- 0:00Happy Wednesday morning to everybody.
- 0:04Actually, it's Tuesday night and I'm with my brother Mike
- 0:08Wallace. It's your birthday.
- 0:10Today it is my birthday. Mike's 67 here.
- 0:15I got a reversal program on my birthday start 10 years ago.
- 0:18I'm not anywhere close to that. I'm 40 something.
- 0:21So Mike's 67 years young, but how old are you?
- 0:2567. 676. 7. So it's Tuesday night and I said
- 0:31brother, we did Big Brother Rusty last week down in Daytona
- 0:37and everybody says when are you going to do brother Mike?
- 0:40And I said, you know, I'm going to see Mike next week.
- 0:41So we are in the town square, Birkdale.
- 0:45What is Birkdale? Is that North Carolina?
- 0:47We're in Huntersville, NC in the shopping development of
- 0:50Birkdale, right? And we just left Red Rocks from
- 0:54eating dinner. Yeah, yeah.
- 0:56And we had a good time. Oh my gosh, the stories that
- 0:59were told. Happy birthday to you.
- 1:03I love my brother Mike. OK.
- 1:05Love you too, brother. Everybody, thank you.
- 1:09That means, you know, I'm lucky I got two brothers that love me.
- 1:13OK, so everybody says to me, what is your brother Mike up to?
- 1:18Well, we found out what Rusty was up to last week.
- 1:22What have you been up to? Well, I wish I had a whole lot
- 1:25of great, crazy exciting things like you always have to say that
- 1:28you've been up to, but just spend a lot of time with the
- 1:31grandkids and with my kids. They live 3 miles.
- 1:35If I pull out my driveway, go left to right, they live 3 miles
- 1:38each side of me basically. But along with that, I've done a
- 1:42lot of travelling, been a lot of different places.
- 1:44I went to Key West, FL a few weeks ago, hang out there.
- 1:49I'm going to the PGA event down in Florida this week at The
- 1:51Players Championship. Been invited to just crazy
- 1:55amount of fun stuff that you just go have a good time at.
- 1:59You know, it's totally different than what I'm used to doing and
- 2:01what I've done in years past. So people say to me all the
- 2:04time, what's Mike up to? And I'm like, brother Mike can
- 2:09survive on the land itself. I always tell people, I say Mike
- 2:13will go to the now, correct me if I'm wrong, but I will say
- 2:17this. I say Mike will go to the say
- 2:20the County Courthouse and there'll be a $2,000,000
- 2:25building for sale and you'll pay like 50 grand for it.
- 2:29You'll fix this up over two or three years and then sell it
- 2:32again. How far am I off?
- 2:37Probably would have sold it for a little more, more money, but
- 2:41we paid about the amount you said.
- 2:43So, you know, we worked really hard, smart, my family and I,
- 2:47you know, Matt, Chrissy, Carla, Lindsay, everybody for over a
- 2:51period of years and you know, Lindsay, Carla's not with us any
- 2:55longer. So that really sucks a lot.
- 2:57But the end result we we've done really well in real estate,
- 3:00cheap real estate. I want to say something.
- 3:03You know how much I love you. And I'm so sorry about you
- 3:06losing Carla. Mike lost his wife.
- 3:08How long has it been now? Two years.
- 3:10It was January 22nd of 2024. Yeah, I didn't want to gloss
- 3:14over that. We all miss Carla very much, as
- 3:18I know you. You know, there's so much to say
- 3:21there. OK, so you are very savvy
- 3:26businessman. A lot of people don't understand
- 3:29how NASCAR drivers can survive when racing is over.
- 3:33But you. Well, I don't have NASCAR money.
- 3:36There's only one. Person only me.
- 3:39Only one person in our family that's really got NASCAR money,
- 3:42older brother got absorbing stupid money so it's.
- 3:45Rusty doesn't have NASCAR money. He's got car dealership money.
- 3:49How do? You only end up with NASCAR.
- 3:52In mind, the fans told me. But anyway, you know, I just
- 3:57like poking because people want to know and I'd like bragging on
- 4:02you. And I remember when you
- 4:05graduated high school early and you went to Hillsborough and you
- 4:09graduated way before all of us dumbasses.
- 4:13You were always smarter and always more.
- 4:17I don't. I don't believe that.
- 4:20I don't believe that at all. You're we're we're all very
- 4:22fortunate. We had a great mom and dad
- 4:25taught us a lot of work ethics that a lot of people aren't
- 4:28taught today. How did they teach us?
