- 0:00Speaker 1: The Driver's Show. Please don't call it an electric car.
- 0:04Speaker 1: We call it.
- 0:05Speaker 2: New energy powered by a Misson Nano Taylor toil over
- 0:13Speaker 2: a century of engineering excellence. It means cutting edge, nanoscale technology.
- 0:24Speaker 3: I will say one thing, which is paper straws are ship.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Paper straws are ship, and in my house I bulk
- 0:34Speaker 3: by plastic straws because you do do a lot of
- 0:37Speaker 3: cocaine and you have extremely big nostrils.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Hoover. I think your wife calls you sometimes I call
- 0:45Speaker 1: her that as well. So yeah, yeah, yeah, you'll be
- 0:50Speaker 1: You'll be using their nose to vacuum the carpet. For that,
- 0:53Speaker 1: that little comment, you should probably stop. Everyone tuned in
- 1:00Speaker 1: to hear stuff like this. Hmmm, it admits to oil
- 1:06Speaker 1: that you drizzled on. No, that is That's not me eating.
- 1:11Speaker 1: By the way, I'm just having my way with the janitor.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Donna's in the corner two years with to chuck a
- 1:17Speaker 1: leg over goodnight. He's a caramel Sunday. You got yourself, Donna.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Thank you. Darling got to be back on the program.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Jesus Christ, I've got a mcfuck theer. Any as you
- 1:36Speaker 1: choked to death, I'm gonna tell him. It was a
- 1:40Speaker 1: fucking happy meal. Here's your toy, Pavely. Oh god, what
- 1:50Speaker 1: have you been up to. I've been driving a lot
- 1:52Speaker 1: of cars, driving a lot of cars, been covering a
- 1:55Speaker 1: lot of range, planning a road trip. Actually, oh well,
- 2:00Speaker 1: I'll be going from Sydney to Melbourne Boring, which can
- 2:03Speaker 1: be a very boring road trip. I think we might
- 2:06Speaker 1: take the Cynic route, which is quite nice. I'm still sorr.
- 2:10Speaker 1: I've got a pube in my mouth from Donner m
- 2:16Speaker 1: So we might go through places like Maurumbula, Biger I'm
- 2:20Speaker 1: not sure. But and then once we hit Melbourne, we're
- 2:24Speaker 1: going to go up to the the country, the high
- 2:28Speaker 1: country of Victoria. Oh yeah, and we might do a
- 2:31Speaker 1: bit of skiing. Oh watt, Yeah, that's cute. And I
- 2:35Speaker 1: will be doing this all in a Genesis g eight
- 2:41Speaker 1: mm hmm. Your boy got back with Genesis. I'm doing
- 2:44Speaker 1: it all in a beautiful Matt Green the way it
- 2:48Speaker 1: should be. Spect here Matt Green. I'm hoping they'll do
- 2:51Speaker 1: the tan interior, but we'll see. So there's a bit
- 2:55Speaker 1: of a road trip comingly. But it's a cast sale
- 2:59Speaker 1: of my and fell through as in I went to
- 3:01Speaker 1: buy one and oh here's the thing. Right, So obviously
- 3:06Speaker 1: you know how I'm in not too much of a
- 3:07Speaker 1: rush to buy a car because our good friends at
- 3:10Speaker 1: MG have given me a long termer, which at the
- 3:15Speaker 1: moment is the HS, the Big Boy, and been quite
- 3:20Speaker 1: enjoying that. It's been good. I thought, well, look here's
- 3:23Speaker 1: a car that doesn't pop up too often. And it
- 3:28Speaker 1: was a bit expensive. It was like really pressing my budget,
- 3:32Speaker 1: and so I got a pretty good not a pretty
- 3:36Speaker 1: good price. I wasn't happy with it, but I'm like,
- 3:38Speaker 1: fuck it, I'm going to do it. I'm going to
- 3:39Speaker 1: do it. These don't come up much and smens is
- 3:41Speaker 1: killing me. What was the car? Wait for it? So Genesis.
- 3:46Speaker 1: I drove this beautiful you go around? No, no, you
- 3:51Speaker 1: go and I drive this beautiful car around and went, okay,
- 3:55Speaker 1: this is good. Now, as you know, I'm a family man,
- 4:00Speaker 1: yes I've had I need a family car, and I
- 4:05Speaker 1: thought it would be appropriate being the family man that
- 4:09Speaker 1: I am, to purchase an Audi ttrs.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Oh wow, so you're splitting from your wife and you're
- 4:17Speaker 3: getting into no no, no.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Head dressing for some reason. Stop it. I've got Genesis
- 4:24Speaker 1: for my hairdressing salon. Business. That's an interesting choice. Okay,
- 4:31Speaker 1: So I will say here's what I know about you. Yeah,
- 4:34Speaker 1: you're not a fan of the TT.
- 4:35Speaker 3: No, the TTRS I am a fan of because he's
- 4:38Speaker 3: got the five cylinder engine out of the RS three. Yes,
- 4:40Speaker 3: that is one I would find acceptable, but.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Just acceptable and exceptional even. Yes, but how much I'm
- 4:48Speaker 1: cure actually, how many k's are pretty good? About forty
- 4:51Speaker 1: five thousand, what year as I think roughly a twenty
- 4:55Speaker 1: twenty okay, and how much eighty two drive away? That's
- 5:01Speaker 1: not too bad.
- 5:02Speaker 3: How much were they knew they were pretty expensive? Yeah,
- 5:04Speaker 3: because the TT was about one hundred grand.
- 5:07Speaker 1: The RS was like right up there, one hundred at
- 5:09Speaker 1: a stretch. I think I think brand new, around about
- 5:12Speaker 1: ninety five drive away. But yeah, the the RS was
- 5:16Speaker 1: x y as. I thought this was a pretty good
- 5:18Speaker 1: deal given what they are one for t trs when
- 5:22Speaker 1: it was new. So I took this thing for a
- 5:25Speaker 1: driver and I was like, it was just kind of
- 5:28Speaker 1: like I've always wanted to drive one of those, and
- 5:32Speaker 1: I'm like, you know, these don't come up much. Fuck it,
- 5:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna take it for dest drive. Booke didn't dest drive,
- 5:39Speaker 1: and I loved it ripped the shit out of it. Goodness, Wow,
- 5:46Speaker 1: what did you do to you? I think I've got
- 5:48Speaker 1: some Donna's labby according my foot. Sorry, darn's a bit
- 5:52Speaker 1: of a rolled up tissue paper. I didn't want me
- 5:55Speaker 1: Johnna properly Donna. Yeah. So I took the things for
- 6:00Speaker 1: a test drive. Absolute monster, really great car. In fact,
- 6:03Speaker 1: it reminded me. I got the same thrill from this
- 6:06Speaker 1: as I would in a nine to eleven, probably more,
- 6:09Speaker 1: because it's it's interesting when you've got a car you
- 6:11Speaker 1: could easily rip around and the powers coming from the front.
- 6:15Speaker 1: But it's it's it's just got such control and such
- 6:17Speaker 1: precision about it. I'll steal it just in case it
- 6:20Speaker 1: is normal tt. Yeah, yeah, that's right. But it's it's
- 6:25Speaker 1: just got some seriously good sounds to it and great power,
- 6:29Speaker 1: and it's so fucking engaged. Like ah, okay, So what happened?
- 6:34Speaker 1: So I said to we we were going to and
- 6:37Speaker 1: fro all week. Dealer or private dealer, okay, yep. So
- 6:40Speaker 1: we were going back and forth all week, and I
- 6:43Speaker 1: will say this was an Ourdi dealership too, so that
- 6:45Speaker 1: kind of meant a lot. I wanted to make sure
- 6:47Speaker 1: that it was going through. So, going through back and forth,
- 6:51Speaker 1: we agreed on a price finally, and to be honest,
- 6:54Speaker 1: eighty was kind of my top. I didn't want to
- 6:55Speaker 1: go eighty two is far acceptable. So we got to that.
- 7:01Speaker 1: I said, cool, I'm going to come down there on
- 7:03Speaker 1: Saturday morning and I'm going to get this sorted. And
- 7:07Speaker 1: then there was a sort of like do I pay
- 7:09Speaker 1: for this hour right or do I put this on finance?
- 7:13Speaker 1: And so I sort of thought, you know what I'm
- 7:15Speaker 1: going to just I don't know what they call it.
