- 0:03Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Busy day.
- 0:04Speaker 3: Busy day. Oh, we've got Jason Kipnis to talk Cleveland Guardians. Perfect,
- 0:08Speaker 3: perfect timing. A later show today, so thanks to everyone
- 0:12Speaker 3: for tuning in at 4 o'clock Eastern, and then we'll
- 0:14Speaker 3: do a show later. I actually want to mention that.
- 0:17Speaker 4: The shadows. I can't see because of the shadows, so sorry. Sorry,
- 0:22Speaker 4: the shadows.
- 0:23Speaker 5: You're giving away the theme of the show.
- 0:24Speaker 3: We're going to talk about shadows for two hours and
- 0:27Speaker 3: how baseball players have to just weather the storm of
- 0:32Speaker 3: Playing in the afternoon.
- 0:33Speaker 5: It's so tough. You can't see the baseball.
- 0:37Speaker 4: Scott, before we go, let me just say this, okay? Kip,
- 0:42Speaker 4: congratulations to your Guardians. I'm going to say it. They
- 0:45Speaker 4: beat the White Sox in the regular season. I thought
- 0:47Speaker 4: they'd beat them in the playoffs, meeting the White Sox.
- 0:48Speaker 4: So congratulations.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Listen, you don't hear this very often.
- 0:53Speaker 6: You don't hear this very often, people.
- 0:55Speaker 4: I was wrong, okay? I thought the White Sox would
- 0:57Speaker 4: hold on and win the division. I thought when they
- 1:00Speaker 4: played the Guardians in the postseason– They would beat them.
- 1:03Speaker 6: But you know what?
- 1:04Speaker 4: I tip my cap to the Guardians, to their fans,
- 1:06Speaker 4: and the way they played in the last three games,
- 1:08Speaker 4: and now they're up 2-1.
- 1:09Speaker 6: So here, I'll tell you what I'll do.
- 1:12Speaker 2: You know what?
- 1:14Speaker 6: I'll tip my Guardians cap to you.
- 1:17Speaker 7: You've come a long way, AJ. Can I tell you that?
- 1:20Speaker 7: If nobody else tells you that, you've.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Come a long way.
- 1:22Speaker 7: I'm watching you grow up right in front of our eyes.
- 1:26Speaker 6: Okay. I appreciate that. Thank you.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Thank you. I appreciate that too.
- 1:30Speaker 7: Listen, you're not, you're not, you're not the only one
- 1:32Speaker 7: who thought the white socks were going to hold on
- 1:34Speaker 7: and we're playing better in that division series anyway. So
- 1:36Speaker 7: a lot of people owe apologies.
- 1:41Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:41Speaker 3: My one book that I'm going to write in life,
- 1:43Speaker 3: AJ's book of wrongs, as AJ said, it's not.
- 1:46Speaker 2: A long book. It's going to be a very short book.
- 1:48Speaker 4: If you get to, if you get to like this
- 1:50Speaker 4: book says 101 lessons and from the dugout, if you
- 1:53Speaker 4: get to 101, Scott, you would have done something.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Nah, I'm going to be lucky to get to nine.
- 1:58Speaker 3: I'm just looking for a niner. Nine innings, the whole deal.
- 2:01Speaker 3: All right, we're going to do a postgame show tonight, too.
- 2:03Speaker 3: So make sure you check that out. NLCS game four.
- 2:07Speaker 3: It could be a party for the Milwaukee Brewers. So
- 2:10Speaker 3: make sure you tune in. We'll be on after that one.
- 2:13Speaker 3: And for now, let's get to the ALCS, which just
- 2:16Speaker 3: finished up their game three.
- 2:20Speaker 2: It's a bowl count.
- 2:24Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Time for full count fueled by marathon. The guardians take
- 2:28Speaker 3: the lead in the series two to one Cade Smith
- 2:30Speaker 3: with the four out save to shut it down.
- 2:32Speaker 5: Petey Halpin, the rookie.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Most of you probably don't know who he is, but
- 2:36Speaker 3: get to know him instead of on hell Martinez in
- 2:38Speaker 3: this series. And they press the right button. Steven boat
- 2:41Speaker 3: thriving and the razor down to one in this series. Kip,
- 2:44Speaker 3: you see a lot of Cleveland guardians ball. And I
- 2:46Speaker 3: know this is emotional for you too, with the way
- 2:48Speaker 3: that you've been on a team that's gotten pretty deep
- 2:50Speaker 3: into this thing.
- 2:51Speaker 5: So what did you see today?
- 2:54Speaker 7: You saw guards ball. I mean, this is exactly how
- 2:56Speaker 7: they've been winning. This is exactly the type of the
- 2:57Speaker 7: baseball games that they've been playing. They win low scoring games. Uh,
- 3:01Speaker 7: they have a great bullpen. They kind of lean on
- 3:04Speaker 7: you for nine innings and hopefully can get that big hit. Um,
- 3:07Speaker 7: it's not always the cleanest offensive output ever for them, but, um,
- 3:11Speaker 7: up and down the lineup though, it's like they have
- 3:13Speaker 7: these weird guys who can just, we'll hit home runs
- 3:15Speaker 7: at the right time. And today it was PD Alpen. And, um,
- 3:19Speaker 7: Patrick Bailey the other day, too. He's been getting some
- 3:21Speaker 7: home runs. He's just guys you haven't expected because you're
- 3:23Speaker 7: so worried about Jose and DeLauder up at the front
- 3:25Speaker 7: of the lineup that you might take your foot off
- 3:28Speaker 7: the gas as a pitcher when you get to the bottom,
- 3:30Speaker 7: and that fastball leaks over, and there's that crooked number,
- 3:33Speaker 7: but this is how they win games. Good pitching, good
- 3:36Speaker 7: starting pitching. Gavin Williams was fantastic again, I thought, except
- 3:39Speaker 7: for that one mistake versus Chandler Simpson, and then he
- 3:43Speaker 7: was lights out a second time in a row, and
- 3:45Speaker 7: Turn it over to that really good, really tough bullpen,
- 3:48Speaker 7: and they just shut the door. They were fantastic today.
- 3:50Speaker 4: The bullpen's not good, Kip. It was the shadows, first
- 3:53Speaker 4: of all. It was just the shadows, not the bullpen
- 3:55Speaker 4: being really good.
- 3:57Speaker 2: It could be bullpen. Two things could be true.
- 3:59Speaker 4: True.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I totally agree.
- 4:02Speaker 4: The bullpen's– it's been nasty since game three of the ALDS.
- 4:06Speaker 4: So the bullpen's really nasty. I was surprised Gavin Williams
- 4:10Speaker 4: came up– Came out after five innings. That kind of
- 4:14Speaker 4: surprised me. But then Espino came in and pitched really well. Petey,
- 4:18Speaker 4: I told this story already. Petey Halpin was hitting against
- 4:20Speaker 4: the White Sox, and my wife was watching. And she's like,
- 4:23Speaker 4: this is the best pinch hitter they have, some guy
- 4:25Speaker 4: named Petey, and he hit a home run off Sean
- 4:27Speaker 4: Newcomb to win that game. And then, of course, he
- 4:29Speaker 4: hit the home run today. That was the text I sent,
- 4:31Speaker 4: and then with the bafflet, which was epic. Awesome, awesome bafflet.
- 4:35Speaker 4: Awesome moment for Petey. And just a great job by
- 4:37Speaker 4: the Guardians bullpen. I mean, Chandler Simpson with the huge hit.
- 4:40Speaker 4: And Ray's offense has not been good. Even against the Yankees,
- 4:43Speaker 4: it wasn't great. They just outpitched the Yankees. They haven't
- 4:46Speaker 4: been able to score. Caminero, Yandy's been okay, but Aranda, Caminero, Mesa, Jr.,
- 4:53Speaker 4: those guys haven't really done much for the Guardians, and
- 4:55Speaker 4: those are the kind of the guys that they were
- 4:56Speaker 4: counting on. Even Liam Hicks had the one big hit
- 4:58Speaker 4: in game two. But other than that, he hasn't been
- 5:00Speaker 4: real good in the postseason, so they've got to find
- 5:01Speaker 4: some offense, man.
- 5:04Speaker 7: Do you think there's something to be said about the
- 5:05Speaker 7: time off of the bye in the first round?
- 5:08Speaker 6: No, because they played already. They beat the Yankees. And
- 5:11Speaker 6: by the way. That's right.
- 5:12Speaker 2: That's right.
- 5:13Speaker 6: But, Kip, let me say this, by the way.
- 5:14Speaker 1: That's right.
- 5:15Speaker 4: My bad.
- 5:15Speaker 2: No, no, no.
- 5:16Speaker 4: All four teams that had buys won their series. So
- 5:19Speaker 4: we can kiss that goodbye. All four, literally, goodbye.
- 5:22Speaker 7: Fair.
- 5:23Speaker 4: All four teams that had buys won their series in
- 5:26Speaker 4: the DS. So apparently you can use the rest and
- 5:30Speaker 4: still win. I mean, it's only the losers that always say, oh, man,
- 5:33Speaker 4: we had too much time off. Kip, you know this.
- 5:35Speaker 4: When you played... You wanted the time off. You wanted
- 5:39Speaker 4: it because you were like, oh, man, I'll rest up.
- 5:41Speaker 4: I'll get my little simulated at-bats against our pitchers. I'll
- 5:45Speaker 4: talk a little trash to them if I get a hit,
- 5:47Speaker 4: and then I'll be ready for the game.
- 5:48Speaker 2: It's the playoffs, man.
- 5:49Speaker 6: You want the rest. Forget it. I hate that argument.
- 5:51Speaker 6: That drives me crazy.
- 5:53Speaker 7: I think the series is far from being over. I
- 5:55Speaker 7: think this is going to be a long one. I
- 5:57Speaker 7: think both these teams kind of play similar with good pitching,
- 5:59Speaker 7: good bullpens, and just kind of like timely hitting here
- 6:02Speaker 7: and there.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:04Speaker 7: I think Cleveland has just done it. I thought that
- 6:05Speaker 7: game one was huge to get out to that lead
- 6:07Speaker 7: and get that one in Tampa. And then you had
- 6:09Speaker 7: Gavin Williams where you got to win his starts because
- 6:11Speaker 7: he's your ace and he's your head honcho. The way
- 6:14Speaker 7: he's striking guys out and just eliminating runners and with
- 6:16Speaker 7: runners on anybody who gets on, it's like you almost
- 6:19Speaker 7: have to hit a home run off him because it's
- 6:21Speaker 7: hard to string some hits against him.
