Latest / The Psychic Explorer / Facing the Fear: My First Platform Mediumship Event 🔮
Transcript
- 0:09Good afternoon, good morning or good evening.
- 0:13Hello everyone. It's me, Matt from the Psychiexplorer.
- 0:17I hope you're well. I am sat in my back bedroom
- 0:21and I am recording on the day after my birthday.
- 0:26Yes, your host is now 41 years of age and the
- 0:31older I get, the more I feel I am fitting into...
- 0:35her natural age. You know, I've always felt old.
- 0:39I've always felt older, rather, should I say.
- 0:41When I was a kid, my mum used to say to me, you
- 0:45don't like other children. She was completely
- 0:49right, I didn't. And yeah, it's been a really
- 0:53lovely day actually, my other half. took the
- 0:56day off with me and I wanted a very cultural
- 0:59day. I wanted to go to a museum. I wanted to
- 1:02do a tour of a medieval street here in Norwich.
- 1:07Norwich is the nearest city that we live near
- 1:09or the largest town that we live near. And then
- 1:12he took me out for a really beautiful dinner.
- 1:16a place called the Gunton Arms if anybody is
- 1:19in Norfolk you will have heard of the Gunton
- 1:21Arms and they have this incredible grill and
- 1:25just over the grill is this huge skull and antlers
- 1:31and I mean huge I'm talking like three four meters
- 1:35wide just ginormous I had to ask I said to the
- 1:40waitress I said I know you must get asked this
- 1:44all the time." And she laughed and she looked
- 1:46at the skull behind her and she said, you want
- 1:49to know more about that? I said, what is it?
- 1:51Where is it from? She said, it's an elk skull.
- 1:55Because the hotel and the restaurant is on the
- 1:57grounds of a deer park, I just presumed it was
- 1:59a massive deer. But no, she looked at it and
- 2:01she said, well, it's an elk skull and it was
- 2:04found in an Irish peat bog, which is why it's
- 2:08so well preserved. And it's over 10 ,000 years
- 2:11old. why it's not in a museum or why it is over
- 2:14a grill in some pub in Norfolk I have no idea
- 2:18but it was very impressive and the meal was good
- 2:21too so I'm going to sing myself happy birthday
- 2:24happy birthday to me and all that malarkey no
- 2:27I'm not one to celebrate my birthday but yeah
- 2:29it was my birthday so I am now one year older
- 2:32apparently one year wiser than I was the last
- 2:37time you spoke to me but uh onward we step on
- 2:40this march of life I guess as I sit with this
- 2:43with this podcast with these episodes that I
- 2:46am putting out I suppose I want to revisit my
- 2:50journey a little bit more if you will indulge
- 2:52me to just revisit one of the parts of my journey
- 2:57and that journey is my very first platform event
- 3:01Now, for those who don't know, a platform event
- 3:04is when you go to a service or a gathering and
- 3:07you stand up in front of a group of people and
- 3:10you try and tap into the energies and you try
- 3:14and bring forward a loved one for people within
- 3:17the audience. At the time of recording, I've
- 3:20done a few of these now. In fact, I think I was
- 3:22on about five five. I think I've done now where
- 3:24I go to a service and I stand up and I. bring
- 3:29through whoever wants to be brought through to
- 3:32a loved one who's in the audience but I've not
- 3:34yet spoken about my very first one so I thought
- 3:38I'd take the opportunity and again if you'll
- 3:40indulge me to talk about my experience then I
- 3:44will talk about the first time that I did platform
- 3:48the first time I did platform was a complete
- 3:54surprise it was not planned in the slightest
- 3:58It was a weekend and I think I'd gone out on
- 4:03a Saturday evening to see some friends. I wasn't
- 4:06hungover when I woke up on a Sunday but for me
- 4:08Sunday mornings are luxurious. They should be
- 4:13spent in bed. They should be lying in bed and
- 4:16catching up on sleep and Sunday mornings are
- 4:19my mornings when I have breakfast in bed made
- 4:22by my other half. I always get up before him
- 4:25every other morning or every morning in the week
- 4:28apart from Sundays and I make him his breakfast
- 4:31and then we go to work but Sundays are my mornings
- 4:35where I am made breakfast which I really look
- 4:38forward to so I'm laying in bed this particular
- 4:41Sunday morning and I noticed that I have a WhatsApp
- 4:45message on my phone and it was Nicola who you
- 4:49have heard from who was in the episode about
- 4:51circles a few months back now And this is what
- 4:55she had to say. Good morning, Matt. Well, I am
- 5:01just putting it out there and it is quite late
- 5:04in the day, which actually is a rather strange
- 5:06expression right now, as it's actually early
- 5:08on a Sunday. But I have just been asked by the
- 5:13centre I'm working for this evening if I would
- 5:15like to bring a student with me. I'll make a
- 5:18pause while you now run around in circles deciding
- 5:21whether you'd like to be sick or not with just
- 5:23the thought of it. But would you like the experience?