- 7:17Speaker 1: I'll put basically partial down and then do the rest
- 7:19Speaker 1: on finance. So I said, can you get your finance
- 7:23Speaker 1: guy to call me? Because I want to get it
- 7:26Speaker 1: all sorted. So Saturday morning, I give the guy i've
- 7:29Speaker 1: been dealing with a call. I said, hey, can you
- 7:33Speaker 1: can you get your finance guy to call me please?
- 7:35Speaker 1: I'm going to come down at midday today and we'll
- 7:36Speaker 1: get it sorted. But I want to make sure it's
- 7:38Speaker 1: kind of all paid for and done before I come down.
- 7:41Speaker 1: And then plus I wanted to know what their rates
- 7:43Speaker 1: were and stuff like that. So he goes, yeah, no worries.
- 7:45Speaker 1: So his finance guy called me and I had the
- 7:48Speaker 1: kid at the time, and I said, look, just give me,
- 7:50Speaker 1: give me five minutes, so I me just sort this.
- 7:52Speaker 1: She's just fall bloody, taken a stack on the bike.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Give me five minutes or go back. Call this guy
- 7:56Speaker 1: in five minutes. He didn't answer. Called him back again
- 7:59Speaker 1: in ten, didn't answer, fifteen didn't answer. I don't know,
- 8:02Speaker 1: and then i'd by the third time, I'd left a message,
- 8:05Speaker 1: and I think I sent the dealer a text as well,
- 8:08Speaker 1: like hey, just waiting on a call from your finance
- 8:10Speaker 1: guy back. And then about an hour later I get
- 8:14Speaker 1: this ping on my phone and they fucking sold it.
- 8:17Speaker 1: I'm like, that's a bit rough, like pay deposit though no, wow,
- 8:22Speaker 1: no no money talking in there in a good will game,
- 8:26Speaker 1: are they No? So I wasn't as devastated as I
- 8:32Speaker 1: thought i'd be. I was a little bit, but I thought,
- 8:34Speaker 1: you know what, this happens for a reason, Like, you know,
- 8:37Speaker 1: eighty grand's a lot of cash. I could get like
- 8:39Speaker 1: an affordable family view call, like an MG or something
- 8:44Speaker 1: like that. And then with the other forty grand, I
- 8:46Speaker 1: could probably get something like a nice secondhand boxter or
- 8:50Speaker 1: something like that, or an MG. Actually, so it's a
- 8:53Speaker 1: good exercise because I looked at like, okay, what can
- 8:56Speaker 1: eighty thousand dollars get me? Well, you know what can
- 9:02Speaker 1: eighty thousand bucks get me? I looked it up on
- 9:04Speaker 1: car sales, eighty thousand dollars. You know how you can
- 9:07Speaker 1: choose from power, power or whatever. Power at the top
- 9:10Speaker 1: of the pile. And of course it was giving me
- 9:13Speaker 1: a lot of Tesla fucking performance. So I unchecked that
- 9:17Speaker 1: and what else was the giving me? It was giving
- 9:19Speaker 1: me The top few were the MG four x power.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it's the criterion. Yeah, whereas I like to
- 9:27Speaker 1: call it sex power because get a lot of action
- 9:31Speaker 1: in that. So that was good. And they're a good
- 9:35Speaker 1: looking carton. Yeah, and they're cheap. Um. It was just
- 9:39Speaker 1: coming affordable, thank you. That's that's the just looking at
- 9:44Speaker 1: that's on your contract words. Just looking for the terms
- 9:47Speaker 1: and conditions here. Please do not refer to it as cheap.
- 9:51Speaker 1: We prefer affordable. And please don't call it an electric car.
- 9:55Speaker 1: We call it new energy. I so, actually, speaking of
- 10:04Speaker 1: new energy, the by D seal performance had come up
- 10:08Speaker 1: as well, which I fucking love to be honest, I
- 10:11Speaker 1: love those cars. I sort of considered that as well.
- 10:14Speaker 1: So look I don't know, the jury is still out.
- 10:19Speaker 1: I thought, well, you know, maybe like a nice three
- 10:22Speaker 1: series beamer like in line six as well. Sorry, yeah,
- 10:26Speaker 1: lots of lots of options, but I don't know if
- 10:27Speaker 1: you've got any ideas. Yeah, hit cardy up, yeah, I
- 10:31Speaker 1: was talking about you. Oh you're the expert. What do
- 10:35Speaker 1: you reckon? I don't know.
- 10:37Speaker 3: It's you said you wanted a family car and then
- 10:39Speaker 3: you expressly went and didn't get a family car.
- 10:41Speaker 1: So well, technically I can put the kid in the
- 10:43Speaker 1: back of one of those. Yeah, so it's family to
- 10:47Speaker 1: me baby, Yeah, but not practical. Yeah, I don't know.
- 10:51Speaker 3: I'm gonna have to think about that. Maybe ask me
- 10:53Speaker 3: again later in the episode.
- 10:55Speaker 1: I think it's a tricky one because, yeah, family and
- 10:58Speaker 1: cool and performance. I don't think they've now that. Yeah, yeah,
- 11:04Speaker 1: there you go. There It is not how do you
- 11:07Speaker 1: go in the wet with that car? By the way, Yeah,
- 11:10Speaker 1: you don't go great in the way, you don't go
- 11:11Speaker 1: around corners. No, basically, yeah, so there's that ish. Yeah,
- 11:17Speaker 1: family and cool, it's a it's a tricky mix. Maybe
- 11:21Speaker 1: a maybe a Copra Travis scan Oh what travesty that
- 11:27Speaker 1: would be. I don't think there. I think Coopra are
- 11:30Speaker 1: great car. Actually, I tell you what I'm gonna I've
- 11:33Speaker 1: been trying to repair my relationship with the Volkswagen Group
- 11:37Speaker 1: of later and that. Yeah, that hasn't gone great. So
- 11:43Speaker 1: I will just say this, the Tea Rock Are I
- 11:47Speaker 1: find them just underwhelming. Tig One are though. Tig One, Yeah,
- 11:52Speaker 1: that's a different story. That's a nice that's a nice car.
- 11:55Speaker 1: The Tea ROCKR.
- 11:56Speaker 3: They did do an update to the interior that made
- 11:58Speaker 3: it nicer, and it's got a good engine.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Very quick. Oh see, I didn't think so do you
- 12:04Speaker 1: press the throttle? Yes, it makes some cute, little like
- 12:09Speaker 1: complimentary sounds. I was like, okay, this is all you've gone.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Look at me my Tea Rock card too, dude. I
- 12:18Speaker 1: was like, Nah, this isn't happening for me. This isn't
- 12:21Speaker 1: going on. Do you know what really gets to me
- 12:26Speaker 1: about the Golfers Because there's such an iconic car and
- 12:29Speaker 1: they're a great car. I do like them. I don't
- 12:31Speaker 1: know why they've got this kind of vibe of we've
- 12:34Speaker 1: got to be understated in the way we look, you
- 12:37Speaker 1: know what I mean?
- 12:38Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I think they leave the overstated stuff to
- 12:41Speaker 3: Audi they're just kind of sticking with Volkswagen sort of being.
- 12:47Speaker 1: But the GTI is I would argue that that's more
- 12:51Speaker 1: I guess at Landish if you like, a lot more
- 12:54Speaker 1: sort of expressive than the.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know the golfers like the executive sort
- 13:00Speaker 3: of thing. Really I think so, yeah, thank you wull shit.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Yeah there's that. I don't know who's that. Yeah, so
- 13:09Speaker 1: let me know. Hey. By the way, we did touch
- 13:11Speaker 1: on the Seal Performance being a great car. Our good
- 13:15Speaker 1: friends at ev Direct and by d Oh geez. The
- 13:20Speaker 1: tabloids have gone berserk. They've the mummy and dad have
- 13:24Speaker 1: split split up. I wonder who's taken the kids. I
- 13:27Speaker 1: wonder if the cops were called. I wonder if it
- 13:30Speaker 1: was an argument on the front lawn, just like well,
- 13:35Speaker 1: fuck you, fuck youa nah, gone take your bloody. This
- 13:39Speaker 1: wouldn't have happened with if you didn't do the shark
- 13:42Speaker 1: Si dickhead Gordon, I'm taking the dolphin. Yes. So, just
- 13:48Speaker 1: for people's background, EV Direct kind of brought by d
- 13:52Speaker 1: to Australia.
- 13:53Speaker 3: They were the sort of importer and they set up
- 13:56Speaker 3: the infrastructure and got everything ready by proper, then came
- 14:01Speaker 3: to Australia. And there was also then Eagers, who is
- 14:05Speaker 3: a big dealer group, who had an investment in EV Direct.