- 6:24Speaker 6: Who pitches game four? Who's starting?
- 6:26Speaker 4: Do we know who's starting game four? Mick Martinez probably
- 6:28Speaker 4: for the Rays, right? Who's starting for the guards? Is
- 6:30Speaker 4: it going to be Cantillo?
- 6:33Speaker 7: Uh, I wouldn't be surprised. He was good throughout the year.
- 6:37Speaker 7: He has a nasty changeup. Um, I don't know what
- 6:40Speaker 7: they're going to do. So yeah, I'm excited to see
- 6:42Speaker 7: who they go with, but like, that's what I'm saying
- 6:44Speaker 7: with the, you said that you were surprised to see
- 6:48Speaker 7: Gavin kind of come out early. They had a rested
- 6:50Speaker 7: bullpen a little bit going into it, uh, with some
- 6:53Speaker 7: of these, the, those stretched out guys were able to
- 6:55Speaker 7: come in and they were rested rather. Um, can't tell
- 6:58Speaker 7: if sounds right, but you know what? We'll wait and see.
- 7:02Speaker 6: Call Steven Vogt right now. You need to call Vogt right.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Now and find out.
- 7:07Speaker 4: We need him to break the news right now. So, Kip,
- 7:09Speaker 4: call Vogt and be like, hey, I need to know
- 7:11Speaker 4: who's pitching. And tell him this. It'll determine if I
- 7:15Speaker 4: come and throw out the first pitch or not. That's
- 7:16Speaker 4: how you get them.
- 7:18Speaker 7: That'll determine it? I like it. But, Scotty, I don't
- 7:21Speaker 7: like you discrediting the Shadows. The Shadows are a real thing.
- 7:23Speaker 1: They're annoying.
- 7:25Speaker 7: They're not an excuse or a crutch to have, but
- 7:28Speaker 7: they're not nothing.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Hold on, hold on.
- 7:31Speaker 5: Shadow me, shadow me.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Go back to the two-shot because I'm only being sarcastic,
- 7:34Speaker 3: having fun with it. I mean, I don't really like
- 7:36Speaker 3: hate on or love on. No, the guy next to
- 7:39Speaker 3: you is the one.
- 7:40Speaker 6: I hate that.
- 7:41Speaker 2: It's you?
- 7:42Speaker 7: Okay, you don't think that's an excuse.
- 7:46Speaker 6: No, but I just hate hearing about it.
- 7:48Speaker 4: And I know you have to bring it up like
- 7:50Speaker 4: when I call games. I just don't like it when
- 7:53Speaker 4: we have to hear about it. And every broadcast crew
- 7:55Speaker 4: does it because they want to talk about it.
- 7:58Speaker 6: Like, okay, hey, there's shadows. Cool.
- 8:00Speaker 4: But then when you say, oh, well, the umpire can't
- 8:02Speaker 4: see because of shadows. The catcher can't see because of shadows.
- 8:04Speaker 4: The guy at third can't see. My crew does it
- 8:08Speaker 4: when we do games, and it's just like it makes
- 8:10Speaker 4: it seem like it's impossible. Dude, I took BP in
- 8:13Speaker 4: Cleveland as a visitor in the shadows every single day.
- 8:18Speaker 6: As a visitor, you're like, man, I'm used to these.
- 8:20Speaker 6: I'm used to these damn shadows.
- 8:22Speaker 4: Like everyone's talking about shadows. I'm like, man, this is
- 8:24Speaker 4: the time we took BP or early BP every day.
- 8:26Speaker 4: I was like, I'm locked in now. I don't, this
- 8:28Speaker 4: doesn't do anything different. So I just think it's like
- 8:30Speaker 4: you said, I think sometimes it's used as a crutch.
- 8:32Speaker 4: The players won't say it. I mean, they'll come back
- 8:34Speaker 4: and dug up and be like, man, I didn't see
- 8:35Speaker 4: that one.
- 8:35Speaker 6: Great.
- 8:36Speaker 4: But, uh, you can't use it as a crutch. Guardians

- 9:41Speaker 5: Please support our show and let them know we sent you.
- 9:43Speaker 2: They do.
- 9:44Speaker 7: It's just annoying. It's just like, it just plays into
- 9:46Speaker 7: the game plan when there's shadows. I think the pitcher
- 9:47Speaker 7: can kind of maybe just start through that first time
- 9:51Speaker 7: through while the shadows are there with maybe just a fastball.
- 9:53Speaker 7: He almost doesn't have to use his off speed. because
- 9:55Speaker 7: while they're still struggling to pick up the ball a
- 9:56Speaker 7: little bit he can save maybe a pitch in his
- 9:58Speaker 7: repertoire until the second time around or just can play
- 10:01Speaker 7: in the game plan but it's not an excuse you
- 10:02Speaker 7: can still get hits off him but uh i i'm
- 10:05Speaker 7: with you i don't like it being his crutch i'm
- 10:06Speaker 7: just saying it's not.
- 10:07Speaker 4: Nothing no i know hey by the way scotty i
- 10:10Speaker 4: owe you.
- 10:10Speaker 3: An apology thank you i want to stay in the
- 10:14Speaker 3: shadows by the way never apologize i'm just the hype
- 10:17Speaker 3: never ever ever Hey, never.
- 10:19Speaker 6: Apologize to Scott, first of all.
- 10:21Speaker 2: I can't believe you said that. Well, it was a
- 10:23Speaker 2: qualified position. Trust me.
- 10:25Speaker 7: I don't.
- 10:28Speaker 5: Know anything about them one way or another.
- 10:31Speaker 6: No, but here's the thing.
- 10:33Speaker 4: I know as a catcher, I used to say, I
- 10:36Speaker 4: used to come in and lie to the pitcher and
- 10:37Speaker 4: be like, man, it's so hard to see right now, dude.
- 10:40Speaker 4: You can just get them all out if you just
- 10:41Speaker 4: do A, B, and C. It's so hard to see. Man,
- 10:44Speaker 4: I'm back there. I'm having a hard time catching, and
- 10:46Speaker 4: I know what's coming. Meanwhile, I'm just like, psh.
- 10:48Speaker 6: Oh, look at him up there.
- 10:49Speaker 2: You're like, just, yeah, that's good. That would, I like that.
- 10:53Speaker 7: That gives a picture where he's like, Oh, maybe my
- 10:55Speaker 7: stuff's playing better. I just got to throw strikes today.
- 10:57Speaker 7: And you're like, yeah, those.
- 10:58Speaker 6: Shadows are so hard to see, man. And then I
- 11:01Speaker 6: used to hate it.
- 11:01Speaker 4: Like when a guy would strike out on my own
- 11:03Speaker 4: team and they'd be like, how do you see back there?
- 11:05Speaker 4: And I'll be like, yeah, the shadows are terrible, man.
- 11:08Speaker 2: It's so hard.
- 11:10Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Like, yeah.
- 11:11Speaker 6: Okay.
- 11:15Speaker 3: The raise also, received four nice innings from their bullpen.
- 11:19Speaker 3: Tyler Wells, thank you, Mike Elias, and Steven Matz. So, AJ,
- 11:24Speaker 3: that at least sets them up nicely for the next
- 11:26Speaker 3: day or two where we're also going to potentially deal
- 11:29Speaker 3: with weather. You know, they didn't have to use some
- 11:32Speaker 3: big boys here.
- 11:33Speaker 6: They can't move every game. I don't understand why they
- 11:36Speaker 6: can't move every game.
- 11:38Speaker 5: To another location?
- 11:40Speaker 4: No, just play them all in the trough.
- 11:41Speaker 6: Who cares? It doesn't rain in the trough most of
- 11:43Speaker 6: the time.
- 11:43Speaker 4: Every once in a while it does.
- 11:44Speaker 2: Go to Milwaukee.
- 11:46Speaker 5: Cleveland, get a roof, Cleveland.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Come on.
- 11:49Speaker 5: It's only like a billion and a half dollars.
- 11:51Speaker 4: No. I love Cleveland so much. I can't remember ever
- 11:54Speaker 4: going to Cleveland for a three-game series and it not raining.
- 11:57Speaker 4: I don't think it was possible to go to Cleveland
- 11:59Speaker 4: and not in a three-game series not have at least
- 12:02Speaker 4: one to rain delay. That's why the clubhouse in Cleveland
- 12:04Speaker 4: was great because there was video games. There was a
- 12:06Speaker 4: million video games. So you got really good at Big
- 12:08Speaker 4: Buck Hunter and you got really good at– a golden
- 12:11Speaker 4: tee because you would sit there for hours and rain delays.
- 12:13Speaker 6: You're like, Oh my God. Oh, we're in Cleveland. Guess
- 12:15Speaker 6: what guys? Rain delays coming.
- 12:17Speaker 4: No way.
- 12:20Speaker 7: It's built for rain delays. It's, it's built for comfort.
- 12:22Speaker 7: Those clubhouses at Cleveland, they know it.
- 12:25Speaker 5: Same with the beginning of the season.
- 12:26Speaker 3: I've spoken to players on the guardians, especially the ones
- 12:29Speaker 3: that are coming from say the Dominican Republic or a
- 12:32Speaker 3: Latin country where it's always warm.
- 12:34Speaker 5: And they're like, I suck these first two months.
- 12:37Speaker 2: It's 20 degrees.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:40Speaker 7: Oh, you just try to get a couple singles, a
- 12:44Speaker 7: single a day or something, just to get through April
- 12:46Speaker 7: when you're in Cleveland. Chicago, too.
- 12:47Speaker 2: JJ knows.
- 12:49Speaker 7: That Midwest is cold as hell. So you just try
- 12:51Speaker 7: to kind of get through it until the sun starts
- 12:52Speaker 7: coming out. But Claude brings up a great point. That's
- 12:56Speaker 7: why we have a Mario Kart in the Cleveland home side.
- 12:59Speaker 7: They're just like a big, one of those big arcade games.