- 5:28Why not accept the challenge? Bye! Sick? Sick
- 5:35was not the word. I promise you now I went cold.
- 5:40I went numb. I went clammy. Oh the thought of
- 5:46the memory of that morning just now still fills
- 5:51me with borderline revulsion I couldn't quite
- 5:57believe what I was being asked because as you
- 6:01all very well know in my head I was just nowhere
- 6:05near ready surely in my mind I was still just
- 6:09exploring this but Nicola had reached out to
- 6:12me with enough confidence in me that she was
- 6:15willing to take me to an event that she was conducting
- 6:19to have me practice in front of a room full of
- 6:24strangers. When I look back on that morning I
- 6:27remember my other half coming up bringing me
- 6:29breakfast and saying to me, you alright? I said
- 6:32no and I replayed the message to him whereas
- 6:38my mind was i can't possibly do this what on
- 6:42earth is she thinking he said to me well she
- 6:46clearly trusts that you can do this so are you
- 6:48going to do it and there was a moment when i
- 6:51thought i don't want to actually that moment
- 6:55stayed with me the whole day but there was another
- 6:58moment or another thought that entered my mind
- 7:01the thought if i don't do this now i don't think
- 7:04i'm ever going to do it And I've never been one
- 7:08to shy away from challenging myself or trying
- 7:12new things. And I thought, you know what? I just
- 7:15got to put my faith in whatever is out there
- 7:19that I can just do this. When Theresa Caputo
- 7:23looks back on her development in her podcast,
- 7:27she often tells a story that she sat down and
- 7:31she had a conversation with God or whoever. And
- 7:35she said, if you open the doors, I will walk
- 7:37through them. And I thought, this is my door
- 7:41moment. This is my version of someone opening
- 7:45a door. And all I have to do is step through
- 7:49it. So I messaged her and said, can I speak with
- 7:54you? And she said, yep. So I called her and I
- 7:59said, yes. I said, yep, I will do it. I don't
- 8:03want to do it. I made that very clear. I don't
- 8:07want to do it, but I will do it and Thank you
- 8:12so much for having faith in me That whole day
- 8:18Was a bit of a blur. I don't really know what
- 8:21I did. I know I was just in my head the whole
- 8:24time I thought should I Meditate should I not
- 8:27should I just wait till later on to meditate?