- 14:07Speaker 1: So can I just pause this When you said BYD
- 14:10Speaker 1: came to Australia, does that mean you're talking about their
- 14:12Speaker 1: flagship stores.
- 14:15Speaker 3: Look, I don't know the real ins and outs of
- 14:18Speaker 3: it all. I'm not entirely sure how that all worked.
- 14:21Speaker 1: But what they're doing now is basically BYD proper.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Is taking over importing these cars and being the point
- 14:29Speaker 3: of call for all this stuff, running the marketing, doing.
- 14:32Speaker 1: The full distributors. They're doing absolutely everything. Yeah, but there's.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Now a separate company called EV Dealer Group, which is
- 14:40Speaker 3: basically a venture where Egers owns eighty percent of it.
- 14:45Speaker 3: EV Direct owns twenty percent of it. And this is
- 14:50Speaker 3: basically a five year agreement between by D Australia and
- 14:53Speaker 3: Eagers to then distribute these cars through the existing dealerships.
- 15:00Speaker 1: It is confusing.
- 15:00Speaker 3: And one thing I noticed down in Geelong they've got
- 15:03Speaker 3: Mercedes Benz dealer. And you know, because Mercedes bens has
- 15:06Speaker 3: been pretty quiet in terms of sales.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Wow, I'm not sad about that at all.
- 15:12Speaker 3: So they're basically now half of the dealership as a
- 15:16Speaker 3: BYD dealer, but it's not like separated.
- 15:19Speaker 1: So all you see is the building that is Mercedes Benz.
- 15:22Speaker 3: The front half is BYD, the road facing half, and
- 15:25Speaker 3: then the back half is Mercedes bens but it's all
- 15:27Speaker 3: in the same building.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Oh yes, they do that in Gosford as well. With Landrovers.
- 15:33Speaker 1: The front it's it's very split, I know, half of it.
- 15:37Speaker 1: And it's weird because Landrover are kind of tucked away
- 15:40Speaker 1: in the corner and then there's like this there. When
- 15:43Speaker 1: BYD was starting, it was odd. It was like this
- 15:46Speaker 1: one car and then they had this one pimply representative
- 15:50Speaker 1: kid like, well, do you want to show you're interested
- 15:52Speaker 1: a bow? I do? Do you remember they were delivering
- 15:55Speaker 1: them through my car? Yeah? Oh that was a hot mean,
- 15:58Speaker 1: it wasn't it. I mean what I know, who come
- 16:00Speaker 1: up with that stupid idea? But I think you've got
- 16:03Speaker 1: a fair idea.
- 16:04Speaker 3: But yeah, it's like it's it's so weird because normally
- 16:08Speaker 3: what a car company would do is just go, hey,
- 16:10Speaker 3: I'm going to sell cars in Australia. But for whatever reason,
- 16:12Speaker 3: it has just not gone that way. And I sense
- 16:14Speaker 3: from the outside that there is tension between EV Director
- 16:19Speaker 3: and BYD because you never knew who to talk to.
- 16:23Speaker 1: It's like, do I talk to that guy to get
- 16:25Speaker 1: the thing I need? Or to talk to that guy?
- 16:26Speaker 1: Well that's you though, that's you in the in the
- 16:28Speaker 1: car game. Yeah, but how does it work with a customer?
- 16:31Speaker 1: Who are they?
- 16:31Speaker 3: Who runs the call center when something goes wrong? Is
- 16:33Speaker 3: it EV Direct? Is it BYD who services the car?
- 16:37Speaker 3: Who do I pay my money to?
- 16:38Speaker 1: Who do I like?
- 16:39Speaker 3: There's all these weird questions. So it's I'm glad that
- 16:41Speaker 3: this has now kind of resolved here. And look they've
- 16:44Speaker 3: sent there's a whole bunch of quotes that have come through,
- 16:47Speaker 3: and everyone's back padding each other and it's all very complimentary.
- 16:50Speaker 3: But I think behind the scenes it would be a
- 16:53Speaker 3: very different story.
- 16:54Speaker 1: It will be interesting to see how this plays out too.
- 16:58Speaker 1: I wonder if EV Direct would take on other car companies.
- 17:01Speaker 1: I remember when we had Luke on, he was like
- 17:05Speaker 1: he had no interest in that sort of thing, so
- 17:08Speaker 1: judging by that, and he was really complimentary brand, but
- 17:14Speaker 1: he was he'swall black and Blue, Like they'd never take
- 17:18Speaker 1: on any other brands, and they were really happy with DDS.
- 17:20Speaker 3: Why would you bring another like bringing another big brand in. Now,
- 17:24Speaker 3: there's so many out there that people have never heard of,
- 17:26Speaker 3: so why would you bring in another one. BYD got
- 17:29Speaker 3: runs on the board early, so's MG, so's GWM. I
- 17:32Speaker 3: think they're all well established. Now you've got all these
- 17:35Speaker 3: other brands that have come in that you don't really
- 17:37Speaker 3: sort of know about, that are trying to sell cars,
- 17:39Speaker 3: and it's just a confusing concoction.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I kind of also think that surely they would have
- 17:45Speaker 1: expected something like this eventually, because they obviously had been
- 17:51Speaker 1: working with BYD for years to get something like this together.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Then they brought the cars out here and they've done
- 17:58Speaker 1: a brilliant job, like BYD is flourished in Australia, done
- 18:01Speaker 1: really really well, and you know, now it's kind of
- 18:06Speaker 1: got to a point where it's like, hey, cool, thanks
- 18:08Speaker 1: for setting us up. We're kicking ass. Will take it
- 18:10Speaker 1: from here, Champ. But that's the thing.
- 18:11Speaker 3: They've taken all the risk, So I think it is
- 18:13Speaker 3: fair that they've been paid out, and they would have
- 18:15Speaker 3: been paid out very handsomely in the background, because the
- 18:18Speaker 3: Eagers investment in ev Direct was in the tens of
- 18:20Speaker 3: millions from memory, so for BYD to basically take over.
- 18:24Speaker 3: Now they would have to, you know, buy that over.
- 18:29Speaker 3: I would have thought so it would have cost a
- 18:31Speaker 3: lot of money. So someone's made a lot of money
- 18:32Speaker 3: out of this. So it's just interesting, you know, very interesting.
- 18:37Speaker 1: Have you had an any dealings with the Shark sex
- 18:40Speaker 1: of recent times. Yes, we did our updated video where
- 18:43Speaker 1: we took it back. Yeah, yeah, covered that. It was
- 18:47Speaker 1: still well it really isn't a shitcart. No, it'sat it's
- 18:52Speaker 1: great for day to day, but just don't take it
- 18:54Speaker 1: off road, yeah, for that sort of stuff.
- 18:55Speaker 3: And since then there's just been people trying to just
- 18:58Speaker 3: desperately demonstrate how good it is road and just failing miserably.
- 19:01Speaker 3: And it's like, it's fine, it doesn't have to be that,
- 19:03Speaker 3: and I don't care if it is or isn't, but
- 19:05Speaker 3: it's not.
- 19:06Speaker 1: And that's that. What's that car that I feel like
- 19:09Speaker 1: it could be from Deep? It was a weird. It
- 19:12Speaker 1: was almost like this car ute hybrid. Oh the yeah,
- 19:16Speaker 1: I'm prett sure that was a deep hell like I
- 19:18Speaker 1: had the tray cover but yeah, it was kind of
- 19:20Speaker 1: like a and I'm pretty sure it's coming to Australia,
- 19:23Speaker 1: in fact, I know it is, but ah, god, I
- 19:26Speaker 1: can't remember, and I was really interested to know if
- 19:30Speaker 1: the EO cover right, that cover can be taken up
- 19:34Speaker 1: full time and you can use it as a tray.
- 19:36Speaker 1: I don't actually think it can. I think it's just.
- 19:39Speaker 3: I think you could, Like I'm looking at pictures of
- 19:41Speaker 3: it here, and it seems to be usable with the
- 19:44Speaker 3: cover gone.
- 19:46Speaker 1: It's an interesting, interesting market at the moment. So yeah,
- 19:49Speaker 1: it's I feel like we're in a We're in a
- 19:52Speaker 1: time where there's a lot of choice. There's the ice cars,
- 19:57Speaker 1: there's the hybrids, and then there's the EV. I think
- 20:00Speaker 1: at one stage we thought, look, EV's are just gonna
- 20:02Speaker 1: take over, and then I think, no, no, I reckon
- 20:07Speaker 1: hybrids will be sort of hot property moving forward. I
- 20:10Speaker 1: think they sort of overcooked it with full EV and
- 20:12Speaker 1: now like with all these Chinese cars coming in, these
- 20:15Speaker 1: EV's coming in, it's hard to know. There's so much
- 20:17Speaker 1: choice going on. You just went to the Shanghai Motor Show. Yeah,
- 20:20Speaker 1: so Shanghai and Beijing alternate. Did you blend in because
- 20:24Speaker 1: you kind of look a little bit.