- 13:04Speaker 7: And Jose is like a world-renowned Mario Kart player now
- 13:06Speaker 7: because he's just been on it every single rain delay
- 13:09Speaker 7: or every single home game for the last however many
- 13:11Speaker 7: years i.
- 13:13Speaker 5: Think that's why he signed for a.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Discount he just wanted to keep playing mario i don't yeah.
- 13:18Speaker 3: I don't know if any other team has this i
- 13:20Speaker 3: i need this it's like a kid when you're like
- 13:22Speaker 3: do you want a million dollars or candy and video
- 13:24Speaker 3: games candy video games well you can buy that stuff
- 13:28Speaker 3: with a million but say less yeah exactly uh well good.
- 13:31Speaker 6: For cleveland Who doesn't like candy and video games, Scott?
- 13:34Speaker 2: I agree.
- 13:35Speaker 3: It's just a million dollars worth. You can buy a
- 13:36Speaker 3: lot more that way. Kip, let's finish with this. I mean,
- 13:39Speaker 3: I know we're still a couple games away from the
- 13:42Speaker 3: Guardians or a couple wins away from the Guardians getting
- 13:44Speaker 3: to the World Series, but there's.
- 13:46Speaker 5: A long, long, long history here.
- 13:48Speaker 3: And I think Cleveland's drought is underrated because they have won.
- 13:53Speaker 3: It's just been an eternity. You know, like Milwaukee hasn't won.
- 13:56Speaker 3: A few years ago, the Rangers hadn't won. There's a
- 13:59Speaker 3: few other teams. The Rays haven't won. The Guardians haven't won.
- 14:02Speaker 3: essentially haven't won unless you were watching ball in the 40s.
- 14:07Speaker 7: No yeah they're that drought feels longer than like a
- 14:12Speaker 7: franchise obviously that hasn't ever won because it's just I
- 14:16Speaker 7: mean nobody's pretty much around anymore it was really watching
- 14:19Speaker 7: it back then when they did win so I think
- 14:21Speaker 7: that was in 16 it was always talked about whereas
- 14:23Speaker 7: us and the Cubs and the two longest droughts well
- 14:25Speaker 7: the Cubs won and ours is Added 10 years to it,
- 14:28Speaker 7: so it's still going. We keep knocking on that door.
- 14:31Speaker 7: They've been in the postseason a lot in the last 10,
- 14:34Speaker 7: 15 years, dating back to when I was there. And
- 14:37Speaker 7: you're just hoping one of these years it becomes our year,
- 14:39Speaker 7: our turn.
- 14:41Speaker 2: This could be it.
- 14:42Speaker 5: We've talked about the American League being weak. The weak
- 14:45Speaker 5: American League, AJ.
- 14:46Speaker 4: Still mad at Kip.
- 14:47Speaker 5: Didn't we talk about this.
- 14:48Speaker 2: All year, though?
- 14:49Speaker 5: What do you mean?
- 14:49Speaker 2: Why are you mad at me? Still mad at Kip.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Because the Cubs? Yeah.
- 14:55Speaker 6: Yes, because he knows exactly why I'm mad at him.
- 14:57Speaker 6: He knows why.
- 15:00Speaker 7: Try going and working for him after.
- 15:07Speaker 4: That's true.
- 15:07Speaker 1: 2016, yeah.
- 15:07Speaker 6: 2016, 3-1 lead.
- 15:08Speaker 7: Soccer for punishment.
- 15:09Speaker 4: Now I got to see all these crappy T-shirts say,
- 15:11Speaker 4: the greatest game ever played was on a Tuesday in Cleveland.
- 15:14Speaker 6: No, it wasn't. It was in Houston.
- 15:15Speaker 7: Makes two of us, dude.
- 15:17Speaker 6: Think about it.
- 15:17Speaker 1: I live in Chicago.
- 15:19Speaker 4: I know.
- 15:19Speaker 6: I feel sorry for you.
- 15:23Speaker 7: Still see all the stuff when I'm pumping gas or anything,
- 15:26Speaker 7: just there's W flags and everything. And it's just like,
- 15:28Speaker 7: I'd like to think I'm numb to it or maybe, but,
- 15:30Speaker 7: or I've just, I don't know. I've considered moving just
- 15:33Speaker 7: for that reason.
- 15:36Speaker 3: Well, let me make you feel better on the topic
- 15:38Speaker 3: of pumping gas. Full count fueled by marathon.
- 15:42Speaker 5: Yeah, there he is. We're fun.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Nice transition.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Save up to thank you. Save up to $ 1 a
- 15:47Speaker 3: gallon with marathon rewards. How do you come back from 3-0?
- 15:50Speaker 3: Doug Minkiewicz has some thoughts. He's going to join us next. Hey,
- 15:54Speaker 3: while we're in break, getting ready for Doug. Average with
- 15:56Speaker 3: running and scoring position this postseason, Dan Clark's sports. And
- 16:01Speaker 3: he posted this last night. Was this probably before the game, AJ?
- 16:09Speaker 3: It was last night, so it was before the Dodger game.
- 16:12Speaker 3: That number's probably still pretty crappy.
- 16:15Speaker 4: I mean, they got one hit with a guy in
- 16:17Speaker 4: scoring position last night, so it actually probably went up, Scott.
- 16:21Speaker 3: Yeah, it might be 089, I want to say.
- 16:26Speaker 4: If they went anything better than one for 11, it
- 16:28Speaker 4: went up, so that's good math by me, because one
- 16:30Speaker 4: for 11 is 091, by the way. It's not that
- 16:32Speaker 4: I ever paid attention to my batting average when I
- 16:33Speaker 4: was hitting, but it had to go up because they
- 16:36Speaker 4: got at least one hit. Will Smith, I don't think
- 16:37Speaker 4: they got any other ones, but they got one.
- 16:41Speaker 5: On the other end, you have the Brewers.
- 16:44Speaker 4: You want to know why teams win or teams don't
- 16:46Speaker 4: win in the postseason? Show me teams that can get
- 16:49Speaker 4: big hits with runners in scoring position.
- 16:50Speaker 6: They usually win.
- 16:51Speaker 5: Sorry.
- 16:52Speaker 6: That's the way it is.
- 16:55Speaker 5: Some people say that the stat is luck.
- 17:00Speaker 4: Some people also just have never played baseball and don't
- 17:02Speaker 4: realize how important and how certain people are better at
- 17:06Speaker 4: getting hits in big situations and want to be up
- 17:08Speaker 4: at times with the games on the line. And there
- 17:11Speaker 4: are certain people who are ultra-talented– that don't want to
- 17:14Speaker 4: be up in those situations. They would rather have somebody
- 17:17Speaker 4: else get the hit than them. There are people like that,
- 17:20Speaker 4: and they are very good players, and I've played with them,
- 17:22Speaker 4: and I'm sure Kip has played with them also. Yeah.
- 17:26Speaker 5: There's a word for that. Clutch.
- 17:29Speaker 3: And it applies to many things in life. We're like, oh,
- 17:31Speaker 3: he always gets it done. Whether it's, you know, he
- 17:34Speaker 3: makes the shot, he gets the hit.
- 17:36Speaker 5: That's a thing. We're seeing that.
- 17:37Speaker 7: Well, there's some people that AJ's talking about. There's some
- 17:40Speaker 7: people that just want that at bat, and there's some
- 17:41Speaker 7: people that, like, It could be a game. You could
- 17:44Speaker 7: be down three, four or five runs, ninth inning, two outs.
- 17:48Speaker 7: And they're like, instead of just extending this rally or
- 17:50Speaker 7: getting back into it, you're like, I don't want this
- 17:53Speaker 7: at bat. This crowd's on their feet chanting and they're
- 17:55Speaker 7: just trying to get out of there and just swing
- 17:56Speaker 7: it at the first pitch to kind of make contact
- 17:58Speaker 7: and get out. So there's guys who like that situation
- 18:01Speaker 7: and you just got to convince yourself and go for it.
- 18:04Speaker 7: Be like, what's the worst that could happen? I could
- 18:06Speaker 7: try and get out. I could not try and get out.
- 18:07Speaker 7: So might as well try. Might as well want that situation.
- 18:11Speaker 7: Only what happens if it goes well? How about thinking
- 18:13Speaker 7: it that way? But EJ's right. People who don't think
- 18:16Speaker 7: that way.
- 18:17Speaker 6: Expectations. Expectations are a son of a gun, Kip. You
- 18:22Speaker 6: know that. There's guys. I remember this when I first
- 18:25Speaker 6: came up.
- 18:25Speaker 4: They're like, man, if you hit 30 homers your rookie year,
- 18:28Speaker 4: then people are going to expect you to hit 30 homers.
- 18:29Speaker 4: And I played with some dudes that did it, that
- 18:32Speaker 4: had a lot of success when they were young. And
- 18:33Speaker 4: they're like, man, they expect me to do this every year?
- 18:35Speaker 6: It's impossible.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 18:40Speaker 5: Hey, our friend Doug Mankiewicz joining us.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Perfect timing, too.
- 18:43Speaker 6: Wait, does that say now pitching?
- 18:45Speaker 5: The whole thing.
- 18:45Speaker 4: Does that say now pitching?
- 18:47Speaker 6: Yeah. You never could hit where there's crap.
- 18:53Speaker 1: I mean, I could pitch better than I could hit
- 18:54Speaker 1: back in high school. By the way, that book you're
- 18:59Speaker 1: going to write about AJ being wrong, it's going to
- 19:01Speaker 1: be a lot more pages. I can promise you that.
- 19:04Speaker 3: I'm going to have you do, what's the beginning of
- 19:06Speaker 3: the book? The forward or, you know, when they have
- 19:07Speaker 3: someone guest in it? be on, on the beginning of
- 19:11Speaker 3: the book.
- 19:11Speaker 1: I'll take care of that. I'll take care of that.
- 19:12Speaker 5: That might be the whole book. So you can just
- 19:15Speaker 5: have it at that point.
- 19:16Speaker 3: I'll give you a hundred pages, but I need a
- 19:18Speaker 3: book or a pitch on how you can come back
- 19:20Speaker 3: from three. Only one team has ever done it in baseball.
- 19:24Speaker 3: It was your 2004 Boston Red Sox. So what advice
- 19:28Speaker 3: would you give to the Dodgers entering game four?
