- 0:09Speaker 1: Hey, what's happened? Everyone? Welcome into this edition of the
- 0:12Speaker 1: check O Deli.
- 0:13Speaker 2: It's Andrew to Checko here from Inside the Birds dot com.
- 0:16Speaker 2: And while it may be the Eagles bye week, it
- 0:19Speaker 2: is not a bye week for Inside the Birds. And
- 0:22Speaker 2: while I may have taken a little bit of time
- 0:25Speaker 2: for some downtime in the marathon that is an NFL season,
- 0:29Speaker 2: We're getting things ramped back up here with the trade
- 0:31Speaker 2: deadline fast approaching very quickly. I want to give a
- 0:34Speaker 2: shout out to Kevin, one of our loyal listeners, and
- 0:38Speaker 2: he came out to our WBCB show Tuesday last Tuesday
- 0:43Speaker 2: at Chickens and Pete's in Marlton. It was great to
- 0:46Speaker 2: finally meet Kevin and get a chance to chop it
- 0:49Speaker 2: up with them for a little bit. I always appreciate
- 0:51Speaker 2: the support from not onek Kevin, but everyone from the
- 0:53Speaker 2: ITB orbit much appreciated. And another thing that's important to
- 0:59Speaker 2: mention here is that Brandon Graham that two game, which
- 1:03Speaker 2: is really a two week exemption since he joined the
- 1:06Speaker 2: Eagles and signed back, it expires on November third, Monday,
- 1:10Speaker 2: November third, so the Eagles have to make a move
- 1:12Speaker 2: there and activate Brandon to the fifty three man roster,
- 1:16Speaker 2: so keep an eye on that that should be forthcoming.
- 1:19Speaker 1: But let's talk about the trade deadline.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Because the Eagles added cornerback Michael Carter, and some of
- 1:26Speaker 2: my thoughts on that acquisition is that it is and
- 1:29Speaker 2: it's intriguing in the sense that it adds some optionality
- 1:32Speaker 2: to the secondary and you don't want to get too
- 1:34Speaker 2: far ahead of yourselves and just assume that that means
- 1:38Speaker 2: Cooper de Gene will be moving to the outside. Now
- 1:40Speaker 2: that's not to suggest that there won't be matchups or
- 1:43Speaker 2: instances where he will be, and he already is on
- 1:46Speaker 2: the outside in base down situations. But I think Michael
- 1:50Speaker 2: Carter gives them a player that he can play nickel,
- 1:54Speaker 2: he can play safety.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Most of his snaps from his career.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Have come via nickel, and I liked him coming out
- 2:00Speaker 2: of college when he came out of Duke in the
- 2:01Speaker 2: fifth round in twenty twenty one. Obvious ties there with
- 2:04Speaker 2: Joe Douglas, who is no longer there in New York,
- 2:07Speaker 2: but he's in Philadelphia, of course, so there's some familiarity there.
- 2:11Speaker 2: I like the player in the sense that he's pretty
- 2:14Speaker 2: sticky in coverage, he's smart, he hasn't had the I
- 2:19Speaker 2: guess the stats over the last couple of seasons. He
- 2:21Speaker 2: hasn't performed to the standard that he set earlier in
- 2:25Speaker 2: his career. But I think in Philadelphia, playing under Christian Parker,
- 2:29Speaker 2: the Eagles defensive backs coach, and Roy Anderson, the cornerbacks coach,
- 2:32Speaker 2: who I've lauded for their ability to teach and hone
- 2:36Speaker 2: in on the details of the position, the fundamentals, I
- 2:39Speaker 2: think that he could sort of find his way and
- 2:42Speaker 2: redefine himself in Philadelphia.
- 2:46Speaker 1: But you never want to get too carried away.
- 2:48Speaker 2: You look at some past trades that I think some
- 2:50Speaker 2: folks maybe took it a round with it before you
- 2:53Speaker 2: were able to see how they fit into the equation,
- 2:55Speaker 2: like John Metchi or Jacoreyan Bennett.
- 2:58Speaker 1: You have to let things play out a little bit.