- 20:26Speaker 3: I'm going to tell you some funny things in a minute,
- 20:28Speaker 3: So let me run you through the show and the scale.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Of it first, you do that while they eat some
- 20:33Speaker 1: while you eat some more.
- 20:35Speaker 3: So basically Shanghai Motor Show is enormous and if you
- 20:39Speaker 3: look at motor shows in Europe, they're all dead, like
- 20:42Speaker 3: I mean that, no one really does motor shows anymore,
- 20:44Speaker 3: and if they do, not many people go there. China,
- 20:46Speaker 3: on the other hand, is insane. So the first two
- 20:49Speaker 3: or three days are media only, and there was tens
- 20:51Speaker 3: of thousands of people there for the media days only.
- 20:54Speaker 3: Throughout the course of the two weeks the show is running.
- 20:57Speaker 3: They expect over a million people to come through over
- 21:01Speaker 3: three days over the month that the show is on.
- 21:05Speaker 1: For the public.
- 21:05Speaker 3: That's decent now, and it is enormous. It's cross eight
- 21:08Speaker 3: massive halls. Each hall has like an upstairs and a downstairs.
- 21:12Speaker 3: It is on another level and there's just so much
- 21:16Speaker 3: stuff that blew me away. So one of the big
- 21:18Speaker 3: things over there at the moment is live streaming. So
- 21:20Speaker 3: at pretty much every stand, you had a line of
- 21:24Speaker 3: maybe ten people all dressed kind of the same with
- 21:29Speaker 3: a phone on a tripod facing the car. Then they
- 21:32Speaker 3: would put their hands in front of the phone and
- 21:33Speaker 3: would be doing like hand gestures and would just be talking.
- 21:37Speaker 3: At this for like an hour straight, and what they
- 21:40Speaker 3: were doing was live streaming the car that was just
- 21:43Speaker 3: revealed so that you could buy it. And then they
- 21:45Speaker 3: get a commission and they all work for a company
- 21:48Speaker 3: where this company is getting commission for each car they sell,
- 21:52Speaker 3: and it.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Was so funny. Well, I don't understand. So a car
- 21:55Speaker 1: has just been revealed and they're standing in front live
- 21:59Speaker 1: streaming it, and then what happens? How are they selling cars?
- 22:02Speaker 3: But you go by it because everything also in China
- 22:06Speaker 3: has done through like wa Chat, so we chat is
- 22:10Speaker 3: not only a messaging platform, but it's a payments platform.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Everyone has their websites and their portals on there. You
- 22:15Speaker 3: book an uber or dd through there, like it is insane.
- 22:18Speaker 3: But then they have these people that are live streaming,
- 22:21Speaker 3: and what would happen is because they're all lined up,
- 22:24Speaker 3: one would move a little closer and all of a
- 22:27Speaker 3: sudden they would be in the shot of the next.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Guy, and they're all yelling because they're just so fucking
- 22:30Speaker 1: loud in there.
- 22:31Speaker 3: Then the next guy would move in and then all
- 22:33Speaker 3: of a sudden, they're all like a meter away from
- 22:36Speaker 3: the car because none of them wanted to be in
- 22:39Speaker 3: others shots. But because one did it, they all had
- 22:42Speaker 3: to do it. It was the most bizarre thing I've
- 22:45Speaker 3: ever seen.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Wow, I'd love to kind of get on one of
- 22:49Speaker 1: these live chains and work out what they're doing. So
- 22:51Speaker 1: they're standing in front of the car, they're talking in
- 22:52Speaker 1: the public, Hey if you want to talking stats, Yeah,
- 22:55Speaker 1: it's live comments are streaming, So they would be answering
- 22:58Speaker 1: questions and they'd be just NonStop a car that's just
- 23:01Speaker 1: been released. That's a pretty incredible skill.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Yeah, But they would then have a second phone in
- 23:05Speaker 3: their hands that you couldn't see on camera that was
- 23:08Speaker 3: all the specs, so that they could just rifle through it.
- 23:10Speaker 3: But they were talking a million miles an hour and
- 23:12Speaker 3: for hours straight. It was just unbelievable. So we were
- 23:15Speaker 3: being hosted by GWM and GW and revealed a V
- 23:20Speaker 3: eight which in yeah in the tank is insane.
- 23:23Speaker 1: So turbocharged V eight that looked cool. Crazy.
- 23:26Speaker 3: So it's so cool to see that the car development
- 23:29Speaker 3: in China has not slowed down and to the point
- 23:32Speaker 3: where last time I was in Shanghai, which is probably
- 23:34Speaker 3: ten years ago, everyone was just driving European cars. They're
- 23:38Speaker 3: all just because that was the status thing. And then
- 23:40Speaker 3: the guys that couldn't afford European cars, we're just driving cheap,
- 23:43Speaker 3: shitty Chinese cars, which back then weren't very good. Now
- 23:46Speaker 3: all of the European cars are ten years old. No
- 23:49Speaker 3: one is really driving European cars. They're all driving their
- 23:52Speaker 3: national product. And some of them are spending like two
- 23:55Speaker 3: or three hundred thousand dollars on stuff like that yangwang
- 23:57Speaker 3: U nine.
- 23:58Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and that's nice.
- 24:00Speaker 3: And is that a derivative of BYD Yeah, that's a
- 24:03Speaker 3: bid division. So some of the other stuff at the
- 24:06Speaker 3: show that blew me away BYD and Cattle. They sort
- 24:10Speaker 3: of showcase this battery charging technology that basically will give
- 24:13Speaker 3: you like three or four hundred kilometers of charging range
- 24:15Speaker 3: within three or four minutes. Wow, which was really cool
- 24:19Speaker 3: to see. But the thing is with them as well.
- 24:21Speaker 3: This isn't like the Europeans where they go, oh, we're
- 24:23Speaker 3: testing a prototype car with solid state batteries. It'll go
- 24:27Speaker 3: on sale in twenty twenty nine. These guys are like,
- 24:29Speaker 3: we've got this battery here on show, it's on sale
- 24:31Speaker 3: from next month in that car. It's crazy insane, And
- 24:36Speaker 3: it was just the scale and the pace at which
- 24:38Speaker 3: they're working that has completely blown me away.
- 24:43Speaker 1: So now here's some weird, weird stuff.
- 24:45Speaker 3: So someone came up to me and they're like, oh,
- 24:48Speaker 3: can you do can you do an interview for people
- 24:52Speaker 3: at GWM? And I was like, yeah, what about Oh
- 24:55Speaker 3: let's ask you some general questions and I was like yeah,
- 24:57Speaker 3: no drums and like, can you just be here at
- 24:58Speaker 3: eleven so rock. This dude comes up to me. He
- 25:02Speaker 3: gives me this five pages of fucking words, so question
- 25:08Speaker 3: and then an answer, but the answer was like ten paragraphs.
- 25:11Speaker 1: And I'm like, the fuck is this?
- 25:12Speaker 3: And he goes, I just need you to recite all
- 25:15Speaker 3: of this and I'm like when and he goes on
- 25:18Speaker 3: the video interview. I'm like, I can't learn all of
- 25:21Speaker 3: this and I hadn't read it at this point and
- 25:22Speaker 3: he goes, oh, and it's live as well, and I'm
- 25:24Speaker 3: like what the fuck?
- 25:26Speaker 1: And I said to him, so it's GWM, but who
- 25:29Speaker 1: was the interview with? Well, it was being streamed on
- 25:31Speaker 1: their global social media. Oh my god.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Reading this and the question was what do you think
- 25:38Speaker 3: of GWM? And it was all this rambling stuff and
- 25:40Speaker 3: then it was like it provides me inspiration and it
- 25:44Speaker 3: is one of the world's best car brands. I'm like,
- 25:46Speaker 3: the guy's fucking serious, and I said, I'm not going
- 25:49Speaker 3: to be reading this happy to be interviewed.
- 25:51Speaker 1: So it did come. He's what you should have said. Yes,
- 25:55Speaker 1: it emmitts her they make Precision lubric and Blue brookhems.
- 26:00Speaker 1: And I couldn't say better myself, but you could.