- 19:31Speaker 1: I mean, I think Dave is going to try to
- 19:33Speaker 1: channel his Tito Francona. You know, Terry was big on
- 19:37Speaker 1: wind today and, You try to take any little bit
- 19:41Speaker 1: of positive you can out of that. I mean, there's
- 19:42Speaker 1: so many things that happened last night's game. The Dodgers
- 19:45Speaker 1: didn't win, but they broke through on their bullpen. Will
- 19:48Speaker 1: Smith finally had a clutch, kind of had a ball
- 19:50Speaker 1: off the wall. It all boils down to pitching. And
- 19:53Speaker 1: if you think about this, I mean, if you could
- 19:56Speaker 1: have any four guys in the game to start to
- 20:00Speaker 1: win four games in a row, I'm going to argue
- 20:02Speaker 1: that Glassnow, Scooble, Yamamoto, and Snell would be your four. So,
- 20:07Speaker 1: you know, I think it, A lot of things. Pride
- 20:09Speaker 1: kicks in. I know the only time I ever saw
- 20:13Speaker 1: our Red Sox team really get pissed was when we
- 20:16Speaker 1: were down 3-0. Like, there was some anger involved. Like,
- 20:19Speaker 1: there's a kick to the pride that it's like, we're
- 20:22Speaker 1: not going out like this. And, you know, for the
- 20:25Speaker 1: most part, you know, it sounds so cliche-ish and just
- 20:27Speaker 1: win today. You can't look at it as I got
- 20:30Speaker 1: four more games or three. I'm going to win tonight
- 20:32Speaker 1: and win three more. Win right now and let the
- 20:35Speaker 1: cards fall where they may. And they have the arms
- 20:37Speaker 1: to do it.
- 20:39Speaker 4: All right, you mentioned the 2004 Red Sox. Who's going
- 20:42Speaker 4: to wear the bloody sock then?
- 20:43Speaker 6: Which one? Is it going to be Glass now? Yamamoto?
- 20:47Speaker 4: Who's wearing the bloody sock? I guess Schilling did it in, what,
- 20:49Speaker 4: game six? So that would be Yamamoto. He's going to
- 20:52Speaker 4: have to go bloody sock to rally the troops?
- 20:55Speaker 1: I don't know if there's a lot of guys in
- 20:56Speaker 1: that Dodger clubhouse that can handle the actual surgery that
- 21:00Speaker 1: Schill did in the clubhouse right in the middle of
- 21:03Speaker 1: the training room. But– To me, it's like you guys
- 21:07Speaker 1: talked about it earlier on the show about how the
- 21:08Speaker 1: Brewers have to put their step on their throat now.
- 21:11Speaker 1: I think their best shot to win. Obviously, they're playing
- 21:14Speaker 1: extremely well. They're, you know, doing everything. They're playing how
- 21:17Speaker 1: they've played all year. And that's, you know, they just
- 21:20Speaker 1: get timely hits. Their bullpen's nails. They're pitching. They play
- 21:24Speaker 1: the game right. All the things we've all talked about.
- 21:27Speaker 1: They better– if you want to put them away, put
- 21:29Speaker 1: them away now. Glass now is their best shot. I
- 21:31Speaker 1: don't want to give– Momentum is a wonderful thing. I
- 21:33Speaker 1: know people don't say, you know, the Twitter world think
- 21:36Speaker 1: it doesn't exist. It exists. And if you get one,
- 21:40Speaker 1: look what just happened to Cleveland and the White Sox.
- 21:43Speaker 1: You know, I think everybody in the world thought the
- 21:44Speaker 1: White Sox were going home up to nothing. That series
- 21:47Speaker 1: was over. No, it takes one swing, one pitch, one
- 21:50Speaker 1: stolen base. And I think the, you know, I think
- 21:54Speaker 1: you're seeing some of the Dodgers, like the added consistent
- 21:57Speaker 1: deep playoff runs are starting to wear on them. Um,
- 22:01Speaker 1: but the same token, there's a lot of pride in that,
- 22:04Speaker 1: in that clubhouse. There's a lot of pride in not
- 22:06Speaker 1: going out like this. And, you know, the hardest game
- 22:09Speaker 1: is to, the hardest game is to finish somebody off and,
- 22:13Speaker 1: you know, y'all Kobe, Brian, right. Jobs, not finished job,
- 22:16Speaker 1: finished jobs, not finished. So, um, you know, I expect
- 22:19Speaker 1: the Dodgers to put their best game forward in game four.
- 22:23Speaker 1: I like that.
- 22:23Speaker 7: I want to bring it more back into the mindset
- 22:25Speaker 7: and the dugout a little bit when you guys are down, um,
- 22:29Speaker 7: Because it's just win today. And that's what you said.
- 22:30Speaker 7: That's like the Francona motto and all that stuff. And
- 22:32Speaker 7: it's easier said than done. But it's that motto where
- 22:34Speaker 7: it's like, give me a full nine innings because not
- 22:37Speaker 7: just four or five and then, oh, they got a lead. Oh,
- 22:41Speaker 7: this might be our last game of the season. We
- 22:42Speaker 7: start kind of feeling sorry for ourselves. It's like, no,
- 22:45Speaker 7: what else do we have to lose? This could be
- 22:47Speaker 7: the last game. Then let's give a full nine innings.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Stay in it.
- 22:50Speaker 7: What was like the communication between teammates if you guys
- 22:52Speaker 7: went down or what it would be like?
- 22:54Speaker 1: I think the one thing that's different about, I think,
- 22:57Speaker 1: our series and their series, every time the Dodgers have scored,
- 22:59Speaker 1: the Brewers have punched them right back in the mouth.
- 23:02Speaker 1: I mean, that's the most amazing thing the Brewers have
- 23:04Speaker 1: done is that every time the Dodgers have scored, they've
- 23:06Speaker 1: answered immediately. And that's something that, yeah, we had some
- 23:10Speaker 1: moments where it didn't feel great, but our group was
- 23:13Speaker 1: very steadfast and very believable and we understood what the
- 23:17Speaker 1: job was. And between Kevin walking around and telling everybody
- 23:21Speaker 1: and we just had a belief that, that we're too
- 23:25Speaker 1: good to go out like this and we haven't played well.
- 23:28Speaker 1: And I think that's something you can look back at
- 23:29Speaker 1: the Dodgers or you look back at last year. The
- 23:32Speaker 1: Dodgers were carried by their arms. Their offense wasn't that
- 23:35Speaker 1: great in the postseason last year. So you're looking at
- 23:39Speaker 1: one or two big hits all of a sudden, who knows?
- 23:41Speaker 1: And you keep, you know, I look at trying to
- 23:44Speaker 1: be as positive as possible defensively And they broke through
- 23:47Speaker 1: against the vaulted Brewer bullpen. That's a positive. It didn't
- 23:50Speaker 1: last long, but they got to them. They proved they're human.
- 23:54Speaker 1: And one little spark can change everything. You get Glass
- 23:58Speaker 1: now to get off to a good start. Will Smith
- 24:01Speaker 1: continues to swing the bat well. Tucker's been their godsend
- 24:04Speaker 1: for as much animosity as he took all year at
- 24:07Speaker 1: his contract and having a bad year. It's amazing how
- 24:10Speaker 1: guys that are used to doing well and don't have
- 24:12Speaker 1: the year they're supposed to have you know, have amazing
- 24:15Speaker 1: post seasons and it wipes their off season. It wipes
- 24:17Speaker 1: their main season away. So, you know, like I said,
- 24:20Speaker 1: it's a, it's a mindset, but I really truly believe
- 24:23Speaker 1: those guys have been through everything. They've, they've had to
- 24:25Speaker 1: battle from behind. I think they were behind against the
- 24:27Speaker 1: Padres in a five game series a couple of years
- 24:29Speaker 1: ago and, and did it. They have a lot of
- 24:31Speaker 1: pros on that team and I expect them to come
- 24:33Speaker 1: out and play their best baseball.
- 24:35Speaker 4: Yeah, the Brewers just– this is what the Brewers do.
- 24:37Speaker 4: Every time they give up a run, they did it
- 24:39Speaker 4: against the Padres too. They gave up a run. It
- 24:40Speaker 4: was like first and second before you could blink for
- 24:42Speaker 4: the Brewers the next inning.
- 24:43Speaker 6: It was incredible.
- 24:45Speaker 4: I don't know what– I don't know if Murph has
- 24:48Speaker 4: like voodoo, magic dust, fairy. I don't know what he does,
- 24:52Speaker 4: but he's got something. Because as soon as they give
- 24:53Speaker 4: up a run, it's like boom, first and second.
- 24:55Speaker 6: He does. Nobody else. It's incredible.
- 24:57Speaker 1: It really is.
- 24:59Speaker 4: If you're the– but here's the thing. You know Dave Roberts.
- 25:01Speaker 4: You played with Dave Roberts. You were on this team,
- 25:03Speaker 4: and you know what Tito said. What's the message? I
- 25:06Speaker 4: know you said win right now, but does he have
- 25:08Speaker 4: a meeting with the guys? Did Tito have a meeting
- 25:10Speaker 4: in 2004, or was it player-driven? Because is Dave Roberts
- 25:13Speaker 4: going to go, you guys remember that stolen base I
- 25:15Speaker 4: had back in 2004? Or we can do it like
- 25:19Speaker 4: the Herb Brooks 1980 Olympic speech, or does he just say, guys,
- 25:22Speaker 4: you're veterans.
- 25:23Speaker 6: You know what to do. Let's go try to win
- 25:24Speaker 6: four games in a row.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Tito didn't say two words. He didn't have no speech.
- 25:29Speaker 1: He just kind of looked at us when he walked
- 25:32Speaker 1: into his office after game three and was just like,
- 25:34Speaker 1: I think there's a different feel, too. We got our
- 25:37Speaker 1: brains kicked in in game three. We had no shot.
- 25:40Speaker 1: So to keep losing close games, it does have a.
- 25:44Speaker 1: I think back to... Someone was on first last night.
