker 5: almost debriefed from the wedding planning stage of our life.
- 16:12Speaker 5: And like, now we're moving into, okay, we're headed home
- 16:14Speaker 5: and back to reality. Now as a married couple, Savannah
- 16:19Speaker 5: was calling it the post wedding blues. She said that
- 16:21Speaker 5: we woke up the next morning and all of our
- 16:23Speaker 5: friends were saying bye and headed back home. And it's like,
- 16:26Speaker 5: she said, it's like, we've spent the better part of
- 16:29Speaker 5: six months.
- 16:29Speaker 6: Like every, we were, we devoted two to three hours
- 16:32Speaker 6: a day worth of, you know, planning, et cetera, to
- 16:35Speaker 6: this moment. And it's gone.
- 16:38Speaker 5: But once we got over that, we were having a
- 16:39Speaker 5: great time. But it was very, at first, bittersweet, but
- 16:46Speaker 5: then it was all sweet.
- 16:48Speaker 2: I got to give a little credit to the production
- 16:51Speaker 2: company and the resort because, yes, there's a lot that
- 16:54Speaker 2: goes into making a television show. But I think what
- 16:57Speaker 2: you're saying is even in the midst of the responsibilities
- 17:00Speaker 2: of filming different activities and conversations and different parts of
- 17:05Speaker 2: the planning process, you still had a great time leading
- 17:10Speaker 2: up to the big day. And I think that is
- 17:12Speaker 2: a credit to the resort one and also the production
- 17:16Speaker 2: company who tried to do what they could to stay
- 17:19Speaker 2: out of your way, but also just let you guys
- 17:21Speaker 2: do your thing with your friends and capture it as
- 17:23Speaker 2: it went. I think that is a really fine balance
- 17:27Speaker 2: where it could have become too much and frustrating and,
- 17:30Speaker 2: You're like, hey, I haven't seen my family since I
- 17:33Speaker 2: got here because I've been in a hotel room doing interviews.
- 17:37Speaker 2: So I do think there is a huge credit that
- 17:41Speaker 2: should be given to the people that made this show.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Because I think especially with the two of you and
- 17:46Speaker 2: your friends, you guys had a great time. You– You
- 17:50Speaker 2: closed down that resort most evenings in the best of ways.
- 17:55Speaker 4: Yeah, we did.
- 17:56Speaker 3: We had a great time and they did really a
- 17:59Speaker 3: great job. And we also talked about how we didn't
- 18:01Speaker 3: notice anybody else but our people that were around, like
- 18:05Speaker 3: the people that traveled with us. It felt like almost
- 18:08Speaker 3: we were there on our own, like.
- 18:10Speaker 7: Nobody else was there.
- 18:12Speaker 3: So the resort production, everybody did a great job with
- 18:16Speaker 3: that too, because it felt like It was just us
- 18:20Speaker 3: with our people. Like we were the only people there
- 18:22Speaker 3: and nobody else was there. Nobody else was ruining what
- 18:26Speaker 3: we were doing.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Well, next up, I get to talk to Mackenzie and Josh,
- 18:31Speaker 2: who got married in Cancun right before you all. Rough
- 18:36Speaker 2: job I have. I went from Cancun to the Dominican
- 18:38Speaker 2: to two separate weddings. It was pretty great. Be sure
- 18:41Speaker 2: to check out I Do on Journey TV. It's out now.
- 18:45Speaker 2: I get to be the host of this. I get
- 18:47Speaker 2: to hang out with some incredible couples like Savannah and
- 18:50Speaker 2: Jace here who agreed to get married on this incredible
- 18:55Speaker 2: TV show that I think will be an enjoyable experience
- 18:59Speaker 2: for all who tune in. Again, it's out now. It's
- 19:03Speaker 2: on Journey TV. It's called I Do. Savannah and Jace,
- 19:06Speaker 2: I wish you nothing but joy and happiness in your
- 19:09Speaker 2: married life. Thank you for doing the show. Thanks for
- 19:12Speaker 2: participating in it with me. We were all new to
- 19:15Speaker 2: it and you guys made it easier. So I appreciate
- 19:18Speaker 2: you both and have a great, great rest of your day.
- 19:22Speaker 6: You too.
- 19:22Speaker 8: Thank you.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 19:24Speaker 8: Hey, stranger.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Hey, it's McKenzie and Josh. got married on episode one
- 19:42Speaker 2: of i do in cancun how are you all oh good.
- 19:46Speaker 7: He's getting used to captivity.