- 26:03Speaker 3: Yeah, so this dude has I saw the trail of
- 26:07Speaker 3: cameras coming and they said just stand here and look
- 26:09Speaker 3: surprised when he comes up to you.
- 26:11Speaker 1: I was like, okay, what so saw this jude?
- 26:16Speaker 2: See you?
- 26:17Speaker 3: Ronald heard his accent and it was an English accent.
- 26:21Speaker 3: So when he started talking to me, I was just
- 26:24Speaker 3: trying to be a bit funny and talk about Australian stuff,
- 26:27Speaker 3: and I'm looking at this guy.
- 26:28Speaker 1: I'm like, he has no idea what I'm talking.
- 26:30Speaker 3: Jokes are dying in And then we get through this
- 26:34Speaker 3: this interview and then I'm like, what the fuck just happened?
- 26:36Speaker 3: And someone said to me, they hire all these white
- 26:41Speaker 3: Russian guys who put on English accents to make it
- 26:45Speaker 3: look posh.
- 26:46Speaker 1: He was an actor.
- 26:48Speaker 3: I don't know, but it made sense when I was
- 26:51Speaker 3: talking about all this English Australia type stuff that he
- 26:54Speaker 3: had no idea about.
- 26:55Speaker 1: The guy has probably never been to Australia or the UK. Yeah, No,
- 27:00Speaker 1: it was weird.
- 27:00Speaker 3: And then throughout the show I would randomly have people
- 27:03Speaker 3: come up to me and ask me for interviews. Oh
- 27:05Speaker 3: what do you think of this our brand? What do
- 27:08Speaker 3: you think of the styling? And you would just go
- 27:11Speaker 3: through and have all of these random interviews with people
- 27:13Speaker 3: and you don't know where it is. One time this
- 27:15Speaker 3: dude comes up and he's like, Oh, what do you
- 27:16Speaker 3: think of the show? Another Russian English guy? And then
- 27:19Speaker 3: in the background I could see the girl filming on.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Her phone, but he had not mentioned that. I just
- 27:25Speaker 1: thought he came up to chat to me.
- 27:27Speaker 3: I'm like, dude, I can see her filming, I can
- 27:29Speaker 3: see the microphone on you at least say hey, do
- 27:32Speaker 3: you want to be part of this?
- 27:33Speaker 1: Oh? Did you say that to him? No? But I
- 27:36Speaker 1: was like it was just weird.
- 27:37Speaker 3: So it was the whole thing to me blew me away.
- 27:40Speaker 3: And I can see that they're producing all these cars,
- 27:43Speaker 3: but they're trying to legitimize themselves by employing these white
- 27:48Speaker 3: guys to do the fronting of everything. They're trying to
- 27:50Speaker 3: break through to a Western World, which I can't of get.
- 27:53Speaker 3: It is a different way to do things. And to
- 27:55Speaker 3: be honest, I could see as well. Again because we
- 27:58Speaker 3: were with g WM. We went to all their cars
- 28:01Speaker 3: and they had like twelve or fifteen cars for us
- 28:03Speaker 3: to drive, and we rock up to a fucking car
- 28:07Speaker 3: park and I'm like, old, what is this? And it
- 28:10Speaker 3: was literally a car park with all these slalem courses
- 28:12Speaker 3: and I'm.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Like, what is this? Oh, like a like a like
- 28:17Speaker 1: a driver defense kind of training set of thing, you know,
- 28:21Speaker 1: like a like a shopping center car park.
- 28:23Speaker 3: We had no specs on any of these cars, so
- 28:25Speaker 3: I'm frantically googling half of these cars are and we
- 28:29Speaker 3: then spend fifteen seconds behind the wheel doing this slalem
- 28:33Speaker 3: and they just rush up to.
- 28:34Speaker 1: You what did you think?
- 28:35Speaker 3: And I'm like it had fuck loads of body roll
- 28:37Speaker 3: and understeered a lot. Yeah, because it's a giant four
- 28:41Speaker 3: wheel drive. It was like an a ladder frame suv.
- 28:43Speaker 3: I'm like, you've set up.
- 28:44Speaker 1: A fucking slalem course here? What did you expect to happen?
- 28:48Speaker 1: I just love it if you like hit some poor
- 28:50Speaker 1: old bird just carrying the shopping to a car.
- 28:54Speaker 3: Yeah, it's this is just and I can see why
- 28:56Speaker 3: they did it, Like you can't just drive on the
- 28:58Speaker 3: road in China as a tourist to get like a
- 29:00Speaker 3: tourist license which involves a test our group. With GWM
- 29:05Speaker 3: globally had like let's say two hundred journalists there, so
- 29:08Speaker 3: getting two hundred journalists a tourist license would have been impossible.
- 29:12Speaker 3: So I can see that they're working with constraints, but
- 29:14Speaker 3: they still just don't get it. And you could not
- 29:16Speaker 3: get away with doing that with any other brand because
- 29:18Speaker 3: you would get torched. And look, I was upfront with
- 29:20Speaker 3: the video that we shot. I said, listen, this is
- 29:23Speaker 3: all I've got to deal with. I'm going to be
- 29:24Speaker 3: upfront and say that none of this is really all
- 29:26Speaker 3: that impressive because none of it was, to be honest
- 29:29Speaker 3: on that course. So yeah, it was just a hard
- 29:32Speaker 3: thing to work around, and I think they're still a
- 29:34Speaker 3: bit naive in terms of how they're working, but I
- 29:36Speaker 3: will be curious to see how it all pans out.
- 29:38Speaker 3: And just a side note as well, with the fast
- 29:40Speaker 3: battery charging stuff, you know, people look at it and
- 29:43Speaker 3: they're like, oh, you know, EV's about to turn a
- 29:45Speaker 3: corner here with charging but when you actually break it down,
- 29:49Speaker 3: those charges needed a mega water of electricity. Like if
- 29:52Speaker 3: you're setting up a charging station in the middle of
- 29:56Speaker 3: Australia somewhere, or on a high regional highway somewhere.
- 29:59Speaker 1: To be honest, anywhere in regional Australia getting you know
- 30:02Speaker 1: what I mean, ten charges ten megawatts of electricity.
- 30:06Speaker 3: That is a lot of fucking electricity. So people just
- 30:09Speaker 3: don't get that. And that's why I reckon. While it
- 30:12Speaker 3: may work in China where they've got a lot of
- 30:13Speaker 3: diversity in terms of their power sources, and they just
- 30:16Speaker 3: do not stop. It just will not work in Australia
- 30:19Speaker 3: for quite some time.
- 30:20Speaker 1: I wonder how do they get that working over there,
- 30:22Speaker 1: Like they've got so many people, and like China is
- 30:25Speaker 1: on it like people. I just love reading some of
- 30:27Speaker 1: the comments I see in our content.
- 30:30Speaker 3: I'll never buy anything China is. They got no idea
- 30:33Speaker 3: Like go to Shanghai. It is one of the most
- 30:35Speaker 3: advanced places in the world. Yes, they If you drop
- 30:38Speaker 3: yourself in the middle of Shanghai, you wouldn't even need
- 30:41Speaker 3: to know the rest of the world exists. Everything is there.
- 30:44Speaker 3: You want for nothing, and they have everything that you need.
- 30:48Speaker 3: And people who think China is in some economic trouble. No,
- 30:52Speaker 3: not from what I could.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Tell, like it is. This is a bustling place.
- 30:55Speaker 3: Their car market is out of control, so you know,
- 30:58Speaker 3: and they sell over thirty million new cars a year
- 31:01Speaker 3: just in China.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Wow.
- 31:02Speaker 3: So that's why they can get away with making half
- 31:05Speaker 3: of this shit because they know that even if you
- 31:07Speaker 3: only have ten percent of the market, you are bigger
- 31:10Speaker 3: than the entire Australian market times three.
- 31:12Speaker 1: And you look at say BYD who are like one
- 31:15Speaker 1: of the if not the biggest brands saler in China.
- 31:19Speaker 1: I mean, fuck, there's no wonder that they took over
- 31:22Speaker 1: from MeV Directs and they've got money behind them. They
- 31:25Speaker 1: just wanted someone else to kind of look after the
- 31:26Speaker 1: nitty gritty. No, but it's it's exciting stuff.
- 31:29Speaker 3: So funnily enough, this probably won't make any sense to
- 31:32Speaker 3: anyone except people with the tech background. We had to
- 31:34Speaker 3: do like live crosses back to Australia for Sunrise, midday
- 31:39Speaker 3: news and six pm news.