- 4:30I don't know. We as hell we we used to deliver
- 4:32newspapers. Can you believe us?
- 4:34Delivered newspapers out of a truck to everybody's house, you
- 4:38know, so we, we worked our butt off along the years.
- 4:42It hasn't all been just that easy.
- 4:44NASCAR money that you made. The community press, we
- 4:47delivered that up there of Creve Coeur, MO.
- 4:50The papers would come, me and my buddies, we would insert them
- 4:53with like true value hardware store inserts, like
- 4:57advertisements. Give them to Rusty and Mike.
- 5:00Now, did you roll them or did both of you Rusty?
- 5:03Both. Rolled both.
- 5:03Rolled them. It was it was never, nobody ever
- 5:05wanted to roll them. It was easy to throw them out
- 5:07the window. That was fun.
- 5:09Did you always like aim them in houses?
- 5:10Yeah, yeah, after a while. But you know the biggest thing?
- 5:13None. You want to get done and get
- 5:14home. And so we actually used to cheat
- 5:16now and then on the on the papers.
- 5:17You, you got paid by how many you threw.
- 5:19So we threw like 2500 papers a night, but we'd only throw like
- 5:242000 because we'd throw the other 500 in a dumpster.
- 5:26And got caught, yeah. Some things we got got away
- 5:31with, some things we didn't. But you know, I say that you
- 5:35learn in life. Just don't get caught, yeah?
- 5:37So you're doing a lot of travelling, you've got friends
- 5:41that got airplanes. I like your relationship.
- 5:44Is that Doug Herbert? Doug Herbert.
- 5:46And I yeah. Doug got some airplanes, got
- 5:48some really nice jets. We we go do some fun stuff.
- 5:51Nobody ever hears about it. We'll make a little video or
- 5:54something if we're taxing down the runway or we're landing or
- 5:57whatever, just to say we're somewhere.
- 6:00But we've had a great time. But you and Doug, Doug started
- 6:03breaks after he lost his children.
- 6:05And I think that's a really worthy cause.
- 6:08I I saw Dale Junior maybe got involved here lately.
- 6:12Dale Junior did get involved with breaks through the
- 6:15Nationwide people Nationwide backed the deal and for what?
- 6:17Everybody what Kenny's talking about?
- 6:21Good. Friend of yours.
- 6:22Yeah, very good friend NHRA. Dr. Racer had Herbert
- 6:25performance for many years. Doug lost two children in in a
- 6:30car crash right down the street from where we're at right now,
- 6:32actually. And he wouldn't take that as
- 6:35the, you know, the what could be the life sentence to your own
- 6:39life and soul. And he took and created breaks
- 6:41and that's an acronym for be Everyone, Be careful and all
- 6:44that. And it's a driving school for
- 6:47teenage kids. It's highly donated to it has to
- 6:49be because they don't charge anybody anything.
- 6:52If you have a child that's 1516 years old, you need to send them
- 6:55to brakes. They do them all around the
- 6:57country. Look up the acronym, acronym you
- 7:00know, on on your social media pages and it's everything's got
- 7:04a period B, period R, period A period KE.
- 7:08And it teaches kids how to learn how to drive and be responsible.
- 7:11Responsible. It's kind of like you've seen
- 7:13the Dale Junior commercials that he did with the nationwide
- 7:15people. I heard about that seen it it's
- 7:18just getting the word out there everybody needs it.
- 7:21Doug and I have become very good friends because I guess that
- 7:24would be what I call, we call our mutual bond between each
- 7:27other. If you ever lose a child, it's.
- 7:32Yep. Strategy, you know, so I lost a
- 7:35son when he was two years old, Mikey and I've lost a wife so
- 7:39I've I've been beat up on all size angle and so Doug and I
- 7:44have that common thing and Doug's got a beautiful wife Mimi
- 7:48Mimi Sabatis. I love her.
- 7:49Her father used to be. Felix Sabatis's daughter.
- 7:53Yeah, so we we all get along well.
- 7:54It's not like we hang out all the time, but we always got
- 7:56something to do and they're always a blast to do it.
- 7:58Yeah. So you've made all your money,
- 8:01you're doing good and and I save.
- 8:03A. Lot of money, got a lot of
- 8:05money. We do that just to have fun
- 8:08with, you know, a lot of people that think they know what's up,
- 8:12but you're, you're, you're doing great, you're traveling and.
- 8:16Going to a big golf tournament this week, that's going to be
- 8:19fun and I'm going to go to Buffalo Trace over in a couple.