- 25:48Speaker 1: It was after the Brewers came back, and they showed
- 25:50Speaker 1: Freddie's face. And Freddie looked like he was exhausted. Like, man,
- 25:54Speaker 1: here they come again. Here they come again. And that
- 25:58Speaker 1: gets demoralizing, but... I think it's a player-driven thing. Those guys,
- 26:02Speaker 1: they don't need to say anything. I mean, you can
- 26:04Speaker 1: have all the rah-rah speeches you want, and they're great
- 26:07Speaker 1: if you're a coach. You feel better as a coach
- 26:09Speaker 1: when you leave that. But as a player, they know
- 26:12Speaker 1: what's at stake. If you can't get motivated in October,
- 26:15Speaker 1: nothing's going to motivate you. But what you said about Murph,
- 26:19Speaker 1: he's been doing this. I played against Murph when he
- 26:21Speaker 1: was at Notre Dame, Arizona State. Take Jake Bowers. I
- 26:26Speaker 1: thought Jake was one of the best pure hitters I
- 26:28Speaker 1: managed against in the minor leagues. And I think he
- 26:31Speaker 1: chased the whole launch angle world because he had bat
- 26:36Speaker 1: to ball skills. And something happened where he just, you know, Murph,
- 26:39Speaker 1: they let him be him. He made a few adjustments.
- 26:41Speaker 1: And he just, you just look at a team that
- 26:44Speaker 1: plays so free and have such belief that if I
- 26:47Speaker 1: don't do it, somebody else is. And what I love
- 26:51Speaker 1: that Murph does is they don't take anything for granted.
- 26:54Speaker 1: They're going to get on first, and they're trying to
- 26:57Speaker 1: take the game to somebody else. And I always feel
- 26:59Speaker 1: like if you're trying to beat someone that might be
- 27:02Speaker 1: quote-unquote better than you, you attack the hell out of
- 27:05Speaker 1: them and don't stop. And I think last year they
- 27:07Speaker 1: never really had the opportunity to. And you tell, they
- 27:10Speaker 1: get guys on first, they ran all year, they're going
- 27:12Speaker 1: to keep going. And tonight, that's my biggest fear with
- 27:15Speaker 1: Glass now. If he gets guys on, it's going to
- 27:17Speaker 1: be a run, run, run, run. They haven't even sold
- 27:20Speaker 1: third yet, and I think they're going to tonight if
- 27:21Speaker 1: they have the opportunity.
- 27:23Speaker 4: All right, you mentioned Jake Bowers. I mean, he's had
- 27:26Speaker 4: two epic at-bats in this postseason, right? The walk and then, obviously,
- 27:30Speaker 4: the home run off Snell. How tough is it? I mean,
- 27:35Speaker 4: you played first. You were a catcher as a younger kid,
- 27:37Speaker 4: which was hilarious. I would have paid to have seen that,
- 27:40Speaker 4: but at a higher level.
- 27:42Speaker 6: But.
- 27:43Speaker 2: You could.
- 27:44Speaker 1: I can tell you that. I watched you clank stuff
- 27:45Speaker 1: for years.
- 27:47Speaker 4: I saw you try to take throws from the outfield
- 27:49Speaker 4: and hit your shin and you quit.
- 27:50Speaker 6: So I saw that too.
- 27:51Speaker 1: I never said I could catch it.
- 27:53Speaker 6: I saw it. I was a kid.
- 27:54Speaker 2: If I tried to steal center.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Field, I would be in the gold gloves to catch her.
- 27:57Speaker 1: I made Torrey Hunter so good at coming in on
- 27:59Speaker 1: the ball for me throwing it to center every night.
- 28:02Speaker 1: All right.
- 28:04Speaker 6: But what do these at-bats do?
- 28:05Speaker 4: You know this. You've watched enough baseball. These at-bats from
- 28:08Speaker 4: Jake Bowers. And it's not just Jake Bowers. It's all
- 28:10Speaker 4: these guys. They never– When you watch the other games,
- 28:13Speaker 4: it's like one, two, three, strikeout.
- 28:14Speaker 6: One, two, three, strikeout.
- 28:15Speaker 4: With the Brewers, it's like, okay, we get to two strikes.
- 28:18Speaker 4: And there is a change in approach. It is, I'm
- 28:20Speaker 4: going to go the other way. I'm going to stay
- 28:22Speaker 4: in it. What does that do to pitchers? Because I
- 28:24Speaker 4: know as a catcher, I was like, man, can this
- 28:26Speaker 4: dude just put the ball in play already?
- 28:27Speaker 6: Like, strikeout, get a hit. I don't care.
- 28:29Speaker 4: Let's just get the next guy up here so we
- 28:31Speaker 4: can try to get him out. Like, you know, as
- 28:33Speaker 4: a fielder, when you're standing out there, what does it
- 28:34Speaker 4: do to the fielders?
- 28:36Speaker 1: It just puts you asleep. You're like, oh, my gosh.
- 28:39Speaker 1: Throw it behind them. Go on to the next guy.
- 28:41Speaker 1: But what you talked about, you guys talked about the shadows, right?
- 28:44Speaker 1: You talked about shadows on the segment before. If the
- 28:49Speaker 1: leadoff hitter comes back and is like, man, I can't see,
- 28:51Speaker 1: the other eight hitters are like, oh, well, great. Here
- 28:53Speaker 1: we go. Well, if you see those at bats and
- 28:55Speaker 1: you see the grind, they pass the baton. and you
- 28:59Speaker 1: wear out somebody, the next guy, it's a difference between
- 29:03Speaker 1: hitting for yourself and hitting as us, hitting as a team.
- 29:08Speaker 1: They pass the baton. They keep grinding on you. And
- 29:10Speaker 1: if you keep grinding on you, they've proven that these
- 29:12Speaker 1: guys are arguably the best arms, best rotation in baseball,
- 29:16Speaker 1: and that those guys, when they get worn down, they
- 29:18Speaker 1: make mistakes like everybody else. And their approach has been phenomenal.
- 29:23Speaker 1: They haven't changed. They've stayed exactly the same. The moment's
- 29:26Speaker 1: not too big. And that at bat has to do
- 29:29Speaker 1: nothing but breed confidence into everybody else because every foul ball,
- 29:32Speaker 1: the energy level goes up in the dugout. And you're like,
- 29:35Speaker 1: look at this. He keeps doing this.
- 29:36Speaker 6: Oh, my gosh.
- 29:37Speaker 1: You better bounce it twice because he's going to do
- 29:39Speaker 1: something well. And, you know, don't take for granted either
- 29:42Speaker 1: that Jake Bowers and Blake Snell, I think they overlapped
- 29:45Speaker 1: a little bit, but they did know each other because
- 29:47Speaker 1: they played in the same system with the Rays. So,
- 29:49Speaker 1: you know, the familiarity to what it looks like and
- 29:52Speaker 1: what he's expecting, that played into something I was watching
- 29:54Speaker 1: last night.
- 29:57Speaker 7: I'm going to turn to the Dodgers lineup just for
- 29:59Speaker 7: a second here, where I know Otani usually gets the
- 30:02Speaker 7: headlines and stuff with his struggles and everything like that.
- 30:05Speaker 7: I'd like to think that, or my personal opinion is,
- 30:07Speaker 7: he's got two other MVPs in this lineup with Freddie
- 30:09Speaker 7: and Mookie that aren't exactly lighting the world on fire either.
- 30:11Speaker 7: So Onus shouldn't all just be on him. But what
- 30:14Speaker 7: are you seeing from Otani this series that, what's different
- 30:17Speaker 7: from during the season, or how is he being pitched different?
- 30:19Speaker 2: What are you noticing?
- 30:20Speaker 1: I just think he's hurt. I mean, I just don't
- 30:22Speaker 1: think he hits you. when your engine's not working as
- 30:26Speaker 1: a hitter and I, AJ hit the nail on the head.
- 30:28Speaker 1: I hate to give him credit, but talking about the
- 30:30Speaker 1: pitching thing, it just wore on him. And he's, you
- 30:34Speaker 1: have a shoulder and a knee. Now it's tough to
- 30:36Speaker 1: chase the ball up. Kip, you're like battle, bad shoulder.
- 30:39Speaker 1: Last thing you want to do is left-handed hitters, chase
- 30:41Speaker 1: the ball up. That hurts when you miss. I just
- 30:43Speaker 1: think he's out of gas. And last night was his
- 30:46Speaker 1: best shot because he had that, that day off. Of course,
- 30:49Speaker 1: he's going to say he wants to play, but, you know,
- 30:52Speaker 1: as much as your stars, you want them to be stars.
- 30:56Speaker 1: You kind of need someone. Kike has saved them over
- 30:58Speaker 1: the years. You know, Rojas with the, they've had one
- 31:03Speaker 1: of those, you know, I always call them the wedge
- 31:05Speaker 1: breaker on the punt on the kickoff team. You need
- 31:08Speaker 1: those guys to come up to. And Edmund had a
- 31:10Speaker 1: great post-season last year. They're just lacking. And I thought
- 31:14Speaker 1: when Will Smith finally barreled that ball up off the
- 31:16Speaker 1: wall last night, I thought, Oh, does Edmund, just how
- 31:19Speaker 1: momentum changes one way, it can change the other way too.
- 31:22Speaker 1: And I thought the biggest out of that game was,
- 31:25Speaker 1: I think it was Kike's at bat, was second and third.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Because you think, oh my gosh, they go up three here,
- 31:30Speaker 1: drop another guy in, they're up two, now it makes
- 31:32Speaker 1: it three. That changes everything in a 2-0 series. And
- 31:38Speaker 1: the Brewers, to their credit, they just kept coming and
- 31:40Speaker 1: they put the fire out and the next thing you know,
- 31:42Speaker 1: they're down again. So I mean, those little key moments
- 31:46Speaker 1: can change a lot, and it can change a mindset.
- 31:48Speaker 1: It can change almost like an aura of your team,
- 31:51Speaker 1: and you almost feel like, okay, we're like– the Brewers
- 31:53Speaker 1: have to feel like they're invincible right now.
- 31:55Speaker 6: Yeah, no kidding.
- 31:56Speaker 4: By the way, I just want to know this because
- 31:57Speaker 4: we played with David Ortiz, David Arias, whatever, you know, whichever.
- 32:01Speaker 1: Name he's going by.
- 32:02Speaker 4: Whichever name he's going by. Or whichever set of chiclets
- 32:07Speaker 4: he has these days, which is– they're looking good, by
- 32:09Speaker 4: the way. They're bright.
- 32:11Speaker 1: They're bright.
- 32:12Speaker 4: They're shiny.