- 19:47Speaker 4: I've been instructed to agree.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Are you guys enjoying married life? I just caught up
- 19:54Speaker 2: with you on social media the other day. I saw
- 19:57Speaker 2: that you've been cooking like breakfast or a casserole. So
- 20:03Speaker 2: you're keeping Josh fed.
- 20:05Speaker 4: Yes. It's a full-time job for her, but yes.
- 20:09Speaker 7: It is a full-time job.
- 20:10Speaker 9: My mom bought us some casserole dishes, so I figured
- 20:14Speaker 9: why not?
- 20:14Speaker 7: We'll give it a shot.
- 20:15Speaker 9: So last night we had hamburger casserole, and I think
- 20:19Speaker 9: it tastes like In-N-Out in a casserole form.
- 20:22Speaker 7: Josh agrees.
- 20:23Speaker 4: Yes.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Married life so far, how is it going, though? Are
- 20:27Speaker 2: you guys enjoying it?
- 20:28Speaker 7: Yeah, it's going great.
- 20:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:31Speaker 10: It's been really hectic, just lots of stuff going on,
- 20:34Speaker 10: but the time we do get to spend together has
- 20:36Speaker 10: been just– unbelievable.
- 20:39Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 20:40Speaker 9: The 20 minutes before bed is the time we spend
- 20:43Speaker 9: together right now.
- 20:44Speaker 2: So you're learning, like you guys entered into marriage and
- 20:47Speaker 2: then life picked up speed and now you're figuring out
- 20:50Speaker 2: how to not be two ships crossing in the night
- 20:52Speaker 2: and actually slow down a bit. It's not easy to
- 20:56Speaker 2: figure out.
- 20:58Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:59Speaker 4: It's been a, it's been a journey for sure, but
- 21:01Speaker 4: we're figuring out how to navigate it. Um, I mean, we're, we've, Our.
- 21:05Speaker 10: Whole relationship was long distance with short little bursts of
- 21:10Speaker 10: we got to cram in as much as we can.
- 21:12Speaker 10: So we've figured out how to be effective with the
- 21:14Speaker 10: time that we do get to spend together.
- 21:16Speaker 7: Yeah, not much has changed.
- 21:21Speaker 2: You know, this whole I do show is such a
- 21:26Speaker 2: wild thing to agree to. I just got done talking
- 21:29Speaker 2: to Savannah and Jace. You're the only two couples that
- 21:32Speaker 2: we've had and we're picking up steam and starting again
- 21:34Speaker 2: here very quickly. But you both said yes to it.
- 21:40Speaker 2: And I am curious how you agreed to say yes,
- 21:44Speaker 2: knowing that you were going to be the very first episode,
- 21:46Speaker 2: very first time this show was ever done, that you
- 21:50Speaker 2: would give up your wedding day so that the world
- 21:54Speaker 2: could possibly watch it on television. It has to feel
- 21:57Speaker 2: like a big deal. At least it does to me.
- 22:00Speaker 2: What went into the decision to say yes?
- 22:03Speaker 7: I think we both were like, eh, why not?
- 22:07Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 22:08Speaker 7: If it sucks, it sucks. And we'll have something to
- 22:10Speaker 7: talk about.
- 22:10Speaker 9: And if it's awesome, then we'll have something to talk about.
- 22:13Speaker 9: At the end of the day, there's no negative thing
- 22:17Speaker 9: that could really come from it.
- 22:19Speaker 10: I think one way or the other, we thought it'll
- 22:21Speaker 10: be memorable, whether good or bad. And we'll get to
- 22:25Speaker 10: spend it with family and friends. And that's kind of
- 22:27Speaker 10: what was important to us.
- 22:28Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 22:29Speaker 2: So- It's done. I've seen it. Was it worth it?
- 22:35Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 22:36Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 22:36Speaker 7: It was definitely worth it.
- 22:38Speaker 2: That's going to be the big thing as we continue on.
- 22:41Speaker 2: And until the show is out there, I think it
- 22:44Speaker 2: is a big risk for somebody to say yes to it.
- 22:46Speaker 2: They don't know what it's going to be like. They
- 22:48Speaker 2: don't know if it's going to be chaos, if it's
- 22:52Speaker 2: going to be distracting. So I would love for the
- 22:55Speaker 2: two of you to tell anybody that's interested that what
- 22:58Speaker 2: the experience was like filming this show.
- 23:02Speaker 7: Well, we actually had a phone call with your next couple.
- 23:06Speaker 9: They had some questions for us too and asking if
- 23:10Speaker 9: it was worth it. And we told them a hundred percent.