- 31:41Speaker 1: Little celeb you have seen it, yeah, but anyway, have
- 31:45Speaker 1: you got have you got like celeb clout about you? Now?
- 31:48Speaker 1: Do you kind of walk up and just I picture
- 31:51Speaker 1: you walking through TV studios and just slapping the brand
- 31:54Speaker 1: power Chick on the ass get a touts.
- 31:57Speaker 3: But it was interesting over there because for us, for
- 32:00Speaker 3: our live stream equipment to work, you have to have
- 32:03Speaker 3: like it accepts six sim cards. It's called a de geio,
- 32:06Speaker 3: and it was very hard to get data sims over there.
- 32:09Speaker 3: So we had to get one of our locals over
- 32:11Speaker 3: there to get us these data sims, and he had
- 32:13Speaker 3: to pledge to return the data sims when we were done,
- 32:17Speaker 3: because it's like a weird thing for someone to have
- 32:19Speaker 3: more than one data sim. Oh and I couldn't buy
- 32:23Speaker 3: it from a shop, just like a data sim for
- 32:25Speaker 3: a tourist. Oh really, So it was crazy. So it
- 32:28Speaker 3: was touch and go there because one of our live
- 32:30Speaker 3: crosses was like five am, so I had to make
- 32:33Speaker 3: sure it was working and stuff was just a bit
- 32:35Speaker 3: hairy at one point. We've got it working in the end,
- 32:37Speaker 3: but just even the process of doing that, because they've
- 32:39Speaker 3: got all these firewalls in place as well, I'm like,
- 32:41Speaker 3: this may drop out halfway through our live cross honestly,
- 32:46Speaker 3: just insane.
- 32:47Speaker 1: I've been to China once and I loved it. I
- 32:49Speaker 1: was only there for a couple of days. But I
- 32:50Speaker 1: think it's fantastic. I just you're exactly right. There's just
- 32:54Speaker 1: some things that China do better and that we've got
- 32:57Speaker 1: to accept that, like the common section blowing up with
- 32:59Speaker 1: there's bloody Chinese cash. I'm not briefacing building them. They're
- 33:04Speaker 1: not even quality mate stuff like that. The Chinese are
- 33:08Speaker 1: ruling the world with and they can scale and they
- 33:11Speaker 1: should because like they've put a lot of hard work
- 33:14Speaker 1: into it.
- 33:15Speaker 3: They can scale production unlike anyone else in the world.
- 33:18Speaker 3: You can't, like with all this tariff stuff that's going
- 33:20Speaker 3: on at the moment, Apple cannot manufacture iPhones in the
- 33:24Speaker 3: US because A you can't get the parts.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Network in the US. That's not gonna happen.
- 33:29Speaker 3: B The work ethic, Like I know that obviously in
- 33:34Speaker 3: China you've got issues with the way some workers are treated, but.
- 33:38Speaker 1: There's a forest dedicated to it.
- 33:40Speaker 3: But their work ethic is if you are due at work,
- 33:43Speaker 3: you're at work, you work hard all day, and you
- 33:46Speaker 3: go home.
- 33:46Speaker 1: You don't go on working from home to know because.
- 33:49Speaker 3: Whatever, like it's not like and in the States, manufacturing
- 33:54Speaker 3: is hard work because you've got to pay people a
- 33:55Speaker 3: shitload of money. You've got all of these dramas about
- 33:58Speaker 3: people who.
- 33:59Speaker 1: First of all, I wouldn't say it's a shipload of money.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Those people who are working in the Amazon warehouses aren't
- 34:04Speaker 1: eating a shipload of money. I mean, compared to Australia,
- 34:07Speaker 1: they would be.
- 34:08Speaker 3: I mean, the US dollar is so strong that but
- 34:10Speaker 3: equally over there it's quite expensive to live. Right in China,
- 34:13Speaker 3: it is much cheaper to live so obviously they're not
- 34:16Speaker 3: the same thing. But it is the scale of manufacturing
- 34:19Speaker 3: and their work ethic and the ability to source parts
- 34:23Speaker 3: over there that makes huge scale production possible and why
- 34:28Speaker 3: a lot of companies are going to be in trouble
- 34:29Speaker 3: because they've based everything around China and if all of
- 34:32Speaker 3: a sudden you get all these tariffs slapped on stuff,
- 34:34Speaker 3: you no longer have a business.
- 34:36Speaker 1: So yeah, but the culture is different. Yeah, and that's
- 34:41Speaker 1: a really good point. That's pretty much exactly why they're
- 34:44Speaker 1: a powerhouse with this sort of stuff. Except when it
- 34:49Speaker 1: comes to a little car that I test drove to
- 34:52Speaker 1: the point where I hated it so much i returned it.
- 34:57Speaker 1: After two days. They're like, oh, yeah, you're back, And
- 35:02Speaker 1: I said, just take it, please, just take it. This
- 35:04Speaker 1: car isn't finished. I'm talking about the Leap Motor C ten.
- 35:09Speaker 1: It's a stupid name. To start with a stupid name.
- 35:11Speaker 1: No matter where you look at it, Leap Motor just
- 35:14Speaker 1: sounds like some sort of fucking learning game for children.
- 35:19Speaker 1: And seed ten and sound two. Yeah, seed ten. I
- 35:22Speaker 1: don't know, it just sounds so clinical. So yeah, Leap
- 35:25Speaker 1: Motor C ten forty five thousand to forty nine eight
- 35:30Speaker 1: like that little touch. Depending on the variant, I will
- 35:33Speaker 1: say the best thing about this car is the way
- 35:35Speaker 1: it looking. What's that handing it back? Well, yeah, and
- 35:38Speaker 1: it's flicking back. I was going to say the keys,
- 35:39Speaker 1: but it doesn't even come with keys. It's actually a
- 35:42Speaker 1: pretty good looking car. I will say that straight up.
- 35:44Speaker 1: It looks really good. The one thing I found so
- 35:46Speaker 1: weird was it's got this light bar up the front.
- 35:50Speaker 1: But you only get that in like Chinese models or overseas.
- 35:54Speaker 1: It didn't make it past the Australian test or whatever.
- 35:58Speaker 1: But isn't that so old because there's so many cars
- 36:01Speaker 1: with that front light bar here there's rules around distances
- 36:05Speaker 1: of light lights from the center of the car, or
- 36:09Speaker 1: there's some stupid rules.
- 36:10Speaker 3: Around that are just and this is you know you
- 36:13Speaker 3: look at the side note the new model, Why is
- 36:15Speaker 3: just that can pass it?
- 36:17Speaker 1: I couldn't understand why this could. Design rules are so dumb.
- 36:19Speaker 3: They just have all of these idiotic things that don't
- 36:22Speaker 3: exist anywhere else in the world.
- 36:23Speaker 1: So twenty inchalloys, five hundred and eighty lead boot space,
- 36:27Speaker 1: it's got a decent bum on it up to four
- 36:30Speaker 1: hundred and twenty four kilometers in WLTP. Here's where it
- 36:35Speaker 1: started to go wrong. So the key is not a key,
- 36:39Speaker 1: it's a card or you can use your phone. So
- 36:42Speaker 1: I've got a big problem if like your phone or
- 36:45Speaker 1: a card is your only options to get in the car. Well,
- 36:49Speaker 1: say you're a fucking mum, you've got three kids, You've
- 36:52Speaker 1: just come back from shopping, your phone's dead. All you
- 36:57Speaker 1: want to do is the only way to open this
- 36:59Speaker 1: boot is with the card. So you can't actually do
- 37:03Speaker 1: the whole. It says you can, but you can't because
- 37:05Speaker 1: I tested it. You can do that kind of bootswipe
- 37:07Speaker 1: under the car. When so say you're fishing around in
- 37:11Speaker 1: your handbag, you've got no proximity sensing key. You've got
- 37:16Speaker 1: to get this fucking card out and tap the side mirror.
- 37:18Speaker 3: No, but I disagree because I had a Tesla for
- 37:21Speaker 3: five years and never had an issue with my phone
- 37:24Speaker 3: being flat. But if you did, you just go to
- 37:27Speaker 3: the card. Your phone will work all the time.
- 37:30Speaker 1: Yeah, but if you've got the card, would that car
- 37:33Speaker 1: open BI proximity?
- 37:35Speaker 3: No, but your phone has used the rest of the time,
- 37:38Speaker 3: So why would you then lug around a key. I
- 37:39Speaker 3: think key's a complete waste of time, Like they're just pointless.