- 3:00Speaker 2: But he does give the Eagles a player who has
- 3:02Speaker 2: positional versatility and can allow Vic Vanji to do some
- 3:06Speaker 2: things at corner that when you look at what they
- 3:10Speaker 2: have there, they have Jacoryan Bennett coming back, Dori Jackson,
- 3:14Speaker 2: Keiley ring goes there. But if they're not satisfied with
- 3:18Speaker 2: any of their outside corners, it gives them that that
- 3:21Speaker 2: option to move Degene outside and maybe put Carter at
- 3:26Speaker 2: the nickel role, but we have to see how he fits.
- 3:28Speaker 2: He still has to learn the defense. But it's certainly
- 3:31Speaker 2: a low risk move for the Eagles, and it's something
- 3:35Speaker 2: that when you look at Howie Roseman the offseason that
- 3:37Speaker 2: he had, that's a move that kind of aligns with
- 3:40Speaker 2: a lot of what he's done. You're bringing in someone
- 3:43Speaker 2: who has potential upside and it doesn't cost you a
- 3:46Speaker 2: whole lot to bring them in. So we'll see how
- 3:49Speaker 2: that all transpires. But right now, I think you have
- 3:51Speaker 2: to give that trade thumbs up, but be cautious in
- 3:55Speaker 2: how you view Michael Carter and how he fits into
- 3:58Speaker 2: the defense until you see and learn a little bit
- 4:01Speaker 2: more in terms of how Vic Vangio chooses to deploy
- 4:04Speaker 2: him and how that affects the overall complexion of the secondary. Now,
- 4:10Speaker 2: I still maintain that edge rusher is the priority and
- 4:15Speaker 2: going into the trade deadline, if you remember one of
- 4:18Speaker 2: my podcasts, I had my top three areas of need,
- 4:21Speaker 2: at least in my view, and that was edge rusher
- 4:24Speaker 2: at one, reserve, offensive line help, and cornerback at three.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Now reserve offensive line help and expand on this a
- 4:32Speaker 2: little bit.
- 4:33Speaker 1: The Eagles have proven that they.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Have two players they can count on behind the starters,
- 4:37Speaker 2: and Brett Toth who can kind of do everything, and
- 4:40Speaker 2: Fred Johnson who now has a role in jumbo packages,
- 4:44Speaker 2: and I think that's going to continue to expand after
- 4:46Speaker 2: the bye week.
- 4:47Speaker 1: But beyond that, Matt.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Pryor is someone who hasn't met expectations. And if you
- 4:53Speaker 2: plug him in and he's really a right side guy,
- 4:56Speaker 2: I can't imagine that you're going to have a whole
- 4:58Speaker 2: lot of confidence that he's gonna be able to go
- 4:59Speaker 2: out there and execute the offense to the point where
- 5:03Speaker 2: there aren't going to be noticeable limitations you have to
- 5:06Speaker 2: take into account when he's on the field, and maybe
- 5:08Speaker 2: you're not able to have the full menual plays at
- 5:11Speaker 2: your disposal. And Drew Kendall, the rookie, isn't someone who
- 5:14Speaker 2: the Eagles seem inclined on getting involved early in the
- 5:20Speaker 2: early in his career, because that's kind of been the
- 5:23Speaker 2: mo for Jeff stoutlind He doesn't like to lean on
- 5:26Speaker 2: rookie offensive linemen, and especially when they drafted Drew Kendall,
- 5:30Speaker 2: it was always my expectation that he was here to
- 5:33Speaker 2: grow and develop behind the scenes and not necessarily be
- 5:37Speaker 2: counted on to be a reserve offensive lineman on game day.
- 5:42Speaker 2: So that's why that's a second priority for me, especially
- 5:46Speaker 2: when you look at the health status. That's sort of
- 5:49Speaker 2: been a prevailing theme for the offensive line throughout the season.
- 5:52Speaker 2: They've been really banged up, and I think that that
- 5:55Speaker 2: should behoove the Eagles to try to address that if
- 5:58Speaker 2: you get the opportunity. Of course, u O Petta, he's
- 6:01Speaker 2: played in thirty eight games for the Eagles.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Start at ten. I believe he's on the.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Practice squad, So they're trying to find different ways to
- 6:08Speaker 2: add to that group and cost effective measures. But that's
- 6:11Speaker 2: why that's number two for me, and then number three
- 6:13Speaker 2: at corner.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Hey, Philly fans. Game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,
- 6:19Speaker 3: long lines, We've all been there. But when it comes
- 6:21Speaker 3: to your cannabis, Camden Apothecary makes it easy. This is
- 6:26Speaker 3: the dispensary for sports fans, just minutes outside of Philly,
- 6:30Speaker 3: with plenty of free parking.
