January 10 - When Hearing Becomes Obedience · Bible Chat Devotional

• 0:02
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
• 0:06
rooted in scripture and relevant for today, January 10th.
• 0:11
Stay solid when life shakes. Have you ever built something
• 0:14
you were proud of, only to watch it fall apart when pressure hit?
• 0:18
Maybe it was a plan that didn't work out, a relationship that
• 0:21
didn't last, or confidence that crumbled the moment things got
• 0:24
hard. Life has a way of shaking what
• 0:26
we build, and when it does, it quickly reveals whether our
• 0:29
foundation was solid or just convenient.
• 0:32
Jesus paints A vivid picture in Matthew Chapter 7.
• 0:36
He talks about two people who both hear his words.
• 0:39
On the outside. They look the same, but there's
• 0:41
one key difference. One actually lives out what
• 0:44
Jesus says and the other doesn't.
• 0:47
Jesus says the one who hears his words and does not do them is
• 0:50
like a man who built his house on sand.
• 0:53
When the storms came, and they did, the house collapsed.
• 0:56
It wasn't the storm that caused the failure, it was the
• 0:59
foundation. Proverbs chapter 3 verses 25 to
• 1:03
26 speak straight into our fear when life feels unstable.
• 1:07
Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the
• 1:09
wicked when it comes, for the Lord will be your confidence and
• 1:13
will keep your foot from being caught.
• 1:15
Notice what God doesn't say. He doesn't say trouble won't
• 1:18
come. He says you don't have to be
• 1:20
  afraid when it does. Why?
• 1:22
Because the Lord himself is your confidence, not your
• 1:24
circumstances, not your emotions, not how strong you
• 1:27
feel that day. God is the one keeping you
• 1:30
steady. Storms will come, pressure will
• 1:33
rise, unexpected news will hit. Fear will try to get loud.
• 1:37
But when your life is anchored in Jesus, when his words shape
• 1:40
your choices, your reactions, your habits and your values, you
• 1:43
don't fall apart. When things shake, you may bend,
• 1:46
you may feel the wind, but you stand.
• 1:49
Staying solid isn't about pretending everything is fine.
• 1:52
It's about trusting the one who holds you when everything isn't.
• 1:56
It's about choosing obedience over convenience, truth over
• 1:59
feelings, and faith over fear. Especially when it's hard.
• 2:02
When Jesus is your foundation, chaos doesn't get the final
• 2:05
  word. Let's pray.
• 2:07
Heavenly Father, thank you for being the solid foundation my
• 2:10
life can stand on. Teach me not just to hear your
• 2:13
words, but to live them out daily when fear rises and life
• 2:17
feels unstable. Help me trust you as my
• 2:19
confidence and my security. Strengthen my faith so I can
• 2:23
stand firm no matter what shakes around me.
• 2:26
In Jesus name, Amen. What if the ache you feel for
• 2:30
more is actually God calling you deeper?

• 3:50
Proverbs chapter 3 verses 21 to 26 World English Bible.
• 3:55
My son, let them not depart from your eyes.
• 3:58
Keep sound wisdom and discretion, so they will be life
• 4:01
to your soul and grace for your neck.
• 4:03
Then you shall walk in your way securely.
• 4:05
Your foot won't stumble when you lie down.
• 4:07
You will not be afraid. Yes, you will lie down and your
• 4:10
sleep will be sweet. Don't be afraid of sudden fear.
• 4:13
Neither of the desolation of the wicked when it comes for Yahweh
• 4:17
will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being taken.
• 4:20
Matthew Chapter 7 World English Bible Don't judge so that you
• 4:25
won't be judged. For with whatever judgement you
• 4:27
judge, you will be judged, and with whatever measure you
• 4:30
measure, it will be measured to you.
• 4:32
Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but don't
• 4:35
consider the beam that is in your own eye?
• 4:38
Or how will you tell your brother, Let me remove the speck
• 4:40
from your eye and behold the beam is in your own eye.
• 4:44
You hypocrite. First remove the beam out of
• 4:46
your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck
• 4:49
out of your brother's eye. Don't give that which is holy to
• 4:52
the dogs, neither throw your pearls before the pigs, lest
• 4:55
perhaps they trample them under their feet and turn and tear you
• 4:58
to pieces. Ask and it will be given.
• 5:01
You seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be open for
• 5:05
you. For everyone who asks, receives.
• 5:07
He who seeks finds to him who knocks it will be opened.
• 5:11
Or who is there among you, who, if his son asks him for bread,
• 5:14
will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, who
• 5:17
will give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know
• 5:21
how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will
• 5:23
your Father, who is in heaven give good things to those who
• 5:26
ask him? Therefore, whatever you desire
• 5:29
for men to do to you, you shall also do to them.
• 5:32
For this is the law. And the prophets.
• 5:34
Enter in by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide, and the
• 5:37
way is broad. That leads to destruction, and
• 5:40
there are many who enter in by it.
• 5:42
How narrow is the gate? And the way is restricted that
• 5:44
leads to life. There are few who find it.
• 5:47
Beware of false prophets who come to you in sheep's clothing
• 5:50
  but inwardly are ravening wolves.
• 5:52
By their fruits you will know them.
• 5:54
Do you gather grapes from thorns or figs from thistles?
• 5:58
Even so, every good tree produces good fruit, but the
• 6:01
  corrupt tree produces evil fruit.
• 6:03
A good tree can't produce evil fruit, neither can a corrupt
• 6:06
tree produce good fruit. Every tree that doesn't grow
• 6:09
good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
• 6:12
Therefore by their fruits you will know them.
• 6:15
Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter into the
• 6:19
Kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who
• 6:22
is in heaven. Many will tell me in that day,
• 6:24
Lord, Lord, didn't we prophecy in your name, in your name cast
• 6:28
out demons, and in your name do many mighty works?
• 6:31
Then I will tell them, I never knew you.
• 6:33
Depart from me You who work iniquity.
• 6:36
Everyone, therefore who hears these words of mine and does
• 6:39
them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the
• 6:42
rock. The rain came down, the floods
• 6:45
came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, and it
• 6:48
didn't fall, for it was founded on the rock.
• 6:50
Everyone who hears these words of mine and doesn't do them will
• 6:53
be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.
• 6:57
The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew and
• 7:00
beat on that house and it fell and it's fall was great.
• 7:04
When Jesus had finished saying these things, the multitudes
• 7:07
were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them with
• 7:10
authority and not like the scribes.
