- 0:10Life changing EuroMillions jackpot for UK winner.
- 0:14This is Mark and P2 blokes with half an opinion.
- 0:17Now here's our first thought. In it to win it or simply bin it
- 0:24with lucky, lucky numbers that help you win.
- 0:28Your chin will grin and head could spin.
- 0:31Unless you commit the mortal sin and forget to put your entry in.
- 0:36Yes. Did you actually win the
- 0:39EuroMillions? Oh Mr. Pete, did you even put in
- 0:43a ticket? Well, a ticket holder has won a
- 0:46staggering £180 million euro jackpot.
- 0:51It's one of the largest that has ever been seen in this country,
- 0:55in fact in throughout Europe. Now Mr. Pete, I would say that
- 0:58this is an astronomical amount of money for one individual or
- 1:02even consortium. This is life changing and would
- 1:05not normally be something that one individual would ever earn
- 1:09in a lifetime. I say to you, would you think
- 1:12that maybe it's time that the EuroMillions, as well as other
- 1:15jackpot winners should be capped, or really, do you think
- 1:19it should remain unlimited? Well, I have a slightly
- 1:24different view, a different take on the, on these particular
- 1:28types of competitions. I don't think they should have
- 1:31them at all because of the odds that we have that you have on
- 1:37winning and that the, the vast attraction of the, the large
- 1:41amounts like this, in this case 181,000,000 lbs.
- 1:46People will end up spending money that they don't have
- 1:50because of the lure of the big win, even though they're very,
- 1:53very unlikely to win it. They're more likely, you know,
- 1:57to get struck by lightning five times on the way to collect the
- 2:01ticket. Shocking.
- 2:03That's not an strict calculation, but it's very,
- 2:07very, very unlikely. I used to when they first
- 2:10introduced the this, this into the UK and what was it called to
- 2:16start with? It wasn't, it wasn't a Euro
- 2:19millions lottery was it was. Just well, they had a yes, the
- 2:23the UK lottery, which. Is the original UK lottery when
- 2:25I was introduced and I saw people buying it, I always
- 2:29thought, well, you should just have put above it, you know,
- 2:32taxation for being stupid or something like that.
- 2:35Because I, I just, I know there's some sort of
- 2:38entertainment element to it and if you can spare the money,
- 2:42fine. But I the, in all lotteries
- 2:46where they've been statistics, you know, I challenge people to
- 2:49find one when this is not the case.
- 2:51It's skews such that the people with who can least afford it are
- 2:55the ones who spend the most on it.
- 2:58Generally speaking. Of course, there are some
- 2:59syndicates which try and cleverly go for the win, but
- 3:02generally that's true. So I would say, yeah, one
- 3:05person, it's £181 million richer and lots and lots of people who
- 3:11took part are that little bit poorer.
- 3:15Well, indeed. And that's a good point because
- 3:17as we all know, it's not just in the United Kingdom, but
- 3:19throughout Europe and in fact, in fact the world.
- 3:21You know, many people are suffering.
- 3:23You know, costs are rising, people's, you know, dollar,
- 3:27pound, euro in their pocket is diminishing and and that is a
- 3:31concern. So for one individual to get
- 3:33such an astronomical amount of money, I mean, pretty much they
- 3:37could buy almost anything that they want from grand mansions,
- 3:40land, cars, many, many other different things.
- 3:43The riches are almost limitless. But here's the, here's the other
- 3:47thing that as you say, I think many people like that allure of
- 3:51the, the dream of winning it because let's be honest, even
- 3:55though that obviously the odds of you individually winning it
- 3:58are very limited, the fact is that somebody does win it and
- 4:02it's extraordinary. So one thing to note here,
- 4:05because I know that you'll be sort of delving into the back of
- 4:08the couch and anywhere else, the numbers are all really rather
- 4:13crucial, which is 12142744 and 50.
- 4:17Plus of course, the 2 lucky stars, 4:00 and 12:00 numbers
- 4:22mean a lot, don't they, Mr. Pete?
- 4:23And I guess that if you're, if you were to meet such a certain
- 4:30person who wins that kind of sort of money, what would your
- 4:33guidance be to them? Would you, would you sort of
- 4:37offer any advice on on what they should do with that money?
- 4:41Yeah, well the the first bit of advice if this hasn't been
- 4:44already handled for before you've done it.
- 4:47He's don't tell him what it may be publicly announced who you
- 4:51are, but if you get away with it, don't turn them on.
- 4:54Yes, because they have the right to anonymity, but it's not
- 4:56always easy. Yeah, yeah, until you've decided
- 4:59what to do with it and then you can have a proper plan.
- 5:02Obviously, you can have somebody, I'm just going to buy
- 5:04a few items that I've always needed or always wanted, but
- 5:08then have a proper plan for investment, including charitable
- 5:12causes as well and people you may want to give money to.
- 5:17But just keep, keep, keep, keep yourself back and then have a
- 5:24proper plan for spending. That's what I would say as far
- 5:27as possible. Don't tell anyone.
- 5:28If that's not possible, at least, you know, say, well, I'm
- 5:33going to have a proper plan, not spend any money.
- 5:34Maybe don't spend money other than a few essential items for a
- 5:38year. Well, I agree with the charity
- 5:41option and I'm almost certain that somebody would do that, but
- 5:44I'm going to sort of play a little bit of a devil's
- 5:47advocates here. If you were to have won such an
- 5:49amount of money, what kind of luxury, what single luxury item
- 5:54would you spend money on? It's whether you've got it now
- 5:57in your pocket, there it. Is yes, yes, I wanted.
- 6:01Oh no, no, it wasn't me. As I said, I'm not telling.
- 6:04Well, I'm not telling you. One wouldn't tell anyone even if
- 6:06it was me. Yeah, yeah.
- 6:08Not. Even our listeners.
- 6:10Not even our 33 listeners. I would obviously week it out to
- 6:13the Mark and Pete Studio, just just get some.
- 6:17There you go. Not that we need it with the
- 6:20state-of-the-art stuff we have it.
- 6:22But yeah, I the using the the can with a bit of string has
- 6:27always seemed a bit odd to me. Yeah, I, I think, I don't think
- 6:30there's anything particular. I might buy a new car.
- 6:33That's about it, I think. Oh, here we go.
- 6:36It's now ramping up. OK, a car that sounds expensive.
- 6:39Well, nothing depends. You've just, you know, maybe a
- 6:42Bugatti or. Why not each?
- 6:49So we'll look, what would you do, listeners with this size of
- 6:53money and basically to that UK ticket holder, why not come on
- 6:58the market, Peacho and show your generosity?
