- 0:00Speaker 1: Now, there has been so much discussion, obviously over the
- 0:03Speaker 1: last few days about the latest COVID cluster here in
- 0:07Speaker 1: the Northern Territory, four cases at the moment, and joining
- 0:11Speaker 1: me on the line, Scott, who is the fourth case?
- 0:16Speaker 1: Get a Scott? It is not too bad, mate, but
- 0:20Speaker 1: I'm probably better by better than you by the sounds
- 0:23Speaker 1: of aush.
- 0:25Speaker 2: It's got a good thing, mate.
- 0:27Speaker 1: So you're the fourth case of COVID in the Northern
- 0:30Speaker 1: Territory right now.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it mild apparently a mild case, but I'd
- 0:37Speaker 2: hate to see what it was like to be a
- 0:40Speaker 2: low case.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Yeah right. So are you So you're out at Howard
- 0:43Speaker 1: Springs at the moment.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Scott, I'm in quarantine. I'm in the red zone they
- 0:50Speaker 2: call it. Not the place is okay, but I'd prefer
- 0:54Speaker 2: not to be here, you know, continue on normal life.
- 1:00Speaker 1: How are you feeling like? Are you Are you quite crook?
- 1:03Speaker 1: How are your symptoms?
- 1:06Speaker 2: Yeah? It does knock you up. I'm double vaccinated. I've
- 1:11Speaker 2: been vaccinated since July yep, and I'm probably glad I
- 1:16Speaker 2: have been the first couple of days that certainly wiped
- 1:19Speaker 2: me out in time, hopefully. Yeah. On the upside of
- 1:24Speaker 2: it now, certainly it packed your respiratory system, that's for sure.
- 1:29Speaker 1: So what like I suppose for you know, for me
- 1:32Speaker 1: and for everybody out there listening, like, what is it like?
- 1:34Speaker 1: Is it like having a really bad flu or what
- 1:38Speaker 1: kind of symptoms did you have?
- 1:41Speaker 2: Okay? So I just started off with a bit of
- 1:42Speaker 2: a tingling throat and then yeah, I just into a
- 1:46Speaker 2: headache and then as it goes on, just ache all over.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Certainly got fame symptoms of a couple of other cases there,
- 1:56Speaker 2: but a cold, fevers and yeah, it's it would be
- 2:02Speaker 2: like a major blue yeah.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Right, and you are double vaccinated, so I would imagine
- 2:10Speaker 1: that it'd be worse if you weren't, Oh I guess, so.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Yeah, especially if you've got rectory, you know, if you're
- 2:16Speaker 2: nasimotic for something. Absolutely no, it wouldn't be.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Now, So for you, how did you? How did you
- 2:26Speaker 1: end up with COVID?
- 2:28Speaker 2: Okay, so we're actually we're contractors working on Kindle and
- 2:35Speaker 2: we have a sharehouse the every employees work and sorry
- 2:40Speaker 2: and obviously the one of our employees, you know, obviously
- 2:45Speaker 2: it was tied up with this young lady and just
- 2:48Speaker 2: went out socializing whatever they do and yeah, and he
- 2:53Speaker 2: came down cooked from the first on the Monday Tuesday,
- 2:56Speaker 2: and yeah, it sort of went from there. So yeah, yes,
- 3:04Speaker 2: So then how.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Did you sort of find out did you did you
- 3:07Speaker 1: start to have symptoms or did you have to go
- 3:10Speaker 1: out there to Howard Springs.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Yeah, so on the of the young fellow's crook, so
- 3:16Speaker 2: we had just got COVID tests. He did the right
- 3:19Speaker 2: thing and he went really good of him, but he
- 3:22Speaker 2: did that. Ye, and there we got tests on Thursday
- 3:25Speaker 2: and then yeah, we were on police guard from Thursday
- 3:29Speaker 2: Thursday afternoon and then they shipped us all to Howard
- 3:34Speaker 2: spring So there's a tale of it. There's six of
- 3:38Speaker 2: us things here, yep. And there's other staff members that
- 3:41Speaker 2: are isolating at home.
