- 0:22to lead us through today's journey, here is your
- 0:27host. Pastor David. This is Voices of Life, a
- 0:32ministry of the Church for Life, where history,
- 0:35faith, and truth meet. I'm Pastor David, and
- 0:38today we're taking a clear, factual look at the
- 0:40history of Palestine. Not the slogans, not the
- 0:44politics, but the real story. And by the end,
- 0:47you'll understand why modern cries to free Palestine
- 0:50don't match the historical record. So did you
- 0:54know that the word Palestine is ancient? But
- 0:58there never was an independent sovereign nation
- 1:01called Palestine before the modern era. There
- 1:05was no Palestinian nation that was comparable
- 1:09to a modern Israel, Jordan, Egypt, or even Syria
- 1:12before modern Palestinian national movement.
- 1:16For centuries, Palestine was a geographic region,
- 1:20not a country. It was ruled by a long succession
- 1:24of empires, Israelites, Assyrians, Babylonians,
- 1:29Persians, Romans, Byzantines, Islamic Caliphates,
- 1:33Crusaders, Mamluks, Ottomans, and finally the
- 1:37British. So when people say Palestine was stolen,
- 1:42they're imagining a sovereign nation that never
- 1:45existed. From 1516 to 1917, the Ottoman Empire
- 1:52controlled the region. But even then, there was
- 1:55no province called the independent state of palestine
- 1:58the territory was administered through various
- 2:01ottoman districts modern palestine nationalism
- 2:05had not yet developed people identified by religion
- 2:09village clan region or ottoman identity not by
- 2:14a national palestine state so there was the british
- 2:18mandate that created palestine as an administrative
- 2:21entity So after World War I, Britain took control
- 2:25and the League of Nations formally created the
- 2:27British Mandate for Palestine in 1922. This is
- 2:31the first time Palestine became a recognized
- 2:34administrative territory, but still not a sovereign
- 2:39country. Palestine absolutely existed as a recognized
- 2:43territorial administrative entity. It was not
- 2:45an independent country. That is very far cry
- 2:47from being a state or a country. For the most
- 2:51part, it was the name of a region, but there
- 2:54was no land attached to it. There was no government
- 2:56attached to it. That's not what it was. The mandate
- 2:59included both sides of the Jordan River until
- 3:02Britain separated the eastern portion into the
- 3:05Transjordan, which became the modern Jordan today.
- 3:09This matters greatly for today's slogans. Many
- 3:13activists today show maps of historic Palestine.
- 3:17that included all land from the Mediterranean
- 3:19to the Jordan River and beyond. So if someone
- 3:22uses the pre -1922 geographic boundaries, modern
- 3:26Jordan occupies a huge portion of that historical
- 3:29territory. So if historic Palestine is the basis
- 3:33of a claim, then Jordan, not Israel, occupies
- 3:37most of it. Now the question is, would Jordan
- 3:40give that land up? Very doubtful. They've had
- 3:43decades to consider it, and each time it's been
- 3:46rejected. So this is why the slogan Free Palestine
- 3:50is historically incoherent. There is no sovereign
- 3:54Palestinian land waiting to be freed. In 1947,
- 3:59the UN proposed two states, a Jewish state and
- 4:03an Arab -Palestine state. But, unfortunately,
- 4:07the proposed Arab -Palestine state did not materialize.
- 4:10materialize. Why? Well, instead, Jordan took
- 4:14the West Bank, Egypt took Gaza, and Israel became
- 4:19its own sovereign state. There's still no Palestine
- 4:23country. Israel captured the West Bank, Gaza,
- 4:28and East Jerusalem in 1967. These territories
- 4:32became the center of the modern conflict. But
- 4:36even then, Palestinians did not have a sovereign
- 4:39state. They had no claim on those lands. They
- 4:42lived under Jordanian, Egyptian, or Israeli administration.
- 4:47Palestinians are located in already occupied
- 4:50countries, and they have been trying to annex
- 4:53areas that belong to other governments. So let's
- 4:57go back to the PLO and the modern state of Palestine.
- 5:01The PLO, Palestinian Liberation Organization,
- 5:03declared the state of Palestine in 1988. but
- 5:07it did not gain full sovereignty or control of
- 5:09any kind of land or territory. It was just a
- 5:11statement. The state of Palestine exists as a
- 5:15partially recognized state, but it does not exercise
- 5:19any control over contiguous territory. Again,
- 5:23it is something that was just declared a name
- 5:25only, and honestly, the UN did some partial recognition
- 5:31just to basically appease them. But there is
- 5:37still no territory, no land. So today, Palestinians
- 5:41live in Jordan, they live in Israel, they live
- 5:44in Gaza, they live in West Bank, they live in
- 5:47Lebanon, Syria, and other states. But there is
- 5:50no sovereign Palestinian land to free. There
- 5:53are territories administered by existing governments
- 5:56where Palestinian political movements seek sovereignty,
- 5:59often through annexation claims. But these governments
- 6:02have rejected that, and they're not giving up
- 6:04any portions of their land. So let's talk about
- 6:08the modern slogan versus historic reality. The
- 6:11slogan Free Palestine suggests a sovereign country
- 6:14once existed, its land is currently occupied,
- 6:17and it must be liberated. But the historical
- 6:20record, including everything we've talked about,
- 6:23Palestine was historically a geographic and administrative
- 6:27name, not a continuous existing sovereign Palestine
- 6:31nation, state, or country. Therefore, There is
- 6:35no historic Palestine country to restore. There
- 6:38is no sovereign Palestine land to free. Palestinians
- 6:41today live within territories governed by Jordan,
- 6:44Egypt, Israel, and the Palestinian Authority.
- 6:48Modern political movements seek to annex land
- 6:51administrated by other governments, not reclaim
- 6:54a former nation because there is nothing to reclaim.
- 6:58So this is why the slogan is emotionally powerful,
- 7:01but historically inaccurate totally. And it is
- 7:06amazing how many people believe it because they
- 7:10hear it. They never look back into the history.
- 7:12And that's why we're doing this Voices of Life
- 7:15Did You Know? Because we want people to know
- 7:18the truth about Palestine. Now, could people
- 7:22that believe in having a Palestine ever negotiate
- 7:25with one of these governments some land? You
- 7:28never know what the future brings. But right
- 7:29now, there is no Palestine. There are people
- 7:33that are calling themselves Palestinian, but
- 7:36again, it has no historical basis. There is nothing
- 7:40to attach it to, no hidden land, no historic
- 7:43land, not even going back to any ancient Islamic
- 7:47readings. This is all just somebody's vivid imagination
- 7:52that has kind of gone wild. It's kind of like
- 7:54when you tell somebody something and they tell
- 7:56somebody something and before you know it, it...
- 7:59People think it's the truth. But we want you
- 8:01to know the truth for the right reasons. So if
- 8:04you do have a belief in Palestine, you need to
- 8:08go about this the right way and understand there's
- 8:11nothing you can do except petition governments
- 8:13and ask them. And these are all mostly Jordan.
- 8:17Jordan has the majority of that land. So that
- 8:19would be the government I'd be putting all my
- 8:21focus on. Not Israel. Certainly not here in the
- 8:24U .S. And not these others. Maybe some of Egypt.
- 8:29That is the truth about Palestine we wanted you
- 8:32to know. We wanted you to know because history
- 8:34matters, words matter, and truth matters. Palestine
- 8:39was a region, not a sovereign nation, and today's
- 8:43political slogans often ignore the real historical
- 8:46record. Here at Voices of Life, we believe clarity
- 8:50brings peace, and truth brings understanding.
- 8:54I'm Pastor David. Thank you for joining me today.