- 37:42Speaker 3: If you can do it with your phone, which you
- 37:43Speaker 3: always have in your.
- 37:44Speaker 1: Pocket, say your phone's dead, you can log into the
- 37:47Speaker 1: app and unlock the car from any other phone or
- 37:49Speaker 1: use the card. That sounds like a massive dick around.
- 37:52Speaker 1: I'd never once had that happen to me in five
- 37:54Speaker 1: years of owning the car. Well, you're a nerd with
- 37:56Speaker 1: a fully charged phone.
- 37:57Speaker 3: And I'll say as well, Apple, and this won't work
- 38:01Speaker 3: if it's an app. But Apple Key, which they use
- 38:04Speaker 3: for BMW's and a couple of other brands, now they
- 38:06Speaker 3: actually if your phone does die, there's a reserve battery
- 38:09Speaker 3: capacity for.
- 38:10Speaker 1: The key work. Oh okay, so there's fixes for that
- 38:12Speaker 1: as well. Look, I just found it an absolute punish
- 38:14Speaker 1: I I just didn't enjoy it whatsoever.
- 38:17Speaker 3: Yeah, but I just vastic I'll say, is if you
- 38:19Speaker 3: were an owner, you would just have your phone paired.
- 38:21Speaker 1: I don't know, like just using this car to open
- 38:24Speaker 1: the door and you're clicking it on the mirror and
- 38:26Speaker 1: it doesn't work that great to be honest, like you're
- 38:28Speaker 1: really tapping this thing away. It's like it's still not opening. Also,
- 38:32Speaker 1: I found like the other only way to open the
- 38:35Speaker 1: boot was to get in the car, use the infotainment
- 38:39Speaker 1: and click on the boot button. It was just like,
- 38:41Speaker 1: don't do that. At least the key that you hate
- 38:44Speaker 1: so much has fucking everything on it.
- 38:46Speaker 3: Well, yes, I've unfortunately my mystery car from herts as
- 38:49Speaker 3: a shipbox Pollstar, and that's got the same thing where
- 38:51Speaker 3: the boot. I just cannot figure out how to open
- 38:54Speaker 3: it easily without having to use the key. There might
- 38:57Speaker 3: be a button there somewhere, but I couldn't find it
- 38:58Speaker 3: and gonna be bothered looking any them, but I already did.
- 39:01Speaker 1: The infotainment doesn't even have Apple car Play or Android Order.
- 39:05Speaker 1: I mean, that's just dumb. The only sort of apps
- 39:07Speaker 1: it has. By the way, footnote, I think I believe
- 39:10Speaker 1: that's coming, but it won't be an update till the
- 39:12Speaker 1: end of the year. So to get home to use
- 39:17Speaker 1: this car's navigation system just was a piece oh shit, massively. Yeah,
- 39:24Speaker 1: it's got Spotify and Zoom, but that's about it. I
- 39:27Speaker 1: just I would rather sit down to take a piss
- 39:31Speaker 1: on an ant's nest then I would sitting in this
- 39:34Speaker 1: fucking leap motor c ten. I don't say that like lightly.
- 39:39Speaker 1: I wanted to like it. I really remember was saying it, going, fuck,
- 39:42Speaker 1: this is really nice looking. It was all black, it
- 39:44Speaker 1: looked really slick. But this is a hard pass. I
- 39:47Speaker 1: wouldn't recommend it at all. I think they undercooked it.
- 39:50Speaker 1: I think it's not ready, and I think that it's
- 39:54Speaker 1: probably got potential. I think they've got a really cool
- 39:57Speaker 1: speck where it's I like a green on the outside
- 39:59Speaker 1: and and a tan on the inside. It's got a
- 40:02Speaker 1: very Donald Trump style tan on the inside. Everything is
- 40:06Speaker 1: this this weird kind of tan. So yeah, it kind
- 40:10Speaker 1: of looks nice, but that's where it ends. For me.
- 40:13Speaker 1: It's a hard pass. I wouldn't recommend it at all. Yeah.
- 40:15Speaker 3: Well, I mean I don't think they've really sold any
- 40:17Speaker 3: of them, so there's not really much to know to
- 40:23Speaker 3: go by. And that's the thing these cars, if they're
- 40:26Speaker 3: not ready and they're not up to scratch, no one
- 40:28Speaker 3: will buy them. Like it's a brand no one has
- 40:30Speaker 3: ever heard of, So why would you go? And now,
- 40:33Speaker 3: just very quietly as well, I'm now looking at a
- 40:35Speaker 3: YouTube video of the Polster to boot opening from the outside.
- 40:38Speaker 3: There was a button buried near the red o plate,
- 40:42Speaker 3: so you're going to stick your finger under there, and
- 40:44Speaker 3: that's where it opens intead somewhere little.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Ridge round in the Polster anyway, it's a poster five
- 40:51Speaker 1: coming out posta. Yeah, who cares? I reckon, they're a
- 40:55Speaker 1: great looking car. We're so divided on the Polster.
- 40:58Speaker 3: I would just never own one because they horrifically expensive
- 41:01Speaker 3: and depreciate terribly and have built like shit?
- 41:04Speaker 1: Are they built like shit? So the last one that I.
- 41:06Speaker 3: Drove was a horror show. It should not have left
- 41:08Speaker 3: the showroom. It was like your elite motor experience.
- 41:11Speaker 1: I just found them a little bit just mundane and clinical.
- 41:17Speaker 1: Like the inside. I remember thinking it's it's got this
- 41:20Speaker 1: kind of scandy feel about it, you know, with their
- 41:23Speaker 1: yellow handy. Yes, it's got this yeah scandy via China.
- 41:28Speaker 1: It's got this kind of yellow seatbelt vibe going on.
- 41:30Speaker 1: I was like, it's you know, it's it basically looks
- 41:33Speaker 1: like an accountant's car who fills his shitty little one
- 41:36Speaker 1: bedroom apartment with Ikea furniture. That's who would buy that car.
- 41:40Speaker 1: But they're a nice looking car, pavel A, he's a
- 41:45Speaker 1: little bitch. He doesn't lack posta too. You've worked with
- 41:53Speaker 1: it a Mitsu before at their launch event, right, I did,
- 41:55Speaker 1: I did, mate, I went to their launch event. I
- 41:57Speaker 1: am seated. Actually your boy am seated. Said the whole
- 42:00Speaker 1: thing very nice, delicious Japanese restaurant. But I'm really impressed.
- 42:05Speaker 1: I'm really impressed. These guys have been leaders in oil
- 42:08Speaker 1: innovation for over a century. You know, they're the ones
- 42:11Speaker 1: trusted by Toyota and Mazda to deliver precision engineered oils
- 42:16Speaker 1: straight from the factory, and now now they are bringing
- 42:20Speaker 1: the same expertise to ossie drivers. What stood out to
- 42:24Speaker 1: you the most, well, A lot did, actually, Pavlo, thank
- 42:27Speaker 1: you for asking that non prompted question, and it was
- 42:30Speaker 1: their nanotailored oil, which is why we're here, because this
- 42:33Speaker 1: stuff is next level, and now they don't just make
- 42:35Speaker 1: generic who haa products. No, no, not these guys. Every
- 42:40Speaker 1: formula is designed with purpose. For example, let me tell
- 42:43Speaker 1: you something. The IFG three, Oh, this stuff is perfect
- 42:48Speaker 1: for city driving. This is what you want for city driving.
- 42:51Speaker 1: This is your stop start traffic, the stuff that puts
- 42:54Speaker 1: stress on your engine. But then there's the IFG seven,
- 42:57Speaker 1: This is the stuff for your beast pavlay the high
- 43:01Speaker 1: performance vehicles. Seven layers of protection seven. I sound a
- 43:05Speaker 1: bit New Zealand. Seven layers of protection Anyway, they've got
- 43:09Speaker 1: no cleansing tech. It stops oil breakdown and it even
- 43:13Speaker 1: just sorts it in the harshest condition. So if you're
- 43:17Speaker 1: driving a Japanese car, the IFG five, oh, that stuff
- 43:21Speaker 1: is build for precision engineered engines. It's offering five layers
- 43:25Speaker 1: of protection to keep your engine clean and running smoothly.
- 43:29Speaker 1: So that sounds like a lot of attention to detail.
- 43:31Speaker 1: Oh so much detail, so much I nearly forgot it all.