- 6:32Speaker 1: You'll be in and out.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Fast, no hassle, no waiting, and they don't just care
- 6:36Speaker 3: about convenience. Camden Apothecary is all about the guest experience.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Their staff makes sure you feel taken care of every
- 6:44Speaker 3: time you walk in. Plus, they carry only the best
- 6:47Speaker 3: quality cannabis at the fairest prices, So whether you're stocking
- 6:52Speaker 3: up for the tailgate, the watch party, or celebrating a
- 6:55Speaker 3: big win, you know you're getting the good stuff without
- 6:58Speaker 3: overpaying even show love to the community with specials for fans, students,
- 7:04Speaker 3: service members, and healthcare pros can then Apothecary top quality cannabis,
- 7:09Speaker 3: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans twenty
- 7:13Speaker 3: one and up.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean they have three players there. They need
- 7:17Speaker 2: to be better at that position. But if you're able
- 7:19Speaker 2: to enhance the pass rush, that alleviates and takes some
- 7:22Speaker 2: of a spotlight off of cornerback two, and the addition
- 7:26Speaker 2: of Michael Carter gives them some more flexibility there. So
- 7:29Speaker 2: that's why that's a little bit further down in the
- 7:30Speaker 2: pecking order. You know, at least in my estimation, Edge Rusher,
- 7:36Speaker 2: that's a group that you would like to see the
- 7:39Speaker 2: Eagles add to, and they do have reinforcements coming in
- 7:42Speaker 2: the in the form of Noan Smith, who is expected
- 7:46Speaker 2: back sometime in November, and I think he did some
- 7:48Speaker 2: really good things in terms of run support, very physical,
- 7:52Speaker 2: he sets the edge with authority. He should be coming
- 7:55Speaker 2: back sometime in November, so that's going to be a plus.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Remember entering the season, he was the headline of this group.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Then you have Brandon Graham. I mentioned about the two
- 8:05Speaker 2: week or two game roster exemption that expires November three.
- 8:09Speaker 2: He's going to be back into the mix here and
- 8:12Speaker 2: help the Eagles and add to that pass rush group.
- 8:15Speaker 2: But I still think that they need to add another
- 8:17Speaker 2: player to further enrich it and give them a player
- 8:22Speaker 2: that now allows players like jay loox Hunt to see
- 8:26Speaker 2: a reduction in his snaps and Nolan Smith when he returns,
- 8:30Speaker 2: a reduction in his snaps because injuries have been sort
- 8:33Speaker 2: of a prevailing theme for him and the way that
- 8:36Speaker 2: he plays the game lends itself to being susceptible to injuries.
- 8:41Speaker 2: So I look at a situation like the Miami Dolphins
- 8:45Speaker 2: with Jalen Phillips and Bradley Chubb. That's an obvious situation
- 8:49Speaker 2: that's not groundbreaking or breaking news. But when you look
- 8:52Speaker 2: at a team like that that's in flux, they don't
- 8:55Speaker 2: have their general manager. I think that that's a situation
- 8:58Speaker 2: that's ripe for a trade, and I look at Jalen
- 9:02Speaker 2: Phillips and Bradley Chubb as two logical fits here in Philadelphia.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Bradley Chubb not only has experience with Vic Fangio and Miami,
- 9:11Speaker 2: but also dating back to their time with the Broncos
- 9:14Speaker 2: when he was the Broncos head coach.
- 9:16Speaker 1: So he's an older player.
- 9:18Speaker 2: He's suffered a lot of injuries in his career, but
- 9:20Speaker 2: he's been remarkably productive and it probably wouldn't cost all
- 9:23Speaker 2: that much for the Eagles to bring someone like that in,
- 9:25Speaker 2: and that would be a perfect fastball to add to
- 9:28Speaker 2: the contingent of players the Eagles already have. I personally
- 9:32Speaker 2: like Jalen Phillips a little bit more now prior to
- 9:35Speaker 2: this season, and he started all nine games the past
- 9:39Speaker 2: two years. Prior he played a combined twelve games. So
- 9:42Speaker 2: injuries have been something that has hindered his progression in
- 9:46Speaker 2: the NFL, and I think that that's something to be mindful.
