Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Tried to tradement news. Yes, today you'll know this with
- 0:02Speaker 1: the death of Depati Marti, MP Tacker Titajh Camp and
- 0:05Speaker 1: now there will be a by election in her seat
- 0:07Speaker 1: of Thommachimikodo, which she won by just forty two votes
- 0:10Speaker 1: against Labor incumbent Penny Henade at the last election. Jason
- 0:13Speaker 1: Wall's our political editor, Jason, good morning.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Good morning.
- 0:17Speaker 1: So when is the by election likely to be held?
- 0:19Speaker 2: Do we know all these details? We don't actually know. Yes,
- 0:23Speaker 2: there was a couple of points yesterday where we tried
- 0:26Speaker 2: to get some information, but it was really just not
- 0:28Speaker 2: the time to be asking those questions yesterday. Technically it's
- 0:31Speaker 2: got to be the Governor General that well basically gives
- 0:35Speaker 2: it though the green light. We know that this will
- 0:37Speaker 2: happen because the seat is, as we know now vacance.
- 0:41Speaker 2: That's the Tamaki Mikoto Auckland Marty seat up there. So
- 0:45Speaker 2: we're still waiting to get a few of those details
- 0:48Speaker 2: at this stage, but it won't be very long, I
- 0:50Speaker 2: would imagine.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Do you think Penny will run again? As he obviously
- 0:53Speaker 1: wouldn't have said anything, but do you think he will?
- 0:56Speaker 2: I think he probably will. I think he's definitely the
- 0:59Speaker 2: front runner in that seat to only lose by forty
- 1:01Speaker 2: two votes, and you know there was some controversy behind
- 1:06Speaker 2: those votes, with the Manu Mara as well being in
- 1:09Speaker 2: the headlines not so long ago. So I would say
- 1:12Speaker 2: say that it's pretty I would say it's pretty likely
- 1:16Speaker 2: to almost certain that Pini Hennade would run in that
- 1:18Speaker 2: seat and would be likely to win. TEA Party MARTI
- 1:22Speaker 2: would need to find a new candidate, but it would
- 1:24Speaker 2: be hard to find somebody that would have better that
- 1:26Speaker 2: name recognition than Pennie Hennoe.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Unless John Tommerhead he runs himself.
- 1:33Speaker 2: I was just about to say there is one caveat
- 1:36Speaker 2: to that that Tamahay does decide to run, but you know,
- 1:39Speaker 2: he had a you know, he's a he's a controversial figure.
- 1:43Speaker 2: He is these days is more in the background, pulling
- 1:46Speaker 2: the strings of the parties in being in in the limelight.
- 1:50Speaker 2: But even then, you know, I think that Pini Henaday,
- 1:53Speaker 2: you know, he's he's he's been in the he's been
- 1:56Speaker 2: in the headlines. He's been a part of the Auckland
- 1:59Speaker 2: March be seen for a long time. He's very well known.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I think that he'd probably still have a very good
- 2:05Speaker 2: good chance in that case.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Okay, interesting, Jason, appreciate your time this morning Jason Moore's