- 32:16Speaker 1: I looked at it. I thought the first thing I
- 32:17Speaker 1: thought was like, that's, that's Timu Michael Strahan. Like when
- 32:20Speaker 1: he was, I'm like, he's just glowing now, man. It
- 32:26Speaker 1: looks awesome. I love it.
- 32:28Speaker 6: Uh, let's not cuss.
- 32:29Speaker 1: We can't cuss.
- 32:30Speaker 6: Cause the Cubs are Cubs and Marky. I know I do.
- 32:32Speaker 6: I slip up too. I get yelled at.
- 32:34Speaker 4: Um, what would David have said if, if, if, Terry
- 32:38Speaker 4: Francona in 2004, I mean, I guess Shohei's on a
- 32:40Speaker 4: different level, even than David, who was a god in Boston.
- 32:42Speaker 6: He would have said, David, you're struggling.
- 32:45Speaker 4: You know what, David?
- 32:46Speaker 6: We're not going to play you. David would have, what,
- 32:48Speaker 6: thrown something?
- 32:49Speaker 4: I mean, he would have beat the crap out of
- 32:51Speaker 4: the phone again like he did in Baltimore that time, right?
- 32:54Speaker 4: There was no way that Shohei wasn't playing.
- 32:56Speaker 1: We were never Shohei, right? You can remember back when
- 32:59Speaker 1: Garty would try to give us a day off, we'd
- 33:01Speaker 1: literally rip the lineup off the wall and be like, Garty,
- 33:03Speaker 1: try it again. Like, my hip or my knee doesn't hurt.
- 33:07Speaker 1: half as bad as Shannon Stewart's plantar fasciitis or Jock
- 33:10Speaker 1: Jones's knee or your knees or your ankle that year. So,
- 33:14Speaker 1: you know, having him in there, I know presence, but like,
- 33:17Speaker 1: what are you going to replace him with? No one's
- 33:19Speaker 1: swinging the bat well. So, you know, as banged up
- 33:22Speaker 1: as he is, yes, I always feel like superstars, when
- 33:26Speaker 1: they don't do what they're supposed to do, they're being
- 33:29Speaker 1: compared to themselves. And that's almost unfair. I mean, he
- 33:32Speaker 1: had three home runs in a game last year in
- 33:34Speaker 1: a playoff. And won the game on the mound. That
- 33:37Speaker 1: doesn't happen. So you're getting compared to yourself, who's the
- 33:42Speaker 1: best player in the world. So, you know, you just,
- 33:47Speaker 1: there's no way Shohei Otani is going to go in
- 33:48Speaker 1: there and be like, yeah, I need a day off.
- 33:49Speaker 1: That's just not going to happen. He's going to go
- 33:51Speaker 1: out there with one leg if he has to and
- 33:53Speaker 1: give himself a shot to help his team win a game.
- 33:55Speaker 1: And that's not going to work out. I thought about
- 33:57Speaker 1: that too, as a manager, like how would you approach that?
- 34:00Speaker 1: But hey, You got to ride with the horses that
- 34:02Speaker 1: got you there. And you know what? I don't truly
- 34:06Speaker 1: believe that Shohei Otani needs both healthy legs and two
- 34:08Speaker 1: healthy arms to hit a home run either. I think
- 34:10Speaker 1: he's that good he can do it. But you just
- 34:12Speaker 1: got to give it. Sometimes it's not always how you're swinging.
- 34:15Speaker 1: It's how the other team's attacking you with their arms
- 34:18Speaker 1: that deserve the credit over how you're swinging it.
- 34:20Speaker 6: I agree with that.
- 34:22Speaker 7: And I think you guys are talking about being pulled.
- 34:24Speaker 7: They're not even getting the chance to be in the game.
- 34:25Speaker 7: But we saw a tweet of yours about an hour
- 34:28Speaker 7: ago of, getting pulled maybe a little early when you
- 34:30Speaker 7: are in the game. So I think you had something
- 34:32Speaker 7: to say about Gavin Williams, only 70 pitches and getting
- 34:35Speaker 7: the hook there. Is that just the new age game?
- 34:37Speaker 7: And that's just kind of, we have to deal with it.
- 34:38Speaker 7: Are we ever going to see that go back to
- 34:40Speaker 7: where they let starters go seven or eight, but what,
- 34:43Speaker 7: what is your real opinion on this?
- 34:45Speaker 1: First thing I thought it was third time through the order.
- 34:47Speaker 1: It's all we hear about now, right? We're here by
- 34:49Speaker 1: the analytics and through the order, but I was just
- 34:51Speaker 1: thinking game three, you have three straight games at home on,
- 34:57Speaker 1: knowing that games four and five tend to get a
- 35:00Speaker 1: little lengthy. You're going to need all the outs you
- 35:02Speaker 1: can get. Your guy is, your horse is mowing and
- 35:07Speaker 1: he's got 70 pitches. It wasn't like there was decline
- 35:09Speaker 1: and stuff. He's still throwing 99, 100 miles an hour,
- 35:13Speaker 1: wipeout slider. Sure, he gave up a double or triple
- 35:15Speaker 1: with an RBI, but you're going to need length from somebody.
- 35:19Speaker 1: And the more times you can limit your bullpen from
- 35:21Speaker 1: being seen by the other team, I think it's your advantage.
- 35:24Speaker 1: You have an opportunity to, to let your horse go
- 35:27Speaker 1: one more inning, I felt like that kind of sets
- 35:29Speaker 1: up the rest of the way. You can't really look
- 35:31Speaker 1: at it as– I understand his answer was we expect
- 35:35Speaker 1: to play another two weeks, and he had two starts
- 35:39Speaker 1: and another relief appearance. We've got to take it easy
- 35:42Speaker 1: on him. He's got three months to rest. Don't give
- 35:45Speaker 1: me that. He's your horse. I think you ride him
- 35:47Speaker 1: a little longer. But it worked out. I always– I
- 35:50Speaker 1: text AJ during that inning– I feel like if you
- 35:54Speaker 1: bring in someone else that has different stuff, okay, maybe.
- 35:59Speaker 1: But you brought in a guy throwing 100 too, so
- 36:02Speaker 1: what's the difference in fastballs? I just feel like when
- 36:04Speaker 1: it's your ace, that's what you have them there for.
- 36:07Speaker 1: And if you could have mapped this out from day
- 36:09Speaker 1: one in spring training to think it's a 1-1 series
- 36:14Speaker 1: tied at home with Williams on the mound, he's got
- 36:17Speaker 1: 70 pitches going into the sixth, I think you would
- 36:20Speaker 1: take that every day of the week and twice on
- 36:21Speaker 1: Sunday to let him go. So I just felt like
- 36:23Speaker 1: it was, it was, and I think today's players don't
- 36:26Speaker 1: have the same, I don't know what's the right word,
- 36:29Speaker 1: the same makeup to go into and be like, yeah,
- 36:33Speaker 1: you're not taking me out of the game. I got,
- 36:35Speaker 1: I got 70 pitches, like sit down. I got this.
- 36:38Speaker 1: I think that aspect is gone to where, I mean,
- 36:41Speaker 1: think about CC, come get the ball from CC at
- 36:44Speaker 1: 70 pitches. He would have bit your head off. I mean,
- 36:47Speaker 1: I mean, CC would have, I mean, besides tackling him
- 36:51Speaker 1: down the runway, there's no way you're getting the ball
- 36:53Speaker 1: from him. You know, AJ has a million guys that
- 36:55Speaker 1: he played with that was like, you're absolutely not taking
- 36:57Speaker 1: me out of this situation. Think about taking Pedro out
- 36:59Speaker 1: or Schill. There's no way. And I always feel like
- 37:03Speaker 1: you ride your horse, your best option is still out there.
- 37:06Speaker 1: Let him go.
- 37:06Speaker 4: Doug, before we let you go, I know you have
- 37:10Speaker 4: an important baseball tournament coming up. Uh, you're the, are
- 37:14Speaker 4: you the third base coach by the way? Are you
- 37:16Speaker 4: the third base coach of the 18 U USA baseball team?
- 37:19Speaker 6: You guys are headed to the Dominican Republic this week.
- 37:22Speaker 6: Is it this week? End of this week? Correct.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Correct. Uh, sorry, we go to Miami tomorrow and then
- 37:28Speaker 1: we fly out, play eight games in eight days. And, uh,
- 37:32Speaker 1: thank you again, AJ, if people don't know AJ was
- 37:34Speaker 1: a part of that. They helped us kind of mold
- 37:37Speaker 1: this team, and he was huge for us, and we're
- 37:39Speaker 1: looking forward to bringing him back. But, yes, we have
- 37:41Speaker 1: our Pan American Games, which is our qualifier. We qualify
- 37:45Speaker 1: in the DR. We go to China next year for
- 37:48Speaker 1: the World Championships. So this is my sixth or seventh
- 37:50Speaker 1: year doing this and looking forward to hopefully not getting
- 37:53Speaker 1: anybody thrown out of home.
- 37:54Speaker 4: All right, well, I just want to say good luck.
- 37:57Speaker 4: I don't know if Kip ever played for Team USA.
- 37:59Speaker 4: I never was fortunate enough to play for Team USA.
- 38:01Speaker 6: You won a gold medal.
- 38:02Speaker 4: 2002, I've heard your speech a million times. You still
- 38:04Speaker 4: cry like a baby every time you tell it. I mean,
- 38:07Speaker 4: it gets bigger and bigger. At one point, I mean,
- 38:09Speaker 4: I saw the home run. It barely went over the wall.
- 38:11Speaker 4: Now you tell it like it left Australia, like you
- 38:14Speaker 4: hit it to New Zealand. So, I mean, you know,
- 38:16Speaker 4: some things aren't always true. Like just because you're crying
- 38:19Speaker 4: doesn't mean the ball went farther.
- 38:21Speaker 1: The ball went way farther. The ball, I mean, I
- 38:23Speaker 1: know it's hard to see because it's on. That was
- 38:25Speaker 1: probably one of the hardest balls, farthest balls I've ever hit. But, yes,
- 38:28Speaker 1: that's hard to see because it's probably on a VCR
- 38:31Speaker 1: tape because it was so long ago. But yeah, you know,
- 38:35Speaker 1: it gets me choked up every time just because of
- 38:37Speaker 1: where I was in my career and what the Olympics
- 38:40Speaker 1: meant to my family. And, you know, just kind of
- 38:43Speaker 1: emotionally spent at the end of the year. And yeah,
- 38:46Speaker 1: every time I tell the story, it gets me back. And,
- 38:48Speaker 1: you know, thank you for pointing that out, AJ. I
- 38:50Speaker 1: appreciate that.