- 8:30Honestly, I just felt physically sick. I thought
- 8:32oh I kept walking around saying oh god and making
- 8:35these noise like Just want to throw up just want
- 8:38to vomit This doesn't feel This is what it's
- 8:43supposed to feel like to do this every single
- 8:45time There's no way I want to do this as a regular
- 8:49thing But I just had to have faith that it was
- 8:54going to be okay. It was going to work out all
- 8:57right I was so in my head about getting up there
- 9:02in front of 30, 40, how many people it was going
- 9:05to be and nothing happening. And what were they
- 9:11going to think? It wasn't even a case of... What
- 9:13was Nicola going to think? What were they going
- 9:15to think of Nicola for bringing this loser along
- 9:18with her who thought he had disability, but when
- 9:21he got up and stood in front of these people,
- 9:23nothing happened or he was just making it all
- 9:25up. That was that. OK, that was it. That was
- 9:28if I felt something and I said it, but no one
- 9:32could take it. And everyone thinking I'm just
- 9:36making this up. That is the fear I had. that
- 9:42fear of what are they going to think of me and
- 9:46I say again it wasn't even a case of what Nicola
- 9:49was gonna think of me because you know I'd had
- 9:52these conversations with her previously I said
- 9:54I don't know if this is all in my head and I
- 9:57remember she said to me Matt you are now at a
- 10:00stage where you are doing this you are at a level
- 10:03but you have to decide whether or not you want
- 10:07to do it you have to decide whether or not it's
- 10:10real and if you don't think it is then you need
- 10:12to step back from it if you think it is then
- 10:15we'll continue and I always remember that I always
- 10:18remember that conversation with those it was
- 10:21just something you said in passing but to me
- 10:23it had so much impact that phrase of the only
- 10:27person standing in your way is you and if you're
- 10:30going to believe then you've got to believe in
- 10:31it so what I spent the rest of that day doing
- 10:35I could not tell you probably driving my other
- 10:39half absolutely crazy with me worrying about
- 10:43what ifs and all this sort of stuff that was
- 10:46going through my mind but she arranged to collect
- 10:48me that evening and the time came and I had meditated
- 10:52beforehand and we drove to this little coastal
- 10:56town where this village hall had been set up
- 11:00for a platform event I walked in and the person
- 11:05who was running this centre. So you will have
- 11:08heard in Nicola's WhatsApp message say that she
- 11:11was serving a centre. I don't know what it's
- 11:14like in other parts of the world, but in the
- 11:16UK, centres are... I guess you could call them
- 11:21sort of our versions of churches. I don't like
- 11:25to call them that because they're not churches,
- 11:27but they're just a group of people who meet on
- 11:30a regular basis at a regular place. where they
- 11:32have these events where they invite other mediums
- 11:36or they have resident mediums come in and they
- 11:39give addresses, they give prayers, they give
- 11:41messages. Sometimes there's music, sometimes
- 11:44there's not and it does sound all very happy
- 11:47clappy and I have to admit it's not something
- 11:49I still feel very comfortable with when I do
- 11:51these things. I do tend to mime the songs because
- 11:55I don't feel comfortable singing the songs live.
- 11:58We pulled up to this village hall and I think
- 12:01we were the first people to arrive so we walked
- 12:04in and we were greeted by the woman who ran this
- 12:07particular centre and she showed us into a little
- 12:10side room and we just sat. Nicola reminded me
- 12:15that she understood the sick feeling that I was
- 12:19feeling at that time, the panic, the feeling
- 12:23of just wanting to steal her keys, run out the
- 12:26door and just drive back home. But instead, we
- 12:31just sat in quiet meditation. Now, if I'm honest,
- 12:34did I meditate? Absolutely not. I could not even
- 12:39contemplate being that calm at that time. I was
- 12:43a mass, a tangled mass of nerves. And before
- 12:48we left that side room to go into the main room,
- 12:51she stopped and said, your mum's here. and I
- 12:55feel like I just want to give you a big hug from
- 12:57her and she gave me a huge hug and with that
- 13:01we walked out into this hall. Now there were
- 13:06about 30 or so people waiting in this hall and
- 13:10we were taken to the front where we sat down
- 13:13and faced these people. I tend to have a I wouldn't
- 13:21necessarily say a flamboyant wardrobe, but it's
- 13:24certainly colourful. I've got a few items in
- 13:27there which I really like wearing. My other half
- 13:29is not so certain on some of my choices of clothing,
- 13:34but I made sure that I wore something that was
- 13:37engaging, that was smart, and was going to either
- 13:44command or distract the attention if I was going
- 13:47to go sideways. And as I sat, at the front of
- 13:51this hall. The people in the front row were talking
- 13:55to me and saying, oh, I like your trousers or
- 13:58I like, I like your jacket. I can't remember
- 14:01what I was wearing. I've got a feeling I was
- 14:03wearing like a green and gold flowery sort of
- 14:07suit jacket. And it sounds horrendous, but I
- 14:09really quite like it. It's really quite nice.
- 14:11Every time I wear it, I always get nice compliments.