- 8:23Weeks. Oh, you get bourbon and.
- 8:24Bourbon going to go pick out a a barrel of Blanton so we we have
- 8:29a relationship there with the folks of sacres and what's.
- 8:32The deal with bourbon, everybody collects it.
- 8:34Hey. Respond right here.
- 8:36What's the deal with bourbon? You you tell your version.
- 8:39Yeah, well, bourbon is. It actually started with my
- 8:41son-in-law, Thomas Van Wingerton, who just loved
- 8:44bourbon. I I didn't know much about it.
- 8:46I thought it was an old man's drink and I didn't want to get
- 8:48old only to find me. Another drink, Bobby.
- 8:52Pull her up to the bar. As I say, yeah, I I just didn't
- 8:56know much about it. Except we couldn't get it for
- 8:58Thomas. We wanted Blanton's and it
- 9:01become a yuppie drink is what it has.
- 9:03But as you know, millennial drink and we were fortunate
- 9:07enough to meet some very nice people over at Buffalo Trace and
- 9:11we are going over for our second barrel tasting.
- 9:14So not many people get a barrel, but we got 2 coming so don't
- 9:20tell anybody. You know when you're having fun
- 9:23and you ask people what you're up to and you're you're going to
- 9:25a golf tournaments, what's going to happen in Nashville you.
- 9:29Go to Nashville, then I go to Nashville just a few days later.
- 9:32Right when I was out in Houston, TX back in October, I met
- 9:37Mattress Mack. A big game.
- 9:39Legend. Owns Gallery Furniture Mart,
- 9:42Yeah. I mattress Mack.
- 9:45I also met Joel Osteen when I was out there.
- 9:48The preacher. And went to went to the church
- 9:51and hung out with him for. For a while I got to interrupt
- 9:53you right there. You have done some of the most
- 9:56unbelievable stuff. I think during the Kuwait war
- 10:01you were on a a big plane. You were with Robin Williams, a
- 10:06famous comedian. The general fill that story in
- 10:10for me. Quick story is Vern Clark, who's
- 10:13the CNO of the Navy, introduced me to Admiral General Myers.
- 10:18The Admiral General Myers, he was chairman of the Joint Chief
- 10:20of Staff, invited me to go with him as the general 4 star
- 10:26general. What chairman of Joint Chief of
- 10:28Staff means? He runs the whole U.S. military.
- 10:30He's in charge of all. And you got I saw.
- 10:32It all. So we flew over there on Air
- 10:34Force 2, super badass blue, Chrome white United States of
- 10:40America down to side and you walk inside and who's sitting in
- 10:43there up front with you? The late, great Robin Williams.
- 10:46Yeah, the great, great comedian. Yeah, so that was many years
- 10:49ago, but that that impact from that trip has never left my
- 10:53life. What I mean is, and we certainly
- 10:56not on our political side here, but the soldiers in our country
- 10:59give us the freedoms to sit around at Birkdale, talk about
- 11:02NASCAR money and going going over to get some bourbon, things
- 11:06like that that we we take for granted.
- 11:09Don't ever take it for granted because all those troops are are
- 11:13some of them are given their life for us to have those
- 11:15freedoms. But.
- 11:17Yeah. So the end result I I'm over and
- 11:20I'm over in Houston, TX, I meet Mattress Mack, I meet Joel
- 11:24Osteen. I meet Aaron Barker, who is a
- 11:28famous songwriter for George Strait, right?
- 11:32Wrote some of the greatest song he's ever had.
- 11:34And he goes, hey, I live in Nashville.
- 11:36I said, well, I'm coming to Nashville in March.
- 11:38He goes, we're going out. Then we might just end up with a
- 11:41Bluebird Saloon. So the Bluebird is a famous
- 11:45everybody uses. That's where Taylor Swift was
- 11:47found, you know, But places like that, we're going to spend 3 or
- 11:494 days over there. Just hang out, Nashville style.
- 11:53So there you go, everybody. I'm taking Doug's jet or Doug's
- 11:56taking me and dropping me off. Come back.
- 11:58Hey, hey, I'm going to leave you with this.
- 12:00I always say this, If you've made it this far, don't worry
- 12:03about Mike. He's doing great.
- 12:05Yeah, fake it with first class or private jets it's.
- 12:07OK fake it with first class or private jets.
- 12:13I love you. Love you too, brother.
- 12:14Say goodbye everybody. Hey, goodbye everybody, it's a
- 12:16pleasure seeing y'all and I have a blast watching your show all
- 12:19the time.