- 38:55Speaker 2: What's up?
- 38:56Speaker 5: What'd you say?
- 38:57Speaker 1: Maybe AJ had a heart. He would cry more often.
- 39:00Speaker 4: I cry all the time I can't even tell you
- 39:03Speaker 4: the last time I cried all the time I can't
- 39:09Speaker 4: even whine all the time but I can't even tell
- 39:11Speaker 4: you the last time I cried I'm trying to even
- 39:14Speaker 4: think about it I can't even tell you.
- 39:16Speaker 1: That's how blessed you are that's what that silver spoon
- 39:20Speaker 1: started a long time ago and it's still in there.
- 39:22Speaker 6: Or how black my heart is as some people would
- 39:24Speaker 6: tell me You know.
- 39:26Speaker 1: I always got your back no matter what people say
- 39:29Speaker 1: about you. I only believe 1%.
- 39:32Speaker 3: And just make sure in 2039, we have a book
- 39:36Speaker 3: coming out, the AJ Book of Wrongs.
- 39:38Speaker 5: Doug Mankiewicz with the 100-page forward.
- 39:42Speaker 7: W1.
- 39:43Speaker 4: We're working on this, guys.
- 39:45Speaker 3: Thank you. I've got guests joining me for the book. Doug,
- 39:48Speaker 3: good stuff, man. Thank you.
- 39:50Speaker 5: And we'll see if the Dodgers take your advice tonight.
- 39:53Speaker 1: All right. Thanks for having me.
- 39:54Speaker 3: I like to talk schedule when we talk SeatGeek. That's
- 39:58Speaker 3: the point here for these few minutes. During the season,
- 40:01Speaker 3: we try and find a ticket you want. This is
- 40:03Speaker 3: getting a little easier as there are not that many
- 40:04Speaker 3: games left. But we have dedicated this segment lately to
- 40:08Speaker 3: the weather. Kip, I don't know how closely you're paying
- 40:11Speaker 3: attention to the weather in Cleveland, but it could be
- 40:14Speaker 3: yet another opportunity for fans to take advantage on SeatGeek,
- 40:17Speaker 3: being that it looks like weather is going to be
- 40:19Speaker 3: an issue again in Cleveland for Game 4.
- 40:24Speaker 5: Maybe Game 5 too, they were hinting. I don't know.
- 40:26Speaker 5: I haven't looked that deeply.
- 40:28Speaker 3: What are we dealing with there, and do you think
- 40:30Speaker 3: that players and or fans are bothered by the weather
- 40:34Speaker 3: pushing their game to 1 o'clock, and they can't blame
- 40:37Speaker 3: the league, the TV networks. They can't blame anybody but
- 40:40Speaker 3: Mother Nature.
- 40:42Speaker 7: Yeah, I think if you ask anybody in Cleveland, they're
- 40:45Speaker 7: rather sensitive to rain delays since 2016. So they don't
- 40:52Speaker 7: love that any time it comes up. But listen, there's
- 40:54Speaker 7: nothing you can do about it. You just hope it's
- 40:57Speaker 7: on a weekend or at least a time where, hey,
- 41:00Speaker 7: if they're going to the game, they've set aside that
- 41:01Speaker 7: entire day to do it. just so they're a little
- 41:04Speaker 7: bit flexible and can still make the games. In Cleveland,
- 41:07Speaker 7: they're such good fans. They're going to be there regardless,
- 41:09Speaker 7: I think, because they're going to move heaven and earth
- 41:12Speaker 7: to get there and cheer on the team. That's how
- 41:14Speaker 7: good of fans they are. But they don't love the
- 41:17Speaker 7: idea of rain delays, and they definitely, when you spend
- 41:19Speaker 7: the hard-earned money and have set out to go cheer
- 41:22Speaker 7: in the playoffs, it's not ideal to have it be switched,
- 41:25Speaker 7: especially when you can't control anything or do anything about it.
- 41:32Speaker 6: Okay. Okay. Here's the thing.
- 41:33Speaker 4: I just said I've never been to Cleveland for three
- 41:35Speaker 4: days and not rain, so we're used to it.
- 41:36Speaker 6: You guys should be used to it. But I'm going
- 41:38Speaker 6: to say this. You want a Seat Geek? Here's your
- 41:40Speaker 6: Seat Geek.
- 41:41Speaker 4: You better go to the Dodger game tonight, boys and girls,
- 41:43Speaker 4: because it could all be over. That's it. You better
- 41:47Speaker 4: go to Seat Geek if you're in the L.A., California area,
- 41:49Speaker 4: and you want to see this Dodger team play maybe
- 41:52Speaker 4: for the last time this year. You better get your tickets,
- 41:55Speaker 4: and you better get there early. You better get there
- 41:57Speaker 4: in the first five innings, okay? Because– It could all
- 42:00Speaker 4: be over tonight. The dynasty could end tonight. The giant
- 42:03Speaker 4: could be slayed tonight, and there'll be a lot of
- 42:05Speaker 4: happy people, not Dodger fans.
- 42:08Speaker 5: You know who's all over SeatGeek right now? Brewers fans.
- 42:11Speaker 3: Seeing the percentage chance that they're going to witness some
- 42:14Speaker 3: World Series baseball for the first time since 1982. Those
- 42:18Speaker 3: tickets are flying right now in terms of avails or
- 42:23Speaker 3: if you've got them already because you're a season ticket holder.
- 42:25Speaker 3: Territory 10, 10% off tickets on SeatGeek. Trust me, SeatGeek
- 42:29Speaker 3: has it for you. Over 35 million downloads, number one
- 42:32Speaker 3: rated ticketing app, and that's your spot for World Series tickets.
- 42:36Speaker 3: Cleveland or Tampa Bay, depending on who wins it. Milwaukee
- 42:39Speaker 3: looking very likely on the other side. Hey, AJ, Ozzie's
- 42:44Speaker 3: writing a get well card to White Sox super fan,
- 42:48Speaker 3: Pope Leo, and we're all thinking about him.
- 42:52Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, yeah, this sucks. I mean, it was
- 42:55Speaker 6: a rough weekend in Chicago. White Sox lost.
- 42:58Speaker 4: Bears got smashed by the Packers, and we find out
- 43:02Speaker 4: that the Pope has lung cancer, which, I mean, he
- 43:04Speaker 4: had surgery, successful surgery, but you never want to hear
- 43:06Speaker 4: the C word. So hopefully he gets well soon. It's
- 43:09Speaker 4: very cool that Ozzie sent him that. Yeah, we're all
- 43:13Speaker 4: thinking about you. I mean, I would have sent him
- 43:14Speaker 4: a card too, but how do I know it's going
- 43:15Speaker 4: to get there? Like, where do you mail a card.
- 43:16Speaker 6: To the Pope?
- 43:17Speaker 1: Like, I didn't know.
- 43:19Speaker 4: Ozzie has a better pull than I do because he
- 43:21Speaker 4: can send it directly there. Mine would probably get lost
- 43:23Speaker 4: somewhere in the email.
- 43:24Speaker 6: So, yeah, get well, please. Pope Leo, we'll hopefully see
- 43:28Speaker 6: you again soon.
- 43:29Speaker 2: You have Paul.
- 43:30Speaker 5: You were with him.
- 43:31Speaker 3: So I'm sure there's, you know, you got to go
- 43:33Speaker 3: through the layers, the guy to the guy to the guy.
- 43:36Speaker 3: But somebody could get the message across.
- 43:38Speaker 5: And it's just Ozzie.
- 43:40Speaker 7: You could send it through Ozzie.
- 43:41Speaker 5: It might be a little louder.
- 43:43Speaker 6: Yeah, through Ozzie.
- 43:44Speaker 2: That's right.
- 43:45Speaker 5: Ozzie's the guy.
- 43:46Speaker 6: Get him on TV for sure.
- 43:49Speaker 5: Yeah, you can't miss Ozzie.
- 43:51Speaker 3: But yeah, we're thinking about Pope Leo, baseball super fan.
- 43:54Speaker 3: You know, it's been a cool story this year. Always
- 43:58Speaker 3: cool when you have certain celebrities or other people outside
- 44:01Speaker 3: of baseball that are just deeply in love with a
- 44:04Speaker 3: certain team or the sport itself. And this was definitely
- 44:07Speaker 3: a unique case this year that really took the Southside by.
- 44:11Speaker 2: Storm at times.
- 44:12Speaker 4: It should have.
- 44:14Speaker 5: A giveaway.
- 44:15Speaker 2: I know.
- 44:15Speaker 5: It was very cool. And AJ's visit, of course.
- 44:18Speaker 7: Imagine if he threw a first pitch.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Oh, man.
- 44:27Speaker 5: Let's sizzle.
- 44:28Speaker 2: Hot Corner Time.
- 44:28Speaker 3: It's presented by Fox One. You can watch the NLCS
- 44:32Speaker 3: and it's dwindling right now. For the Dodgers, the World
- 44:35Speaker 3: Series will be on Fox One as well. But Kip,
- 44:38Speaker 3: what's been your take? We've talked a lot about this.
- 44:40Speaker 3: We did a postgame show last night. We'll do another
- 44:41Speaker 3: one tonight. This is kind of serving this segment as
- 44:44Speaker 3: a pre-pre-game for what's going down tonight. Tyler Glass now,
- 44:48Speaker 3: part of a rotation with big names, but only one
- 44:51Speaker 3: team's ever come back from this 3-0 deficit.
- 44:53Speaker 5: Do you think the Dodgers have the.
- 44:57Speaker 2: Gas.
- 44:57Speaker 5: Forget the names. They have the gas. Years of playing
- 45:01Speaker 5: deep like this, is that taking a toll on them? Sure.