- 3:44Speaker 1: And so obviously at this point it's the four positive cases.
- 3:48Speaker 1: But as you've pointed out, you know, close contacts, so
- 3:51Speaker 1: there's a few of you out there. What's that meant
- 3:54Speaker 1: for you in terms of the impact like on on
- 3:57Speaker 1: work and business?
- 3:59Speaker 2: Yeah, it's maths like so, I mean, you know, we're
- 4:03Speaker 2: doing a fairy big job in tender and that's just
- 4:05Speaker 2: come to a full holped financially, it's crippling. We can't
- 4:12Speaker 2: get none of us can get back on on site.
- 4:17Speaker 2: And as I'm the owner of the business.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Yeah myself, you know, yeah, it has a big impact
- 4:26Speaker 1: then on you. Yeah mate, yeah mate, what's it like?
- 4:33Speaker 1: Like how are you going? Do you have like have
- 4:35Speaker 1: you got a family? And and what's it been like,
- 4:37Speaker 1: you know for for your family and friends?
- 4:41Speaker 2: Oh yeah, it's pretty for long, you know, and then
- 4:43Speaker 2: that could be three weeks before I even get out
- 4:45Speaker 2: of here. Both times we have the negative how long
- 4:49Speaker 2: is that going to take? So yeah, we really don't
- 4:54Speaker 2: know playing the waking game really.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Yeah, you know obviously like we don't want to be
- 5:00Speaker 1: you know, sort of nasty in our comments, but are
- 5:02Speaker 1: you quite frustrated about you know, how this is all
- 5:06Speaker 1: unfolded and somebody coming into the territory you know in line?
- 5:10Speaker 2: Really? Yeah, absolutely, you know it's you know, just a
- 5:15Speaker 2: just a knowing that you've done it to me. It's
- 5:19Speaker 2: just like how can you even command that? You know,
- 5:24Speaker 2: there's no I don't think this person even understands what's happened,
- 5:30Speaker 2: you know, with livelihoods.
- 5:31Speaker 1: And yeah, and it's been so tough, you know, even
- 5:35Speaker 1: yesterday we caught up with Tony Innes from you know,
- 5:38Speaker 1: the noon of mar tavern out there and the impact
- 5:40Speaker 1: that it has obviously on businesses when they've got a
- 5:43Speaker 1: close it's massive, Oh.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Absolutely, you know, and we've got an earthman in business,
- 5:48Speaker 2: and we've got millions of dollars worth of machines just
- 5:50Speaker 2: getting there on at the moment. Yeah, we can't even
- 5:55Speaker 2: you can't even get on there, and of course it's
- 5:57Speaker 2: taken out of their crew up. Yeah.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Oh, Scott, I feel for you, mate. It must be
- 6:05Speaker 1: really like really tough going for you and obviously no
- 6:09Speaker 1: fault of your own. You know, you've done everything right
- 6:12Speaker 1: as you've said as well double vax. But feeling pretty crook.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Oh yeah, absolutely. Hopefully in the by the weekend, you know,
- 6:20Speaker 2: it should be up on the upside, coming up out
- 6:22Speaker 2: of it hopefully. Yeah. Yeah. Other than that, it is
- 6:26Speaker 2: what it is, isn't it.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Well, mate, I'm thank you so much for getting in
- 6:31Speaker 1: contact with US. I actually think it really provides you know,
- 6:35Speaker 1: everybody listening this morning with that real perspective of the
- 6:39Speaker 1: impact that this kind of thing has on on territorians
- 6:43Speaker 1: like yourself.
- 6:45Speaker 2: Yeah, Katie, thank you, thanks mate, thank you very.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Much for contacting US. I hope you're feeling better soon.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Can you give us a call over the next couple
- 6:54Speaker 1: of days and let us know how you're going.