- 23:12Speaker 9: I mean, why, why wouldn't.
- 23:13Speaker 7: You take the opportunity?
- 23:15Speaker 9: It is a door that's opening that is very odd
- 23:20Speaker 9: and is probably not going to ever happen again. So,
- 23:25Speaker 9: and yeah, to just, do it and enjoy the time
- 23:30Speaker 9: that you get with family at no cost to you.
- 23:33Speaker 7: So really there's no risk in, in at all. So.
- 23:37Speaker 10: Yeah. And one thing that was pretty cool and big
- 23:40Speaker 10: for us was that it's, it's a destination wedding.
- 23:44Speaker 4: So you get more than just a four.
- 23:46Speaker 10: Hour block to try and like say hello and goodbye
- 23:49Speaker 10: to people in 30 seconds.
- 23:52Speaker 4: And we were able to just.
- 23:53Speaker 10: Actually like hang out by the pool and have some
- 23:55Speaker 10: dinner and, you know, kind of do things that are
- 23:57Speaker 10: more than just like, hello, how's it going?
- 24:00Speaker 3: Goodbye.
- 24:00Speaker 10: So it was really nice to be able to elongate
- 24:04Speaker 10: that whole wedding journey over a few days rather.
- 24:07Speaker 4: Than cram it into a few hours.
- 24:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:10Speaker 2: One of the things we've talked about kind of behind
- 24:12Speaker 2: the scenes is, hey, if this show is going to
- 24:14Speaker 2: be successful, I do think they're fantastic to watch. I
- 24:19Speaker 2: was just talking about my wife got to watch them
- 24:21Speaker 2: with me and she was like, this is a good show. Like,
- 24:24Speaker 2: the details of the wedding process, the desires of the
- 24:27Speaker 2: bride and groom, the family dynamics coming together. But then
- 24:32Speaker 2: also with the conclusion, which is, you know, two people
- 24:36Speaker 2: getting married and the happiness that comes from obviously that
- 24:40Speaker 2: commitment and the love that they found. This is a
- 24:43Speaker 2: great show, but behind the scenes we were talking, it's
- 24:46Speaker 2: only going to be successful if the couples have a
- 24:48Speaker 2: good experience for one. and they can leave it saying, hey,
- 24:54Speaker 2: I enjoyed this. You're not watching some trauma dump on television.
- 24:59Speaker 2: This was actually really good for us. Can you speak
- 25:03Speaker 2: to kind of what it felt like? I guess the
- 25:07Speaker 2: better question is, did it feel like your wedding? Did
- 25:09Speaker 2: it actually feel like the thing you had dreamed of?
- 25:12Speaker 2: Or did it feel like you were making a TV
- 25:14Speaker 2: show the whole time?
- 25:15Speaker 10: I think I went into it with very open expectations.
- 25:20Speaker 10: just because it is a very unconventional wedding. But that
- 25:24Speaker 10: being said, it was, it was, in my opinion, it
- 25:28Speaker 10: was a great experience. I've had a few people that
- 25:30Speaker 10: have asked, you know, would you do it again? And
- 25:32Speaker 10: each time the answer has been yes. Just kind of
- 25:35Speaker 10: going back to what we said before of, you know,
- 25:38Speaker 10: the experiences we got to have with family, friends, and,
- 25:42Speaker 10: and I think a big thing for us too, was
- 25:45Speaker 10: the team that was working on it kind of took
- 25:47Speaker 10: a lot of weight off our shoulders as far as, um,
- 25:50Speaker 10: you know, the hotel staff and whatever we.
- 25:53Speaker 4: Needed, they were on it. And so that was, I
- 25:56Speaker 4: think pretty huge to relieve some of that stress.
- 26:00Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 26:00Speaker 9: I think we went into it, like you said, with
- 26:03Speaker 9: little to no expectations, we didn't have anyone that we
- 26:06Speaker 9: could lean on or talk to about what the experience
- 26:09Speaker 9: is going to be like.
- 26:10Speaker 7: So I know after day one, we were pretty, Like, oh.
- 26:14Speaker 9: No, this is a lot of filming and this is.
- 26:19Speaker 7: Energetically draining.
- 26:20Speaker 9: But then we still woke up each morning really excited
- 26:23Speaker 9: for the next film session. And we're the guinea pigs, right?
- 26:28Speaker 9: So the kinks got worked out as we were going
- 26:30Speaker 9: through it. And it did feel like our wedding. I mean,
- 26:34Speaker 9: granted it was unconventional, but it still felt like we
- 26:37Speaker 9: were getting married.