- 45:05Speaker 7: I think there's enough energy and adrenaline and stuff to
- 45:11Speaker 7: make a final push. If there was ever a lineup
- 45:13Speaker 7: to get through and to make a comeback, like Minkiewicz
- 45:16Speaker 7: said earlier, whether it's Glasnow to Skubal to Yamamoto to
- 45:21Speaker 7: whoever it may be, I think that's who I'd like
- 45:24Speaker 7: to turn the ball over to. But it's almost... it's a,
- 45:27Speaker 7: it's a two things can be true. I think the
- 45:28Speaker 7: Dodgers are running out of steam and their offense has
- 45:30Speaker 7: just gotten cold. And it's kind of, you look at
- 45:32Speaker 7: how playoffs play out. The people that lose is because
- 45:36Speaker 7: their offense has just gotten cold. Um, and then the
- 45:38Speaker 7: other side of it, Milwaukee just looks that good right now.
- 45:41Speaker 7: They just look like they're playing their best brand of baseball.
- 45:45Speaker 7: We talked at any time Dodgers scored the Milwaukee answered
- 45:49Speaker 7: right back. It looks like they have just come prepared
- 45:52Speaker 7: and wanted to return the favor from last year, losing
- 45:54Speaker 7: to them. And, um, They just look, I mean, you
- 45:58Speaker 7: can say that they don't have the better roster, but
- 46:00Speaker 7: they just look like the better team right now. Milwaukee does.
- 46:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:06Speaker 2: They're good.
- 46:07Speaker 6: Milwaukee's really good, by the way.
- 46:10Speaker 4: Milwaukee, anytime you don't hit, everyone says you don't have energy,
- 46:14Speaker 4: you're not excited, you're not up for the game. If
- 46:17Speaker 4: you get hits, guess what? Everyone gets excited. You can
- 46:19Speaker 4: go out there and win 1-0, and everyone's like, man,
- 46:22Speaker 4: look how excited that team is versus, and he scored
- 46:24Speaker 4: one more run than the other.
- 46:25Speaker 1: Team, so.
- 46:27Speaker 4: It's going to be interesting tonight to see how the
- 46:30Speaker 4: Dodgers react to this. They've got Glass now going against
- 46:32Speaker 4: a bullpen day for the Brewers. The Brewers have a
- 46:34Speaker 4: great bullpen. Let's see if the lineup can actually score
- 46:37Speaker 4: some runs.
- 46:38Speaker 6: Figure it out.
- 46:39Speaker 4: Show a back of the top of the lineup. Dave
- 46:41Speaker 4: Roberts is trying to mix it up a little bit.
- 46:43Speaker 4: Go back to the way things were. We'll see if
- 46:47Speaker 4: it works because they've got a long way to go
- 46:49Speaker 4: to try to win. Because if I'm betting on this,
- 46:51Speaker 4: which we obviously do every day, you're betting on the
- 46:53Speaker 4: Brewers to win this series. And it's been– Pretty much
- 46:57Speaker 4: a one-sided affair so far.
- 47:02Speaker 3: They asked media, somebody asked if Yamamoto or Scoogle would
- 47:06Speaker 3: be available.
- 47:07Speaker 5: Dave Roberts was like, no. This ain't game seven.
- 47:13Speaker 7: Yeah, and I just want to, it's almost, you always
- 47:16Speaker 7: hear about the Dodgers and buying the big free agents
- 47:19Speaker 7: and all the sexy picks with i.e. Scoogle and everyone,
- 47:23Speaker 7: but I think it's good that people are finally realizing
- 47:27Speaker 7: just how damn good Milwaukee is too. They won the
- 47:29Speaker 7: most games in the league this year. They were the
- 47:31Speaker 7: best team in the league this year. I think they
- 47:33Speaker 7: just made, you always hear small markets. So they don't
- 47:35Speaker 7: maybe get their full credit. They are good in every
- 47:38Speaker 7: facet of this game.
- 47:41Speaker 2: Let's do this.
- 47:41Speaker 7: Murph was my manager in college. He's going to have
- 47:44Speaker 7: them ready to play and ready to run through a
- 47:46Speaker 7: wall every single game.
- 47:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 47:48Speaker 5: I mean, you played for Murph. How do you think
- 47:51Speaker 5: he's handling game four?
- 47:55Speaker 7: It's tough. I think he'd like to end this here
- 47:59Speaker 7: and now. I don't think he wants to go to five.
- 48:01Speaker 7: I think he'd love to rest Miz and all of
- 48:03Speaker 7: his bullpen guys, so I think it'll play out. The
- 48:07Speaker 7: first four or five innings will decide if Dodgers are
- 48:11Speaker 7: up maybe a few runs. I think then you see
- 48:13Speaker 7: him punt on it and maybe not use those guys,
- 48:15Speaker 7: but if it's a high game or a one-run game,
- 48:17Speaker 7: I think he's going to bring out his big boys
- 48:19Speaker 7: and keep them close because he's going to expect his
- 48:20Speaker 7: offense to to score some runs and get them right
- 48:23Speaker 7: back on the lead. And he'd like to put it
- 48:25Speaker 7: away now to give those guys maybe a little bit
- 48:28Speaker 7: longer rest and have his rotation, his bullpen set up
- 48:31Speaker 7: for the world series though. So I don't, it's Pat Murphy.
- 48:34Speaker 7: He's not looking to lose any game that he goes into.
- 48:36Speaker 7: So he, if he can win this one and end
- 48:39Speaker 7: it here and now he will.
- 48:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 48:43Speaker 3: AJ, I'm sure he'd love to not have Ms. Start
- 48:45Speaker 3: again in this series.
- 48:46Speaker 4: Yes.
- 48:48Speaker 5: Yes. Yeah, I'm not just saying for winning. I'm saying
- 48:50Speaker 5: for preservation, too.
- 48:52Speaker 4: Just preservation, and you don't want to give them any breath, man.
- 48:57Speaker 4: You've all seen the Kevin Millar clip where he's like,
- 48:59Speaker 4: don't let us get one, don't let us get one,
- 49:01Speaker 4: don't let us get one.
- 49:02Speaker 6: He's telling everybody.
- 49:03Speaker 4: And that's what Dave Roberts is walking around telling his players.
- 49:06Speaker 4: Don't let us get one, guys. And Pat Murphy's saying,
- 49:09Speaker 4: don't let them get one. You heard Ozzie Guillen tell
- 49:10Speaker 4: the story. He's told us a bunch of times, like
- 49:13Speaker 4: I said the other day. He told us before we
- 49:15Speaker 4: swept the Astros. You don't think the Astros ever won
- 49:17Speaker 4: four games in a row, guys?
- 49:19Speaker 6: To get to the world. Series? Let's go.
- 49:21Speaker 4: And we went out and won that fourth game and
- 49:23Speaker 4: swept the Astros in the World Series. So one side saying, hey,
- 49:27Speaker 4: we can do this, and the other side, the Brewers,
- 49:30Speaker 4: is saying don't give them any hope. Jump on them early.
- 49:33Speaker 4: Put this game away early, boys, and don't give the
- 49:36Speaker 4: Dodgers any hope because I'll tell you this right now.
- 49:38Speaker 4: If the Dodgers jump out, I mean, excuse me, if
- 49:40Speaker 4: the Brewers jump out to a.
- 49:41Speaker 6: Lead in this game, you will see.
- 49:43Speaker 1: Big dogs coming.
- 49:44Speaker 4: You will just, no, you'll just see everybody from the Dodgers,
- 49:47Speaker 4: they'll start booing, the fans will start getting them, and
- 49:50Speaker 4: the pressure will just come and come and come on
- 49:54Speaker 4: the Dodgers, and it's going to change.
- 49:55Speaker 6: You know this, Kip.
- 49:56Speaker 4: You know how it goes, man. When it's an elimination game,
- 49:59Speaker 4: you fall behind, all the pressure gets on you.
- 50:02Speaker 2: It does.
- 50:02Speaker 7: That's why we've talked about it actually before, where it's
- 50:04Speaker 7: just like those home playoff games, those like, Let's go
- 50:08Speaker 7: turns into like, let's go. Like it's almost like a
- 50:11Speaker 7: begging almost where they, and they start to turn and
- 50:13Speaker 7: they start to get pissed on their home crowd. And no,
- 50:16Speaker 7: I agree with you. I said vice versa, the Milwaukee,
- 50:18Speaker 7: the big dogs would be coming out then if they
- 50:20Speaker 7: get a little lead on this and they'll look to
- 50:21Speaker 7: end that there now.
- 50:22Speaker 1: Oh yeah.

- 50:45Speaker 3: Hey, let's slap and let's shout out some of the
- 50:48Speaker 3: cool Cleveland guardians designs that we've got on territory shop.com.
- 50:53Speaker 5: What's your favorite of the four that we have listed here?
- 50:57Speaker 7: Uh, that's a lot. There's a cool shirt, but that
- 51:01Speaker 7: J Ram with those, I like that at all. Anime
- 51:03Speaker 7: J Ram.
- 51:05Speaker 5: Yeah, the animated Jose Ramirez. You got DeLauder. That's like
- 51:08Speaker 5: the classic. Petey flipping. That's the fresh one on the left.
- 51:12Speaker 5: The bat flip.
- 51:15Speaker 6: Yeah, Petey flipping.
- 51:16Speaker 1: Come on.
- 51:18Speaker 7: They'll have him at Cleveland.
- 51:19Speaker 2: You would like that.
- 51:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 51:21Speaker 5: And then you got the classic hit the Quan. This
- 51:24Speaker 5: team's got it right now.
- 51:27Speaker 6: They got it all going.
- 51:28Speaker 7: I mean, again, if they can get like contributions like
- 51:32Speaker 7: they are from the bottom of the order or, or
- 51:35Speaker 7: some big swings out of Patrick Bailey and, and helping
- 51:37Speaker 7: like that, uh, this lineup start to pick up games.
- 51:43Speaker 7: If they can feed off that to match their pitching,
- 51:45Speaker 7: they are a tough team to beat.
- 51:48Speaker 3: The game three that they just won, like Kit mentioned
- 51:51Speaker 3: is exactly the brand of baseball that they play and
- 51:54Speaker 3: where they thrive. That one run win, that one Homer,
- 51:58Speaker 3: that bullpen lights out that four out save every day.
- 52:01Speaker 2: Cade, Good stuff.
- 52:02Speaker 3: We'll see people tonight on the postgame show after the
- 52:05Speaker 3: NLCS game four concludes.