- 14:14And I was just trying to settle my nerves and
- 14:18bless them. all the people in the audience who
- 14:21were engaging with me were trying to calm me
- 14:25as well saying don't worry you'll be fine if
- 14:27nothing comes through it's not a problem you
- 14:29know this is just your first time you should
- 14:32be really proud that you're just doing this and
- 14:34you you're you're here and i was i was really
- 14:37proud that weeks before i was doubting my own
- 14:40sanity, doubting that any of this was real and
- 14:42here I was taking the next step because someone
- 14:45had believed in me enough that when I delivered
- 14:48these messages they rang true for people, they
- 14:52touched people in a way that moved them to tears,
- 14:56that helped them move forward in their lives
- 14:58and I hope I'm not putting too much meaning into
- 15:01that but for me it was important to get you know,
- 15:04my buzzword from episode two, the overused buzzword,
- 15:07but to get that validation that what I was saying
- 15:11was touching people, was true for people. If
- 15:16I'm absolutely honest with you, my dear, dear
- 15:19listeners, the rest of that evening was a bit
- 15:21of a blur. It was autumn last year. I think it
- 15:25was even earlier than that. It was late summer
- 15:27last year. I remember getting up and I remember
- 15:31Nicola delivering her address. and she delivered
- 15:35her first message. I think she even delivered
- 15:37a second message and then she said, right Matt,
- 15:39do you want to give it a go? And I stood up and
- 15:43I did, I just wanted to autopilot. I just thought,
- 15:46right, I just got to talk and I spoke from my
- 15:48heart. I tried to get the audience to engage
- 15:50with me to be on my side by cracking a couple
- 15:53of jokes. And I suppose as well by pre -warning
- 15:57them that this was my first time doing this in
- 15:59front of an audience this size. and to be gentle
- 16:02with me if nothing happened. But it did. Now,
- 16:08I don't remember the messages I've delivered,
- 16:10but I remember being drawn to someone and giving
- 16:15them the description of the person I felt was
- 16:19coming through. And they were saying, yes, I
- 16:21can take that. Yes, I understand what you're
- 16:23saying. And suddenly within me, I was like, oh,
- 16:27this is happening. Oh, God, this is working.
- 16:29This isn't just. happening in the circle that
- 16:32I go to. This isn't just accepted by people who
- 16:35already believe in it. I mean, yes, these people
- 16:38did believe in this stuff, but these were people
- 16:40I'd never met before. These are people I've never
- 16:42seen in my life. And I was still able to tell
- 16:46them things about their loved one, who I was
- 16:48feeling, still able to tell them things about
- 16:51their lives that they were going through. And
- 16:54they were able to confirm that what I was saying
- 16:57was resonating with them. I suppose, as I sit
- 17:01here now, doing this for a while now, I want
- 17:06to say helping, but I think that shows my development.
- 17:10Now when I do this, I feel that it is important
- 17:14that you do help people through their grief or
- 17:16help people in their day -to -day life. Back
- 17:19then, if I'm honest with myself, during that
- 17:22first service when I got up and stood up in front
- 17:25of these people, I was just grateful that what
- 17:28I was saying was being validated, was being recognized
- 17:32by people. Did I do a perfect job? Absolutely
- 17:36not, no. Did I drop the psychic? Yes, I did.
- 17:40And it's something that I didn't realize I did
- 17:43until I got home that evening. Nikola dropped
- 17:47me off home. We were talking about it the whole
- 17:50night. And I remember coming back in the car
- 17:52and I said, I think I understand. I just got
- 17:54to enjoy it. I've got to try to take that expectation
- 17:57off my shoulders. It's not mine to own. It's
- 18:00not mine to have. Instead, I've just got to try
- 18:03and enjoy what I do, enjoy the readings I give,
- 18:07enjoy the response that I get back. And that's
- 18:11it. I remember saying to her, just repeating,
- 18:13this is really exciting. This is really exciting
- 18:16because that validation again, I'm sorry to reuse
- 18:20that word over and over, but the validation I
- 18:22was getting from the audience was telling me,
- 18:25Okay, these images you're seeing in your mind,
- 18:28these feelings you are having in your heart,
- 18:31these stories that are just coming out of your
- 18:34mouth, they are coming from somewhere. And to
- 18:37hold on to that, to have faith that that is helping
- 18:41people, that is coming from somewhere from beyond
- 18:44my own imagination. I suppose the moral of the
- 18:48story, dear listeners, is that when opportunity
- 18:53comes knocking, accept it, take it, grab hold
- 18:58of it with both arms. Even if the opportunity
- 19:02is not seen as opportunity, even if the opportunity
- 19:06is seen as something terrifying, something scary,
- 19:10something you don't want to do, get comfortable
- 19:14with being uncomfortable. That I think is what
- 19:19I have learned from this, from that experience.
