- 0:22SPEAKER_00: If you've ever been hiking on a trail in the woods, you've seen those markers that show your distance and they keep you headed in the right direction.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: The purpose of those signs is to keep you from getting lost and to guide you along the way.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: You know, there are similar signs in the writer's life.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Those markers indicate your direction, but they're not always as obvious as the trail markers you see in the woods.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: One of those signs is your fear, as odd as that may sound.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: So let me ask you, what are you afraid to do in your writing?
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Is it outlining that book?
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Is it contacting that author who you'd like to interview for your book or maybe for a podcast or an article?
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Is it setting up your website or sending off some writing to beta readers?
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Is it making the decision to call yourself a writer in the first place?
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: You know, your biggest writing-related fear is a huge indicator, I believe, of the direction that you should be going.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: When it comes to your creative work, your fear is usually a sign telling you what you should focus on.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Ralph Waldo Emerson, who knew a thing or two about writing, he put it like this: He said, always do what you are afraid to do.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: The truth is that many of us writers do the exact opposite.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: We let our fear push us away from the very thing that we should be doing.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: You don't need to be afraid of fear.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Fear can be your best friend, a friend that guides you toward your creative calling that'll bring you greater success and fulfillment.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: Here's today's challenge.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Think about the thing that you're most afraid to do when it comes to your writing.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: What would it feel like if you took action and ran toward that fear in the next 24 hours?
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: A big thanks to today's sponsor, The Word Wizard.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: You may have written a great book, but it's not ready for publication until it's been in the hands of a master editor.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: That's why my friend Karen Hunsinger, also known as The Word Wizard, is the perfect partner to help you craft the highest quality book possible.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: A great editor doesn't just correct grammar and spelling, they also correct wordiness, shifts in tone and voice, the overuse of particular words, and they also enhance transitions, clarity, and accuracy.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: I've worked with Karen many times, and she is absolutely your secret weapon for crafting an amazing book.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: Make sure to visit Karen Hunsinger.com for a free sample edit.