- 9:50Speaker 2: But at twenty six years old, three sacks this year,
- 9:54Speaker 2: and he's able to pressure the quarterback. He has a
- 9:56Speaker 2: number of quarterback Hits. I like his bend. I think
- 10:00Speaker 2: he adds much more of a diverse skill set, and
- 10:03Speaker 2: he's younger than Bradley Chubb. But both players come with
- 10:07Speaker 2: injury concerns, injury tags that I think we all should
- 10:10Speaker 2: be mindful of.
- 10:11Speaker 1: I think that that would be a player.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Who might give you a little bit more of a splash,
- 10:17Speaker 2: a little bit more of an untapped potential, a higher
- 10:20Speaker 2: ceiling than that of Bradley Chubb. But I don't think
- 10:22Speaker 2: anyone would dispute that either player would help the Eagles
- 10:26Speaker 2: in a tangible way. Now, the name that you hear
- 10:29Speaker 2: a lot now is Miles Garrett, and I think Miles
- 10:32Speaker 2: Garrett is a pipe dream.
- 10:33Speaker 1: It's a pie in the sky, if you will.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Of course, the Eagles would do whatever it takes to
- 10:39Speaker 2: bring in a player like that, so would any team,
- 10:42Speaker 2: But it takes two to tango. And if the Browns
- 10:45Speaker 2: are reluctant to part with someone like that who is
- 10:47Speaker 2: a cornerstone piece, even though the Browns aren't necessarily a
- 10:50Speaker 2: good football team, it doesn't seem very likely they'd be
- 10:54Speaker 2: willing to move off of someone like Miles Garrett. But
- 10:57Speaker 2: that's a player that the Eagles have notably had interest
- 11:00Speaker 2: in and every team will when you have a player
- 11:03Speaker 2: of that caliber, but it just doesn't seem very likely.
- 11:06Speaker 1: I don't think that's happening.
- 11:08Speaker 2: But that's not to say that should preclude the Eagles
- 11:10Speaker 2: from trying to swing and add another player.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Now. I think there's different tiers to this.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Right if you're the Eagles, you don't want to get
- 11:18Speaker 2: a middling player who's had sporadic production in his career because, frankly,
- 11:23Speaker 2: how much better is that going to help your pass
- 11:26Speaker 2: rush core? How much of an impact is that player
- 11:29Speaker 2: going to make. There's also another wrinkle into this that
- 11:33Speaker 2: everyone should have to everyone should be considering, and that
- 11:36Speaker 2: is when you add a player that also creates a
- 11:40Speaker 2: roster and influx of players there, and it makes you
- 11:45Speaker 2: wonder how they're going to how they're going to figure
- 11:47Speaker 2: this out, because if they add another pass rusher, I
- 11:49Speaker 2: know everyone seems to be at least of the assumption
- 11:53Speaker 2: that Patrick Johnson would be the odd guy out. I
- 11:56Speaker 2: think it's also important to note that Vic Vango likes
- 11:58Speaker 2: Patrick Johnson and Patrick Johnson is a very effective special
- 12:02Speaker 2: teamer to me, and this is a player who right
- 12:06Speaker 2: now last week.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Last week learned has a hamstring injury.
- 12:10Speaker 2: He did not play in the Giants game the second matchup,
- 12:12Speaker 2: and that's Azzo Jalari.
- 12:14Speaker 1: That's a player that I.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Don't know that you can just assume that he's safe
- 12:18Speaker 2: as the Eagles have to parse through the roster to
- 12:21Speaker 2: bring me in more talent. We also talked about the
- 12:24Speaker 2: players who are coming back and Jacoreyan Bennett who's not
- 12:27Speaker 2: yet on the fifty three, Brandon Graham who's not yet
- 12:29Speaker 2: on the fifty three, and Nolan Smith who's not yet
- 12:32Speaker 2: on the fifty three.
- 12:33Speaker 1: So it wouldn't surprise me.