- 43:35Speaker 1: But the IOG seven isn't just oil. Just know that,
- 43:38Speaker 1: because it's like giving your engine a custom suit of armor,
- 43:41Speaker 1: like a little massage. As well. It doesn't just protect
- 43:44Speaker 1: your engine, it optimizes performance. If you're into keeping your
- 43:48Speaker 1: car in its absolute best nick possible. This is the
- 43:53Speaker 1: oil you want, and now it's easy to get too.
- 43:56Speaker 1: It is very easy. Are you ready for the longest
- 43:58Speaker 1: website I've ever had to reach out? Here? We go
- 44:01Speaker 1: au dot Inamitsu slash no no slash tailored slash oil
- 44:05Speaker 1: dot com. I said to it, amits you, I said, guys,
- 44:09Speaker 1: don't give me that. Let's just tell them that if
- 44:11Speaker 1: they search out it AMDSU Australia on the Googles, they'll
- 44:15Speaker 1: find where they're going. You know what I'm saying. They'll
- 44:17Speaker 1: ship it straight to your door. No fast, top tier
- 44:20Speaker 1: oil wherever you are.
- 44:22Speaker 3: Ok. If it's good enough for manufacturers like Toyota and
- 44:24Speaker 3: mazdav and, it sounds.
- 44:26Speaker 1: Good enough for me. Hmmmm exactly. You know with in AMIDSU,
- 44:30Speaker 1: you're getting oil that's designed to handle whatever you throw
- 44:33Speaker 1: at it. They've been trusted for the best part of
- 44:36Speaker 1: over one hundred years. Yeah, look it, Amitsu taking you
- 44:40Speaker 1: beyond engine protection to real driving excitement. I think I
- 44:44Speaker 1: could read that better. You ready it Omitsu taking you
- 44:49Speaker 1: beyond engine protection to real driving excitement? Was that good? Yeah? Hey, hey,
- 45:00Speaker 1: K four, what do you want to talk about anything else? No? Well,
- 45:04Speaker 1: just KK four, it's like a little underwhelming.
- 45:09Speaker 3: Yeah, and what I found as well, it's got this
- 45:11Speaker 3: throttle hang where but just the breaks are very hard
- 45:14Speaker 3: to apply when when you release the throttle.
- 45:16Speaker 1: Was that on the GT line. Yes, the GT is
- 45:18Speaker 1: the one with the one point five turbo. See, here's
- 45:21Speaker 1: my thing. Like, I love a Kisidan as you know,
- 45:25Speaker 1: a former Stinger owner. I think you jumped to my
- 45:28Speaker 1: Stinger once before. Yeah, we picked up Donnor and we
- 45:34Speaker 1: had a great night at KFC after that. Oh Jesus
- 45:38Speaker 1: O KFC works. She loves a greasy box Donnor, she
- 45:43Speaker 1: loves it, loves a bit of finger licking chicken. Yeah.
- 45:47Speaker 1: So I was really excited about the K four and
- 45:50Speaker 1: I actually think the K four looks really good. Looks
- 45:53Speaker 1: really good, And I reckon the guy who designed this
- 45:57Speaker 1: would probably would have just taken a seat when the
- 46:00Speaker 1: final product was put out after he jumped in it,
- 46:03Speaker 1: because it really does the outside styling such an injustice
- 46:07Speaker 1: when you hop in it's so underwhelming and disappointing. I
- 46:11Speaker 1: was in the Sports Plus spec. Here's my thing. When
- 46:15Speaker 1: you sit in a car and you're getting second from
- 46:18Speaker 1: the top and you're putting your hands on a plastic
- 46:21Speaker 1: steering wheel like grip. Whatever you do if you're a
- 46:25Speaker 1: car company, doesn't matter what speck it is. Put a
- 46:28Speaker 1: little bit of fucking effort into the steering wheel because
- 46:31Speaker 1: guess what, it's the thing that gets touched the most.
- 46:34Speaker 1: Like me, it's it's it needs to look good, you
- 46:38Speaker 1: know what I mean, and it needs to feel good.
- 46:40Speaker 1: And this thing was just it looked it looked good,
- 46:42Speaker 1: but it like, as soon as you touch it, the
- 46:44Speaker 1: whole thing is just one big chunk of plastic. I
- 46:47Speaker 1: love what they've done with the little logo in the
- 46:49Speaker 1: corner and the way they've set everything up, but god,
- 46:52Speaker 1: as soon as you touch it, it's just a cheap hunk.
- 46:55Speaker 1: I'm like, what are they doing? The interior is just bland.
- 47:00Speaker 1: I did think it just had no colors. It's just
- 47:02Speaker 1: like the GT Spec has bigger alloys. I think they
- 47:07Speaker 1: go from eighteen to nineteen. It takes it from the
- 47:09Speaker 1: two liter four cylinder to a one point five turbo
- 47:13Speaker 1: one point six, a little punchy thing which I'll be
- 47:17Speaker 1: curious to jump in. Did that have a I mean,
- 47:18Speaker 1: you might not have anything to compare it to, but that, Yeah, look,
- 47:21Speaker 1: it's it's punchy. It's got an eight speet auto, which
- 47:24Speaker 1: is good. I mean the Serrato this is effectively, I guess,
- 47:27Speaker 1: a new little sort of Serrato GT with a glower.
- 47:31Speaker 1: It's not this is the thing. The Serrato GT was
- 47:34Speaker 1: more sport oriented. This is GT Line. Yes, so it deliberately,
- 47:38Speaker 1: isn't that? Yeah, I don't know. I just I just wasn't.
- 47:44Speaker 1: It's such a shame way with it. I just think
- 47:46Speaker 1: they had so much potential with this, and yeah, they
- 47:50Speaker 1: really got let down by just some key stuff. And yeah,
- 47:54Speaker 1: I just it's disappointing. Outside looks fantastic, inside is lackluster.
- 47:59Speaker 1: Maybe the GT speck is a bit better because I
- 48:02Speaker 1: think you do get the two tone interior and obviously
- 48:05Speaker 1: the punchy engine, but you also get I think it
- 48:07Speaker 1: takes it from around about thirty five thousand to I
- 48:11Speaker 1: want to say forty four.
- 48:13Speaker 3: It is expensive as well. That's the thing that I
- 48:15Speaker 3: was probably surprised with the most that it's a lot
- 48:18Speaker 3: of money for that car. I'm just having a look
- 48:21Speaker 3: at prices now.
- 48:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 48:22Speaker 3: GT Line is drive away forty seven grand. It's a
- 48:25Speaker 3: lot of money. And that's the thing when kiya get
- 48:27Speaker 3: it right.
- 48:28Speaker 1: They really get it right, like they put together a
- 48:30Speaker 1: really solid car and this just unfortunately was not it.
- 48:34Speaker 1: This is not it. So what else is what's coming
- 48:40Speaker 1: up on your horizon? Going to India?
- 48:44Speaker 3: Oh?
- 48:44Speaker 1: Yeah, are you're testing I'm Ahindra or is it a launch?
- 48:47Speaker 1: Is it a random launch in India? Yeah, it's a
- 48:50Speaker 1: new Leap motor c C eleven.
- 48:53Speaker 3: Yeah, it's going to be in India, which will be interesting.
- 48:56Speaker 3: And then yeah, then off to the States and then
- 49:01Speaker 3: off to Europe.
- 49:02Speaker 1: So I'm going to be busy cagey about that India trip. Yeah,
- 49:06Speaker 1: there's some secret stuff with him. He's a he's got
- 49:11Speaker 1: a secret Indian lover over there. His name is his
- 49:16Speaker 1: name is? His name is Rug and Josh yeah all
- 49:20Speaker 1: over that. Yeah. Yeah, he really courage your flavor. Oh yes, ma'am,
- 49:24Speaker 1: check out Pavlo's little puppa dumb well listen, have fun
- 49:31Speaker 1: in India. Yeah, try not to get dissonery, which is
- 49:35Speaker 1: I think a diarrhea an old term for diarrhea.
- 49:39Speaker 3: Look, I'm actually have a pretty strong stumming I can.
- 49:43Speaker 3: My wife hates this about me. When we went to
- 49:45Speaker 3: Ballei ages ago when we were younger, I would just
- 49:47Speaker 3: eat street food and just drink water from the tap
- 49:50Speaker 3: and stuff.
- 49:51Speaker 1: And she would just be like, you'd just be licking
- 49:53Speaker 1: handrails in the shopping center. And I say shopping center
- 49:56Speaker 1: very largely, it's more of a local market.
- 49:59Speaker 3: Yeah, she was like, I just hope you ship yourself
- 50:02Speaker 3: on the way back to the hotel.
- 50:04Speaker 1: Just happened. Touch with it. I'll be in India. Yeah,