- 26:38Speaker 7: And preparing for it.
- 26:39Speaker 9: And I remember that five minutes, waiting, peeking my head
- 26:43Speaker 9: around the corner when everyone was walking down the aisle
- 26:47Speaker 9: and I'm standing in the back waiting there. Like that,
- 26:50Speaker 9: that felt real.
- 26:52Speaker 7: Cause it was.
- 26:52Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 26:52Speaker 2: It's very real.
- 26:54Speaker 10: I think we both talked about it too. Like, I don't,
- 26:57Speaker 10: I think if we broke eye contact, it was to
- 26:59Speaker 10: look at Dustin and then look back at each other.
- 27:01Speaker 10: I don't, I didn't notice cameras or microphones or anything.
- 27:05Speaker 10: And they were very like fly on the wall, like.
- 27:08Speaker 4: They had said.
- 27:09Speaker 10: So that was, that was actually really nice to, to
- 27:11Speaker 10: be able to just be in the moment and not
- 27:13Speaker 10: be worried about what's.
- 27:14Speaker 4: Going on around.
- 27:15Speaker 9: It is kind of wild how after day one, you
- 27:18Speaker 9: forget the cameras are there, even though they're right in
- 27:21Speaker 9: your face.
- 27:23Speaker 2: It happens every time. It gets dangerous because you start
- 27:25Speaker 2: to get too comfortable. You don't know what you're going
- 27:30Speaker 2: to do that could be shown.
- 27:32Speaker 7: When I get sneaky with my mother.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Your mom is a big character in the show, obviously.
- 27:50Speaker 2: And it's so fun to watch your families come together.
- 27:54Speaker 2: One of the big storylines is that your families really
- 27:56Speaker 2: hadn't met in the time that you had been together.
- 27:59Speaker 2: And one of the reasons for that is because of
- 28:02Speaker 2: the way you met is shown on the show. But
- 28:05Speaker 2: I think it's a good reason why somebody would want
- 28:07Speaker 2: to tune into your episode specifically. is you two met,
- 28:10Speaker 2: and then Josh, you got deployed for nine months.
- 28:13Speaker 6: I believe.
- 28:14Speaker 2: So you met, knew you liked each other, and then
- 28:16Speaker 2: you had to leave, which makes a really incredible love
- 28:21Speaker 2: story because you stuck it out together.
- 28:24Speaker 10: Yeah, it was early March, met for two days in
- 28:28Speaker 10: the middle of April, and then I left in May.
- 28:30Speaker 10: So it was a lot of like, what are we
- 28:34Speaker 10: doing right now? This is crazy, but... Let's see what
- 28:37Speaker 10: happens and ride it out.
- 28:38Speaker 7: Probably more so on my part.
- 28:40Speaker 9: That whole nine months, I was like, oh my gosh,
- 28:42Speaker 9: why would I do this?
- 28:44Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 28:44Speaker 2: Well, it's really special for the two of you then
- 28:47Speaker 2: to be able to share that with us on TV.
- 28:49Speaker 2: So you stuck it out. You get married on television.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Nothing about your relationship has been conventional, but why would
- 28:55Speaker 2: you want it to be? You want to keep it
- 28:57Speaker 2: exciting and new and try new things. Speaking of exciting
- 29:02Speaker 2: and new, we don't get to really watch the follow-up.
- 29:06Speaker 2: from these episodes. So we don't know what you did
- 29:09Speaker 2: for your honeymoon, if anything yet. Have you gone on
- 29:12Speaker 2: a honeymoon?
- 29:13Speaker 7: Did we go on a honeymoon?
- 29:15Speaker 4: Not really, no.
- 29:18Speaker 7: We're still living in it. We're in a constant state
- 29:21Speaker 7: of honeymoon.
- 29:22Speaker 2: That's sweet.
- 29:23Speaker 7: We're trying to figure that out. I had the home.
- 29:26Speaker 9: That I designed for Showcase of Homes went on display
- 29:29Speaker 9: last weekend, the last two weekends. So that was a
- 29:33Speaker 9: really big deal. As soon as we got back, it
- 29:36Speaker 9: was go, go, go, get get ready for that, which
- 29:39Speaker 9: has been a huge success for my business. So now
- 29:42Speaker 9: I think I can finally breathe. But there's been a
- 29:46Speaker 9: huge influx of new contracts flowing in. So breathing, not necessary,
- 29:52Speaker 9: I guess, until babies come.