- 19:25I'll forever be grateful to Nicola for pushing
- 19:28me, for thinking of me, for inviting me to that
- 19:32center, that service. She didn't have to, but
- 19:35she did. And it really pushed me along. And like
- 19:38I say, now I've been invited to four or five
- 19:41of those events. And actually in January, Nicola
- 19:44has asked me to hold an entire service by myself.
- 19:50That will be another one. That'll be another
- 19:53one where I don't wear white underwear. Sorry
- 19:56for being too graphic there. But yeah, it's a
- 20:00progression, isn't it? It really is a progression.
- 20:03And when we as psychics and mediums say that
- 20:06we are developing, we really are developing,
- 20:10but I think it's very easy to forget that that
- 20:14development means that we need to put one foot
- 20:18in front of the other. and sometimes we don't
- 20:22know where the floor is when we put that foot
- 20:25down when we move forward we can't always see
- 20:28where that foot is being placed and we have to
- 20:32have faith that wherever that foot lands is going
- 20:35to take us to somewhere better one way or another
- 20:40so my lovely lovely listeners i'm going to leave
- 20:43that story there just a short one for you today
- 20:46to have a think about i'd love to hear How you
- 20:50have developed? Have you experienced any moments
- 20:52in your development? In your life that have pushed
- 20:56you? Things, moments in your path where you haven't
- 20:59necessarily chosen to do something but an opportunity
- 21:02has come up and you chose to take it. You chose
- 21:05to dive off of that diving board. And where did
- 21:08that take you? Where are you now? I'd love to
- 21:11hear from you. You can find me on Instagram,
- 21:15Facebook, threads and now TikTok. Yes, TikTok,
- 21:20you heard me correctly. I'm not going to be twerking
- 21:22or doing the ice bucket challenge or anything
- 21:24trendy, and you'll be grateful to hear, but it's
- 21:28just another platform for me to reach more people,
- 21:31to help more people. But if you're on that, then
- 21:33give us a shout, the .psychic .explorer. The
- 21:38next episode that I have in store for you is
- 21:41a guest episode. And this guest episode features
- 21:44the lovely Judy Wayman. Judy is here to talk
- 21:48about the power of words as mediums and psychics
- 21:52and you know what, not even that, just people.
- 21:55Words have so much impact on how they affect
- 21:59other people. So I really wanted to talk to Judy
- 22:03about how she uses words. Judy is a celebrant
- 22:06here in Norfolk. She uses words daily to tell
- 22:10other people's stories. So I will love you and
- 22:13leave you. with a quick preview of the next episode
- 22:18and that's coming out in two weeks time. So if
- 22:20you haven't already, make sure you are subscribed
- 22:22to this podcast on whatever platform you are
- 22:24listening on so that when the new episode drops,
- 22:27it goes straight into your inbox or downloads
- 22:31automatically. If you even have a spare 30 seconds,
- 22:35a comment or even a rating of this podcast again
- 22:39on whatever platform you are using to listen
- 22:41to this on would mean so much to me and would
- 22:45just promote this podcast a little bit more and
- 22:48hopefully get a bit more reach so that more people
- 22:50can be helped maybe by my story if you haven't
- 22:54got the time trust me i get it that's absolutely
- 22:57fine but before i say my goodbyes i will leave
- 23:00you with this quick preview of judy's episode
- 23:03in two weeks time She was railing against one
- 23:12of the consultants who could be quite cutting.
- 23:16She said to me, words are like fire, they destroy.
- 23:21Now I think that's from the Bible. But I thought
- 23:25about that for a long time and I saw the other
- 23:29side of it. That words can be beautiful, they
- 23:33can be uplifting, they can be transformative.
- 23:37And that really set me on that path. Guys, I
- 23:44will love you and leave you. Thank you so much
- 23:46for listening to yet another episode. We are
- 23:49soon going to be in autumn, my favorite time
- 23:52of year. I cannot wait for the days to get shorter