- 12:35Speaker 2: That if one of those players on the outs or
- 12:37Speaker 2: that are on the fringes, like maybe an aj Diwen,
- 12:39Speaker 2: perhaps an Azzo Jelari or Patrick Johnson, who knows, maybe
- 12:44Speaker 2: an Adore Jackson or a Jacoryan Bennett, if they're players
- 12:48Speaker 2: that the Eagles, and I'm just throwing out names because
- 12:51Speaker 2: you have to start looking at the back end of
- 12:52Speaker 2: the roster and who would be the most more likely
- 12:56Speaker 2: casualties and you could probably see them get creative and
- 12:59Speaker 2: package them in in trades to offload them and create
- 13:03Speaker 2: roster space. Because the Eagles have a really difficult situation here,
- 13:06Speaker 2: and how they're gonna look through comb through the roster
- 13:11Speaker 2: and find players to move off of to create spots
- 13:14Speaker 2: for the three players that I mentioned, and even you know,
- 13:17Speaker 2: an incoming trade candidate, an incoming trade piece if they're
- 13:21Speaker 2: able to execute one. So that would make a lot
- 13:25Speaker 2: of sense. And you're kind of you you're kind of
- 13:27Speaker 2: finding ways to create space by maybe sending another player,
- 13:31Speaker 2: like I don't know, like an AJ Dillon.
- 13:33Speaker 1: You're including him in a trade.
- 13:34Speaker 2: That's one less player that you have to move off
- 13:37Speaker 2: of and create space for if you're Howie Roseman, So
- 13:39Speaker 2: that would that would obviously make a lot of sense.
- 13:41Speaker 2: But it also teams have to need or want that
- 13:45Speaker 2: player or be intrigued by that player. And I think
- 13:47Speaker 2: when you look at that of the players who are
- 13:50Speaker 2: kind of on the fringe that would have that kind
- 13:52Speaker 2: of appeal to the teams.
- 13:54Speaker 1: To me, at least would be an AJ.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Dillon for a running back needy team, or even a
- 13:59Speaker 2: ziz O Laurie. Who knows, we don't know the severity
- 14:02Speaker 2: of that hamstring injury.
- 14:03Speaker 3: Hey, I still like a good night out, but I'm
- 14:05Speaker 3: not always in the mood to drink and That's why
- 14:08Speaker 3: I looked for a great alternative, and I found one.

- 15:31Speaker 3: thirty percent off.
- 15:32Speaker 2: And that's something they also take into account that could
- 15:36Speaker 2: also lead to different roster machinations. If that hamstring injury lingers,
- 15:41Speaker 2: or if they have to make a move, like if
- 15:43Speaker 2: that's something that lasts for a longer period of time
- 15:45Speaker 2: or persists, the Eagles may have to put him on
- 15:49Speaker 2: the shelf.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Oh Jilari. So there's a lot of names that you're
- 15:53Speaker 1: hearing right now, and.
- 15:54Speaker 2: I of course the Eagles are going to be aggressive
- 15:57Speaker 2: and active and explore every option that's out there to
- 16:01Speaker 2: fortify the roster. Wouldn't surprise me if they were done,
- 16:04Speaker 2: and it wouldn't surprise me if they were able to
- 16:07Speaker 2: strike on an edge rusher. That would be the position
- 16:09Speaker 2: to keep an eye on. The Eagles prioritize the trenches
- 16:12Speaker 2: that prioritize pass rush, and I think adding another edge
- 16:16Speaker 2: rusher would take some of the pressure off of the
- 16:19Speaker 2: secondary and all of a sudden, you have a defense
- 16:23Speaker 2: that you're able to move forward with. But that's kind
- 16:25Speaker 2: of my thoughts here on this Saturday morning.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Again.
- 16:28Speaker 2: If you guys have any questions, feel free to email

- 16:36Speaker 1: Any questions that you have.
- 16:37Speaker 2: I would love to do a mail bag and be
- 16:39Speaker 2: able to delve into different topics this season that maybe
- 16:42Speaker 2: we haven't touched on as much because we have a
- 16:44Speaker 2: little bit more time built in here as we move
- 16:47Speaker 2: forward and the Eagles prepare to face the Green Bay
- 16:50Speaker 2: Packers on November tenth. But for now, that's going to
- 16:53Speaker 2: do it for me. This has been to check o daily.
- 16:55Speaker 2: I am Andrew de Checko and I will catch you
- 16:57Speaker 2: all on the next one. DA