- 29:54Speaker 10: So I think the plan for a honeymoon is like
- 29:58Speaker 10: a one-year anniversary honeymoon combo type of thing.
- 30:02Speaker 2: Yeah, that'd be sweet. So obviously, Kenzie, you're an interior designer. Josh,
- 30:06Speaker 2: you're doing fitness work. But your businesses, you get married,
- 30:13Speaker 2: you come together as a team, and they both sound
- 30:15Speaker 2: like they've taken off in the last few months.
- 30:17Speaker 5: Mm-hmm.
- 30:18Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:19Speaker 9: He's my muscle to help move all the furniture and
- 30:22Speaker 9: decor items around from location to location. Yeah. But your
- 30:27Speaker 9: business is doing good. His app that he's developing is
- 30:30Speaker 9: hopefully going to be released within the next year.
- 30:32Speaker 4: So that's the plan.
- 30:34Speaker 9: He's just been sitting on the computer all day when
- 30:36Speaker 9: he's not training. He is just nerding out, making it happen.
- 30:40Speaker 2: This is a good platform to be able to talk
- 30:43Speaker 2: about the stuff that you're promoting. And so you're both
- 30:45Speaker 2: in the Utah area. Kinsey, your business name is?
- 30:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:50Speaker 9: Got really creative three years ago when I made the name.
- 30:54Speaker 9: It's McKenzie Seagren Interior Design. So hopefully a rebrand will
- 30:58Speaker 9: be happening soon and changing to McKenzie Wiles.
- 31:02Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 31:02Speaker 4: Good point. She's already thrown around new logos and coming
- 31:07Speaker 4: up with stuff.
- 31:08Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 31:08Speaker 2: And Josh, your app, you're hoping comes out next year.
- 31:12Speaker 2: You don't know exactly yet.
- 31:14Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 31:15Speaker 10: I mean, there's, you know, there's... lots of testing and
- 31:18Speaker 10: figuring out bugs and everything. But the plan is that
- 31:21Speaker 10: it will come out sometime next year, hopefully middle to
- 31:24Speaker 10: late next year.
- 31:27Speaker 2: My final question for the two of you, obviously you
- 31:29Speaker 2: haven't seen the episode, so it's a little unfair for
- 31:31Speaker 2: me to even ask this, but you have an idea.
- 31:34Speaker 2: You were part of it. There's no crazy surprises. Let
- 31:37Speaker 2: me tell you that. It's a lot of capturing the
- 31:40Speaker 2: moments that you guys had with your family and together
- 31:42Speaker 2: and the things that you got to do. For anybody
- 31:46Speaker 2: that's sitting out there listening to this, why would they
- 31:49Speaker 2: want to watch I Do in Destination on Journey TV?
- 31:55Speaker 10: I don't watch a whole lot of reality TV, to
- 31:57Speaker 10: be honest, but I don't really know of any other
- 32:00Speaker 10: shows that are about destination weddings and just like essentially
- 32:06Speaker 10: pulling someone off the street and like, hey, let's do
- 32:08Speaker 10: this thing now. And I think the fact that they're
- 32:13Speaker 10: in different locations is pretty cool. It's not just rinse
- 32:17Speaker 10: and repeat of the same place. So you're going to
- 32:19Speaker 10: get a different kind of vibe from each episode.
- 32:22Speaker 7: I think people would.
- 32:24Speaker 9: Want to tune into our episode to see how our
- 32:27Speaker 9: families who have never met come together and.
- 32:32Speaker 7: See what happens.
- 32:33Speaker 2: There's some big, I mean, your mom's a big personality, Kinsey.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Like she is.
- 32:40Speaker 8: She's really thrilled about that.
- 32:42Speaker 7: I'll tell you.
- 32:44Speaker 2: She has some good one-liners. She is, it's obviously very
- 32:50Speaker 2: beautiful to see your relationship together. But then also just
- 32:56Speaker 2: like leading up to meeting your now husband's family and
- 33:02Speaker 2: what that's going to be like and the nerves of that.
- 33:05Speaker 2: I remember those days, goodness gracious. Like My parents aren't
- 33:09Speaker 2: as maybe big of personalities as your mom, but I
- 33:11Speaker 2: was nervous for the in-laws to meet. Like, how is
- 33:14Speaker 2: this going to go? Are they going to see eye
- 33:16Speaker 2: to eye? What's going to be said that maybe throws
- 33:19Speaker 2: somebody off or not said? So it's fun to be
- 33:22Speaker 2: able to watch that too during your episode is that
- 33:25Speaker 2: first interaction between families and how it goes down.
- 33:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:30Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 33:31Speaker 9: I'm excited to see some Bobbo liners in there.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 33:37Speaker 2: There's a moment during your episode that I did tear up.
- 33:41Speaker 2: It's very beautiful. I'll leave that for the viewers to
- 33:44Speaker 2: be able to watch on their own and guess when
- 33:46Speaker 2: it happened. But there are some really incredible moments that
- 33:51Speaker 2: are heartfelt. And I felt privileged even being the host
- 33:56Speaker 2: of the show, have the privilege of watching it back
- 33:59Speaker 2: on television, like having access to those moments. Now, I
- 34:04Speaker 2: guess I lied. That wasn't my final question. One of
- 34:07Speaker 2: the big things is, yes, this is also my show
- 34:10Speaker 2: with iHeart that we're on right now, along with my
- 34:13Speaker 2: wonderful co-host, Ashley, who is not with us currently because
- 34:18Speaker 2: she's up to other things. But did you have any
- 34:22Speaker 2: idea who I was going into this show? Or were
- 34:26Speaker 2: you like this random host who's also been on reality television?
- 34:29Speaker 2: It could potentially ruin my wedding day.
- 34:35Speaker 9: I am not a reality TV watcher. So I did
- 34:39Speaker 9: not know who you were until obviously we started Googling
- 34:43Speaker 9: who you were and then mentioning it to friends and family.
- 34:47Speaker 9: And by the way, Micah's girlfriend, soon to be fiance
- 34:50Speaker 9: Taylor says, hello. Yeah.
- 34:53Speaker 7: I don't think you knew.
- 34:55Speaker 6: Either, but we were like, okay, cool.
- 34:57Speaker 3: Like, I don't know.
- 34:58Speaker 7: I grew up in LA and in the.
- 35:01Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 35:01Speaker 9: The TV show scene. So, um, I know you're just
- 35:04Speaker 9: a normal dude that was on TV. So I think
- 35:09Speaker 9: that was my expectation.
- 35:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:11Speaker 2: One of my hopes with this is like, I am, um,
- 35:16Speaker 2: more involved than I thought I was going to be, honestly,
- 35:19Speaker 2: when I agreed to host this with, you know, coordinating and, uh,
- 35:24Speaker 2: I don't know how much help I am actually, but
- 35:26Speaker 2: I'm making sure things are being done or getting to
- 35:28Speaker 2: do the interviews with the chefs behind the scenes or
- 35:31Speaker 2: the wedding planners behind the scenes and saying, okay, I
- 35:34Speaker 2: know Kinsey's brought this up to me. Is this being
- 35:38Speaker 2: talked about? Are you guys even working on this? One
- 35:41Speaker 2: of my hopes is as the show continues that I
- 35:44Speaker 2: am a place of comfort. Remember me on The Bachelor
- 35:48Speaker 2: or not. that this is a job I take seriously
- 35:52Speaker 2: because it is a wedding for crying out loud. Like
- 35:55Speaker 2: you have to do this. Well, I don't want to
- 35:58Speaker 2: be a part of a show where every time I leave,
- 36:00Speaker 2: I'm like, well, we ruined their day. I do think
- 36:04Speaker 2: this is done so well. I think it's a beautiful show.
- 36:08Speaker 2: I think you're going to love having it captured in
- 36:11Speaker 2: the way that it is captured. The resort looks beautiful.
- 36:15Speaker 2: The team at the resort do such an amazing job
- 36:18Speaker 2: for the two of you. Some stuff that you've probably
- 36:20Speaker 2: not even realized have happened yet. And then we get
- 36:23Speaker 2: to watch two of you say I do at the
- 36:28Speaker 2: conclusion of the episode. Mackenzie and Josh, we wish you
- 36:31Speaker 2: the best. Thank you for saying yes to doing this.
- 36:35Speaker 2: I'm so happy that I got to be a part
- 36:37Speaker 2: of it. And I'm very happy to be able to
- 36:40Speaker 2: promote this now here at the Almost Famous website. McKenzie
- 36:45Speaker 2: and Josh's episode takes place in Cancun, Mexico. It is beautiful, spectacular,
- 36:52Speaker 2: and full of love and all the details that go
- 36:54Speaker 2: into a destination wedding. McKenzie and Josh, we wish you
- 36:57Speaker 2: the best. Thanks for jumping on.
- 36:58Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 36:59Speaker 6: Thanks, Ben.
